This week on the Christian O'Connell Show, Christian and the team dive into the world of curling, the Winter Olympics, and the art of making hats cool again. They discuss the unique sport of curling, where athletes slide stones across the ice, and the team's fascination with the sport's quirky rules. They also tackle the challenge of making hats cool for teenagers, with Christian sharing his own experiences with his kids and inviting listeners to share their thoughts. Plus, they chat with Rebecca Gibney, the host of Millionaire Hot Seat, about her new role and her approach to the show.

iHeart podcasts. You can hear more Gold one I four
point three podcasts, playlist and listen live on the free
iHeart app. Got anything good?

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Hey, this is the Christian O'Connell show podcast.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
It's a chemist warehouse and save more money every year
on your regular medication with discount of prescriptions in every
store every day.

Speaker 4 (00:36):
Good morning, Parts, Good morning, Happy Friday, be.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
Friday Parts, Good morning, Alex, good morning. How's everything going
at the Winter Olympics? Have we won any gold yet?
We have not won any gold yet in Australia, although
the Brits are curling at the moment against the Czech Republic.
That is that's interesting is that is the only sport
that Team GB will win any goals or silver out.
So what we got four years ago we cleaned up

(00:59):
in that event. It is the oddest. It is the
oddest event you've ever seen. We sought on the TV
in the studio yesterday.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Rio.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Yeah, have you ever seen it before. It's a sort
of circle thing that's flung down an ice drink. Someone
throws it, Another guy's got a small broom and is
buffing up the ice in front of it, and then
some other mate then joins it comes at the end.
I don't even know what training you do for that?
Do you don't know what what Cardio's strength? Yeah, it's

(01:27):
obviously skills in it. But I'm just trying about, well,
how do you train for that?

Speaker 5 (01:31):
Great question? And why is England so good at it?

Speaker 1 (01:34):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:34):
Is it your long history of chimney? Sweet?

Speaker 1 (01:36):
I think it is. Actually I think it's the patron
saint of that sport is Dick Van Dyk. It's still
at play video. How dare Chris Martin make a ninety
nine year old man dance for him on camera? Well?

Speaker 5 (01:53):
Good luck, because you guys needed that here.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
It's our only chance of winning any medals as well.

Speaker 4 (01:58):
What is cooling all about? Though?

Speaker 1 (01:59):
Like?

Speaker 4 (01:59):
Are they grooming the ice?

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Has not be mentioned the files? Is it?

Speaker 2 (02:07):
Like?

Speaker 4 (02:07):
Is it to make the way for what do they call?
It's not a shuttlecock?

Speaker 1 (02:11):
What is the playing badminton? I know what you mean.
It's a massive, weighty looking thing.

Speaker 6 (02:20):
Make a hockey puck or something massive, smoother box and warmer?

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Yes, warming, so I guess it will then have a
different Yeah, you know that with bowls, you see how
they curl itess around so there's an art form to
how they're curling it. I guess that's what it's called curling.
It must be amazing to listen to radio lot this
where it's just a lot of dummies putting obvious stuff.

(02:44):
I just realized we've just wasted two minutes of national
radio airtime working out why the things called curling. To
circle back, it's curling. Maybe curling, guys, that's the headliner this.
What have you found out? What is it called that
large disc? A curlstone?

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Okay, it's a very medieval sounded thing, isn't it? Bring
me my curlstone?

Speaker 5 (03:06):
So heavy?

Speaker 1 (03:08):
Yes? All right, let's get into everyone's weekend plans.

Speaker 5 (03:13):
Said, Friday is fun.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Li here.

Speaker 5 (03:18):
Done to hang out with your friends. You've made it
through the week to.

Speaker 6 (03:26):
The bright side of the weekend.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
All right, tell us what is the bright side of
your weekend? What are you looking forward to this weekend?
You can text us oh four seven five three one
oh four three? Perhaps what are you up to this weekend?

Speaker 4 (03:40):
Just I'm looking forward to just a very down low homie. No, seriously,
real If only you knew we're back to school and woking.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
She didn't like that hey rio, she calls you out down.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
Down low, mister party boy.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
Just keeping on the down low ride. Yeah she is,
We got low low, low low.

Speaker 4 (04:00):
Seriously with the back to school this house.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Is you've gone back to school this week, have you?

Speaker 4 (04:05):
Well, it's busy. You know what it's like when you've
got a kid at school. It's just full on, it's full.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
They've had like two months off and suddenly.

Speaker 4 (04:14):
The back end and she's tired, and we just need
a nice quiet weekend. So I'm actually getting out in
the garden this weekend. I've got a job for the
husband in that.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
All right, So you're more like you're throwing him out
in the garden. I'm getting out in the garden on
a large umpire's chair, bossing my husband.

Speaker 4 (04:29):
We've both got to get out and use our muscles
because I want to rip up the garden bed that's
beside our driveway, and I actually want to replant it
with some hedge, which he will not like because he'll
have to trim it like he has to do.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
All the other thing. Sounds something you've never done anything
in the garden and you're like replants it with some.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
H No, I'm going to put some English box in there.
It'll look very nice once once it grows. So that
that's what we're doing this weekend. Good weather to get
out and how much.

Speaker 6 (04:53):
What percentage of work is is Chris doing? And what
is how much are you doing?

Speaker 4 (05:01):
I'll bring him a cold Chris.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
Chris on his hands and knees with one of those
those knaning boards. He has got whatever one from sexy Land.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Anyway, The Christian O'Connell show podcast.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Tell us about your weekend. What are you looking forward
to this weekend? What is the bright side of your weekend?
Good morning to King Eric. We call this listener King Eric.
He's got fourteen kids. I'm not making this up. It's
not a joke. He does actually have fourteen kids. I
think some of them sleep under the dining table. Erica, No,
you're listening. I've just got your message. Has that situation changed?

(05:36):
I mean, where do you house them all?

Speaker 5 (05:38):
I don't understand.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
Imagine the school run. You know when you see like
a presidential cavalcade where all the black tet TV's just arrived,
doors open and it's all moving very quickly. They must
have three I think they've got at least two big
him and his wife SUVs amazing.

Speaker 5 (05:56):
He would need free at.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
Least a torago.

Speaker 5 (05:59):
Yes, the cavalcade, I.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
Mean I find it overwhelming. With two kids, I can't
imagine seven times fourteen.

Speaker 5 (06:09):
That's more than they have disciples.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
It's almost a fe It's almost a flutty tea Christian.
We have our this is King Eric. We have our
first kid's birthday of the I mean the year must
be for you've got fourteen, it's one every couple of weeks.
It must be always a birthday cake on the go.
There's been half even is it just rebuilt? It reanimates
with Nora turning eight. Have a great birthday weekend, King Eric.

(06:36):
Good morning, Christian. I'm going to try and call through
four millionaire hot seat this morning to win the two
k from hospital. I've just had ankle surgery, but more
committed to the game and win the money than rest
and recovery. Good luck, Ria. What's the bright stud of
your weekend?

Speaker 6 (06:50):
I am heading up to Sydney for an engagement party
for my friend Maddie and it's one of the great
how did you meet stories you'll ever hear. Oh wow,
so she's Australian. He's Canadian. They met in Canada. Maddie
was there on a work trip. They went on one date,
a single date. She went back to a earlier he
stayed in Canada. They kept talking, just fell more and

(07:13):
more in love. Without seeing each other again, they decided
to move to London together. Like living together in London,
we thought they were completely insane.

Speaker 5 (07:25):
Maybe they were. Now they're getting married.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
What a great story. Long distance relationships must be so hard.

Speaker 6 (07:32):
They did that for a year before they moved to England,
and then this from one day from one day.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
So they would only would have spent a total of
a couple of hours together.

Speaker 6 (07:39):
Yeah, the second second date was in England when they.

Speaker 5 (07:42):
Moved in together.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
It's just hectic, isn't it. But then you're going to
be you're going to be getting to know someone once
you're married.

Speaker 5 (07:49):
Yes, yeah, well yeah, I guess I think you.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
Should always live with some before you get married to them,
until you live with someone you don't know someone.

Speaker 5 (07:57):
That's true, that's true.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
It's a lot living with someone. The marriage bit is doing,
but it's about living with someone, is the key bit.
Yeah yeah, wow, wee, what an insane story.

Speaker 6 (08:06):
Yeah, So that's that's today and it's the theme is
champagne and oysters.

Speaker 5 (08:10):
I'm very excited.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
That's so Sidney Champagne and oysters. Is that a designer
party for you? That's it. That's your two loves literally
love iceed to Corio champagne, Charlie. Because whenever you like
Arstown's weekend was you look, there was Instagram. Your weekend
was Yue in various places, drinking champagne and looking for

(08:32):
oysters on the hunt. And you've always owned shade on
Melbourne oysters. It's compared to Sydney one.

Speaker 5 (08:38):
That's true.

Speaker 6 (08:38):
I do find the oysters to be superior in Sydney.
Hence why I'm going all the way.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
And it's so relatable for our listeners right now, I'm
the banking Christian is paying your bills and also sending
you oysters.

Speaker 4 (08:50):
Why are Sydney oysters much better? Really?

Speaker 6 (08:53):
I think maybe we're closer to the ocean. I think
that it's a salinity.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
Thing you can get out of the ocean here.

Speaker 5 (09:00):
I'm not really.

Speaker 6 (09:01):
And they're a bit smaller too, oysters, Yeah, a bit saltier,
a bit maybe the water is more saline, happy be
more punch.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
This is hard to hear you you could create a
civil war right now. Happily, this show is about bringing
people together and I don't want on the end of
week three that were tearing them very biblical word this
asunder over the Oyster Wars of Australia. We've only just
healed since the Emy Wars. When checks the history notes

(09:30):
you lost and hopefully.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
Christian O'Connell's show All Right. Joining me now is the
host of Millionaire hot Seat. It is back, It's got
a new home, It's got a new hostess on Channel
ten at seven pm with the one and only Rebecca Gibney. Rebecca,
welcome to the show.

Speaker 7 (09:53):
Oh thanks for having me Christians now listen.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
You've done so many big shows over the years, you know,
and a lot of Australians around different generations have grown
up with you. This is something completely different. Tell us
about why you're doing it.

Speaker 7 (10:06):
I have no idea. Ask myself that question and all
the time, you know what, I turned sixty and I went,
I'm going to do things that I wouldn't normally say
yes to, only because I think at my age I'm
not afraid to fail spectacularly at whatever I put my
money into, so I didn't really think about it. My
initial reaction was no because it's so out of my wheelhouse.

(10:28):
And then it was actually my mum that said, Darling,
this is an opportunity for you to actually give back
to all those people that have supported you over the years,
and I went, sure, I'll give it a go.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
So it's kind of like a bucket list thing of
doing things completely different.

Speaker 7 (10:41):
Absolutely, I think there is something. When you get to
my age, you're a wee way off it. But when
you get to my age, you realize that, you know,
I may have twenty thirty, potentially forty years left. I
don't want to have regrets, so I don't want to
keep saying no because I'm afraid of something. It's just
not an option.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
So I said yes, and I'm being honest, Right, how
do you think you would get on? Did you go
all the way make your money? No?

Speaker 7 (11:01):
I don't think I could do it at all.

Speaker 8 (11:03):
You know.

Speaker 7 (11:03):
The thing is the other thing I've learned so much
there is general knowledge. By the end of the day,
I've had some questions and I've forgotten all of them.
I'm hoping we get to do a celebrity one where
we can invite people like yourself on and just see
how you go.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
I was on like the UK's biggest game show. They
did a quiz show and midway through it, the lady
fired a question at me, how many legs does a
duck have? I got it wrong. I just panicked under
the lights. I said four. It still gets played. Someone
said they were in America and they were doing dumbest

(11:36):
answers on quiz shows around the world and in the
top five was me of the world. That's right, Rebecca.
That's why I really fled to Australia to escape the
four legged duck. So Channel ten don't need to worry
that I'm taking down the house. I win nothing. Maybe
I get my parking validated by Channel ten. That's it.

(11:57):
You may not know this, but you've actually taken my job.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
I have not you have.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
I was in the running for this, right I did.
I did. You've cost me my swimming. We're not getting
that song. I told the kids. Bloody Gibney's got that. Paul.

Speaker 7 (12:12):
Oh, I'm so sorry.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
There's that. Whenever I see you on TV now I
start singing that song. It should have been me, but Rebecca,
they made they made the right choice. I'm so glad
your mum's still giving you advice as well.

Speaker 7 (12:26):
Absolutely, She's like, darling, all these people have followed your career,
a lot of them since you know, you started off
and in your teens, and she said, NAT's chance for
you to give back to them for an all bliss.
So yeah, and it's.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
True you and your mom need to do a TV show,
maybe some sort of right, I've thought about it. No,
you need to go round properly thank the Australians that
have made you giveney. You need to go around knocking
their doors with your mum and say thank you. Givney
gives back tonight on ten.

Speaker 7 (12:55):
That's not a bad idea.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
You can have it. You took my job, why don't
you take another one, Rebecca.

Speaker 7 (13:00):
We could do it together. Christian, you need to forget it.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
Forget it, forget if they brushed me out TV history
in this country, just a young kid trying to get break. Hey, listen,
you don't need good luck with it. I think it's
a great it's a great quiz show and you're going
to make it an even bigger success. Thank you very much, Rebecca.
Lovely to meet you and chat to you. Take care
and you take my job. You took my job. I've

(13:25):
got no swimming pool.

Speaker 2 (13:27):

So what have you done to your ankle? Have you've

Or I just had a noteball injury and had to
get a plate.

Speaker 9 (14:51):

Speaker 7 (14:56):

Speaker 1 (14:57):
Now, obviously you're in a private room or are you
an award And there's other people that are trying to
sleep and suddenly old mate Leah is calling a radio

hospital bed in Newcastle. Last night's Millionaire hot Seat asked
this question. Get this right? You win one thousand dollars
right away. The national flag of the UK is commonly
known by what name? Is it a United John? B,

(15:35):
Union Jack, C, Unified Jerry or d Uncle Jock?

Speaker 9 (15:41):
Is the Union Jack?

Speaker 1 (15:42):
Wow? John? An instant? One thousand dollars is yours. Maybe
we should do a quiz where you have to still
be in bed, the lying down quiz. You play from
bed the bed quiz. All right, So let's try and
win you another thousand dollars now, so you're chosen specialist

(16:03):
subject Leah in the hospital.

Speaker 7 (16:04):
Bed is sparkills in?

Speaker 1 (16:10):
All right? Want to be Let's see if we can
win you another thousand dollars. It's a tough question. How
many members were in the Spice Girls?

Speaker 7 (16:20):
Five?

Speaker 1 (16:21):
Got no hesitation? This is easiest down quiz and the radio?
Is that so good?

Speaker 7 (16:27):
Thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
It's obvious now why children didn't pick me and went
forgive me instead. This is how I could have earned
it ten burning through your cash and bonus points. Can
you name the five Spice Girls?

Speaker 10 (16:43):
Baby, posh, sporty, scary and ginger.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
That's it, well done, Hey, Leah, thank you very much
for playing. I hope the ankle heals very well. I
hear that you're due to be discharged today, but you're
begging them to keep you in for another day because
you're hiding from me three year old and your six
year old.

Speaker 9 (17:00):
I'm not going home and I so forced.

Speaker 1 (17:04):
Why don't you just throw yourself out of the bed
and to the other ankle? Oh me have fallen a again? Done?
The other one need another plate up? See Lea. I
hope you recover. Thank you very much for giving the
show ago and enjoy your weekend there.

Speaker 7 (17:16):
Thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
Well.

Speaker 2 (17:18):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
Christian just tuned in. Have you done your recommendations yet?
Take it easy, all right. If you put me under
pressure getting stuff done on a to do list or something,
we're doing it in ten minutes time. We're getting ready
for that. Don't worry, all right, we do a thing
on the show. We love getting your emails, obviously. We
love hearing your voices and your calls and your text
with your stories and your time wastes. You can also
email me directly, comes straight to my inbox, Christian at

(17:45):
christiano'connell dot com dot au. We call your emails late
till a party late.

Speaker 10 (17:55):
Now.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
When you're listening to the show live, often you've got
stuff going on in your lives. You're trying to get somewhere,
maybe you're doing the school run. You haven't got time
to call in. You can email nothing. You ever hear
us chuntering on about on the show, gets left compliant
behind you and pick it up whenever you want. Shelley's
emailed me here, Christian. My boys were laughing on the
way to school. This week we will listening to your show.
Just after I dropped them off, there was an advert

(18:17):
about slip Slump Slap Voice by you. My boys grew
up wearing hats, but for some reason, once they got
to high school they stopped. They refused to wear hats
to school. Please, please, please, Christian, can you think of
some ways to make hats cooled again? I think it's
so important to be some smart it is, they always were,
but something about being a teenenager deters them. This is

(18:38):
an invitation, guys, isn't it a challenge? How do we
make hats cool to teenagers? Baseball caps?

Speaker 2 (18:46):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (18:46):
Yes, so what needs to be a decent brim on it?

Speaker 5 (18:49):
Doesn't it baseball cats cool anymore? That's what I'm worried about.
A week past?

Speaker 6 (18:54):
Are we now in like the bucket hat era? Like Oasis?

Speaker 1 (18:58):
You're right, Actually, bucket hats. Maybe that's the way forward.

Speaker 4 (19:02):
Make them telling Terry twel Rock, Terry telling hair, love
them deary dowling hair.

Speaker 1 (19:08):
What a lovely fabric that was as a kid, Terry Towning.
Now something you see draped over furniture and called bookley.

Speaker 5 (19:16):
No, that's different.

Speaker 1 (19:18):
What is how would you describe pretend I'm an alien
I've just landed.

Speaker 4 (19:21):
Is a bit classier, isn't it. It's a different texture
as well.

Speaker 6 (19:25):
Has got those little balls, But then so did Terry Towning.

Speaker 1 (19:30):
It was tell it, tell it had it was a
baldy texture.

Speaker 5 (19:38):
I think it's more of a text.

Speaker 1 (19:40):
I would call it light balls. Anyway, we now need
to start thinking, Okay, how do we make hats caller
to teenagers? I've had so many messages after what we
talked about yesterday on the show. I had to do
a Q and A for a newspaper and they answer
you that classic question we were asking you yesterday. You
can have three famous people? Did her alive round for dinner?

(20:01):
Who's coming? Christian Natalie? This is Dawn French, Robin Williams,
Dr Carl Oh wow, okay, Crystal, Marry Monroe, Tom Hardy,
he's my hall pass and and and a Berlin very
high up. Ok yeah, Ane Berlin. Freddie Mercury was number one,
Peter Brock was number two, and then Anne Berlin was

(20:23):
on a lot of list. Sally Sandra Bullocks, who's that.

Speaker 5 (20:29):
Sounds like a dregs name?

Speaker 1 (20:31):
And now you are the star of Tonight's cabaret, Sdra Bullocks,
sache Away Sundra Bullocks, that, Matt Damon and Rose Byrne.
That's a good line up, Rachel Michelle Obama, Princess Diana
and Taylor Swift, Lisa Graham Norton. Graham Norton would be

(20:52):
a great, great one. Billy Connolly, yeah, and Bette Midler.
And then I had an email from someone, Christian, why
don't you do it again next week, but with fictional
characters I love? And first of all, next week, let's
do let's do TV first and then movie straight away.
I can ready off the top of the head, tell
you mind for fictional couacters from TV shows. Tony Soprano,
Oh yeah, Ted Lasso and Coach Taylor from Friday Night Lights.

(21:18):
So I've got two big hearted coaches. And then I've
got to surprise right all right? So, uh, this is
your weekend homework listeners, fictional characters from TV shows. You'll
now have three of them. Who's coming around to yours
And as always for your emails, Christian at Christian O'Connell
dot com dot au n Yes, Andy, our recommendations coming

(21:39):
up next.

Speaker 2 (21:40):

four seventy five three one oh four three, Patsy, what
are you enjoying at the moment.

Speaker 4 (21:57):
Dearest gentle reader. The fourth series of Bridgeton has dropped.
It is Catney for women.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
The Globe absolutely loves it. What's the first two seasons
that I tapped out? But it's a big good show that,
isn't it?

Speaker 4 (22:11):
Beautifully made? Makes me want to go to Bath and
just have a look at all of the scenery. It
is just stunning.

Speaker 1 (22:19):
You know, Bath is a modern city but fictional period
ron but you.

Speaker 4 (22:23):
Can still see where they feel, not.

Speaker 1 (22:25):
Like that's not a snapshot of now. Bath is a
beautiful place. It's such a popular show, isn't it.

Speaker 4 (22:32):
Oh, it's it's just beautiful and it's just it's gorgeous.
And the real highlight for me for this season is
that it features an Australian born actress, which is really
really exciting year and her who is a Nighter graduate,
is in this series and she is the love interest
this time with Luke Thompson.

Speaker 1 (22:51):
Benedict and I mean, yeah, for Rio and I we're
not watching it. And I imagine a lot of men
listening right now. Not to make generalizations, but I think
it's probably true. You could be naming anyone. And who
plays bing being this year?

Speaker 5 (23:06):
How raunchy is it this year, Patsy.

Speaker 4 (23:08):
Well, we'll see. We'll see. They're doing a bit of
a Stranger Things approach in that they're dumping sections of
the series. So we've got the first four EP's and
the second part two drops Lady this month.

Speaker 1 (23:20):
About that that is to let the ladies cool off.
Let me just fan myself on those steamy scenes when
Lord wats his face, dropped his breeches.

Speaker 4 (23:32):
Smelling salts. It's a bit like that, but it's very clever,
and they're doing it with a lot of popular series now,
and it's just like, you know, it's like feeding your
addiction and then they snatch.

Speaker 1 (23:43):
It back and tell me, this is that just your show, Patsy,
Because for my wife it's like she doesn't want me around.
Oh no, no, no no, I for go and just do
something else because it's just her thing.

Speaker 4 (23:54):
Because half the.

Speaker 1 (23:54):
Time I think it's also because they're sexy she doesn't
want me to joke.

Speaker 4 (23:58):
Up to tea. I was sticking the love God saying
to me, what's going on? Who's he on with?

Speaker 5 (24:05):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (24:06):
But who is the who's narrating it? Who is later whistled?
And it's like, can you please just please just let me.

Speaker 1 (24:13):
Watch she's the lady that writes the blog?

Speaker 4 (24:15):
Yes that is, and it's revealed who she is.

Speaker 1 (24:20):
Scandal and they do that do they sort of the
great thing where they take pop songs and they have
like of it that is so good.

Speaker 4 (24:27):
Yeah, like with beautiful string quartets and you think like this, oh,
I know this song is an eat cheer and song,
or it's this, or it's very clever, it's brilliant. It
sort of pulls you back into the present when you're
sort of imagining this.

Speaker 11 (24:40):
God, we're in the pastance here would have thought fantastic everywhere,
no matter where you are, what decades you're in, your
century living tune?

Speaker 1 (24:52):
Is he not? He's omnipotent.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
He's the Christian O'Connell show podcast.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
That we can Why don't you balance it out? Watch
die Hard? Then Alan Rickman pays for his infidelity with
his life the movie Mike, that's a great idea. You're
restoring harmony in my marriage. See look Karma, he got
his wow wow, Like that's a genius idea about al

(25:23):
that I'm going to do that.

Speaker 5 (25:25):
High level husbanding.

Speaker 1 (25:27):
That wow, that is very very good Christian. When Passi
said that Bridgeton was doing a stranger things, then I
was hope she was going to say there are now
paranormal demons killing off characters. I will start watching us
or having relationships with the regulars. Glenn Webber, very very good.

(25:47):
We're doing We're doing Recommendation Station. We do this every Friday.
We share our recommendations what we're enjoying at the moment.
You shall you share yours as well. Michelle is watching
Nurse Jackie, which came a couple of years ago, which
is actually brilliance from the sopranos Edie Falco's show. It's
supposed to be incredible. That one a lot of awards. It's
on SBS if you want to see it here all right,

(26:08):
two things wants a TV show and one is I
think in my time here it's the first time I've
ever recommended an app. Oh wow, yeah, it's a TV
show on app. So yesterday evening. I took a big,
bold risk. Our twenty one year old has moved back
home for color. He's getting over her back surgery. And
so it was just me and her last night, and
I queued up a new show for us to watch,

(26:31):
and soon she sat down, she was like, no way,
I don't like sci fi frozen. On the screen was
this big new Marvel TV show called wonder Man. She
was like, plus, it's about what superhero guy. No, And
I said, it's got great reviews. It's supposed to be
a very unsuperhero TV show. Then I showed regarding review

(26:52):
giving it four out of five. She respects the guy
YARDI more sadly than and so we watched three episodes
straight through. It's that good. And let me tell you this,
not once in three episodes, the just twenty five minute
episodes did she pick up a phone. That is how
I judge it. That is huge. She didn't pick up

(27:14):
our phone once. And I heard it pinging, it was snapping,
it was chatting, it was gramming, it was talking. But
she did not reach for that phone. Look at you. Yeah, yeah,
there's gonna keep making that show guys there, said he.
Five more episodes and then the phone's going to take
her away from Papa. But yeah, wonder Man, what a
brilliant show. He's got superhero powers, but there's hardly any

(27:36):
of that in the show. He's trying to control them
because he wants to be a Hollywood actor. That's in
It's so good. I cannot recommend enough. That is wonder
Man on dizzy Plast And the other thing. I struggled
to type at the speed that I talk, So it's

(27:59):
a nightmare me sending an email. And recently it became
a real problem when I had to write a book,
and so I was getting so frustrated I was I
tried out a couple of different voice dictation apps, try
two or three. There are only about sixty to seventy
percent curate. There were these glitches, and so it's slowing
me down. And so then I found one that I
have actually used to write my book. The book that

(28:21):
I've written that comes out in August. The whole thing
was spoken out loud because it's a book about speaking
and storytelling. It felt right that it shouldn't be typed out.
I should speak out. So I would go for walks
a couple of hours and I'd be mumbling into my phone.
People must have thought it's crazy, dude. Much is he
doing the show? Is how he does?

Speaker 3 (28:41):
He?

Speaker 1 (28:41):
Walking it in? Phoning it in? He's walking in the show.
What is this? But anyway, I would dictate it. This
thing called Whisper is ninety nine point nine percent. It's incredible.
So I now use it for emails as well. You
just talk away and it comes out real time at
the speed you're talking.

Speaker 6 (28:57):
I wonder if it can do the Australian accent, which
we were a bit.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
Well, you have to, you have to. It gets you
to read various things at various volumes for like five
minutes beforehand on it learns. Yes, I'm sure it's being
uploaded to Chinese nefarious kind of organizations. I don't care.
I've got nothing remotely interesting in my life, just mumblings
of stuff I'm going to talk about on the radio show.

(29:22):
But yeah, Whisper. And because it's an app, there's no
e oh of.

Speaker 6 (29:27):
Course, no vowels in a square.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
Okay, Boomer wants to correctly spell out whisper no e
al rio. What's your recommendation station.

Speaker 6 (29:41):
Scotty James pipe Dreams on Netflix will get you so
fired up for the Winter Olympics, which start with already
started but ceremonies tomorrow. Scotty James is Australia's best metal hope.

Speaker 5 (29:52):
Now he is US.

Speaker 6 (29:54):
Skateboarder, snowboarding, halfpipe guy so so crazy that it's mentally
flying the courage or mad insane and he has been
in the Olympics since he was fifteen years old. He's
from Warren Diet which is the outer suburbs of Melbourne.

Speaker 5 (30:11):
Not exactly a.

Speaker 1 (30:12):
Hot, amazing story his family as well.

Speaker 6 (30:15):
It's amazing. And he's never won Olympic gold. So he's
the best in the world. He's won seven X Games,
he's been a world champion. He's coming into this as
the raging hot favorite.

Speaker 1 (30:24):
So Australia could win a gold. Yes, this is massive.

Speaker 6 (30:26):
And it's been hanging over him. He was a child prodigy,
like I said, he's been. This is his fifth Olympics
and he's never won a goal.

Speaker 5 (30:33):
It's his fifth one is he now? He is in
his thirties. This will be his last chance to ever
around him?

Speaker 1 (30:41):
I hope he gets gold. So when is he in action?

Speaker 6 (30:44):
They start on the eleventh and the finals on the
thirteenth and it is an incredible story.

Speaker 1 (30:49):
And he's in the half pipe.

Speaker 5 (30:50):
He's in the half pipe. His mum when he was
a kid.

Speaker 6 (30:53):
Every weekend you think Saturday sports bad, He's had his
mom had to drive him nine hours on a Friday
night to train on a Saturday.

Speaker 1 (31:02):
Where's the snowy half pipe?

Speaker 6 (31:04):
Ye yea somewhere like that, and then nine hours back
on Sunday, back to school on Monday.

Speaker 5 (31:10):
And they would do that all through winter.

Speaker 1 (31:12):
Oh what a story.

Speaker 5 (31:13):
Yeah, so I'm really rooting for them, I.

Speaker 6 (31:16):
Really And the documentary is called Scotty James Part Dreams.
It is on Netflix.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
Brilliant. Okay, we're gonna get the latest news and sport now,
and then we're back with the people's playlist.

Speaker 2 (31:26):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 1 (31:30):
Christian, you are one hundred percent correct. There's a message
I've never received. Wonder Man. We watched it the whole
season over the weekend study on you. It is brilliant,
it gets bad. It's very very good. Someone else is
saying here, wonder Man equals banger to Our beloved boss
has just got a download Whisper the voice to text app.

(31:50):
I was telling you about this very good, but she
obviously miss a bit. I said, it's got no e.
Be careful. She's just taking a screenshot of with the
It's some kind of AI app where you can make
Rome romance, shaking me a screenshort here Forbidden Love, Hot
for Daddy and single Daddy. A lot of people issues
having a great time over the weekend. Either out, they're

(32:12):
both good for you. All right, So let's get into
this week's People's Playlist is where you pick all the
music from eight Last Hour of Power is a giant jukebox.
We give you a theme, you pick the songs. Let's
find out what it is.

Speaker 12 (32:24):

people's names in and bonus if it's your name in
the song. So I'm guessing you've got one rio, Yes,
I have one loaded you lucky thing. There are songs
with well christ in the title and Christian in the title. Obviously,
many big religious bangers.

Speaker 5 (33:04):
Yes, it's a different segment than we do.

Speaker 1 (33:09):
Yeah. Yeah, it's one of our most popular hours. Actually,
Uh so you're going for Rio, of course, of course
it's right there.

Speaker 9 (33:19):
This is.

Speaker 5 (33:21):
Still counts.

Speaker 1 (33:22):
You can put yourself in the story, just as say
that whisper app pp for Daddy. At the time of
our Monday Shows, a new feature, we're doing a survey
of over two million songs. How's the real What are
the top five most common names in songs? But what
do we think is in the top five? Jesse, No,

(33:44):
that's because you know one song that's true. John is
number one, John John. I can't think of any songs
with John in the title.

Speaker 5 (33:54):
It's not a very romantic name, John.

Speaker 1 (33:56):
I can There's Nazi's one from Fine Young Cannibals called
Johnny Come Home Jannynny be Good, Johnny be Good. Those
there's quite a few. Actually, all right, Patsy, what song
are you going for?

Speaker 4 (34:06):
I'm going to go with Tuna and Ike and Proud
Merry Please.

Speaker 1 (34:12):
This is a Friday song.

Speaker 4 (34:15):
I think we can play it if you play it
in its pre version where it starts off.

Speaker 1 (34:18):
You need the slow ramping up, don't you, because then
when it when when it when she goes it's incredible.

Speaker 4 (34:25):
Had insured for like one million dollars.

Speaker 5 (34:29):

Speaker 5 (34:49):
The one of my daughters is called ev one of
my twin daughters.

So well done. This is a classic. Yeah, all right

Speaker 2 (35:35):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 12 (35:39):

music and.

Speaker 5 (35:44):
Just when it eh, somebody.

Speaker 1 (35:58):
The songs for Friday Show. The theme is songs with
the person's name in the title. Now I am unblessed
with an elite team, an elite team, but sometimes there's
a certain team member that moves very quickly.

Speaker 5 (36:15):
Yeah, brain so almost too fast.

Speaker 1 (36:17):
It's too fast. It's like you know when you're a kid,
you're running down the hill your legs like why that's
when you're te Kyla And every day between six and
nine when we were doing this last year, you know
the song four Non Blondes that got labeled up on
the phone system as four number ones. We've got a

was written as cass Rock the cast And then she's

hear this Aerosmith. Janey's got a gun, Jesse, Lots of
you want to hear this by Pearl Jam What the
song we all want to hear? You know, we've got

(38:05):
so many friends called Kaspar, named after the North African city.

people that aren't hearing this race, you know, people tuning
in for Adelaide or perthk. Someone's got a friend it's
called cas Caspar? Is it what the Caspar? Look at?
Misshard lyric Come on, this is a big Friday classic,

Don't be man now, Brendan, what are we going to play?
What do you fancy?

Speaker 2 (39:07):
A better bit of work?

Speaker 1 (39:12):
That's not the song? I love this song? What is
pop quiz? There's a movie Eddie Murphy is singing this
in a police cell.

Speaker 4 (39:28):
Oh it's Beverly Hills Cop.

Speaker 1 (39:30):
Is it? Is it betle Hills Cop? Or is it
training Places? I don't know.

Speaker 4 (39:35):
I think it's training places, isn't it?

Speaker 1 (39:36):
I think you might be right. It's one of those two.
Someone want I want to sing? Let's go to die now?
Good morning, Diane. What do you want to hear? Let's
just say nothing. See who goes first?

Speaker 5 (39:52):
The movie's forty eight hours.

Speaker 1 (39:54):
That's it, Diana? Yeah, Hello, Diane, Diane, I beings first.

bar cats and bar undody coles. We're so bad. Produce

(40:29):
your own show. Where are the robots starting that? I say,
bring on my humanoids? Dare we try another?

Speaker 5 (40:39):
One's give it a go?

Welcome to show. What would you love us to play
a big Friday song with a person's name in the title?
Oh my god, I would.

Speaker 7 (40:51):
Love it if you could play Delilah by Tom Jones.

Speaker 1 (40:54):
TJ on a Friday. This is a great song. It
always feels like it could have been used in a
chilling scene in a Taranty movie. Yes, there's something I
think it's a it's a menacing subtext anyway. Wow, great,
use the words subtext on the reado as well. Why

(41:15):
don't I turn the show into a dog's head talk subtext?
Tell you what it's gonna be? A mishmash's songs the
next hour, isn't it? I mean, obviously we're kicking off
with if I played that, so the boss will throw
that phone at me? A truss me.

Speaker 2 (41:34):
Christian O'Connell show, go on podcast.

Speaker 8 (41:38):
You've got bills you need to pay the make of
Christian pay them every day in be in utilities or
your haunsters bitinary fee.

Speaker 1 (41:53):
You've got bills, Let me pay your bill. Head to
the goold website dot com, dot au send me your bill.
I could be calling you and paying it. Let's call
Melanie now and pay off a five hundred dollars ambulance bill.
She puts in brackets. She's okay. Now, Hello, is that Melanie?

(42:16):
Oh yes, it is Medanie's Christian Corn from the Bank
of Christian.

Speaker 9 (42:21):

Speaker 7 (42:21):
Really yeah, Oh that's exciting.

Speaker 1 (42:25):
Well, I hope so we're the good news is I'm
paying off your ambulance bill.

Speaker 9 (42:28):
Oh my god, thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (42:31):
I hope everything's okay.

Speaker 9 (42:33):
Now she's getting there. She's back to training for cheerleading
and dance because we're going to America in April. So
she's going to a World's championship. So it's pretty.

Speaker 7 (42:44):
Important that she gets back.

Speaker 9 (42:46):
So lots of physio bills, lots of.

Speaker 7 (42:48):
That as well.

Speaker 1 (42:49):
Now, Melanie, who is the sheet we're talking about is
my daughter Dana. Dana so she's a dancer.

Speaker 9 (42:57):
Dancer, and cheerleader. She does wow cheerleading. Yeah, she's going
to worlds to Palm with her club. We're going over
to Florida in April.

Speaker 1 (43:07):
So she's still giving me able to compete. She will.

Speaker 9 (43:09):
Yeah, she's back to training. Now what comes in twelve weeks? Yeah,
it's everybody is bewildered as to how well she's done.
She's like me, I've done the similar things I've.

Speaker 1 (43:22):
Yourself.

Speaker 9 (43:22):
I actually yeah, former gymnasts and actually as an adult
now I compete at cheerleading and dance as well. So
almost forty nine and yeah, we're in the adult team.
We have our own ladies adult teams and we love it.

Speaker 1 (43:36):
Brilliant and so where do you compete around Australia doing
that money in national?

Speaker 9 (43:41):
So we're in Melbourne last year and on the Gold
Coast this year and then just in our state we
have state state competitions and then yeah, so.

Speaker 7 (43:50):
It's so exciting.

Speaker 9 (43:51):
Yeah, we love it.

Speaker 1 (43:52):
Hey, listen, good luck And so to tell me this,
then you're still doing like the flipping in the in
the air and stuff like that and landing on bits
with shoulders.

Speaker 9 (44:00):
Adults, we're level one non tumble, so we're not we
don't tumble, we don't flip, we don't there.

Speaker 1 (44:07):
Well that's I'm the same now, once you've tumbled, it's
hard to do at this stage, isn't it.

Speaker 9 (44:14):
Well I can still flip, but yeah, that was that.
That was the older old day. I used to think
I could do the splits. That's that's not not good.

Speaker 1 (44:29):
My wife, I know, when she's really tipsy, she starts
trying to do handstands. I'm like, I don't know. Oh no, no, no,
the hand the hand dandy days are over now, no, no,
don't be doing that after a few.

Speaker 9 (44:43):
Tragic.

Speaker 1 (44:43):
It's tragic, actually is yeah? All right, well listen, good
luck too, is it Dona?

Speaker 9 (44:49):
Dana?

Speaker 5 (44:49):
Jana?

Speaker 1 (44:50):
Go Dana. And it's in Florida in April. Yes, please,
let's speak to you. Wish you all good luck before
you go as well. I wish you all the best.
And I hope your daughter just smashes it in Florida.
Oh so do I thank you thanks for picking up
as well. So glad we could help out. So now
this is expensive. I appreciate the family going out to America.

(45:12):
This is a lot of money. I know you only
asked five hundred dollars for the ambulance bill. I'm going
to round this up to three thousand dollars because obviously
I can't even imagine amount of money over the years
you would have put into supporting hurt like parents do,
and I know that any mum would. But it's probably
bankrupted you many times.

Speaker 9 (45:30):
It has it still does every day, every week, every week.

Speaker 1 (45:33):
Yeah, not a cheap Thank you so much. Thank you,
you're an awesome mum. And obviously yeah I can see
where your daughter gets the talent and the skill and
the hard work from. Thank you. Thank you so much,
pleasure and I wish you and your daughter all the best,
have a great time there.

Speaker 9 (45:48):
Thank you so much.

Speaker 2 (45:49):
Bye, The Christian O'Connell Show Podcast.

Speaker 1 (45:54):
If I could recommend you do one thing over the weekend,
it'll only take you a minute or two. I know
