Speaker 1 (00:13):
Oh my god. Listen to those hits from Busted, all
the way back from early two thousands. We had busted
some of their songs, right, I mean what I go
to school for? Picked at number three on the UK charts.
Formed in two thousand, these boys have given us the
year three thousand. Air hosts there sleeping with a light on,
crashed the wedding their back after a sold out UK
arena tour doing shows in Australia. Busted for the first

(00:34):
time in Australia are in the studio. Boys. Welcome to
the show mate, Great to have you here, James, Matt Charlie,
first time in Australia as Busted. Welcome.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
This is the first time Busted I've ever been here.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
I'm kind of annoyed we didn't come sooner.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Yeah, well this isn't Can I tell you the amount
of British backpackers that we have in this goddamn country.
It's great, but like, if they can come here, where
are you?

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Yes, I don't understand it. I'm just thinking back. I
can't I can't figure it out. But anyway, we're here now.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
He now so exciting. Twenty years too late? No, no, no, no,
not twenty years too late. You guys did the tour
last year in the UK, right, he did the stadium tour.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Yes, gradually it was the biggest. It was the biggest
arena tour of the year in the UK.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Get out really really, we do quite well in England,
so humble you, but you crush it here as well.
Like the corridors at Kiss, we're like, we're talking a
buster talking busted. Oh my god, the appeal of busted.
Maybe that's my fault. I'm like, oh, busted, but everyone
for English people know everyone everyone. We've got this one

(01:32):
girl here, didn't she She works at the Breakfast Show, right, like,
gets up at three am. This is the night show,
so we got a bed at you know, midnight. She
wanted to stay after working from three am to hear
at the interview at nighttime, just to see you three.
She's from Australia. She's an assy girl.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
I actually had to text her last week and tell
her that you guys had canceled and that were really
off you, so that she could be surprised when you
came on the Breakfast Show this morning. That's right, the
restraining order, sir, Yeah, I mean.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
That's really that's really cool tool, right, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
It's great to know.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Yeah. Yeah, so in Australia, if you want to get tickets,
you can grab them. What is what's going on? Is
that all the greatest hits? You've got new stuff with Hanson?
What's not new? It's a year old, but we're playing
it newly here.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Just the hits. Yeah, basically thank you for playing.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Yeah. So it's our Greatest Hits tour effectively, and this
is the last run of that tour, so when we
get back, we'll be focusing more on new record.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
How good and you So, did you guys disband? Did
busted break up?

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Many years?

Speaker 3 (02:31):
All?

Speaker 4 (02:31):
Right?

Speaker 1 (02:31):
When it's almost like you've been a therapy about it? Five?

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Okay, next time in harmony?

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Yeah, I can imagine. And then how long were you
not together.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
For till two? That was like eleven years?

Speaker 4 (02:44):
Wow? And did you all did you chat with your
mate a little bit? We spoke maybe like three or
four years.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Before and again yeah, but no bad.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Blood or anything.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
All mates and just different lives things, you know, okay.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
And then strokes and then what happened? What was the
moment that you all went, you know, want let's get
the group back together.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
I think we we we went on a secret trip
to Philadelphia and we just said, why don't we go
out and just to write some music for a week
and work with the guy called Eric Brazilian who wrote
that song one of us, one of us? God, Yeah,
and time after time say he's awesome.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
He's done some really, he's worked with some big people.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
Yeah. And I played the guitar that time. That time,
time was recorded written none anyway, I digress. So we
wrote a few songs and just spent that week together,
which the first time we've been in a room together
really for ten years, for ten years all together.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
And it didn't suck, felt good man, and it worked.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
We literally we literally put sort of we put the
tour on sale. About two months after that. We thought,
let's do it, let's do it.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
Wow, And the fans loved it. Who aged the most? Matt,
who aged? Come on, who aged the most? I think
we've all aised in different ways. You think, yeah, you're
all very sprightly.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Yeah, really, thank you very much. I leave that today. Yeah,
I think we've all acts in different ways.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
Yeah, I'm the boring one now, Charlie, come on.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
I don't know, I think we're kind of we're kind
of similar, you know.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
I think we're so nice to each other, so nice
you bree.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
Okay, Yeah, I've got some I've got some great little
sprouts coming on my bed or so need to.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
That's the appeal though.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
I'm embracing that, man.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
I agree, You've got to embrace it.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
Look, I'm look at a little bit of silver fox showing
on the side.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Oh my god.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Yeah, man, I'm embracing it.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
Like yes, we go on the head on the top
of a wine doing it.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
I've got all that.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
Shame around going a turkey and everyone's like, oh the
hair trans when I got to hide it. And I've
got mates that are like walking around with.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
It like a hat on, like a bleeding head.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Like I didn't get one. I'm like, you're bleeding from
your head, man, either that or you need to go
to the hospital. And like I didn't get I don't
got a turkey, like all these.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Shitty white fleers, bro.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Like, I think embrace that part absolutely absolutely.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
I think when it comes to like people doing stuff,
just do what makes you happy.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
Man.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
If something makes you more comfort, don't then definitely do it.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
I agree completely the review.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Do it, I will laugh at you forever.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
The point, but you've got to be open to that.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Like if you.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
Get some people get these veneers right, and there's like
no gaps between the teeth, it just looks like a
piece of It's.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
A bit strange. But everyone each their own totally.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
That makes them look in the mirror and feel cool,
and everyone's got.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
To feel good.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
I agree to each their own gets out of saying
so many shitty things. I say something really controversial to
each their own their own out of you do you
who might have judged that one? So now talk to
me about the there's no beef. But when everyone references
you guys in the year three thousand, everyone thinks it's
a bloody Jonas brother song, right because they covered your song? Now,

(05:49):
come on, what happened there? Is there beef there? Did
you give we get?

Speaker 3 (05:53):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (05:54):
I mean they have to ask.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
They had to ask for approval because they changed the
song and had to split up at that point.

Speaker 5 (05:59):
Yeah, money to release it. They have to get our approval,
you know they do if we wrote the song.

Speaker 4 (06:06):
No, they that what happened was they needed they needed
they needed the approval because they wanted to change a
few words, and that's why the phone call happened. And
then and and the agreement was, you know sure, like
to be honest, like I didn't. I didn't know like
really anything would happen with it because no one knew
that Jonas brothers want a thing. It was like Nick

(06:28):
Jonas had recorded one of my songs when he was
like twelve. Wow. And and honestly, there was no sign
of any Jonas brothers until like it was like, oh,
his brother, you know, his solo career is not really
working out.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
Like well he's twelve, Dave, he's a kid.

Speaker 4 (06:42):
Yeah, And then and then and then he was like, well,
you know his brothers are going to be like, you know,
in the band with him, and we.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
Want to take some of your songs.

Speaker 4 (06:47):
And I said, I don't think you need permission, and he
was like, yeah, well there's a couple of lines we
don't want to say on radio Disney.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Ah. Yeah. They were heavily involved with the church and
then with DIY exactly your busted lines.

Speaker 4 (06:58):
They had to Yeah, but it didn't feel like we
have to let this huge band sing the song because
they want they want a band, really they want Yeah,
it was early days.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
There was no sign of them.

Speaker 4 (07:07):
It was more like I just felt like I was
doing a favor to this record company guy.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Yeah, yeah, of course, and.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
Never hear of them again give it to.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
It.

Speaker 4 (07:18):
Just honestly didn't feel it felt like such a you know,
not not nothing, but yeah, it feel big at all.
I mean, I didn't think I'd ever hear about it
ever again. But they just became enormous, and which is
also great.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
It is great because then you think full circle, you
guys come back together, and then you re release the
re release yeah, the song.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
And it was kind of funny because like in America
it is seen as their song, but then in the
UK it is obviously seen as ours, and there's sort
a bit of rivalry between the fans, which is pretty stupid.
But it was nice to do a version, sort of
a definite final version with yeah both with.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
Them, it's almost like two fighting divorced parents and you're like,
you know what, shared custody.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Let's just shared custody of the song. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
And then because when we were playing it on air,
I like, you know, I was always gave you guys credit.
I was always like, no busted brothers, youve got to
do it.

Speaker 4 (08:07):
Do you know what if anything, like the band wasn't together.
If anything, it kept us in the conversation a little
bit while we were gone for ten years. Yeah, you know.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
So okay, you've got brit Awards. You know, so many
people came and saw you in the UK last year.
People are fucking to see you here in Australia. Are
we going to get new Busted music? Because you've touched
on that, Charlie, but you were working out.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
Yeah, that's the plan, man. We're We've actually got a
like a week in the middle of this international run
where we're going to la just to do some writing.
We did some writing at the beginning of the year.
I think we would just want to busted. This next
record is quite important for Buster because you know, I
feel like the next move we make is it's sort
of a blank canvas at the moment, you know what

(08:44):
I mean. Yeah, So we want to get it right,
want it to be good obviously.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
So yeah, we're going to take crushes not on at all.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
Yeah, yeah, I mean there's no point in just releasing
something for releasing something for the sake of it. I
agree completely, especially not especially not twenty years into a career.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
No, no, you don't do that.

Speaker 4 (09:01):
So my question to you three years is, imagine that
he was the manager of the band.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
It would be great.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
Yeah, yeah, I'm chill radio. I play your music. Well,
you know what, there's more power in radio hosts. We
can play, we can that's right.

Speaker 4 (09:16):
Yeah, I said, it's nice that you're in on the conversation.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
It feels like you're part. It feels like it feels
like you're in on the journey with us.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
No, I support you guys, but it's crazy, dude, like
it is. It is so important.

Speaker 4 (09:28):
Man.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
Like when we got told that you guys were playing
the song, everyone was like freaking out back in the UK. Yeah, like,
you know, that's that's huge.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
People don't then we can come here, That's what it tooks.
What do you think people look for now in songs?

Speaker 1 (09:39):
Oh my god, don't even start me, Like I could,
I could. What is a two minute song? Two minutes
and fifteen shorter?

Speaker 2 (09:45):
So you think it should be shorter?

Speaker 1 (09:46):
Yeah, they all put No, I don't think. I don't know.
It's hard. Yeah, I think I think shorter is best.
To be honest. Radio play put the book at the
start like.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
A yeah, little pre chorus.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
Has a bit of pre course. And then you need
a great music video and you need a great social strategy.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Yeah man, that's all you need. That's all you need.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Go for the Gopher jen Z. You know, like really,
Target said they love nostalgia. They love the Jonas Brothers
film and video where you knock on the door ands
Jona's Brothers dressing room, brilliant.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
You know that this guys should be the manager.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
Where is your manager out there? High manager? Well, hi,
how are you a woman? Oh wow?

Speaker 2 (10:20):
I am twenty four baby, I'm so.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
Wow. Do you have a gay man working on your
social team?

Speaker 2 (10:26):
We do? Oh my god loves.

Speaker 3 (10:29):
A gay man.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
Oh yeah, it's the music. It's twenty three or four. Absolutely,
they're everywhere, aren't they? And they really let you know it.
I'm including myself. So boys, my question is has changed
like drastically, like we're hearing now the music industry. Something's
going on. All the p Didy stuff everyone's got all
don't talk about the p Diddy parties, the parties and
all these celebs going, oh my god.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
Well, thank goodness. We never went to those parties.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
Yeah in Miami, but we weren't allowed in.

Speaker 5 (10:53):
Or something that was that was that was was Usher,
Russia was Usher's party, Russia.

Speaker 3 (10:59):
Usher.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
We had a choice.

Speaker 5 (11:02):
We could have gone to PDD party, Usher's party, and
thank god, yeah, thank god we chose us two thousand
and four or something.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
And did you hear like I hear everyone's like, oh
the parties were huge. Did you hear like, Oh, the
PDD parties are massive, They these big events.

Speaker 4 (11:16):
I just I remember the Usher party was like the
we we wanted to go and the lady from the
record company abandoned us and went to the VIP section outside.

Speaker 3 (11:26):
I went, I went back to I went back and
literally I thought, I'm gonna lay my head down for
a minute just before we go work up. Four hours later,
I was missed the whole thing.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
I met my wife that night, no way party, well
like just before, like we were the first time we
hung out. Was that night. I remember that night. I
remember that night so well.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
Was that the night we threw the lizard at the lady? Yeah,
she lives in Australia.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
Now trying to get through.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
There was a lizard.

Speaker 4 (11:55):
There was a lizard on the wall and this guy,
this guy was filming in this show we're doing on
MTV two, This America or a Busted thing. He got
the lizard, he put it in my hand and I
and I I just kind of went like this and
the lady was like, where is It's not there?

Speaker 2 (12:08):
And it was like, right here, No, that's wow.

Speaker 4 (12:13):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
It's two thousand and four.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
It's fine.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
Not what I expected from a Dinny party, but sure,
that's not where I thought this was going. But you
know what, they are crazy parties, so they are crazy.

Speaker 3 (12:21):
Listen.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
It was a pleasure to have you guys on. I
really enjoyed it.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
Thank you. We are very appreciative of the support.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
Thank you, of course, thank you.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
Bought two point zero is out bo. That's a hard
one to say, isn't it, But really I think that's
just amazing. Bom Bop two point Oh. We'll give a spein.
Thank you, Busted. Great to have you
