Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's Rob and Kip and Choreo. It's On Demand, the podcast.
I've got some audio for you at halftime, and I
think you're both going to appreciate the audio and know
who it is, but I'll have a little guessing game
with you.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
All right, at halftime.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
Rob and Kip and Choreo. In the morning.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
We've got a question for you, and you need to
tell us yay or nay. 131065 is our number. We're
talking about driving and when you're in the car, who
has control of the music? Who's got the buttons? The
driver would be the obvious option.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
Yes.

Speaker 4 (00:36):
Yeah, but hang on. Who are you driving with?

Speaker 2 (00:38):
I don't care.

Speaker 5 (00:39):
Well, if you've got a young person, like a child,
it is not worth your while to play your favourite.

Speaker 4 (00:46):
Country hits when they're screaming. Because you play John Fung.

Speaker 6 (00:50):
There you go.

Speaker 5 (00:51):
I know that, but, like, you know, you've got a
fractious kid.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
If you persevere, you can get them to listen to
your thing.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Can you?

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Yeah, and then it's almost like teaching them something. It's like, sure,
you don't want to learn, but you will find out
that Rage Against the Machine is good for you.

Speaker 5 (01:08):
So when you pace your will against a two-year-old, there
is some glory that you've won.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
Yeah, that's right. Like Cardi B. You're not enjoying it
right now, but one day you'll know that Drake is
good for your soul.

Speaker 5 (01:22):
You will endure like a whole car ride of screaming
for the Wiggles.

Speaker 7 (01:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:28):
Just to play Cardi B.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
Yeah, because otherwise, honestly, because Sienna's at that age now
where she does not tire of a song. So you
can play it ten times straight.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
Yeah, do you know all the words to Mbop yet?

Speaker 1 (01:38):
A hundred percent.

Speaker 4 (01:39):
That's her favourite.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Yeah, yeah. So you've got to do it. So as
a driver, you've got to be strong.

Speaker 7 (01:44):
Yes, I agree.

Speaker 4 (01:45):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
You know, because everything's, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Like touch and you can request songs. So I say
to the kids, I'm driving, I pick my songs. And
then they go, oh, but just can you play– You know,
this song, I will when I feel like it. And
then when they start whinging.

Speaker 4 (02:01):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
When they start whinging and thinking about it, I play it.

Speaker 7 (02:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
And the next thing you know, they're back there singing,
singing Texas, I can tell.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
So kids, you have some control over. What about Naomi?
Naomi's saying, I really want to listen to this. And
you're going to go, no.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
Okay, well, that's cool. You can drive.

Speaker 8 (02:20):
There.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
Oh, okay. Are you okay then to hand.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
Over the wheel?

Speaker 7 (02:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
She doesn't want it. She's not prepared to drive in
exchange for the stereo, right? She'd rather sit there and
kick back, scroll away.

Speaker 7 (02:31):
Oh, bingo.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Thank you very much.

Speaker 5 (02:32):
Yeah, because for me, sometimes when I listen to Olivier's
choice of music, I learn something.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Yeah, you learn.

Speaker 4 (02:38):
And I get exposed to different kinds of music.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
What is he like?

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Actually, what is he listening to, like heavy metal?

Speaker 6 (02:44):
No.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
No, he's a child.

Speaker 5 (02:47):
And there's a six-year age difference with us, and there
is some music I just go.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
What is this?

Speaker 1 (02:52):
And European, too. Yeah, to pull out a Belgian hit.

Speaker 5 (02:57):
Some crazy Germans who did some techno stuff.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
I'm going to show you David Hasselhoff.

Speaker 4 (03:04):
Why did the Germans love him so much?

Speaker 6 (03:06):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
I guess it's the name. It's just the Hasselhoff. But
yay or nay, the driver picks the music. What do
you think? 131065.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
Robin, Kip and Corey Oates in the morning.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
When you're the driver, you pick the music.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Yep, and if I want disco, I'm having disco. If
I want country, I'm having country.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
Catherine of Nunday, yay or nay? Nay.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
No.

Speaker 7 (03:28):
Why?

Speaker 1 (03:28):
So who picks the music in your world?

Speaker 9 (03:30):
Um.

Speaker 10 (03:31):
The teenagers did, but now the grandkids do.

Speaker 4 (03:34):
See, I'm telling you.

Speaker 5 (03:36):
These guys are so tough when they're not actually in
the situation.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
No, I mean, seriously, I get cranky if they try and–
I get the shit.

Speaker 7 (03:43):
It's proper.

Speaker 4 (03:44):
I'm driving. You haven't mentioned Tegan at all in that.

Speaker 7 (03:49):
What do you mean?

Speaker 4 (03:49):
Well, if she wants a particular... I've said it to her.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
I'm driving, mate.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
Don't touch me music.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
What about... I mean, do we even take it beyond music?
Because on the way back from the Sunshine Coast on
the weekend, I was driving, obviously, so I listened to
the football. And everyone else just had to sit through football. Oh,
my gosh. I'm driving.

Speaker 4 (04:08):
That's how it goes.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
See, my saving grace there is Hux and Monty.

Speaker 7 (04:10):
Love the footy.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
There you go.

Speaker 7 (04:12):
See?

Speaker 5 (04:12):
And your secret weapon in that is Naomi won't ride
on a freeway.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
She doesn't like driving on the freeway. So you have
to do it anyway.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
You have a little snooze.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
I'm listening.

Speaker 7 (04:20):
Christine.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Your life is in my hands, so give me my music.

Speaker 4 (04:23):
Deception Bay, yay or nay for Driver Picks the Music.

Speaker 11 (04:27):
Absolutely, yay.

Speaker 7 (04:28):
Yes.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
Absolutely.

Speaker 10 (04:30):
I'm with you guys.

Speaker 12 (04:31):
If my husband's driving, please move aside.

Speaker 10 (04:34):
I'll drive so I can listen.

Speaker 13 (04:36):
To what I want.

Speaker 8 (04:38):
And it can get pretty crazy.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
I like it.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
John out of North Lakes, yay or nay?

Speaker 8 (04:46):
Nay, especially if my wife or child are in the car,
I'm putting them first.

Speaker 7 (04:51):
Oh, you poor man.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
Oh, shut up, John.

Speaker 4 (04:54):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Tough life you're going to have, John.

Speaker 4 (04:57):
There's nothing like being taken down by a pier.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
I'm putting them first.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Oh, you poor fellow.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
Lay out of Waterford West, yay or nay?

Speaker 12 (05:06):
It's a yay.

Speaker 10 (05:07):
I mean, I've got a great taste in music. So
my kids, I have a 23-year-old, a 19-year-old, and a 2-year-old.

Speaker 12 (05:15):
The 2-year-old's going to go to sleep. The other two
have got AirPods.

Speaker 11 (05:18):
I'm listening to my music.

Speaker 7 (05:20):
Good.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
You've got to take a try. I bet you've taught
those kids well.

Speaker 8 (05:25):
I'm a driver.

Speaker 12 (05:26):
I'm a driver, so I'm going to get you where
you need to, so let's listen to what I'm listening to, right?

Speaker 7 (05:31):
Yes.

Speaker 14 (05:31):
And that's it.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
I think I've got the best taste in music in
my family too, so that's why my music's the best.

Speaker 4 (05:38):
Okay, we are sitting at two all.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (05:40):
So, Sharon Adabean-Lee, you are the deciding vote, yay or nay?

Speaker 9 (05:45):
Yay.

Speaker 8 (05:46):
Well, I actually say both.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
Oh, come on, Sharon.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
Sharon, you've got to pick one.

Speaker 7 (05:51):
Sharon, you've got to pick one.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
Get those splinters out of your bum, Sharon.

Speaker 6 (05:54):
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
What have you got?

Speaker 8 (05:56):
I say both because it depends on the length of
the car ride.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
No, if it's longer, I'm definitely having more music.

Speaker 8 (06:04):
No, because now I basically, it's my music all the way.
Get out of the car, that. But previously, I was
with you, Robert, at the Younger Children's. Man, I did
an eight-hour car ride listening to Wiggles.

Speaker 12 (06:18):
Hot potato.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
Oh, no.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
I couldn't do that for eight hours.

Speaker 7 (06:21):
No, Sharon, they can get out and walk.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
And so now we're coming to Nellie out of Dinmore.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
Oh, mate, it's a yay.

Speaker 7 (06:29):
Thanks.

Speaker 9 (06:30):
And it's Nanny Nell here and my grandies and my
kids will tell you.

Speaker 12 (06:34):
I just come back from a long drive from Minesville
on my own, mind you, and it was just awesome.

Speaker 9 (06:40):
Having my playlist playing for myself.

Speaker 6 (06:43):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
Well, I listened and I heard the talk of grandkids,
which is why this will be a perfect prize for you.
Dinosaur World Live, a rawsome family adventure.

Speaker 10 (06:51):
Oh, you're joking. My youngest grandson, he's only just turning two,
and he goes.

Speaker 12 (06:58):
Dinosaur.

Speaker 7 (06:59):
Dinosaur.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
It's been one of his first words.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
You made my day, you guys. Good on you, Nellie.
And good on you for sticking strong on the radio.

Speaker 11 (07:10):
And if anyone changes it off 97.3 in the house,
in the car, they know.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
They get the look, they get the finger, and it's
not on.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
It's Nanny T-Rex all of a sudden.

Speaker 14 (07:21):
She's ready to go.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
Dinosaur World Live, a Rawson Family Adventure book now. DinosaurWorldLive.com.au.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
Robin, Kip and Corey Oates in the morning.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
I came across this stat yesterday, actually, and it's very interesting.
It really, really, you know, came to my attention that
I think they've nailed it. The average duration of a
phone call.

Speaker 4 (07:43):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
So it'll go down in the list of, you know,
boy to mum.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Who's calling who? Oh, okay. So boy to boy.

Speaker 15 (07:51):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
59 seconds.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
Under a minute.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
Under a minute.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
Boy to mum, 50 seconds.

Speaker 4 (07:58):
I was going to say, it's less.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Boy to dad, 30 seconds.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
You're doing this?

Speaker 8 (08:05):
Yes, you are.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
Okay, I'll see you then. You know what, my dad,
I remember my dad getting to a point in life
where he stopped saying hellos and goodbyes to me.

Speaker 7 (08:12):
Sorry.

Speaker 4 (08:13):
No, no. He just starts the conversation.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
He'd just start. And then he'd go, and so you're
going to be there Saturday? I'd go, yep. Just hang up.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
Just done.

Speaker 7 (08:21):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
He's got all the information he needed.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
That's all you need.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
That's efficient. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
And then I guess this one was boyfriend to girlfriend,
I guess. An hour 23. Wow.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
Boyfriend to girlfriend.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
Yeah, boyfriend to girlfriend. And that usually means the girl
doesn't want to get off the phone.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
Well, that must be the early stages in the relationship.
That's when they're trying to impress each other.

Speaker 7 (08:44):
Exactly.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
And now this is when I think it really starts
to really– They nailed it. They nailed these next ones.
Girl to girl.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
Is it more than boyfriend and girlfriend?

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Five and a half hours.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
This must be like.

Speaker 7 (08:59):
I couldn't agree more.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
I can sit there and listen. Not listen, but I
watched Tegan. I would have mowed the lawn, which takes
me two hours, two, three hours. And I'm like, are
you still talking to Kayla? She goes, oh, yeah. I'm like,
what about.

Speaker 4 (09:17):
I've never done five hours.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
That's insane.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
Have you done two?

Speaker 4 (09:21):
I've done an hour. You've done two.

Speaker 6 (09:24):
Come on.

Speaker 5 (09:24):
If I've been driving up to the sunny coast to
see Olivia, my boyfriend, I'll call my friend Linda in
Adelaide and she'll take me through the whole trip.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
Have a download.

Speaker 4 (09:33):
It's an hour 23.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
Yeah, okay.

Speaker 1 (09:35):
What else?

Speaker 2 (09:36):
Husband to wife.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
Now, what was boyfriend to girlfriend?

Speaker 8 (09:42):
An hour 23.

Speaker 14 (09:42):
Husband to wife.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
This is additional.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
It's a substantial reduction.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
Three seconds.

Speaker 4 (09:50):
What can you possibly say in three seconds? I'm coming.
What does that even count as? What is three seconds?

Speaker 1 (09:59):
That's bizarre.

Speaker 4 (10:00):
What would you say?

Speaker 2 (10:01):
You can't. Could you ring him? Because you just want
an answer to something real quick.

Speaker 7 (10:04):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (10:05):
So, yeah. How would a three-second call to Tegan go?

Speaker 2 (10:08):
I don't even know. It would be more like she'd go, hello.
I'm like, do I need to get the groceries?

Speaker 8 (10:15):
Yep.

Speaker 7 (10:15):
Sweet.

Speaker 8 (10:15):
Bye.

Speaker 7 (10:15):
Bye.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
Okay, that was enough.

Speaker 14 (10:18):
Yeah, you did it.

Speaker 8 (10:21):
Okay.

Speaker 6 (10:22):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (10:22):
I didn't think that was possible.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
Next one. Mum to married daughter. So your daughter's married.

Speaker 4 (10:28):
Well, I'll never know.

Speaker 7 (10:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
What's that?

Speaker 3 (10:30):
Double it.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
It's about 10 hours. Mum to married daughter, yeah.

Speaker 7 (10:36):
Oh, yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
I don't know how.

Speaker 9 (10:38):
Like.

Speaker 1 (10:38):
Well, I've got a lot of complaining to do. I know.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
I guess, you know, it's complaining about your father.

Speaker 7 (10:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
And then it's complaining about your husband.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
And your son-in-law.

Speaker 7 (10:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
And your son-in-law.

Speaker 5 (10:49):
And both of them have a vested interest in agreeing
with each other.

Speaker 9 (10:52):
Yeah, see?

Speaker 1 (10:53):
It's true.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Now, hey.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
Oh, you got more?

Speaker 9 (10:56):
Wait.

Speaker 1 (10:56):
Hang on. Sorry, you got more?

Speaker 2 (10:57):
You've cut me off.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:59):
What else you got?

Speaker 2 (10:59):
Wife to husband.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
Wife to husband. Oh, okay. So three seconds it was
the other way around.

Speaker 14 (11:04):
What's this one?

Speaker 7 (11:04):
Wife to husband.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
Wife to husband. What, 14 missed calls?

Speaker 4 (11:10):
It was worth the wait.

Speaker 15 (11:11):
Okay, that's good.

Speaker 5 (11:15):
The world spends their life going, oh, yeah, I'm not woo-woo, but, like,
for example, I reckon every single footballer, like, I have
to wear these lucky socks, but I don't believe in
anything bigger than myself.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
No, I said I used to wear the same jocks,
and then I realised I didn't need to.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
But you did have a bit of a time where
you were superstitious?

Speaker 2 (11:37):
It was just more the routine for me. I still
believe that there are some things that you can never
explain that happen. And not to say that I believe
in it all the time and we've spoken about this,
but there are things that have happened where I go, well,
there's no answer for it.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
I have complete faith. All of the time.

Speaker 5 (11:56):
The things that don't make sense to me is fine.
They don't need to make sense. I believe there is
something greater than ourselves and that thing is a part.

Speaker 4 (12:04):
You know, it's like a kookaburra.

Speaker 5 (12:05):
Whenever I need to get an affirmation for something, I
will hear or see a kookaburra.

Speaker 7 (12:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (12:10):
I don't question that.

Speaker 7 (12:11):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (12:12):
Whereas my mum's just like, that's just coincidence, darling.

Speaker 14 (12:14):
I'm like, it's not.

Speaker 4 (12:16):
But I don't need to go, you know, I'm not woo-woo, but.

Speaker 14 (12:19):
I'm like, I'm woo-woo.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
But the rest of you. I believe in miracles. I
think miracles happen.

Speaker 8 (12:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
I think there are things that you just go, I
can't explain that. That's too incredible to have been chance.
It just happened. And I don't understand it, but yes. No,
I think they can happen. Actually, we've got a call
coming up after 8 o'clock this morning, our amazing stories.
And this one is unbelievable.

Speaker 4 (12:41):
It really is crazy.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
Yeah. Rob out of Ipswich, who got the help of
his daughter Molly in telling the story. She remembers it
really well.

Speaker 7 (12:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
And he has one of those moments where you can
tell he's not comfortable with the moment.

Speaker 4 (12:54):
We should say he was in a massive car explosion.

Speaker 7 (12:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (12:58):
And a gas bottle exploded. And you'll hear more what
happened in the actual story. But that's important when you
hear this little bit.

Speaker 11 (13:05):
Usually when you think of someone trying to get out
a window, you see them sort of shoulder first or
sort of climbing their way.

Speaker 6 (13:12):
Out, but it was almost like he was being pulled.

Speaker 11 (13:16):
He was being pulled out of the car, even though
there wasn't anyone there. He remembers being pulled out of
the car. Like, you don't get out of a car
that way.

Speaker 6 (13:25):
I hadn't undone the seatbelt, hadn't put the car in park,
hadn't done anything. I put my arms out the window.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
And out he went.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
See how uncomfortable he is?

Speaker 2 (13:38):
Every time he said it, he just got emotional because
it's like, and he said he's got no idea.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
I don't know how. Something pulled me out of the car.

Speaker 5 (13:46):
Okay, if you have had one of those moments, tell us.
You know, I'm not woo-woo, but this happened.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
But this happened, yes.

Speaker 7 (13:55):
131065.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
Robin, Kip and Corey Oates in the morning.

Speaker 1 (13:59):
Alex Warren, Fever Dream. It's Robin Kip and Corey Oates
on KISS 97.3, 7.20. We've got tickets to Practical Magic
2 in cinemas now.

Speaker 4 (14:07):
Yes, it opens today. I absolutely loved it.

Speaker 5 (14:09):
I would highly recommend you watch Practical Magic 1 first
because there's just some little nuances that you'll enjoy if
you've just seen the first one. But it's interesting because
Nicole Kidman, who is one of the stars with Sandra Bullock,
she recently was in Australia and got interviewed by her
niece who were talking about the Kidman women and woo-woo.

Speaker 4 (14:28):
We know this about the Kidmen women.

Speaker 7 (14:30):
We sway to the more magical side.

Speaker 4 (14:32):
Some people would say witches. That all makes sense now.
What are your favorite spells?

Speaker 7 (14:37):
Love spells.

Speaker 4 (14:38):
But if I'm a little bit upset.

Speaker 7 (14:40):
With someone, I will write their name and put it
in the freezer.

Speaker 4 (14:43):
What does that do? Freezes the mouth.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
Okay, try and guess the name she's got in the freezer.

Speaker 4 (14:48):
Oh, Tom Cruise.

Speaker 7 (14:49):
And?

Speaker 4 (14:49):
Recently added, Keith Earth.

Speaker 6 (14:51):
There we go.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
We've nailed it.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
Two from two.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
That's so funny.

Speaker 5 (14:54):
Can you go into the freezer and grab the frozen meat?

Speaker 2 (14:59):
That's funny.

Speaker 4 (14:59):
But you'll have to push past the names of all
my exes.

Speaker 1 (15:02):
You go to Nicole's house to get a drink out
of the freezer and all these names pop out.

Speaker 6 (15:05):
That's hilarious.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
But that is definitely a little woo-woo, freezing out someone's name.

Speaker 7 (15:11):
Isn't it?

Speaker 1 (15:12):
We'll have Rob on the show after 8 o'clock this morning,
who is not at all spiritual, but he had a
moment where he was dragged out of a burning car
and swears that no one was there. The story's insane.

Speaker 2 (15:25):
When you hear about gas bottles and those burns, not
many people would survive them.

Speaker 5 (15:30):
Anyway, listen after Cash or Crash, after 8, because it
is well worth it.

Speaker 4 (15:34):
But Belle of Nudgee, I'm not woo-woo, but.

Speaker 9 (15:39):
I'm not woo-woo, but two years ago, I was driving
up the gateway heading south. I was behind a plumber's van.
All of a sudden, there was a voice in my
head said, move.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
Move over.

Speaker 9 (15:52):
So I merged to, got into the left-hand lane as
I was getting in. One only pipe came off that van.

Speaker 12 (16:00):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
A pipe.

Speaker 7 (16:03):
One only. Wow.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
So a pipe came off the van. If you were
driving where you had been right behind him, you reckon
that pipe was smashing into your car?

Speaker 9 (16:09):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 7 (16:10):
On the highway? Wow.

Speaker 9 (16:12):
And it was a voice that clearly said, get over, move.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (16:17):
I love this. I love this so much. You've given
me goosebumps. Thank you so much.

Speaker 5 (16:21):
Belle, we should say you'll get a double.

Speaker 1 (16:22):
To Practical Magic 2, Belle. Everyone gets doubles, don't they?

Speaker 4 (16:25):
Anita out of Beanley, I'm not woo-woo, but?

Speaker 12 (16:28):
I'm not woo-woo, but it's Feathers for me.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
Feathers, yeah. What happens?

Speaker 9 (16:33):
I lost hubby a couple of years ago in 22,
and he's always had feathers.

Speaker 10 (16:38):
He's had feathers in his hair and everything.

Speaker 9 (16:41):
So when he passed away, I'd see white feathers everywhere,
and I knew it was from him.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
Oh, that's nice.

Speaker 4 (16:48):
It's true.

Speaker 7 (16:49):
It works.

Speaker 4 (16:51):
I'm not we were but page of Deception Bay.

Speaker 12 (16:56):
When I was 15 years old, my best friend and
I were very close. I woke up screaming in the
middle of the night to my mother saying that she
was going to get a phone call from his mum
that he had been killed in a car accident. And
five minutes later his mum rang telling her about the
accident and I could tell her word for word what

(17:17):
happened because I felt like I was in the car
with him and I woke up the next day with
the exact same bruising on.

Speaker 10 (17:24):
My body that he had.

Speaker 7 (17:26):
No!

Speaker 2 (17:29):
What?

Speaker 12 (17:30):
And my bruising disappeared the day of his funeral.

Speaker 4 (17:35):
That's crazy.

Speaker 1 (17:36):
Did you see a doctor?

Speaker 5 (17:37):
What did people put that down to?

Speaker 4 (17:39):
That is insane.

Speaker 12 (17:40):
The doctor thought that I had actually drawn all over
myself with permanent marker and worked out that I hadn't.

Speaker 1 (17:48):
I've got proper goosebumps.

Speaker 7 (17:49):
That is.

Speaker 16 (17:49):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (17:50):
Wow, you need to go see Practical Magic too.

Speaker 9 (17:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
That's crazy.

Speaker 4 (17:55):
Yeah, what do you think about that though? What do
you think that was?

Speaker 12 (17:59):
He and I were extremely close. He was only six
months older than I was. And I had told him
earlier that day not to get in the car with
his friends. And his friends had said, oh, don't worry,
she's just being a paranoid female. And he ignored me.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
Wow, so it's almost like a premonition.

Speaker 4 (18:17):
And then the justification you were right. That's extraordinary, Paige.
Thank you, Paige. At Dallas out of Toowoomba, I'm not woo-woo, but.

Speaker 1 (18:27):
I'm not woo-woo, but.

Speaker 12 (18:28):
We've got race horses and this has happened quite a
few times.

Speaker 7 (18:32):
If we see three.

Speaker 12 (18:33):
Kookaburras sitting on the rails around the racing stables on
race day, The horse wins.

Speaker 3 (18:39):
No.

Speaker 4 (18:40):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
No, wait.

Speaker 7 (18:42):
Tell us.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
Can I get your number? And you text me when
there's kookaburras. Yeah, text us on a kookaburra day. On
a kookaburra day, right?

Speaker 9 (18:49):
That's awesome.

Speaker 2 (18:51):
That's awesome.

Speaker 7 (18:52):
Oh, I need that tip.

Speaker 4 (18:53):
Hunters are the best.

Speaker 1 (18:55):
Three kookaburras.

Speaker 9 (18:56):
Get on.

Speaker 3 (18:57):
Get on.

Speaker 4 (18:58):
And Kylie out of Griffin.

Speaker 9 (18:59):
Put the house on it.

Speaker 4 (19:01):
I'm not woo-woo, but.

Speaker 10 (19:03):
I'm not woo-woo, but like the other lady, my thing
is feathers. That always has been, so much so I
actually have a tattoo of a feather. But my brother
was very unwell. I went down to see him to
say goodbye, and the last thing I said to him was,
when you get where you're going, let me know. I
flew back from Bathurst here to Brisbane. My mum rang

(19:26):
to let me know he'd passed away. And the very
next morning I walked out to a wheelie bin and
there was a hot pink feather near my wheelie bin.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
Oh, wow.

Speaker 4 (19:39):
It is crazy.

Speaker 5 (19:40):
You don't need to understand why.

Speaker 10 (19:43):
Like, it was hot pink. It wasn't a mistake feather.
It wasn't something that had just fallen off a bird.
It was like out of a feather boa.

Speaker 8 (19:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (19:50):
It was hot pink.

Speaker 7 (19:52):
Yeah, it was.

Speaker 10 (19:52):
So I took that as my sign he got where
he was going.

Speaker 7 (19:55):
There you go.

Speaker 4 (19:55):
You asked him and he showed you.

Speaker 5 (19:58):
A double to go and see Practical Magic 2, Kylie.

Speaker 9 (20:01):
Oh, wonderful.

Speaker 10 (20:02):
Thank you very much, guys.

Speaker 1 (20:03):
Have a great day. Yeah, you too. I'm still shaken
by Paige's story.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
The bruising.

Speaker 1 (20:08):
With the bruising and knowing that the car accident had
happened without knowing.

Speaker 4 (20:12):
And having all the details.

Speaker 6 (20:14):
It's like you.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
Must have come to her.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
We're getting Dallas's number.

Speaker 1 (20:17):
Yeah, also we need Dallas's number.

Speaker 3 (20:21):
Robin, Kip and Corey Oates in the morning.

Speaker 1 (20:24):
All right, so halfway through the podcast, have a listen
to this. This is someone I heard singing on Instagram.
But I didn't know they were a singer. Have a
little listen and see if you can work out who
it is.

Speaker 7 (20:38):
What else do you do at 3 o'clock in the
morning after a night shoot, you know?

Speaker 16 (20:41):
Who is that? I don't know who that is.

Speaker 7 (20:52):
You do?

Speaker 4 (20:53):
I know the voice.

Speaker 16 (21:00):
Don't know why I didn't come. I don't know why
I didn't come.

Speaker 2 (21:11):
I've seen another clip similar to him singing it.

Speaker 7 (21:14):
It's incredible.

Speaker 1 (21:15):
Did you know he could sing?

Speaker 2 (21:16):
Jack Reacher, the guy, the big, huge man.

Speaker 1 (21:19):
Alan Richardson. Yeah, he's a giant action figure.

Speaker 4 (21:24):
And he can sing like that.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
And can sing like that.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
It was incredible when I heard his voice.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
It's insane, isn't it?

Speaker 6 (21:30):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
It seems like AI. It does. Because it's impossible to
see him and go, oh, yeah, you can sing like
that person.

Speaker 7 (21:36):
Wow. That's extraordinary.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
When you see him in the shows, like, he honestly,
he's one of the biggest men I've ever seen.

Speaker 1 (21:44):
And he's terrifying. His character can, like, break people in half.

Speaker 4 (21:48):
Voice of an angel.

Speaker 1 (21:49):
Voice of an angel.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
You know when you see a picture of a body that, like,
is muscly and all that? And it's got every line
where you're like, they don't exist. They exist on him.

Speaker 1 (21:59):
It's almost... His body's so good, though, it's almost... It's
hard to believe the character because... Yeah. Because he's doing
all these things and, like, you know, he's running off
and he's chasing and he's sleeping here and there and
he's on a plane and you go.
You have to be at the gym right now. The
only way that you're going to stay like that is

(22:19):
for you to be eating chicken breast and being at
the gym. There's no way that you can live a
life and look like that.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
He trains constantly.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
He must just non-stop training.

Speaker 6 (22:27):
He does.

Speaker 4 (22:28):
You guys are hilarious. We've just heard his voice and
you're going.

Speaker 1 (22:31):
Oh, yeah, he's different. But we're just saying after years.
He's so big.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
And he sounds great.

Speaker 4 (22:36):
There you go. I did not. I would not.

Speaker 7 (22:39):
No.

Speaker 4 (22:39):
I have never picked up.

Speaker 7 (22:41):
No.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
Not jealous. No. Not much.

Speaker 3 (22:45):
No, never.

Speaker 1 (22:47):
Yesterday, Corey and I, along with our mate Sammy Thaida,
did another episode of The Shed, which drops today, our podcast.
And we've got Jonathan Brown. We normally talk rugby league,
but we do do other sports. And obviously right now,
Brisbane's all about the Lions.

Speaker 6 (23:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (23:01):
So Brownie was there for the three-peat in 2002, 2003?
It was 1-2-3, I think.

Speaker 2 (23:08):
And they lost in 2004.

Speaker 1 (23:10):
And he's a great broadcaster now. He did brekkie radio
for ages down in Melbourne. Yeah, he did. But he's
had this last few months, he's had a shocking time
with his health. They found a massive brain tumour.

Speaker 4 (23:23):
That's extraordinary.

Speaker 7 (23:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (23:25):
The size of a golf ball it was.

Speaker 4 (23:26):
Was it like a cancerous?

Speaker 1 (23:28):
Well, he gives us the story here. You'll hear a
bit of it and also exactly how he actually came
to get the scans because he wasn't interested in doing them.
And I think he starts off talking about the phone
call he got from the person who'd done the scans.

Speaker 7 (23:41):
Not the phone call you're expecting because I didn't have
any symptoms for it.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
So you didn't have any warnings? You weren't getting headaches
or anything?

Speaker 3 (23:47):
No, no.

Speaker 15 (23:47):
I might have fell over and pissed a couple of times.
But it was for no other reason apart from Kylie.

Speaker 7 (23:52):
You know, I suppose all the publicity around CTE. Yeah.

Speaker 15 (23:55):
Now, I probably should have clicked because I was halfway
home to the Gold Coast and I get a phone
call from the hospital saying, are you still in the hospital?

Speaker 9 (24:02):
Oh, no.

Speaker 7 (24:02):
What was that?

Speaker 15 (24:03):
They said, oh, we just want you to come back
and do it. an extra part of the scan. And
I said, oh, is there any problem? They go, no, no, no,
it's fine. Can you come back in the next couple
of days? That probably should have been the first red flag. Anyway,
I went back a couple of days later, and then
the next morning I had a lot of missed calls
from the AFL. And anyway, I finally got back to them.

Speaker 7 (24:21):
It was the chief medical officer at the AFL. He said,
there's a problem with your brain scan. I said, oh, well,
I'm glad you found something. A lot of people thought, well,
is this going to be a hollow case? You guys, no,
it's like he said, it's serious. You've got to.

Speaker 15 (24:34):
A big shadow on your brain and can we have
a chat to you preferably this afternoon with your wife
on the phone regarding your brain scan?

Speaker 7 (24:41):
That's probably normally not that good.

Speaker 15 (24:44):
So anyway, it all happened pretty quick and within the next,
I reckon four or five days later I was on,
on the table going in for a brain surgery.

Speaker 1 (24:52):
Kyle's got a saying out of it, nagging wives save lives.

Speaker 7 (24:55):
Nagging wives save lives.

Speaker 15 (24:57):
You should get the merch range coming out soon.

Speaker 6 (25:00):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 7 (25:01):
It would actually.

Speaker 4 (25:03):
That's so amazing.

Speaker 2 (25:05):
Isn't it?

Speaker 1 (25:05):
Yeah, the full chat drops later on today on the show.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
And it was low grade, wasn't it? It was, you know.

Speaker 1 (25:10):
It was lucky it was benign. It was like a
cyst or whatever, so it wasn't cancerous. But he had
the full thing where they chopped the top of your
skull off, put that in the fridge. And then work
on your brain for hours, taking out the growth.

Speaker 4 (25:23):
And the way he explained it was- Can you see
the scarring?

Speaker 1 (25:26):
Just, but he got a great head of hair. He
really has. It grew back. It's so thick, his hair.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
It's thick as. He has a beautiful head of hair.

Speaker 4 (25:33):
It grew back.

Speaker 8 (25:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (25:34):
That's crazy.

Speaker 7 (25:35):
It is.

Speaker 2 (25:36):
He said it was, the doctor said it was so
perfectly formed, and it was like it was in its
own netting.

Speaker 7 (25:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (25:43):
And they just kind of popped it out of the net.

Speaker 2 (25:45):
I just had to grab it and pull it out.
It was so- Yeah. It was just sitting there waiting
to come out. It was incredible. He said, like, so lucky.
And he just said, and I went, you know, does
it make it a bit easier now to go on
golf trips? Like, look, darling, you never know what could happen.

Speaker 1 (26:01):
I could die in a minute.

Speaker 2 (26:02):
So I really need to go away.

Speaker 1 (26:03):
No, no, no.

Speaker 4 (26:04):
I didn't know that would fly.

Speaker 2 (26:05):
But he did. He said yes. But then he goes,
on the other hand, now she nags me all the
time and always brings it up. Now, last time.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
So true.

Speaker 2 (26:14):
Wasn't I right?

Speaker 4 (26:15):
See, amazing stories are in Brisbane.

Speaker 8 (26:18):
Yes.

Speaker 4 (26:18):
And that is another one.

Speaker 1 (26:19):
Yeah, true. Yeah, so you can check that whole one out.
That'll drop later on today.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
It was a great chat.

Speaker 1 (26:24):
He is a great chat.

Speaker 2 (26:25):
He's an incredible man. He really is. Player, but then also,
you know, now in the second part of his life.

Speaker 7 (26:31):
Nice human.

Speaker 2 (26:31):
Nice human. That's a good way to put it.

Speaker 7 (26:33):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (26:34):
Robin Kip and Corey Oates in the morning.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
We want your amazing stories. You can go to the website, kiss97. com. au,
and tell us all about it, which is exactly what
Rob and his daughter Molly did.

Speaker 2 (26:47):
Hey, guys.

Speaker 7 (26:48):
Hello.

Speaker 6 (26:48):
Hello.

Speaker 1 (26:49):
Hello.

Speaker 2 (26:49):
Hello.

Speaker 4 (26:50):
Hello, Dad.

Speaker 6 (26:51):
I've got my three musketeers, haven't I?

Speaker 4 (26:53):
Hey, Roy. You too, Rob.

Speaker 12 (26:55):
And Robin and Oatsy.

Speaker 7 (26:56):
Yes.

Speaker 12 (26:57):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (26:57):
No, don't worry about the other guy. He's all right.

Speaker 2 (26:59):
I told you not to get starstruck, Dad.

Speaker 1 (27:03):
Now, Molly, we got like about a 20 second version
of this story a while ago, but we were like, no,
this needs a proper platform. So tell us your amazing story.
And it involves your dad, Rob, who's on the phone now.

Speaker 2 (27:14):
Correct.

Speaker 1 (27:15):
From my understanding, you were just a child when this happened.

Speaker 8 (27:18):
Yeah, I was.

Speaker 11 (27:19):
So I was pretty much just about to turn five.
It happened on the 23rd of December 2003. So I
was two months away from being five years old. And
every year we would do a barbecue with my godparents
and grandparents. Dad decided he'd go and get new gas

(27:39):
bottles since we were going to have a barbecue. He
ends up going, my sister and I, who she would
have been about 12 at the time, she and I
were just constantly on his back, like, going, we want
to come too, we want to come too. Like, we
always went going in the car with Dad.

Speaker 7 (27:53):
Sure.

Speaker 11 (27:55):
Luckily, mum distracted us and said, no, dad, run. You
can go. So he goes off with the gas bottles,
swaps them over. And as he's going into Bell Street
to sort of go back home and bring the new
gas bottles home, one of the gas bottles leaked. and
ended up exploding in the back of the car, in

(28:16):
the back of his station wagon.

Speaker 6 (28:17):
He just heard a.

Speaker 11 (28:19):
Hissing noise and sort of looked around and saw that
one of them was leaking and said, yep, time to
put the window down. And that's ultimately what ended up
saving his life because he was able to get out
of the car. Yeah, ended up just outside Ipswich train
station and the car was just completely engulfed. And, you know,
Dad was all covered in burns. And I think, to

(28:43):
my recollection, it was 70%.

Speaker 9 (28:45):
Whoa.

Speaker 4 (28:47):
Okay, about this time, I feel like we should bring
Rob in.

Speaker 9 (28:49):
Yes.

Speaker 4 (28:51):
First of all, I'd like to say, isn't it great
you didn't go, Molly?

Speaker 7 (28:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (28:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 14 (28:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (28:56):
That's something we're really, really happy with, especially my mum.
She was like, well, you know, I would have lost
them all.

Speaker 7 (29:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (29:03):
Luckily, everyone survived because, you know, we were able to,
you know, mum was able to control us and dad
was able to, you know, focus on saving himself rather
than because there's no way he would have left the
car if we were in there.

Speaker 1 (29:16):
Yes.

Speaker 7 (29:17):
Wow.

Speaker 11 (29:18):
We would have all been gone.

Speaker 5 (29:20):
Okay, Rob, let's take us to the moment where you're
hearing the hissing and you realise something is wrong.

Speaker 4 (29:27):
What happened after that?

Speaker 6 (29:29):
It was down in Ipswich. I'm coming along the river
road and I hear this hissing and I go, hang on,
that's not right. So I've done a shoulder turn to
the left. I've seen some vapour coming out of this bottle,
and I thought, ooh. So I thought, I'll wind the
window down, because I thought, well, there's plenty of parking.

Speaker 14 (29:48):
At the railway.

Speaker 6 (29:49):
I'll stop there. Going around the second roundabout, it just exploded.

Speaker 9 (29:53):
Whoa.

Speaker 1 (29:54):
Do you know what the spark was?

Speaker 6 (29:56):
They tell me that it all happens under the seat
with these newfangled window winders and new cars. All the
stuff you've got is under your seat. And because LPG
is a heavy gas, it doesn't go.

Speaker 7 (30:08):
Up, it goes down.

Speaker 6 (30:08):
So it's gone down and something's happened with the electrics
and it's gone up.

Speaker 4 (30:14):
So you putting the window down sparked the explosion?

Speaker 6 (30:18):
Well, apparently, yes.

Speaker 1 (30:19):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (30:20):
But, whoa.

Speaker 4 (30:21):
Otherwise, you could gas yourself to death.

Speaker 1 (30:23):
Now, there's an alternative.

Speaker 6 (30:24):
There's your option. Bear in mind, it's a 42-degree day,
two days before Christmas, and so you think, okay, I've
got the air conditioner going, and I thought, well, I'm
going to need a window open here because I'm going
to have to get out or I'm going to have
to blip the gas out.

Speaker 2 (30:40):
If you can hear the gas, that's a big leak
if you can hear it coming out. Have they seen
how it started just leaking randomly?

Speaker 6 (30:47):
I believe that it's all about the gas expanding in
the tank. It was sitting on a hot platform against
a hot wall when I picked it up.

Speaker 1 (30:58):
Yeah, and now it's in the air conditioning of your
car and.

Speaker 7 (31:01):
You're moving around.

Speaker 6 (31:02):
That's exactly right. And I don't know what that does
inside a gas bottle, but it didn't do much good
that day.

Speaker 4 (31:09):
You two are hilarious.

Speaker 5 (31:11):
You're getting caught into the logistics rather than the fact that.

Speaker 1 (31:14):
I'm stunned by... What about those little plastic caps that
are always in them? Aren't they there to stop the leaking?

Speaker 6 (31:19):
Yeah, the little yellow screw cap now was developed after
my accident.

Speaker 1 (31:23):
Whoa!

Speaker 11 (31:24):
That's what happened because of Dad.

Speaker 1 (31:26):
That's incredible. That safeguard now that we all have every
time you pick up a swap and go, that's because
you nearly blew up.

Speaker 6 (31:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (31:34):
Wow.

Speaker 6 (31:35):
And when I.

Speaker 9 (31:37):
When I....

Speaker 7 (31:43):
Yes, it got me there.

Speaker 1 (31:45):
Oh.

Speaker 6 (31:46):
Oh, God.

Speaker 1 (31:46):
Sorry, mate.

Speaker 4 (31:47):
Do you know what?

Speaker 5 (31:48):
Let's give you a couple of moments to regroup, Rob,
and then let's come back.

Speaker 6 (31:53):
Yeah, it's okay. I was just going to say the
policeman that came and saw me in hospital only goes
to fatals, apparently.

Speaker 14 (32:02):
Wow.

Speaker 6 (32:03):
They said about five seconds. They said another five seconds
in the car.

Speaker 11 (32:08):
And he'd be gone.

Speaker 1 (32:09):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (32:10):
But you got out, and you got out, and you
were on fire.

Speaker 6 (32:13):
I was actually pulled out of a car.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (32:16):
If you can imagine, and this is where I get
really interested, because the car exploded, the window was down,
and I put my arms out.

Speaker 11 (32:26):
Do you want me to go, Dad?

Speaker 7 (32:30):
Go on, Molly.

Speaker 11 (32:31):
So, essentially, he put his arms out, and... Usually when
you think of someone trying to get out a window,
you see them sort of shoulder first or sort of
climbing their way out. But it was almost like he
was being pulled. He was being pulled out of the car,
even though there wasn't anyone there. He remembers being pulled

(32:52):
out of the car. Like you don't get out of
a car that way.

Speaker 6 (32:55):
I hadn't undone the seatbelt. I hadn't put the car
in park. I hadn't done anything. I put my arms
out the window. And you know the rest.

Speaker 9 (33:05):
And out he went.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (33:06):
Okay, what do you think that was, Rod?

Speaker 9 (33:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (33:09):
Something greater than you? Is that what you're saying?

Speaker 6 (33:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (33:12):
Oh, yeah.

Speaker 4 (33:13):
Like a spirit or something?

Speaker 9 (33:14):
Yeah, a God moment.

Speaker 6 (33:16):
Someone was looking after me.

Speaker 1 (33:17):
Yeah. Wow.

Speaker 4 (33:18):
A God moment.

Speaker 6 (33:19):
It was all caught on camera. They say that in
one of the camera angles you can actually see someone.

Speaker 2 (33:25):
See someone?

Speaker 4 (33:27):
You are meant to be here.

Speaker 5 (33:29):
So what is it over the last 23 years? that
has happened that you feel that's part of why you're
still here. And I know for a fact you changed
laws around gas bottles.

Speaker 4 (33:43):
You are meant to be here, my friend.

Speaker 14 (33:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (33:46):
100%.

Speaker 4 (33:48):
Absolutely.

Speaker 5 (33:49):
So that, I mean, I've got goosebumps all over my
body because it's these stories that make other people think
and believe about greater things than themselves.

Speaker 4 (33:56):
And that is wonderful.

Speaker 5 (33:57):
But let's go back to you're now, What, 70% burns
to your body?

Speaker 6 (34:03):
If you can imagine, the bottle was in the back
of the car. The explosion shot through from the console
to the windscreen and back into my face from the windscreen.

Speaker 8 (34:13):
Wow.

Speaker 6 (34:14):
So it hit my arm on the way through and
then hit my face and the rest of my body
on the way back.

Speaker 1 (34:20):
Where are you burnt?

Speaker 4 (34:21):
All up and down your arms, your.

Speaker 6 (34:22):
Legs, your face? The left arm had a skin graft.

Speaker 8 (34:27):
Mm-hmm.

Speaker 6 (34:28):
And my face was, my hair was burnt off and
my wife was concerned about my ears being burnt off
and she said, how's he going to hold his sunglasses on?
I wasn't burnt on the chest, but I was burnt
around the back of the neck and on the face.

(34:48):
And they're still there today. And they're with me all
the time now. And you look at it and you
can't forget it. But it's just part of who I
am now, you know.

Speaker 1 (34:57):
Hey, Rob, so this story is from December 23, 2003.
So 23 years ago. And yet you nearly broke down
or you did break down a couple of minutes ago.

Speaker 6 (35:07):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (35:08):
What is it that gets you when you retell this story?

Speaker 6 (35:11):
I'm an emotional person most of the time. Molly will
tell you, I can't watch a movie. I can't watch
a soppy movie without having a tear. For three weeks
there in hospital, I had a face the size of
a basketball and my eyes were closed and all puffed
up and everything. It was fairly intense. And there were

(35:31):
times when you get a bit of anxiety out of it.

Speaker 1 (35:34):
So is it the fear of the moment or is
it the way you feel now, whether it's blessed or
lucky to be alive?

Speaker 9 (35:40):
I'm glad to be here.

Speaker 6 (35:42):
I'm lucky to be here. But, I mean, I had
a lot of help. There was a lot of help.

Speaker 2 (35:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (35:48):
You know, I couldn't have done all.

Speaker 7 (35:50):
This on my own.

Speaker 6 (35:52):
And those three weeks were just horrendous.

Speaker 11 (35:55):
I just remember, like, my mum would have to do
the dressings every morning and every afternoon and just fresh
new dressings. And I thought, God, the burns weren't even
half of it. It was the recovery. And it's so
great to have a dad who is so.
We don't have men who show their emotion enough. And

(36:17):
I think getting his story out there, it shows that
you can get through it. If my dad can get
through what he got through. Anyone can.

Speaker 4 (36:27):
Well, I feel like this is a $ 500 story right now.

Speaker 7 (36:29):
It is.

Speaker 2 (36:29):
Yeah, I believe so.

Speaker 5 (36:31):
And I feel like this should be something that you
guys can go and celebrate as a family, maybe go
and have a great meal or do something together, whatever
you want to do, Rob.

Speaker 11 (36:40):
I think that's a great idea.

Speaker 6 (36:42):
As long as we don't have a barbecue.

Speaker 2 (36:43):
I was going to say, stay away from teppanyaki grills, Rob.

Speaker 11 (36:46):
We'll let someone else have a barbecue, hey?

Speaker 6 (36:50):
Thank you for letting me tell the story.

Speaker 2 (36:51):
Mate, it's an incredible story and thanks for sharing it.

Speaker 1 (36:53):
Appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (36:55):
Robin, Kip and Corey Oates in the morning.

Speaker 1 (36:58):
If you haven't heard it yet, get the podcast because
we had a full chat with Jai Arrow and his wife, Marina.

Speaker 6 (37:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (37:06):
It was a great chat.

Speaker 2 (37:07):
It was really great to see just how determined he is.
And it's not just about himself either. He's determined to
really grow and push the research and the funding and
trying to get so many people aware of.

Speaker 4 (37:23):
Because he's got MND.

Speaker 2 (37:24):
Of MND.

Speaker 5 (37:26):
The thing that I really enjoyed, right, and I know
this from my own experiences, when you have something that's
so life-altering like that and potentially terminal, that then becomes
the narrative of how everyone.

Speaker 4 (37:37):
Sees you and talks about you.

Speaker 7 (37:39):
Yes.

Speaker 5 (37:39):
And absolutely, in his case, as you said, he's creating
such great conversations and raising money. But he was also
and is also many other things.

Speaker 3 (37:49):
Yes.

Speaker 4 (37:50):
Of which you know a lot about.

Speaker 5 (37:52):
And it turns out his partner does not.

Speaker 7 (37:55):
No.

Speaker 3 (37:56):
No.

Speaker 1 (37:56):
So the cane-toed head, which we're about to get to.
So he had, it was a state of origin game.
Queensland won state of origin.

Speaker 2 (38:03):
2022, it was that game. It was the Ben Hunt.

Speaker 7 (38:07):
It was that game.

Speaker 4 (38:07):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (38:09):
So he goes then talking to fans after the game
and there's someone in the crowd wearing a cane-toed head.
Which is so ugly. So ugly.

Speaker 2 (38:17):
I think he said, can we have a photo? And
he said, if I can have that head.

Speaker 1 (38:21):
If I can have that hat.

Speaker 8 (38:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (38:23):
Cut to the next morning, the Today Show, or one
of them is doing interviews with Queensland players. He's still
been on it. He's been on it all night. Still
wearing the hat.

Speaker 2 (38:32):
It was a big night.

Speaker 1 (38:34):
And was able to string words together, but it was
just pure football. It was like full credits to the team.

Speaker 2 (38:40):
It was funny because a lot of us went to
bed that we didn't have to leave. Some had to fly.
The ones that stayed in Brisbane didn't have to fly.

Speaker 7 (38:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (38:46):
And I woke up a bit later and then I
seen the interview and I laughed because I knew how
many Beers he would have put down.

Speaker 1 (38:53):
So when we were talking with Jai and Barina, the
cane-toed head part of the conversation came up. Were you
with Jai at that stage in his life, Barina, with
the cane-toed head, the celebration after the Queensland game?

Speaker 14 (39:06):
No, thank God.

Speaker 1 (39:09):
Did you know about it?

Speaker 2 (39:11):
No.

Speaker 7 (39:12):
No.

Speaker 4 (39:13):
She may not be here, but she did.

Speaker 2 (39:16):
When you told your parents this is his name and
they looked him up, first phone, I just died of ketone.

Speaker 4 (39:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (39:23):
So, obviously, he'd calmed down a lot by the time
he met Perrina.

Speaker 7 (39:27):
Yes.

Speaker 5 (39:27):
They had a child together and, you know, great things.

Speaker 2 (39:31):
Yeah, but I think I might have, I hope I
didn't start a conversation after we hung up those phones.

Speaker 1 (39:36):
But we thought that is a conversation. 131065, what did
you find out about your partner? Like probably after you
got married?

Speaker 14 (39:44):
And just go, what?

Speaker 4 (39:45):
Hang on. Or even long term.

Speaker 5 (39:47):
Like, for example, I found out that my boyfriend, Olivier,
has the most crazy licenses. Like he has a license
to drive a tank.

Speaker 7 (39:55):
Wow.

Speaker 8 (39:56):
What?

Speaker 10 (39:56):
I know.

Speaker 7 (39:57):
That's wild.

Speaker 2 (39:57):
That's cool.

Speaker 5 (39:58):
So, you know, we're potentially going overseas at the end
of the year and we're going to drive one of
your mate's buses.

Speaker 1 (40:05):
Oh, the big tour bus.

Speaker 4 (40:05):
You know, Adam?

Speaker 11 (40:06):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (40:07):
And I was like, oh, you know, and he's like,
that's okay. I've got a tank license.

Speaker 7 (40:11):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (40:11):
Why doesn't he go driving over any of the other cars?

Speaker 2 (40:14):
Oh, that's so cool.

Speaker 1 (40:15):
But has your partner got a past that's pretty extreme
and was just not part of the original conversation?

Speaker 7 (40:23):
Got to be some.

Speaker 2 (40:23):
Come on.

Speaker 1 (40:24):
131065. Rob and Kip and Corey Oates.

Speaker 3 (40:25):
In the morning.

Speaker 1 (40:28):
We were just talking about our chat with Jai Yarrow
and his wife, Marina, where she found out some things
about Jai afterwards, like the fact that, you know, his
celebration after the Queensland win where he wore the cane-toed
head for 24 hours.

Speaker 4 (40:42):
It was insane.

Speaker 2 (40:43):
And became famous for the cane-toed head.

Speaker 7 (40:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (40:46):
She was like, I was not around. I didn't realise
that that was the man I was marrying.

Speaker 2 (40:49):
What's Tegan found out?

Speaker 1 (40:52):
What was the thing that surprised her about you?

Speaker 2 (40:54):
Well, growing up on a farm, obviously, you know, there's
a lot of things you can do and that you
probably can't do in the city. And one of those
was shooting. So you could grow up learning to shoot
targets and all that sort of stuff. And I don't
think she realized how much I just loved doing it.

Speaker 7 (41:10):
Right.

Speaker 2 (41:10):
I actually used to, every time I used to go
home on holidays, even when I left school, I used
to go home and I'd just use all Dad's bullets
and he hated it.

Speaker 3 (41:19):
He'd just go shooting.

Speaker 2 (41:21):
Because he'd be in the back somewhere so I wouldn't
even know.

Speaker 7 (41:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (41:24):
Yeah, I used to love it. There you go. It
was so weird because any time I got the opportunity
to go to a farm, I'd be like, come on,
can I go, can I go, I want to go.
She goes, calm down. Did not realise.

Speaker 1 (41:38):
She's a little concerned. Yeah, she goes, it's a little
bit scary. I don't have them that overly happy about it.
I think most of the things that Naomi has been
surprised by me are just annoying things like that. I
didn't think you'd be so into fixing things and tinkering
on bikes. You don't hear that bit on the radio.

Speaker 2 (41:57):
No. But also failing at those.

Speaker 1 (42:00):
Oh, yeah, and being terrible at it. Beating yourself up.

Speaker 5 (42:04):
You keep going back to it.

Speaker 1 (42:07):
Yes, being mad at the fact that you couldn't fix
the thing that you're not even qualified to fix.

Speaker 2 (42:11):
When you didn't live together, you'd always go, I'm just
going fixing this stuff. So she almost thought that. You
always fixed it.

Speaker 1 (42:16):
Yeah, no, she didn't realize I was just trying. But
one of my favorite is this scene. This is perfect
because next week we're doing nothing but the naughties all
week is from the movie Old School. And Will Ferrell's character,
he's going back to uni and he doesn't want to
fall back to his old Frank the Tank ways, which
his wife is very... Very concerned that he's, you know,

(42:38):
once he starts drinking again, he's going to be Frank
the Tank. But anyway, he goes to a frat party.

Speaker 7 (43:01):
Oh!

Speaker 16 (43:01):
Do it up again!

Speaker 4 (43:08):
Once it hits your lip!

Speaker 1 (43:12):
Counts of two hours later, Frank the Tank is streaking
through the quadrant. That's one of the all-time movies. It
was always there. Frank the Tank just trying to come back.

Speaker 4 (43:23):
Are you going to get Drew on?

Speaker 1 (43:24):
I think we should. We're over time, but we still
need to, Drew.

Speaker 4 (43:28):
Your story is extraordinary. Drew is our producer boss.

Speaker 1 (43:32):
Your lovely wife, Robyn, a different Robyn. Who we love.

Speaker 8 (43:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (43:35):
What did she find out about you?

Speaker 13 (43:36):
There was an incident that happened around 20 years ago
in the valley when a mate and I were walking
home after a couple of beers and we saw a
lady of the night. And I'd never seen one in
public before and I was interested, probably more interested at
three o'clock in the morning with a few beers under
my belt than I should have been. But so we
crossed the road to a mate and I to have
a conversation and it got graphic fairly quickly.

Speaker 8 (43:58):
Right.

Speaker 13 (43:59):
I had no intention, by the way, of doing anything. A,
because I've never wanted to and B, I was, you know,
there was a few too many beers involved.

Speaker 4 (44:07):
Yes.

Speaker 14 (44:07):
Started having a chat, talked about, she said, what do
you want? I said, I don't know. What do you do?
She went through the menu.

Speaker 8 (44:14):
Yep.

Speaker 7 (44:14):
Yep.

Speaker 14 (44:15):
And I said, look, I don't have any money. I did.

Speaker 13 (44:16):
If I said I don't have any money on me,
I'll walk to the ATM and I'll come back. And
I was going to go, right?

Speaker 14 (44:21):
She said, no, no, no. Just jump in my car.
I'll take you. We'll do it. Whatever you want.

Speaker 1 (44:25):
You didn't.

Speaker 7 (44:26):
No, no, no. Didn't.

Speaker 13 (44:27):
At that point, police come out of the bushes. She
was an undercover police officer.

Speaker 14 (44:33):
And because I mentioned I'll go and get money, that
was the offense.

Speaker 1 (44:36):
That was the transaction.

Speaker 7 (44:37):
Yes. No!

Speaker 14 (44:38):
Did you get arrested?

Speaker 13 (44:39):
Soliciting for purpose of prostitution.

Speaker 4 (44:44):
So you got arrested?

Speaker 14 (44:46):
I got, yes. I didn't get taken in. Did you
have to go to court? Yeah, I got a fine. Yeah,
it went to court. I didn't have to appear. How
much was the fine? It was a couple of hundred
bucks and no conviction, luckily.

Speaker 2 (44:56):
When you told her that, what did she say?

Speaker 4 (44:57):
At what point did you tell her that in your relationship?

Speaker 14 (45:00):
No, she found out, I think, when I told this
story on the radio here two years ago.

Speaker 6 (45:03):
What?

Speaker 3 (45:07):
Rub and keep and choreo it in the morning.
