MINI: Alex's Last Day

This morning on Christian O'Connell show, after a year of juggling two jobs and raising three young children, Alex has made the difficult decision to leave the show to focus on his family.

 It's clear that Alex will be deeply missed, but the decision to prioritize family is completely understood and respected. The team has been grateful for the time they've had with Alex, who has been a kind and loving presence.

"I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time on the Christian O’Connell show and the last year juggling three young children and two jobs has been chaotic, exhausting and a lot of fun. 

Working with Christian and the team has been a joy and a privilege, but the grind of holding down two jobs at both ends of the day was proving too much and something had to give.  So, I’ve decided the time is right to put the early morning alarm clock away for a while, and concentrate my efforts on my TV roles and very energetic young family. 

Thank you to Christian and the team for the laughs and thank you to our wonderful audience who tune in every day. It’s been an honour.

for somebody on the show, but sad news as well. Alex,
why don't you share your news money.

Yeah, it's a difficult morning this morning, but a joyful
one and one filled with gratitude because I just want
to say this off the bat, I thoroughly enjoyed my
time at this wonderful show, the Christian O'Connell Show. And
I mean, the last year, it's been so much fun
juggling these three kids, my three young children, and two jobs.
Two jobs. It's been chaotic, but a whole lot of fun.

(01:02):
But I just want to say working with Christian and
you guys, it's been a privilege. It really has. I
want to really focus on that. It's been so so fun.
I've had so much fun.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
We have to it's.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Really been wonderful. But look, the grind of holding down
two jobs at both ends of the day was privy
too much? It really was, and something had to give.
I had some really serious conversations with my wife, Bonnie,
and I've decided to well, the time is right. I've
decided the time is right to put that early morning
alarm clock away for a while and concentrate my life.

(01:36):
It's on my TV roles and my very very very
energetic young family. You guys know that. Thank you to
Christian and you guys for the laughs, the joy. Thank
you to our wonderful audience as well. Oh wow, you
guys are amazing. You tune in every day and it's
an honor to serve you. That's what we do. We're
here for you, guys, the listeners, and so I just

want to wish Christian, Rio, Pats and the team Caitlin
all the very best and the continued success. And I'll
listen on with the fondness of memory. So that's it

We're going to miss you. I did think when you
initially joined the show, I wanted how long you better
do it? Because it's a lot you've got a young family,
three kids under the age of six, holding down two jobs.
Some of you might not know, but not only does that.
It's work on this show, as wall So saw on
Channel seven five days a week. So it's it's a lot.
You've got two jobs and the most important one is

your family.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
That's it. And it's it's been very hard on them,
it really has. And Bonnie as well. So we've got
three jobs. Really Bonnie as well, she's working full time
for the Straight and Financial Reviews. So and I told
the kids yesterday, I set them down. I said, guys,
Daddy's not going to be doing Breakfast round now anymore.
And they were so pleased. The kids, the twins are like, oh, Daddy,

you were going to get to breaking series.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Holy not to be doing breakfast ready and all Friday,
but sadly next sadly next time. And also they're probably
because now you've become full time player coach for the
Hoop Fairies exactly coach, player coach.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
And joining the stress of the school mornings and drop
them off and just be there for breakfast and.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Well, it has been a deep joy working with you
and getting to know you, Alex. I think You're one
of the kindest and loveliest people we've ever had on
the team, and so we're really going to miss you, mate.
But I totally understand any anytime you make a decision
about career and work and the most important thing is
keeping your family and being present for them, you're always
going to be making You're on safe ground. You're making
the right decision.

So so, I don't know many people who would actually
get up to come in and say I'm leaving at
six am. I half expected you could just read this out.
I want to begin that lion now, you know, fair
play for actually showing up the say I thank you.
Not many people come in on their last stage to
say goodbye, see to send an email. So still show

up today says a lot about the pro you are
as well, Alex. We are a going to miss you,
but we also wish you all the best. The one
thing I would say is the moment you finished with
us this morning, turn your phone off because in the morning,
because obviously Pats is now probably back on sport. And
then we've got the World Cup. So many foreign names,

(04:29):
so many foreign names, African nations. It's going to be
soccer as well's gonna be a bumpy old let Christian
