The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
Good morning, Patsy.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Morning, everyone.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
Good morning, Rio. Good morning. And welcome to our hero
of the day.
Speaker 5 (01:19):
Very good morning.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Sydney Marathon winner. He won the marathon.
Speaker 5 (01:24):
Won the whole thing.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
That's it.
Speaker 5 (01:26):
Thanks for having me on the program.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
And rightly so. You're wearing your medal. If I'd have
done a marathon, right, I'd wear that every day for
the rest of the year. Yeah, totally. It's incredible. And
yesterday was a stunning, beautiful day in Sydney.
Speaker 6 (01:37):
Incredible weather, incredible atmosphere. And yes, it's a very heavy
metal too. Like they have not mucked around. Well, they
have mucked up one thing, which is the Germany stadium,
which is a very special edition.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
But you can just lie down and say you did
both marathons. You've done a German one and the Sydney
one in the same day. So how do you feel?
You look. So much better than I thought. Yesterday you
were in good form, but that might have been all
the beer you were drinking. Rapidly rehydrating, I have to say,
and just eating everything. I did.
Speaker 5 (02:05):
I ate a burger.
Speaker 6 (02:06):
I ate a steak. I ate some fried chicken. And
then I devoured a lasagna when I got home.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
He was doing that. What's that hot dog eating competition? Koyamashi.
Joey Chestnut. Joey Chestnut.
Speaker 5 (02:16):
I know. I know. It's the one rule after a marathon.
Speaker 6 (02:19):
You get to eat whatever you like. They reckon for
a couple of days, just with all the.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
And where I was when I came to meet you,
everyone was sat outside. It's a stunning day. You know,
I know. Spring starts officially Tuesday, isn't it, 1st September? Tomorrow, yeah.
But it really felt like spring had started yesterday.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
And I noticed a lot of places were giving people
who'd done the marathon their first drink for free. That's right.
Speaker 5 (02:40):
If you had a medal, you got a free drink.
A lot of those pubs. It was such a, like,
I mean, there was no policing of it. I think
it was a lot of honesty as well.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
So... Because of which you stole a medal. Okay.
Speaker 5 (02:50):
Well, I was going to.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
I was going to... Well, okay. So I have two... Oh,
Light Fingers Depler. Yeah, I.
Speaker 5 (02:56):
Okay, I'll be honest with you.
Speaker 6 (02:57):
I did steal two medals, so I have one for myself.
Speaker 5 (03:00):
How did that happen to you?
Speaker 1 (03:01):
There's not someone wandering around right now looking for a medal,
is there?
Speaker 5 (03:04):
Oh, I hope not. Surely not. They have printed out
some extra ones.
Speaker 6 (03:06):
I just thought it's such a momentous medal with the
mistake on it that it might be nice to keep
another one for myself as well.
Speaker 5 (03:13):
Where did you get it? Well, what I did.
Speaker 6 (03:17):
Was I took it off when they gave it to
me and put it in my pocket and then did
a loop around again and then got another one.
Speaker 5 (03:23):
But there was sort of an accident as well, you
know what I mean?
Speaker 7 (03:26):
It fell into your pocket.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
I'll tell you what we should do with this extra
medal you've got. We should give it away as a
prize today. What an amazing prize. Win a Sydney Marathon medal.
Some of them had a very tough weekend. They deserve
a Marathon medal. juggling home and kids and stuff like that.
They deserve a marathon medal as well.
Speaker 7 (03:44):
Yes, we've all been doing our separate marathon.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Oh, my God, yes. So what was the highlight yesterday, Pete?
Speaker 6 (03:49):
Highlight would definitely have to be, I think it was
just coming into that opera house and the people screaming.
Speaker 5 (03:55):
You feel like they're all there for you.
Speaker 6 (03:56):
And they're cheering on their own friends, but the supporters
and the volunteers and everyone's just erupting around you. To
run into that Sydney Opera House, being one of the
most iconic places in the world, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
How beautiful.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
I did that 42.4.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
Not a cloud in the sky.
Speaker 5 (04:11):
It was just unreal. And I was really sort of about.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
What do you feel, relief or just this euphoria? What
do you feel?
Speaker 6 (04:18):
I was cooked for about the last five kilometers. Like
could not absolutely for the life of me.
Speaker 5 (04:23):
I was crying. It was terrible.
Speaker 6 (04:25):
I was like, what have I done? I was limping
to the end. But then, and that last maybe 20 meters.
I decided to do a little dance as I went around.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
Why not? Sashay away.
Speaker 5 (04:34):
I had it in me. That was, it was just
such a highlight. Just absolutely loved it. And so many,
so many moments along the.
Speaker 6 (04:41):
Way that I'll just, I'll cherish forever. And got to nominate, sorry,
shout out to all the listeners that got a K
per person. And I was, I have to say like
Maggie at the 30 K mark, she really hit me
because she said such kind words last week as well.
But it was about the 35km mark when I saw
people going down. They just kept going down and down.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
You see this in all marathons all over the world
where they just literally hit that wall.
Speaker 6 (05:04):
It's terrible to see because there's so many paramedics. And
it was like they knew that's where people start to
fall as well. So we saw a lot of people
go down. But no one walked past anyone to make
sure anyone was not okay.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Do you know what I mean?
Speaker 8 (05:15):
So that was really, really, really important. I thought it
was just fantastic. It looked like there was an incredible
atmosphere the whole way. People cheering strangers on and anyone...
running by, looked like they were struggling as well.
Speaker 6 (05:25):
I have to apologise to Randwick. I said that was
a boring area last week, but it was actually quite
a little highlight of that area. There's a lot more
spectators this year. So apologies for the comments last week.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
Maybe they just come out and force to boo you
as you walk past me.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Throw tomatoes at him.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
Absolutely. As a treat, because, you know, it is genuinely
an amazing thing that you've done and you smashed it.
Well done. We actually have got you a chiropractor this morning.
This is wild.
Speaker 5 (05:47):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
That guy doesn't look like a normal chiropractor. He's jacked.
He is jacked. He's like a heavyweight UFC champion. He's
a Julian. Rhea might be jumping on that table with
him as well. But guys, please just try and keep
it upright today.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
How was Steel Magnolias? I've never seen it. It came
from Intern Pete's recommendation. Double thumbs up.
Speaker 7 (06:14):
Such a great movie.
Speaker 9 (06:15):
Well, that's what, on Saturday night, we were looking for
something wholesome, something breezy. Obviously, Dolly Parton was an added bonus.
And I said to my partner, Will, I said, Pete,
won't shut up about Steel Magnolias.
Speaker 7 (06:26):
Apparently, it's an incredible movie, really wholesome, really fun.
Speaker 9 (06:29):
We'll love it. Perfect Saturday night flick. And it is
for an hour. It is just a lovely, breezy, like lovable,
great cast. And then out of the blue, I won't
say any spoilers, but.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Well, I think it's right. He put her up to speed.
No one is thinking this new movie. I must say,
it's up against the Odyssey.
Speaker 5 (06:51):
Be honest, Rio.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
The last half hour, suddenly- Someone must get very ill,
I'm guessing. Yes.
Speaker 7 (06:56):
Shelby, Julia Roberts' character, gets very ill and happens- She's
the youngest.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
One in it.
Speaker 7 (07:00):
She's the youngest one in it.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
Not the young one, though. Jodie, and who is it?
Shirley MacLaine?
Speaker 5 (07:04):
Not needed in the sequel.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
They killed off the younger hot one, Julia Roberts.
Speaker 9 (07:09):
Like an emotional drive-by. You're not expecting everything's- Happy, sunshine,
then suddenly whack. And the last half an hour is
just unrelenting, like brutally sad over and over again. It
gets worse and worse and more harrowing and devastating.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
How would anyone make themselves through this? I was a mess.
I literally cried for half an hour. Did you not
Google it to see what the story was about?
Speaker 9 (07:28):
No, but you could see the, I don't know, the
front cover of the movie looked just like a happy-go-lucky, fun, breezy.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
But you could have gone and seen Jason Statham's new movie, Mutiny.
It probably would have been. I already booked my ticket
to see that this week. I cannot wait.
Speaker 7 (07:41):
I haven't even heard of that.
Speaker 9 (07:42):
What?
Speaker 7 (07:42):
It has not been on the cultural radar.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
Well, for you, you're the one having a miserable night
watching Steel Magnonius. When I'm with State this week, it
won't be, well, we'll be relentlessly violent. That's my kind
of Steel Magnonius. But you should have told us, Pete.
Speaker 5 (08:01):
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 7 (08:02):
Oh, my God. I didn't expect it.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
But anyone knows. Patsy, how do you rate Steel Magnonius?
Speaker 7 (08:05):
Oh, I love it.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
Sally Field's performance in.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
That was absolutely brilliant. Sally Field, she's great in everything.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Oh, she's amazing in this.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
She can do comedy really well. She's brilliant in Mrs.
Doubtfire as well.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
She's incredible.
Speaker 6 (08:18):
I think when I got the text message from you
saying F you, not telling me about it.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Strongly worded review.
Speaker 5 (08:25):
He was like, why did you not tell me that?
Speaker 1 (08:27):
F you, Shirley MacLaine. It's a strongly worded review.
Speaker 5 (08:29):
I'm sorry I didn't mean it like that, but you
know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (08:31):
Like, just.
Speaker 6 (08:32):
I was like, oh, I kind of did forget about
the death part because I always focused on the positive
parts in the hair.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
Well, you wouldn't have told him anyway at the start
because then he wouldn't have, like, has a big spoiler alert.
Speaker 5 (08:40):
Yeah, definitely want a spoiler alert.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
What a lovely spoiler alert it would have been, right?
By the way, it gets real sad.
Speaker 5 (08:47):
I was sobbing.
Speaker 7 (08:48):
I was actually like.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Welcome to your Saturday night.
Speaker 5 (08:51):
You have to watch it, Christian.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
No, I have not. You've got to watch it. If
I have to watch it, you have to watch it.
All right, then I'm going to watch it this week.
Speaker 7 (08:57):
I'll watch Mutiny, Jason Statham.
Speaker 6 (08:59):
Done.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
It's a movie swap.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
Morning to you, Leon Christian. Thank you for your Friday recommendation. Furious.
Finished it in two days.
Speaker 4 (09:11):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
You finished it quicker than I have. I've got the
last episode to watch tonight. Also watched a pit of
the last couple of weeks because you've been raving about it. Leon,
thank you very much. Patsy, how was your weekend? How
would you rate your weekend, mate?
Speaker 4 (09:24):
Oh, for stress level, I'd have to say it's five
out of five for stress, but I'll give it an
overall like two, 2.5.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
Oh, no.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
No, it wasn't that bad.
Speaker 4 (09:33):
We were just getting the 15-year-old ready for school camp
this week, which was just like, you know, the house
was on tenterhooks, had to pack the insect repellent. Where
did we put the blister band-aids? You know, all this
stuff that you don't normally need.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
The blow-up pillow.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
I know I bought one, but I can't find it.
So it was just like that. Um, and my husband,
poor Chris was kind of getting in the way a bit.
He was trying to help, but the more he was
trying to help, he was really just getting in the way.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
And so we said, you know what? Why don't you
go out for a bit? You deserve a weekend. You
deserve an afternoon.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
A weekend before fathers. Day. You know, why don't you
just go out? Why don't you just get lost?
Speaker 2 (10:12):
No, here's a gift.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
Have two or three hours to yourself. Why don't you
just walk into the sea, Chris? Poor Chris.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
So he was fine with that, though, Christian. Chris loves.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
Oh, no, I bet he was. As soon as he
shut that door behind him, he was like, woohoo. I
go home, it's him to me.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
Woohoo.
Speaker 7 (10:28):
They can deal with it.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
So I said, you know what?
Speaker 1 (10:30):
Ferris starts the day off.
Speaker 7 (10:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
Why don't you go and have a drink, you know?
He loves to be dropped off at the pub, kamikaze style.
You just drop him in there. Like a World War
II pilot.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
I would shoot him in.
Speaker 4 (10:42):
And he loves it because he loves Chris's– you know
what Chris is like. He loves to converse with people.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
He loves to chat to strangers.
Speaker 5 (10:49):
You know?
Speaker 1 (10:50):
No, he is. You know, there's people like wandering around.
They turn up with no mates. But then within an
hour or two, they're public in there.
Speaker 7 (10:57):
Barney Gumbel.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
They'll be singing with Chris in the pub in unison.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
Is he still there now?
Speaker 5 (11:02):
Probably.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
But it was just fascinating.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
So when we went back later to pick him up,
he always meets someone really, really interesting.
Speaker 9 (11:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
Anyway, Saturday he'd met this ex-military guy who.
Speaker 7 (11:13):
Had the most.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
I'm sorry, but you go into any pub on a
Saturday afternoon, there's a few of these so-called military heroes.
Speaker 7 (11:19):
Army reserves.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
Special forces and stuff like this.
Speaker 7 (11:21):
SAS.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
He had this fascinating life story. He'd been part of
the team in R & D that had developed night
goggle glasses.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
Wow. Fascinating life story. What do you work at the moment? Oh,
these are beer goggles.
Speaker 7 (11:36):
Yes.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
The Christian O'Connell Show.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
Go on.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
Podcast.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
Extra time of the time wasted today. Marathon bands are
for grabs. $ 250 Flowers for Everyone voucher. Flowers for you
all this morning. All thanks to Flowers for Everyone. Say
hello to spring with farm fresh flowers from flowersforeveryone.com.au. Yeah,
we're that kind of breakfast show. We give you flowers.
(12:06):
All right, so Pete did the Sydney Mouth yesterday. We're
looking for your marathon bands. Godson Friday, Michelle had Transvision Cramp.
Lee had Enduran Duran. Sam had the Crampberries. Brett had
Alanis Finished Yet. And the winner was, a deserved winner
was Tim with That's Far Man. John, That's Far Man. Very,
(12:29):
very good work, Tim. All right, some new ones. Extra
time wasted for your marathon bands. Robert Plantophysitis. Oh, very clever. Gold.
26 Miles Davis. Silver plus. The Verrucas. Gold. Do you
remember at school, Verrucas were quite a feared thing, weren't they? Yeah.
He always had some kid who had that Verruca sock.
(12:51):
The shame. That Verruca sock and that foot bath you
have to go through.
Speaker 7 (12:55):
Yes, that's right.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
Not such a big part of adult life, is it, Verrucas?
Speaker 7 (13:00):
Thankfully.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
No. I think it's the first time I've said Veruca
in my adult life, actually. Charlie X. He exhausted.
Speaker 7 (13:10):
Oh, that's good.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
Thank you. What have you got, Rio?
Speaker 7 (13:14):
Who's number 4765? It's Bibi Eilish.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
Oh, very good. Bibi, yeah. It's a silver.
Speaker 7 (13:21):
Vanilla Ice Bath. He's just covering it there.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
Yep.
Speaker 7 (13:24):
And these guys should have taped their nipples. It's the
Kaiser chafes.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
Kaiser chafes. Very good. That's gold.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
Yesterday, I happened to be on a flight and the
seat in front of me was Barnaby Joyce. Wow. Wow. Patsy,
how about this for a claim to fame? Yeah. When
we landed, I was opening up the overhead locker and
Barnaby Joyce's iconic Stetson, I handed it to him. Oh,
you touched the holy grail. Yeah, yeah, I touched the
(13:54):
holy grail. Oh, my word. What a claim to fame.
I've handed Barnaby Joyce that cowboy hat. He's on TV
rocking it as well. It's a little bit bent at
the side. Those overhead lockers, things move around, don't they?
Speaker 7 (14:09):
I thought you were supposed to put the hat underneath
the seat.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
Why should I stop him wearing it for the flight?
It's true. Why did he take it off?
Speaker 4 (14:16):
Very unfortunate fact. My oldest brother is the spitting image
of Barnaby.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
Why is it an unfortunate fact?
Speaker 2 (14:22):
Well, you know.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
You're mistaken as a great man like that.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
About to explode. He gets stopped in the street. People
think he's Barnaby.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
I'm not kidding. By and large, I should hire him
as a doppelganger.
Speaker 4 (14:31):
Yeah, I know.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
He could.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
Like a decoy. Oh, that wasn't me yelling at the dog.
It was my stuntman. All right, then. Marathon bands. Rio,
you ready to mark? Let's go. Up and Grounds is
the best one. We've got $ 250 worth of vouchers for
flowers for everyone. Racy Chapman. Oh, gold. Well done, Chris.
(14:52):
Dire Strains. Gold. Ouch, I pulled my wham string. Ash.
Miles and Miles Cyrus.
Speaker 6 (15:02):
Gold.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
Well done, Joe. B-52 Miles. Bronze. Snoop Jog. That's very good.
Snoop Jog is very good. Well done, Glenn. Red Hot
Chili Pacers. Gold. Sia at the finish line. Gold. That's
some Lee. The Bee Cheese. That was bloody hard. Silver. Sharpie.
(15:27):
Well done. Whamstring. That's enough Whamstring ones now.
Speaker 7 (15:30):
Silver.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
Not Weezer, but Weezing.
Speaker 7 (15:33):
Gold.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
Well done, Yana. McCalla Carp Strain. Silver. Smashing Powerades. Gold. Anthony.
The Bee Cheese. What have I signed up for? No,
I love those.
Speaker 5 (15:47):
Silver.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
Chris, that's gold times a million. Jeez, what have I
signed up for here? Simon and sprained ankle. That's gold.
Simon and sprained ankle. UB 42.2, not UB 40.
Speaker 7 (16:02):
Silver.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
And Eric Crampton. Poor gold. Aria, who's winning the flowers?
Speaker 7 (16:08):
Simon and sprained ankle.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
Simon and sprained ankle. That is Chris. Brand new time
waste this morning. at 8.30, and it's Greek movies.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
Every Monday on the show, we want to know about
your weekend. Rate your weekend. Out of five, did you
have a five-star weekend? 2.5, like Patsy? Let us know
which way it was, and tell us a few words
about your weekend. Text yours, 0475 031043. We're now going
to go live to, you know, that little round face
(16:41):
hole in a physio's bench? Well, what other word can I...
I can Eskimo drill a little hole to fish. It's
a face hole?
Speaker 7 (16:50):
It is a face hole.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
It's a face hole. It is a face hole. That's
the only one I can describe. You know the physio bench?
You've got the little hole you squish and mush into.
We've got a microphone in the face hole. The face
in the hole. Is it a new feature? Who's the
face in the hole? Who's the face hole? The first
ever guest on Through the Face Hole is... Intern Pete,
(17:13):
who we've got a physio this morning, because yesterday he
did the Sydney Mouthing. Pete, how are you feeling, mate?
Speaker 6 (17:20):
At the moment, I think my body is an absolute mess.
We've got Julian here, who's doing an incredible job as
I'm coming to you live from the hole.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
It is... Excuse me.
Speaker 5 (17:28):
Yes, sorry.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
It's a... Sounds now very different with you and Julian.
And we're live now from a Greek spa somewhere under
the arches in Sydney. He's a very respectable chiropractor. It is.
Speaker 6 (17:45):
My body is corked. He said you are completely out
of line.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
Already we slightly learned that one leg was longer than
the other. I mean, this is a damage of a
marathon or something, like a pirate peg leg.
Speaker 6 (17:54):
Yeah, I'm not sure what's happening. Julian, can you just
come over here for a second? I'll just get you
to say a quick hi. How bad are we looking here?
Speaker 7 (18:01):
We're pretty bad actually.
Speaker 1 (18:02):
At the moment.
Speaker 7 (18:03):
So his hips are quite misaligned and his hamstrings, his
calves have been overworked. So we've got to get those
back in check.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
Yeah, you did the marathon just, you know, a couple
of hours ago. You still seem pretty fresh, I have
to be honest, Pete. You look well.
Speaker 5 (18:16):
Do you know what? Part of me thinks.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
By the way, I've had a lot of sort of
physio treatment. I've never had to be topless for it.
Speaker 7 (18:23):
And they're very short shorts.
Speaker 1 (18:24):
They are, aren't they? Basically underpants. It's a miniskirt. That's
why I play girls just want to have fun. I
do not want to see one of the silk eggs
pop out this morning, okay? It's going to hurt me
off my breakfast. Can you tape them or something down?
Do not put them through the face off. Maybe this
(18:47):
is a new way we can interview celebrities. They get
a free massage.
Speaker 9 (18:50):
No, no, no.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
And then we have a camera. Going up. Yes, I
like it. Looking out through that hole.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
Let's go through the face hole. Pete, you've given me
an idea. The next guest, I think it'd be great.
Imagine trying to get hold of Hugh Chapman. He's a
bit busy at the moment. Wait, he also gets a
free massage treatment as well. All right, Hugh can make
it now.
Speaker 7 (19:10):
Yes, I love that.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
So, Pete, you're having a good treatment there. So, how
would you rate your weekend?
Speaker 5 (19:16):
I rate my weekend, honestly, 10 out of 5.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
Brilliant.
Speaker 6 (19:19):
As far as wholesomeness goes and just... An incredible run
and everything about it. The city was just full of joy.
Speaker 5 (19:26):
It was just unreal.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
Probably.
Speaker 6 (19:29):
Actually, let's take it down to a nine because the
one mistake I did make was I thought they were
handing out free gelato along the way.
Speaker 5 (19:35):
Turns out it was Vaseline on a stick. So a
little mistake we made there.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
I heard about this in a pub yesterday. I met
Pete afterwards and he just said he ate a whole
load of Vaseline. I was like, what? I thought it
was gelato. But why would it be gelato? I mean,
is there anyone else this morning waking up and accidentally
rubbed gelato in their nipples? That's what I want to know.
Speaker 6 (19:56):
There's a poor lady behind me because I was like, oh,
my God, free gelato.
Speaker 5 (19:59):
And I ran off and she's like, no, it's Vaseline.
It was too late. It was already down my throat.
Speaker 1 (20:06):
Well, enjoy your physio this morning, Pete. And again, we're
all very proud of you. Well done.
Speaker 3 (20:11):
The Christian O'Connell Show. Go on. Podcast.
Speaker 1 (20:16):
Rate your weekend out of five. How many stars would
you give your weekend? Tell us all about it. Christian,
it's a 5 out of 5 for me. Excitement and pride.
Both our under-13s and under-14s won their AFL Juniors Football
Grand Final. This is huge. And our over-45s AFL Masters
(20:36):
are through to their Grand Final. Well done. That's huge. Christian,
five-star weekend for me. This is Keith, who's been telling
us every week now how his swimming lessons are going.
Keith is in his 60s, and he's had a chronic
fear of water throughout his whole life, and he's decided
to overcome it. And he's been having swimming lessons. And
he's just had his seventh, and he's done his first
(20:58):
full lap in the pool.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
That's incredible.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
Massive achievement. Keith, very proud of you. Also learned to
do backstroke. I cannot do that. I end up going
into people. Backstroke's really, really hard. You need some sort
of periscope mirror system. Why not listen to them balls?
Have a mirrored ceiling there.
Speaker 9 (21:16):
Yes, at school, at the carnivals, everyone would always get
tangled in the lane ropes.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
Yes, getting trapped like it's a fishing net or something.
I had a five-out-five weekend. You had a magical weekend.
Two really big highlights for me. Yesterday, we were all
in Sydney this week, and I was flying in yesterday.
It was about half past one, and I was flying
over Sydney. And at the window, I could see it
was not a cloud in the sky. And I saw
(21:45):
the harbour bridge and I saw the upper house. And
I was like, I counted my blessings. I was like,
I cannot believe that life is somehow, we are the
other side of the world. I'm flying into this beautiful
city to do a radio show that I've loved doing
radio for a very long time. I'm doing it in
Australia and we're going to be in Sydney this week
and the weather's going to be amazing. I was like,
I was counting my blessings. And then the other really,
(22:06):
really big thing, a kind of mini epiphany for me
over the weekend. Over the weekend, this guy reached out
to me and he read my book and he said,
you know what? I'm in my late 40s. I need
a bit of advice and guidance in the midlife. And
your last two books actually have been kind of, I
don't know if you're aware of it, but kind of
manifest of how not to do it and how to
(22:28):
do it. I hadn't realized whatsoever. It's just been my life. Anyway,
he's hired me to give him midlife coaching and guidance. Oh,
I love that for you. And I spoke to him.
We arranged to speak for half an hour. I said, look,
you tell me what you need, and I'll be honest
with you. We'll end up speaking for an hour and
a half and sort of swapping notes and stuff like that.
(22:49):
And so I'm going to be a kind of, I
wouldn't say coach. What about a mentor? That's it, a
midlife mentor. You're great at that though, Christian. Oh, thanks, Patsy.
Because you know what it's like, Patsy. There's no help
for the midlife.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
No, no.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
And you think about it, it is like a second adulthood.
Speaker 9 (23:06):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
Teenagers go through hormonal, physical, emotional, spiritual changes. So does
everyone in the midlife. Hormonal, real physical changes. Back fat?
No one warns you about that. Back on my... Fat
on my back?
Speaker 4 (23:20):
How?
Speaker 3 (23:21):
How?
Speaker 5 (23:21):
How do you shift that?
Speaker 1 (23:22):
What kind of back exercises do you need to do
to shift that? And so no one really helps you.
You're on your own. And it can be really overwhelming.
Speaker 3 (23:30):
But.
Speaker 1 (23:31):
It also can be this amazing chance to find a
different kind of way to be in the second half
of your life. And that's really exciting. And actually, I
was always looking at the sky yesterday, thinking about my
midlife here in Australia. I said, God, yeah, I'd love
to talk to him about that. So, guys, I'm now
somehow launching my own kind of midlife journey. business, I've
(23:53):
got one client. I love this. I won't be retiring
from Breakfast Radio very soon, but I've got my one client.
And I'm so excited. I woke up this morning and
I already started making notes this morning. I was having
a cup of tea at half four. Wow, what a journey.
Speaker 3 (24:06):
Yes, yes.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
I'm really excited about it. Rio, what's yours out of
five for your weekend?
Speaker 7 (24:10):
Four stars for me, definitely. I'm the proud new owner
of a leaf blower.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
Oh, well done. It is nice. Rechargeable, you've got your
little battery.
Speaker 7 (24:19):
Yes, I've got the Bosch 18-volt one.
Speaker 9 (24:22):
I feel like I remember when I was a kid,
I was about seven years old, I got a remote
control car and I was so excited and I didn't
stop using it the whole weekend.
Speaker 7 (24:29):
It was the exact same for me all Saturday, all Sunday. Oh,
I felt so powerful.
Speaker 1 (24:34):
No, no, no, you don't ever use them on a Sunday.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
No.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
No, no. That's a day of respect and rest.
Speaker 9 (24:39):
No, no.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
You don't want to hate the guy. Not even on
a Sunday.
Speaker 7 (24:43):
What are the appropriate times for a leaf blower?
Speaker 1 (24:45):
I think it's five to six in the evening. That's it. Okay.
Speaker 7 (24:49):
On weekdays, okay?
Speaker 1 (24:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (24:51):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (24:52):
Nothing too early.
Speaker 1 (24:53):
No, not too early.
Speaker 2 (24:54):
Especially not on a Sunday.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
Horrible.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
Insidious noise.
Speaker 7 (24:57):
I was doing it at 9am on a Sunday.
Speaker 1 (24:59):
That's actually really antisocial. I thought I was being so productive.
Speaker 7 (25:04):
I was getting up early. Win the morning, win the day.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
Blow the morning. And the other thing I recommend, do
it inside once just to see the joy.
Speaker 7 (25:12):
What do you do it inside for?
Speaker 1 (25:14):
I tell you what, we always use real Christmas trees
and when you were getting them in and getting them out,
there's needles everywhere. I go and get the leaf blower
and open up the front door, blow the needles through
the house. Out into the street. Oh, the joy.
Speaker 7 (25:27):
The joy.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
And just seeing the pets run for it as well.
Run for the hills!
Speaker 7 (25:34):
It's the best thing. We should give them away on
the show.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
And don't you feel like you're James Bond or something? Yes.
You look for stuff to go and blow. Yes. All right,
rate your weekend out of five.
Speaker 3 (25:47):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
Every Monday we ask you about your weekend. Rate your
weekend out of five. Sharon had also had a five-out-five
weekend celebrating 10 years of Great Danes at a winery. Christian,
over 40 Great Danes attended. Any humans? What a Great
Dane thing to do, just to hire a winery and
celebrate themselves. We've got to be Great Danes. Cheers to us, chaps. Christian,
(26:16):
if I could give my weekend zero out of five,
I would. Saturday morning, someone had hit the mirror of
my car. Oh. Oh, I'm sorry to hear that, James.
And then I hurt my knee. I'm still waiting for
the third thing. A lot of messages about the joy
of leaf blowers. Chris, my father-in-law used to use his
leaf blower as the vacuum. Oh, I know. That's the opposite.
(26:40):
He'd blow everything into a corner, then just vacuum up
that bit.
Speaker 3 (26:44):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (26:44):
This is genius, Paul. Christian, leaf blowers are just as
addictive as precious washers, and there's never a bad time
to blow or hose down. That comes from Brock. Christian,
when I give my husband a hair cut, I use
a leaf blower to get all the excess hair off him.
And I love it because it makes his cheeks go
up as if he was a Labrador hanging out of
(27:07):
a car window. Oh, that is brilliant, Kenny. What fun. Christian,
I use my leaf blower in the house every single
afternoon to round up the dog and cat hair. Brilliant.
Start one, the house blow all into the corner, then vacuum.
That's from Vicky. This is Christian. My weekend was five
out of five. And Christian, I must say, you sound
surprisingly upbeat considering. And then sadly, this man wants to
(27:28):
antagonize me because his Petty team beat my team and
we're now out of finals. I'm not engaging. My way
of dealing with it is it simply didn't happen this weekend.
Speaker 5 (27:40):
That's healthy.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
While Rio was watching Steel Magnolias, I was watching my
own emotional movie. My own Steel Magnolias. Christian, five out
of five weekend. Five districts of girl guys from Northern
Sydney run a count for our younger girls. giving them
an opportunity to try new things, experience indoor camping and
meet new people. It was an incredible weekend. The girls really,
(28:03):
really got so much from it.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.
