A Christian O'Connell show podcast.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Hey, good morning, Tuesday morning. Welcoming to the Christian O'Connor
show for Chemis's Warehouse. Yesterday, I caught an escaped rabbit Oho.
As I was driving to my house yesterday, maybe a
minute and a half away, I just saw a rabbit
hop onto the rope in front of me right and
so luckily there was no other cask, and so I
pulled over. The rabbit looked terrified. It was just sort

(02:04):
of by the curb. I approached it very carefully and
then thought, I just I gues said, you just grab it.
I never had a rabbit, so I just grabbed it
around the waist. I've got to go gash on my
left arm here because that thing did not want to.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
Be They liked, yeah, gave a hell of a kick.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
So then I just I could have asked, and I
looked quite shriek, I sort of, and then I'm a
hold this rabbit, and I'm thinking, what do I actually do?
What's my play here? And I saw these trades and
they were looking at me like and they just all
pointed at a house the other side of the road
like they've had enough of getting that rabbit doing it.

(02:41):
So I went I saw it with my head and
not the twenty two is it? And they went like that,
nodded again. No words were said, and then hingerly with
the thing, holding it out in front of me like
a ticking time up because it was really starting a kid.
Then I was worried, like can I dive it?

Speaker 3 (02:55):
Bit me raby, Yes, you need a tennis shot enough time.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
At the time, I didn't have a time to go
and get back in the car with the rabbits, go
and get chap, I find a Medicare card, go and
get that done and then drive back to number twenty two.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
Scratched you You should probably get that checked out.

Speaker 4 (03:12):
Yeah, you might need a ting.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
This could be the last shows, but know that I
died doing what I love. Anyway, I'm not to the door.
They didn't you know some people don't pretty some people
in life they're not like me and my wife are
pretty loose. Like that front gate was wide open.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
I always close people's front gate.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
This gate was wide open, right. I could even see
a rabbit hutch in the front yard. I think, where's
this thing live? Sort I was doing the old hello, Hello,
have you got rabbits? Hello? And then someone inside goes,
hang on a minute, right, and again the things starting
to really sort of these eyes are like dilating. Now.
I actually think it's going to go for me or something.

(03:52):
They opened the door and they went, oh this again,
and I went, do you want him now? And he
went and the guys goes there put him down there.
I thought I might get a reward and anything I
got nothing.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
The Christian O'Connell show podcast.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
The one thing I'm excited talk about today something I've
been working on for a couple of years. I've written
a new book. It comes out in July, and it's
called Unscript The Radical Act of Being Yourself, and it's
about something very very dear to my heart, which is
about how we connect to each other and what gets
in the way to deeper real connection and one thing

(04:27):
I've noticed, and I know that you all would have
noticed this as well in your own lives as well.
Over the last couple of years, we are becoming more
and more disconnected as we spend more and more time online.
We're losing like this muscle that we have to connect
with each other. And the more time we are online,
we think we're being social, And if you really think
about it, social media isn't actually that social. It's more

(04:48):
about the algorithm wants us to stay in the algorithm,
and it feeds us division and anger. It's not about
true connection. That is not where true connection lives in
front of each other. We're losing this. And the one
thing about why I think radio is a magical, magical
medium more than TV or anything else, is that radio

(05:08):
about right now and the radio we do and the
radio you hopefully like listening to. And we've heard this
through so many stories from you guys, day in, day out,
is it's a chance to actually drop the performance that
most of us do in all of our lives. There
was a point before I decided to move to Australian
when we change our lives, where I was driving home
from a radio show I've done four hours. I took

(05:30):
for four hours, I built that show that had two
and a half million listeners. And you know, sometimes you
catch yourself in the mirror. I was stuck in traffic,
which was every day in my life in London, and
I looked to myself in the in the rear view mirror,
and I looked away because I suddenly realized, you actually
haven't said anything for the last four hours that you
actually meant. I realized I was performing a version of myself,

(05:50):
and I think this happens to a lot of us.
We're performing a version of us house and it wasn't
just a work. I realized it was starting to creep
into my home life as well, so I made it.
I'm also how exhausting it is to keep up this
performance of a version of yourself. And again, social media
is great. There's so many great things about social media,
but what it also shows is a fake version of people.

(06:10):
And think it makes us think that we need to
be some perfect version to have connection with other people.
And the one thing I can tell you is that
people are starved of real connection. You don't connect to
someone trying to be perfect. You connect to someone when
they drop the act when they unscript is what I've
called the book unscript. The rather collect of being yourself.
Being yourself is going to become harder and harder for

(06:31):
the next couple years because we're opting out so much
of our voice and what to say and what to think.
Increasingly to AI, it's a lot of fake people online
influences fake and also AI slop as well. And so
the book is called unscript. I've written it with one
aim in mind that actually it helps you get excited
about having better conversations, because our lives are a series

(06:52):
of conversations, and how we talk to each other is
actually the quality of our lives. That's how we connect
with each other. And I do think we're drifting apart
from each other. And the joy of doing radio is
that it's real time connection and it's authentic connection. So
the book is really that I hope that you enjoy
how to have better conversations and true deeper connection wherever

(07:13):
you are on your life. So that actually, I think
for a lot of people, everyone knows how to speak,
but there are certain situations where speaking becomes tricky and
normally an old story you have about something somebody said
to you once or something where you felt shame, and
you don't want to feel that again. I was coaching
someone last year who just wanted to have the courage
to ask a question on a team's meeting that was public.

(07:34):
Speaking to her, it's hard these days, isn't it. Put
your hand up and ask a question. You're frightened, looking foolish.
But it keeps us locked away, It keeps us in prisoned.
We think it's it keeps us safe, which is why
we develop all these different scripts and a mask. But
at some moment, that mask, in that script that keeps
kept you safe, like it did for me for years,
will actually imprison you. And so I made a decision
to stop performing a version of myself become more and

(07:57):
more myself and the radio that's been the last eight
or nine years, especially since I moved here. The great
news about that is it involves a hell of a
lot of effort, and actually you realize that true connection,
the best conversations you've ever had with your family and
friends and your partners, you will have left that conversation
where it felt there were no calories spent. It's effortless.

(08:18):
You said a thing, I'm my God, have we've really
been talking for four hours. There was no striving, there's
no performance, and so that's what that's what I've seen
that and Patsy, I've seen that in Rio since I've
been working with you guys and helping you guys. Is
where you were, Patsy eight years ago and where you
are now. It's been an incredible thing to witness as
well as different if you've become closer to yourself and
the ready producer Kaitan as well, where she was now

(08:40):
and the bouncing ball of energy she is running this
team and running the show as well along with are
you and you both as well as your journey of
becoming more yourself and shedding those masks.

Speaker 5 (08:50):
Absolutely, And I think that when you talk about when
you're talking about you and the car, I think about
a song that he'd home with me because a Ben
Folds one the best imitation of yourself, Yes is that?
And I remember hearing that and thinking about maybe three
or four years ago, that is exactly the way I feel.
And then yeah, like the last three or four years,
just feeling like you don't have to put on an

(09:11):
act or listen to those voices inside your head and
just be yourself and that that's enough.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
Mate, I can't wait to read this book. I'm so
proud of you.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
WORL don't thank you. The book comes out in July.
You might be thinking, bloody elk, why are you talking
about it now? It's out for pre order. If you
go on book topia and Amazon, you'll find it there.
The reason is is that I'm talking about you now,
is that if you are going to get it, please
do me favor buy it on pre order. The reason
is is that all the bookshops look at pre orders
to decide whether or not they're going to stock copies

(09:39):
of your book. And so right now someone are thinking,
who the hell is this guy and English girl on
the radio? I can't see them in a bid demand
for his life story about how to CONNECTDB with people.
They look at the pre orders. If there are good
pre orders, the book's going to be more easy if
you do buy when it comes out. And I promise
you I've put everything I know about connection that the
book is full of stories of me basically screwing it

(10:01):
up so that you don't have to. It's thirty years
of stumbling at home and on air, many stories that
you don't have to make the horror messy mistakes that
I've made as well, and on the messiness. There isn't
a single perfect radio show I've ever done, and I
don't ever want to try and do one. This show
is all over the place, and I'm sure you agree
it is the better for it because actually the messiness

(10:24):
is where the magic is, all the stories we get.
That's what being a human is. And then the next
couple of year is what's being a human? What's real
and what isn't human? With AI, it's going to get
harder and harder. So the real invitation is to double
down on what being a human is. Being a human
isn't about being perfect. It's about being messy. It's that
inner wido that we all have, and you will have

(10:45):
a lot better life when you embrace your inner wirdo.
That's what I should have called the book, but it's
called in unscript Now. If you go on pre order
the book book Topia or Amazon, it really helps me,
and as a favor and a thank you. The one
thing I'm going to be doing is They'm going to
be doing a whole load of these. These are going
to be live YouTube shows that I'll only be going
to be doing for my pre order pals. So if

(11:07):
you pre order the book and send me your receipt
email it to me Christian at Christian O'Connell dot com
dot au, you'll be invited to some very unique part
book club part whatever it will be, it'll be live
from my house, meet with a couple of wines, unscript
and uncork. It'll be called at Home with Christian from
my home to yours. But that will only be for
my pre order pals. If you're getting the book, please

(11:28):
pre order it and have a look anyway, read about
it online, have a look on Amazon or book Topia
as well. You can pre order it there. It's called unscript.
When you do get the book, I hope you get
something from it as well.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
Christian Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
Let's see if we can construct an old school eighties playground.
Now you go to modern playgrounds. You got the nets
on the on the on the trampoline. You've also got
that springy bouncy.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
Y've got petty yeah.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
You know if any thick kids falled over, sorry, you know,
they go they go bouncing back up. Not an arday.
We did not have that pussy kind of flooring. It
was hardcore. You land on that on a bare knee shrap,
you're picking it out a week in your blood, racing
up to yours, your heart in your arch trees. So
if I was going to build from scratch, that's what

(12:18):
we're going to do during the next half an hour.
We're going to build an eighties playground from scratch. So
I'm going to say the first thing you have to
go on there is the metallic slide oven, where the
hell basically ceiling yourself the back of your flies midways
you slide down, you're going to be scraped off with
a fish slice. Yes, third used to get so hot,

(12:42):
even in the not that hot uk here, it must
have been hell.

Speaker 4 (12:45):
You absolutely sizzling.

Speaker 6 (12:48):
Your legs were red and you could even see the
hate mirage coming off.

Speaker 1 (12:53):
It wasn't like a dull gray, it was shiny silver.

Speaker 4 (12:57):
Was absolutely like glittering off the.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
Slide chef's grill.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
Did you have the onion sacks, Patsy. We used to
have the sort.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
Of like onion sat rhyme from it's a phrase from
Man's Oh this is a literal. They can't have that
in the playground. Okay, we're calling the authorities someone's got
their onion sack out, got around the kids, go away.
We know who you are, your pub.

Speaker 5 (13:22):
Actual onion side to ride down like a Hissian bag
like Asian.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
No yeah, no, no.

Speaker 4 (13:28):
Eighties, no sex.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
It was just the eighties were like patronized nam you
weren't there, man, you weren't there. Botanic slide, bare skin,
short shots, yes, maximum skin exposure to a grill, and
you know.

Speaker 6 (13:43):
No height sort of regulations as well. Some of those
ladders up to the slides were so high, like two stories.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
I Christian O'Connell Show one podcast.

Speaker 1 (13:56):
All right, so we're taking back to the eighties when
playgrounds were hell of a lot more dangerous than they
are now. We are going to build an eighties playground.
What has to be in there? So the moment we
started with the metallic slide, third degree burns on a
hot summer's day. Also proper gravel and flints on the floor,

(14:19):
and where there's not that cheap mud scorched no soft grass,
just that real dry kate mud or wet mud during
the winter. Just a general unpleasantness wherever you live. Concrete, shrapnel, flints,
like a war zone, whether a kids. When you think

(14:41):
about them pats. They were Actually it's a miracle when
you of us got out of there.

Speaker 6 (14:44):
It was like an obstacle course, like some sort of
medieval court show.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
You de sign my grumpy adults that hated kids, count
planners that really really didn't like kids. I thought, we'll
screw them up. All right. One needs to be there,
thank you very much. All the text boring in right now?
What needs to be in our eighties playground? Christian? You
need the tire swing treehouse Christian? What about the oh
my god, the concrete that was half buried in the ground.

(15:11):
Boys had a bud of mud and water because it
was never going to dry out. You're right, Chris, great
spot about that that you're right, halfb in the ground.
What a joyless thing. Why the kids want to all
do that making themselves ill drinking pond water? Christian? Together
with the you write the metallic slides of the ones
made of no longer in use plastic that would give

(15:34):
you friction burns as opposed to the heap, Yes, the
study Christian. What about the poison soaked slimy green when
wet in winter treated pine two story four minimal raining
so collar bone breaks were a common occurrence. Don't worry,
and there's another kid playing over there. We've got spares, Matthew.
Very funny. Let's take some calls. Vanessa, Welcome to the show. Hello,

(15:58):
hello Vanessa. So what has to be in our eighties?
Dangerous playground?

Speaker 2 (16:02):
Those big circle things that you used to saint on
and hold on to you and someone would run around
the Outside's gonna go around?

Speaker 1 (16:09):
Really class? Yes? Are we talking about here? Is this
a merry go round?

Speaker 5 (16:14):
It's sort of like like a medieval merry go round?

Speaker 3 (16:18):
Like everyone stands on the edge of it.

Speaker 5 (16:19):
Yes, elevated, hold onto the bar, yes, and then you
put your life in some idiot's hair.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
Always have a local thuks someone's older brother, wasn't it?

Speaker 3 (16:28):
Who run and sprint around as fast, generate as much?

Speaker 1 (16:32):
And basically it was like hanging on for dear life.
You'd either get flow off and good luck because you've
been landing on either dry cakey mud or shrapnel, or
you just at the end wabbled off and throw up.

Speaker 3 (16:44):
The leap of faith off the thing.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
Who needed devices?

Speaker 6 (16:47):
Then astronaut in spinning the centrifugere.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
Yes, that's the right. Perhaps it was nasal training we
were doing back in the day.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
The Christian O'Connell show podcast.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
Went to our local with it going to Figures and
Lacey's sateenth there it's where.

Speaker 7 (17:11):
We had almuspies being better days in mea lequer pace.
We need to help this joint.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
On me in all our mates.

Speaker 7 (17:25):
It's any mine save Christ, please save up Pup's anyboy
gonna save Christ?

Speaker 1 (17:35):
Please save a pub? You wan save our pub. This
is the big week we've been looking forward to because
this week five pubs. A pub a day gets five
thousand dollars. We joined force us with four X, which
means we can help more pubs. The pub's calling somewhere
between the first sip and the last laugh. It's always
a four ITX and we found these pubs that need

(17:56):
saving for save our pub. Thanks to you guys, Thank
you very much. Hundreds of you have told us about
hundreds of the great pups that are still going in Australia.
So thank you so much for taking the time to
actually try and fight for your local. So each day
this week we're going to give the pubs good news
and you get to hear that as well. So we've
got five pubs being helped to this week. And then

(18:17):
there's another pub we're going to be announcing as well
that gets the ultimate pub makeover as well. But right now,
as soon as we heard about this pub, I think
it was one of the first calls we had when
we launched this mission, Save our Pub was an amazing pub.
Kind of pubs that really do need protecting and saving,
and they're the heart of the community. Is not just
a room, it's not the front room of a community.

(18:37):
Is Wilburn Sons in Morabin? We should now be going
live too. Lucy told us about this great pub called
Wilbury and Sons in Morabin, and also Byron and Kylie.
Are you there, Christian, Well, listen, good news you're one
of the winners. Congratulations, that's amazing, Thank you Christian. That's

(18:58):
all right, Lucy, you spoke so passionately about it. I
have had a couple of beers at your place as well,
wilburn Sons, and I do love to merch the T
shirts I'm seeing there. I want those.

Speaker 8 (19:09):
I'm sure we can arrange something absolutely, And so tell.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
Us about the five thousand dollars. What will that go
towards outside here?

Speaker 8 (19:16):
As you saw in the video that was said, you know,
isn't exactly rain proof or core proof. I mean winter
is our busiest time, as you know, coming from the
other side of the world. The pub is where people
spend their times. That's part of the community and being
a massive winter pub, that's when we're at our busiest

(19:36):
and we need to protect the outside a bit more
to allow people to sit out there as well.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
Yeah, and also when it's wintertime, you want to be
somewhere cozy, and that's what.

Speaker 3 (19:44):
Pub is exactly.

Speaker 9 (19:46):
Yeah, that's what we try and bring, that cozy buy
and that familiar place that you just kind of walk
into and you see people that you know and you
could just sit at the bar and chat even if
you buy yourself Like that's the kind of vibe we
want to bring and seem to really fit with that
winter kind of escaping.

Speaker 3 (20:01):
And they do a great great.

Speaker 10 (20:03):
Mold wine as well.

Speaker 1 (20:04):
I love mold wine. Yes, now tell me this, guys,
have you noticed over the last couple of years that
less and less people are actually coming out. It's too
easy to stay at home, you know, Netflix and have
a drink at home rather than being bothered to go
out because we're becoming lazier.

Speaker 8 (20:20):
Yeah, I mean, everybody's different, so I don't want to
generalize too much, but I mean when money's tight, I
guess people may be final excuse not to go out
as often or to save those pennies for other vital
things that they need to pay for in their life.
But we've created an environment where we're sort of like
people's second home. It's just like them going to the

(20:43):
second lound room, you know. So I think we've done
a lot to make it less of an effort for
people to go out.

Speaker 1 (20:49):
Well, it's in congratulations. I look forward to coming in
very soon and enjoying your enhanced outdoor area, Okayan.

Speaker 8 (20:58):
Yeah yeah, and yeah, thank you Gold and thank you
for X as well. It's amazing.

Speaker 10 (21:02):
I'm so happy for these guys, so happy that I
was able to come on the show and just really
appreciate this amazing promotion. I think it's going to make
a huge difference to these guys and to all the
other pubs that you're helping as well. So that's amazing.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
Thank you so much.

Speaker 9 (21:14):
I want to shout out the Lucy's of the world.

Speaker 1 (21:17):
She's a great local. She should be a head of
marketing Lucy.

Speaker 9 (21:21):
Absolutely loyal customers. They help the ones behind the scenes
and they're the ones that actually see what it's like.
Absolutely gem So thank you to Lucy, and thank you,
thank you guys there. It's just amazing.

Speaker 3 (21:32):
We really appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (21:33):
Thank you. That's okay. As soon as Lucy's started to
tell us about this place, I just, you know, I
know about what the work you guys do and what
you've been through over the last couple of years, and
this is exactly why we're doing this. You're the places
that we need to be celebrating actually and reminding people
to go there and drop in and spend a couple
of hours there. So wilburn Sons it's in Marabin. Give
yourself a plug if.

Speaker 8 (21:53):
You do a stake night on Tuesday pub trivia, like
any good pub does on a Wednesday Sunday Roast, which
as part of give a great pub, you've got to
have a really good Sunday roast. So one of our busy.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
Days, tell me this. They are beef Sunday roast, aren't they?
Yorkshire puddies and I want giant Yorkshire puddings. Tell me
there's gravy, lots of gravy and giant Yorkshire puddings. Your
plate will be full, thank you. That's another idea for
a pub name. Your plate will be full, four bellies

(22:25):
and four plates. Weil were in sons, Lucy, Byron and Kylie.
You really deserve it. Thank you very much.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
Welcome Christian O'Connell show podcast.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
Sometimes in life, something crazy, surrill, beny believable will happen
in our day to day lives, and suddenly you feel
like your life has turned into a scene in a sitcom.
This is me last weekend. We had some friends this
day and they said, can we bring our dog? And
we said, cool, she can bring a dog. We have

(22:59):
a dog, we have a cat. I said, is the
dog going to be okay with the cat? Like, no,
you have to keep them separated. Herein lies the story,
because fast forward to quite a big night with those friends.
I was up before everybody else Sunday morning, and I
forgot that their dog couldn't be together with our cat.
Larry and their dog, big Red, is a big border Collie. Right,

(23:22):
They are beautiful dogs with a great temperament. Until suddenly
he saw Larry my cat. Now they later said, no,
Larry a very docile cat, very very docile. They later
said that actually Big Red doesn't normally go for cats.
He would have thought because Larry's a big ass can,
they would have that big Red would have miss read

(23:42):
Larry scanned him and thought this is a wombo, which.

Speaker 3 (23:48):
To be fair, the same Bill.

Speaker 1 (23:51):
Yes, Yes, we had some plumbers around last week and
sudden Larry came to see what the commotion was in
the kitchen and they went, oh my god, that is
a big ass cat, and one of them started taking
photos of Larry. Didn't want to sell do with me.
He took of Larry the cat. Oh my god, he

(24:12):
is a big old boy. So anyway back to Big
Red suddenly being released from the utility room where he'd
been kept overnight. He suddenly sees Larry and goes for him.
Bast seven the morning, Paul, Larry, honestly, Pats, I've never
seen a scene like this. He ran up the wall,
up the door frame so shinning up. So he's that

(24:34):
now above me. I'm trying to move Big Red back
into the utility room, shut the door, and then Larry.
Cats make this noise when they're distressed. A bus seven
w Chris, you haven't let big Red and Larry at
the same time hotel.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
But amazing that he could get up there.

Speaker 1 (24:58):
That that's I still got to scratch here, Larry. Larry
did not want to come down.

Speaker 2 (25:03):
He was up the wall.

Speaker 3 (25:05):
Larry up.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
I didn't know the big I had it in in strength.

Speaker 3 (25:11):
I've only seen that in cartoons, Jerry, and it.

Speaker 1 (25:15):
Literally was his head was stood on it, Buzzball. I
was just like, what can I just behold the scene
for a moment that the dog was barking. Everyone's getting
up and they all know what's happened. It doesn't need
any explaining over here. I was just curious to see

(25:35):
how much does he not like Cats slash Wombats.

Speaker 2 (25:38):
Now we know, now we know Christian Colors Show podcast.

Speaker 1 (25:43):
We're looking for your mum saying mummasms. Diane's got because
the classic because they said so my mom still says
to me, we'll say something and our challenges you go.
But I'm your mom and I'm like, you can't hang
on so that that doesn't mean anything that you can
play that card?

Speaker 6 (26:01):
Mom?

Speaker 1 (26:01):
Where are we going to go with this? So I
haven't got them real and eat it or go without.
Lois has got I'm not telling you again, Shan has
got to maybe turn this car around me turn this
car around as a hall of famer that's on go Islandria.

(26:23):
What have you got? Classic mum sayings? My mom.

Speaker 3 (26:25):
I don't know if this was an Allison the original.
I've never heard it.

Speaker 5 (26:28):
But when we got home from school, we'd sit around
the dinner table and she'd say, all right, who was naughty?

Speaker 3 (26:33):
Who was nice?

Speaker 5 (26:34):
And who have I got a bash? So I guess
she was asking, you know, who is nice to you?
If anyone was naughty, she was going to go down
there on sort of that's great.

Speaker 1 (26:45):
What about yours, Patsy, You've got legend? Mum?

Speaker 6 (26:48):
Mum's funny She would say, do you know your bees wax? Well,
why don't you mind it? So if your bees say
that to yet?

Speaker 3 (26:54):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (26:55):
What was it about bees? Was in a lot of
mum sayings about bees waks?

Speaker 4 (26:59):
What's it got to do with not minding your own business?

Speaker 1 (27:01):
Mind your own bees wags?

Speaker 4 (27:03):
And the other thing?

Speaker 6 (27:03):
If you had like a snooty sort of impression on
your face, she'd say, careful the window change and you'll
be stuck that way.

Speaker 1 (27:10):
Do you remember? Also, I guess a derivative of mind
you and bees works. That guy there thinks he's the
bee's knees. Oh yes, I think they must have amazing knees.
I was in traffic and I was just like, what
was so amazing about? I didn't know where the thought
came from, but I'm like, I must google that when

(27:32):
I get back, or ask chat ept about the legendary status?
Is it well deserved of? Bees? Didn't even have them?

Speaker 8 (27:39):
Know?

Speaker 4 (27:41):
I reckon?

Speaker 1 (27:43):
But do you remember that phrase? Caine? What about your mom?

Speaker 11 (27:49):
My mom would always, forever and ever say God got ya.
So if you did something that was like a big
naughty and then karma hit you, she'd be like, yeah,
God got ya?

Speaker 1 (28:01):
Is evengel God? Then is he?

Speaker 4 (28:03):
It's that teacher?

Speaker 3 (28:07):
Don't do it again?

Speaker 2 (28:08):
So she would do that.

Speaker 1 (28:09):
Sounds like an action movie. I would actually see God gotcha,
God on you. That would be the AUSSI version.

Speaker 4 (28:18):
And she was very, very lax.

Speaker 11 (28:20):
So my mom was first a nurse before she became
a teacher, and so the thing that she would always
say to us is you'll live.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
Yeah, my mom, you're right one time. What would it
take for it to not be said that? Even I
went in bleeding outs. Let's get some tcpins and Vicks
on that.

Speaker 4 (28:41):
I once stood on a rusty nail and I went
through my fortune.

Speaker 1 (28:44):
Oh, my.

Speaker 4 (28:48):
Brother carried me up the stairs. I'm sorry.

Speaker 1 (28:51):
Yeah again, the rusty nail, the blood feed off your
own microphone. I thought you're doing like a remix step.

Speaker 11 (29:00):
My brother carried me up the stairs and I was screaming,
and she's like, it's fine, you live.

Speaker 4 (29:05):
And I got into this dead old buck.

Speaker 9 (29:07):
I did leave.

Speaker 1 (29:10):
Yeah, do you want to get that phonema out there?
These are the show pro juices with their phoneses not
on silent.

Speaker 2 (29:17):
Come on, team Christian O'Connell shown podcast.

Speaker 1 (29:23):
We're looking for your mum sayings today. That's a common
thread between most of these turns out mum sayings. Classic
mum sayings normally involve the threat of impending physical acts
of violence. Yeah, you cannot say today, and nor should

(29:45):
you been able to say back then. I just wonders
how you wouldn't even go, hey, that's awful. You were
just going fair enough.

Speaker 5 (29:52):
Actually, that reminds me if we couldn't find something, my
mum would go, did you have a boy?

Speaker 3 (29:57):
Look? And if I can find it, I get to Belcher.

Speaker 1 (29:59):
Yes.

Speaker 6 (30:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (30:01):
Kids now will be like wait what, but all of
us like, yeah, that's how it was. That's a good deal, yeah, Christian.
My mum used to say, I'll kick your bum to
your back, teeth rattle, w w wrestless something yeah, pushing
My classic mum saying is this is why we can't

(30:23):
have nice things. Yeah, someone got staying spell well, so
we can't have nice things. If you ask my mum
if she knew were something, what she would say, it
is my face red, Well, it's not up my bumder.

(30:43):
And if you did a terrible job cleaning up, she
would go blind Freddy could do a better job. We
never knew blind Freddy was poor old blind Freddy did
he live in squalor thank you very much. If we
hurt ourselves doing something, my mom would say, well, that's
what the fairies did to you, as if it was
some son of act of punishment or what do you think?

(31:05):
This is bush week getting that a lot? And this
classic two. If you don't stop crying, I'll give you
some of the crime out. That's one of the That's sinister,
isn't it. Yes, that's just awful thing to say, you know,
you would think, almost like parents back in the day
didn't like children their own or others. If it's not

(31:26):
one of you, it's the other one About me and
my brother Christian. Another one of my mum's classics was
if we cut herself and we were bleeding, she would
always go, well, it's a long way from your heart,
so it's fine. Christian. My mum regular used to warn
us not to sit on cold concrete or we'd get hemorrhoids.

(31:46):
That's Shane in Sydney. Yeah, I don't do we find
out rio about the bee's niece. The classic mumm is
them Oh, that guy thinks he's the bee's knees. What
was so great about bee's kniees?

Speaker 5 (31:57):
Well, apparently bees store their best pollen in a sack
near their knee.

Speaker 3 (32:02):
Oh, I see strutting around like you've got the best pollen.

Speaker 1 (32:06):
Nectar in your knees. Still fun and games. Still someone
gets hut. Yes, the other woman say you have someone's
eye out with that Christian. Whatever. I want to know
a spell a word, my mom would say, go and
look it up in the dictionary. Problem was, I didn't
know how to spell it, so I wouldn't know how
to look it up in the dictionary. That water tight lodgic. There,
Chris Morning Team. My mom would say, come over here

(32:31):
so I can hit you. My mom used to say
that as well, too tired, long, well, come here so
I can hit you. A lazy psycho, the classic waits
your father gets hot? Oh, yes, again the threat of
him pending fine. When I would ask my mom what's

(32:53):
for dinner, she would always say, ship with sugar.

Speaker 4 (32:56):
My aunt used to say that kidding, I've never heard.

Speaker 3 (32:59):
She was sick.

Speaker 4 (32:59):
If the kids asking, so she'd say, poop with sugar.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
Thank you for editing that polite lady. Christian my my
mum used to say, I put you on this earth,
I'll take you off it.

Speaker 2 (33:14):
The Christian O'Connell show podcast.

Speaker 1 (33:18):
So yesterday, Pats, I did something that many women have
had to do. I found out just how cold that
jell is when you have an ultrasound. I actually go
and have an ultrasound on my kidneys, and so I
just presume that they warm that stuff up, you know,
like when they have the warm massage oil they've got that.
Look at the hot star warms Yes, his eyes cold,

(33:38):
isn't it?

Speaker 3 (33:39):
It's very cold?

Speaker 1 (33:40):
There's there's no there's no.

Speaker 4 (33:41):
Warm now, and it's just straight on the skin.

Speaker 6 (33:43):
It's it's rubbed on, my god cold and then they
like mushed around and things just spreads the coldness.

Speaker 4 (33:52):
Yes, yes, how did you go though? Were you bright?

Speaker 1 (33:55):
Well? When I went in there, I went, you know,
in this small, intimate little space, and it was a
lovely lady that did it as well, who's been doing
ultrasound and radiology for thirty one years. Wow, And so
I felt like, oh, oh, if there's anything, she'll work
it out. It's like when you hear the pilot it's old,
but I want an old pilot who's got some runs
under that. So I go. It's a very small space

(34:16):
and I can't have but see it's just the table
that i'm to line's got that sort of paper they
rolled out, you know, and I can't see obviously the kidneys.
I just was in. I'd be likeing face down and
she'd put the little scanner outside. Yeah yeah, yeah, one
of there, Louise l five is really you know, just
jamming in it, but it'll put an elbow while you're
looking for stuff. I just thought i'd be there'd be

(34:38):
a hole and i'd be put my faces something, and
so I said to how does it work? Do I
line face out? She said no, no, no, she goes, no,
it's you're lining back. First of all, we have a
look on the bladder and then you just line your side.
And I went to a you see my kidneys from
my side doing it thirty one years. You're right, you're right,

(34:58):
a man from radio telling you listen, just give it here.
Actually tune it in for your luies. Actually there say
you do it. So if you get anyone else in
today with the kidney one, do it that way, Patty.
It's all like technical color sort of TV.

Speaker 4 (35:09):
Show, isn't it?

Speaker 7 (35:11):
Tell me?

Speaker 4 (35:11):
Did you have to go in?

Speaker 6 (35:13):
The worst thing is if you have to prep without
going to the loo, like they don't let you go
to the loo with some tests.

Speaker 1 (35:19):
At nine o'clock on that I said the team I
had to go to the bathroom. I don't want to
say what I was up to, but I have to.

Speaker 3 (35:24):
Did you rushed off?

Speaker 5 (35:25):
Really?

Speaker 1 (35:25):
You went on because because your appointments. At ten thirty,
I was under very strict instructions to empty my sell,
empty my bladder. Excuse me, bloody foot. At nine o'clock.
I didn't want to tell that before posting it. It
was excuse me. I just got to I was running
to a meeting. Was a jog on now I was
throwing people out the way, sells, people that were trying
to get together, to get aside. God, it empty my

(35:46):
bladder at nine a m. I had to have a
little a liter of water by nine thirty.

Speaker 3 (35:54):
So then you're putting it all, Jim.

Speaker 1 (35:55):
I was asking you my water bottle, I have it that.
I was going, do you reckon? There's a litera in here?
How much? How much water is in this rio?

Speaker 3 (36:03):
Christian charac is soda stream bottle around.

Speaker 1 (36:05):
Everywhere, but I don't know whether it's a lead and
a half two litersay. I then had to have a
leit of water and a half an hour. That's ninety
thirty and then no nothing, you have to go in
for it.

Speaker 6 (36:16):
They're pushing with that probe on the bladder and it's like, oh,
you need to hurry easy.

Speaker 1 (36:22):
There, you have an accident here.

Speaker 2 (36:27):
Christian O'Connell show podcast.

Speaker 1 (36:30):
Patsy, how was your there yesterday? How was your Monday?

Speaker 4 (36:33):
Had my very first time massage. I've never had a
tie massage.

Speaker 1 (36:39):
They are for the best.

Speaker 7 (36:40):
They are.

Speaker 6 (36:41):
I really needed it. I've got this frozen this is
all about our injuries this morning. I've got this frozen,
frozen shoulder that kind of goes all down my left side,
down my leg and I was just in so.

Speaker 1 (36:51):
Much better now that you should get that scene too.

Speaker 7 (36:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (36:53):
Well, I've been to the physio and stuff and I
just really it was so tight. I just needed someone
to get in there and basically absolutely pummel.

Speaker 1 (37:01):
Me, like just really, no, that is a time massage.

Speaker 5 (37:04):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (37:05):
I mean I've had them in Thailand and they're only
like five bucks, and they're in this shack and there's
like twelve ladies on beds like giggling about stiff foreigners
and they straddle you. I know one of them. When
I was there when we do at the start of
the year, I was face down and suddenly she's on

(37:25):
top of me and I'm face down and I was like,
she's like hummeling my spine and I was obviously making
a bit of noise. She she leant forward, Oh, I
don't be baby man.

Speaker 2 (37:36):
Well I didn't.

Speaker 6 (37:37):
I don't know. I sort of went into it a
bit blind because I didn't realize exactly what it was.
So when I walked in the room, the beds are
extra wide, like you.

Speaker 1 (37:44):
Need to because it's run for two.

Speaker 4 (37:46):
I thought that's weird. Oh well, just go with it.
And then I'm face down and then so I didn't
see the lady come in, and.

Speaker 1 (37:52):
Now they're like Ninja's suddenly, you know, they're like looming
up with that oil on their hands, and next minute
they're on you, bloody hell, give me a countdown, a
jump on the top rope in here.

Speaker 6 (38:05):
She leapt up onto the bed, straddled me with her
fate either side, and I thought, oh, okay, she means business.

Speaker 3 (38:11):
This is going to be good.

Speaker 4 (38:12):
It's gonna hurt, but jeez, it's going to be good.

Speaker 1 (38:14):
And it was.

Speaker 4 (38:15):
And then at the end, when I sort of sat
up groggly on the side of the.

Speaker 6 (38:19):
Bed, I looked at her and she was this tiny
little girl but had those strongest hands grip strength women.

Speaker 1 (38:25):
Not just that they use their feet. It's stomping in
my arms and her feet in my arm pits, and
I was like this or is this just for fun?
And her other colleage like laughing at me. She was
like rocking. I don't think it was part of the technique.
I think it was the end of the day and
she just had some fun. It's no happy ending for you.

Speaker 6 (38:48):
I just felt like a gummy bear the whole time.
But Jesus, it feels good. I think I'm due to
go again. She said, you should come again in like
two weeks.

Speaker 1 (38:57):
You should come all the time.

Speaker 5 (38:59):
You're the most probably I actually sometimes Patty makes me
give her massages in her.

Speaker 1 (39:08):
Noo. Just because he's gay doesn't make it.

Speaker 3 (39:13):
