Speaker 3 (00:09):
Reason the dust only good, bab duggle round.

Speaker 1 (00:13):

what our It don't matter where This is.

Speaker 4 (00:20):
The pick Up.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Hi, guys, you're listening to The Pickup with Bret Hockey
and Laura Burn.

Speaker 5 (00:25):
Can we can we start to play?

Speaker 4 (00:30):
Hey guys, it's our last day ever on air here.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
And you know, just in case you weren't aware, when
we say ever, we don't just mean.

Speaker 4 (00:37):
For Christmas for twenty twenty five.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
This is the very last show of the Pickup for
Breva and Laura.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
No, the pick Up.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
They might replace us with someone else, but it's not us.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
No, there is another show coming next year.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
They're not calling it the Pickup, but it won't be
this and we will miss you. We have had a
wonderful time being a part of aarn for the last
five years. We've had our Saturday show and then we've
been doing this with the over the last three years.
We've had so much fun here and yeah, this is it.
Four years together.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
Laura and I have been doing a radio show.

Speaker 4 (01:08):
I thought it was five, and I think you made
that up. I'm pretty much four.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
Oh, I think you added to you ten years we've
been on here. A decade of our life we've given you.

Speaker 5 (01:17):
It does feel weird every day, five days a week
we have turned up for seven years.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
We don't we're not sure actually how long we've been here.

Speaker 5 (01:24):
And we have absolutely loved every second of it. Like
we just feel like we have the best job on
earth to be able to come in here as best
friends that run businesses together, that have gone through all
of our life changes together. But we've gone through them
with you guys too. We've had kids and breakups and
reality shows, and we've got engaged and had multiple weddings
and all with you guys coming along for the ride.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
And it's just been really special.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
We really have, and we've shared so much with you,
and we have loved every single time one of our
listeners has gotten involved in the show or shared something
about their lives with us as well.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
Well.

Speaker 4 (01:59):
The time has come, but.

Speaker 5 (02:00):
Is our last day here at radio, And you thought,
what a way to see it out?

Speaker 6 (02:03):
Then think of our favorite thing to do here at
the pickup shelter. Fine, but Friday, we're going to do
Fun Fact Friday a little bit different today it is
going to be run by our beautiful producer producer Grace,
because she's also leaving the station as well.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
And I also love fun Facts, and you're.

Speaker 4 (02:21):
The fact Queen. Fun Facts has been one of my
favorites of this entire show.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
And I know you put up a little bit of
fight at the beginning, but really I think it is
the true essence of what makes the pickup.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
No, I it looks fight up because it wasn't that fun.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
It's like fun.

Speaker 5 (02:36):
It's like a fun run. Like fun runs are not
fun to me. So like when the facts are fun,
I froth it. Like what color are of flamingo's feathers?

Speaker 4 (02:43):
Really, it's so true? Question? Oh they're white, but then
they turn pink? Not wrong? Oh they're gray? No they're not.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Do you know that after a flamingo has a baby, Yep,
it loses its color, goes white and then they get
their pink back. And that's why there's like the slogan
about mother and mums getting their pink back after having kids.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
I told you this wasn't Fun Facts.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Sorry, let's go to produce a grave, all right, True
or false? You need to tell me the Caesar salad
was invented in Mexico.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
True. I'm gonna say true because it sounds ridiculous.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
It is true, made by the guy that owns Caesar's palace, Wow,
in nineteen twenty four.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Palace.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Isn't that in Vegas?

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (03:21):
But he also had one in Tijuana? Apparently?

Speaker 3 (03:24):
All right?

Speaker 4 (03:26):
True or false? Fact number two.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
Butterflies remember being caterpillars hondi Nah.

Speaker 4 (03:31):
False. Their brains are too little. Houndy means true. That's correct,
it's true. How do we know what? I'm sorry? How
do we know?

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Did someone ask them to someone sit down and go, hey,
little butterfly, remember when you had lots of legs in
your caterpillar?

Speaker 5 (03:42):
No? They did fundational functional MRI scans to check the
white and brain matter of the butterfly to check.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
No, it's basically just.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
That butterflies know to avoid the same poilson plants.

Speaker 4 (03:51):
That caterpillars do.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
That scientifically does not mean that they remember being a caterpillar.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
Don't you, sore loser?

Speaker 4 (03:57):
I won that one pretty with her brain scans. Shut up.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Alright, let's go next. All right, true or false? Humans
glow faintly true.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
We're radioactive, especially if you've had carrots. In visible light.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
We glow faintly, but our eyes aren't sensitive enough to
see it.

Speaker 4 (04:11):
Sorry, especially if you've had carrots glory. True or false.
If you eat your crust, you'll get curly hair. False. Yes, false, sorry,
all right? True or false.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
The inventor of the prinkles can is buried in one
oh false?

Speaker 4 (04:28):
False?

Speaker 2 (04:28):
I know this.

Speaker 4 (04:29):
It's true.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
He's buried in a giant pringle It.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Would have to be a big one because we cremated
my grandma and also my granddad, and I know they're big.
We know.

Speaker 4 (04:38):
Can I tell you? Well, maybe they're in the same bag.
It's true.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
So apparently some of his ashes are in a pringles
can and the rest of him is in a regular urn.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Sorry when you say he was buried in it, I
didn't know that he was cremated into the pringle can.

Speaker 6 (04:51):
I thought they I thought they made a giant can
for him and buried in the ground.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
So you can't carry someone human sized pringle care. Hey,
I have another fun pringle fact.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
Yeap.

Speaker 5 (05:04):
Did you know that they made the pringle can specifically
so that your hand can't quite fit into it? Because
then the whole point is you have to tip a
mount and eat more because like your hand.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
Can sort of get stuck in there.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
They thought it was so your brain had the same
reward as.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
Like foraging for food. It's that as well.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
Wow, yeah they really The prinkleman was a genius.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
He even made it a full sized springle coffin and.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
Got buried in it, apparently. All right, back to fun facts.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
There are more trees on Earth than stars in the
Milky Way.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
False true, true, it's.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
True, three trillion trees they reckon.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
I thought there was before we mowed down the Amazon rainforest.

Speaker 4 (05:42):
Potentially.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
Yeah, let's come back to that in twenty thirty and
see where we're at.

Speaker 4 (05:46):
All right.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
Our final fun fact ever true or false? Horses are
technically single toad animals. They're hoofs are giant toenails.

Speaker 5 (05:57):
Doesn't a horse hoof like a how I'll have a
wedge in it, so there's.

Speaker 4 (06:02):
Like two in one. Absolutely not, Brittany.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
I've never ridden a horse in my life.

Speaker 4 (06:06):
Absolutely not. Brittany has never seen a horse in her life.
Doesn't have a split like a cow.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
No, horses have four toes, sorry, they have for one
on each leg.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
So one, two, three have four toes?

Speaker 3 (06:20):
What was the question? I don't get it, don't I'm.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
I've got a joke.

Speaker 4 (06:25):
I'd like to fish.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
Now that we're speaking about cows problem.

Speaker 4 (06:31):
Why did the cow lay down?

Speaker 3 (06:34):
I don't know, because all the other ones did.

Speaker 4 (06:37):
Guys, we've got to go. Coming up next, little wins
of the week.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
Why why.

Speaker 4 (06:42):
If you have had a little win this week?

Speaker 2 (06:44):
It is our very final, last one, your chance to
win five hundred dollars to spend at Chemist's Warehouse. Give
us a call to pick up on kids.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
I'm googling horses.

Speaker 3 (06:54):
It is time for the final time we're going to
give money away on this show.

Speaker 4 (06:57):
Laura.

Speaker 5 (06:58):
It's our chemist Warehouse Wins, where you call up he
tell us the little wins of the week and we
give you five hundred bucks.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
It's that easy, five hundred bucks suspended chemist ware House.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
Not bad.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
My little win is that I'm simultaneously doing this break
and breastfeeding, So enjoy everyone.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
That that is a big win.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
All right, big win.

Speaker 5 (07:15):
Let's go to Madeline. Hey, Madeline, what is your little
win this week?

Speaker 1 (07:20):
So I've actually done it.

Speaker 5 (07:22):
I've managed to empty the ancient tub of vassaline under
the sink. Oh, wow, the ancient I don't have an
ancient tub of vasso.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Although I do have a question, how long should you
be using the same tube of vassaline for?

Speaker 4 (07:35):
Does it go on?

Speaker 1 (07:35):
I'm pretty sure they have like an exceptionally long use
by date, and if they don't, I'm.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
Going to stick by the fact that it's still good.

Speaker 4 (07:43):
It still did the sink, so that's the important thing.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
I think it's I think it lasts like twenty years.
I don't think it goes anywhere. Well, Grace is just producing.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
Grace is on the case and apparently last indefinitely if
kept clean and sealed. Wow, that is almost that old.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
So it's concerning. Well, congratulations. All right, let's go to Lizzy.

Speaker 4 (08:03):
Lizzie watch your little win in the week.

Speaker 7 (08:05):
So I recently just got a rescue kitten and she's
getting along really well with my dog.

Speaker 4 (08:12):
Oh, very cute.

Speaker 5 (08:13):
You know that's touch and go, because you don't know
how that's gonna work out. I don't know if a
little kitten would be coming into my house with my dog.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
Yeah. I did the same thing last year. I brought
a kitten home, and now the kitten who's a cat.
She runs our entire house. The dogs scared of us,
so is everyone else.

Speaker 5 (08:28):
All right, that's a good win. All right, let is
finish it off with Natalie Haynat.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
What is your little win?

Speaker 1 (08:34):
Hi?

Speaker 7 (08:34):
There, my little win is I rescued a little moth
from the jaws of a red back spider.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
Oh, you rescued a moth from a red back spider.

Speaker 4 (08:44):
Don't moths only live for like forty eight hours?

Speaker 7 (08:46):
Some do, some live a bit longer.

Speaker 5 (08:49):
That's a pretty dangerous thing to risk your life with
a red back.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
They're quite poisonous, they are.

Speaker 7 (08:55):
But it was pretty special, Like it's well, we made
its way in and I got a little stick and
I'm wove the web a little bit and then I
saw it fly off, which made me pretty happy.

Speaker 4 (09:08):
Lived the happiest twelve hours.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
But it was life. Oh wow, Okay, these are really tough.

Speaker 4 (09:13):
You're a true hero.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
Okay, So now we've got We've got moth, We've got cat, and.

Speaker 4 (09:17):
We have Vassoline. Touch you. I'm going Vaseline.

Speaker 3 (09:22):
I was gonna get moth, produce a grace.

Speaker 4 (09:24):
You're the deciding show. Now you're the deciding factor. Sorry,
I'd be pretty proud if I finished vasselin.

Speaker 5 (09:33):
Line.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
It's a moth Britney all animals.

Speaker 4 (09:38):
To at least the woman with the cat. Let's give
it to vasil basso. Yeah, Madeleine, you have won five
hundred dollars to spend at chemist warehouse.

Speaker 5 (09:48):
You want, you can get Vassoline, you can get make
sure it's in date, you can, Yeahlne, There's so many
different things.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
That you can make going straight for the right we've got.

Speaker 5 (10:00):
We need to look after the No, you can get
the cheese greater for the heel as well.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
Yeah, go and get it all five hundred bucks worth.
You'll be up to your eyeballs in bazileene.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
Babe, what a problem to have.

Speaker 4 (10:13):
For the very last time. You're listening to the Pickup
with Britt Harkley and Laura.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
Burn, we will still stoll be friends for.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
If you guys are just joining the show, it is
our very last break of our very last show of
the Pickup, not just for twenty twenty five, but we
are yeah, we're not coming back next year.

Speaker 3 (10:32):
Let's call a.

Speaker 4 (10:33):
Spade of spade. We are out of here.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
We are out of here for the very last time.
And we firstly we want to say we're so grateful
for doing this show. We've had so much fun over
the past three years, and for all of our listeners,
for everyone who's been a part of our little pickup community.
We just had the best time. Well, we're so lucky.
We've actually been on air for four years. It's going
to be really weird to not come in and do it.

(10:55):
For sure.

Speaker 5 (10:55):
It's a life change, and as wonderful as it has been,
we have some really exciting things that we're doing next year. I,
for one, will finally meet my husband.

Speaker 4 (11:05):
That it's not that Britie's actually going to meet him.
She is married to her husband. She just doesn't see
him because he lives overseas. No, my husband family's overseas.

Speaker 5 (11:11):
We've been long distance for three and a half years
since the day we met, and are we spending a
lot more time over in Italy with him, which as
much as I have absolutely loved every second on radio,
it has his limitations, Like it's a job you have
to turn up to work every day, so it has
limited the way that my husband and I can I
was going to say interact, but we haven't been able
to see each other and spend that quality time, So
I'm going to be personally spending a lot more time

(11:34):
with him.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
Well yeah, I mean it's been really hard for you
over the last few years, brit because in order to
do the show, you've got to be based here and
your husband is doing football over in another country. So
you know, this big change is going to mean that
you spend more time together. And I'm taking off some
attorney to leave. But I also want to say we've
had not just us who get to create the show,
but we have the most amazing team. Grace, our beautiful

(11:55):
producer who's just pushed her microphone away and needs it back.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
That's because the computer was made noises.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
Sorry, we have had such a ball making this with you,
and like, thank you for everything that you've brought to
the show of the past.

Speaker 4 (12:07):
I mean we've been together for a year now, two years,
two years, Holy moly, you've.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
Brought some of the best fun facts with every Friday.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
Thank you. Oh gorgeous Izzy, who is our digital editor.
She puts all together all the beautiful socials. You guys
probably seen how much better our social media has been
into easy join in the team.

Speaker 3 (12:27):
And there's just such a huge team, too many people
to name.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
Well, it's just the four of us, but you know
we we've shared so much together, We share so much
of our lives with you and it has been an
absolute joy.

Speaker 4 (12:38):
If you have loved the pick up, don't worry.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
We're not going anywhere guys, because we have Life on Cut,
our podcast, which is the reason why we got this
show in the first place. Life on Cut is one
of and I don't want to tooot my home horn,
but we're gonna do it. It's one of the biggest
podcasts in Australia. We are a sex and relationships podcast,
but we talk about everything and it is. We have
so much fun making that and that is absolutely going
to be our priority going into twenty twenty six.

Speaker 5 (13:01):
We can absolutely toot our horn laws because it's now
wor never, because literally we're never ever no. But the
podcast is truly incredible and it's it's had over one
hundred million downloads, so like, please, if you haven't had
to listen, come and join the fun with us. We
interview some of the most incredible people from all over
the world from any walks of life, like comedians, athletes, psychologists,

(13:24):
kidnap survivors, you name it, like the most incredible people
of their fields.

Speaker 4 (13:28):
They're on the podcast.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
But I guess the big thing about Laugh on Card
is that it's not an interview podcast. You know, all
of the personal stories that you guys hear from us
on the pickup, you get the more unhinged version, oh
more heart so like do come and have a listen
and have a wonderful Christmas, everyone, have a wonderful New Year's.
We are just sending all of our well wishes to
you into twenty twenty six, and we're gonna miss you guys.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
Yeah, this won't be the end of us, don't you worry.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
Oh up somewhere and pop up all right, guys, well
for the very last time. If you want to catch
up on anything and you missed any of the show,
like I'm going search life on cad wherever you listen to.

Speaker 4 (14:02):
You to be friends, do you, guys?

Speaker 3 (14:10):
Chump to be bye? Love you guys.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
