at the Langham and it was very very nice.
Speaker 5 (01:54):
Thank you, very very much.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
You and the manager on train. That's all up together,
not necessarily spooning to.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
The cupboard film stop. No for socials, for socials.
Speaker 6 (02:05):
You know, see we stand out like a sore thumb
though when we were in a place like that, so we.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
Had You.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
Are very elegantly dressed. I saw a picture on your socials.
Actually an amazing coat you were in obviously on a
red carpet. I think actually Patsy comes with a red carpet.
It's actually his permanently attached to Alex you were.
Speaker 6 (02:30):
Oh that was the live action Moana that is so good.
The Rock is brilliant. And the young girl who plays
Moana seventeen or actually, no, not seventeen. I googled her wrong.
She's nineteen year old Sydney's cider Lapaalia's daughter, and now
I can't remember her name. Yes, brilliant, Oh my god,
(02:54):
just face.
Speaker 7 (02:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Watching the Rock Isa, No, he is not.
Speaker 6 (03:01):
Is the Demi God and he's brilliant. So he lends
his voice in the animation and then you see him
live action in Yeah, she is brilliant. This young girl,
I'll tell you what, she's going to be the next
Nicole Kidman in Hollywood. It's her film debut, first film
she's ever done.
Speaker 5 (03:17):
No, she's brilliant. She's brilliant.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
Take us back to your birthday and because we were
last together, we're obviously in the garden of a pub
show and it was the day before your birthday.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
She had a good birthday weekend.
Speaker 6 (03:29):
Yeah, I had a lovely birthday weekend, thank you very much.
Had a lovely stay in the city. Did some galleries,
some exhibitions, went to the State Library, which I hadn't
done since the primary school student.
Speaker 5 (03:41):
It is so stunning.
Speaker 6 (03:43):
There's just I left that place. It was so weird.
I left that place. This is the State Library in Melbourne.
Feeling this feeling of calm. It's just really not just
because it's quiet, but it's been done so well. There
are so many little nook study nooks and it's brilliant.
Can you can just go there and spend hours?
Speaker 1 (04:01):
I loved it.
Speaker 6 (04:01):
And they've got ned Kelly's armor in there and he's
boot and gum.
Speaker 5 (04:05):
Didn't know they had that.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
I've been to is libraries around the world.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
I've never seen that makes your sort of crime and books.
Speaker 7 (04:15):
That's Australia, tiny little thing.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Let me guess in terms of like, because we've had
a two week break. Brio and I both been to
Europe and we're guessing you slept in till eleven am
every day.
Speaker 5 (04:27):
Oh I did better. So my record was eleven forty
five last Thursday. No not come on, no, I'm listening
to my body.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Any of those optimization videos about here's what you do.
You get up around eleven thirty five, eleven forty five mid.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Day, get up if you can get out of bed
by midday, and then just sluggishly go around the rest
of your day.
Speaker 6 (04:47):
It was fantastic The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
We've only been back on air a couple of minutes
already misinformation is being spread by the news.
Speaker 5 (04:59):
Oh no, what happened?
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Totally wrong person, wrong family tree.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
Did you see the.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
Movie Mina, Yeah, we've got some correction about.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
It's not Lapalia.
Speaker 8 (05:11):
Ah, not Anthony from Without a Trace, No Jayler.
Speaker 6 (05:16):
Guy guya, Yes, of course I do beg your pardon.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
Perhaps you've had too much sleep. I've got jet lag.
We haven't had enough sleep. Somewhere between us.
Speaker 5 (05:27):
Find the balance point right, Thank you for correcting me.
How dare I do that?
Speaker 7 (05:32):
Always getting mistake in those two.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
There needs to be You know, you can watch TV
shows and streaming now, and do you guys watch them
always with the subtitles on?
Speaker 7 (05:41):
Yes, I can't my daughters.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
My daughters can't watch a TV show them. It's a
generational thing. Without the subtitles on. There is not mumbling
these days in TV shows. There is, isn't he It's
easy with the subtitles. They also need another thing of
just constantly above everybody's head.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Who's in a scene, what you've seen them in?
Speaker 2 (05:59):
Yes, that's a great because we can't watch TV show
without my wife. God, Chris, what have we seen them?
They're professionals, this is their job. It makes sense that
we would have seen in other jobs of theirs. It's
not remarkable. It's odder if they haven't been in anything
ever before, they can't be very good.
Speaker 8 (06:18):
We were watching Troy last night actually, like you know,
the old Brad Pitt Angeline. Oh yes, And after about
ten minutes I had to put the subtitles on. But
I think that's because what.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
Led two gay guys to watch that?
Speaker 7 (06:31):
Well, you know what?
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Is it? Cheap porn for you?
Speaker 8 (06:33):
And well that's the actual upsetting thing because in history
Achilles and the Trucolers are gay and they make them
straight in the movie, they straight washed it, they did,
and everyone in that movie is just doing their own accent.
Speaker 7 (06:49):
Eric Banner doing Australian accent.
Speaker 8 (06:50):
Brad Pitt American Angelina Jelly tries to do this sort
of medrane then.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
Keeps up hot.
Speaker 8 (06:56):
Towards the end of it she does she just sort
of slips back into American.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
So you were in Greece, I was in the UK
and I went back. I was back for eight days
and forty three of those days forty three hours flying
and on the return flight, the airline I was with
had a very slip choice of movies.
Speaker 7 (07:16):
That's what did you want?
Speaker 1 (07:17):
Well, I got so bored. I've got sober because it's twenty.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Two hours, especially when you've seen the movies going out
eight days before, the ones that you actually want to
watch Project hell Mary for the second time.
Speaker 7 (07:29):
That's not pretty good, but you know.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
And then coming back there was nothing. There was nothing
that excited me. So I started to have a look
on the TV shows, and then I watched an entire
season of Poor Patrol.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
What my children aren't children anymore.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
They're nineteen and at the end of this week twenty
two there were no kids with me. I'm a guy alone, bored,
watched an entire season of Poor Patrol. I've made notes.
I've got actual opinions on Poor Patrol.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
Christian Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
I think, are you impressed how restrained I've been. I
haven't mentioned the World Cup once.
Speaker 7 (08:06):
I'm very impressed.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
You know, it says hard, it's very hard.
Speaker 7 (08:09):
You have a.
Speaker 8 (08:09):
Complete license to that. Australia's knocked out. I think we
all should be getting behind England.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
Now you feel so exciting.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
You know it's gonna be tough though, because so you'll
playing Argentina now in their semi final, which is amazing
to make it all the way to the semi final. Tough,
tough game yesterday in forty two degrees heat. Tough for
both those countries. Norway the UK they don't get that
kind of sunshine. They genuinely needed those hydration brakes. We
(08:38):
could have done in a few miles and a lot
of red face English people who've never seen he that
let them because it went into it's the time only
have to do nineteen minutes of World Cup action, you
have to do two hours of it.
Speaker 7 (08:49):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
So it's a big tough game.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
But then now to go and face Messi as last
ever World Cup is incredible. Twenty six million people watched
it in the UK yesterday. Wow, I reckon on be
thirty five plus just in the UK, and obviously there
are quite a few people that live in Argentina, so
that'd be it'll be a huge game. But so for
us in Australia's semi final in the English final is
five am, so fast first half before the show and
(09:13):
of course.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
Why is it always this way. Why I'm always on air.
When I first moved here.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
When I first moved here, we were in the semi
finals of the World Cup, the Russian World Cup against Croatia. Yes,
I was alive on air for that misery and capitulation.
And now once more the second half of the semifinal
will be live on air.
Speaker 8 (09:34):
And you might have also forgotten you were live on
air when you lost to France in.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
It stays in my DNA area. I've got so much
form of losing on air.
Speaker 8 (09:47):
It was actually I remember us thinking, oh, it might
actually be a bit funny.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
It was.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
It was for you guys.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
It was actually just the loneliest man on the radio
in Australia.
Speaker 7 (09:58):
It was the saddest I've ever seen a person it was.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
However, that is not going to happen Thursday.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
I believe we will be Argentina and then we're into
the World Cup Final, which would be for us. Guess
what I'm on air for it next month.
Speaker 7 (10:13):
You're kidding.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
To do the radio show if England are in the
World Cup Final.
Speaker 7 (10:21):
I know that's not fair. You should you should get
that day off.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Yeah, I've just been off for two weeks. And also,
you don't.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
Want to be rocking the boat this year at this company.
Google it, Google it, google it. My payout would not
be what he got. Will you take twelve dollars to
do one?
Speaker 4 (10:39):
Christian O'Connell show, Go on podcast.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
I've had a great weekend.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Tell us about your weekend in three words, three word weekend.
This is a very big week for my wife and I.
Our eldest daughter, Ruby turns twenty two, twenty two this Friday.
To my three word weekend is twenty two years of dad.
It's yesterday. I went to go find a birthday card
(11:07):
for her, and I was in the in the shop
and I was looking at all the ages. You know
that I've been buying cards, so it's like six seven, eight, nine, ten,
and then it was twelve, fourteen, sixteen, eighteen, twenty or
remember twenty first last year what we did for that
the wine door. And now I'm like, there's no cards
for twenty two. It's not significant, but it feels like
(11:28):
it's my wife and I. Twenty two years of being
a parent is an incredible thing.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
That's huge.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
So much gratitude, that's what I actually feel. His excitement,
She's graduated, she's got her degree. Now, it's like and also,
when we moved here over eight years ago, she was
turning fourteen. And at the end of this year, Patsy Lowest,
my youngest daughter, turns twenty, and then we're finally out.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
Of the teens.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
Feels like I've been stuck at that level for all
of my friend I think I had babies. I think
actually my wife gave birth to teenagers. I struggled to
remember when they were like four or five, but I've
got too many memories of the teenage never ending final
boss year.
Speaker 7 (12:09):
Well maybe twenty.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
Yeah, I am very, very proud.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
And when I was in the car ship yesterday, I
had my youngest daughter, Lowest with me and we were
talking about Yester evening. We just had dinner, the two
of us. She was like, do you think that we've
made you a better person? I went one hundred percent.
Then I went, that wasn't a monster before you came along. Yes,
you've definitely made me a better person. But it's not
like I was still a nice guy before it became
a dad.
Speaker 7 (12:34):
It wasn't like.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
Ferrel wondering the streets, barking at people and stuff like that.
Speaker 7 (12:38):
And you've helped them out a fair bito.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
That's ongoing the whole relationship. Who's happing who? It's a seesaw,
it's a sea saw being a pent real? What is
your three word?
Speaker 1 (12:48):
Weekend?
Speaker 8 (12:49):
Mine is tricked by the Greeks. So I went on
a lovely holiday to the Greek island.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
You have a great time.
Speaker 7 (12:55):
It was, It was incredible.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
What a beautiful country, right, it's divine.
Speaker 8 (12:59):
Oh my god, I got you guys, actually some little presents.
I got you some donkey milk age, defying faith Mark
how rude.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
Also he held up all the sets for her.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
Large ones, perhaps normal size, a Greek donkey milk face.
Speaker 5 (13:20):
If I start going get really worried, we could all.
Speaker 7 (13:24):
Use some donkey milk. But so we have to hire
a car to get around.
Speaker 8 (13:29):
And in my head, and what was on the website
was like a beautiful kind of red feat, you know,
like talented.
Speaker 7 (13:38):
Yes, exactly. We go to the store, the higher car place.
Speaker 8 (13:42):
What he pulls out, he drives out what could I
only describe as this ancient rust bucket. It is red,
to be fair, but it is not a feat. It's
not a car brand I'd ever been familiar with. I
think it was like a defunct Eastern European Eastern German.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
To pay a small fortune, have you come back financially ruined?
It was so Europe is so expensive.
Speaker 8 (14:03):
The worst park is car which there's a lot of
hills in some of the islands, and this car has
like three yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
And also now you finally met proper hills, yes, not
like when you go Sydney's a bit hilly or where
we're on a hill right now, that's a slope.
Speaker 7 (14:17):
Super super steep, inclined, and this car had.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
Finy little streets as well. Right's a click face drop.
Speaker 8 (14:25):
And I knew before going up this, I was like,
there's no way this car's get to get because those
you're going up to the heavens. Oh, getting a fair
bit of momentum as we're about three quarters of the
way up, and I can feel us like slowing and
slowing and slowing and slowing. And then came to a
complete stop with about twenty meters still on.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
The hand there's always those great big coaches swinging around
the corners, you know, with loaded tourists.
Speaker 8 (14:50):
So I had to put the brake on and the
hand but there wasn't actually a parking mode. All you
had was a handbrake neutral and then put the handbrake
on and then Will had to sit in the car,
take the handbrake off, and I had to.
Speaker 7 (15:03):
Push the car up the rest of the wash and
it was actually pretty easy.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
It was so light.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
So you are the problems, Yeah, you've had too much
Greek cheese exactly.
Speaker 7 (15:15):
But it's it was the most terrified. Like half seconds,
I was like, are we going to right? We're gonna roll?
Speaker 1 (15:21):
Driving in Europe is frightening. Yeah.
Speaker 7 (15:24):
Crazy. If you thought Melbourne Peak how was bad?
Speaker 1 (15:27):
It's easy.
Speaker 7 (15:28):
These guys are maniac Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
Yeah, they drive so quickly. And also did you find
that everyone smokes everywhere.
Speaker 7 (15:34):
Still in twenty twenty.
Speaker 2 (15:35):
They don't care. It's like they haven't got Google where,
they don't know the risks. They're smoking everywhere, aren't they?
During meals you see someone lighting up having a nice
Greek salad.
Speaker 7 (15:45):
Yeah, restaurants part Australia, you can't smoke.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
So what about those old Greek guys that sit around
outside that taverna about ten am? I would love to
got that big old distended belly out that give zero s,
don't they?
Speaker 1 (15:57):
Those big cheeses that like, yes, yeah, that's amazing.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
Three Word Weekend drove through rainbow? Do that far so Australia?
Why do you drive through it?
Speaker 1 (16:11):
How do you drive through it? Can you drive through
a rainbow?
Speaker 5 (16:15):
It's not always it's always in the distance.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
Yes, No one's ever touched one.
Speaker 5 (16:20):
No, we'll got a part of gold at the end
of it.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
How do you drive through a rainbow?
Speaker 2 (16:25):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (16:25):
I thought they were like an optical illusion. I don't
know what a rainbow is.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
If I'm particular, it's the light entering and refracting. All
light contains rays of color.
Speaker 7 (16:38):
I'm saying, but I don't really know what you're saying.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
I think it is. It is definitely to do with refraction.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
And maybe this person means when they drove through the
rainbow they went through the semi circle.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
By the Golden Artist McDonald's three word weekends are coming
through the moment. Tell us about your weekend of three
words four five three one oh four three Got a colonoscopy? Well,
that's a lovely way to spend a weekend, isn't having
Everything's okay? Suspension not lifted. That's from one of our listeners, Shane,
thank you very much, Christian. Do you want me to
(17:13):
make you a custom made card for Ruby's twenty second
this Friday. I did get some cards yesterday, and the
plural is deliberate. Whenever I buy a birthday card for somebody,
I have to get two copies of that card because
I would invariably screw up the first one. Ah Ye,
it's just not used to handwriting. It's embarrassing to say
you're not used to handwriting. Then and then you get
(17:35):
You'll make a spelling mistake.
Speaker 7 (17:37):
Y spelling mistakes.
Speaker 2 (17:39):
You know you're try and then just write over it
or something, and then it's ruined the card, isn't it.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
They know what they see is the mistake, don't they?
Speaker 7 (17:46):
And your handwriting is very day.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
Do you know what I got?
Speaker 2 (17:50):
Because my handwriting is on a little on the last shot,
I've got one of those A four cards.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
Coworking. Yes, wait, she's leaving twenty one.
Speaker 4 (18:01):
The Christian O'Connell show podcast.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
We were doing the save our Pig, Save our pub
Save our Pig. It's a new idea I'm launching in
an hour's time and just.
Speaker 1 (18:11):
So excited it stumbled out a little bit rusty, but yeah,
we're going we're trying to save the pigs of Australia.
Here the Latsky going with it now.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
In the last twenty years, sixty percent of pigs I've
been made to beltis and that is wrong.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
We might say five great Australian pigs and do a
live show from a sty. That's how we come back.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
You come back strong. Other shows right now going bloody yell.
They just keep leveling up. They probably would say yes anyway, Uh, Australia,
we're about to play in the World Cup, and of
course we know what happened.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
But the cruelness of penalties, there's nothing like it in sport.
Is the penalty shootout.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
It's brutal and maybe maybe it hadn't looked like that
was their practice session at these things called penalties. I mean,
Sue has just shot landed yet still in orbit. When
he who fat one out of the stadium, I was
like time to go home.
Speaker 8 (19:16):
Yeah, and you straight away we were in a I
was in Greece and we were surrounded by probably about
thirty Egyptians going crazy. As soon as he scired that
one in the air, everyone in the restaurant you and
I was like, yeah, this is done, this is over.
Speaker 2 (19:29):
Well, when we were there, they had the midday game
on the friday that I was flying back to Melbourne
for being up there, and amasually gets sort of patchy
Wi Fi reception.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
Why are planes start to offer Wi Fi? Don't ruin
a good thing?
Speaker 2 (19:42):
Agree, there's nowhere in life now you can be left
alone for a short period.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
The ability of my wife to speak to me in
the air isn't needed.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
But anyway I could get I was streaming the game,
I would suddenly get into a pocket of reception right
And at one point the pilot came out, recognized me
and listens to the show and then was going, what's
the score?
Speaker 1 (20:05):
How are we giving on?
Speaker 2 (20:06):
We've got all the coms up there, shoorny, you can
you know you can speak to someone in the big
tower hopefully.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
Actually they're not watching it.
Speaker 7 (20:16):
Sure way is here not driving.
Speaker 1 (20:18):
The They have a co pilot, don't they? How would they?
Surely well they have to come out. They come out
to go to toilet, not.
Speaker 7 (20:27):
To have a sit in chat with Now.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
I think they should come out with some cannapase and
work the rule where people can know they're again stress
and even at one point I was and went, please
get back and I'm not a nervous fly, but it's
actually making me anxious.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
You know, these things they fly themselves. I don't hear it.
Speaker 7 (20:45):
What are we paying you for?
Speaker 1 (20:46):
Mate? Exactly? Get back in there.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
Stop worrying about the score. All right, let's beak to intern. Pete, Pete,
how's your weekend?
Speaker 9 (20:53):
Weekend was great, guys.
Speaker 10 (20:54):
I was in Adelaide in South Australia over the weekend
for a fortieth birthday, but one of those groups that
I haven't seen for a while, about almost about ten
years as well, so it was a bit of a
reunion as well. It was really really good, lots of fun,
few little drinkies, south a stray, such a beautiful, beautiful
Where were you So? It's in Lindock, about maybe an
hour out of Adelaide. I think it is Danny Gauler.
(21:16):
They've got some beautiful wineries and stuff like that down there.
Got myself a few clean skins on the way home,
which was good. So which was great, But I think
the part for me was one of those themes which
I was traveling, so I wasn't really going to do
the theme.
Speaker 9 (21:29):
The theme was where something you would never wear or
like to look you know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (21:33):
Like, so you just you would wear a strange thing,
a bit lazy. Where's something you wouldn't Yeah, I don't want.
Speaker 9 (21:42):
To wear where. So it's like I was thinking, because
I didn't bring anything.
Speaker 10 (21:45):
My friends were like, oh, do you want to wear
an Adelaide scarf AFL scuff because.
Speaker 9 (21:48):
You would never wear that. I'm a geelong supporter, right,
so it could be something quirky like.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
That, or so souky. Oh, this guy years with Carl
and Jackie. He is outrageous.
Speaker 7 (21:59):
Don't go over there in the scuff. We want a character.
Speaker 1 (22:06):
Adelaide's socks is rocking as well.
Speaker 7 (22:09):
Yeah, yeah, you know me.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
You know me as well.
Speaker 10 (22:11):
So everyone was just wearing weird and wacky, crazy stuff
and I ran into this guy that I hadn't seen
for almost ten years.
Speaker 9 (22:17):
His name was Hayden, and I honestly I hadn't seen him.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
He's normally like well.
Speaker 7 (22:22):
Groomed, you know, pocont socks on.
Speaker 10 (22:26):
Wild, but he rocked up in a flattereled shirt, tattoos,
he had a musk.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
So it came as an Australia, that's it.
Speaker 10 (22:36):
And I was like, in my head, I was like, hey,
he looks really cool, like he's gone all out tonight
blah blah.
Speaker 9 (22:40):
Now few drinks in. It does take a type of
person to go. I definitely want to pull that wig
off just as a bit of a joke. Blah blah blah.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
So I did.
Speaker 10 (22:48):
It's not a wig, that's his hair. He's completely changed
his look over the last ten years. He's basically a
hippie now. And I literally brought the party to a
giant holt because he screamed actual hair. He wasn't wearing
a wig at all. It was his actual hair because
he had had two little dread blocks.
Speaker 9 (23:08):
And it looked like a wig. What I thought was
a wig, it wasn't. It was his actual hair.
Speaker 7 (23:13):
And not to pay like still attached to him.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
Yeah, he had him into Turkey, some work done Turkish hair.
Speaker 10 (23:20):
He just had completely changed his looking. I thought that
was him in costume, but now he's changed his character.
He's changed to who he looks like, all that sort
of stuff, and it was just.
Speaker 7 (23:28):
I was I was embarrassed.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
I tell you what. That's a big pivot for any guy.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
Normally that hair just gets locked down in your twenties
and thirties and that's it for the rest of your life.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
Women experiment more than men with hair.
Speaker 2 (23:40):
Yeah, yeah, hence why you just thought that and just
pulled it thinking it was even if it was a
week you don't get around, Yankee.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
But that's because you're the wild man.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
Christian Connor Show podcast.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
Well, so I've just come back from We've been on
a two week break and I went back to the
UK see my mom, my dad and my sister and
have a couple of days in London and the weather
there is unbelievably was off.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
You get just as given. I'd never I've never been
in London and seen it consistently degrees.
Speaker 4 (24:17):
It is.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
Everything has contact dependent real it is there. People didn't
know what.
Speaker 5 (24:22):
To do, and no air conditioning over there.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
No air conditioning.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
This cheap ass Airbnb I was in was in a
very big, old old cottage with thick walls, and it
was obviously there because you know, like a lot of
English buildings, it's there for months of cold weather. It's
not designed. There's been a waste of money to get
air conditioning, and I had to sleep with the windows open.
I had gone by an electric fan. They're all sold out.
(24:49):
It was a tiny one and it was still sweltering.
It was sleeping in a sweat lodge every single night.
Speaker 7 (24:56):
For everything's designed to keep heat in the Yes.
Speaker 1 (24:59):
It's horrendous.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
It's horrendous anyway, watching a lot because different time zone,
still keeping up with the World Cup, and manage to
see an England game in a pub, which was amazing
just being amongst other people in sports fans and also
was watching one game. So I'm about to play this
commentary in two parts, two different games, same commentators. The
guy you're going to hear talking is Danny Murphy. Danny
(25:23):
Murphy now a commentator same in sports over here, former
legends turned to comms. Danny Murphy played for many years
an amazing player for Liverpool, now doing commentary. He's a
Northern guy, kind a bit like Carl Pilkinton and often
during a game, when there's a break where there's not
much action, he will just start to chat. And as
soon as I heard he was commentator, Danny Murphy's back,
(25:44):
then he starts telling a story about Bob the Cat
now Royal Mail. Obviously the UK's version of oz post
have listened to part one. You should to have a
cat called Bob. This is during the Norway game. This
is during a World Cup game. All right, Harland is
playing one of the world's best place.
Speaker 1 (26:01):
You should have a cat called Bob. The game's not
that bad. He jumped in the back of a Royal
mail van and they lost him. Sad really.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
Anyway, Anyway, the game picks up, but everyone including me,
was like, what happened to Bob the cat jumped into
that postman?
Speaker 1 (26:22):
But then what does he die? Does he come back?
Speaker 2 (26:24):
Three days later, those two are back commentating with a
different game, and they'd had people writing and emailing wanting
to know the part two, what happened to Bob the cat?
Speaker 1 (26:36):
Let's find out? He told the story about your cat.
Speaker 11 (26:40):
Bob, surprising Steve. There was a lot of interest, which
surprised us both. But yeah, he didn't actually die. We
did get him back six or seven weeks later. Unfortunately,
he had gone feral and we couldn't Reintegrahm into the
home and he ended up living with my friend's parents
in Preston and now he is passed away.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
Unfortunately.
Speaker 11 (27:01):
Thanks for all the concern those who have been Message you.
Speaker 2 (27:03):
Knows as a deafening noise obviously acts and at the
World Cup and they had to do a part two
about poor old Bob the cat. He came back, but
it was too feral to be reintegrated. The game I
got again. This is actual commentary from the BBC from
Danny Murphy about his cat Bob.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
He told the story about your cat Bob.
Speaker 11 (27:28):
Surprising Steve. There was a lot of interest, which surprised
us both. But yeah, he didn't actually die. We did
get him back six or seven weeks later. Unfortunately he
had gone feral and we couldn't reintegra him into the
home and he ended up living with my friend's parents
in Preston and now he is passed away unfortunately. Thanks
for all the concern those who have been Message you knows.
Speaker 1 (27:51):
All right, pe boss, I want to know what happened
to break Bob in just six or seven weeks? What
breaks a cat?
Speaker 2 (27:57):
Well, he can't he's gone so feral in just six
weeks that he can't be reintegrated back into Danny's family.
And wait for it, they had to give away this
crazy feral cat to their friends' parents in Preston.
Speaker 7 (28:08):
Why would they want your fair would they want a
wild cat?
Speaker 4 (28:11):
Bob Christian O'Connell show on podcast.
Speaker 2 (28:16):
Don't you find if you're on a long haul flight
you start watching movies whatever emotions I don't.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
Know are high race.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
Definitely, even a movie that wouldn't move you to tears
and get feeling emotionally you watch on the plane. It's
different and maybe there's some science on this. I'd love
to find out. But anyway, I found myself getting very
emotionally involved in a Jason Stathan movie.
Speaker 7 (28:36):
Oh not usually emotionally charged.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
Tell you one thing about Jason Statham is he knows
what his fan based wants. Not too much stretching in
the acting department for Jason Statham. I watched his new
movie called Shelter and Straight While I was like, oh,
this is the same plot every single movie. See if
you can wrap your head around this high concept, real
stretch For Jason Statham. He's a retired assassin, haunted, wanted
(29:05):
by his past, now living in a lighthouse on a
remote Scottish island. Straight away, you know, enjoy that piece
and quiet for now. The pass is going to come
on a small boat to get you and O'Connor's going
to be watching that movie.
Speaker 8 (29:22):
Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (29:22):
I watched it twice on the way to London. On
the way back from London, it wasn't good.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
I watched it.
Speaker 2 (29:27):
I watched it in reverse on the way back. Completely
different movie experience. Every movie, every movie, he's always a
retired assassin. He's never not a retired assassin. He's never
a retired math teacher or caretaker or postman who is
haunted by the past.
Speaker 8 (29:46):
I'm just looking at the movie poster and it looks
like it could be any Jason Satan movie.
Speaker 7 (29:50):
He's in a big woolen coat and he's holding a
gun and he's running.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
Yes, that's every movie for the last twenty years. But
you've got to mind the mass consistency.
Speaker 7 (30:00):
And then so you've got emotional during this movie.
Speaker 1 (30:02):
Yes, he starts to look after an orphaned girl. It works.
Speaker 2 (30:09):
Hang on a minute, but he was living on that island. Yeah, anyway,
takes in an orphant girl. It's a beautiful story. You
want to see the ending. The ending of the scene
made me cry. It's a beautiful ending to a very
very powerful movie.
Speaker 8 (30:24):
You should try watching it on land and see if
you're crying. It's just the airplane that's making you cry.
Speaker 7 (30:30):
In adjacent state. Do you know what mid range movie?
Speaker 2 (30:33):
I'm going to give you money to watch it this
week to pay for it to be streamed. Okay, because
now in general lease and you or that last scene
will floor you will happily watch it. Flowed floored this reviewer.
Speaker 7 (30:46):
On Amazon Prime.
Speaker 1 (30:48):
Get yourself, get yourself a snack, and then the other thing.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
Because obviously, flying to the ukan back forty forty three
forty four hours of flying, you run out of movies,
you know, you don't Suddenly you're going back to like
the nineties and trapped here watching that, So I end
up watching an entire series. I was flying by myself.
The kids want with me. They're not kids anymore, they're
nineteen and twenty one of a TV show. Moms and
(31:13):
dads will know you's got younger kids. Poor patrol.
Speaker 7 (31:16):
That's crazy.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
Oh it's pretty good. How I really got involved?
Speaker 2 (31:20):
Honestly, hats off that ten year old boy, you know,
running that town's infrastructure with dogs, and he's got a
rival who uses kittens. Oh my goodness, Oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
I got favorite characters as well.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
Now Rocky as well. I've got a lot to say
about por patrol.
Speaker 4 (31:37):
The Christian O'Connell show podcast.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
Good morning to Carli Christian. Thank good as my kids
have now moved on from poor patrol. Because I used
to watch loads and loads of it, and like you,
I had questions who's funding this kind of technology? The
pup packs, the air patroller, the sub patroller.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
I could never.
Speaker 2 (31:56):
Figure out where all the money was coming from. Obviously,
like you, had too much time thinking about this. I
actually made notes on my phone because I had a
lot of time, sure to do that. Number One high emergences.
Who actually wrote the entire emergency infrastructure of this town? Fire, police,
air rescue, Maritime is run by a ten year old
boy in six puppies. Where are the adults? There's a mayor.
(32:20):
Her emergency plan is a handbag chicken. Number two the
funding same as you, Carli. These dogs have vehicles, they
have headquarters with an elevator. Who's trained the dogs to
use a lift and a periscope? How on earth would
a dog now to use a periscope? Someone is paying
for this, and I want to see the books. Number three,
(32:41):
This is why I got confused. The Dalmatian Marshall think
he's called is a fire dog and he's a bloody liability.
Every single episode he crashes into something and goes, I'm okay,
He's not okay, he's got issues. But yes, Carlie, I
totally agree with you. Now we need you all to
(33:01):
listen very carefully to my words. Two years ago, the
show was under attack. Two years ago, the radio landscape
looked very different. Let's go down memory Lane, Memory Lane,
Memory Lane, Memory laneanel.
Speaker 1 (33:23):
Suddenly coming into our city when we're just in one city.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
The Christian O'Connell show been in Melbourne, another show was
coming in from Sydney.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
Rip Carl and Jackio.
Speaker 2 (33:38):
Now we worked for the same company, and they asked
my marketing money and gave it to Carl and Jackio,
so they could have literally bought the town gentleman. They
were post us everywhere. They had their own.
Speaker 1 (33:51):
Coach at one point, that big coach.
Speaker 7 (33:54):
And the best part about all that marketing money was
it worked.
Speaker 2 (33:57):
So well, it worked very very well. So well they've
now retired, they don't need to do radio anymore. So
we couldn't have afford any billboards. And so one day
I was driving and it was Bindai for the suburb
that I live in, and I suddenly saw all these
bins being wheeled out face side. We all know how
to wheel the bins out face side. On the streets
(34:19):
you see bins, bins, bins, bin's bins, and that's a
bit like billboards the straightaway. I thought, could we get
some cheap stickers and use bins as binboards? And the
Rebel Bin Army was born and we managed to hold
the line here in Melbourne. Yeah, but now the show
is in Sydney and Adelaide, Brisbane and Berth. We are
a national show. But the real battlefront at the moment is,
(34:42):
of course Sydney. It is in free fall when we're
in Sydney a couple of weeks ago. All the other
rival shows trying to get the number one spot. They've
got their adverts all over the billboards. We need the
bins to come back. Yes, And like any military campaign, okay,
there's always the fronts that you're fighting on. Where is
(35:02):
our straight off, Homos, it's Western Sydney. As soon as
we start talking about them national show, our boss south Vader,
she said, you've got to take the West if you
can't make it in the west of Sydney. You won't
make it.
Speaker 7 (35:16):
She had like a war map.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
Out on the Barra Matta black Town. She was like
naming these suburbs or the west. She said, if you
can make it in the west, the rest will fall.
It's a catchphrase here in Melbourne. I think the mission
the battlefront here is about holding the line. Been here
for eight years. Okay, this city made this show, made
(35:37):
me so in Sydney, we need our commander on the ground.
There boots on the ground and that is you, intern Pete.
Speaker 9 (35:46):
Yes, I can do something for the show that you
got to love. I hope, Well it's just anyway.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
Sorry, Yeah, I thank you.
Speaker 7 (35:54):
A great start.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
And Carl still hasn't called you and offered you a
job on his podcast. Keep messaging Cargo and he can
take him on a free transfer. You definitely don't need
him on that podcast.
Speaker 8 (36:06):
You don't really get the commander from the army that
sort of left and you pick up here and say, oh,
he's our commander to take us on.
Speaker 2 (36:12):
Yes, you know, so we need you to run the
operations in the West, Peter, Okay, to help us take
the west and spread the word. This isn't just in
we understand about trying to get the show to number one.
That's not what we're about in the Bright Solidal. It's
just about spreading the word. The number one thing we
hear from new listeners who are finding us in Melbourne
or Adelaide or Sydney is I didn't know there was
(36:33):
radio like this. We do it differently and it's up
to you whether you prefer that or not. But we
just want to spread the word right now, it's hard
to do that. Everyone's saying, you know, Triple M could
people want to listen to that any morning in Sydney.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
I mean, that's we've given up on life, isn't it.
Come on, there's got to be another alternative.
Speaker 2 (36:51):
It's us And I think if you're driving around and
you suddenly see some advertising promoting a.
Speaker 1 (36:57):
Radio show on the side of a bin, you go,
that's my kind of show.
Speaker 7 (37:01):
They've got bin.
Speaker 9 (37:04):
Yes, we have Greg BINSI too, like we have multiple I.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
Know there's a lot rivalry between Sydney and Melbourne. You're
now going to lord Over saying you've got better bens.
Speaker 7 (37:13):
We got some good bins here in Melbourne as well,
Thank you very much.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
Have you seen the mcg bins the bins of Great
Ocean Road.
Speaker 10 (37:20):
Oh they are good too, aren't they. You got great
recycling down there too, we do as well. Just anyway,
nothing about the beans. But I'm just excited to be
a part of the program.
Speaker 1 (37:27):
So all right, So here's what we need right now,
Melbourne represent show up. Can we have your bin?
Speaker 2 (37:33):
The other shows are taking the billboards, we're taking the bins.
All we need from you to help spread the word
of the bright Side is your bin calling now? Thirteen
fifty five twenty two, Pete, you have five shows to
get a Christian O'Connell's show binsticker on.
Speaker 1 (37:50):
The bins of the Prime Minister.
Speaker 2 (37:54):
Five shows, so much too much time. You get down
a Kira billy House, you use that charm of yours. Ye,
you use that charm of yours and you get albow
to ask if you can put the stickers of the
show on the bin.
Speaker 10 (38:07):
Question for you, though, we're happy with Kier Billy House.
Or do we do the lodge or do we do
the one that's out near Dallich Hill. He's got three,
you know, I'll do all three beans, Baggaret, We're doing
all three?
Speaker 1 (38:16):
Is that okay?
Speaker 2 (38:17):
With you.
Speaker 1 (38:17):
Yeah, all three.
Speaker 2 (38:19):
Okay, So look, two years ago the Rebel bin Army,
we're not an army of war. What are we now
with the bright Side of Diet? Okay, so it's now
renamed the Army the bright Side Battalion. So you're joining
the bright Side Battalion now, now, guys, I've had to
think about this again.
Speaker 1 (38:33):
I had a long time on a plane.
Speaker 2 (38:34):
I don't know if I've first told you about this
in between them tucking into poor Patrol. I've got new
roles for you in the bright Side Battalium. Okay, all right,
I'm the Rebel Captain Bin Solo Rio.
Speaker 1 (38:47):
I rename you now, Chu Binker.
Speaker 2 (38:50):
Now, in the Star Wars movies and that universe, there
is a simple farm boy made good. Now that is
Luke Skywalker, who is a simple farm boy in this show.
Speaker 1 (38:59):
You're already there. It's Luke bin Walker.
Speaker 2 (39:01):
Pete, you are now Luke bin Walker's.
Speaker 1 (39:06):
Luke ben Walker, the farm Boy made Good.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
The Christian O'Connell show podcast.
Speaker 2 (39:13):
Christian, You're ripe. There's only about watching movies on a
plane that always makes me more emotional. I watched Big
Hero six and almost had an entire breakdown. The person
next to me actually checked. I was okay, Oh that's
very sweet. Then shelter mightbe a little bit too much
to you, my friend. It ain't for the faint hearted.
Speaker 1 (39:32):
Christian. I'd love to join the bright Side Battalion. Christian.
Speaker 2 (39:36):
I when you recruit the show, I love it now
it's hesitant at first. That's from VICKI, Christian. What about
Patsy in the bright Side Battalion?
Speaker 5 (39:44):
Bin Cess Leia, love it, love it, bro, Just don't
make me wear that bikini.
Speaker 7 (39:50):
I plase.
Speaker 1 (39:51):
I don't think that's work safe. Christian, I drive a
garbage truck. Four. We want to take the Western Sydney.
Speaker 2 (39:59):
Hold the line here in Melbourne, Black Town Council, Big One,
Big One.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
We have secret agent in a way, no go man
on the inside. We're still blower.
Speaker 2 (40:10):
I'd love I'll take some because bin stickers and get
them done for you.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
Christian.
Speaker 2 (40:14):
Christian, welcome back. I'm offering my being. What about w
a Mandura very west? Yes, he wanted the west, not
that west, which we'll send someone. We've got to focus
which west. It's the west of That's what the boss
was on about.
Speaker 1 (40:33):
If you can take the west of Perth. You've made
it in radio in Australia.
Speaker 7 (40:37):
Once you've got Rottenest Island.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
Yeah, all right, there's chatter two. Some people want to
join the binfan tree. That's the entry level here is. Yeah,
you know that there's more uh lot of time in
the year. Join the binfantry and then if you sticker
five bends or more set as photographic evidence, you get
promoted to the highest rank in the bright Side Battalion.
(40:59):
General Waste should have just left left. Maybe too much
time sat in the air. All right, let's beak to
some of the infantry.
Speaker 4 (41:11):
Carol, good morning, Good morning, captain.
Speaker 1 (41:15):
How are you?
Speaker 2 (41:15):
I'm good Carol. So you're up for joining the Bryce
Side Battalion. You can give us your bin.
Speaker 3 (41:20):
I have already given you one bin, but I need
two more. I need more stickers.
Speaker 2 (41:26):
You got a spare ben or a second bin? Yeah,
you got the recycling or list to general.
Speaker 3 (41:30):
One recycling and the garden bin. But I'm also living
a court, so therefore I could actually campaign to get
the rest of the court.
Speaker 1 (41:40):
And then of course five more and you get you General.
Speaker 3 (41:46):
I do put the bin out on a Wednesday night.
Sometimes I get a beat because I live on a
corner and I'm not too sure. Is that that for
the bin sticker?
Speaker 2 (41:56):
No, no, it's a fellow listener. All I think I
said two years ago, beat the bin to a fellow
ben listener. Yeah, okay, yeah, that's what that is. It's
our secret code. That's when we know each other. It's
resistance the underground.
Speaker 3 (42:11):
It actually works. A great, great invention.
Speaker 1 (42:14):
Thank you, Carol. We'll send you some more stickers and
thanks you support.
Speaker 3 (42:16):
Carol, fantastic, Thank you, captain.
Speaker 1 (42:19):
Let's go to Julie.
Speaker 2 (42:19):
Now, Julie, you want to join the benfant Tree and
the bright Side Battalion.
Speaker 7 (42:26):
Hello, Julie, deep undercover.
Speaker 1 (42:29):
That's why I don't worries Monday morning.
Speaker 3 (42:30):
It's all okay, yes, I'd like to join the Bin Battalion.
Speaker 1 (42:34):
Thank you, thank you very much. Thank you for your ben,
Thank you for sport. And whereabouts are you? Soudia? Right?
So far western Sydney?
Speaker 3 (42:43):
Oh, sort of northwest out in the Hawk Spree the
foot of the Blue Mountains.
Speaker 2 (42:47):
Oh wow, wait, we can secure the footholes of the
Blue Mountains. We have an advantage point if you can
take a hell the moral high ground. Do you mean
