Speaker 1 (00:01):
Here at Two Good Sports. We would like to acknowledge
the traditional owners of the land on which we record
this podcast. There were injurie people. This land was never seated,
always was, always will be. Are we ready?
Speaker 2 (00:19):
I'm that staying in. Hi everyone, I'm welcome to Two
Good Sports. It's sports news told differently.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
I'm aby jell me and your I'm Georgie Turney. I
think I think I'm here. I just wanted to make
sure that everyone was ready. We're ready to go.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
You're a team player. No one can say otherwise.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Congeniality. I've always said that.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
You know, I actually won miss Congeniality. I should bring
a session. I can't believe I'm saying this on a mic.
Can we son again? Somewhere in the very very back
of my wardrobe is a miss congeniality. You have to
bring it, legit.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
You must bring this in.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
I think that will stun listeners, because I'm not very
congenial when I come in here, I'm like, this can go.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
Absolutely not.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
You. It's not nice. You're here. I'm just moved back. Look,
come on here we go.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Do you know, dear listeners, it's minus four degrees in
Melbourne's okay, right now, it's so cold. It's so cold.
I've come in hot, I've flown in for the pod
and I had to literally just shake like a dog
the icicles from my frame as I exited the airport
this morning.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
This is actually a wonderful segue. It is into my
first ever retraction. What our first ever? How many seasons
has it been? Forty three? First ever retraction?
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Wow?
Speaker 2 (01:39):
On two good sports? What you mentioned how cold it is.
I'm currently wearing about twelve layers. That is exactly how
many guernseys I would be wearing if I was got Pendlebury.
Because I may or may not have said the gold sucks?
What are you doing? It has become apparent that the
AFL have given him an exemption to take all proceeds
(02:02):
of the memorabilia sales and the guernsies they can fetch,
and so Luke could was on radio this week saying, look,
I retired a long time ago, but also like my
milestones were nothing compared to what we're going to see
on the weekend and the fandom that comes with Collingwood.
Some of his jumpers fetched forty to fifty thousand dollars
and that's without the pies. Unhingedness. Yes, that's right, we
(02:25):
love unhingedness. Yes, hello one of us. Yes, Scott Penbry
might wear twelve guernsies that day, not this weekend, but
when they play West Coast at the MCG in order
to sell them. I would be Joey TRIBBIANI could I
be wearing anymore Gernsis? He could make half a million
(02:46):
dollars from jumper sales.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Hang on, but are you saying that other proceeds of
that going to charity or he keeps them?
Speaker 2 (02:52):
He keeps them?
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Oh okay, I thought your attraction was going to be
like anyway, guys, I want to take back the fact
that it's a hideous jersey because all of those pro's
going to go to the charity. But the charity is
the Pendlebres and it is.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
And this is all happening in context of he's lost
a lot of money to his manager. That's been a
really public fight that he's had going on. Basically, he's
been swindled out of a lot of money. Okay, And
he is a universally accepted good guy. He's been a
wonderful servant of the Collingwood Football Club and has accepted
what is almost under Tom Brady, I e played a
(03:26):
lot longer than anyone else has. But also Hanifridge has
taken unders in order for the club to get better talent.
So he's just been this unbelievable servant to Collingwood. I
honestly think one of the jumpers will go for one
hundred K.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
What you're telling me is that the gold number ten
is made from actual golden the way.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
The prices are going, that's, isn't it. But I also
think the AFL have opened a can of worms here
really well, but Franklin didn't receive one hundred percent of
all proceeds from the thousandth goal, Like there's I think
there'll be a lot of players given that AFL players
in the scheme of world Sport are remunerated well, but
they're not. Ronaldough like in terms of ratio, you are
(04:09):
better off being executive of the AFL than you are
being a player.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
Well, we've had this discussion before when it comes to
team brands, right, and like by team brand, I mean
personal brand, yes, hello Petruka, Yeah, like you know, and
the build of that because it's like, well they have
to make their money. Well they can because well we know,
we all know that sport is a very very short career.
It can be, it can be unless you are Scott
Penalbury who sleeps in. I can only.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Issue it's the hard and having career best like. So
it's insane winning ANZAC medals.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
Yeah, incredible, incredible, incredible. Okay. So what you're saying is
that when you run out in your four hundred thousandth game,
you'll be banking that You'll be banking all that coin
from all of the merch sold.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Oh can you imagine me? I'd run out covered in
badgers and lick all of them and say, who wants it?
I will come on, it's a house deposit and a
good house. I completely initially I went, don't love this.
(05:12):
Now I'm like, yeah, you were off it.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Okay, this retraction, okay, okay, I like this, all right,
all right.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
I'm very very intrigued to see how the AFL are
going to handle this going forward because the split of revenue,
and it's all well and good for Collingwood to decide
to do it.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
It's interesting, it is interesting. It is interesting.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
I reckon Eddie Maguire will buy one from a meal.
Oh and does that become a salary cap thing? Can
people affiliated with the club a question?
Speaker 1 (05:46):
Greg English gets one bloody speedboat and it's all anyone
can talk about.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
I mean, Geelong, you get a contract, you get a far,
get a contract, you get a far. I mean, wouldn't
you work for Cottonam, Why wouldn't you come on? Come on? Anyway,
we love Cotnam. Kids'll send me something.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
I have a bad sport. Oh, I know, and it
is one that I have touched on previously on this podcast,
even on this season of the podcast. But I'm just
going to double down, triple down, quadruple down underline, and
my bad sport is the injury gods once again coming
for the Brisbon Broncos in particular, but coming for one
(06:27):
player from the Brisbane Broncos in particular, Dean Mariner. So
our winger do you know this? A couple of weeks ago,
when we got thrashed by whoever knows who, he had
to leave the field with a nasty looking cork. It
was like it was, you know, he was hobbling off.
I'm not sure if he actually eventually went back onto
the ground, but anyway, he was just like receiving treatment
(06:47):
on the sideline. That night, he had to be rushed
to hospital for I kid, you not limb saving surgery.
This is a current rugby league player. You had to
have limb saving surgery because he had acute compartment syndrome,
which is essentially like the cork then just went ballistic
(07:10):
and they had to operate. He's had five surgeries in
the past two weeks. Five surgers from a corky from
a corky no doctor.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
On but I think yeah, was there on some sort
of vessel?
Speaker 1 (07:20):
No, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And it's like if you actually,
I mean, I don't recommend doing this unless you have
a strong stomach.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
But don't google.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
I'm a massachist, but I've googled a cute no no
apartment syndrome, and I'm just like, what on earth? It
looks like he was survived a car crash. It's like
that catastrophic and injury. And they're like, is it like
he's trying to reject his leg. It was like it
was like the pressure in there was so much so
it's like almost you know who you've seen those holidays? Yes,
(07:46):
it's like she's just an ordinary girl. And then someone
needs an emergency surgery and she's got a pen knife
like that vibe. That would be me on the sideline.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
Being my prepent.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
Just south, save your leg, Dan, get the air ambulance. Yeah,
and no one is talking about it. I'm like, guys,
the man really.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
Lost his leg, So like, how long ago did he
nearly lose his leg?
Speaker 1 (08:09):
Two weeks?
Speaker 2 (08:09):
It was only two weeks ago.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
I don't know about that exactly because no one has
a forensic eye on the Broncos bench.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
Like me and am still looking at the fact that
Manly beat the Broncos. Oh yeah under Kieran Forum. Yeah,
who can't miss? He can They're not interviewing anyone else.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
Yeah, yeah, it's only he's one year out of.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
The game and it's going to be coaching Manly.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
I know, and can't miss. He cannot miss. He's probably
gonna be coach of the Year, that's how well he's gone.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
And can demand big dollars. He can because there are
opportunities in coaching at the moment.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
They really are, They really are. And I really like him.
I love Kieran Ford. He's just such a vibe.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
I'm like this man because he's about our age George,
what do you mean you've got all? Mate? That's four
hundred and twelve Wayne Betterett, Yeah, come on, I was
gonna say respectful. Do you know what is? I'm terror fuddle.
I'll only ever say this year. Every time I go
to say Wayne Bennett, I think Clint Eastwood, and then
(09:05):
once I go Clint Eastwood, I can't come back because
he kind of looks like him, right, he does. It
happens to me on air all the time. And just
then I was like, oh, mate, who's four hundred In
my head? I'm gone don't play Clatwood because he's super
coach and it's Wayne Bennett. But he does look like it.
He does look like telling that movie where he's really
grumpy with.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
The Grand Torino to Reno, and I was like, he
is in every press conference is grand Toarino. Wayne Bennett
also dirty Harry make my day. He's just looking at
the journalists being like, that's him, that's him, non stuff,
Thank you, my guy. I love that. That's so good.
I don't know you're gonna take it there, but yes,
I feel like we should call Wayne Bennett mister Eastood
now on this podcast. You see, yes, I do now
(09:46):
that you've seen it, you can't unsay it. I can't
unseae it. I really can't un see it.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
You're you're right, but it's a tick of mine and
I don't know if ABC viewers will think it's as
funny as what you do. So I really need to
be like Clint Eastwood.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
Nonette, sorry, oh no, but one of them is the coach.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
He's going to be coaching until he's in his eighties.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
Right, well, probably, I don't think Wayne's going anywhere. Wayne's
not going anywhere.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
We're how old is Wayne Bennett now?
Speaker 1 (10:09):
Seventy six? I want to say, and he's he's let's look.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
Seventy six is your swing? Yep?
Speaker 1 (10:14):
That's my swing?
Speaker 2 (10:15):
And has he signed a contract renewal of some variety?
He's seventy six? Okay, that's you got that from the
mind Palace, the mind Palace. You have got that from
the mind Palaces. Very very impressive.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
It never fails me. He's born on January one?
Speaker 2 (10:28):
What does that tell him? I have no idea, was
just random, but January GPT. How long does Wayne Bennett
have on his contract? I need to that.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
Is a capricorn.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
It's so far beyond the retirement age that he's still going.
What's you guess? I reckon, he's got a couple more years.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
Maybe two, but he might be going into actually, no,
maybe only one, because then he might go into a director.
You know, he does all those director roles, so he
might actually be taking a back seat till the end
of twenty twenty seven. God oh, but Souths might be
looking to extend. So actually we're not sure. We're not
sure what he's going to do. They want to extend
to at least twenty twenty eight.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
May here we go on over to Perth or may
that kind of work never find me. I don't want
to be working that intensely into my late seventies.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
Maybe you will. What would you do with your time?
Speaker 2 (11:21):
Not every week? For like come on? So when we
had Ryan off than on, Yes, and he's saying, I
don't want to coach. Do you want twenty year olds
to decide your life? This guy's had twenty year oles
to decide his life for like forty years.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Very true, very true. But he's the most iconic coach
in the game, one of the most iconic coaches in
all of the games in this fair country. I would say,
and also, we are getting ahead of ourselves, Jommy, because
we are going to be talking more in depth about
coaching in our main discussion. But before we do that,
do you have a good sport? Bats? But I do
understand that I have taken over.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
Oh yeah, mum's a bad traction.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
Oh that was your good sport, Bat, That's all I've got.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
Oh that's all I'm a bad sport Scott Panderby is
a good sport? Do you one else? Is good? Money
for him? Load up? Load back it up, back up
the truck, like just.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
Unbelieving for you, coming for you.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
Good on him, good on him. Play forever, buy another
hyperbaric chamber, our main Chad's coming up next, Georgie, What
a week in sport? What an unbelievable It's a sort
(12:33):
of week that if you were working at a radio
station that was specifically in sport, you'd be like, thank
you for the gift, thank you for the gift. That
was the amount of news that happened this week, and
it left me thinking, who'd want to be a coach? Oh?
Speaker 1 (12:48):
Yeah, yeah, it's a lot, It is a lot.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
It's a lot. Michael Voss and what he went through
at Carlton, and also the fact that Carlton, I don't know,
went through a restructure where they decided, oh, we don't
need Charlie Kerno. Do you want to yeah, have him,
But we still expect you to perform, to.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
Put this into some context for people who maybe aren't
aware of just the passion that exists with footy fans,
the passion that exists in particular with Blues fans. Remember
most recently, I think it was only like last week
there was that it went viral and it was a
for sale sign out the front of a house in Melbourne,
(13:25):
and it was literally the real estate that particularly real
estate had decided to write on it. What goes first,
this house or Michael Voss.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
I've been driving behind a van that had graffiti on
the side that said sac Voss and I'm going, I
don't know if that's the truck driver that's gone I'm
going to take this all my personal branding, or if
someone has vandalized this guy's van and he's decided to
just keep driving around with it. But I, as you
all know, my better half has been a coach before,
(13:55):
not at the senior level, but who knows. One day
and I look at it and I'm like, can you
imagine having behind someone been like sack Tunny?
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Oh yeah, well who goes out? What do you mean? Imagine?
We get those comments all the time, like not not
to the point where yes, I am like Michael voss
there is a house.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Imagine driving past a house and going someone has thought
my job, my livelihood that pays my mortgage, gets my kids'
school books, is open slather enough that you can joke
about me losing my job.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
Well, it becomes stuff, It becomes so all consuming. And
I have to say that I did really feel for Vossy.
You know, all all of you know. I love Vossi
because of his legacy with the Brisbane lines, but I
love him as a man. He also tackles dilin Quin's
remember that. Yes, so he's a good man.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
God, when you have a public arrest, citizen arrest.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
Citizens arrest like he is, he's a great man. However,
I do believe that the position was untenable.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
Oh agree, he could not.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
He could not have continued because the Blues have just
been so Fridge. His overall coaching record for them bar
the twenty twenty three season, I think is altogether quite forgettable.
Something is happening there, there's a mismatch. It's just whatever
(15:15):
he's wanting is not being filtered down through the players.
Is he allowed to do what he's doing. Is it
coming from an up like the board level. There's a
disconnect going on and they're not winning games, and you
cannot remain coach if you're not winning games unless you're
creat billy.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
Which is essentially what they said, which is essentially what
was said in the press conference. They were all very
glowing of Michael Voss the person, but they essentially kept
coming back to the win loss ratio and saying, we
just this doesn't fly. And at the end of the day,
it's like his scorecard. You can be the nicest person alive,
but if the scores aren't winning, it's all over. But
I think the nice thing that's come out of this
(15:49):
week and listening to a lot of the feedback about it,
he's still accepted as an exceptional football person. It was
just the way that the club was going. They needed change,
and so much so that they've changed their list manager
as well. And we've seen with Melbourne how much a
change of a coach and a change at the Helm
and especially a few players leaving can see this revitalization
(16:09):
that happens quite quickly. And Carlton just aren't meant to
be in a rebuild. It's not meant to be where
they're at at the moment. And I think even under
the Voss administration, there were a few finals there that
they won and people thought we're almost there. Oh, we're
almost there, and it's just but I just sit back
and I just think I still believe that as a
society and also as a media entity, we all need
(16:34):
to be respectful if you were talking about someone's job,
well in that livelihood.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
I hope that he firstly, I hope he's okay.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
I hope this week.
Speaker 1 (16:45):
I'm hoping he's sleeping. I'm hoping that he's actually going
to just take he can take some time, yeah, and
just maybe just like put footy to the side a
little bit. I don't know if it's possible for these
kind of footy types now the brains, it's not.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
But he just thinks completely hypothetically.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
Hypothetic, like you would know, but he needs to, like,
I don't know, move to the Swiss Alps for a
hot second, Like do you know what I mean, like.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
Just why do we always go Alps because we've never been,
Because we've ever been. You've been everywhere. What you've been
to Alps of some variety. The amazing race took you
to an Alps.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
Yes, the Himalayas.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
That's so different. Didn't know a pole didn't count Alps
as opposed to Himalaya. Sorry, my mistake.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
The Swiss Alps has more fond you.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
I can only okay, love that for him, and more skincare.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
More skincare. He's a pale man. You know he needs it.
He needs it, He just needs and you know, we all,
we could all use some self care right now, okay,
especially of the week that he's had.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
So you won't find anywhere else. You will not find
it anywhere else otherwise known as skin analysis.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
But I just I'm intrigued to see, as we always are,
when this happens, how the team responds.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
But I also there must be upside to coaching in
that you see someone like Craig Bellamy be diagnosed within
neuro gendry. Wow, neuro degenerative, that's that you got it?
Thank you? Yeah, God, I am having a seizure today.
Condition And he decides to coach on yes, and I
(18:17):
think it just gets in your blood.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
I would say so when we had Adam Kingsley on
Friend of the Pod, you know, and he was just
so the tenacity that he has, but the love for
coaching because you get to get to compete, you get
to compete. It's that competition. These people they just cannot
they can't let it go.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
They can't let it go. Something we could never relate
because from the outside I'm looking at Craig Bellamy being like, mate,
if you could got to press an eject button now, yeah,
we'll not have to deal with.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
This rubbish, which which leads us to second part of
main discussion. Because a lot of coaching news yes now
to my code. When you get like a little media
alert and it says Ivan Cleary to make announcement, I'm like,
has he got forty eight ths? Like just ready to
run out? Jet? Literally, I'm like, where it's jet? Someone
(19:05):
get eyes on jet. But it's like about his future.
I was like, oh, Christ, are they signing him up
for like thirty years? What are the Panthers doing now?
And it's like he expected to walk away from the Panthers.
I was like, what so the news. To quote braitha
Asta on NRL three sixty, this come as shock. This
(19:27):
come as shock because I just don't think I've killed Jeremy.
Just don't think this come as shock because no one.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
Was expecting sorry, oh come eventually.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
That's really tickled me.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
I don't know why.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
You can imagine him sorry, I'm back.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
You can imagine him saying it was a round table.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
I'm ready, yeah, yeah, yep, because no one was expecting this.
I mean, he's made the announcement eighteen months before the
end of his current content.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
Which is such an nurl thing to do, which it
is it.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
Is, but it also means that it's interesting on so
many layers for the Panthers themselves. I feel like as
a club, they would have wanted him to kind of
not make the announcement just yet.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
Yes, because they've got him so well, They're.
Speaker 1 (20:24):
Going so well when it comes to re signing very
important people. If you've still got like Ivans there, which
means Nathan's probably going to be there. But now you
have the possibility, very likely possibility that too Clearies are
living at the end of twenty twenty seven.
Speaker 2 (20:39):
Drinking, Nathan will follow him. I think and do you
think that you've been cursing the wrong voodoo doll? So
like whoever you've been sending bad vibes to has been
like Cleary, got it, Cleary out, that's what we need.
You're like the wrong one, wrong on that one's got influence,
but not as much as what I need. God damn it.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
Well, interestingly I do, because I don't think that Nathan
will want to play the Panthers without his dad. I mean,
they've built such a dynasty there, Yeah, and he'd see.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
Me interested to find out what it's like to be
coached by someone that's for.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
One and a half million dollars in P ANDNG. Oh
maybe one and a half million a season tax ray.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
Does P and G have a coach yet?
Speaker 1 (21:17):
Yeah? They do, Yeah, they do. But you could have
Evan coach a P and G josh some why Yeah.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
Well the fact that it's someone yeah, yeah, and it's
not Ivan Clary. Yeah, so maybe they do a swap
sea Well.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
Well, this is the thing in the press conference yesterday
where Ivan announced that he was going to leave the
Panthers and he would no longer be NRL coach and
NFL coach from twenty twenty seven. That means that he
could The Panthers have already offered him like an advisor role,
like a director ship role, but he could take one
of those in another club. He doesn't have to be
a coach. He doesn't have to be the head coach.
He could be like the director of football, the head
(21:48):
of operations. He also could be a rep coach, so
he might. I think he want to play. He want
to take on the new South Wales gig which Lord
help me.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
I mean, come on, you've got Billy Slater, come on.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
Yeah, thank god, thank god, now they can live. All
the other survives. Look at this, Billy and Ivan.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
I worry against each other. I worry for the Morones,
given that the storm backbone that has been so strong
for so long is a little bit like might need
surgery to save.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
Yeah yeah, literally, yeah yeah, yeah yeah, limb saving surgery.
We might need the limb saving surgery. But the limb
is the spine.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
Yeah yeah, but the spine the spine of the Morons,
of the Morones. No.
Speaker 1 (22:30):
Yeah. The thought of like Ivan Cleary anywhere near the
Blues team in the next few years, I mean, you
talk about the Queensland dynasty yeah, it gets me worried.
It gets me worried. So he could go there, but
then I'm going bigger into twenty twenty seven. What are
our old mates doing at rugby union? Wallabies should be
like hello, I then come on over, well, come do
(22:51):
something Nathan.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
Michael Checker was in the frame to potentially be coaching
as well. Yeah, so they can just like he's.
Speaker 1 (22:58):
Just living it. I shouldn't say where he lives. I'm like,
I'm just sorry, can I coffee the other day?
Speaker 2 (23:04):
Yeah, you're referencing. You're talking about New South Wales as
opposed to Victoria where you want out. Oh he was
just and I'm like several states over. Okay, great, wasn't
Michael Checker going to be He's in the frame to
be the next head coach of the Roosters. The Roosters, Yeah,
it's been there. He's in there doing a role in
the background. And I was like Checker, I'm like, I
know that rugby has been fluid in my mind in
(23:25):
different years, and by rugby obviously mean league.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
Come for me, Oh my god, I'll come for you.
Speaker 2 (23:32):
I'm aware you're actually in reaching distance today. So I've
chosen the wrong week to do it. But if Michael
Checker can go to the Roosters, then you can't tell
me that I have and Cleary can't be like, hey Wallabies,
you up for a World Cup?
Speaker 1 (23:44):
Yeah? You ure, and you think about it because the
time is right for Rugby Union to be striking. I mean,
they've got Angus Krachton going, they got our favorite market.
Mark is going like yeah potentially, like if you can get.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
A Cleary, if you want a Cleary to And Rugby
is very comfortable at the moment with the rebrand being
like if you squint its origin, That's what they're trying
to do. They're basically like people take the household names. Yes, yes,
because why wouldn't you.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
Why wouldn't you, Why wouldn't you. They need to do something.
They need to do something to get the attention and
to get people to care. But I think that for
Ivan Cleary, the legacy that he leaves at the Penrith
Panthers is I don't even know We're going to talk
about it for decades and decades and decades, the history
of the game. It is only literally Clint Eastward, better,
Craig Bellamy and then Ivan Cleary, like those are the people.
(24:32):
Those those are the names.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
And you think of the four Peace, especially the moderns
in modern game wild the back to back to back
to back is now.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
The fact that he could win four straight premierships when
it had taken so long for a team to even
think about doing back to back before the Panthers did
it is unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
And he bred an immortal.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
He bred.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
There's a level of you made a cleary. Yes, there's
a level of whatever you did.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
And Mary Fowler's your daughter in law.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
Yeah, is that the dinner table?
Speaker 1 (24:58):
All right? Families google Chris.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
So he is still coaching out to the end of
next season.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
End of next season, which is a long long time.
Speaker 2 (25:07):
The emotional maturity that you leagues have.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
Yeah, I know, I know, it's very impressive. I know.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
He did make it two hours announced that week and
then they go, fuck you, I'm not coaching this weekend.
As soon as they know they're going, You're like, would
you like one more game? They're like, no, caretaker, see her?
See him? Ever, I don't figure it out. Well.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
Peter Wallace, who used to be the Brisbane Broncos half
back and then also to play for Penrith, I understand
is going to step into the main head coach role.
He's been within that system at Penrith throughout these all
this this whole dynasty. So it's a great, very very
big step up for him as the player to coach journey.
Speaker 2 (25:41):
The table there aren't they?
Speaker 1 (25:42):
Ah, yes, I do believe so, yes, this is the thing.
He could win another two Premierships before he goes.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
Oh did you just fly into you?
Speaker 1 (25:51):
Okay, yeah, that actually hurt me. Was hurt gap coming out.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
But.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
It's so. But he could, he could, he could feasibly
do that, which is unbelievable, unbelievable. But Nathan Cleary is
technically a free agent as of the end of this year.
I think he'll obviously stay at Penrith for next year
because it will be his dad's last season. But then
I think he's he's maybe goes. I mean, if I
was Perth, Malma Ninger, call it, get him on the phone,
(26:19):
you need to do something.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
Perth can't afford him with the lack of tax breaks.
But maybe they exemption just him.
Speaker 1 (26:26):
You could of all the people or Nathan, clearly, you
could just have one player.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
And it is easier to fly to Europe from Perth
than it is from the east of State.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
There we go see see straight into Paris, fly straight
and see Mary straight and to see Mary Mary.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
Fun fact? What have you got?
Speaker 1 (26:46):
Fun?
Speaker 2 (26:46):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (26:47):
I have a video to show you because I.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
Can we talk about your phone case. Why is there
a naked babys AARs looking at me and I'm not
at home?
Speaker 1 (26:59):
It's a sunny angel. Everyone who's not watching our incredible
feedt it's it's those kids, were there, little gumnut fairies.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
It looks like a gumnut fairies.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
It's a sunny angel. But it's like, you know how
there's laboo boos and then there's lafu foos. It's a
lafufu sunny angel. So it's a fake one.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
A lovefufu sunny angel. God help me.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
Things that you love things? Okay, okay, I do have
some fact, yes to keep to keep the chaos going
and raining. Did you know it doesn't really have anything
to do with sport, but it is pertinent to you
and your love of space. Two percent of Americans still
believe the Earth is flat. That's six million.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
People, one in fifty who's think of the Earth is flat.
I mean, I'm not great, but I can half a hundred.
That's it. That's not fun facts. It's worrying fact, worrying fact, worry.
We explains their president elections.
Speaker 1 (27:56):
Okay, you know me and you know that I'm an
existential creature. Yes, as are you. Ye, so this one
will probably help. Actually not with out crisis. It's going
to deepen it. Here's another fun fact. Cleopatra is closer
in history to the present day as she was to
the Great Pyramids being built.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
I would accept more Americans thinking the Pyramids were not
built the way that they're meant to be built, rather
than the planet being flat. Whoa, Okay, Nick, curios, Nick,
come on, come on, I.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
Want to talk to you about the pyramids and the aliens.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
Please also come on, is also like Nick, We understand,
but we'll work it up.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
We get anyway. Those are my fun facts.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
The way you pursed your hands together like and Georgie
Tunney ten years. First, thank you so much for joining us,
Thanks for coming for the Mayhem, don't become a senior coach,
and until next week, be
Speaker 1 (28:44):
A great sport.
