motorcyclist injured on Brisbane's North side.

There are about ten people who came together to help
this motorcyclist in Kedron after a bad crash on Gimpi
Rode around eight point thirty this morning. Witnesses rushed over
to help manually lift a car off of the forty
six year old who was trapped underneath it.

make sure it was all right.

old station wagon and he managed to jump out of

there were just people jumping at the car trying to
get it it with hoses and you know, they were
they were just like people concerned. They might have been
kids in the car, and yeah, you know, and everything afterwards,
people just rallied around us. The whole city was just
you know, people were fundraising for us, and you know,

so many people know our name now because they just
all gathered for these strangers. And it was the most
beautiful thing. It really, It really just shows how beautiful
communities can be.

three fingernails, because everything peeled. So once the blister's healed up,

be fair, the boys brought it home from daycare, so
we all caught chicken pox despite being vaccinated. The issue

if the baby catches it and is.

passed away in the car, but she was saved and

six year old who was trapped underneath it.

and make sure it was all right.

Yeah, once you get to inby road, like it's obviously
a busy road if you're from this side of town,
and you can just see like obviously why it was

could have been.

I come down and spoke to a few of your
colleagues and everyone just pointed to you, and so he's

Started running over and didn't really know what to expect
or you know, and yeah, halfway there, I realized there
was over a body laying under the car. So it's yeah,
we all just gathered around the car and lifted him
off or lifted the car off the feller and and yeah,

I wait for the police and ambulance and fieries to come.

So the car was a hatchback was a little yeah.

We just knew we had to get the car off him,

but it was there wasn't time to think. All we
wanted to do was get get the car car off him.

Now yeah, and now, Rob, did you realize he was
obviously you know that the car was right on his chest,

was losing breath like he was, you know, like they
probably wasn't going to be much left in him?

car on top of him.

So just used your car as like an artificial traffic shield.

And what made you do it, David, Because you're a
complete stranger.

I've been in thurf life fame on an office the
twenty years. So it was just part of my nature.

two days before Christmas and he one of them leaped

so the whole car was in flames. It was an
old station wagon and he managed to jump out of
the car and he was running down the road sort
of yelling at people to to get away from him
because all his clothes were on fire. And even in
that moment, he was trying to keep people away, but

there were just people jumping at the car trying to
get it it with hoses and you know, they were
they were just like people concerned. They might have been
kids in the car, and yeah, you know, and everything afterwards,
people just rallied around us. The whole city was just
you know, people were fundraising for us, and you know,

so many people know our name now because they just
all gathered for these strangers. And it was the most
beautiful thing. It really, It really just shows how beautiful
communities can be.

He's he's turning sixty fire, Yeah, sixty sixty three this
year and he's yeah, it's it's we have a celebration

everyone was just so incredible.

three fingernails, because everything peeled. So once the blister's healed up,

everything peeled. I'm tearing off massive pieces of this week
for months.

youngest son. The last month before Piper's birth turned out
to be unexpectedly eventful. I caught chicken pox. Well, to
be fair, the boys brought it home from daycare, so
we all caught chicken pox despite being vaccinated. The issue

was that chicken pox in utro can be dangerous, particularly
if the baby catches it and is.

had to go in for an emergency meeting all of
the doctors to see if they would actually allowed me
into the already theater to have metesarians. Yeah, but I
also spent a lot of like the first few days
I wasn't allowed to kiss him. I think I had
to have the masks.

three months. We had to medicated on all types of
medication just to get rid of this ring worm. My

and make sure it's.

cousin's rebirth. Was traveling from New South Wales to Queensland
with her parents, my auntie and uncle and her grandparent
on her father's side, and her grandfather accidentally fell asleep
behind the wheel and there was a great big truck

coming the opposite way, and when he woke up at
the last second he swerved, but he swerved into the
on corefit oncoming traffic. Oh, and there was a car
following the truck about a k distance behind. And they

are the most loveliest people in the whole entire world.

They stopped.
Speaker 29 (45:58):
Ian is his name. He ran to the car, unbuckled
my cousin, got her out of her car seat, ran
back to his car and sat My cousin with his wife, Belinda,
and completely saved her life. And when he was running back,
their car went up in smoke and just stepped fire,

and unfortunately my auntie and my uncle and her grandparents
passed away in the car, but she was saved and
we grew up together. So she ended up living with us.
So I have another sister and now she's my best friend.
She's my rock where she's everything.

Do you know who that was? Do you have any idea?
Speaker 29 (46:45):
Yeah, we're still friends with them to this day. I
gather they have five children and their three girls were
my bridesmaids when I got married.

Yeah, I thought it was incredible that you knew their names,
but that you're actually friends.

Friends black my family. I have four children and my husband.
We travel, We go and stay with them in New
South Wales. They come to Queensland and stay with us.
They are my son, my thirteen year old son's godparent.

That is just extraordinary, And the kindness of strangers have
completely changed a whole lot of people's lives.

It doesn't it It's just you can't like the kindness
that people have in them when things like that happen,
like you just it can't be taught, You're born with it.
I owe everythink to Ian and Belinda, like we have
a part of it, of our family that we should
have lost on that day. And she is the most

Yeah, once you get to inby road, like it's obviously
a busy road if you're from this side of town,
and you can just see like obviously why it was
such a bad accent, but also how much worse it
could have been.

And Rob, you're sort of the unofficial spokesperson.

I come down and spoke to a few of your
colleagues and everyone just pointed to you, and so he's
the guy you want to you and throw on air.
And they've been scribing. If you can hear in the background,
it's the classic you've got a face radio.

So that's why they've thrown him, thrown him on air here.

But you were saying Wednesdays in particular, you have a
few more hands on deck sort of out in the
yard so it just sort of it worked out pretty
perfectly for something like this to happen and for you
guys to help him out here.

Yeah, so well, luckily we do Wednesday's our startup day.
So instead of a couple of people been out in
the in the car yard, there was probably about half
a dozen of us all starting the cars up and

on the scene too, or.
Speaker 31 (50:20):
Started running over and didn't really know what to expect
or you know, and yeah, halfway there, I realized there
was over a body laying under the car. So it's yeah,
we all just gathered around the car and lifted him
off or lifted the car off the feller and and yeah,

I wait for the police and ambulance and fieries to come.
Speaker 2 (50:47):
So the car was a hatchback was a little yeah.
Speaker 10 (50:50):
Yeah, little little Master too, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (50:52):
Little Master too, which obviously helps there sort of only
one but still but still was it a matter of
like did you need to communicate or everyone knows what
did you count countdown three two?
Speaker 8 (51:02):
Lift all that?
Speaker 10 (51:03):
No, it wasn't like that at all.
Speaker 31 (51:07):
We just knew we had to get the car off him,
you know, yeah, so yeah, we just everyone was you know,
I guess adrenaline going and everything like that. You look
back on things and go, yeah, we should have done
it this way, he should have done it that way,
but it was there wasn't time to think. All we
wanted to do was get get the car car off him.
Speaker 7 (51:27):
Now yeah, and now, Rob, did you realize he was
obviously you know that the car was right on his chest,
is what we're saying. And could you tell that he
was losing breath like he was, you know, like they
probably wasn't going to be much left in him?
Speaker 8 (51:40):

Wow, we just yeah, we just needed to get the
car off him. I guess yeah.

The injuries that he's now we've been told was a collapse, lung,
broken ReBs, broken collar bone, fractured spine. Yeah, if he'd
stayed under there, I mean, what was going through your mind?

Yeah, well you don't sort of yeah, you don't really think.
Speaker 4 (52:12):
Dude, help, that's an Australian thing to do. Did you
did you realize he was Canadian.

Well they say it's the Australian way, but no matter
where you are, you know you'd help out a fellow human.

When they had a drink, Yeah, that'll be a long

like it would have been a hard day to get
back to focusing.

So yeah, your legend, Rob, do you reckon if you've
got the same same people there right now without all
the adrenaline that you could lift a car like that, not.

By myself, but yeah, maybe we could try again, give
it another goal and see how many other people.

That would have actually taken to lift the car. But no,
you do some amazing things when when your adrenaline's going.

I know this is not why you did it, and
you probably haven't even thought about it, but that is
