She's on the Money.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
She's on the Money. Hello, friends, and welcome to She's
on the Money, the podcast that makes personal finance is fun,
especially on a Friday. You, my friend, are here just
in time for Friday drinks, that time of the week
where we get together to celebrate our She's on the
Money Community. I'm Victoria Devine and joining me today is
none other than beksay Ed, who is coming in hot

(01:08):
with the broke tips, and Miss Jessica Ricci, who is
as always here with this week's money wins, and my friends.
As always, we are going to be answering your money
dilemmas and your dms, and this week's picks are all
about investment, specifically whether you should continue investing time at
a job that you literally hate for long term financial

(01:29):
gains and where to invest when you've inherited a hefty portfolio. Oh,
I think will be very interesting if you have an
intriguing money dilemma, we would always love to hear it.
We just want the tea like, ask me, what are
you going to do about your boyfriend who's cheating on
you but you have a house together. I want to
know you know. I want the juicy goss, like, if

(01:51):
you've got anything that's related to money, I'll take it.
If you've got any other goss, I will also take it.
So please head on over to the podcast page on
She's on the Money and leave us a message. We
listen to every single one of them, and some of
them end up right here on the podcast. Now, it's
been a while, so you're gonna have to remind me.
Could it be I don't know time for a five
star review? It's exactly time for five star review. Cop

(02:14):
Oh my god, I just checked my watch. That's crazy,
of course, the time where we bask in the glory
of ourselves and the most flattering comments that our community
provide us. Oh my god, I'm so excited. And look,
we love to chat, but hearing all of you and
what you think of the show and what we've covered
is it just doesn't get old. I'm not gonna lie.
So if you've been umming and a ring about leaving
a review, my friend, this is your sign. I'm all

(02:37):
about signed. So this is your sign. You can share
them with us on Apple, podcasts, on Spotify, on socials,
on dms. We are really not very picky. All we
want to do is bask in the glory of your
most flattering comments. So this one it comes from Lichelle,
and you know what she says, six star review. Okay,
pop off, Queen. That is a great start, she says,

(02:59):
She's on the money. Has genuinely changed my life. I'm
only twenty two, but I've been binging the podcast since
I started listing at the start of twenty twenty five.
I used to think my money habits were in A
plus and then I realized that maybe they're more of
a B mins And now I reckon I've brought it
back up to a B plus. Oh, I'm determined to
get my A status back. She's on the money has

(03:22):
accompanied me basically everywhere I drive. They are my friends
and they are my mentors. I've started investing with Chais's
in October and I'm almost at my three thousand dollar milestone.
Sometimes when I'm scared I'm not doing enough for I'm
doing the wrong things, I remind myself that I've started
earlier than if I let analysis paralysis get in my way,
and that I am building up my future regardless. I

(03:45):
know future me is going to thank me. I want
to thank you all as well. I wouldn't have done
any of this without you. And then she did three
of those love hearts that we used to do on
MSN back in the day, with the like greater than
sign and the number three queen. Yeah, my goodness, that's amazing.
You have a very bright financial future. Absolutely, I wish

(04:06):
I was like that. I know we are so proud
of you. And you are well on your way, my queen,
and congrats on beating analysis paralysis because we don't know
her here noa yeah, big snaps. Now, my friends, I
have been away for a little while. It's just been
the two of you, but I am back. But I
want to be in the No. What have our community
been asking about?

Speaker 4 (04:25):
My favorite one was we were asked if the top
or the bottom of the pizza was the cruss part?
What so if you were going to take a bike,
if I said take a bike from the top of
the piece of pizza, will you take a bike from
the crust or from the point of it?

Speaker 3 (04:35):
Yes, the top of the what? Which? Where do we
land on this? We agree? We read the crust was
the top, the crust is the handle?

Speaker 4 (04:43):
Yeah, well, and the handles are the top. I'm sure
we had this conversation. Do you know what?

Speaker 3 (04:49):
No, I can't remember. We landed on flip it around? Yeah, crust,
I don't know crust, you know what I reckon. The
way I'm solving this is, if you were to be
given a piece of paper and you were to draw
a piece of pizza, would the crusty at the top
or would you draw the crust to the bottom at
the top. Ye okay, it's the top, yeah, okay, questionably.

(05:10):
And then you hold up the paper and the piece
of like the crust is drawn at the top, it's
the top.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
Like if I said to hold a piece of pizza
by the like, you're not picking it up by the tip.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
Top. But you don't pick everything up by the top.
Like if you were to pick up a lamp, would
you pick it up by the top of the lamp? No,
you'd pick up the bottom. I see the logic, but
I'm staunch in my belief. Yeah, the top. Well, you
know what, I'm not going to ask about the other
questions because I feel like we would talk about them
for the rest of the episode. And I'm sad I
missed those kind of but hopefully this week's question will

(05:43):
make up the fact that I missed a few. This
one comes from Arnie, who asks the Suddenly thirty movie
reboot is officially in development. What would your thirteen year
old self expect to see if she woke up as
you today? This is a bad time, say I haven't
seen Suddenly. It's when a thirteen year old get this,
wakes up and just suddenly thirty, got it. Yeah, so

(06:06):
you were thirteen and then you blinked and woke up
as Jessie today. I'm pretty sure.

Speaker 4 (06:12):
At the time, I was like, by thirty, I'll have
a big house and a husband and two kids, because like,
obviously I'm gonna have my first kid at like twenty four,
and then if I have my next kid by like
twenty six and by thirty, yeah, wow, crazy logic, I know.
And my logic was this, keep those children away from me,
like I love them, I love the children. Give me

(06:33):
the children as long as she.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
Wants my kid, but she wants to give it back. Yes,
oh my god, I did. And she's an angel with
my children. But she's just a lot of kids. Yeah,
I will not be spawning after me. No, no, absolutely,
are you happy about that? I don't feel any type
of way about like I think.

Speaker 4 (06:48):
I just I had a very idealized version of what
being an adult was and like how expensive it was
to be an adult and how much responsibility you have
it here mean, I was like, when I'm an adult,
I'm going to drive my own car and we're really cool.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
Yes, and nobody's going to tell me what to do.
And now I'm like, now you have adult money and
you've got to spend it like an adult. Like that
is not the concept of adult money.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
I don't know where my wife's got crossed, but this
is not what I signed up for. Confused adult money
with free will? Yeah, yeah, and those two things were different.
We were going to be eating fruit loops for breakfast
every day.

Speaker 4 (07:23):
Literally. I was like, I'm going to live off McDonald
It's like, yeah, my mom's not going to tell me
what to do when I grow up, and now I
call him like, Mom.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
What do I do? Help? Yeah, it's all so funny.

Speaker 5 (07:35):
Like I feel like if we were told our whole
lives that we have to or we should be owning
a horse by the time we're fifty, then we will
be like, oh, by this stage, I thought own a horse.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
It's like you're just like doing what you want to
do at all times, and I think it's amazing. Also,
that's so Australian, like not a horse. We are in kangaroos. Obviously, No,
we want to own property because it's great Australian dream.
But if you went overseas would be like, what's your plan?
Not many other countries would be like, oh, well, I'll
own a home, like it's just not part of the

(08:07):
kids a family. They'd probably be like, oh, I'd rant
in a beautiful location. Like we've just been fed this narrative,
and that narrative somehow becomes our expectations. I know, I
have a very different answer. I didn't even clock that,
or I just I knew that.

Speaker 5 (08:20):
Like if I was thirteen one second ago and just
woke up now, I would be stoked as hell to
be like, first of all, I'm on this.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
Podcast with you guys. Also you're really hot.

Speaker 5 (08:31):
Not to big note myself, but I remember like really
not liking the way my lips were when I smiled
back when I was like when I was like a teenager,
and I like would love to know that it evened
itself out, like you know, like it really pointed down.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
I don't know how to explain it, but I don't
know how to explain it, but you've got phenomenal lips.
Oh thank you. I would just be stoked as hell.

Speaker 5 (08:51):
And I really wanted that life of like not sitcom,
but like where like you know, friends are everywhere and
like I don't know, I just like I would.

Speaker 3 (08:57):
Be stoked basically as my you know what you do
like as much as you're like, oh I wish I
was better at this or that, Like you have such
a wholesome life of like all your friends like and
you prioritize them and like you just live life doing
the things that make you happy. Thank you. She'd be proud.
I think she'd be pretty happy, Like, Okay, what about you?
Why not a doctor? Thirteen year old me would be

(09:21):
like we did what?

Speaker 6 (09:24):
Why?

Speaker 3 (09:25):
Like public speaking at thirteen terrifying. I know that I've
said on the podcast before that I used to be
like the debating team captain, like girl stuff. I did
that because I was so nervous to speak in front
of groups. And my dad when he was growing up,
he actually had a stutter. And one of the things
he did to help that he did like toastmasters and

(09:46):
public speaking and stuff. So he always was like Victoria, like,
to get some more confidence, you should go and do like,
you know, put yourself out of your comfort zone. Debating
would be a really good way of doing that. You know,
the public speaking like group at all, the club at school,
that would be a really good thing for you. And
so I always kind of like followed that, but not
because I enjoyed it, but because I thought I had
to because like, you know, that was good for my development.

(10:09):
What do you mean it's my career, dad, What have
you done? You a whole new path? Yeah, and I
agree with you, Jess. I think I had this very
stereotypical idea that i'd wake up, like I think I'd
be confused about why I have babies right now, Like
not because I didn't want kids, but why are they're
not in school? Yeah, Like in my head, I was
meant to have kids when I was like much younger.

(10:30):
So like if I woke up, you know, in suddenly
thirty and I was today years old, which is nearly
thirty five aged exactly. She told me, I think we
were on a zoom and we were crazy about you know,
I'm going to throw Kiara under the bus to the

(10:52):
community that loves her, because Kiara is our community manager
and she is an angel, Like she reads every single
DM and makes that you get the resource that you
need right, Like she spent so long even in our
group chats on she's on the money being like, oh hey,
I just got this damn from someone and like I've
sent them this and this, but like, what else could
I provide them with? She's an icon. She cares about

(11:14):
us so much, and then she did us dirty, so dirty.
She's like, oh yeah, like the demographics of she's on
the money. Oh between I think it was like we
were talking about the demographic of between the ages of
twenty five and thirty five. She's like, yeah, like thirty
five middle aged and I was like, excu wooose me.
You're gonna go jump in front of a car. It

(11:35):
was like, and did you see the way I jumped down?
I was like, care, take that back. The girl doubled down.
She was like, no, no year old?

Speaker 4 (11:43):
Oh god.

Speaker 3 (11:44):
And you know what she said to me the other day.
She goes, hey, Victoria, she was feeling in a form
for me and needed my driver's license and like my age,
and she goes, did you know you're like a full
decade older than me? And I was like, oh, why
are you pointing this out? And she goes, because it's
really funny. In ten years, Kia is going to be like, Wow,

(12:05):
this is not middle aged. I can't wait to come
for you Kiara in ten years and be like, how's
being middle aged feel?

Speaker 2 (12:11):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (12:12):
Except from my deathbat. Anyway, I think thirteen year old
me would be confused, but I also think she'd be
insanely proud, Like how cool would it be? Like you
just explained how proud thirteen year old you would be.
If we could go back and be like, hey, thirteen
year old me, stop being so self conscious, Like every
thirteen year old is deeply self conscious, and I don't know,

(12:34):
go back and like pat baby jess and be like
it's going to be all good. Yeah, maybe true, you're
like really sick once you get to thirty. Yeah, you're
actually like real cool.

Speaker 4 (12:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
Some dudes stopped you in the supermarket the other day
and said, are you Jessica from She's on the Money? Incredible?
All right, Well, I think that was a little bit
of a throwback. If you guys have a question for us,
please send it through. And it definitely doesn't have to
be finance related either, as you've just heard. It literally
be about one of your favorite rom com movies and franchises.
We don't care. We're taking all questions now, Miss Jessicgriuchi.

(13:08):
How are they Has the community had any spectacular money
wins this week?

Speaker 4 (13:12):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (13:12):
They always do.

Speaker 4 (13:13):
Firstly, this week Kayla said, I've secured a permanent role
within the team. I've been working for the last two
years on a casual fixed CHAM contract, so I now
get extra super and great leave benefits money weird.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
Steph said she just brought.

Speaker 4 (13:26):
Her first home congratulations, and she found six pavers at
I'm pretty sure that the Bunning's handwriting.

Speaker 3 (13:32):
She said.

Speaker 4 (13:33):
They're perfect for stepping zones.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
The Bunnings handwriting, Jess really do be thirty Literally, giant
pavers do go in your ground? Oh yeah, that is
the Bunnings handwriting. Hell yeah, that is fifty cents a paver.

Speaker 4 (13:46):
So she paid a grand total of three dollars to
pay her path in her front hour.

Speaker 3 (13:49):
That's really cute. How it is that money win?

Speaker 4 (13:53):
Jackie said she went to see a new horror movie
called Obsession for a dollar thanks to muber one.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
Really want to see that? Oh see a dollar to
not go?

Speaker 4 (14:01):
Literally? I don't say me up. Really, I have not
watched a horror movie since I was in high school.

Speaker 3 (14:05):
But it's like eerie.

Speaker 4 (14:07):
Nah, that's worse.

Speaker 3 (14:08):
I don't want to be scared at all. I'm the
same as Jes. So do you not like watching movies
that carry suspense, which is okay, kind of funny because
I love true crime, but like, I know that that
crime has already happened and done and passed, and we're
just talking about something that happened. You're not like trying
to make me suspenseful the second you put me in
a situation of suspense, Like, I'm still traumatized from the
time and don't ask how this happened. I used to

(14:31):
have a friend. Her name was Emily, and she loved horror.
I knew that about her. And she was like, do
you want to go to the movies one day? And
I was like, would love to go to the movies.
That would be fantastic, And she's like, I want to
see The Conjuring. Oh no, And I was like, great,
sounds good. At that point in time, I didn't know
what conjuring was as a word. I didn't know that

(14:53):
that was a very very bad horror movie, very scary.
I get to the cinemas, I'm excited. I've got my
pop and I've put my mald teesers in the popcorn.
I was there to have a good time. I'm still traumatized.

Speaker 4 (15:05):
Yeah, to this day, I won't be doing that, But
I wonder the movie ticket sounds very good. Thank you
for the heads up, Jackie. Then Kylie said, I got
an email that said I overpaid my loan and they're
refunding me a grand total of sixteen cents.

Speaker 3 (15:17):
You know what, I'll take it. Oh, it need a win.
So what I'm hearing is the loan's paid off. Queen, Yes,
snaps for you.

Speaker 4 (15:24):
Shelby said, my friend from work is we a kitchen
renovation and she's giving me all of the stuff from
her kitchen so that she can buy new stuff. So
she's gotten quite a lot of kitchen set up out
of it, and she was looking at buying it. Anyway's money,
we genuine money, we really good money in And then
lastly this week, Jasmine said she went mini golfing and
saw online that there was a family entry price. When

(15:45):
they arrived, they tried to charge her family individual ticket prices,
so she asked about the family ticket, which they then
gave her, which saved her twenty eight dollars.

Speaker 3 (15:54):
Why of it all, you can't assume that they'll tell
you the best deal.

Speaker 4 (15:59):
You've got to know what the best deal is.

Speaker 3 (16:00):
Yes, so true, which is dog as hell and the
best deal is usually just on the mac is app,
not sponsored, but like, I just order through the MACS app. Now,
I used to think it was really annoying when you
got to the check That was how I feel. Yeah,
when you got to like the drive through and they
go are you using my MACS app today? And you
go no, And then you're like, can I just auder
in my chicken? Yeah? Jess, the deals sorry, I'm not

(16:25):
going to give them any more airtime on this podcast.
Call me McDonald's. We can do some deals. Yeah, but
as a fan of your app, Okay, you've really convinced me.
Because I was the same. I was like, it's no way. Sorry.
I think it was like seventeen ninety five. The other day,
my sister and I go through drive three. She's the
one that convoided me. She was like, vitera, you've got
to get on this. And like, if my sister says something,
she's like the cooler version of me. Like I still

(16:48):
said I should do it. Seventeen dollars, large chips, large coke,
three burgers, what oh wow, I don't know why. I
don't know why, but we'll take it. And then we
shared our chips and our cocaine had one point fives each. Anyway,
moving on from that, that is literally so good, Miss

(17:09):
Beck sayeed, Yes, some of our broke tips are the
catalyst for good money wins. And with that said, it
is time for you to share your best broke tips
of the week, of course.

Speaker 5 (17:19):
So this first one comes from Okay, yes, I see
what you mean now about these nickname things. So this
one comes from enthusiastic arugular eight six' five two gorgeous. Name,
Nah i've Been i'm.

Speaker 4 (17:32):
SORRY i know HOW i feel about.

Speaker 3 (17:34):
THIS i don't like it at. ALL i, know but
maybe that is their name for Those it is absolutely.
Not it is absolutely. Not but also WHY i don't?
Know and like are they made?

Speaker 4 (17:46):
UP i, wonder like does get automatically generates? Them that's
why they all kind of follow the same like. Convention
there's usually like a fruit or vegetable or an. Animal,
yeah and like a verb Arenown.

Speaker 3 (17:57):
And, also just to be very clear with our, COMMUNITY
i banned anonymous posts in Our facebook group and a
lot of people were, like, well that's not, Fair, like you,
Know i've got friends or family in The facebook group
AND i don't want to share with. Them, OKAY i
fully get, that but more often than, not when it
came to anonymous comments and anonymous, questions they were anonymous

(18:18):
because they were incredibly, specific and you were, like, WELL
i don't want to put my name to. It but
if that's the question and it is too, specific that
then borders on us giving financial advice and breaching our
financial services. License but then on the other flip, SIDE
i have built this CAN i am very staunch about,
this and JUST i know you are. Too we have
built this community as a. Community we support each. Other

(18:43):
we do not do that. Anonymously, like if you've got
something to say in our, community say it with your full.
Chest if you're going to congratulate somebody on their money
in or their, confession say it with your. Name that is.
Incredible if you need to use an anonymous, profile why?
Yeah is it because you're saying something not so? Kind
And i'm seeing so many unkind comments pop. Up now

(19:05):
that you guys can control the narrative of being, Anonymous
i'm just a deleting. Queen i'll delete you fairly, Stuff
i'll block. Stuff, also as the admin of this, GROUP
i can SEE i can oh, yeah, oh just to
be very. Clear like if you think going anonymous means
it hides from, everyone it does except for the admins

(19:26):
of that. Group, wow, OKAY i see. YOU i see.
That that's not very. KIND i just blocked and deleted
you from our. Community that sounds really. Harsh but you're not.
Kind you're not. Welcome, sorry fair, enough absolutely, sorry sorry bye.
Anyway broke tip from an Anonymous arugula.

Speaker 5 (19:43):
ANONYMOUS a, regular so ANONYMOUS i regular, Says i've been
using my credits At coles And woolies for the free.
COOKWARE i don't need the, cookware so Instead i've been
enlisting them On. Marketplace i've done this three, times and
each Time i've had over ten people contact me within
an hour sold three pins and fry pan at thirty dollars.
EACH i don't know you could do. That you can
use credits At coals And woolies for free cookwear money,

(20:06):
win which is also great if you just like are
literally like me and haven't purchased a new fry pan
a long, time, like the cookwear will come in very.

Speaker 3 (20:14):
Handy THAT'S i think five pans. Amits i'm gonna.

Speaker 4 (20:18):
PODCASTS i.

Speaker 3 (20:18):
Can't we can talk about this offt line because my
current non stick fry pans are very. Stick yes and.
Gone i've seen my fry. Pants i'm not going to
say the branch because they'll be pretty annoyed at. ME
i paid full price for, them but, like, No i'm
not going to throw them under a. Bus but they
are very expensive. HANDS i keep buying pants and they
keep not. PANTING i, Know I'M i don't understand the.

(20:41):
Best i've used all of. THEM i use the ones
where you have to season. Them you can't wash. Them
it's a whole.

Speaker 5 (20:45):
Thing but the best fry pans are the seven dollar
ones From kmart and they always will be and they
always have.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
Been, really they are so. Good i'm gonna have to
become a convert Because i'm able to dry fry pan
through my back window right, now trust. Me and you
can't even go. Wrong you, know some of, Them you've
got to heat them up to a certain. Level you
gotta make sure That i've bought the expensive ceramic non
stick ones BECAUSE i was trying to be. Healthy why you? Stick?
Yeah why DID i use half a cup of? Oil

(21:10):
you still? Stick there's my question of the.

Speaker 4 (21:12):
Week if you've owned your fry pants for at least a,
year BECAUSE i feel like they have a period where
they're good and then they just go to.

Speaker 3 (21:18):
Happen, no, queen that's. EXPENSIVE i do not want to
be buying them every. Year if you've had your fry
pans for at least three, years they're still, good you
really rate. Them slide into OUR.

Speaker 4 (21:25):
Dms, yeah pop it in The spotify comments, please BECAUSE
i need a recommendation.

Speaker 3 (21:28):
Anyway the chase the came on ones are telling YOU
i might try the freebies for. Goals that's. True if it's,
free does it matter if it becomes nonstick?

Speaker 5 (21:36):
Totally the sex one comes From kelly who, says just
a reminder that you can convert Your telstra points to
woolas gift. Cards did mine this week and got one
hundred and seventy dollars in gift cards for our.

Speaker 3 (21:46):
GROCERIES i did not.

Speaker 4 (21:48):
Know, yes that's so.

Speaker 5 (21:49):
GOOD i don't even know What telstra points, are But
i'm assuming if you have a telstraphone or A Telstra
internet when you know what they, are and so hopefully
that's helpful for you.

Speaker 3 (21:58):
Exactly and what's your broke?

Speaker 5 (21:59):
Tip my, friend there is this couple that went to
a public library to book their, flights and they, said
it's like it works out. Cheaper and then someone stitched
that video and, said, HEY i tried, it it, works
so it must.

Speaker 3 (22:11):
Be somebody like THE i, know you know when you
like log in and you like try, yes and so like.

Speaker 5 (22:17):
When you like try and find flights on your own
laptop and then you go back to try and find them,
again they're like more.

Speaker 3 (22:21):
Expensive but if you go.

Speaker 5 (22:22):
To a public, library apparently it's just LIKE i don't
know if it's like the cheapest you can, find but
it's like very very, cheap or it's like at least
very reasonably.

Speaker 3 (22:29):
Priced so definitely try. That if you're not having luck
on your own, laptop go to a public library and do.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
IT i love.

Speaker 3 (22:35):
IT i literally only use LIKE i only book flights
in incognito mode on my life. Totally, anyway that's pretty,
Exciting AND i just don't know how you discovered, That
like how someone was, like, oh the flights are expensive at,
Home i'm gonna go see they're cheaper at the. LIBRARY i, know.
Totally i'm sure that would have been an. Accident and
sometimes we do find the best broke tips by. Accident

(22:56):
after the, break we will be discussing a money dilemma about,
shares specifically shares that have landed writing your, lap so
guys don't go. Anywhere welcome, back. Everybody let's take a
listen to this week's money. Dilemma, hi, there have you
got a money dilemma you just can't. Solve The she's

(23:16):
on The money team is here to.

Speaker 6 (23:17):
Help every week we tackle your, dilemmas both big and,
small to answer your most burning, money career and life.
Questions to get, involved simply head to our website and
leave us a short voice recording and you might just
find yourself on the. Show, now let's take a listen
to this week's money. Dilemma, Hi she's on The.

Speaker 2 (23:36):
Money i've got a question regarding. SHARES i was gifted
some shares WHEN i turned, eighteen WHICH i thought were.
ETFs that turns out that they are ric's or listed
investment company shares In. Argo the condition of getting them
as a gift is THAT i can't sell, them and
they're currently seeing it about forty thousand, dollars which is pretty.

(23:58):
Good but just want to want to doferences and SHOULD
i actually be continuing to put money into this or
SHOULD i be focusing on? ETFs is there a big
difference in the Money i'm going to make thank.

Speaker 3 (24:08):
You i'm going to, SAY i don't really. Know, NO
i don't know the answer to this, one AND i
just pass that one right across to what about? BECK i,
mean if you like, IT i CAN fa do you?
INSTEAD i do, Know So i'm very happy to take
one for the. Team you know. What it is so

(24:30):
nice to still be wanted and, needed and sometimes you
guys answer the questions so well That i'm, LIKE i
Guess i'll see myself. Out so a listed investment company
versus an exchange traded fund basically boils down to a
choice between active, management which is usually focused on creating
a reliable, income and then passive management that is focused

(24:53):
on tracking the market at a low, cost which is AN.
Etf so that's an active and passive as OF i
gues this year that INVESTMENT rgo is one of you would,
Say australia's largest, LICs which actually has about eight billion
dollars in, it which is not something THAT i don't.

(25:13):
Know if you've never heard of, it you might be, like, oh,
Risky OH i don't, Know LIKE i don't know What argo.
Like it's pretty damn, big so it's not a risky.
Investment and have forty thousand dollars in, IT ah snaps for.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
You that's.

Speaker 3 (25:24):
Incredible but when it comes down TO i guess rgo
and not being able to sell. It they are a
closed end, company so unlike AN etf that you can just,
like which is open, ended you can just jump on
tracks the, market you, know sell it. Tomorrow this means
That argo has a fixed number of shares which does

(25:46):
trade on THE asx like any other, stock but the
share price can trade at a, discount so it's cheaper
or a premium which is more expensive to its tangible,
assets which is AN nta of its actual. Value so
it's different management. Style i'm interested as to why you're
not allowed to sell, it if that makes. Sense like
they've got a pretty good like active management, fee so

(26:09):
ON rg you're looking at maybe point one four, percent
whereas A etf is maybe point one zero, Percent so
like not that much of a, Difference but why can't
you sell?

Speaker 4 (26:23):
It like could it be a condition Of like if
it was an, inheritance could it be you inherit, This, well.

Speaker 3 (26:28):
Let's go with, that because it might be, like, A
i can't sell it because of, this but the tax
implications on those assets are the. Same, like you, know
if you've held that asset for more than twelve, months
you'll get YOUR cgt fifty percent discount as of right.
Now that might change in a, year but in saying,
that it's important to know that those changes won't affect
your existing. Portfolio they'll be called. Grandfathered so you might

(26:52):
have heard this term flying, around but grandfather ing basically, means, Hey,
beck if you owned this asset today and you want
to sell it, tomorrow but you change the rules, tomorrow
you still get to use the old rules because we're
not going to like pull the rug out from underneath.
You but if you want to go and purchase a
new asset next week and the rules have, changed you
have to abide by the new. Rules, yeah and you, go,

(27:14):
okay no. Worries so the rules should be the same on.
Both but if you're, saying, oh DO i keep investing
into this, asset, well that's a purely personal, question right
because it's not an issue of whether you have ETFs
or this managed. Portfolio it's more, like does it align
to your? Goals does it align to your? Values did
you want to diversify further and have more? ETFs, also

(27:37):
if you're going to keep, investing the rules might change
later down the, track but it will only change for
the assets that you purchase after that. Date so for,
me a little from COLUMN, a a little from COLUMN.
B they're both genuine assets that people invest in on
THE asx.

Speaker 4 (27:56):
Is AN L i see the same as AN etf
in that it invests in many. Things, yes it can
be SO rg. Investments they then pick a lot. More
their liquidity is, high which is Why i'm kind of
confused about her SAYING i can't sell. Them maybe it's
just because it was purchased by somebody else and it
was a gift and you obviously wouldn't sell a gift
and get rid of.

Speaker 3 (28:15):
It but, yes they are very similar in that. Aspect
it's just very active. Management like it's a listed company
and you know you get fully franked income from it
above higher capital. Growth so, wait can she just never sell?
It we don't, Know, well we don't. Know like IF,
i LIKE i could go and purchase our go, today

(28:36):
LIKE i could jump on my phone open my shares
exap and purchase SOME rgo and that would be. Good
but that's AN, lic not AN. Etf it's just a different.
Asset it's like How jess could go and buy a
direct share or AN etf should purchase it any exactly
the same. Way same with ariits so real estate investment,
trusts like you could go and buy one of those
on THE, asex or you could buy a. Bond there

(28:56):
are lots of different things that are for sale on THE.
Asex they're not all made the, same they're not all,
equal but they trade the. Same so that's Why i'm
a bit confused about her inability to dispose of that.
Asset got you got you got to sho.

Speaker 4 (29:07):
Get into THIS speachducdm, though, absolutely AND i might do
some more research on.

Speaker 3 (29:12):
Argo from a personal, Perspective i'm, like why have you got?
That SHOULD i have?

Speaker 4 (29:15):
That?

Speaker 3 (29:16):
YEAH i feel that way every time someone mentioned SOMETHING
i don't. Own, anyway we are going to look into my.
Dms every week we unpack a dilemma from OUR, dms
and this one describes being caught between a rock and
a hard. Place, hi she's on the. MONEY i have
a community. QUESTION i currently am in a really well
paying mining, job which has changed my money story and

(29:36):
helped me get out of debt and start. Investing, however
it was never meant to be a permanent, fix AS
i have a unique degree THAT i want to. Follow
my mind is closing in two, years and my original
plan was to stay until it closed and then follow
my dream. Career but LATELY i have found the site
is literally sucking the life out of. ME i find
myself mentally and physically. Drained after a week of, Work

(29:57):
i'm calling and, Sick i'm crying in the, bathrooms AND
i genuinely just dread going to. WORK i really want to.
Leave my, issue, though is IF i dip out of
my plans, Early i'm quite literally missing out on three
hundred thousand dollars plus over a two year, period not
including WHAT i get from my, investments my bank, interest my,
superannuation which in today's financial climate seems very risky and

(30:19):
scarce the living daylights out of. Me my question is
what would most people do dip out of my financial
plan early and lose that amount of money or tolerate
for the long term. Gain what would you guys?

Speaker 5 (30:30):
DO i am curious about the three hundred thousand, Dollars,
like are they taking.

Speaker 3 (30:36):
Like in salary earning one hundred and fifty grand a?

Speaker 5 (30:40):
Year okay in that case of, coursely BUT i, KNOW
i understand it feels like a huge amount of. Money
But i'm, like also with that kind of salary and
maybe with the experience you've, gained like do you have
to stay? There like can you look for a similar,
job but just like with a completely different team travels
somewhere else in austra you know WHAT i. MEAN i

(31:00):
feel like that your main priority should be to definitely look,
elsewhere BECAUSE i totally not feeling like crying in the
bathrooms you like seek to your. Stomach you don't want
to go like you don't want to like sacrifice your
mental health because it also feels like right now it's you,
Know i'll Eventually i'll be, fine but that long term negative,
effect like it doesn't just feel, like, Oh i'm just

(31:21):
gonna be anxious UNTIL i. Finish it's like that will
bleed into like every part of your life and you
might like not even realize it right, now but you'll
be maybe isolating. Yourself maybe you will come back to
feeling better one. Day and then be like where doll
my friends. Go all these things will just bleed into other.
THINGS i think that your mental health is always number, one,
Always so try and find a job that's WITHIN i,

(31:42):
guess like maybe the same, sector but just a different
team or. Something even if it's like a pay, cut
it really doesn't. Matter if it's like you're working and
there's a big bonus.

Speaker 3 (31:51):
Of three hundred thousand, dollars maybe that would change my.
Answer but if it just if it's, salary you can
find that or even something within, that even if it's ninety.

Speaker 4 (31:59):
K i'm interpreting her message. Though she said that she
could leave and she would take a pay, cut and
that pay cut would. Result so my understanding of her
message is that in taking a new, job she's sacrificing
three hundred thousand dollars of ad. Dish, yeah not she
earns one hundred and fifty grand a.

Speaker 3 (32:17):
YAR i, see that's JUST i thought that was. Good
she's better.

Speaker 4 (32:21):
Wicked well, yeah but that's just how based on what she,
said my assumption even, then, yeah.

Speaker 5 (32:28):
Even THEN i THINK i, would, YEAH i would bounce for,
sure because it's just it's, like what is. Money it's
a man made. Thing your mental health is the most.

Speaker 3 (32:35):
IMPORTANT i.

Speaker 4 (32:37):
AGREE i think that's the correct, Answer like it's the
ANSWER i. LIKE i think you've got to prioritize your mental,
health AND i agree with everything that you. Said if
you're asking WHAT i personally would, DO i Fear i'm
sticking it. Out like to be completely, HONEST i Think
i'm someone who's quite good at, compartmentalizing AND i think as,
well that's. TERRIFYING i THINK i look at it as

(32:59):
short term, pain long term, Gain LIKE i talk about
that right, Now Like i'm working two jobs And i'm
working more THAN i need to for, sure and it's
definitely stretching me out kind of quite a. Bit But
i'm going same as our, LISTENER i have an. End
i'm doing it through till when my house build is,
done And i'm going short term, paign long term. Gain
it'll have been about a year by the time it's all,

(33:20):
done and it's not been the. Easiest but at the same,
TIME i THINK i am prioritizing that.

Speaker 3 (33:28):
Goal you deeply depressed me.

Speaker 4 (33:30):
As a very Different you, KNOW i have worked jobs
WHERE i have been pretty, miserable and it would tell,
me right you, know LIKE covid or something like that
WHEN i was depressed and it WAS i, mean it's
a little bit different because it was a very different
job market and all those sorts of. Things but that's
just WHO i am as a, person AND i don't
necessarily condone. That and that's WHY i SAID i don't
think my answer is the correct. ANSWER i think like

(33:53):
in an ideal, world everyone absolutely puts their mental health.
First because you're so, bright it affects. Everything but also,
like If i'm really, honest there's not a LOT i
wouldn't do for three hundred GRAND i.

Speaker 3 (34:04):
Mean the way that that could set.

Speaker 4 (34:06):
You what?

Speaker 3 (34:07):
Else like what's the? Bank how DO i get out of?

Speaker 2 (34:14):
This what do you?

Speaker 4 (34:15):
Think?

Speaker 3 (34:16):
Oh you, GUYS i want more. Context not BECAUSE i
want more, context but like it sounds like you're burning.
Out it also sounds like you used to love this
job and now you don't want's? Changed like is there
somebody at work that's being nasty to? You if you're
crying in the? Bathrooms my, queen OBVIOUSLY i want you to,
Leave but like you're, asking like DO i just push?
Through but like what are we pushing? Through like do

(34:39):
we need to go talk to, aha like do we
need to fix something about this role or are you
genuinely just like burnt out from work and like it's
overwhelming and all consuming and like that's what's like five verys,
tough it's very. Demanded, Yeah like do you need to
take some stress leave or do you need to talk
to your work about some reduced? Hours like if we
Take jess's assumption that it's additional three hundred, grand yes

(35:01):
that's a lot of, money but reduced, hours you'd still
be earning a lot of. Money so do you want
to do reduced hours for that period of? Time do
you know WHAT i? Mean is there some flexibility in?
This AND i think there's probably two questions. Here is
this burnout that maybe could improve with some leave and
showing yourself some. Grace something THAT i feel LIKE i
have to remind my friends at the moment is that

(35:23):
your annual leave isn't just for, Holidays like you could
take a week and rot on your couch and maybe
that's the best thing that you do for your health
and your mental health and your. Life so could we
pull some levers there or has this crossed into this
is fundamentally costing me? Too much of myself at which
point we are absolutely opting. OUT H, YEAH i think

(35:46):
that that's a really big question because more money obviously
buys more freedom and safety and, options but there's also
a point where no salary can actually compensate for your
mental health deteriorating long. Term so, yeah there are a
lot of questions THAT i, Have and is there any
type of LIKE eap program at your work that you
could maybe touch base with and be, like, HEY i am,

(36:09):
struggling what is going? On and YOUR eap program in
a mining, COMPANY i can almost guarantee they have, it
because you're not the only person in mining who's had
mental health. Issues it should be completely, anonymous like you
can call, up have a chat with a, therapist have
a chat with somebody for free to see where you're,
at which is probably WHERE i would be, at because,

(36:31):
like you're already changing your money story by doing, this
and maybe you're going to shoot yourself in the foot
for turning up to your next career with your best
foot forward by being burnt. Out so, like what are we?
Doing what are we? Doing, like let's get our stuff,
together but like let's make a plan.

Speaker 4 (36:45):
True what everyone else?

Speaker 3 (36:46):
Say so, first we asked our, community have you ever
stayed in a job purely for the financial, upside even
if it was impacting your well. BEING i feel like
the number's got to be.

Speaker 6 (36:55):
High.

Speaker 3 (36:55):
Yes seventy ex seven percent of you said you did fair.
Enough what's the bigger? Risk we, asked leaving early and
missing out financially or staying somewhere that is draining, you
and you guys at fifty three percent said the bigger
risk was leaving early and missing out, financially and then
forty seven percent said staying somewhere that is draining. You
we then went to the community and obviously, said, guys

(37:18):
what's your two? Cents very similar to what we are. Saying,
also people are, saying you wouldn't continue to run on
a broken. Leg mental health and wellbeing is a priority
because it will just get. Worse, yeah very. True someone else,
said reap the financial benefits and try to find the
light outside of work to fill your. Cup how are
you doing? That someone, said two years in the grand

(37:39):
scheme of things is quite. Short break it up into
six month slots and find joy. Outside another person, said
it's not actually three hundred grand as a loss if
you find another job that you enjoy for the next
two years and build a thriving. Career, mmmmm good. Point
someone else, said could that three hundred thousand dollars be
offset with any new job or is that the bonus

(38:01):
amount for. Staying they've got questions as. Well another person,
said don't. Forget the longer you are out OF uni
and not in a related, job the harder it is
going to. Get also that you'll always be two years
behind in the actual career you want to. Start it's.
TRUE i find this to be like self. Perpetuating WHEN
i talk to other people in similar, Situations they're, Like,

(38:22):
Oh i'm giving and you know your mind's closing in two,
Years so this is actually a legitimate like. Deadline, Yeah
but like people will be, Like i'll give it another
year and Then i'll take the pay. Cut are you
actually going to take the pay cut or are you
going to find another job in mining because the money's
just too damn.

Speaker 2 (38:35):
Good.

Speaker 3 (38:36):
Yeah someone else said start looking for other jobs and
leave when you have secured something, else and another person,
said we appreciate the highs when we experience the, Lows
so maybe sticking it out would mean that you appreciate
your career interesting in the. Future, WELL i thought that
was interesting, too and we always share like a diverse

(38:56):
range of. Responses and then someone else, said please just
care for your mental. Health AND i think that that's
WHERE i would like to leave. It my, Friends, yeah love,
it sending you lots of. Love, Iulp you're, okay all,
right my. Friends unfortunately that is all we have time for.
Today if you enjoyed this, EPISODE i would love. It
if you told your, friend you told your. Neighbor maybe
you just tell your. CAT i don't. Care tell someone

(39:17):
by the water cooler at work if they're still going
to the water cooler these. Days thank you for being
part of our community and tuning in on probably like
your morning, walk your hot girl commute to, work.
