A Christian O'Connell show podcast.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Good morning, Rio, Good morning, Good morning, Pats morning, Good
morning Alex, Good morning Alex. How was the house move
a disaster? Like you to do anything last week? You
got the wrong day. In fact, I should just be
speaking to your wife.

Speaker 5 (01:57):
We thought it was Saturday, and then we thought it
was Thursday, but no it was Friday. So Friday. But
the rest of the weekend is spent moving the small stuff. Yeah,
those little bits and pieces, the trinkets, the bits of pens.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
And kids clothes, clothes.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
It's just our life is in boxes.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
It's just everywhere. And did you manage to get rid
of some stuff? Because when you move, it's a good
reason to go through your stuff and discard stuff that
you don't want anymore. You hoarde is hanging on to
our old kids, artworks and clothes.

Speaker 5 (02:27):
I got rid of some stuff, but my wife is terrible,
like you won't get rid of like kid's clothes, like
toddler's clothes. Come on, body, it's time to let go
of those. The kids are a lot older now. I
also had my mother in law who was a semi horder.
Look he out of my shoulder the whole time. But
you're out numbered that may I really want you lucky
you made the move.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
Well, god's if we're talking about stuff that really isn't
pulling its weight around here. Can you sit down. We
want to have an appraisal, husband, appraiseel Patsy. How was
your weekend?

Speaker 6 (02:54):
You had a great weekend, although I'm sort of at
odds with the love God. I sent my husband off.
He recently had his eyes tested and they do free
hearing screenings, and you.

Speaker 7 (03:04):
Know, when you're over fifty. I said to him, I
do believe that you're a little hard of hearing. Just
get it checked out. It's free, it's not going to
cost you.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
He was he just pretending not to hear you.

Speaker 7 (03:12):
Well, this is the thing.

Speaker 6 (03:15):
So I was convinced that not quite hearing aids or
anything like that, but maybe just a decline in hearing.
But he came back and he reckoned. He passed it
with flying colors.

Speaker 8 (03:23):
In fact, the.

Speaker 6 (03:23):
Radiology or not the radiologists, what are they? What are
the hearing people?

Speaker 1 (03:27):
I mean about, say, if he's having radiology doning this
his hearing tests he's got he's got a mate.

Speaker 4 (03:31):
We went to the wrong department.

Speaker 8 (03:33):
Whatdiologists on it to say?

Speaker 4 (03:35):
So you're pregnant, thank you for coming.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
You can take your feet out the skirts, and your
hearing is so good, like you having triplets.

Speaker 7 (03:43):
He's got the hearing of a twenty one year old.
He reckoned when he came home, and I said, did
you even do test?

Speaker 4 (03:47):
When is that the benchmark of great hearing? I don't
know twenty one year olds. I wouldn't say I've got
fantastic hearing.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
They're going to high by government agencies as spies because
he's got crystal clear hearing.

Speaker 6 (03:59):
But I don't believe him. He has not got perfect hearing.
I'm sorry he hasn't. And I said, well, so you're
just choosing not to hear me most of the time,
is what that means.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
I think it's actually quite easy to flatter a man,
right if you're middle age and you and you have
something that's the age of a twenty one year old.
A friend of mine had a medical couple of weeks
ago and he was told he has the heart of
a twenty one year old. He has told everyone the
bragging rights of that are absolutely huge.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 4 (04:29):
So we are in Sydney this week.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
We're going to State of Original on Wednesday night, which
I'm husic's side about us the first one. And you
were a nightmare getting into your Airbnb yesterday.

Speaker 8 (04:37):
Oh I'm still getting over it.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
Kaitlyn can never relax an Airbnb and she've got that
flipping key, Yes absolutely, here's eighty seven digits and an
excamation mark to access the key safe.

Speaker 8 (04:48):
Ours was insane. The journey we had to go on
just to get the key.

Speaker 9 (04:52):
Instead of just normally having you know, you can just
get it from a little lock box at the right
of the apartment, we had to go to a street
probably two blocks.

Speaker 8 (04:59):
Down from where our apartment was, and they didn't tell
us a.

Speaker 9 (05:02):
Street number, they just said the lock box is on
this street next.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
To Again, this is to choose your own adventure.

Speaker 8 (05:08):
It was honestly like the Da Vinci Code or something.

Speaker 9 (05:10):
It was like it was under near a street post,
near a brown and green bush which does not does
not narrow.

Speaker 8 (05:20):
Kidding, It.

Speaker 4 (05:23):
Was attached to this list, the store of the Explorer.

Speaker 9 (05:26):
The lockbook was attached to this street post that then
sort of ran underneath this big bush. But there are
so many bushes, There are so many street posts on
this massive city.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
Sydney famous for its bushes.

Speaker 8 (05:37):
Fameous, some of the best shrubbery.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
People can come from Afar to check out the favor
Sydney bushes. Don't talk about the Opera House or the
Harbor Bridge, what about those bushes. Oh my god, there
are some herbaceous shrubs in this city.

Speaker 9 (05:51):
My friend so Caitlin and producer Kaylin and I are
on hands and knees going.

Speaker 4 (05:55):
Under all these and it would have been dark.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
I kissing.

Speaker 8 (05:57):
Yeah, it was get stuck so early.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
So we're trying to we turned this into our next
big thing we do in the show The Golden Key.
We're just going to shove it in a shrub somewhere
in Australia, some.

Speaker 8 (06:06):
Of Sydney's famous shrubs.

Speaker 4 (06:08):
That's what happened.

Speaker 9 (06:09):
Were eventually in the head, like fifteen minutes of looking,
we found it. And then this I don't know if
it was my mistake or the Airbnb's mistake, but I
got so lost trying to get into the apartment building.
We had to go through these fire doors, and one
of them locked behind me.

Speaker 8 (06:25):
So I was stuck in this fire door house.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
And did you have all the codes for the fire
doors and the lobby codes.

Speaker 9 (06:31):
I didn't have any codes. That was the If I
had codes, I would have been fine. But I had
to walk up and down opening every door of the
of all these different floors in the apartment until I
could eventually come hours old. She was just waiting down,
waiting down the bottom at the lobby as I'm sort
of running up into so stressful. Honestly, took us probably
from getting out of our uber to getting into the

(06:52):
door at least forty five minutes.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
All right, So three word weekend Rio, It's got a
great one. I want to find out what's happened with
funeral faux Pa. You can hear about that next, and
I'll tell you the strange gift exchange I had with
my wife on Saturday on our wedding anniversary.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
On our twenty eighth wedding aniversy cone up.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
Next Christian Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
So over the weekend on Saturday, it's my wife and
I's twenty.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
Eighth wedding anniversary. And we had an agreement. She was like,
you know, just it's just so busy moment. Just not
worry about presents or anything like that. That's not That's fine.
It's twenty eight years together. You don't You've gone through
so much together, you really don't need to do that.
But I thought, I'm gonna get some flowers anyway. It's
just a nice thing to have in the home and
stuff like that. I get these flowers, and often when

(07:40):
you go into a florest, you go up.

Speaker 4 (07:42):
I'll have those ones.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
And then when you get them back, by the time
you take that wrapping off, it shrinks and every letter
as I'm suddenly unwrapping these pro tip by the way, guys,
if you're giving a partner flowers, don't give them a
bunch of flowers.

Speaker 4 (07:54):
Give them put them in the vase.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
Otherwise it's like you're giving them a task to do
to sort them all out. So I arrange them in
the vase, find the vase, filled it with water, and
tell you about ten minutes to work out, Actually, where
are the VARs kept in the garage? There are the
foxes kept? Where does she find these vases from? I
was like an everywhere, because they wouldn't fit in a cupboard.

(08:17):
I was like, where does she keep these eye? I
know we've got three or four of them. I see them,
but I don't know. I don't know where they are
in the house, Where do they live? Where are they kept?

Speaker 4 (08:24):
Anywhere? And found the vast anyway, every.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
Every wrapper, I'm rapping for this bunch of flowers, fellows
that come losing twenty or thirty dollars every wrap, and
suddenly they're real.

Speaker 4 (08:33):
It's a small bunch of flowers.

Speaker 8 (08:35):
Did you get them from the supermarket?

Speaker 1 (08:37):
No, no, no florist. So anyway, I get them to
my wife and then she goes, oh, oh, oh my god,
how beautiful, Chris. But at least she didn't spend the
cranes about money, Otherwise you would have felt quite guilty.

Speaker 4 (08:49):
And when now these were one hundred and twenty bucks,
what she was like, what she said?

Speaker 1 (08:54):
The kid might just presume you must have got them
at the Supermarke went, no, no, no, these are full of florests,
these one hundred choice christ about full flower to get
this guys, My wife then rings the forest to tear
them off for over charge. Jimmy, I'm watching all this going.
Don't don't do that. Don't worry about it. I just
don't worry about it. Is strange.

Speaker 4 (09:14):
You're making it odd.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Just half the flowers. It's okay singing them. I was
sending a photo of what they look like. She sent
them a photo would have look at the vase.

Speaker 8 (09:25):
Oh wow, She's like, they've taken advantage of.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
My whole simple man basically Forest Gump with a radio
shown day you pray on a simpleton, radly romantic. Now
all the game is like, you know, people came round of.

Speaker 4 (09:38):
The week and we're like christ To played Dungeon and
twenty bucks. Anyone was like, bloody, would you even want
to sue my went?

Speaker 8 (09:43):
They're from the forests flowers.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
I don't know if anyone's ever complained about their own gift.
I want to find out this morning, because I can't.
I don't actually think we'll get any stories about someone
who would have.

Speaker 4 (09:56):
Complained about a gift.

Speaker 8 (09:58):
Your wife is one of a kind.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
She's one of a kind.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
She said, she's more upset than I was overcharged, and
just take the flowers, enjoy the flowers.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
Christian O'Connell's show Gone podcast.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
Have I had a great weekend? You could tell us
your story of your weekend. Three word weekend we do
every Monday, Ria, what's your three word weekend?

Speaker 9 (10:18):
Mine's funeral faux pas So on Friday one of our
beloved producers, Tina. Unfortunately, her father, THEO passed away a
great man, and Caitlin and I were very privileged to
be invited to not just the funeral, but also the
burial and the wake.

Speaker 8 (10:35):
And it was on Friday.

Speaker 4 (10:35):
It must have been some day it was, and you
know what it was, so.

Speaker 8 (10:38):
It was really deeply moving and so I know Tina
was the one who organized it all and she did
an incredible job pulling it all together. It was a beautiful,
beautiful day.

Speaker 9 (10:48):
I think his dad, her dad sorry, would have been very,
very proud and very happy with a sendoff.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
Tina, by the way, works on the show. She's one
half off the Chuckle Sisters. Case wondered who Tina she is.
There's no easy way Outuld explain who Tina is, the
one half the Chuckle sisters, and so how was the day?
It was beautiful? His funerals can go.

Speaker 8 (11:05):
It was, it was, it was.

Speaker 9 (11:07):
There was a beautiful moment at the aerial where thea
was getting lowered down, and at that very moment, it's
a beautiful blue sky overlooking this lake and these three
swans just fly overhead and it was stunning, beautiful.

Speaker 4 (11:19):
Greeks a gift to the family as well.

Speaker 8 (11:21):
Morning, Yeah, it was stunning, it was.

Speaker 9 (11:23):
They did such an amazing job on what must have
been a very very difficult day for them.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
Well, I really hope that Tina and her mum and
her family are well. It's a very very sad day Friday.
Now I'm really scared about what was the faux pas?
And I say this with I'm thinking, and I'm sure
people listening are bracing. I can't actually relax right now.
So I'm like, what have you done? If you've painted
such a beautiful story of a very loving send off
to a very very loved man as well THEO, what

(11:49):
on earth did you do? He didn't ask where's THEO?

Speaker 10 (11:52):
Did not ask THEO because I think, what's what have
you done. Okay, So we got to by the way,
Rio assured me. He said, I've got this thing, the
story about the funeral from Friday. I have clearance from
from Tina. It's okay to talk about this.

Speaker 8 (12:05):
Tina came over to me, grabbed me by the shot
and said, you.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
Must you nervous as well.

Speaker 8 (12:09):
I am.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
I'm gripping the studio desk right now, Like, what did
you do this?

Speaker 4 (12:16):
She's robber stabbed sets.

Speaker 8 (12:17):
Okay. So we're headed to the wake and everyone had
gathered there.

Speaker 4 (12:20):
There was maybe what's a traditional Greek funeral?

Speaker 9 (12:23):
Yes, it was a beautiful Greek Orthodox service in the
morning with a Greek priest and he's sort of they've
got this.

Speaker 8 (12:31):
It's all in Greek.

Speaker 9 (12:32):
So they're chanting for about an hour and they're lighting incense.

Speaker 4 (12:35):
Said that, like I said, it's a Greek funeral. What
language would it be in?

Speaker 1 (12:38):
Well, actually American?

Speaker 8 (12:40):
He did.

Speaker 9 (12:40):
He did switch from Greek to English, which was quite
jarring because he had a very English, had a very
Australian accent. So this beautiful Greek chanting and then he
would sort of switch to English.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
In his before the show, Rio described as like Elton
John and keeky but in Greek the kind of cooler
response to.

Speaker 8 (12:57):
Him putting on a great show. Let's fas.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
Fall in the hole? Did you?

Speaker 8 (13:05):
We're going to the wake.

Speaker 9 (13:08):
There's a fifty or sixty people hovering around, there's food
set up.

Speaker 4 (13:12):
And they're paying their respects and hovering around.

Speaker 8 (13:15):
Everyone was hovering around.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
You're about to put down another faux par Now what's
the faux At the wake?

Speaker 9 (13:23):
Everyone was in a state of hovering because we weren't
quite sure what was the next move, because there was
all this beautiful food that was untouched.

Speaker 4 (13:31):
Lovely Greek spread, not graveside.

Speaker 8 (13:33):
No. At this point, we've moved into like the cafe restaurant.

Speaker 10 (13:36):
Wait area, Yeah, wait, Cary.

Speaker 9 (13:40):
And then I said to Kate and I said, can
we can we start eating this food?

Speaker 8 (13:44):
And she goes no, no, no, no, No one else is eating.
And I said, I think they want us to eat
the food. Why would they put out this delicious Greek
spread if it's not to be.

Speaker 4 (13:52):
Eat Almost sounded like it affected a little bit of
a Greek accident.

Speaker 9 (13:58):
Starving by this point as well hadn't eaten since breakfast, don't.

Speaker 8 (14:02):
Okay? He goes no, everyone's waiting for a reason, I said,
you know why everyone's waiting.

Speaker 9 (14:06):
Everyone's waiting for someone brave to take the first step,
take the first door, mat, take the first calamari, and
then the rest will follow.

Speaker 1 (14:13):
Better.

Speaker 4 (14:13):
If it was it was freshly made Greek food, it
would have looked.

Speaker 9 (14:17):
Like a banquet, exactly. Well, terrible to let that go
to waste. And Katin says, I think you're underthinking. I said,
I think you're overthinking.

Speaker 4 (14:23):
No, you can't be the first one.

Speaker 8 (14:25):
Someone has to be the first one, but no one
must otherwise.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
That's the morning family they do that.

Speaker 8 (14:32):
No, I think they were. That's okay, maybe for the.

Speaker 9 (14:36):
First but everyone was waiting. So I thought, I'm gonna
I'm going to do the brief thing. I'm waiting for
someone else to start. Let me be the one. So
I go over there, I fill up a plate of calamari.

Speaker 8 (14:45):
Don martes.

Speaker 9 (14:46):
It's weird, beautiful, and then I see Tina from across
the way shooting me daggers, looking at me and shaking
her head vigorously.

Speaker 8 (14:55):
Going her friend runs over ash.

Speaker 9 (14:59):
Comes over me. No no, no, no no, she has put
the food and put the food down. The priest hasn't
come and blessed the food. Yet he has to come
and for everyone eats it then. But unfortunately I was
half right in that people were just waiting for one
person to there being.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
Loads of people chuckle into the unblessed food.

Speaker 9 (15:16):
Everyone saw me eating the cursed food and go, oh
it's fine.

Speaker 4 (15:19):
Don't know how that third eye out on you.

Speaker 8 (15:21):
So they all started.

Speaker 9 (15:23):
There was probably a dozen people then with plates of
food in their hand, and Tina's aunt he's a running
around to everyone who was not grabbing the food off
like stop, no, no, no, no, like grabbing their plates,
taking it out their hands and.

Speaker 8 (15:33):
Putting it down because the breeze hadn't blessed the food.
We're still waiting on the breeze. Everyone's eating cursed Greek.

Speaker 4 (15:38):
Food, which cursed. We were still going to help.

Speaker 1 (15:45):
So what happened? Did he go around blessing each plate
and then we know then now we would have the
blessing of the plate.

Speaker 8 (15:52):
He blessed it, not individual place.

Speaker 9 (15:54):
Be does come over and bless each table of food
and then we could start eating.

Speaker 8 (15:58):
But yes, I might have started a little bit early.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
Oh my, what was what was to ve?

Speaker 9 (16:04):
From Tina and the mum Daggers thought initially Daggers, Yes,
Tina was Now I.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
Understand why you had a bit of bad luck yesterday
you got locked in a hallway.

Speaker 4 (16:12):
They've got that third eye on you, my friend.

Speaker 3 (16:15):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 1 (16:19):
I'm very excited to welcome a new member to the show.
It's to our family actually, and it is intern Pete.
Who what were your Pete? Were you ten twelve years
with Colin Jackie?

Speaker 11 (16:31):
Oh yeah, at twelve and a half years on the
show there, so well, here in the new family, which
is great. So thanks for making me so welcome.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
And how does it feel to be joining this show
because obviously you're used to the glitz, the glamour yep,
the siwah of filth and a lot of a lot
of money being thrown out that show. Before the show,
Patsy goes and where is the Barrisla because Colin Jackio
had a full time flipping barrista and I went issue.

Speaker 4 (16:59):
Yea, you are the Bristle, I'm the Britain. The intern
becomes Pete the Barristol.

Speaker 11 (17:04):
I just went down and got some teen coffees, which
was just great. We've got we've got a new listen
of the morning down the cafe this morning.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
You saw Carl down they're selling big issues, trying to
get some legal money doing there.

Speaker 11 (17:13):
That's okay, yep, so it is. You're right from the
glitz and glamor to well another version of glitz and glamor.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
Let's go with that, shall we. It's gold now that
the studios that you were used to obviously you know,
beautiful kind of marble piece of gold.

Speaker 4 (17:27):
Yeah, pay with gold. Now you're summing it here on gold.
He started talking about.

Speaker 1 (17:33):
How the how the cameras looked in the studio, and
he went, oh, think cameras are ye solid, it's very passionizing.

Speaker 8 (17:41):
I didn't mean it.

Speaker 4 (17:42):
It's just recording on Beta Max.

Speaker 11 (17:44):
I was just trying to say they look really good.
And sometimes when something's really good, I call it.

Speaker 5 (17:47):
That's really.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
Maybe the old fellow might have formed Fellow, but.

Speaker 11 (17:53):
All my secarets are going to come undern.

Speaker 4 (17:57):
Honestly.

Speaker 1 (17:58):
Now, people, welcome to the team. We're very, very excited.
I think you're a huge talent and it's great to
have you on the show as well. Can you please
tell everyone about this kayaking business you have at the weekend.

Speaker 4 (18:08):
I'm yes, kayking, So we're going, Pete.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
I rang him a couple of weeks ago, just to
go over a few details before the big announcement that
he was coming over on a very very free transfer,
and he said, I can't I can't talk now I'm
in a kayak taking a group of Japanese tourists around
the waterways of Sydney.

Speaker 11 (18:28):
That's right, and I couldn't talk. But I didn't want
to miss his call as well, because I think we.

Speaker 4 (18:32):
Were just at that.

Speaker 11 (18:32):
You know, Oh, is he going to come?

Speaker 9 (18:34):
Is he?

Speaker 1 (18:34):
Or can I? You don't have any other drop offers.
That's absolutely true.

Speaker 4 (18:38):
So yes, she's going to take bows off on Triple.

Speaker 1 (18:40):
M seven days a week.

Speaker 11 (18:42):
If this doesn't work out, we go kayaking and Sydney Harbor.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
Is he coming?

Speaker 4 (18:45):
Of course he's coming.

Speaker 11 (18:47):
Well, yeah, you're right. Actually I've got to get my
timeline right here, don't know, but yeah, essentially, yeah, kayaking
across Sydney Harbor, which is fantastic. Thanks for the plug
by the way, little stuff kayaking Sydney.

Speaker 4 (18:55):
I've never expected that.

Speaker 1 (18:56):
He also assured me that every Saturday morning he's spreading
the good word of our show to twenty five Kayakers.
This is how we're going to win Sydney. Good at
the How did you do it? It was Pete and
the Kayakers, But.

Speaker 8 (19:08):
Didn't you say the Japanese tourists. Yes, we're just getting Tokyo.
I don't even know all listing on a VPN somewhere.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
Fantastic.

Speaker 4 (19:18):
So you had your leaving do Friday night.

Speaker 11 (19:20):
Had the leaving do, all the all the team there
came and a few people have worked on the show
over the years, all that sort of stuff, and it
was just fantastic. But like, there was lots of celebrations
because there's lots of video montages and audio montages and
celebrity guests that came in. Pauline Hanson came on the show,
and then.

Speaker 1 (19:36):
We just where were the celebrity guests?

Speaker 4 (19:38):
Yeah, well that she was not warm than up a meeting.
That must have been.

Speaker 8 (19:41):
Yeah, it was it was gay. I mean it was gay.

Speaker 11 (19:46):
But I think she thinks I was going to run
for one nation at some stage.

Speaker 8 (19:49):
But I just made that up just for right.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
Do you know what plot twist? There's been so much
change for you in your your life this year. Who
knew that one might be coming around the corner.

Speaker 11 (19:59):
But there was a split moment where I think everyone
started bringing up the going, you've really we've really created
quite a lot of hoho ha, like these big drinks.
We all started about four o'clock in the afternoon, and
there was beaches and carry on and presents and cakes
and bottles of vodka and all sorts of stuff, and
then we all just realize you've just moved from level
seventeen to level sixteen, which is only five meters.

Speaker 1 (20:18):
Yeah, long might not realist as we work for the
same company, so Kiss and Gold, same company, that's right,
So you literally just moved floors.

Speaker 11 (20:25):
Absolutely, I have got so many bottles of alcohol, has
gifts and everything like big cake with my big faith
on it, and I thought, yeah, I'm just moving desks.

Speaker 8 (20:33):
The'se not real.

Speaker 11 (20:34):
I mean, it's a shorter commute to work as we're
on level sixteen here, which is great. So that's obviously
a five meter saving over you know, over a bit.

Speaker 4 (20:41):
Of time morning commute. Yes, I can leave work later
as you can.

Speaker 1 (20:45):
Yeah, all right, so this morning we want to work
out who has taken the shortest distance to a new
job and who's done the longest, So which way are
you who's done the shortest distance to start a new
job and who's done the longest. You can give me
call thirteen fifty five twenty two, and you can also
text me oh four seven five three one oh four
three Pete the in turn, Welcome to the bright se time.

(21:07):
Sorry much.

Speaker 3 (21:10):
The Christian O'Connell Show Podcast.

Speaker 1 (21:14):
Shortest move to a new job, longest moved to a
new job. Good morning to Ben Christian. What about from
the bedroom to the lounge room only fans now roundroom?

Speaker 4 (21:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (21:26):
Yeah, this is Jason. Jason. I got a part time
job at Auto Barn, then I got a full time
job or Auto Pro, which is next door to them.
Then I got a job at the local Ford Dealership,
which is three hundred meters up the same road. Then
I finally get a job in twenty twenty one with
the ex Serviceman's Club, which is next door to that

(21:46):
Ford dealership. Used to work out anyone playing along here,
tracking his moves all on the He's worked on the
same street for seventeen years. Incredible, four different jobs, Thank
you very much for that one.

Speaker 4 (21:59):
Who's this Christian?

Speaker 1 (22:00):
I was made redundant from one job and then three
days later start another job across the road from the
old place. Awkward, Christian. I used to work one hour
by train, now work six minute walk from my home.

Speaker 4 (22:13):
Let's take some calls here. Good morning, Gail, welcome to
the show.

Speaker 12 (22:17):
Good morning, Christian.

Speaker 1 (22:18):
How are you. I'm good to have you. A lovely
weekend girl. So what's your story for us? Mate?

Speaker 12 (22:22):
Well, I used to travel ten minutes to my job
and I now travel an hour and a half.

Speaker 4 (22:29):
You don't hate that job an hour and a half?

Speaker 12 (22:32):
Yep, I do really like that job actually, although I'm
about to retire.

Speaker 1 (22:37):
All right.

Speaker 4 (22:37):
Do they know they just start hearing it first some
on the show.

Speaker 1 (22:40):
No, no, no, they know, they know, they know, they know.
All right, we'd lovely to hear that, Gil.

Speaker 4 (22:45):
Gail, thank you very much.

Speaker 1 (22:46):
You give us a call. Have a good week. Thank you. Steph.
Good morning, Welcome to the show.

Speaker 4 (22:51):
Steph.

Speaker 1 (22:52):
Morning Christian, Good morning Steph. So Steph, I think you're
a contender from the lot for the longest move to
a new job. Where did you go?

Speaker 2 (22:59):
Yes?

Speaker 13 (23:00):
Correct? So I moved to Florida in the USA for
five months back in twenty twenty two. So I worked
at Walt Disney World.

Speaker 4 (23:08):
You were interning for walk.

Speaker 13 (23:11):
I wish. So I worked at Magic Kingdom at Tomorrowland Speedway.
I was only there for five months. It was the
greatest adventure of my life.

Speaker 1 (23:21):
I bet.

Speaker 4 (23:21):
What an incredible place to work.

Speaker 13 (23:23):
Yeah, definitely.

Speaker 1 (23:25):
So were you actually in the park with a public.

Speaker 13 (23:28):
Yeah, correct. So I was working on attraction, so I
got to greet all the guests. They came from all
walks of life, everywhere around the world.

Speaker 1 (23:35):
So it was amazing, I bet. And also you're dealing
with people, then that's that's going to be one of
the best days of their life. And so I've been
watching a documentary about the place, and there's all these
hidden doorways where you all come out from.

Speaker 13 (23:47):
Correct, Yes, but that's secrecies. I can't say anything.

Speaker 1 (23:51):
Yeah, they got these sort of secret doorways because stringing
out of an office blocks sticking their head on you know.

Speaker 4 (23:59):
Yeah, yeah, he's having a dart round the back.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
It's not a good look. Was secret doorways and trap
doors that they emerge from.

Speaker 13 (24:07):
Yeah, So their kingdom is that's an underground like pathway,
so you would go underneath the castle and then we'll
come out of these doorways all from all sections of
the Kingdom.

Speaker 3 (24:20):
Amazing, but yeah, pretty cool.

Speaker 4 (24:21):
Yeah, I bet that was great for I'm being an
intern there.

Speaker 13 (24:24):
Yeah. I was only there, like I said, for five
months and I only packed one suitcase. Came back with
two suitcases.

Speaker 1 (24:31):
Fantastic. Steph.

Speaker 4 (24:32):
Thank you very much to give us a call.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
Have a good day.

Speaker 13 (24:34):
Appreciate it you two see.

Speaker 1 (24:35):
Yeah, bye bye Steve. Good morning Steve, La Christian Gang.
We're good Steve, thanks for calling the show. Have you
had a nice weekend? That's Steve short all the longest
distance for a new job.

Speaker 14 (24:46):
What's it for you, Steve, definitely the shortest. I was
working as a builder's laborer and the job was coming
on an end. He was telling me that there'd be
no work left and tourmatos away and brick you over.
They come work for me and ended up there for
about five years.

Speaker 8 (25:04):
And now you're husy, all right, Steve?

Speaker 3 (25:09):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (25:10):
Yeah, it's crazy, Steve, Thank you very much for give
it's a call.

Speaker 3 (25:14):
Christian Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 4 (25:17):
We are on a mission to save your pub.

Speaker 9 (25:23):
Went to our local We've been going to the years.

Speaker 1 (25:29):
At Lisa's E eighteenth.

Speaker 15 (25:31):
There's where we had alberspies. F see better days in
Nita liquor pace.

Speaker 8 (25:41):
We need to help this joint on me.

Speaker 15 (25:43):
In all our mates. He's any fne say Christ please
save al pup. He's anyboy gona say a Christ please
save album?

Speaker 1 (25:58):
All right. The reason why we're doing this over the
last two decades, the last twenty years, sixty percent of
us training pumps have gone and they won't be coming back.

Speaker 4 (26:06):
We think that's wrong. We want to do something about that.

Speaker 1 (26:09):
We need your help. Tell us about your local pub.
It's worth fighting for, it's worth saving. We've joined force
us with four X, which means we can help more pubs.
The pub's calling somewhere between the first sip and the
last laugh.

Speaker 4 (26:22):
It's always a four ITX.

Speaker 1 (26:23):
So the good news is starting next week pub a day,
five pubs are going to get five thousand dollars each
and another one gets the ultimate makeover.

Speaker 4 (26:33):
When we get to that point.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
We will need help from the good trade ees that
listen to the show. We're gonna need help because we'll
probably end up doing a renovation.

Speaker 4 (26:42):
I'm using a collective.

Speaker 1 (26:43):
We there the royal we I see mean more in
a director's chair in a heavily supervisory role.

Speaker 8 (26:52):
Yeah, none of us really have.

Speaker 4 (26:54):
That pub does not want me on the tools.

Speaker 1 (26:56):
It would not be on the pubs drinking the stuff, yes, fine,
but not on the tools. You're one of the best, yes,
all right, So tell us about your local pub. Heads
to the Goold website dot com dot au. Already we
only launched this in the middle of last week. Already
we've heard about two hundred pubs, which is incredible. Thank
you so much. Place to go to is the website,
the Gold website dot com dot au. Sally is runs

(27:18):
a beautiful pub that needs somehow morning, Sally, Welcome to
the show.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
Thank you very much.

Speaker 12 (27:24):
Happy to be here.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
Now, Sally, tell us about your pub. First of all,
what's it called and where is it?

Speaker 4 (27:28):
Sally.

Speaker 8 (27:28):
It's called the.

Speaker 2 (27:29):
Royal oakin Valmain.

Speaker 1 (27:30):
Good name for a pub, good neck for a pub.
And this is your pub.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
It's owned by Mauren Sawnet and her daughter manages it.
But she used to have the Goblin Hotel in Surry
Hills and she does the best food always. So anytime
we have a special occasion, we're off to Mourne's Pub
for lunch, dinner, whatever, and we always have a great
time together. The food's great and we sit and chat

(27:57):
and laugh and carry on and lunch turns into dinner.
You know what I mean?

Speaker 4 (28:01):
Yes, per a nice long lunch. O a big fan
of a long lunch. And the pub needs to ow
What does it need help doing? Is it a liquor paint.

Speaker 2 (28:08):
Or the restaurant's great? They could brighten up the bar
a bit because it's a dark in the bar. Maybe
maybe that's not such bad things after after I.

Speaker 8 (28:18):
Had a few glasses of wine, but I spent a
lot of time with the Royal like actually some great
an Zact days. They do a great two up there
a lot of money.

Speaker 9 (28:27):
Yes, it is a brilliant pub and yes could do
with a bit of a freshen uper brighten up a
great community club in dummer.

Speaker 3 (28:34):
Christian O'Connell show go on podcast, Let's save the Australian pubs.

Speaker 1 (28:40):
They are dying out, they're going by the wayside and
they're not coming back. We're not going to the pubs
as much as we used to. People who are drinking
at home. Too much time streaming, not enough time cheersing.
That's what That's what the problem is though, isn't it.
We all now just have built lives for convenience, all right,
and it's easy just to stay indoors. In fact, my

(29:00):
wife and I did this on Saturday night. I put
to a restaurant for our wedding anniversary. My wife wait,
waits up Saturday morning, goes come we bother. Chris just
cancel said can you cook? She just like, can't be
bothered to go out? You know, I'll get my hair wet,
dry it, get the clothes on. Can you just cook?

Speaker 4 (29:16):
I was like, Okay, your twenty eight just giving up.
You're just giving up. You're just waiting each other out.

Speaker 1 (29:24):
You know. Basically after twenty eight years of marriage is
just every day taking it turns to ask us for
dinner tonight or so dinner tonight until one of you
just dies. That's marriage twenty eight years. Can't be actually
bothered to go I haven't got the effort, Chris, to
celebrate being with you. How about you?

Speaker 15 (29:42):
She does?

Speaker 4 (29:42):
I just want to put my cozies on watch TV.

Speaker 1 (29:45):
Too much time streaming, not enough time's cheersing, bring back
to cheers?

Speaker 4 (29:50):
And there was someone in the news, wasn't there a
couple of months ago?

Speaker 1 (29:52):
How about even the hour of the shout they're getting
around and that's not happening anymore. Yes, dying out. Yes,
we need to get elbow one as well. They've got
to do something about paying too much a beer in
this country. It's so crazy, crazy amount of that. All right,
so we need your hap. Tell us about your local
pub that needs saving, because we really do want to
do that. We've got together with four X and so

(30:13):
it means that next week this is gonna be incredible.
Five pubs are going to be getting the news at
they getting five thousand dollars each. It would appair just
you know, hearing about all the pubs that the standard
of pub painting has really fallen by the wayside. It's
the love every pub we're hearing about needs painting. Who
are the probably a dodgy Irish painters, probably seeing them
on the current affair all right, doing it undercutting a

(30:34):
local painter for cash, and then within months the paints
waking off.

Speaker 8 (30:38):
And they all need a lick exactly one lick of paint.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
One do you need two or three coats?

Speaker 4 (30:43):
Just a lick of paint? All right, tell us about
your local pub.

Speaker 1 (30:46):
Give us a call. Thirteen fifty five twenty two, producer
Count has assured me that these callers can speak.

Speaker 4 (30:53):
Catherine, Good morning, Catherine.

Speaker 12 (30:55):
Good morning everyone.

Speaker 1 (30:57):
Good morning Catherine, reassuring and Katherine, tell us about your
local pub.

Speaker 12 (31:02):
My local pub is the Royal Meredith, owned by Claire
and Damian. They are one of the life pubs in
the Geelong region that host pretty big bands out in
their bier garden. Kate Sobrano first e merc Oh wow,
dat Jones. They get us to support them. We get

(31:22):
looked after so well. A few months before my father died,
they accommodated him. They got him backstage to meet Kate
Sobrano because he's eighty and thinks Kate Sobrano is just
a doll.

Speaker 4 (31:35):
Good of them. That's the thing about these pubs, isn't
there the heart of a community.

Speaker 12 (31:38):
When they're done right, they are wonderful people. The only
thing the inside bar needs a bit of a vamp up.
They don't have Poky's. They've got two awesome pool tables.
They still have the Bingo tickets.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
Oh wow, that's proper old school brilliant.

Speaker 12 (31:56):
It needs some maybe some new floor, maybe some tables
and a lick of paint, but some tables.

Speaker 1 (32:03):
If I went in there in order to the palm,
eating out your hands when you hear you city slicker.

Speaker 8 (32:12):
Pants.

Speaker 12 (32:15):
Maybe they do amazing meals, but their kitchen is pretty small.
So anything to do, like they support local music, big
music to get us to come in. I'm on stage
with Kate Sobrado. I can't even speak and I meant
to sing.

Speaker 4 (32:31):
You were singing with Kate Serrano?

Speaker 12 (32:34):
Yeah we did.

Speaker 2 (32:35):
Yeah?

Speaker 12 (32:35):
And and Jack Jones. He's a wonderful person.

Speaker 8 (32:38):
So get up and sing.

Speaker 12 (32:44):
My husband and I are a local musical duo.

Speaker 1 (32:48):
So wow, what are you called?

Speaker 12 (32:51):
Uh? Our last name is Keithe. We're called Beauty in
the keys.

Speaker 1 (32:59):
He's the beauty. He's the beauty.

Speaker 4 (33:05):
And what do you do covers? You've got your own material,
need to get your We we do covers.

Speaker 12 (33:10):
We do a lot of corporate and weddings and a
couple of pubs and stuff. But to be on stage
with those people and and the way they looked after dad,
like Kate Sobrano. If you've ever heard Kate Sobrano, try
and say it's a broad brick, come and look next
Ton Scottish. Well, I've got the footage for.

Speaker 4 (33:27):
You so much and plug yourself. When's your next gig?
When can we go and see you?

Speaker 12 (33:35):
Oh tasty, he's playing at the Nash.

Speaker 1 (33:40):
He's doing the Nasty on you. He's doing a secret
gig without you.

Speaker 12 (33:44):
People don't like paying for the due.

Speaker 8 (33:50):
Comes extra.

Speaker 12 (33:52):
I'm extra. I'm extra, and he has to keep me
under control. I do like the writer a little bit.

Speaker 1 (34:05):
All right, we listen. Thank you so much. It has
been a real chick's speaking to you.

Speaker 4 (34:09):
Catherine. Thank you so much for giv us. I have
a great week. Thank you.

Speaker 1 (34:13):
J What a right that's been. Kim, Good morning, Keim,
welcome to the show.

Speaker 3 (34:17):
Kim, Oh, good morning, Christian.

Speaker 16 (34:19):
How are you.

Speaker 4 (34:19):
I'm good.

Speaker 1 (34:20):
Thanks for giving us a call, and so thanks for
taking the time to tell us about your local pub.
So what's it called and where is it?

Speaker 16 (34:25):
Kim okay. So it's a pine grove hotel in Upper
Beaconsfield and it's known as the Pining. It actually burnt
down in Ash Wednesday in eighty three and the community
and the local families had gotten back together and they
had rebuilt it, plus they had done the post office,
rebuilt it reopened in eighty four.

Speaker 1 (34:45):
Incredible.

Speaker 16 (34:46):
And then I think maybe thirty years ago, there was
a family that lived in Hawthorne and he was a
father of young children. He was actually diagnosed with cancer.
So what he did is he decided his last few
years he wanted to live in the hills, so we
bought twenty acres up here in Upper Beaconsfield, and then
he started a winery. He started doing buying, so then

(35:08):
he had for well since then. But then ten years
ago they bought the pub which is next door and
it backs onto it brilliant. So now yes, I had
the Carlery, Carly Winery, and then Carli family bought the
pub and brought it back to life and done like
a small refurbishment, got new cook in you know, the staff,
everything just fell into place and it's just so popular now,
like it's booked out.

Speaker 8 (35:28):
So it.

Speaker 16 (35:30):
Is really good pub and the family's lovely. I mean
the sun does look like Carl barn not as funny,
but does that he's really every time looking at me. Yeah,
you got to not smirk because you just because my
husband goes, oh here comes Carl Baron and go. But
they're so good, like this year they had meat, meat raffles,

(35:53):
meat trays, and they've done fundraisers and they've done a
family day and they raised thirty seven thousand dollars for
the Royal Hospital and then the staff that the young
guys at work there. They've done the shaved Head Day
for cancers. So they're really community based and and they loved.

Speaker 4 (36:09):
I love that.

Speaker 8 (36:10):
I'd love to.

Speaker 16 (36:10):
When I heard this last week, this competition, I thought,
oh my god, I needed to strode away if i'd
love to give you something back.

Speaker 1 (36:15):
Yeahs an amazing place.

Speaker 4 (36:18):
So that's the Piney.

Speaker 16 (36:19):
The Piney. Yes, Yeah, we go every day every week.

Speaker 4 (36:23):
Brilliant.

Speaker 1 (36:23):
Thank you very much for let us know about the
Pine Grover. I have a great day, you two.

Speaker 16 (36:27):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (36:27):
All right, we've got the latest news and sports. So
two great calls, two great pubs that are part of
a community. They're not just a pub. Tell us about
your local pub. The best place to do that now
is said to the goold website dot com dot au.

Speaker 3 (36:40):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 1 (36:44):
We do something called the Misheard Lyrics. Let us get
into this week. It's just another mishurdanay, Christian O'Connell's misheard lyrics.
All right, the miss hurd Lyrics. Every Monday we do this.
We play the back as we play back your misheards.
If you agree with it, you'll hear this if we
can't hear it, and then the really great ones, Hall

(37:10):

fall Out Boys, Sugar We're going down. Tell mommy, I'm
watching YouTube from the closets. Liga had Fantasy Mariah Carey

(37:33):
Sweet Sweet Menacing Baby. We just played this one, Michael Marton.
How can we be lovers? How can we be lovers
if we can't beat France. She's getting nervous about the
World Cups only a couple of weeks away. All right,

(37:56):

been listening to your other man by the Killers when
it comes to Friday, or is it? Well, here comes
to Frida Egg, Here comes the fried egg, very very
quick but very good. Well spot to Dave.

Speaker 4 (38:18):
He's got the hearing of a twenty year old.

Speaker 1 (38:21):
Uh, steph, dance with me, Dance with me. Sorry I
dropped Thompson that I thought I thought, I thought I
had an animal scurry. Very nervous in this country, I
can never fully relax. Actually stop me in my tracks
live on the radio. I saw and I'm not. I

(38:41):
thought I saw a brown snake start and I stopped.

Speaker 4 (38:47):
This country. It's not it's actually nothing. I tell you
what it was. It was actually just a strap of
my band, but.

Speaker 1 (38:52):
Just a corner get down, dropped me roll ax. It's real.
I've never read a good night's sleep since the mood
of this bloody crazy country. Where was I dance with me?
I dropped tops in the parking lot? Or is it
my chop tops in the parking lot? It was chop top,

(39:22):
not snake. I was just speaking to my nervous system.
Steven's got this one mentors anything the song too many times,
too many times, too many times? Or is it two
men in tights, two men in tights, Very good Steven,

(39:44):
Two men in tights, two men in tights. Brenniant wood
on Stephen, Marty Christian. I loved you into a ben
crow a couple of months ago. Now I can't stop
hearing his name. Uh some of the song punk tactics,

(40:04):
bankrolls come straight for the assets, assets, and Marty, you already
do mix up. You're listening habits, don't you. You listen to
us and then you're listening to this class comes the
gear change from Mickey Bolton. Isn't it Mondo Rock Class

the assets? Ash Bart's performance coach, gonna send him this

(40:33):

(41:00):
There's a lot going on in this misheard. I got
hair in my butt. I get higher in Milwaukee. I
go pooping in the dark every morning. So it's three
parts of this one. I got hair in my butt.
I get higher in Milwaukee. I go pooping in the
dark every morning. We ready Ding ding Ding. Steve, you

(41:27):
promised us three, and it really is all three. I
got hair in my butt. I get higher in Milwaukee.
I go pooping in the dark every morning. Once more.

Speaker 4 (41:43):
My favorite one is.

Speaker 1 (41:46):
Steve. That's a Hall of Famer. Word Hall of Fame.
Jess Bernard, cheap wine, Jimmy Barrs cheap wine and.

Speaker 4 (41:54):
A three day growth. Cheap or is it cheap?

Speaker 1 (41:59):
Wine and a three legged goat cheap? It is cheap
wine and a three legged goat cheap. And then Chris
has enjoyed this classic Robbie Williams better Man, send someone

Speaker 14 (42:15):

Speaker 3 (42:58):
Much, Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 1 (43:02):
So the ends of July, I've got a brand new
book coming out. It's a very different kind of book
for me. This is called Unscript and it's about something
that is very very dear to my heart and all
of our heart's. Actually, it's about how to connect authentically
and in life, to know the whole point of our
lives is about the relationships we have.

Speaker 4 (43:22):
People work with, the people that they.

Speaker 1 (43:24):
Love, and our friends, and sometimes it's hard to actually
show up in your speaking in various situations. It's different
from person to person. Speaking is something which is a
natural flow process for all of us, but in certain
situations it just suddenly can jam up for no reason.
You're not really quite sure why, you don't want to
ask a question all of a sudden in a teams meeting.
And right now in the world, there's not only fake

(43:47):
slot from AI, but there's also a lot of fake
slot by human beings on social media. And I think
it's because that's a lot of real form of connection.
It's often the twentieth time they film that it's really
sort of showing a different, fake version that's not sustainable
and doesn't actually have of what human connection really is.
And I think these days, because we're not getting around
each other as much as we use and even like

(44:09):
save our pubs, is a symptom of that how we
have built a life for convenience, and so it means
that actually we are finding it harder and harder to
actually speak authentically to each other. We're losing that connective tissue,
and the number one way that you connect in life
is who you're speaking. So I've written a whole book
about this and finished the audiobook on Saturday's twelve Hours.

(44:30):
The audiobook is good to go. The book is called
unscript and it comes out at the end of July.
I'm very, very excited. I really think it's going to
help a lot of people overcome some of their speaking fears.
It's all about how to tell better stories and also
how to find better stories in your own life as well. Now,
the good news is the reason why I'm telling you
all this is that actually I've done a deal with
book Topia. Book Topia is a fantastic online bookstore. I've

(44:54):
been using them for years. It's so bad the amount
of books that I've got through with them during lockdown
when I was reading, I read a lot anyway, but
reading an obscene amount because we're in lockdown. I got
a letter from book Toopia, who presumed I was an
educational established asking if I want to set up a
business account.

Speaker 4 (45:11):
Wow, I had got My wife was horrified to how.

Speaker 1 (45:15):
Many of these books you said they were from publishing
companies for free, right not to your library. Yes, so anyway,
book Topia and me go way back. So they're doing
this thing now between now and the end of June.
If you're pre ordering my book unscript and you got
to do book Topia, it is twenty percent off if
you use because we call the show the bright Side

(45:37):
of the Dial, if you use the code bright Side twenty,
you get twenty percent off. And because like a lot
of wholesalers, Amazon are doing this as well, but book Topia,
I think it's already about ten or fifteen percent off anyway,
so I think it's about thirty to thirty five percent
you get off the book. And the good news is
if you go to book Topia, great company supporting as well,
and they do some fantastic books as well. If you

(45:59):
go to book Topia, everyone who's pre ordering the book
you go into the draw to come and watch the show.
We're going to be doing a couple of these in Sydney,
couple of them in Melbourne as well. So if you
got to book Topia, use the code, don't tell anybody
else bright Side twenty, you get twenty percent off. And

(46:19):
if you send on to me your receipt, I forget
everybody's pre ordered book.

Speaker 4 (46:23):
You're a still got the chance to come and join.

Speaker 1 (46:25):
A special YouTube live show I'll be doing for my
pre order friends. The reason why you hear a lot
of authors getting you to buy their book on pre
order is pre orders really matter. They do me a
really big thing because it means that bookshops when they're
trying to work out whether to carry a book from
a guy who plays Mondo.

Speaker 4 (46:40):
Rock for a living. Oh, he's got some thoughts in
his head now, is he?

Speaker 1 (46:44):
I don't think.

Speaker 4 (46:45):
I don't think Oprah is going to be getting on
the book club.

Speaker 1 (46:48):
Is they have a look at they have a look
at the pre orders, So they really do make a difference.
Head to book Topia and you could be meeting me
in the team and watching the show.

Speaker 3 (46:56):
Thank you very much, Christian Color Show podcast.

and they were laughing because they were stundard. I believed
that a snake was in the studio. And the reason
why they thought we wast that snake would be in
the studio is that we're sixteen flaws up. And I said,
surely we'll get stories onto our show of snakes high up,

(49:58):
maybe a fourth because.
