Got anything good?
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Hey, this is the Christian O'Connell Show Podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Heavy Monday on the show. We want to know about
your weekend. Rate your weekend out of five. Patsy, how
was your weekend? How would you rate your weekend, mate?
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Oh, hell yeah.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
For stress level, I'd have to say it's five out
of five for stress, but I'll give it an overall
like two, 2.5.
Speaker 4 (00:42):
Oh, no.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
No, it wasn't that bad. We were just getting the
15-year-old ready for school camp this week, which was just like,
you know, the house was on tenterhooks, had to pack
the insect repellent. Where did we put the blister band-aids?
You know, all this stuff that you don't normally need.
The blow-up pillow, I know I bought one, but I
can't find it. So it was just like that. And
(01:05):
my husband, poor Chris, was kind of getting in the
way a bit. He was trying to help. But the
more he was trying to help, he was really just
getting in the way. And so we said, you know what?
Speaker 4 (01:14):
Why don't you go out for a bit? You deserve
a weekend.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
You deserve an afternoon. A weekend before Father's Day. You know,
why don't you just go out? Why don't you just
get lost?
Speaker 4 (01:23):
No, here's a gift.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
Why don't you just walk into the sea, Chris? Poor Chris.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
So he was fine with that, though, Christian. Chris loves.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Oh, no, I bet he was. As soon as he
shut that door behind him, he was like, woohoo. I
go home and it sounds to me, woohoo.
Speaker 4 (01:39):
They can deal with it. So I said, you know what?
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Ferris starts the day off.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Yeah. Why don't you go and have a drink, you know?
He loves to be dropped off at the pub, kamikaze style.
You just drop him in there. Like a World War
II pilot.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
I would shoot him in.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
And he loves it because he loves Chris's. You know
what Chris is like. He loves to converse with people.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
He loves to chat to strangers.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
You know? No, he is. You know those people that
wander around. They turn up with no mates. But then
within an hour or two, they're public in there.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
Barney Gumbel. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
They'll be singing with Chris in the pub in unison.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
Is he still there now?
Speaker 2 (02:13):
Probably.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
But it was just fascinating.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
So when we went back later to pick him up,
he always meets someone really, really interesting. Anyway, Saturday he'd
met this ex-military guy who had the most.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
I'm sorry, but you go into any pub on a
Saturday afternoon, there's a few of these so-called military heroes.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
Army reserves. Special forces and stuff like this. SAS.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
His fascinating life story. He'd been part of the team
in R & D.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
That had developed night goggle glasses.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
Fascinating life story. Why do you work at the moment? Oh,
these are beer goggles. How many stars would you give
your weekend? Tell us all about it. Christian, it's a
five out of five for me. Excitement and pride.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
Both our under-13s and under-14s won that AFL Juniors.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Football grand final. This is huge.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
And our Rover 45's AFL Masters are through to their
grand final.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Wow. Well done. That's huge.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
Christian, five-star weekend for me. This is Keith, who's been
telling us every week now how his swimming lessons are going.
Keith is in his 60s, and he's had a chronic
fear of water throughout his whole life, and he's decided
to overcome it. And he's been having swimming lessons. And
he's just had his seventh, and he's done his first
full lap in the pool. That should be a very
(03:33):
big deal.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
Massive achievement. Very proud of you. Also learned to do backstroke.
I cannot do that.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
I'd end up going into people. Backstroke's really, really hard.
You need some sort of periscope mirror system. Listen to
them balls. Have a mirrored ceiling there.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
Yes, at school, at the carnivals, everyone would always get
tangled in the lane ropes.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Yes, getting trapped like it's a fishing net or something.
I had a five-out-five weekend. You had a magical weekend.
Two really big highlights for me. Yesterday, we were all
in Sydney this week, and I was flying in yesterday.
It was about half past one, and I was flying
over Sydney. And at the window, I could see it
was not a cloud in the sky. And I saw
(04:16):
the harbour bridge and I saw the upper house. And
I was like, I counted my blessings. I was like,
I cannot believe that life is somehow, we are the
other side of the world. I'm flying into this beautiful
city to do a radio show that I've loved doing
radio for a very long time. I'm doing it in
Australia and we're going to be in Sydney this week
and the weather's going to be amazing. I was like,
I was counting my blessings. And then the other really,
(04:38):
really big thing a kind of mini epiphany for me
over the weekend, over the weekend, this guy reached out
to me and he read my book and he said,
you know what? I'm in my late forties. Uh, I
need a bit of advice and guidance in the midlife
and your last two bits, but it's actually have been
kind of, I don't know if you wear it, but
kind of manifest of how not to do it and
(04:59):
how to do it.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
I hadn't realized whatsoever. It's just been my life.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
Anyway, He's hired me to give him midlife coaching and guidance. Oh,
what have you. And I spoke to him. We arranged
to speak for half an hour. I said, look, you
tell me what you need. And I'll be honest with you.
We'll end up speaking for an hour and a half.
And sort of swapping notes and stuff like that. And
so I'm going to be a kind of, I wouldn't
say coach.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
What about a mentor? Because that's an expert.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
Mentor.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
That's it. Midlife mentor. You're great at that though, Christian. Oh, thanks, Pats.
Because you know what it's like, Patsy. There's no help
for the midlife.
Speaker 4 (05:34):
No, no.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
And you think about it, it is like a second adulthood.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Yes. Teenagers go through hormonal, physical, emotional, spiritual changes. So
does everyone in the midlife. Hormonal, real physical changes.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Back fat? No one warns you about that. Back on my...
Fat on my back? How? How? How do you shift that?
Speaker 2 (05:54):
What kind of back exercises do you need to do
to shift that? And so no one really helps you.
You're on your own.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
And it can be really overwhelming. But.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
It also can be this amazing chance to find a
different kind of way to be in the second half
of your life.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
And that's really exciting.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
And actually, I was always looking at the sky yesterday
thinking about my midlife here in Australia.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
I said, God, yeah, I'd love to talk to him
about that.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
So, guys, I'm now somehow launching my own kind of
midlife journey.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
Business, I've got one client. I love this.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
I won't be retiring from Breakfast Radio very soon, but
I've got my one client. I'm so excited. I woke
up this morning and I already started making notes this morning.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
I was having a cup of tea at half four. Wow,
what a journey. Yes, I'm really excited about that. Rio,
what's yours out of five? Four stars for me, definitely.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
I'm the proud new owner of a leaf blower.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Oh, well done. Rechargeable, you've got your little battery.
Speaker 4 (06:51):
Yes, I've got the Bosch 18-volt one.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
I feel like I remember when I was a kid,
I was about seven years old.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
I got a remote control car and I was so
excited and I didn't stop using it the whole weekend.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
It was the exact same for me all Saturday, all Sunday.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
Oh, I felt so powerful.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
No, no, no. You don't ever use them on a Sunday.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
No.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
No, no. That's a day of respect and rest. No, no.
You don't want to hate the guy. What are the
appropriate times for a leaf blower? I think it's five
to six in the evening. That's it. Okay, on weekdays, okay? Yeah. Okay.
Speaker 4 (07:23):
Yeah, nothing too early.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
No, not too early.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
Especially not on a Sunday.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
Horrible, insidious noise. I was doing it at 9 a.m.
on a Sunday. No, that's actually really antisocial. That's horrible.
I thought I was being so productive. I was getting
up early. So rude. Win the morning, win the day.
Blow the morning.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
And the other thing I recommend, do it inside once
just to see the joy of it.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
What? I tell you what, we always use real Christmas trees.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
And when you were getting them in and getting them out,
there's needles everywhere.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
I go and get the leaf blower.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
And open up the front door, blow the needles through
the house out into the street.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
Oh, the joy. The joy. And just seeing the pets
run for it as well. Run for the hills! It's
the best thing. We should give them away on the show.
I know, they are. And don't you feel like you're
James Bond or something? Yes! You look for stuff to
go and blow. Yes, yes, yes. All right, rate your
weekend out of five.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
Sharon's had also had a five out of five weekend
celebrating 10 years of Great Danes at a winery.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
Christian, over 40 Great Danes attended. Any humans?
Speaker 2 (08:31):
What a Great Dane thing to do, just to hire
a winery and celebrate themselves.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
Because we're Great Danes. Cheers to us, chaps.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
Christian, if I could give my weekend zero out of five,
I would. Saturday morning, someone had hit the mirror of
my car. Oh, I'm sorry to hear that, James. And
then I hurt my knee. I'm still waiting for the
third thing. A lot of messages about the joy of
leaf blowers. Chris, my father-in-law used to use his leaf
blower as the vacuum.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
Oh, I know. That's the opposite.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
He'd blow everything into a corner, then just vacuum up
that bit.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
Wow. This is genius, Paul.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
Christian, leaf blowers are just as addictive as precious washers,
and there's never a bad time to blow or hose down.
That comes from Brock. Christian, when I give my husband
a hair cut, I use a leaf blower to get
all the excess hair off him.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
I know.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
And I love it because it makes his cheeks go
up as if he was a Labrador hanging.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
Out of a car window. Oh, that is brilliant, Kelly.
What fun.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
Christian, I use my leaf blower in the house every
single afternoon to round up the dog and cat hair.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Brilliant.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
Start one, the house blow all into the corner, then vacuum.
That's from Vicky. This is Christian. My weekend was five
out of five. And Christian, I must say, you sound
surprisingly upbeat considering. And then sadly, this man wants to
antagonize me because his Petty team beat my team and
we're now out of finals.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
I'm not engaging.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
My way of dealing with it is it simply didn't
happen this weekend.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
That's healthy.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
While Rio was watching Steel Magnolias, I was watching my
own emotional moment. The D's losing to the Blues on Sunday.
My own Steel Magnolias. Christian, five out of five weekend.
Five districts of girl guys from northern Sydney run a
camp for our younger girls, giving them an opportunity to
try new things, experience indoor camping and meet new people.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
It was an incredible weekend. The girls really, really got
so much from it. The Christian O'Connell Show. Go on. Podcast.
