Speaker 1 (01:08):
Good morning, Pats.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
Morning, everyone.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Good morning, Rio.
Speaker 5 (01:11):
Good morning.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
Good morning, intern Pete.
Speaker 5 (01:12):
Good morning, everybody.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Now, Patsy, how was the reunion on Friday with your daughter?
She was away at camp last week.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
Oh, I can't tell you.
Speaker 6 (01:20):
I don't know if you've seen that Michael Jackson meme
where he goes through his.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
List of injuries. Depends which one you're talking about.
Speaker 6 (01:25):
It was a bit like, you know, I was in
a lot of pain. She got in the car and
it was like a list of injuries. She was bitten
by a bull ant three times, which is never pleasant.
So she's got these big red welts on her leg.
She was sore.
Speaker 5 (01:42):
My body's aching.
Speaker 6 (01:43):
She even said at one point, I think I know
how granddad feels in the morning when.
Speaker 5 (01:47):
He gets out of bed.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
She's 15, for goodness sake.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
But how long was she at school camp for?
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Four days.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
Four days, three nights.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
I bet she came back exhausted, didn't she?
Speaker 6 (01:58):
Oh, she was so tired. Even still last night. And
then they had dehydrated food for the entire week.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
They really appreciate home. They should do it once a month.
Speaker 7 (02:07):
Oh, no.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
So, no, I think they should go and live like
that once a month. They really appreciate the home life
a lot more.
Speaker 6 (02:13):
Dehydrated food. I said, what did you have for breakfast?
She said, mum, there was dehydrated yogurt. Or there was
dehydrated something else. She said it was disgusting. She said
at least we had toast, although it wasn't toast. They
just like whacked loaves of bread on the table that
wasn't actually toasted.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
That's enough for teenagers.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (02:30):
Well, so she could have whatever she wanted. She wanted
my pulled pork Friday night. So she, as she was
ending it, she's going, oh my God, it's real food.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
What a treat.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
And then how were you with your reunion? Did you
hold back the emotions?
Speaker 4 (02:42):
I had to. I had no choice.
Speaker 6 (02:44):
I did the school pickup because she had all her gear.
I was under strict instruction not to get out of
the car. But as soon as she got in the
front seat, I couldn't help but like, you know, just
touch her.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
Just like be there.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Touch her leg.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
It's like, yeah, you're finally home.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
I was told to park around the corner.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Park around the corner?
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Like that was a scandal or something? Park around the
optics don't look good, Dad, of you being here. Park
around the corner.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
I'm not doing that.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
You should have seen the kids, though, as they were
piling off the bus. They just looked like it was Armageddon.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
Well, they'd been to the front lines.
Speaker 8 (03:16):
They'd only been away for four days.
Speaker 5 (03:17):
It's unbelievable. Barely recognisable.
Speaker 6 (03:21):
They had, like, four different camps. One of the camps
they went, it sounded fantastic, paddling along the Murray River,
which sounded brilliant. But Audrey said, my God, you should
have seen those kids, Mum. They looked like they'd been.
Speaker 8 (03:31):
Dragged out of death.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
That's how it was Chris's Father's Day yesterday. Did he
get the re-gift voucher? The highlight of my day yesterday
genuinely was having a Macca's. And I parked up in those,
you know those big long bays that they have for
their trucks? They're like super wide and there was no
one there. That was my Father's Day at five. And
I've got to be honest, really happy. Really happy. I
actually mumbled to myself, Happy Father's Day.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
No, no, no. It's peak living.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
So how was Chris's?
Speaker 4 (04:06):
Oh, he had a lovely time.
Speaker 6 (04:07):
But I know your point is, you know, that he's
probably only got.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
A couple of years left where he's actually– no, I
don't mean like he's falling off the side of the planet.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Oh, my arse. My arse?
Speaker 2 (04:19):
No.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
This gave way over the weekend.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
No, I mean– My wife said to me over the weekend,
we were talking about our favourite songs, and for some
reason she never retains any information on my favourite songs.
I think you guys would be able to put together
a playlist of my favourite songs more than my wife
of 28 years. Yeah. And she said, I think you
should save and send to us your funeral playlist. I went,
(04:41):
how do you 53? Where do I need to start?
Banking that now? What do you know is coming around
the corner? Or what have you got planned more likely?
You're going to have to start looking under the car.
Just in case.
Speaker 6 (04:53):
No, I mean like where he is the centre of
attention for one day, where he's made a fuss of.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
Because if anything.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
It has to change.
Speaker 5 (05:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
It does.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
One of my daughters FaceTimed me yesterday in the afternoon. Lois,
who was in Battle of the Bands yesterday evening, they
had a rehearsal that ended up in a blowout.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
Oh, no.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
That's a good role for you. It's nice to know
there's a dad you still needed. Happens in Breakfast Radio.
Happens in Breakfast Radio. And they came third.
Speaker 5 (05:20):
That's pretty good.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
I had to wait until midnight to find the result.
Speaker 8 (05:24):
Oh, wow.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Oh, really? Yes.
Speaker 7 (05:26):
Who are they taking texts like Australian idols to tally
the votes?
Speaker 1 (05:30):
Yeah, it's just such a big old deal.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Then I got asked to stump up $ 22. She had
to buy her own ticket to get into her own
battle of bands. Hey, that's showbiz. You want to start
in showbiz, you start at the bottom of the totem pole.
They charge those young kids an idol. If you want
to bring your family, it's 20 bucks each, mace rates.
Speaker 5 (05:48):
Pay to play. That's brilliant.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
Third, there's so many bands competing in that.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
Yeah, yeah, there were, yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
They had a great time as well.
Speaker 7 (05:54):
Amazing.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 6 (05:55):
Yeah, no, the Love God had a great day. We
took him to the Langham for the buffet, which was
very nice. He was very impressed. They had like a
cannelloni station. You could make your own cannelloni.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
The way you talk about it sometimes, if you're taking
him out like an elderly relative. Or Homer Simpson. Oh,
he had a lovely day.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
There was a cannelloni station.
Speaker 9 (06:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Mmm, Chris Happy.
Speaker 6 (06:16):
It was a bit like that. But we did re-gift
the same. He'd forgotten that he'd had this voucher that
we'd got him last year. I only stumbled across it.
It was fate, I have to say. I picked up
a novel beside the bed.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
Fate or laziness?
Speaker 4 (06:27):
No.
Speaker 6 (06:28):
It was just like it just happened, jumped out at
me from the book. It's like, what is this? It
was last year's card. And, oh, that's right, we got
him that voucher.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
Oh, it's got no expiry date.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Guess what?
Speaker 4 (06:38):
He's forgotten about it, clearly.
Speaker 7 (06:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
That's fate.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Apparently, that's fate.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Good morning to Chris. Christian had an awesome Father's Day.
Phil would love laughs and conversation. Congratulations, Chris. I got
a new tea mug and some brand new essential oils.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
That is.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
No, no, it's a perfect day. Five out of five. Christian,
Father's Day 2026. Nicole has sent me a photo of
a garden with a deadly snake in it.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Already?
Speaker 2 (07:13):
Christian, we were out all day yesterday looking for this snake.
It's the start of the snake season. Now, Nicole, I
actually Googled snake season Australia.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
It started.
Speaker 5 (07:23):
Is snake season the same as magpie season?
Speaker 2 (07:25):
It starts in September. I didn't know there's a snake
season here. It runs from September to April.
Speaker 5 (07:30):
That's a pretty long season.
Speaker 4 (07:32):
As soon as it's warm, they come out of their
little hidey places.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
Well, in Melbourne, they'll be hiding at the moment. In Sydney, yeah,
no wonder. Nicole's in Balcombe Hills. That amazing weather last week,
the snakes have started. Melbourne, they won't be out for
another couple of weeks.
Speaker 7 (07:46):
I've heard reports as well of the first swoops of
the season from the magpies.
Speaker 5 (07:49):
So we're getting attacked from the skies.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
And from the ground.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
Listen, magpies are not frightening.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
Snakes, listen, snakes are deadly. No one is not here
today because of a magpie. People aren't here today because
of snakes.
Speaker 5 (08:02):
They've got very sharp beaks and they come in at pace.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
Okay, hands up on this team. Anyone been swooped?
Speaker 6 (08:09):
Yes.
Speaker 8 (08:09):
Sounds terrifying.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Loads of you have. I think it's people the birds
don't like. I think you give off bad energy. By
the way, talking.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Of which, this company has branded all notepads. Have you
seen this?
Speaker 2 (08:23):
Oh, no, I don't like that. Oh, yeah. Nothing more
corporate than a notepad telling me everything is energy.
Speaker 7 (08:31):
I think I know what they have this fake Albert
Einstein quote. It says everything is energy and that's all
there is to it. And he's never said that.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
No, he didn't.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
No, even I looked it up. It's not for him.
Tesla said something like this. See, you know what it is.
There's nothing more corporate and fake. You know, we talk
about AI slop. Corporate slop is just as bad. It's
snake season. Feed it to the snakes.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
The Christian O'Connell Show.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
Go on.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
Podcast.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
I cannot believe I've only just found out after eight
years of living in Australia, there is a snake season here.
We need to now make this week snake week. Oh, yes.
Do you all, I just presume before I move to
that every Australian would have like loads of snake stories.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Not all of you do.
Speaker 5 (09:11):
No, you know, I've never seen one probably in the wild.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
See, I have twice.
Speaker 7 (09:17):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
You did.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
Almost trod on a brown snake.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
Oh, my God. Yeah, I know. It does something to
you when you see a snake, there's something primal. that
acts up, and I've never had a reaction since.
Speaker 5 (09:28):
What was it like?
Speaker 3 (09:28):
Ah!
Speaker 1 (09:29):
No, it was my froze.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
You just know you're in a prison, it's something incredibly
powerful and life-ending. And the only other thing I've had
like that is some of Pat's stories. You know when
you think, this could be the end of me.
Speaker 5 (09:42):
You froze.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
I froze.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
I don't know whether we were in the beginning. The
middle or the end. But the end is nice.
Speaker 5 (09:48):
It's not going to be a quick death.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
Is it my time, Lord?
Speaker 1 (09:50):
Is it my time, Lord?
Speaker 6 (09:51):
Slow, painful death. Growing up in the country, it was
quite commonplace to have snakes.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
Yeah, you must have done right.
Speaker 4 (09:58):
Yeah, Pete, you would have had this.
Speaker 5 (09:59):
Yeah, yeah, 100%.
Speaker 10 (10:00):
We had so many snakes growing up. But we used
to make cubby houses in the hay bales and stuff.
And I reckon I was about 11. And I remember my.
Arm being somewhere and I was thinking, oh, that's really
silky hay.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
It wasn't.
Speaker 8 (10:12):
It was a snake. And I never played in the
hay bales again as a kid.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
I was in this gift shop yesterday and they had
these different scented candles, right? And, of course, I bought
one of them. One of them was hay. Who's gone? Oh,
if only hay was a candle.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
And I smelt it and was like, this ain't hay.
It's just a smell.
Speaker 5 (10:33):
Yeah, what does hay, does hay have a smell?
Speaker 1 (10:35):
It does have like a damp smell.
Speaker 7 (10:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (10:38):
Not a nice smell.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
No, you don't want your house filled with hay, a
hay aroma, do you?
Speaker 4 (10:42):
Especially not spring season.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
Anyway, snake season begins today. We had birdweed the other week,
snake week. All right, it's the time of the time, Wister,
because Father's Day yesterday, we were doing dad movies on Friday.
For the best one we get during the next 10 minutes,
$ 250 to spend on flowers for everyone. Say hello to
Spring with farm fresh flowers from flowersforeveryone.com.au. Some of the
(11:05):
girls from Friday. Scott had cool bunnings. Tim had taken
to bunnings. Can you pick up the theme now? Nathan had, no,
not bunnings one. Up in jar, please, dad.
Speaker 5 (11:16):
I like that.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
The winners, there were two winners. Dads who stare at cannons.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
You had to be there Friday.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
You had to be there Friday.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
Get the podcast, okay? And big mamas, I look after
the outside of the house, not the inside.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
That's still good.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
All right, dad movies.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
The dad wears New Balance.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
Gold.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
We love New Balance.
Speaker 5 (11:37):
New Balance and sketches.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Lawn of the Dead.
Speaker 5 (11:41):
Gold.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
Mitre 10 things I hate about you. Silver. Silver. And
turn the bloody Friday.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
Night lights off.
Speaker 5 (11:48):
You are always saying that.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
Rio, dad movies, what have you got?
Speaker 7 (11:54):
James Bond got some undies and a singlet for Father's Day.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
Oh, did he?
Speaker 5 (11:58):
He's James Bonds.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
No, that's good. No, that's good. That's gold.
Speaker 5 (12:04):
Ryobi won Kenobi.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
Oh, also very good.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Gold.
Speaker 5 (12:08):
And ask your mother from the train. Go ask your mother.
That's all I say, that.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
Okay, no, two golds is good.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
Two golds is good in a month. All right, what
have you got then?
Speaker 2 (12:17):
Dad movies? Text them in.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
We'll mark them next.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
Thanks to Nicole in Balcombe Hills. Snake season is here,
and now this week on the show, it's snake week.
I've just, I don't know why I did this, started
Googling most deadliest snakes of Australia, and I'm never going
to sleep again.
Speaker 5 (12:35):
Why would you do that?
Speaker 1 (12:36):
Do you guys know of the coastal Taipan?
Speaker 2 (12:40):
The inland Taipan is one of the deadliest snakes in
the world. I think that's found in Africa. The coastal
Taipan is a snake that's here in Australia. It is
fatal 80% of the times.
Speaker 5 (12:52):
That doesn't sound good.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
No, it doesn't sound good at all.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
That's the definition of not sounding good is 80% chance
of death.
Speaker 7 (12:59):
Sorry, Rio.
Speaker 9 (13:00):
No, you go.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
I was going to say that African one stands up
on its tail.
Speaker 5 (13:05):
I've seen a documentary on it.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
I think that might have been a cartoon you've seen
with the old snake charmers. It's not appropriate in today's
day and age as well. You just got cancelled.
Speaker 4 (13:12):
I've seen a documentary on it. The thing stands up
on its tail, so it's vertical. It's terrifying.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
They do rear up, though, don't they, some snakes? The cobra.
The cobra.
Speaker 5 (13:22):
That's why you always need to have a mongoose with you.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
Yes, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
Or a recorder.
Speaker 5 (13:27):
Or a recorder.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
Snake charm. I always have one in my backpack. Where
were we?
Speaker 1 (13:34):
Dad movies, that's right. Not Caddyshack, Daddyshack.
Speaker 5 (13:37):
Gold plus.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
Popgun. Silver.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Popgun's great. What about that? Poppenheimer. Silver plus. Superdad.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
Bronze. Christian, here's a tiger snake I saw over the
weekend when I was playing golf. Good lordy. Snake week.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
There's no such thing as ghosts, Buster.
Speaker 5 (13:58):
Silver plus.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Shed Poet Society.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
Gold.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
That's good. Well done, Leroy.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Zach and Miri found that's pornos.
Speaker 5 (14:07):
Gold.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
Could have been looking after them for somebody, yeah?
Speaker 3 (14:11):
Stop.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
Move on.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
It's a dad, dad, dad world.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
Silver.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
DIY Tanic.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
Gold.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
The Last of the Moahicans.
Speaker 5 (14:21):
Oh, that's very good.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
Gold.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
Dawn of the Shed.
Speaker 5 (14:24):
Silver.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Star Wars The Far Awakens.
Speaker 5 (14:28):
Bronze for funny.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
A grown man sent that in. A grown man thought
about that, typed it out, check it for spelling, click send,
job done. That man deserves flowers. Horton here said, who
used my shaver so far? All right, who is winning
the $ 250 worth of flowers?
Speaker 1 (14:51):
Thanks to flowers for everyone.
Speaker 5 (14:53):
Daddy Shaq.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
Daddy Shaq, well done. Tim, you're today's winner. Branding time
waits at 8.30 this morning. We're looking for allergy songs.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
Every Monday on the show, we ask you to tell
us about your weekend.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
Rate your weekend. Out of five, we will accept half
points as well. Intern Pete, good morning. How was your weekend?
Speaker 3 (15:13):
Good morning.
Speaker 10 (15:14):
I'm going a full four out of five with only
one minus point this week, but I want to do
a bit of a points of clarification.
Speaker 8 (15:20):
I do get excited. when Sydney has a great win
on the weekend.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
That was some win for the club, blimey.
Speaker 10 (15:27):
I've been getting some messages from friends and family going,
do you not support the Geelong Cats anymore? And I say, no, no, no,
I absolutely 100% support the Geelong Cats, but I get
behind the city that I live in, you know, sometimes.
Speaker 8 (15:38):
So I am behind Sydney in.
Speaker 10 (15:40):
A soft spot, but how good was the Cats on
Friday night who beat my father's team?
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Is anyone confused now?
Speaker 5 (15:45):
It's less clear than before the clarification.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
Oh, what?
Speaker 1 (15:49):
But it is finals fever now, isn't it?
Speaker 2 (15:51):
For both the sporting codes of Australia it is finals
fever now.
Speaker 8 (15:55):
Sorry, I support the Cats.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
All I've got from this is Pete's got a soft spot.
I don't know what he means.
Speaker 8 (16:00):
Okay, I support Geelong, but I have a soft spot
for Sydney.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
I'm not being funny, but why do we need to
know this?
Speaker 1 (16:06):
What's pertinent about any of it?
Speaker 2 (16:08):
Because everyone is starting to think that I've... I don't
work in human resources and I need to update your
employment records.
Speaker 10 (16:12):
Because everyone thinks now because I go to so many
Sydney games that I support the.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
Who is everyone?
Speaker 9 (16:16):
Oh, I'll just.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
You sound cray-cray. Okay, sorry, just my brother and sister.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
Even more than normal. It's Cray Cray Monday.
Speaker 5 (16:22):
I know what you're all thinking.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
Can I just turn this into a press conference?
Speaker 3 (16:27):
No, no, no.
Speaker 8 (16:28):
It was a four out of five.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
There have been a lot of allegations.
Speaker 10 (16:32):
A four out of five because I was supposed to
go to the actual Swans game at the SCG. Don't
want to get myself confused here. I was supposed to
go to the game, but unfortunately, my friend who has
the tickets, he has the members' tickets.
Speaker 8 (16:48):
I think they're... I think they have the cheek.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
I'm going to start playing this right when you start
to go walkabouts in a conversation, which is what's happening
right now. Oh, dear.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
Am I not being clear?
Speaker 8 (16:59):
My apologies. Let me just start again.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
No, no, no. No, no, I actually broke out.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
In a cold sweat.
Speaker 5 (17:06):
You're sweaty, I'm sweaty.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
Anyway.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
Five out of five weekend.
Speaker 10 (17:09):
Yeah, this is a bad build-up to a bad story, really,
to be fair. We got to the gate and our
tickets did not work at all, so we couldn't go.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
Into the game. The club knew.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
The club knew. Oh, bloody hell, I forgot he's one
of our friends. No, I know.
Speaker 1 (17:19):
Jam the turnstiles. Jam the turnstiles.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
Where's that magic button?
Speaker 5 (17:23):
We need their button. You know what? Anywho, it was
a great game.
Speaker 7 (17:28):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
That's it.
Speaker 5 (17:29):
Don't worry about it.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
Wonderful.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
Ray, how was your weekend? How was seeing your dad yesterday?
Speaker 5 (17:34):
It was awesome.
Speaker 7 (17:35):
I would say we had a five-star Father's Day yesterday.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
Brilliant.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
We are.
Speaker 5 (17:39):
So Dad loves seafood. In the morning, we headed out.
Speaker 7 (17:41):
There's this famous seafood place in Botany near my parents,
and Dad goes.
Speaker 5 (17:44):
Make sure you get there early. There's going to be
a big Father's Day rush.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
What time's early there, then?
Speaker 1 (17:49):
Well, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (17:49):
Mum said, it's Father's Day. It's not Christmas.
Speaker 7 (17:52):
I think we'll be fine. And we get there at 9am.
It's a ghost town. There's no one there getting stuck
on Father's Day.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
Anyone else notice it was a ghost town yesterday everywhere?
Speaker 1 (18:00):
It was just really quiet everywhere.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (18:03):
Even cafes around... I was like, oh, they'll be bustling.
It'll be impossible to get a place. Crickets.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
There was no one there.
Speaker 5 (18:09):
I don't know.
Speaker 7 (18:10):
We went to a Westfield and there were dads just
doing the shopping at Coles, like heaps of dads just
sort of doing the weekly shop. But later in the day,
dad's got these old cost speakers, these big ones.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
About hip height. Like her floor speakers? Yeah, floor speakers. See,
Dad's no. Dad see Dad. Floor speakers?
Speaker 5 (18:29):
He's had them since 1970.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (18:30):
And he's been keeping them in the attic.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
Are they like wood-panelled? Yeah, beautiful wood-panelled speakers. I bet
they sound amazing.
Speaker 5 (18:36):
Well, that was the problem.
Speaker 7 (18:37):
We had to try and restore them and try to
get them back working again.
Speaker 5 (18:40):
Are they valves?
Speaker 1 (18:44):
Give me your dad's number.
Speaker 2 (18:45):
Give me your dad's number. Dad talk. New podcast. It's
me just chatting to Dad. It's over a fence.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
Are those valve speakers?
Speaker 2 (18:53):
They're paneled.
Speaker 5 (18:54):
Passive speakers? Does that mean anything? I don't know. Anyway,
we had to buy an amp. We hooked it all up.
Speaker 7 (19:00):
After about two hours of, you know, messing around, we
finally got them to work and we had a little
dad Coachella set list where dad was.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
On the decks.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
What was he doing? Fred again.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
Dad again. He was in the mix. In a boiler
house session, was he?
Speaker 5 (19:13):
Obviously a lot of, not really your classic party songs.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
He strikes me as a steampunk fan.
Speaker 5 (19:18):
It was Bob Dylan, a lot of Graham Bonnet. It's
all over now, baby blue. A lot of eagles, a
lot of credence.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
Oh, it sounds brilliant.
Speaker 5 (19:28):
And we were just in the sun dancing along.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
Oh, my God, what a magical day. Your dad would
have loved that.
Speaker 7 (19:33):
Yeah, it was really special, especially with Dad in Sydney and,
you know, we're not always in Sydney, so that was
lovely to spend some time with him.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
And is he a Cats fan or a Swans fan?
Speaker 5 (19:40):
No, that's the thing. Everyone thinks he's a Cats fan.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
If you're calling the show today, can you just let
us know before you get on air?
Speaker 1 (19:45):
Just let us know.
Speaker 5 (19:46):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (19:48):
That's enough for today, Pete. Pick it up tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
Christian, rate my weekend. I'm a five out of five.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
I got to meet the amazing Rio on Friday. on
a walk in Sydney please see if he remembers me
Courtney I do remember you yes well done.
Speaker 7 (20:05):
I was at the Opera House just having a lovely
walk home from the pub and I got a tap
on the shoulder from Courtney and her friend they said
they loved the show.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
I met some lovely listeners on Saturday morning a guy
called Jonathan and his wife Tracy with no E she
must have told me that 57 times And Jonathan said
this to me. I actually wrote it into my phone.
You're the funniest guys on the dial at the moment.
I mean, Jonathan, why do we have to just at
that moment? Why not just on the dial?
Speaker 1 (20:32):
End it there, buddy.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
I'm happy. You've given me the compliment. At the moment,
his wife then nudges him. At the moment. At the moment.
But there could be some new shows coming on the
Kiss Network that I will be checking out.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
And then I will report back. Jonathan and Tracy, no E.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
Christian, the other thing as well, I met a lovely guy,
my wife and I were having breakfast after I popped
into Signs for Copies of my book. He almost took
him Friday. He was going to go to this independent
bookshop called Farrell's. And it wasn't a signing. I was
just signing some that I had bought. But bless, there
were a load of listeners waiting for me.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
Yeah, I know.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
There's one lovely old woman who'd been hanging around for
a couple of hours. And because I hadn't given her time,
because I was just there to sign the copies and go,
she'd been wandering around the street. She was almost blue.
Some of the age of some of those listeners, you know,
they're one winter away from the ground.
Speaker 1 (21:24):
But it was lovely seeing them. It was lovely seeing them.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
I also met this lovely guy who had a beautiful
German shepherd dog. A lovely listener called Ryan. He had
this stunning shepherd dog called Snoop. And Ryan, it was stunning. Really, really,
you know, so you see some German shepherd dogs, they're good-looking,
handsome dogs. Regal, I would say, but yeah. And they
stand up on the high leads if you play them
(21:49):
a little flutes on. Anyway, he had some great photos
on his phone of his dog. He'd had them done professionally. Oh,
like a wedding photo. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (21:59):
I love that.
Speaker 5 (22:00):
That's awesome.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
That is the sort of thing that producer Caitlin would
have done, isn't it?
Speaker 7 (22:03):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (22:03):
Have you had that done yet?
Speaker 2 (22:05):
I actually have. Rio said things bogans love to do.
Get professional photos done of pets.
Speaker 5 (22:14):
Wait, wait, wait, wait.
Speaker 9 (22:15):
One of my friends is a photographer and she said,
would you like to do some photos? So we did
some family photos with Henry.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
When you say family photos, what do you mean?
Speaker 9 (22:25):
Well, my wife, me and Henry, we just sat around
the house and did some nice photos in different areas
of the house.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
Sat around, like doing what, the crossword?
Speaker 1 (22:32):
Doing the Saturday quiz together?
Speaker 9 (22:34):
He's actually very handsome and he's a very good boy.
Speaker 4 (22:36):
He loves the camera.
Speaker 3 (22:37):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
There are certain people in life who get confused between
what's a pet and what's a human.
Speaker 9 (22:47):
Actually, I know he's my dog, but he's very handsome
because one time we were at the park and there
was a photographer there as well and he said, can
I please take a photo of your dog?
Speaker 2 (22:55):
Sorry, do you know what that is? That's a pickup line.
That guy is a creep.
Speaker 5 (22:59):
He didn't see your wife.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
No, no, seriously.
Speaker 2 (23:01):
That guy, if my wife kicked me out, that's the
sort of thing you'd see me hang around dog parks
as a photographer.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
No, that guy does a radio show and he's a creep.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
The Christian O'Connell Show.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
Go on.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
Podcast.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
Christian, five out of five weekend for me. This is
for our listener, Shane. Went to see Disney Cars at
the cinema with my now late teenage boys. This movie
always reminds me of the fun memories I had with
them when they were just wee tackers watching the movie
three times a day and playing with all the cars.
Tipped off an awesome home-cooked lamb roast with, oh my word,
(23:38):
Yorkshire pudding. um christian my weekend also 505 tennis on
saturday morning followed by dirt the beach soaking up the
sun obviously you're uh texting from sydney um before being
blown away by the storm that just came out of
nowhere uh but nothing can bring me down the swans
defied the odds and won against brisbane incredible scenes that's
(23:58):
from uh emma jennifer rate my weekend um Four out
of five. Swans, one.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
South Sydney, one.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
Glory, glory. New bed delivered if the instructions were included.
Would have been five out of five. That'd be a
fun week. Putting together a flatback bed with zero instructions.
Though I'd like to think with a bed, it's pretty beddy.
You know, you've got the slats, the supporting bits, the headboard.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
There's not many bits where you're going to, which bit
is this?
Speaker 2 (24:26):
Is this a pillow? No.
Speaker 1 (24:29):
Christian, talk about professional photos for dogs.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
We want a professional photo shoot, including a huge print,
but we were the suckers.
Speaker 1 (24:34):
We paid for the whole album. It's a whole thing.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
It's a free photo session. You're under no obligation. You
see the photos. You pay for the album.
Speaker 1 (24:45):
Do you know what?
Speaker 2 (24:46):
I think we should do a competition for Australia's fittest pets.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
We love our pets. Someone who's got a dog and
a cat.
Speaker 2 (24:54):
People have Some kind of, they just are very proud
of how they look.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
We should do, there's two categories. Fit and fugly.
Speaker 6 (25:03):
No.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
Some of them are, no, no, no, you still love
a fugly pet. I've had them, I've had various fugly
pets over the years. Some English dogs have got terrible
teeth like the humans. And so, but you still love
them the same.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
Fit or fugly.
Speaker 5 (25:16):
They've got character.
Speaker 2 (25:17):
We'll have both.
Speaker 1 (25:19):
Because I know that people.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
Listen right now, like, oh, we should enter, I like,
it's going to break Caitlin's heart, but my dog Reggie,
is better looking than Henry.
Speaker 3 (25:27):
Oh, that'd be cool.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
Happy to put it to the public to vote.
Speaker 2 (25:31):
Okay. You give me the best vote you've got.
Speaker 8 (25:34):
Side by side.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
Side by side.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
No names.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
No names. Don't tell anyone who is who. Henry will
be a very sad runner-up.
Speaker 8 (25:41):
Absolutely not.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
No, no, no.
Speaker 4 (25:42):
He's the most handsome dog to have ever existed.
Speaker 1 (25:44):
Sorry, you can't even speak.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
Say that again. Say that again.
Speaker 8 (25:48):
What did you say?
Speaker 2 (25:50):
No, Reggie will smash him. I'll tell you who actually
will be the fittest pet in the world.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
My cat, Larry.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
No, that is a handsome beast. Get out of it!
That's his breed. That's his breed. That tuna's got a
lot of hidden calories, Rio. He is the Brad Pitt.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
Of the cat world.
Speaker 5 (26:13):
Not Brad Pitt in Fight Club.
Speaker 1 (26:16):
It is on Australia's fittest and fugliest pet.
Speaker 3 (26:20):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
Christian, my four-year-old and I argue whenever we hear you
play All-Star Smash Mouth and he gets to the line,
only shooting stars break the mould. Mr. Four-year-old is adamant
that it's only shooting stars weight the mould. Well, we'll
play it back next Monday for the Miss Heards. Thank
you very much, Kat. Christian, Powderfinger, I always hear, why
(26:47):
do you give up on me so soup?
Speaker 1 (26:49):
All right, okay.
Speaker 2 (26:50):
Two separate people have texted me about that miss here. Oh,
that's so strange.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
That's 702-457-Stefano.
Speaker 2 (26:58):
Wish you well, Bonifani. Instead of don't give up on
me so soon, all I hear is don't give up
on me and miso soup.
Speaker 5 (27:03):
Have we played it recently?
Speaker 1 (27:04):
What are the odds?
Speaker 2 (27:06):
All right, we've got a late to the party at
the home of all your emails. You can send us
an email about anything we've heard on the show. Nothing
we ever talk about gets left behind. You can pick
it up whenever you want. We call it late to
the party. A while ago, we talked about shortest times
in jobs. Glenn, shortest job I ever had was for
Ingham's Chicken. I lasted the length of the induction and
decided this was not for me and left. Katrina, I
(27:29):
was doing temp admin work and was sent to Parliament
House to wash dishes. I lasted 10 minutes. Johnny lasted
eight hours in a fish factory. It was a Friday
morning shift, so I got home, had a shower, went
to the pub.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
On the way to the pub, I realised I stank
of fish and quit.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
Tim.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
It's going to get in the way of my drinking.
Speaker 2 (27:50):
Ding, I lasted five minutes in a job. I decided
to move to Sydney and became a bus driver. Wait,
it was poor passengers. Did you just pull over and
just walk off the bus? I ended up getting myself lost.
Speaker 5 (28:02):
Not just yourself.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
How is that possible in this day and age?
Speaker 2 (28:06):
And the passengers, I called the bus company for a
driver to come out. This gets better. My directions got
him lost too. 45 minutes later, he found us and
I quit.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
It's the Christian O'Connell Show. Time for a brand new
Outward Time Waster. The change in the season means for
some of us, it is.
Allergy season. We're looking for your allergy songs. Up for
grabs for the best one. We've got a $ 500 Holy
Moly gift card.
Speaker 1 (28:44):
It's the wild side of mini golf.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
Experts warn that Australia faces a potentially difficult hay fever
season this year. Higher than average spring temperatures set to
accelerate pollen levels.
Speaker 1 (28:58):
Allergies are tipped to be the very worst mid-November.
Speaker 7 (29:01):
Can I give a shout out to all my fellow
hay fever sufferers out there?
Speaker 2 (29:04):
Why don't, thank you.
Speaker 5 (29:05):
Head over to Chemist Warehouse.
Speaker 7 (29:07):
What saved me last year was Nasonex and starting to
spray it two weeks before the peak of the season.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
Oh, right.
Speaker 2 (29:13):
I've heard of Nasonex.
Speaker 5 (29:15):
Yeah, it's great. I never used to spray before. I
always just had the oral tablets.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
Yeah, yeah, like Claritin and stuff like that.
Speaker 7 (29:20):
Yes, but for really bad hay fever, Nasonex absolutely saved
me last year, so I can't speak highly enough about it.
Speaker 2 (29:27):
Brilliant. All right, so allergy songs is what we're looking
for today. This will be a fun one. There's nothing
more fun than allergies. I'm really getting into it, you know?
Lady Gaga's got allergies, you know?
Speaker 1 (29:38):
Oh, poor old Stephanie. That's right. They call her behind
her back, sadly. Pollen face.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
My Pollen face and the old red eyes. It's not
my name.
Speaker 5 (29:51):
Gold.
Speaker 1 (29:52):
Saturday night hay fever.
Speaker 5 (29:54):

Speaker 5 (30:14):
MC Hammer also uses Claritime.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
Oh, does he? That's one of those baggy pockets, is it?
Speaker 5 (30:18):
He says, stop. Claritime.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
Oh, that's very good.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
Very good.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
Stop.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
Claritime's great. Gold plus.
Speaker 5 (30:29):
She's a sneezy lover.
Speaker 2 (30:31):
Oh, no.
Speaker 8 (30:32):
She's a sneezy lover.
Speaker 5 (30:35):
Totally, Pat. Thank you. Oh, get off it. I'm a
good singer. She was giving it a crack.
Speaker 4 (30:40):
Make to those reps tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (30:42):
You're right, actually. We'll be begging to hear you sing, Patsy.
What's that?
Speaker 1 (30:45):
Pete drops that one at 10 to 8. Hopefully he's forgotten. Oh,
he's still with us.
Speaker 5 (30:50):
Panicking. Betty Davis's watery eyes.
Speaker 2 (30:54):
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 5 (30:58):
And the itch, the itch, the itch is back.
Speaker 1 (31:02):
Elton John.
Speaker 2 (31:02):
Oh, Elton John.
Speaker 1 (31:03):
So the bitch is back.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
Sorry, sorry.
Speaker 1 (31:04):
I thought actually you were.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
Sneezing or something, trying to get the punchline out. But no,
there wasn't one, actually.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
All right, what have you got? Allergy songs. I can't
believe we're doing this.
Speaker 2 (31:17):
It's such an unpleasant thing for us allergy suffers, isn't it? Triggering. Yeah,
let's turn that suffering into laughter this morning. Allergy songs.
Text them in 0475031043. We should have been giving away
hay fever relief to the winner.
Speaker 5 (31:31):
Yes, but hey, the best hay fever relief Mini golf?
Speaker 2 (31:35):
You're quite right.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (31:37):
Swing and it's gone.
Speaker 3 (31:39):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
For the best time wasted this morning, $ 500 off to
Holy Goalie. Holy Goalie. Oh, Holy Goalie. I love Holy
Moly as well as Holy Goalie.
Speaker 5 (31:51):
You like to goalie. Cody.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
Oh, no. He tried to shoot me down there. What
a team of sharpshooters.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
Burn.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
Slay. As I was saying earlier, $ 500, holy moly gift card.
Speaker 5 (32:09):
Damn it.
Speaker 2 (32:13):
It's the wild side of mini golf, guys. All right,
so we're looking for your allergy songs. Another one by
the Dust Mites.
Speaker 5 (32:21):
Silver Plus.
Speaker 1 (32:22):
Ticket Sneezy. Go on.
Speaker 2 (32:27):

Speaker 1 (32:30):
You can't stop the snot. You can't stop the snot.
Very good, Nathan. All about that sneeze.
Speaker 7 (32:36):
Bronze.
Speaker 2 (32:37):
Not really.
Speaker 1 (32:38):
Sneeze days. Powder finger.
Speaker 5 (32:40):
Sneeze days.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
