Speaker 2 (00:20):
Hey, this is the Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Hey, this is Christian O'Connell, just letting you know. I've
got a new book come now in a couple of
weeks time. The reason why I'm giving you a heads
up is you can buy it cheaper than when it
comes out. It's available for pre sale. It's called Unscript,
and it's all the mistakes I've basically made in thirty
years of breakfast radio, so you don't have to make
them in your speaking. Most of us perform some version

(00:47):
of ourselves when we're talking, depending on the situation we're in.
And the book Unscript that I've written, which comes out
in four weeks time, how she finds your authentic voice.
Everyone has these various blocks. Sometimes because speaking is easy,
we all know how to do it, but in certain
situations it gets jammed up. It might be in a
meeting when he got to give an impromptu speech how

(01:08):
to tell better stories. Some of the people have been
coaching over the last couple of years, is even trying
to have a courage to ask a question on a
team's meeting as well. This helps you remove your speaking
block so you can have more confidence in any room,
in any situation, and be more of yourself. How you
can find your true authentic voice. It's called down script.
And right now I've done a deal with book Topia,

(01:28):
brilliant online bookstore. If you use the code word Brightside,
we call the show the bright Sila Dal. If you
use the code word Brightside, you get twenty percent off
and you get the chance to come in and watch
the show as well, and an additional thank you for
pre ordering the book because actually helps me out. Pre
Orders matter booksellers, a lot of bookshops. They all see

(01:49):
how the pre orders are going, obviously not going very well.
They're not going to waste their bookshelves with your monkey
book in there. So I really want to get the
book out there. I love writing this book. I really
hope it could help some people. So as thank you
for me to you. If you do pre order the book,
if you send me your receipts to Christian at Christian
O'Connor dot com dot au, you get an automatic invite
for a special live YouTube show. I'm just doing for

(02:12):
my pre order pals, so send me your receipt Christian
at Christian O'Connor dot com today you make sure you
use bright Side twenty. If you can order from book Topia,
you can save money. Thank you. The book is called
unscript The Radical Act of Being Yourself. I already think
it could help you.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
A Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Welcome to the Christian O'Connell Show Live from Helenon and
the Greatest pub on Earth.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
Good morning Patsy, Hi everyone, what hi are you?

Speaker 1 (02:43):
Good morning Rio, Good morning Christian Patsy. First of all,
no tomorrow, it's your birthday, so let's just say happy birthday.

Speaker 4 (02:50):
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
That's lovely, Thanks guy.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
The scene here is like backstage at a music festival.
There's about one hundred and fifty people that I've never
seen from the radio station. You've never attended anything we've done.
But the offer of a free road trip and a
stay in a hotel a night out, Suddenly they've come
out the woodwork and.

Speaker 5 (03:05):
There did anyone work on a Friday?

Speaker 1 (03:06):
This is the first time. Ye normally every of the
this is empty, but right now it's absolutely heaving here.
But the reason why this over the last couple of
weeks we've been doing up this beautiful pub where we
are doing the show live from today, the Criterion Hotel.
It looks amazing. In just three and a half weeks,
this pub has been transformed.

Speaker 5 (03:24):
It's beautiful.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
It's absolutely beautiful. For some reason, there are about thirty
trucks out of France, like a fast furious scene. We
are in quite a remote area. It's an hour and
a half outside of Brisbane. It is very cold here.
Everyone is like jumping up and down trying to keep warm.
And then this morning, about quarter to eight, Shannon Knoles
is going to do his first of three songs. I

(03:45):
noticed yesterday when he was warming up in the evening
and the sun was setting, he had a great, big
sort of fleece jacket on.

Speaker 5 (03:51):
Yes, Denham fleece.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Yes. I think this might be the coldest gig he's
ever done. Yeah, we should find out has he ever
performed anywhere colder?

Speaker 2 (04:01):
The Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
We are live this morning from the greatest pub on earth,
the Criterion Hoe Like meus this morning in about an
hour and a half from Shannon. No, it's fourteen minutes
past six. Patsy, let's get into double thumbs up. We
do this everday Friday ago. Around the team. We're talking
about the things that were into at the moment. Be
TV show, it might be a movie somebody you might
want to watch this weekend, Patsy, what's it for you?

Speaker 4 (04:24):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (04:24):
For me?

Speaker 3 (04:24):
This week Disney on Ice is back in Australia. This
is like a mid year religion in our house. We've
been taking our daughter since she was two. She turns
fifteen on Sunday. This is how brilliant this is. I
think it's Brisbane this weekend, Melbourne next week, Newcastle and
Sydney after that. If you haven't been, it's brilliant, not
only for little kids but old as well. The other

(04:47):
thing that we've watched this week is Boy George and
Culture Club, the documentary, which is on Stan. For me,
this really was like a trip back into eighties teen
pats really a reminder as well of what a Groundbreakery
was for his community.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
It was such a basically different world.

Speaker 6 (05:04):
Wasn't it.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Christian growing up in September eighty two when their first
hit came out out, you know, it was the a epidemic.
It just happened. Boys did not wear makeup boys did
not dress flambuoyantly, and it's just, you know, such a
reminder of what he did for bringing visibility into the
mainstream world. It's brilliant. If you're around in the eighties,

(05:26):
you will really appreciate that. It sort of transcends you
back into there. It's on stan It's called Boy George
and the Culture Club documentary.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
Oh I changed that out Patsy Christian Connell show podcast.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
We're doing double thumbs up. This is where we go
around the team and you share.

Speaker 5 (05:42):
The suck clip just bashing everything down.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Texting watch TV shows or movies you're up to? Are
you enjoying at the moment? Four seven, five three one
oh four three? What have you got on that clipboard?
You this job? You've literally got one job to hop
with a clipboard. It's better be good now after that.

Speaker 7 (06:00):
I've been loving Netflix's new reality show out Last.

Speaker 5 (06:04):
It is from the creators of Alone. Did you ever
watch it a lot?

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (06:07):
I loved it. Yeah, we loved it on show. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (06:09):
They just send you out into the wilderness and you've
got to last as long as you can. Now it's
by the same people that did that, and now instead
of you being alone.

Speaker 5 (06:16):
You're in teams.

Speaker 7 (06:17):
So they drop about ten people into the middle of
the Alaskan wilderness and the only rule is there are
no rules.

Speaker 5 (06:26):
So it is a proper.

Speaker 7 (06:29):
Like Lord of the Flies, terrifying situation where you see
almost like one of those you know, psychological experiments you
read about in textbooks and things like that, where you
see the best and worst of humanity. Are they going
to ransack the other campsites? Are they going to like
light them on fire?

Speaker 5 (06:46):
It's crazy.

Speaker 7 (06:48):
One of the big takeouts is that if I'm ever
out there and there's a choice between a male team
or a female team, I'm going the women. They are
so much smarter, so much more composed, so much more resilient,
while the men it's all ego erratic. It's like they're
flaming all over the place. So it is a brilliant,

(07:10):
brilliant show. There are three seasons of it at the moment.
One is in Alaska and then the most recent one
is out in the jungle in Panama as well. They're
all so good so Gripping cannot recommend them enough.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Christian O'Connell show on podcast.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Good Morning Australia. This is the Christian O'Connell show for
Chemists Warehouse this morning. You can probably hear from the
rent of crowd. We are live from the pub gard
and good morning, hell of Doon and the criteria in
a how to hotel rio. We actually have a crowd here. No,
this is epic and it is fresh.

Speaker 4 (07:44):
Are you cold?

Speaker 1 (07:46):
Yes? Are you going to be warmed up by some
brilliant music aorned by Shannon? No? Okay, now, none of
those would have been possible without the general support of
this morn here. Pat from four X been around past
four X. We're gonna give away some four X right
now for knockoff Friday. This is the thing we do
every Friday on the show where we ask you what

(08:06):
the best question anyone can ask you on a Friday?
What time you're knocking off our orders? A highlight for
you this weekend. Now to make your butter's go out,
your weekend go a bit smoother, we're going to give
away some delicious forests. Pat, thank you very much for
being at the great support of what we've been doing here.
Big round, foursome, Pat, you are lads welcome and you
might not know this, but Pat actually invented for X

(08:27):
what had been called mister forest. Yes, maybe it's my height.
I don't know. Christian, can you believe this? This is amazing,
Thank you very much.

Speaker 4 (08:35):
I reckon that is a ripper turnout and that just
demonstrates what Queensland's all about.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
So a big well.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
Done to everyone from the community of Ellenor and go
Queensland are.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
All right? So calling now thirteen fifty five twenty two
and so it's what time you're knocking off and we
give away some forests. What you're off to Greece today?

Speaker 8 (08:54):
I am.

Speaker 5 (08:54):
I'm going straight to the airport watching a soccer.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
Us is going to be a real champer to change
from him to Greece.

Speaker 5 (09:01):
Yeah, my suitcase is very confused.

Speaker 7 (09:04):
But if my partner's been in Greece for the last
three weeks barely talk.

Speaker 5 (09:07):
To me, I think he's a bit upset that I'm
going to be medium over there. But I'll be running
straight over to Grace after this.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
Of course. Yes, Soccaro's in action midday must win game.
Are you all going to be watching the game at twelve?
There's about three people here. I forgot them in Queensland.
It's the wrong shape ball.

Speaker 5 (09:24):
They're watching replayers of Game two.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
It origin we'll give away some four X next.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
Good Morning, the Christian O'Connell Show podcast.

Speaker 1 (09:35):

Queensland could get this cold.

Speaker 5 (09:45):
There's people still in shorts, but.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
They honestly that your bread. Differently here fifty people here
are wearing shorts and T shirts. I feel like the
ice age is about to come. I feel like I've
gone back in time to the UK. I left the
miserable weather they're to have. The Australia has beautiful summers.
I remember we're in winter. But thank you so much
for coming out today. Today's the Ray Owny Special show,

(10:08):
not just for us, but for Tracy and Gary. Now
I can't see Tracy and Gary. I get the feeling
that actually is driven off one of those trucks out
of the front. There she is, Tracy, good morning, this
is the public and this is her manner. We're in
her house. Tracy, thank you so much for letting us
come and renovate your public the last couple of weeks.

(10:29):
All right, let's give away some four X right now

after seven o'clock, More big prices as we give away
Australia's biggest ever drum roll. Please live audience here on
the Big guarding a drum drum roll, we give away
his biggest ever meat tray. H what do you love

(10:51):
to win the meat tray? I think it'd be bigger
than winning the World Cup. Is winning a meat tray.
So we have a meat tray that we're going to
be giving away this morning. Is the butcher here?

Speaker 9 (11:02):
The butcher is not here? He dropped off. He said,
we're working this morning, but he's dying to knock off
as fas as he can to get hand for the
Nolsey before months later on This Morning.

Speaker 1 (11:09):

Speaker 1 (14:51):
He doesn't work for us. I don't know who.

Speaker 10 (14:53):

popping things down in here. And it's a bit who,

Intern Pete flew up two days before we came here
and I said, record some secret sounds. This was the
first one. We're going to play it so you can
hear it as well. Just shout out, you'll get it immediately.
What is this sound? Nice? Yeah? Yeah?

Speaker 9 (21:30):
Sorry, yeah, barely.

Speaker 1 (21:32):
Worth the cost of the flights, so it's not going
to be that one.

Speaker 9 (21:35):
This is the real You hear it out loud, isn't it.
You're like, oh yeah, that's nice.

Speaker 1 (21:41):

man at about that turned into a live auction now.

Speaker 9 (22:52):
Yeah, at the back of you. Sorry, my apologies, come
on too.

Speaker 1 (22:54):

right at the end of the show, very very moving song.
This week for Dale Breakthway, he's gonna be doing his
version of horses. Who's excited about that? All right? Right now?

(24:12):
This giveaway so his biggest ever. Meet Trey. We're doing
the secret sound of the Criterion Hotel. This is a
sound we've recorded to this pub and it's a sound
you hear in any pub across Australia. The sound is
all right, let's take some guesses right now, let's go
to who we got here. We've got Adam on the line.

(24:32):
Good morning, Adam, welcome to the show.

Speaker 2 (24:35):
Good morning.

Speaker 1 (24:37):
Adam. What is your guess?

Speaker 2 (24:39):
I think I'm looking.

Speaker 1 (24:42):

I tell you why because pubs in Australia don't have
any locks on the door. It's illegal. Let's go now

your guest, mate?

Speaker 2 (25:39):
I think it's when the tables loose and you threw
in the legs of it like to secure it.

Speaker 1 (25:44):
With the bottom of the league, you get a lot
of wonky tables in the pubs of Australia and wonky
people as well. That's enough about Gary. Okay, that isn't
the right answer. Okay, I'm going to give you some clues.
Oh you hang on this this my hand. You reckon

Speaker 9 (26:00):
Golan be in a country pub.

Speaker 2 (26:02):

also do get the country pubs after eight o'clock, but
that's not on this family show. Okay, anymore. Thank you, Allen.
Hang on the farmer. What's another go?

Speaker 9 (26:20):

Speaker 2 (26:22):

Speaker 9 (26:23):
Oh the wife is here, thank god. Okay, so go again.

Speaker 1 (26:26):

Speaker 9 (26:44):
There unlocking a till, locking a till.

Speaker 1 (26:49):
Good, guess it is not the right answer. There's a
young lad there. What do you want some meetings for
his dad.

Speaker 11 (26:53):
I'm locking the door, unlocking a door.

Speaker 1 (26:58):
Not a sign of George that timoy guesses.

Speaker 9 (27:01):
Okay, yes, ma'am, head over that way.

Speaker 5 (27:02):
I'm locking the cool room door.

Speaker 1 (27:04):

Speaker 1 (27:11):
It's not unlocking and canning and great sign language as
well for me? There can of alcohol? Pete. There's a

We are live from the grand reopening of the pub,
even renovating of the last three and a half crazy weeks.
Shannon not was going to be singing live in about
five minutes time before that though, because we are kind
of like handing the pub back to the accidental publicans
Tracy and Gary. This morning, we have a couple of
areas that are really being reopened, so we're gonna have

(29:07):
some live simultaneous ribbon cutting right now. So Pete, what
have you got to be reopened?

Speaker 9 (29:14):
Yeah, well, obviously we've got Dennis here, has done an
incredible job during this renovations, and of course Pat from
four Est can we just give them a massive round
of a pause? Four ex Dennis, what you have done
here is just incredible. I just want to spend a
quick mone with Dennis.

Speaker 1 (29:25):
Who I'm sure you do, but we must focus on
I just watch him, Dennis.

Speaker 9 (29:32):
I know my apologies, Dennis called into your car. I'm
scared touch your shoulder. But what I want to say
is you we were here six weeks ago, and just
paint the picture what you saw six weeks ago to
what you're seeing today, which you've done as well.

Speaker 1 (29:44):
Well.

Speaker 9 (29:44):
Six weeks ago, as you said, we walk out here
and it was a pretty blank canvas, which was great,
but Tracy and Gary had created what you have is
a nice foundation.

Speaker 1 (29:53):
So we've worked on that and now obviously the four.

Speaker 9 (29:56):
X big garden is taking shape absolutely and Understeed. I've
just spotted someone in my other eye now and we've
been calling him. I think we need to do a
big all hail to King Rich, who is here, who
has literally been running this place for the last six weeks.
We just take a moment right now, Rich, honestly to
see all hail King Rich.

Speaker 1 (30:18):
This one has given up so much of his company's time.
He's throwing everything into this.

Speaker 9 (30:22):
You have thrown so much of this. Everyone on side
here has just been saying the incredible kindness and you
don't stop. Twenty four to seven. How are you feeling
today to see this finished product?

Speaker 1 (30:31):
Oh? Awesome, it's great.

Speaker 9 (30:33):
It's very proud.

Speaker 7 (30:34):
I've got all our boys over here that put all
their blood, sweat and tears into it.

Speaker 6 (30:38):
They should be very very proud of what they've done.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
Cheers, boys, It's not like I did it all.

Speaker 9 (30:44):
Very big part of it. As we said, we're cutting
ribbons every thirty minutes. We'll be opening the toilet hopefully
very soon as well. The brand toilets. We've got pat
from four X back.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
We thought we better.

Speaker 9 (30:53):
Open the beer guardens officially. Right, so we've got the
six hundred dollars pair of scissors that we accidentally purchased here.
They are very very sharp.

Speaker 1 (31:01):
All right, let's do a countdown and Pat from four
X you're going to open up. You have the honors
of it in reopening the beer garden.

Speaker 4 (31:06):
A big right, A big congratulations to you both.

Speaker 5 (31:09):
And here is to the four X Big Garden.

Speaker 4 (31:11):
Give it a Chez.

Speaker 6 (31:13):

the excitement doesn't stop. Guys. We now cross live to
the toilets. It's time to reopen the toilets live on
the show today. All right, Pete, if you head to
the bay.

Speaker 9 (31:33):
I shipped over the beer garden because I was on
my way to the tors but I realized Tanya the
Mayor's back, and we thought I'll just do another ribbon
gunning at the front while I make my way to
the toilet. Hey live radio, Okay, tenure not ribbon and
so what are you actually reopening now yourself. We're just
going to open the other side of the beer garden.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
Not as banned seeing such a sorry.

Speaker 9 (31:54):
Back to the program. He's going to open the other side, okay,

man and we are being around the toilets the last
twenty four hours.

I need to probably say a few words.

Speaker 8 (32:31):
Before we cut the ribbon.

Speaker 9 (32:32):
You didn't say enough before, so let's do it now.

Speaker 10 (32:34):
So I'm thinking, because it is the toilet and it's really,
really poor, I'm will say in twenty six years, I've
never ever ever opened.

Speaker 9 (32:40):
Up the toilets, but it's time time.

Speaker 10 (32:45):

Gary Christian Connors Show podcast.

Speaker 1 (39:27):
Well. Over the last four weeks we've been on a
mission to try and save the pumps of Australia. All
thanks to four X. We have done something quite crazy
and insane the last three and a half weeks. No
one has ever heard of a renovation. Renovations take months
and months and months. The team here, so many people.
We've got to thank we'll do that the next ten
minutes to make this possible. This pub looks completely different

(39:49):
from the beautiful Pub, but it already was when we
found it five weeks ago. So this morning, this moment
is a very special moment. We've got a red carpet,
a genuinely massive, very thick, heavy, very heavy that eighteen
people had to roll out. This thickest carpet I've ever known.

Speaker 5 (40:05):
It's straight from the mit Gala.

Speaker 1 (40:06):
Actually from Buckingham Palace. It's King Charles's carpet. And the
accidental publicans have been calling them, and that is Gary
and Tracy. This is their home. They brought us as
a home two years ago and then they were they
couldn't close it down. So we're going to give the
pub back to them now as they reopen it. There's
a guard of honor being formed as we welcome back

(40:27):
to their own pub and we hand it back to them.
Gary and Tracy come on down the red carpet and
then Shannon I was going to sing song number two
Guard of Honor here utterly confusing, more like a scene
from a cult if anything. To be honest, big run up,
blast to Tracy and Gary. It is time for the

(40:52):
giant scissors. We'll give you the honors to do the
grand reopening off your very own pub, the greatest pub
on earth, the Criterion Hotel.

Speaker 4 (41:01):
Now go yeah, We now give the pup back to you.

Speaker 1 (41:09):
Now. Tracy, what a crazy couple of weeks has been.
How are you feeling today?

Speaker 16 (41:13):
Overwhelmed?

Speaker 1 (41:15):
It's huge, it is, isn't it. There's just this beautiful
crowd here. They've all come out because they love what
you two have done here and what you've really been
looking after for the last two years and on behalf
of your community. Thank you very much for looking after
and keeping this pub going.

Speaker 10 (41:32):
We're just so thankful that you could do it for
us and face.

Speaker 1 (41:36):
To the community. Yeah, it's a lot, doesn't it look incredible?
I mean it looked beautiful when really when I came
in a couple of weeks ago. But it's kind of
restored and now this is a gift for the community
over the next couple of years.

Speaker 9 (41:47):
It is, it is, and she'll live on.

Speaker 1 (41:50):
Now are you are you sick of us? Now? Your
eyes say different?

Speaker 5 (41:57):
Now I'm just a little concerned.

Speaker 1 (42:00):
Ah right, yeah, yeah, yeah, I think they're here for
quite a few of the community actually. Now, big round
plaus for these two legends. Honestly, what Australi needs is
more people like you too. Thank you very much for
making us feel so welcomed the last couple of weeks.
We've loved it this morning and thank you very much.
Everyone's coming along now, are we ready for song too
with Shannon No? Yes, let's bring Shannon No back on

(42:22):
stage now live on Gold for song number two. Big
roundplant for Shannon No. He's just trying to stay warm
in front of a heater Shannon, come and join us
a song number two. So, Shanna, thank you very much
for doing this. Is this the coldest gig you've ever done?

Speaker 17 (42:40):
Nah?

Speaker 12 (42:40):
I sadly no, just the early morning things, that's all.
It's a bit I've getting the vocal cords going.

Speaker 1 (42:47):

in the morning for good reason. Well, I have to say,
isn't his voice sounding amazing this morning? You're belting it out,
You're surning out, absolutely brilliant. You're the perfect perfect person

Speaker 4 (44:21):
