Good morning, Pats.

Speaker 4 (01:09):
Morning, everyone.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
Good morning, Rio. Good morning. Good morning, Intern Pete.

Speaker 5 (01:13):
Good morning, everybody.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
Hey, how is.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
The Pimp My Crib rap shaping up for 10 to
8 this morning, Pete?

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Oh, sorry.

Speaker 5 (01:20):
Just as you say that, Laird, I start to think, oh.
I hope the audience is ready for it later on
this morning. It's going to be great. I'm going to
be honest with you. I am very excited to perform
it later on this morning.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
No, no, no, no, not live.

Speaker 5 (01:33):
Well, I have laid down some tracks, but I mean,
I could go live if you wanted.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Do you know what? If you want to go live,
I back you in turn, Pete.

Speaker 5 (01:40):
I was only joking as if I could go live
with this.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
I am so out of time. Yeah, no. I was
going to take it off air and just say on air. No, no,
you do that. And quickly, quickly.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
No way.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
No way. They loved it. They loved it.

Speaker 5 (01:49):
But I've, yep, I was up till 9pm. Sort of
just keep going.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
And have you rapped about your footy team to Pink?

Speaker 5 (01:58):
Pink is the song, and I don't want to give
too much away.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
Why? Well, I got a little lost along the way.
No one's stealing your thunder.

Speaker 5 (02:05):
Well, our listeners might as well. They might be inspired
to do something bigger and better.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
But you can't. You know you're just doing this as
a demo.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
You're not entering the competition to win the $ 8, 000 upgrade.

Speaker 6 (02:16):
Oh, that's fair enough.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
No, that's good.

Speaker 5 (02:18):
But, yeah, look, I am excited to perform. Sorry, to
play the track later on this morning, and I hope
everyone will enjoy it. And I know it's a bit
of a radio moment. 10 to 8.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
People will talk about this for years to come.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
They're camping outside the building right now, want to know
when it is. It's not really about the joy of
the 49ers in town at the moment. It's when is
intern Pete doing his pink wrap. And those two phrases
always go together, don't they? The artist pink and wrapping. Patsy,
how was your day yesterday? How was your Monday?

Speaker 4 (02:48):
I would rate it one out of five, to be
perfectly honest.

Speaker 7 (02:51):
My daughter had to do, she had this music assignment where,
you know, this is where... Look, I'm not great technically.
It's a miracle I get myself to wear most days.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
I'm not good with stuff like that.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Yeah, the poor engineers.

Speaker 4 (03:02):
No, it's not that bad.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
It's almost like an entire team. The desk's broken. Just
come and press that button.

Speaker 8 (03:10):
F5.

Speaker 7 (03:11):
She had an assignment where I had to or she
had to download this video of her singing onto a
Google Drive file or something or other.

Speaker 6 (03:22):
Even the way you said Google Drive.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
Google Drive has been around for years.

Speaker 6 (03:25):
I don't understand it.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
It's just a file folder place.

Speaker 9 (03:28):
Whatever.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
It may as well be in German. I don't get
it anyway.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
I haven't seen your desktop arrangement.

Speaker 4 (03:35):
I know.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
Oh, wow.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
It's like walking into a TK Maxx. Or a Bunnings,
you know, where, oh, you do everything all under one screen.

Speaker 5 (03:43):
More like a spotlight.

Speaker 6 (03:43):
You can't even see the wallpaper. There's stuff everywhere.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (03:46):
I know.

Speaker 7 (03:46):
My husband says every night when he sees my laptop,
he goes, oh, you should be ashamed of that.

Speaker 9 (03:51):
That is a mess.

Speaker 10 (03:52):
Crazy.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
I know, but I know where everything is, kind of,
sort of.

Speaker 7 (03:55):
Anyway, so I just sort of glaze over when she
comes to me and says, mum, I need help with downloading,
doing this. Anyway, it was so bad, I thought, you
know what? Let's just YouTube it.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
And I was trying to be calm.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
What?

Speaker 1 (04:08):
You had to YouTube how to download a Google Drive?

Speaker 4 (04:11):
Yes, I did.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
But you just like right click on it.

Speaker 6 (04:14):
Well, I'm not ashamed to say. Google, it's so user friendly.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
Oh, really, Rio?

Speaker 6 (04:19):
Really?

Speaker 4 (04:19):
I'm so technical.

Speaker 7 (04:21):
No, I didn't know what to do. And I'm not
ashamed to say that I YouTubed it. And I was
trying to be calm to her.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Oh, you know how to get onto YouTube, Nana?

Speaker 4 (04:29):
Yeah, that new thing called YouTube.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Careful you don't get groomed.

Speaker 11 (04:34):
In this quick video, I'm going to show you how
you can upload videos to Google.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Why is it always a dull English guy? Have you
done this on purpose? Let's not begin the day like that.
But it's always dull English people with IT tips, isn't it?
I reckon a good 80% of YouTube tutorials done by
sort of enthusiastic amateurs is dull British guys called Nigel.

Speaker 6 (04:55):
You know what, though?

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Don't forget to like and subscribe all my videos.

Speaker 9 (04:58):
He was brilliant.

Speaker 4 (04:59):
It was so clear to understand. And the geek in me,
I had to comment.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
There's no geek in you. Trust me. There's no geek
in the girl. There's not. There's no geek in you.

Speaker 4 (05:08):
Thank you so much for your clear instructions. And I
got it first time.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
Let's have a listen.

Speaker 11 (05:12):
In this quick video, I'm going to show you how
you can upload videos to Google Drive from iPhone.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
Is he doing an impression of like a lord?

Speaker 6 (05:19):
Sounds like Nigel Thornberry.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
I tell you what, this definitely is AI. AI voice
is like, why would anyone want to sound like that?
How would someone speaking like this get late?

Speaker 11 (05:28):
In this quick video, I'm going to show you how
you can upload videos to Google Drive from iPhone. So first,
you need to head over to the Play Store. And
if you haven't already, just go ahead and download Google Drive.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
Wait, what?

Speaker 10 (05:39):
That was Patrick's first problem.

Speaker 6 (05:44):
Oh, I don't have a Google Drive. Yeah, laughing man.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
Brilliant post.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
You can rate your Monday. How was your day yesterday?

Speaker 2 (05:55):
How did you begin your week? Let us know out
of five. Text me at 0475031043. Intern Pete, how was
your Monday?

Speaker 5 (06:04):
I gave it a four out of five, and that
was because I got into– I had a really nice day,
did all my meal prepping, set myself up for the
week just to make sure I'm.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Going to– Are you still doing that, Rio?

Speaker 6 (06:12):
Meal prepping?

Speaker 10 (06:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
You prep the week.

Speaker 8 (06:14):
Yes.

Speaker 6 (06:15):
Match cooking on a Sunday, try to get us through
the evening.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
I'm still in the chaos of day to day.

Speaker 6 (06:19):
Oh, I couldn't live like this.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
Yeah, now the.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
Kids aren't at home now.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
We've just fallen way out of how we used to
always prep the weekend.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Now they're not there. We're kind of rudderless.

Speaker 6 (06:28):
You're living like students again.

Speaker 9 (06:30):
You've regressed.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
Yesterday at 9 o'clock rummaging through the freezer.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
Then I couldn't be bothered. This morning I had to
go back into the garage. This is at 5 a.m.
Rummaging through the freezer. I don't want beef. I don't
want chicken.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
What am I doing with the chicken?

Speaker 6 (06:43):
And then it takes too long to defrost.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
Yes, yes.

Speaker 6 (06:46):
Uber Eats at that point.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
So you did all your meal prepping for the week?
Meal prepping.

Speaker 5 (06:50):
I think I've mentioned the man kibble before, which I'm
going to get you all on board for at some stage,
which is the mincemeat and the lots of vegetables. It's
just a really nice protein food.

Speaker 6 (06:57):
I know it sounds.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
Listen, I think this is the kind of shark tank.
I'm out.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
Also, anything called man kibble, that feels like a night somewhere–
In a back street in Sydney.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
Tonight, man kibble.

Speaker 5 (07:12):
But the reason why I lost a point is because
I got into a case of, I went to the
gym in the afternoon, a case of the, whose bench
is it? Who got to the bench first for the
bench press?

Speaker 1 (07:21):
Oh, you do bench work, do you?

Speaker 5 (07:23):
Well, ever so slightly, just a little bit. I'm just,
I'm learning it anyway.

Speaker 6 (07:27):
It's, we will go there.

Speaker 5 (07:29):
Basically I walked there at the exact same time as
another person. It was that sort of moment of, were
you first?

Speaker 1 (07:34):
After you, no, after you.

Speaker 5 (07:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
And you got two alphas.

Speaker 6 (07:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
Yes, it was a lot bigger than I was.

Speaker 5 (07:40):
Anyway, I just sort of made a bit of a joke,
which I, oh, let's rock, paper, scissors for it, which
he said, no, no, you can just have it. And
I just felt, I felt defeated that no one wanted
to play rock, paper, scissors with me at the gym whatsoever.
So even though I won by getting the bench, I
still felt like a little bit of a loser. So
that's why I've taken my point off for myself on
this wonderful Monday.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Sadly, Pete, what happens is you've done a nice thing.
The atmosphere in some gyms is way too serious, isn't it?

Speaker 8 (08:08):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
You know, there's guys in there taking it so seriously.
You can tell they're listening to like a Joe Rogan podcast.
It's all just too much.

Speaker 6 (08:16):
They've got that pre-workout which is made.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
They've got about 18 different shakes. That angel dust pre-workout.
They've got a pre-workout one, post-workout, their mainlining career team.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
It's just too much going on.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
And also, there's a lot of guys, it's the younger guys,
it's like the 20-somethings, who mainly just look at themselves
in the mirror.

Speaker 6 (08:37):
Yes, what is that?

Speaker 1 (08:38):
I mean, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
I reckon 80% of the day is preening themselves in
the mirror. I've got to be honest, when it gets
to my age, I don't want to see myself in
the mirror.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
Unless there's a filter on this, smash the mirrors.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
I know we talk about our recommendations on a Friday
on the show, but I saw something last night. It
was on the other week, and I missed it, and
I heard perhaps you had some of the mum.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
Talking in the news yesterday.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
Leah Stewart is the mum who fought off a four-metre
great white shark to save her own life, and she
was thinking about her child and how she punched repeatedly
a four-metre great white shark. I watched the 60 Minutes
interview with her. You should all watch it. It's something else.

Speaker 6 (09:25):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
What a story.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
The whole thing, the fact that she's alive on 60 Minutes,
going back to the beach, and you meet all the
other people that saved her life as well. It is
a testament to the bravery and courage of a mom.
There's nothing like the fierce love of a mom.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
It is incredible.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
The only reason she thought to punch the shark in
the nose is she saw an interview years ago of
Mick Fanning.

Speaker 6 (09:46):
Yes yeah yeah.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
Saying that he did the same thing because someone had
told him they've got lots of nerve endings in their
nose and it came to in a half second to
just punch them in the nose she goes i've got
no facts about that i just remember seeing mick fanning
to him mick must have inside knowledge he's in the
sea that's his office it's the ocean it.

Speaker 6 (10:05):
Worked for mick it worked for her that is so
great oh.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
My god the story is unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
The fact that she's alive as well is, the thing
that's so moving about the story is her incredible courage
and bravery. And then just so many, I don't know
what it is where the universe conspired to save that
mum's life.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
Leah Stewart. Because.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
There was a world champion paddle boarder who's also a
lifesaver who just happened to be there.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
Wow.

Speaker 12 (10:29):
Right?

Speaker 2 (10:29):
And then there was Australia's leading trauma surgeon, right, was
on the beach. He's a British guy. He's like one
of the world's leading trauma surgeons. He is in this country.
He happens to be there. If he hadn't been there,
she would have bled out.

Speaker 10 (10:42):
Right.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
They couldn't find a pulse. And so because he's a
trauma surgeon, happened to be on the scene, on the beach.
It just gives you goosebumps thinking about this. He drilled
into her bone marrow.

Speaker 1 (10:54):
To save her life.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
What?

Speaker 1 (10:55):
There and then.

Speaker 6 (10:56):
On the beach? Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
Because she was dying. Oh, my God. There was no pulse.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
They couldn't get a pulse to put the meds in
while they were waiting for the trauma surgeons in the
helicopter to come. He actually drilled new to do that
because he's a trauma surgeon. They were saying if he
wasn't there, she wouldn't have survived. All these people just
happened to be there.

Speaker 6 (11:15):
It wasn't in time.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
Or not.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
No, it wasn't, perhaps.

Speaker 12 (11:18):
No.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
Honestly, you'll be in tears watching this 60 Minutes. It's incredible.

Speaker 6 (11:22):
That is amazing.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
And when she goes back to the beach and how
she feels about it all and she's reunited with the
people that saved her life. It's a beautiful story. Really
incredible story. It's up there on YouTube. 60 Minutes, the
Leah Stewart story. It is inspirational stuff.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
The Christian O'Connell Show. Go on. Podcast.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
This is some move by the producers here. The Chuckle
Sisters have really come up trumps here. If you've got allergies,
you'd really want to win a load of flowers, wouldn't you?
Today's extra time waster is allergy songs.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
They've got here the prize. $ 250 worth of flowers for everyone.
That is genius.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
We should give away a year's supply of tissues from
Chemist's Warehouse.

Speaker 1 (12:09):
To help you with the sneezing. Wowee. Chuckle on, chuckle sisters.
How do they do it? Incredible.

Speaker 6 (13:09):

Speaker 12 (13:11):
Why?

Speaker 6 (13:11):
Because of his song, Achoo Can It Be Now.

Speaker 1 (13:14):
Oh, very good. It's a doubler, two golds. Okay.

Speaker 6 (13:20):
It was the rash.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
It was the monster rash. No, the monster rash. Very good.
Well done for committing to the bit as well. Gold.

The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

think extra pollen. That's what these people want. And that's

(13:52):
the price. Thanks to flowers for everyone.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
All right.

Speaker 2 (13:59):
By the way, Higo does the show after us. Fantastic presenter.

Silver.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
Mould time rock and roll.

Speaker 10 (14:43):
Mould?

Speaker 1 (14:43):
Mould. You can get allergies from mould. Sports, yeah. It's
a big world, the world of allergies, my friend. Have
some flowers. Itching you, itching me. Bohemian Rashidi.

Oh, wow. Gesundheit and Malady? What a show.

Speaker 5 (15:03):
Shut up.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
Christian, George Michael had allergies. I didn't know that, Keith.
He wants to wake him up before you blow blow.

Speaker 6 (15:13):
I don't know if that was allergies.

Speaker 13 (15:17):
Cold.

Speaker 1 (15:17):
It was allergies. That's why he had that Kleenex on
the go, okay? Pink eye for a white guy.

Speaker 6 (15:22):
Oh, my goodness. Funny bit bronze.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
Claritine after time.

Speaker 9 (15:26):

Speaker 2 (15:54):
Well done, Adam. You're today's winner. You win the flowers.
Thanks to flowers to everyone. Brand new time waste this morning. 8.30.
Geek movies.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 2 (16:05):
This Friday at the NCG, Ellie Rams take on the
San Francisco 49ers. What has been lovely is to see
the genuine love, appreciation, and enthusiasm for not just the
coaches and the players of the 49ers. The Rams aren't
here yet. They've decided what falls to fly over the

(16:25):
day before the game. 16-hour flight. You barely sleep on
those long hauls. I was thinking someone who's done a
lot going back to the U.K., You don't sleep very well.
And they're all being on a flatbed, I know, but
you won't sleep very well. Sport is a game of
increments and margins. They're going to turn up knackered, and
then there's the massive time difference, jet lagged.

Speaker 6 (16:43):
Yeah, they'll be groggy.

Speaker 1 (16:44):
And they've got massive apes smashing into you.

Speaker 8 (16:46):
It feels like a bit of a slap in the
face as well. It's like, you don't want to spend
some time over here? You'd rather be jet lagged?

Speaker 2 (16:52):
49ers were down the road yesterday at Amy Park having
their first practice, and they've been going around the city.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
Now, I don't know how much it cost.

Speaker 2 (16:59):
Melbourne to have it here for the next couple of years,
but I think that is a great tourism move. You've
got all these Australian commentators, bloggers, and sports reporters in
Melbourne this week going around, hanging out, discovering what a
great city it is in Australia, and falling in love
with it. Like this guy, who I've now started following
on social media, writes for Sports Illustrated, one of the
biggest sports magazines in the world. Grant Cone is going

(17:23):
around basically eating and drinking his way around Melbourne.

Speaker 1 (17:26):
It's a great week.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
He's fallen in love. Just listen to him rave about this.
He went for fish and chips this week in Melbourne.

Speaker 13 (17:33):
I'm back on my Australia quest. This time I'm getting
a late lunch at Hunky Dory and I'm getting fish and.

Speaker 9 (17:39):
Chips, which we have in America.

Speaker 13 (17:41):
It's usually cod or snapper. So what I got on
my plate, I have flake, Australian flake, which is fried
and battered shark. I got two potato cakes, which some
Australians call potato scallops. I also got a calamari ring
and a seafood stick, which is fried and battered crab meat.

Speaker 1 (18:04):
How much food did you eat?

Speaker 13 (18:06):
Which are French fries and they are covered in chicken salt,
which I don't know what that is.

Speaker 9 (18:12):
Never heard of it, but it sounds great. This is delicious.
That's fantastic. I don't know what I was expecting. I
thought it would be tough. You know, get off my table, Mr.

Speaker 13 (18:21):
Pigeon.

Speaker 9 (18:22):
Because, you know, sharks are tough. Do you not have Heinz?
Have you not heard of Heinz? Do you not like Heinz?
What is the deal? I feel like Americans would flip
out if ketchup ceased to exist. This is delicious.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
On the plate is Christian McCaffrey. They're all falling in
love with the coffee.

Speaker 9 (18:37):
Oh, it's been great.

Speaker 12 (18:38):
Yeah, the coffee's unbelievable. I don't know why nobody talked
about that as much as they should have beforehand. Coffee's
been great. Food's awesome. The people are really nice. Yeah,
I mean, it's been a really, really cool experience for
all of us.

Speaker 2 (18:52):
The power of this as an advert to come to
Australia and explore it is brilliant. This is the 49ers coach,
Carl Shannon, trying to get his head around time travel
because when you do fly to Australia, it is like
time travel.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
It's not going to another planet.

Speaker 9 (19:05):
Is there something about Australia that surprised you the most
so far?

Speaker 14 (19:09):
Yeah, that I don't see kangaroos and crocodiles everywhere. I
was expecting to see that and it looks like a
very normal, cool city. When I look at my clock
and it says the time, and then I try to
see my family's time, and it says the time, but
it says yesterday.

Speaker 1 (19:21):
I don't even get how that's possible.

Speaker 14 (19:24):
So I feel like I'm in the future. And then
also when we play on our Friday, which I think
is a Thursday in the U.S., we're such creatures of habit.
So I call today Tuesday. No, wait, sorry, I call
today Wednesday, which is the first day we put in
a game plan. But I think it's Monday. However, though,
it's Sunday in the present. I'm going to mess that
up all week if you guys ask me. But today
is just our first day of the game plan, which
is a Wednesday. We'll put in some on a Thursday. Saturday,

(19:46):
we walk there when we play on Sunday, which is
a Friday in Australia and a Thursday in the US.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
So don't ever make me do that again.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
I'll tell you what, they're so much more entertaining at
press conferences as well.

Speaker 1 (19:57):
This guy could be standard. He's killing up there.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
And then one of the coaches celebrated his birthday on
the flight over and lost it.

Speaker 10 (20:04):
Raheem Morris turned 50 years old. Last Wednesday, he turned
50 the day that they were in the air, and
he lost his 50th birthday due to the travel that
they had to Australia. So he didn't really have much
of a 50th birthday, but that's the way it goes
for the opener.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
I guess Australia to Americans will be the strange and
very foreign land. I saw yesterday on the news they
were saying 60% of Americans don't own a passport.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (20:33):
So they really don't understand the wrestler world. I think
they still think the Queen is alive and running the UK.
And this place, they've got no idea. Which is why
they're like, wait, you've got coffee? Oh my God, it's
flipping amazing. It's like a child discovering things. I've got
an article here that one of them wrote yesterday, the
good and not so good about Australia that I'll share

(20:53):
with you all next.

Speaker 3 (20:55):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
American football this Friday at the MCG. Amazing scenes.

Speaker 2 (21:01):
And the Americans that are here this week with the
49ers and all the contingency of all the many, many
sports supporters, bloggers and writers are falling in love with Australia.
It's a brilliant advert. Back home to America. They're like
kind of ambassadors to US. Selling Australia. I've got an
article here that I read yesterday that made me laugh.
The good and not so good about Australia. These are

(21:22):
not my words. These are of an American. I want
to get on a show called Grant Con. Have a
listen to this.

Speaker 1 (21:27):
See what you think. The good and not so good
about Australia.

Speaker 2 (21:29):
I've been in Australia three days, which now makes me
an expert on the continent and its culture. Here's the
good and not so good about it. This is from
sports writer Grant Kahn.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
The good, the accent.

Speaker 2 (21:40):
It's not like Scotland where people allegedly speak English, but
the accent is so thick it sounds like another language.
I can understand Australians. And their accent is fun. Every
vowel is an adventure. It will start with one sound,
then slide to a completely different sound in the same syllable.

Speaker 1 (21:57):
The coffee.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
It's as good or better than the coffee on the
west coast of America. It's not served with half and half.
Half and half is like.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
Full cream and.

Speaker 4 (22:06):
And skim.

Speaker 1 (22:06):
And skim, isn't it?

Speaker 3 (22:07):
That's crazy.

Speaker 1 (22:08):
Wow. What a way to ruin a drink.

Speaker 2 (22:11):
They serve it black, sort of like an Americana, or
they make something called a flat white, which is kind
of like a latte.

Speaker 1 (22:16):
Both are delicious. Three, meat pies. Amazing. They're everywhere.

Speaker 2 (22:20):
You can get a mass-produced microwave 4 and 20 meat
pie at the stadium. slather it in ketchup and eat
it in 30 seconds and you won't die we've got
to get on the show it's a funny dude or
you can get a really tasty one from a bakery
and enjoy it i had the 4 and 20 version
pot and a palmer the pot it's a small nine
ounce glass of beer so it doesn't get cold and

(22:40):
the palmer is go-to pub food in australia it's essentially
chicken parmesan with some ham on it so it's like
chicken palm cordon bleu it's way better than it should
be Australian rules football. He's fallen in love with Australian
rules football. There are 36 punters varying five foot eight
to six foot ten running a half marathon whilst constantly

(23:02):
punting and punching the ball with tackling from any direction.
Punt through the sticks more than the other guys to win.
Very good explanation of all these players are deadly accurate
at punting. I don't know what game he went to.
He hasn't seen any of these games. He wouldn't say
deadly accurate. LAUGHTER It's a game that meshes unusual skills

(23:23):
with toughness and violence.

Speaker 1 (23:25):
I'm hooked.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
MCG is where the 49 round will play. It seats
about 100,000 people. The field is a giant oval, which
is roughly 200 yards long. We don't have fields like
this in America. It looks like a battlefield from medieval times.
And they sell those delicious meat pies here. And then
he's falling in love with Patrick Dangerfield. One of the
best plays on the Geelong Cats, which is essentially a

(23:48):
suburb of Melbourne. And home to my favourite team in
the AFL since I learned about the sport two days ago.
This guy is 36 years old and still kicks ass.
He took over a game two nights ago against Carlton
Blues by scoring five goals. It was one of my
best performances I've ever seen in my two days of
watching the sport.

Speaker 1 (24:05):
The not so good. The driving.

Speaker 2 (24:07):
This is every person's experience when you move here. You're
terrible drivers.

Speaker 6 (24:12):
Excuse me.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
Number two, magpies. Gorgeous black and white birds. They will
swoop down and ruin your day. LAUGHTER The metric system.
I don't know what the temperature is outside or how
much weight I'm lifting at the gym or how fast
I'm going on the treadmill.

Speaker 1 (24:26):
And then this is an interesting one.

Speaker 2 (24:29):
The burritos. This is what Australia isn't great at.

Speaker 6 (24:33):
I'll agree with that.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
Really? Yes.

Speaker 8 (24:35):
Because we just don't have a big Mexican population in
Australia like they do in America. And the burritos over
there are something else.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
Really?

Speaker 11 (24:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (24:43):
As I wrote before, Australia and California have a ton
in common. Mexican food is not one of them. I
went to a Mexican place yesterday and said it was
Mission-style place, so I was intrigued. But the burrito was 50%
sour cream, and the lady at the register wouldn't give
me any salsa to go, which hurt my feelings. Is
it because I'm American?

Speaker 3 (25:05):
The Christian O'Connell Show.

Speaker 8 (25:07):
Go on.

Speaker 3 (25:08):
Podcast.

Speaker 2 (25:10):
Christian, I've been enjoying all the San Francisco 49ers stuff.
They all sound so lovely and funny. Also, it's really nice.
Have anyone been just bagging on Melbourne? for last year
they have it's actually really nice um people discovering with
fresh eyes and seeing all the lovely things about it
as well kate beautifully said christian um uh half and
half is not half full cream half skim i made

(25:31):
that assumption my first trip to the u.s it's worse
it's actually half milk half cream oh yeah that's every
drink yeah hello diabetes um yeah All right, we're going
to get in June next half an hour.

Speaker 1 (25:44):
We're going to do signed.

Speaker 2 (25:45):
You're an adult team. I had a very big adulting
day yesterday. I have changed an outside light bulb.

Speaker 1 (25:54):
Well done. Thank you, guys. Thank you for seeing me.
Not just that, I had to unscrew the outer casing.

Speaker 9 (26:01):
That's the hottest part.

Speaker 2 (26:02):
And then I managed to get the bulb out, take
a photo of it, ask ChatGPT what, The hell is this?

Speaker 1 (26:10):
What dis? What dis?

Speaker 14 (26:12):
What?

Speaker 2 (26:14):
AI told me it's a light bulb. It's an E27,
warm white. Why are light bulbs so complicated now?

Speaker 1 (26:21):
Years ago, it used to be the wattage system, which
worked universally all around the world. Now it's lumens. I
don't know what a lumen is.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
Kelvins, E27. How does that help me in Bunnings? So
I go to them and ask them, where are the E27s?
And then it's like, do I want cool white? AI
didn't know.

Speaker 1 (26:40):
It said it's either cool white or warm white.

Speaker 9 (26:42):
What?

Speaker 15 (26:44):
I just want an outside light. Warm white is not
a nightclub. It's not mood lighting. It's an outside light.
I don't know whether it's warm or... What's the difference
between warm white and cool white?

Speaker 4 (26:55):
I've given up on the light bulb purchasing.

Speaker 1 (26:57):
That's a nightmare, isn't it?

Speaker 4 (26:58):
I'll leave that to the love god. It's just too hard.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
No, that's what my wife said to me.

Speaker 2 (27:01):
On a Sunday evening, it's my dreaded chat where my
wife sits down and allocates tasks.

Speaker 1 (27:06):
And it is... It's more like boarding school.

Speaker 8 (27:08):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (27:08):
Well, that's what marriage is after 28 years, actually. And
not a lot of fun after the lights out. Bunk beds.
We're in bunk beds now. Anyway.

Speaker 2 (27:18):
It's basically very low level, very low level maintenance skills.
Hence the light bulb. Can you sort that out? And
I was like, you should be able to do that yourself.
You'll have to find your screwdriver. That took 10 minutes.

(27:40):
Where is my screwdriver? A man, an actual man would
probably have some of these. Good to go somewhere.

Speaker 1 (27:46):
Where is it?

Speaker 6 (27:47):
Well done.

Speaker 1 (27:48):
Honestly, I felt so proud.

Speaker 2 (27:50):
I almost brought the old light bulb into work today
for like a show and tell.

Speaker 1 (27:55):
Behold!

Speaker 2 (27:57):
I have done an adult thing yesterday in my day.
All right, signs you're an adult coming up next.

Speaker 3 (28:04):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 2 (28:07):
Once a week, we look for the signs, you know,
when you're finally an adult. For Steve, go into a
new caravan show. Sean, the joy of putting a new
toothbrush on your electric toothbrush, the replacement head.

Speaker 1 (28:24):
Chloe, paying your rates.

Speaker 3 (28:27):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
Yeah, it is.

Speaker 4 (28:29):
It's very sobering.

Speaker 1 (28:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (28:30):
Donna, when you sneak in your own flask of tea
to the movies. I didn't know you could do that.
Now I know, Donna.

Speaker 1 (28:38):
I'd love that. The Odyssey could have been a different
experience to me.

Speaker 6 (28:42):
A little hip flask.

Speaker 1 (28:43):
Some tea in there.

Speaker 13 (28:44):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (28:46):
Louise, when you can't bear to throw out a good box,
like a gift box, delivery box or Christmas hamper box,
I always think this might come in handy one day. Yes,
in our garage, there's a pile of boxes. They are beautiful.

Speaker 1 (28:59):
Boxes, actually. They're sturdy.

Speaker 2 (29:02):
You know, you fill them and this can handle some weight.

Speaker 1 (29:08):
Ria, what is it for you?

Speaker 8 (29:09):
For me, it's now at dinner parties we start busting
out the dessert wine.

Speaker 1 (29:14):
Oh, wow. Dessert wine? And you think us poms are fancy? Hello,
Sydney cider.

Speaker 8 (29:23):
No more kick-ons in the backyard. It's just bust out
the Moscato.

Speaker 6 (29:28):
Oh, would you like a little sip? Oh, not too sweet,
this one.

Speaker 3 (29:31):
Yum.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
Nice way to end a meal, isn't it, dessert wine? Yes,
it's lovely. Yeah, very, very sweet.

Speaker 2 (29:36):
It's actually like liquid dessert is the dessert wine.

Speaker 1 (29:39):
It's high in sugar, isn't it?

Speaker 6 (29:42):
Do you call them stickies, Patsy?

Speaker 2 (29:44):
No, I don't.

Speaker 4 (29:44):
My friends call them stickies.

Speaker 9 (29:46):
Really?

Speaker 4 (29:46):
Is that what they're calling them now?

Speaker 6 (29:48):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (29:48):
Stickies. What kind of dessert wine do you like?

Speaker 6 (29:50):
We had a Moscato was the last one we had.

Speaker 1 (29:53):
And have you got a special glass for it? No,
what sort of glass should we get? You're meant to
have a fine glass.

Speaker 4 (29:58):
Oh, are you?

Speaker 1 (29:59):
Yeah, you're not pouring it into a pot, are you?

Speaker 6 (30:01):
No, just like a cup.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
No, you're meant to have dessert wine glasses.

Speaker 1 (30:05):
Oh, I really do.

Speaker 13 (30:06):
Yes, yes.

Speaker 1 (30:07):
Like a small sherry one.

Speaker 6 (30:08):
Oh, yes.

Speaker 1 (30:09):
Oh, that's not enough. Yeah, I don't have them.

Speaker 6 (30:12):
That's not enough, Patsy. No, I'm with Patsy.

Speaker 1 (30:15):
And who's this for, a child?

Speaker 6 (30:16):
That's my goblet.

Speaker 4 (30:19):
Maybe for a port or a sherry.

Speaker 3 (30:20):
Yes.

Speaker 4 (30:21):
No, not for a Moscato.

Speaker 1 (30:22):
You're a pint of it.

Speaker 4 (30:23):
Balloon glasses.

Speaker 1 (30:24):
Put in a shoe and do a shoeie. Dessert wine shoe. Patsy,
what's it for you, mate? What's the sign you're an adult?

Speaker 7 (30:30):
We are late to the party with this, but we've
just got a new dishwasher with a cuttle redrawer at
the top of it. So we normally would just have
the basket, but this has got the pull-out drawer.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
Game changer, isn't it?

Speaker 10 (30:40):
Oh!

Speaker 4 (30:41):
I didn't think. I was actually anti-cuttle redraw when we
went shopping.

Speaker 1 (30:45):
Wow, every time you say that word.

Speaker 2 (30:47):
I know.

Speaker 4 (30:47):
I see I'm carefully saying it, right?

Speaker 8 (30:49):
Are you?

Speaker 1 (30:49):
No, you're not.

Speaker 4 (30:51):
I'm trying to.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
I'm thinking of cuttlefish. You've got to draw to wash
your cuttlefish.

Speaker 6 (30:55):
I'm overcorrecting.

Speaker 4 (30:57):
But I thought, oh, I don't know if they're any good,
but I love it.

Speaker 1 (31:00):
It's much easier, Pat's.

Speaker 2 (31:02):
Chaos when it all just goes down and they face
up or face down. And do you think where I
will organize this, all the knives go together. And then
when it's done, you grab and drop, grab and drop,
grab and drop.

Speaker 1 (31:14):
Repeat after me.

Speaker 4 (31:15):
Grab and drop.

Speaker 1 (31:16):
Pete did nothing.

Speaker 2 (31:17):
He was just doing his own solo thing there. I'm
trying to turn this into a rock band. Pete's doing jazz.

Speaker 4 (31:22):
But it's fantastic. And then it frees up the basket space.
For more like pops and pans.

Speaker 1 (31:29):
Bowls, plates, all those dessert glasses.

Speaker 4 (31:31):
Just discovering this now. It'll change your life.

Speaker 1 (31:34):
It genuinely is. It actually is a game changer. Intern Pete,
what is a sign of being an adult for you?

Speaker 5 (31:41):
It happened to me at Aldi the other day where
I was able to pick up the perfect six-pack ice cream.

Speaker 9 (31:45):
Hand of bananas.

Speaker 5 (31:46):
For me, the number six, when you can just walk over, bang,
I got six in one go. And it just brought
me so much joy.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
There's a lot of bananas for someone who lives by himself.
What are you doing with them all? Well, one a day.
One a day. Hopefully eating them. Well, you have one
banana a day. I do have a banana a day.

Speaker 6 (32:00):
They're so stodgy.

Speaker 1 (32:01):
What do you mean?

Speaker 7 (32:02):
They're great.

Speaker 1 (32:03):
They're always so heavy to me.

Speaker 6 (32:04):
You know what they used to do?

Speaker 8 (32:05):
There was an Australian cricketer, Peter Siddle, very famous bowler.
He used to eat 17 bananas a day.

Speaker 4 (32:11):
What?

Speaker 6 (32:11):
17? 17, yeah.

Speaker 1 (32:13):
To me, they're like the Mars Bar, the Fruit World.

Speaker 9 (32:16):
No.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
Can't they do mini-nanas?

Speaker 5 (32:19):
We have the best bananas in the world, by the way,
Australian bananas.

Speaker 2 (32:22):
Well, hopefully the Yanks are over here this week, the 49ers,
because we'll see a video going up within an hour
or two of them raving about Aussie bananas.

Speaker 5 (32:30):
Give 17 a go tomorrow, right?

Speaker 3 (32:32):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 2 (32:36):
Signed, your adult, Ryan McKenzie. I get excited now at
40 going to Chemist Warehouse.

Speaker 1 (32:42):
Welcome.

Speaker 2 (32:44):
Christian, the gentleman at Bunnings told me at the weekend
that if you've got the Bunnings app and you need
to find a product like you did with the bulb yesterday,
and that product has a digital barcode, you scan it
in the app, it will light up. the exact location
in Bunnings.

Speaker 1 (32:59):
Where it is waiting for you.

Speaker 6 (33:01):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (33:01):
He told me it's called pinging the location. That is genius.
And the fact that you all went, oh.

Speaker 8 (33:08):
The Woolworths app as well, if you put your item
in your grocery list and you click it, it'll buzz
when you walk past it.

Speaker 1 (33:16):
You're kidding.

Speaker 6 (33:16):
So you're putting your couscous and it'll vibrate when you
walk past it.

Speaker 2 (33:19):
After what is today to my shop, I will download
the app. That's the other thing now is apps are
deeply practical, aren't they? They're not like those fun goofs
that apps used to be. No, it's not Angry Birds.

Speaker 1 (33:33):
Christian, Sanjay and Adam, my new obsession, bonsai plants.

Speaker 6 (33:36):
Do you know what?

Speaker 2 (33:37):
I brought a book over the weekend about how to
start building and making your own terrarium.

Speaker 6 (33:44):
Oh, yes, Sanjay and Adam.

Speaker 1 (33:45):
Those wide jars. I don't know where you get the
wide jar from.

Speaker 6 (33:49):
Discount shops.

Speaker 4 (33:52):
The $ 2 shots.

Speaker 1 (33:53):
Actually, you're right.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
Maybe your mate's Kmart or something like that. But yeah,
I've got a book on how to start your own terrarium.

Speaker 6 (33:59):
I'm excited to see your terrarium era.

Speaker 1 (34:01):
Yeah, I might start making some of the giveaway's prizes.

Speaker 2 (34:04):
Christian, I find myself constantly discussing with my patients how much.

Speaker 1 (34:09):
We need rain and other weather events. Yeah, that's an
adult move, isn't it? Anytime it rains, you go, the
