Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's Rob and Kip and Corio. It's On Demand, the podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Okay, this is super cute. So Roger Federer has given
advice to Cruz Hewitt. Cruz Hewitt is the very good
tennis-playing son of Leighton Hewitt.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
Come on!
Speaker 2 (00:13):
But his Roger Federer advice is not just about tennis.
It's deeply personal. And also comes with a warning.
Speaker 4 (00:22):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
It's very cool.
Speaker 5 (00:24):
Wow.
Speaker 6 (00:25):
Rob and Kip and Corey Oates in the morning.
Speaker 7 (00:27):
What needs to go and get stuffed? It can be
an inanimate object. It can be a person.
Speaker 4 (00:33):
Whatever it is. Yeah, the Bruce.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
I just, I think there is now like, and everyone
who's now already on it because they need to get
into Brisbane City because if they don't leave at quarter
past six, they're not going to get here in time.
Speaker 5 (00:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Because it just, we have not progressed as quickly as
our population either to the Gold Coast or the Sunshine.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
Coast or Ipswich. Yeah. The Bruce on a weekend is just.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
It's because there's always construction.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Oh, there is construction currently around North Lakes. No, they're
trying to increase it, but it's just too slow.
Speaker 8 (01:09):
We can dig a tunnel under a river and build
that in years, but they can't rebuild a.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
or build more of a freeway that is.
Speaker 8 (01:20):
Not under anything.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
No bottlenecks. Why are there bottlenecks everywhere?
Speaker 2 (01:25):
Okay, Debbie out of Redcliffe, I can go get stuffed.
Speaker 9 (01:29):
Oh, the nasty motorbike riders that come flying up the
outside of you when they're only supposed to be filtering
in and out and they spit the buggery out of you.
Speaker 10 (01:39):
They can go and get stuffed. Fair enough.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
Yeah, they can give you a fright, the old motorbikes.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
I had one pass me on a roundabout.
Speaker 5 (01:47):
What?
Speaker 3 (01:48):
I've never told you that.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
That's dangerous.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
That's so dangerous.
Speaker 8 (01:50):
It was so bad. He was sitting up my bum
the whole time. And then the roundabout, he went inside me,
and I went, Mike.
Speaker 5 (01:58):
That's just silly.
Speaker 4 (01:59):
Give yourself a chance, mate.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
As the resident bike passenger here in the studio, I
see some appalling behavior from bike riders all the time.
And I look at them and I go, mate, I
know how dangerous this is sitting on the back.
Speaker 5 (02:13):
Of the bike.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
Why are you doing that?
Speaker 11 (02:14):
I know.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
Do you genuinely like just playing with your own life?
Speaker 12 (02:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (02:18):
You idiot.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
Sue out of Forest Lakes.
Speaker 5 (02:20):
Hey, Sue.
Speaker 10 (02:21):
G'day, g'day.
Speaker 5 (02:22):
How you going, guys?
Speaker 12 (02:23):
Great.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
What needs to go and get stuffed?
Speaker 13 (02:25):
When you've had a hard day at work and all
you want to do after dinner is have a nice
warm shower.
Speaker 5 (02:30):
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 13 (02:31):
And the kids get in before you and you get
distracted and you jump in and they've used.
Speaker 14 (02:36):
All the hot water.
Speaker 10 (02:37):
Oh, yeah, man.
Speaker 5 (02:38):
That can get stuff, especially in winter.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
That can get stuff.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
With their four-hour showers.
Speaker 5 (02:45):
Oh, that is.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
We're all there with you, Sue.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
Kelly, out of Caboolture, what can go.
Speaker 4 (02:53):
And get stuff?
Speaker 13 (02:54):
Youth basketball can go and get stuck.
Speaker 5 (02:57):
Why?
Speaker 1 (02:58):
Now, why youth basketball?
Speaker 5 (03:00):
Why?
Speaker 13 (03:01):
It's fantastic for the kids. It's just not great for parents.
Me personally, I spend every weeknight and all day Sunday
at basketball, and I still can't catch.
Speaker 5 (03:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (03:12):
And then Brett basketball.
Speaker 13 (03:14):
Where you're trapped half of a weekend in a stadium
with people that you don't like and then you have
this score bench and you sit next to some Karen
from the other team who's going to.
Speaker 10 (03:23):
Be the next LeBron James.
Speaker 13 (03:26):
Oh, man, the pressure.
Speaker 6 (03:28):
And then also, you get.
Speaker 13 (03:30):
Roped into becoming the secretary of the basketball club.
Speaker 15 (03:34):
Where your main job is dealing with complaints from parents
who say youth basketball could go and get stuff.
Speaker 5 (03:40):
Oh, Kel.
Speaker 6 (03:42):
Kelly.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Oh, babe, you're going to be hard to beat.
Speaker 7 (03:45):
That's a front runner right there for our Golf Central.
So if you've got one for us, 131065.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
You forgot Catherine.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
Oh, do we?
Speaker 16 (03:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Hello, Catherine Ananda.
Speaker 17 (03:56):
Good morning, guys.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
Hey, Catherine.
Speaker 15 (03:59):
It's a six-bedroom house that has been built opposite me,
and there's eight cars, and they have one car garage.
Speaker 5 (04:08):
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Just not planning for car parking.
Speaker 5 (04:11):
Eight cars.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
That puts it on the street, right? That takes everyone
else's street parking, correct?
Speaker 9 (04:17):
Yes, correct.
Speaker 8 (04:18):
It's not one of those houses where all the cars
have got holes drilled into their mufflers, is it, and
they sit out there and rev them?
Speaker 5 (04:26):
Not one of them?
Speaker 15 (04:26):
No, but they've got a big, like a bike, and
he even parks on the road.
Speaker 4 (04:32):
Everyone's on the road.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
That's not okay.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
I don't like that.
Speaker 7 (04:35):
So when they build those apartment buildings, and they're all
two-bedroom apartments, but all one car park.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
I know.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Who do you think lives there, people?
Speaker 4 (04:43):
Yeah, how's that going to work?
Speaker 7 (04:44):
You're assuming that half the building's right under cycling.
Speaker 5 (04:48):
Yeah, sure.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
Or the couple works at the same place.
Speaker 5 (04:51):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Or they have one car park and then because of
body cop rules, they don't allow electric battery charges.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
Oh, yeah, no charges.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
So even if you wanted to have an electric bike,
you can't.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
You can't, exactly.
Speaker 7 (05:04):
What needs to go and get stuffed? We've got a
session at Golf Central for our favourite this morning.
Speaker 6 (05:09):
Robin, Kip and Corey Oates in the morning.
Speaker 7 (05:11):
What needs to go and get stuffed? 13-1065 is our number.
This can be therapeutic. It's always interesting when a member
of the team says, I've got something I want to
say to go and get stuff, and it makes you
instantly fear that it's you.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Well, particularly with wonderful Karen, who's our audio producer and extraordinaire,
and we put a lot of pressure on her a
lot of the time.
Speaker 5 (05:33):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
So is it us?
Speaker 4 (05:34):
No, it's not you guys.
Speaker 18 (05:35):
You're safe this time.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
Okay, this time.
Speaker 5 (05:38):
All right.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
It's not forever.
Speaker 18 (05:39):
So I want to preface it by saying, obviously, we
wake up very, very early in the morning. And so
on the weekends, I like to sleep in.
Speaker 6 (05:47):
Fair.
Speaker 18 (05:48):
So I got a wrong number text message, multiple, between
3 and 4 a.m.
Speaker 6 (05:55):
On Sunday.
Speaker 18 (05:57):
Sunday. Inappropriate photos and videos. And when I did not
reply because I was asleep.
Speaker 12 (06:03):
Yep.
Speaker 18 (06:03):
Kept messaging, sending more videos.
Speaker 11 (06:06):
What?
Speaker 2 (06:07):
What are you doing, mate?
Speaker 18 (06:09):
Wrong number text. So obviously it's a number he doesn't know.
Speaker 12 (06:12):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
And he's just straight up sending all these videos.
Speaker 7 (06:15):
So you reckon someone's giving him a fake number probably.
Speaker 17 (06:18):
I reckon, yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:19):
And unfortunately that's your number.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
Yeah, and I was so mad. Is it illegal for
us to ring him?
Speaker 7 (06:26):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
I mean, it should be illegal to send dick pics
to people you don't know.
Speaker 6 (06:30):
But this is my point.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
I think it's illegal in general.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
I mean, we have a platform where we can protect.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
We can.
Speaker 6 (06:36):
One of our own.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
But I'm not sure if we're allowed to do that.
Speaker 11 (06:39):
No, I don't.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Why don't we pre-record after show?
Speaker 4 (06:42):
Yes, let's do that. To protect the innocent.
Speaker 7 (06:44):
All right, so this time tomorrow we'll have a chat
to that, but we're trying to record it after the
show and we'll have that chat this time tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
And if it's highly illegal, we never said a thing.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
Yes, exactly. But that can go and get stuffed.
Speaker 5 (06:53):
Fair enough.
Speaker 19 (06:54):
Yes, it is.
Speaker 5 (06:54):
131065.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
What else?
Speaker 5 (06:59):
John out of Ipswich.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
What can go and get stuffed?
Speaker 11 (07:04):
People that park their car across the footpath. I'm in
a wheelchair.
Speaker 5 (07:15):
Oh, yes.
Speaker 11 (07:16):
And they have a van or something parked right across...
The footpath, you can't get around them at all.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
Yes.
Speaker 5 (07:25):
That's true, mate.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
I agree. They don't even think about it.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
They just pull in.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
I'll just drop it there.
Speaker 7 (07:30):
It's on the driveway. They don't think they're blocking off
the path. Yeah, that can go and get staffed.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
I hear you.
Speaker 7 (07:34):
Actually, yeah, if you're walking with kids in a pram
and stuff as well, that gets you.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
All of a sudden, you're out on the road.
Speaker 6 (07:40):
Yeah, it's not right.
Speaker 5 (07:41):
It's not fair.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Tracy out of Ipswich, walking to get staffed.
Speaker 14 (07:46):
Look, dad's son-in-law.
Speaker 10 (07:47):
Dad's son-in-law.
Speaker 5 (07:50):
Dad?
Speaker 4 (07:50):
Did you say dad?
Speaker 12 (07:51):
Dad.
Speaker 15 (07:52):
If I hear you and Colin, you sound like good son-in-laws.
Speaker 17 (07:57):
I've got one.
Speaker 15 (07:58):
Now, I don't want my daughter to leave him. I
want him dead.
Speaker 4 (08:04):
Oh, my goodness, Tracy. I mean, just give us some
of your, what are the offences? What's he do?
Speaker 14 (08:12):
Oh, mate, it starts when he breathes.
Speaker 15 (08:14):
It starts when he breathes.
Speaker 14 (08:16):
As always, there is nothing, nothing in that relationship that's
not him. He's selfish and, look, he hates me. And
all I want to do is look after my son-in-law,
cook for him and send him back to his wife.
But all I do is go to bed dreaming on
how I can get him dead.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
Oh, my goodness, Tracy.
Speaker 6 (08:39):
That is an airing of.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Grievances right there.
Speaker 6 (08:44):
Wow.
Speaker 12 (08:44):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
I don't understand what he's done, though, love. Is it
just because he's mean to your daughter?
Speaker 14 (08:50):
Yes, he is.
Speaker 4 (08:52):
He is.
Speaker 10 (08:52):
Selfish.
Speaker 5 (08:53):
He's selfish.
Speaker 10 (08:55):
And he hates me.
Speaker 5 (08:56):
Okay. That's rough. Sorry, Tracy.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
That doesn't sound good. But still, I think we've got it.
We've got to award a winner.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
We can't award violence now.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Yeah, offering a death wish and then giving someone a
Golf Central voucher.
Speaker 4 (09:10):
It's not quite right.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
No, I'm not putting a club in Tracy's hand.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
Come on, son.
Speaker 6 (09:16):
Let's go to Golf Central.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
Let's go to Golf Central. Come with me.
Speaker 4 (09:19):
Come, we'll have a bit of tea.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
Are we then accessories.
Speaker 5 (09:22):
After the fact?
Speaker 13 (09:23):
Here we are.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
So Kelly out of Caboolture.
Speaker 7 (09:24):
Maybe this will be the new sport, Kelly, because she
hates youth basketball.
Speaker 13 (09:29):
Maybe.
Speaker 10 (09:30):
It's worth a try.
Speaker 5 (09:31):
It's worth a try.
Speaker 7 (09:32):
So a session at Golf Central for you, and who knows,
maybe in a few weeks you'll be calling up to
say that golf can.
Speaker 6 (09:42):
Go against stuff.
Speaker 7 (09:45):
We're talking about things that you're hanging on to because
we had this call just a couple of days ago
about an iPod.
Speaker 15 (09:51):
Remember those little iPods that you got? Yeah.
Speaker 11 (09:56):
Well, I've got that.
Speaker 15 (09:57):
And it still goes in my car and the only
way I could use it it is through the screen
on the actual car to.
Speaker 10 (10:02):
Play my music and it still goes today.
Speaker 19 (10:04):
It's got a big black dot in the middle of it.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
It's got a black dot so you can't see what's
on the screen. You're just hanging on to that old tech.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
How old is that?
Speaker 11 (10:13):
I mean, 25?
Speaker 4 (10:13):
Oh, I don't think they're that old. I think it
was early 2000s. Okay.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
Well, early 2000s is 20-odd years.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
20 years, yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
If he's talking about the screen iPods, is that the
one he's talking about?
Speaker 18 (10:25):
I think so.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
So I've got one of those.
Speaker 8 (10:26):
I'm pretty sure I've still got one at home. I've
kept it for this long. And funny enough, I kept
the charger part. So the big wide one because they
don't make them anymore.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
So I kept that charger.
Speaker 5 (10:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
We've gone through.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
Two or three different charges since then.
Speaker 8 (10:41):
The reason why I've kept is, I don't know why, but-
One of the playlists on there is just.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
Can you bring it in?
Speaker 3 (10:47):
I'd love it.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
That would be fun.
Speaker 8 (10:49):
If I can find it, because we moved, if it's
still in the same place, I'll be able to find
it and bring it in for you.
Speaker 4 (10:54):
That's fun. I wonder if the battery's got any life left.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
I was going to say, that's probably the other question.
Speaker 7 (10:58):
I did chuck mine when we did the last move.
I had the little one, the little nano or whatever,
the running one.
Speaker 18 (11:04):
Oh, the mini?
Speaker 3 (11:05):
Like the one with just a circle and the buttons?
Speaker 5 (11:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
I think that's time.
Speaker 5 (11:08):
It's time.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
You've got to go.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
Do you know my mum, I mean, bless her, she
is 91, but I have been trying for the last, oof,
at least 10 years to buy her a Dyson.
Speaker 5 (11:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
And she won't because she still has the Hoover vacuum
cleaner that she has had that she got as a
wedding present.
Speaker 5 (11:27):
In the 60s. Wow. The cord?
Speaker 2 (11:31):
The old upright that you just plug in.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
Has it got a bag? Yes, it's got a bag.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
One of those big circle ones?
Speaker 2 (11:39):
I don't think anyone, I don't even know how.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
She uses it. So that's, hang on, from the 60s.
Early 60s. Like a 60-year-old vacuum cleaner.
Speaker 5 (11:45):
Vacuum cleaner.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
To be fair, they did make things better in those days.
Speaker 5 (11:52):
They did. It still works.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
That's unbelievable. It's probably coming out the hole.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
As you say, it's probably blowing back out.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
I am not interested in seeing that thing move.
Speaker 18 (12:02):
Oh, no.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
What are you hanging on to?
Speaker 7 (12:03):
Have you got some old tech or something that maybe
only you think is vintage?
Speaker 6 (12:09):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
131065.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
And actually, speaking of dinosaurs, we'll send you to Dinosaur
World Live.
Speaker 11 (12:14):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
That's fun.
Speaker 4 (12:19):
That's fun.
Speaker 5 (12:20):
Family adventure.
Speaker 7 (12:21):
You can book at dinosaurworldlive.com.au. But, yeah, tell us what
you're hanging on to on 131065. Rob and Kip and
Corey Oates.
Speaker 6 (12:29):
In the morning.
Speaker 7 (12:30):
Doing it for Templin Webster, talking about old stuff you're
hanging on to. Because we spoke to a guy who's
got an old iPod with a, cracked screen, a big.
Speaker 4 (12:39):
Black dot in the middle of the screen.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
He can't see it unless he plugs it in.
Speaker 4 (12:42):
But he can plug it into his car and still
get it to work.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
There's something within me that really respects that.
Speaker 6 (12:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
That still will utilise the thing because it works rather
than chuck it out and.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
Send it to another tip, you know, like the landfill.
No landfill.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
It was all built better back then. I feel like
things were built properly.
Speaker 12 (12:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
Alana from our newsroom.
Speaker 16 (13:00):
Yes, this links to one I have. So ours is
a lawnmower. I don't even know how old it is,
but it's an old school petrol push lawnmower. And while
I'm 30, it was given to my mum.
Speaker 18 (13:12):
Before I was born.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
She still uses it.
Speaker 16 (13:15):
She got it in the divorce.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
She was very happy about that.
Speaker 16 (13:19):
And it is, she's like, I get it serviced.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
What is it, a Honda or something?
Speaker 6 (13:22):
I couldn't tell you.
Speaker 16 (13:23):
But actually, I should know because as a housewarming gift,
mum's like, I've invested, like, for you and Jessie, it's
the same type. It's the modern version of the same
type that I got.
Speaker 5 (13:33):
Yes.
Speaker 6 (13:34):
Like, it lasts.
Speaker 16 (13:35):
And I should know because now I own it.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
I have no idea. That's not my area.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
Do you still work it? Like, do you still use it?
Speaker 16 (13:41):
Oh, my mum still, it's her lawnmower is the one
that she's had for over 30 years.
Speaker 6 (13:45):
And I just looked it up.
Speaker 16 (13:46):
For anyone wondering, 8.5 to 10 years is the average
with a, you know.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
Regular service.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
Regular servicing.
Speaker 18 (13:53):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
It's going on over 30.
Speaker 18 (13:55):
30 years.
Speaker 4 (13:55):
Actually, you made me think.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
My grandmother's sewing machine, which would, like my grandmother's birthday
was the 2nd of September and she would have been 126.
Classic machines. So, yeah, we're talking like nearly 100 years old.
Speaker 5 (14:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
D of Alex Hills, what have you got?
Speaker 10 (14:11):
Hi, guys. Just briefly, speaking of lawnmowers, we have over
20 vintage lawnmowers.
Speaker 7 (14:18):
Now, are they vintage to everyone or just to you?
Speaker 10 (14:20):
Oh, no, they're 1955.
Speaker 5 (14:23):
Oh, wow.
Speaker 10 (14:25):
We have a three-wheeler 1970 ride-on mower.
Speaker 6 (14:30):
Wow.
Speaker 10 (14:31):
And we have a 1980, one of the first electric
lawnmowers with the power lead.
Speaker 5 (14:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (14:36):
But the old thing we have that we hang on to,
it's a Bible, and the person's name and address is
written in it, and it says 1905.
Speaker 5 (14:45):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (14:46):
120 years. That's crazy.
Speaker 10 (14:48):
The most amazing old thing we are all hanging on
to is our grandmother. She was 105 in May.
Speaker 5 (14:54):
Oh, wow. There you go.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
Hold on to Nana.
Speaker 4 (14:58):
She's a bit better than an iPod. Yeah, slightly.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
Craig, out of Wakely, what is it? What's the old
thing that you've still got.
Speaker 5 (15:07):
Hey, guys.
Speaker 19 (15:08):
Great show. It's not a piece of equipment. It's actually
probably a collector's piece. It'll be a good one for you,
Corey and Kip. I've got an Alan Langer figurine that
was released back in 1988 when the Broncos made their debut.
It's in the Powers uniform.
Speaker 5 (15:32):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
Is it still in the box?
Speaker 19 (15:36):
Still in the box.
Speaker 5 (15:37):
Oh, wow.
Speaker 19 (15:38):
And he autographed it himself. And when he autographed it,
he said to me, I haven't seen one of these
for years.
Speaker 5 (15:47):
Whoa.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
There you go.
Speaker 7 (15:49):
I'd love to know what that's worth. Did they all have, like,
did Wally have one? Did they have a few players
with one back then, I wonder?
Speaker 3 (15:56):
I can't remember I'm not sure to be honest with
you I do.
Speaker 8 (15:59):
Remember seeing some I don't know if every player had
them but I still.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
Think no matter what that is that's really cool.
Speaker 7 (16:06):
Yeah Kerry out of Burping Gary East what are you
hanging on to Kerry?
Speaker 15 (16:10):
I have a VHS video recorder, which I had in
my bedroom as a teenager. I'm 52 now, and I
brought it across to Australia, and I have to use
an adapter to use it to watch my son's videos
and our wedding videos.
Speaker 6 (16:25):
You know you.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
Can get them changed DVDs.
Speaker 5 (16:28):
You can, Kerry.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
You can get them changed over.
Speaker 15 (16:32):
I like the nostalgia.
Speaker 4 (16:34):
I get it.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
Where you have to rewind and fast forward.
Speaker 15 (16:39):
That's exactly right.
Speaker 4 (16:41):
That's so cute. That's great.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
Stacey out of Runcorn, what you got?
Speaker 10 (16:46):
Two things.
Speaker 15 (16:46):
So I've got a Nintendo Game Boy that still works
with about 10 cassettes.
Speaker 5 (16:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 15 (16:53):
Two lines that go down the screen, but it's still fabulous.
Speaker 5 (16:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 15 (16:58):
And the other thing is I kept on.
Speaker 10 (16:59):
To a whole of my Barbies and my Cindy doll
when I was growing up.
Speaker 15 (17:04):
So like I was.
Speaker 13 (17:05):
I'm a 70s child, holding onto it, hoping my daughter
would love it, and she hated Barbie.
Speaker 5 (17:10):
Oh, no.
Speaker 10 (17:11):
I had a new.
Speaker 15 (17:13):
Case full of Barbies and these vintage Barbie clothes, and
they never got used.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
Oh, that's the worst.
Speaker 4 (17:20):
I would have taken them.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
I wasn't allowed a Barbie.
Speaker 4 (17:22):
Weren't you?
Speaker 2 (17:23):
No, my feminist mother.
Speaker 6 (17:25):
Oh, my goodness.
Speaker 15 (17:25):
I had one Barbie in one city, and Christmas Day,
my brother broke her arm off.
Speaker 19 (17:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (17:31):
I was going to.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
Stacey, I used to sneak into the next-door neighbours and
steal their Barbie.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
Oh, just because your mum wouldn't let you have a Barbie.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
Mum wouldn't let you have a Barbie.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
That's the worst.
Speaker 7 (17:42):
Well, we're going to send Stacey to Dinosaur World Live,
a rawsome family adventure you can book now at dinosaurworldlive.com.au.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
We've got to get to news.
Speaker 7 (17:51):
We've got some entertainment news coming up and then Jai
Arrow joining us.
Speaker 6 (17:56):
Robin Kip and Corey Oates in the morning.
Speaker 7 (17:59):
Halfway through the podcast. So that's crazy that Leighton Hewitt's
son is now playing, him and Beck.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Yeah, well, yes, their child is 17, Cruz Hewitt, and
he's done very well. I think he won or he
certainly got to the finals of the Junior Wimbledon.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
Right, okay.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
So he's a very good tennis player.
Speaker 8 (18:15):
Yeah, I have heard his name around the tennis world.
Speaker 2 (18:18):
Yeah, but it's interesting because Roger Federer, who is now
retired and possibly the greatest goat of all time.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
When it comes to tennis.
Speaker 3 (18:24):
He is the goat, definitely.
Speaker 6 (18:25):
Has to be.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
Has given some advice to crews.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
And on the surface, the advice seems pretty logical. Stay focused,
young man. You're only 17. Just really double down on
your tennis.
Speaker 5 (18:37):
Okay.
Speaker 6 (18:38):
However, I think.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
The reason why Roger has said that is Roger has
17-year-old girl twins.
Speaker 5 (18:47):
Ah.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
And those girls have been seen hanging around.
Speaker 5 (18:51):
Oh.
Speaker 18 (18:52):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
They were together in January.
Speaker 12 (18:57):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
And he has also apparently suggested that he might move
to Switzerland.
Speaker 4 (19:02):
To further his career.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
So Roger's just back off, boys.
Speaker 5 (19:07):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (19:08):
He's like, come on, mate. Get out of it.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
Myla and Charlene are the twins.
Speaker 4 (19:13):
I bet you they're gorgeous.
Speaker 3 (19:15):
Of course.
Speaker 5 (19:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
So, yeah. Daddy's gone, you know, focus on your tennis,
all right?
Speaker 3 (19:21):
I don't even know who he's married to.
Speaker 8 (19:23):
But Roger Federer himself, like, he's got the beautiful hair.
Speaker 12 (19:26):
Yeah, he is.
Speaker 4 (19:27):
And he's got that really gorgeous man.
Speaker 5 (19:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (19:29):
Great looking man. Isn't that fun?
Speaker 5 (19:31):
Yeah. Wow.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
I wonder what Leighton Hewitt sang.
Speaker 12 (19:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (19:35):
Okay, sure.
Speaker 4 (19:35):
You go, son. Yeah, Leighton's advice is.
Speaker 6 (19:39):
Yeah, baby.
Speaker 7 (19:40):
You get those aces, mate.
Speaker 6 (19:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (19:50):
Right.
Speaker 4 (19:52):
And they're twins, mate. You can miss one.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
Now you've got a second serve.
Speaker 5 (19:56):
No, mate.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
Don't.
Speaker 5 (19:58):
Don't.
Speaker 6 (20:01):
Robin, Kip and Corey Oates in the morning.
Speaker 7 (20:04):
So before we get into this chat with Jai Arrow,
we should say that we're going to refer to this
cane-toed head, which if you don't know the story.
Speaker 5 (20:12):
I.
Speaker 4 (20:12):
Don't, actually.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
It was the day after State of Origin.
Speaker 4 (20:16):
Queensland had had a win.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
They won.
Speaker 12 (20:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (20:19):
And they went to do a live interview, live television interview,
and Jai, the day after, is still wearing the cane-toed
head that he'd stolen from a fan.
Speaker 5 (20:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
For a beer.
Speaker 5 (20:29):
Because we should say.
Speaker 3 (20:31):
No, no, he just got a beer and then stole
his hat.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
We're assuming everyone knows Jai Arrow, right? So he played
for the Rabbitohs, he played for the Broncos, State of Origin, Titans.
And he's become really in everyone's hearts because of MND.
Speaker 7 (20:45):
Yes. And so we've had a chat with Jai and
his wife, Barina, over Zoom. It's Rob and Kip and
Corey Oates on Kiss 97.3.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
And we have Jai Arrow with us.
Speaker 2 (20:55):
And his beautiful wife.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
Yes.
Speaker 5 (20:57):
Hello, Barina. Hello. Hello. This is my interpreter.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
That's your interpreter.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
Okay, gotcha.
Speaker 5 (21:08):
Translator. Translator.
Speaker 8 (21:10):
I still need one of those, don't worry, because I
talk absolute gibberish.
Speaker 5 (21:14):
What?
Speaker 1 (21:15):
Yeah, at least Jai's got an excuse.
Speaker 4 (21:16):
What's your excuse?
Speaker 8 (21:18):
I'm a Bogan Aussie, so that's my excuse.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
Jai, we should ask you, because you would have stories
of the gibberish choreos.
Speaker 12 (21:25):
I think the amount of complaining. I used to do.
Speaker 5 (21:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (21:37):
This last couple of weeks for you, Jai, I feel
like must have been pretty incredible. And just seeing you,
you know, the weekend just gone, the South Roosters game.
The amount of support that you obviously have from the
crowd and fans of the game, but it's also the,
just everyone in it. And just even having, you know,
I think that footage of Wayne Bennett pulling on your
(21:57):
socks before the game was.
Speaker 4 (21:59):
Who would.
Speaker 8 (22:00):
Have thought he was going to put on your socks?
Speaker 2 (22:02):
It was incredible.
Speaker 4 (22:03):
Yeah. How's it been for you, mate?
Speaker 5 (22:06):
Yeah, pretty surreal.
Speaker 12 (22:08):
I'm truly appreciative of everything and it's been a while, right?
But I wouldn't change it for the world and I
didn't think I'd ever have Wayne Bennett Change my socks.
Speaker 8 (22:25):
People struggle to get Wayne to say hello and smile
at him.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
He's changing your socks.
Speaker 7 (22:32):
Those moments when you came out onto the field and
heard the crowd just going berserk, how did that feel?
Speaker 12 (22:37):
It's so hard to explain the feeling that when I
hit the field and heard the crowd I was in awe.
Speaker 8 (22:47):
Watching the game, as soon as that happened, the Spencer, Lenu,
you know, when he was blowing up, all I could
think about was you thinking that you should be out
there because you think you can fight.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
Did you want a pound?
Speaker 19 (22:59):
No.
Speaker 4 (22:59):
Did you want a pound?
Speaker 5 (23:00):
Come on.
Speaker 8 (23:01):
Do you wish you were out there pushing and shoving
but then praying to God he doesn't throw a punch?
Speaker 3 (23:07):
In all honesty, you wouldn't have been able to throw
one back, mate. We all know that you weren't a
fighter at all.
Speaker 13 (23:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (23:14):
You weren't. You weren't.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
Verena, can I ask you, how did you go with
that moment? Because I, sitting at home watching with my
kids and my family, I mean, I was howling. It
was the most special, amazing thing to witness.
Speaker 17 (23:28):
Yeah, a week before that, we were in the Gold Coast.
It was the Bunnies against the Titans, and that was
his 99th game walking out, and that was also quite emotional.
So I was prepared for this one to be even
more emotional. On one hand, I was very proud of him,
I'm still very proud of him for being able to
do that. And even though it's nerve wracking, be able
(23:50):
to walk out.
Speaker 5 (23:51):
Yeah, it was hard.
Speaker 6 (23:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 17 (23:54):
But on the other hand, you know, I'm glad that
he got to say goodbye to his career and, you know,
have that opportunity.
Speaker 8 (24:02):
For me, the photos with my kids, the one that
Jai got, is that something that you are so thankful
that he was able to get, you know, with the
jersey on and giving your beautiful daughter a big cuddle?
Speaker 5 (24:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 17 (24:14):
She just turned 17 months old today. So she's got
no idea what's going on. She's his daddy's girl. She
loves Jai so much. So to get those moments where
when she's a bit older, she could look back on
and I can even look back on and cherish and
Jai can. I think that's. means more to us than
anything else.
Speaker 5 (24:32):
And I ain't going anywhere.
Speaker 1 (24:36):
No, you're not.
Speaker 7 (24:37):
That was the moment that got me. I've got a
two-year-old daughter as well. When you hugged your daughter and
you broke down, I went to water.
Speaker 4 (24:44):
What was it about that moment that struck you so hard?
Speaker 5 (24:49):
All in general.
Speaker 12 (24:51):
It's every time I see her, I break down.
Speaker 5 (24:58):
As soon as I see my daughter, I'm gone. I'm
a mess.
Speaker 8 (25:03):
Do you not think about the photos that she's going
to have for her life and not only is she
going to have to deal with the frogs, Photo of
the cane toad hat on your head for a whole life.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
But then she's also going to be able to have
that one next to her. Do you ever think about that?
Speaker 8 (25:20):
Here's dad when he's the party dad.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
And then this is the loving and father figure dad.
Speaker 17 (25:27):
I'm going to make sure I make a section of
the scrapbook for her where it's just all his hairstyles.
Speaker 5 (25:32):
Oh, awesome.
Speaker 8 (25:33):
I'll have to dig through the archives, Jai, and actually
add some photos of that scrapbook.
Speaker 5 (25:38):
No.
Speaker 12 (25:38):
No.
Speaker 5 (25:38):
No, you don't.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
All of a sudden.
Speaker 7 (25:45):
Were you with Jai at that stage in his life, Marina,
with the cane-toed head, the celebration after the Queensland game?
Speaker 5 (25:50):
No, thank God. No. No.
Speaker 4 (25:53):
Did you know about it?
Speaker 5 (25:56):
No.
Speaker 12 (25:57):
No.
Speaker 6 (25:57):
She may not be here.
Speaker 14 (25:58):
She did.
Speaker 8 (25:59):
That's what I was wondering when you told your parents
this is his name and they looked him up.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
First photo, he's giant and ketone-ed.
Speaker 5 (26:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (26:13):
Can I ask you guys, because your journey has been
so public and you've been incredibly generous to everyone to
share all of this with us. But I guess moving
forward when you're coming to an illness like you have,
it's going to be the moments that you create. What
(26:34):
are you going to now do next? What's your one-year
plan and your five-year plan and the moments you want?
Speaker 5 (26:40):
That's a really good question. For me, it's training.
Speaker 12 (26:45):
All I want to do is make sure that I'm
around and I'm doing all the right things to my
personal model.
Speaker 18 (26:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (27:00):
I know.
Speaker 17 (27:01):
if anyone listening maybe is going through the same thing
and not, but, you know, the next year for us
really just being prepared, having, not planning for the worst,
but hoping for the best, but just making sure that
we do have all of our ducks in a row
so that the next five years we can actually enjoy
together as a family, make memories, really.
Speaker 5 (27:23):
And always show me. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
I have absolutely no doubt about that.
Speaker 12 (27:30):
I am a cockroach you are a cockroach you're a
cockroach you're playing for the cane toes but you're a.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
Cockroach when it comes to getting rid of you i
love it.
Speaker 7 (27:43):
I love it what are the options for treatment because
you know what we hear about mnd is you know
that there's nothing and but obviously there are things that
you're able to do yeah.
Speaker 17 (27:52):
Yeah when we say treatment Obviously, there's no cure. And
anything and everything we try is more to prolong his
journey with it. So the progression of it, slow the
progression down. So things from, you know, the drugs, the
medications that he's on to sort of anything alternative. When
we go overseas next month for our wedding, we're going
(28:13):
to go to Cyprus for two weeks to go to
Sozo Clinic. They're a neuromodulation facility. It's really just about
prolonging his journey as much as possible.
Speaker 5 (28:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 17 (28:24):
But sadly, there's no magic pill.
Speaker 7 (28:29):
Talk about putting this disease under a spotlight. There's no
one in Australia that doesn't know about it anymore. And
I reckon there was plenty of people that sort of
heard the letters and thought, what is it? I've heard
something about it. But the word is out that we
need to do something about it.
Speaker 5 (28:43):
It's crazy.
Speaker 12 (28:44):
A lot of people knew nothing about it. And now
everyone's starting to Long amount is to essentially funiculate. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (28:59):
That's what we're all here for.
Speaker 17 (29:01):
We've had a lot of people reach out to say, hey,
this person I know passed away from MND and this
person I know has MND and this person and that person.
And it's so crazy because I didn't even really know
what it was.
Speaker 4 (29:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
But I will also say, like, I've got a very
dear friend, Joe Boone, who's had it for years.
Speaker 5 (29:20):
Right.
Speaker 2 (29:20):
She comes to every single event we do.
Speaker 12 (29:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (29:24):
Right.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
So, I mean, and I think belligerence is actually a
medical treatment.
Speaker 5 (29:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
You know, staying positive. But we've just crossed over something
very important. You said the word wedding.
Speaker 5 (29:34):
Yes. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (29:35):
I thought you guys.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
Were already married.
Speaker 5 (29:37):
We are.
Speaker 6 (29:38):
We are.
Speaker 10 (29:40):
Is that here?
Speaker 3 (29:40):
And then you're doing your dream wedding over.
Speaker 12 (29:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (29:44):
With her family. Oh, nice. They're in Canada.
Speaker 17 (29:48):
So we're doing our wedding in Italy.
Speaker 12 (29:50):
Oh, cool.
Speaker 17 (29:51):
So we thought it was fair for both families to
travel to one spot.
Speaker 5 (29:55):
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 17 (29:56):
And that's where we got engaged.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
Yeah, you got engaged over there, I thought.
Speaker 5 (29:59):
Yeah. Oh, there we go.
Speaker 17 (30:00):
We were always going to do the legal ceremony here,
but we sort of pushed it forward while Jai's still.
Speaker 5 (30:05):
Wow. She made me.
Speaker 6 (30:08):
I made him.
Speaker 5 (30:08):
She dragged me down to the altar. She dragged you down.
Speaker 8 (30:13):
At least when you got down on one knee over there,
you were sober.
Speaker 11 (30:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
Because the other times I've seen it in me.
Speaker 5 (30:19):
Oh, no.
Speaker 6 (30:20):
You could have walked.
Speaker 3 (30:21):
Look, I'm just saying, that's just a little bit of
the history, you know.
Speaker 6 (30:26):
I'll get you home, Giza.
Speaker 3 (30:27):
It's all right, bud.
Speaker 5 (30:28):
Come on.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
I'll carry you home, mate.
Speaker 4 (30:30):
It's all good.
Speaker 5 (30:31):
Giza, no.
Speaker 7 (30:33):
It looks like Frankenstein motions he's making there at the moment. Yeah,
so normally when you're taking a knee, it's because you
just need a little light.
Speaker 5 (30:39):
There, is it?
Speaker 6 (30:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (30:42):
Marina, did you know about any of this?
Speaker 5 (30:44):
No.
Speaker 12 (30:45):
No.
Speaker 8 (30:45):
Maybe that's why we're not allowed to meet maybe ever.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
Is that right, John?
Speaker 12 (30:51):
No, please. Are there things.
Speaker 7 (30:58):
That you've had to cut out, like, as far as
part of the treatment and things like that? Like, can
you have alcohol, the things that you can't do and
have to stay away from?
Speaker 5 (31:08):
It's not ideal. Right.
Speaker 4 (31:11):
It's not ideal.
Speaker 5 (31:12):
But I am having one here today.
Speaker 12 (31:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (31:16):
And drinking, I'll never, ever give up. LAUGHTER No chance.
Speaker 4 (31:25):
No chance. I mean, you're going to Italy. What are
you going to do? Your brother's got to have a wife.
Speaker 5 (31:30):
Yeah, 100%.
Speaker 6 (31:33):
Yeah, you're right.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
This is going to be a strange question, but, I mean,
I had a husband who had terminal cancer, so I
feel like I can ask it. Out of all the
terrible things that comes with a disease like this, what
has been one of the great moments? Because incredible things
do come out of terrible tragedy. And we don't focus
on that. But it can be life-changing in the best
(31:59):
possible way.
Speaker 5 (32:00):
In what way? No.
Speaker 6 (32:04):
Just a little bit.
Speaker 7 (32:07):
A little bit of M & T humour.
Speaker 5 (32:10):
I love it, yeah.
Speaker 12 (32:12):
I think for me at the moment and what we
are doing, is the amount of help towards.
Speaker 17 (32:25):
Yeah, I think it's taken us on a different path
in life as well, naturally, trying to advocate for those
who have the disease, those who are sort of going
through a similar thing, and hopefully create something of our
(32:47):
own where we can help. kind of give back to
families and research and all that stuff because we're quite
passionate about it.
Speaker 12 (32:52):
Yeah, and we're in the position to do that.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
So you're changing lives.
Speaker 5 (32:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (32:59):
That's massive. And this is the other thing I wanted
to ask you about being at South. You know, are
you thankful that you're there? Because I feel like that club,
I've always seen them get behind people you know, when
they're going through a bit of a tough thing and
even when they're teammates or staff. I just feel like
that club, and maybe Wayne has been a big part
(33:22):
of that, but are you just so thankful you've had them,
that team around you, and being at that club has
probably made it so much better?
Speaker 5 (33:31):
Yeah, I am, mate.
Speaker 12 (33:33):
I think what they're doing and have done for me
and my.
Speaker 5 (33:39):
Family, they've gone above and beyond.
Speaker 7 (33:43):
One of the other things that I think has been
amazing throughout the last few months, you know, July, July,
remember with the Tri celebration, the arrow, the arrow, and
just not just rugby, like across rugby league, but then
it went into surfing.
Speaker 4 (33:57):
It was overseas, man.
Speaker 3 (33:58):
Everywhere.
Speaker 8 (34:00):
And that's what I can't, like, it has gone, you know,
incredibly far.
Speaker 3 (34:04):
Like, you know, you see Neil Denneher.
Speaker 8 (34:07):
Um, from, from AFL for 10 years or, you know,
raised over a hundred and something million dollars.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
People didn't know that.
Speaker 5 (34:12):
Yes.
Speaker 3 (34:12):
But I feel, and mate, look, I haven't given you
a bit of slack.
Speaker 5 (34:17):
I'm glad they do now. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (34:18):
And, and that's exactly right. But I think it's because
of the person you are.
Speaker 5 (34:22):
Um, You're a legend. You're a champion. You're a bloke.
Speaker 3 (34:26):
You know, yeah, you're always there for people, mate.
Speaker 5 (34:30):
You hear me?
Speaker 3 (34:33):
Look, as much as a pest.
Speaker 7 (34:36):
For those that can't see what's happening in the other studio,
Jai's pointing to.
Speaker 4 (34:39):
Barina going, listen to this. Listen to this. Listen to
how good I am.
Speaker 3 (34:43):
But it's true.
Speaker 8 (34:44):
Like, because Kip even said to me one day that
he didn't think that you remembered who he was. And
one day that Kip said he was walking down the
airport and you yelled out, hey, Kip, how you going, mate?
Speaker 12 (34:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (34:53):
I said to him, I said, that's Jai.
Speaker 8 (34:55):
I'm like, he respects everybody and as much of a
pain in the arse and a larrikin as you.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
Are, you're a champion bloke, mate.
Speaker 8 (35:02):
And I think that has rubbed off on a lot
of people and you can see that with how far
this has gone.
Speaker 5 (35:08):
I appreciate it, mate.
Speaker 2 (35:11):
Well, good luck.
Speaker 6 (35:12):
Yeah, good luck.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
You guys have been so generous with all of your
time to the whole of Australia.
Speaker 5 (35:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
I hope you get to have those really special moments
just for you and your family.
Speaker 5 (35:23):
We will. Thank you so much. Thanks. Good to see you.
Speaker 3 (35:28):
Good to talk to you.
Speaker 6 (35:31):
My good to see you.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
Now, you know how a couple of weeks ago, and
I rave about this all the time because I think
one of the coolest services that the Brisbane City Council
ever offers us is is the rat dog.
Speaker 7 (35:43):
I can't believe this is, like, it's 2026. This seems
like something that might have happened in England before the
first fleet.
Speaker 1 (35:50):
I'm sure that's true too.
Speaker 6 (35:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
But we have a lot of rats in Brisbane. And
when I lived at Fig Tree Pocket and I bought
my house, we moved in and within six months we
had an infestation of rats in the house. And I
rang the council just for advice and they said, oh,
we'll send out the rat dog.
Speaker 4 (36:09):
It's a thing.
Speaker 3 (36:10):
I don't get it.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
It took out nine rats within my house. And since
then I've been raving about it. So I just thought
I'd get our Lord Mayor up, Shrindog, because he likes us,
and see if he'll let us go and see the
rat dog in action.
Speaker 5 (36:28):
Hello, Shrindog.
Speaker 4 (36:28):
Shrindog.
Speaker 6 (36:30):
Good morning.
Speaker 5 (36:31):
Hey, mate.
Speaker 7 (36:32):
Now, when you saw, just we should say as well,
for those that aren't aware, Shrindog was your pilot name
when you were in the Air Force.
Speaker 4 (36:39):
How was it at Riverfire.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
When you were watching those planes go over? Did you
want to be up there?
Speaker 6 (36:45):
Oh, loved it.
Speaker 7 (36:47):
I know I'm not the only one, but, yeah, it's
my favourite part of River Fire.
Speaker 19 (36:51):
The fireworks are great, but the flyover is even better.
Speaker 8 (36:55):
Do you lose your touch when you haven't been flying
for a while, or do you reckon you could just
jump straight.
Speaker 3 (36:59):
Back in there and do it? For me, it's been
a long, long time. Technology change, maybe?
Speaker 5 (37:06):
Okay, hang on.
Speaker 4 (37:07):
Let's just go.
Speaker 7 (37:08):
Remember the movie Independence Day where they had to bring
back the old pilots?
Speaker 5 (37:12):
Yes.
Speaker 7 (37:13):
If it came to it and we needed you to
fight the aliens, could you do it?
Speaker 19 (37:19):
In a two-seater propeller plane.
Speaker 4 (37:23):
You could be the crazy guy.
Speaker 7 (37:25):
You could be the crazy kamikaze guy at the end.
Speaker 5 (37:30):
We'll take it.
Speaker 6 (37:30):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (37:31):
So have you seen the rat dogs in action?
Speaker 12 (37:33):
No.
Speaker 4 (37:35):
Oh, they are the cutest.
Speaker 8 (37:36):
We've got two of them, Molly and Rosie, and they
are absolutely adorable.
Speaker 5 (37:42):
What are they?
Speaker 11 (37:44):
Fox Terriers, and they're both around four years old, and
they've been on the job for a long time.
Speaker 7 (37:50):
And, you know, we've had a history, I think, that
goes back.
Speaker 3 (37:54):
Over 100 years of this in the council.
Speaker 4 (37:56):
Wow.
Speaker 19 (37:57):
Yeah, it's just one of the things.
Speaker 11 (37:59):
Now, I can tell you, I'm a little bit nervous.
Speaker 5 (38:02):
I had....
Speaker 19 (38:05):
I had Molly in my office trying to sniff out
whether there.
Speaker 3 (38:08):
Were any rats.
Speaker 5 (38:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 19 (38:10):
And no rats in City Hall.
Speaker 5 (38:13):
Well, that seems ridiculous.
Speaker 4 (38:14):
That's insane.
Speaker 5 (38:16):
I object.
Speaker 4 (38:17):
Well, certainly not in my office anyway.
Speaker 5 (38:20):
This is good.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
And it's her definition of a rat, really.
Speaker 1 (38:22):
Yeah, that's true, yes.
Speaker 4 (38:24):
But we can actually see it in action.
Speaker 19 (38:27):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 5 (38:29):
How cool.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
So we've organised that we're going to take, I'm not
sure which of the rat dogs, but we're going to
go to the botanical gardens because that's the most likely.
Speaker 19 (38:38):
I think you'll find a few down there.
Speaker 5 (38:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (38:40):
How exciting. So we can go and see them.
Speaker 2 (38:43):
It is quite extraordinary how efficient they are. So thank you,
Lord Mayor. We really appreciate it.
Speaker 19 (38:49):
Oh, you'll enjoy yourself.
Speaker 17 (38:51):
And look, we can even attach a little.
Speaker 19 (38:52):
GoPro camera onto Molly and Rosie.
Speaker 5 (38:55):
So that you can see it from their perspective. Love it.
Speaker 4 (38:57):
We're doing it. Thanks, mate.
Speaker 12 (38:59):
Thank you.
Speaker 16 (38:59):
Let's do it.
Speaker 6 (39:00):
Rob and Kip and Corey Oates. In the morning.
