HBO Max the beautiful people down at HBO Max because
season three of the HBO original series House of the Dragon,
which premiere is Monday on the n HBO Max. We're
getting around them and we are giving you guys a
shot at winning ten k. All you gotta do is
sacrifice something you love and let us set it on fire.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
Willem Woody. Trial by Fire.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Season three of the HBO original series House of the Dragon,
premieres Monday on HBO Max.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
So we kind of want you guys to compete here
against each other.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Sorry, before we go on, I don't normally have a
crack at Mark the Man Daniel's openers, but I feel
like we could have gone for a more intimidating voice
than analyse there the Trial by Fire a bit. I
mean it did, really, really really didn't.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
I sound scary and daunting and not at all, not
at all the Dragon, not at all.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
He's very bubbly, He's had a very bubbly to.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Put a very intense voice, on Mark told me to
do that anyway.
Speaker 4 (01:30):
Please continue.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
Okay, well we'll update that for tomorrow trial update that.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
That's all right, we can change that like Elma was
doing it. Guys, we're trying to set some stuff on
fire and sacrifice.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
It's meant to be hectic, and we're trying to reflect
that will. We're trying to reflect that. So you guys
are going to be competing. The person who offers us
the most sentimental item to them will be chosen by us.
And then we're not talking metaphorically. We will literally be
(02:06):
lighting that thing on fire. We've got the permits analyse,
We've got the permits, got the permits, we've got the
fire brigade. They're going to be They're all sorted right.
We will light it on flamethrower at all. These can't
confirm nor can deny.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
Amazing. I think there's a I think there's a specialty
pyrotechnics company which has been organized. But I will be
getting on the thrower. I'm going to be getting on
the flame thrower.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
I'm going to be getting on the tools. I don't
think pretty excited about it. I want to ask you
what would be your like just to just to let people,
you know, see what kind of item they could be offering.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
It's thirteen one oh sixty five.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
By the way, if you want to offer us an
item off the bat, something that's very sentimental to you
that we can light on fire, what would you offer,
because again you've got to think what's going to win
the competition, So it's going to be very important to you.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
An emotional connection, yes, not not nothing organic like no
pets or you know, no, no, you know what I mean.
I think it's a taxidermied old pet. I think I
think thumbs. I think thumbs might be a look thing
I don't reckon. Yeah, that's fish. That's good.
Speaker 5 (03:07):
Good.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
But having this brainstorm I said, I said no pets.
You didn't need to take it anyway. Look, well you
know me, and the thing is about this as well.
It's actually not about what's objectively sentimental to you. So
you have to sell this to us. Yes, why do
(03:28):
you care about it? From your perspective? Why does it
matter to you? So for me it would probably be
there'd probably be a vinyl, a couple of records of mine,
which I love dearly, and I would be very sad
to see burn now for anyone else, they'd be like,
who cares, it's just a little bit of wax, don't care.
It's one song, but you could buy another one as well.
No you can't, No, no, no you can't. I got this,
(03:50):
I got this. I've got a twelve inch single press
edition of Bronski beats small Town Boy, which is worth
a lot of money. I love that great song. By
the way, look it up anyone who's interested. That would
kill me, That would kill me. It's a great song.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
So they we've talked enough about it is a love's
a great song. Get it on CD from Ireland anyway,
it doesn't matter too much.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
Thirteen one oh six five is the number. That's that's
kind of the area we're talking about.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
What's really sentimental to you that you are willing to
let us burn?
Speaker 3 (04:23):
We're doing them now, we're going now, okay, we got
lok here luki.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
You've got something sentimental that you'd be willing for us
to burn like a dragon?
Speaker 6 (04:32):
Yes I do.
Speaker 7 (04:34):
It is an eighteenth birthday Stein class like a like
a judge and eighteen.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
Okay, who gave it to you? Who gave it to
my uncle?
Speaker 8 (04:45):
Eighteen?
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Once is your uncle?
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Still with us just doesn't sound my uncle still with
I think I think if the uncle had passed all
of a sudden questions sentiment, I.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Think if he passed these up next thirteen one O
six five and then the comps open clearly. Luke, by
the way, didn't make me feel it didn't make.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
Me care want to hear the emotion. Glass bit boring
to burn too?
Speaker 3 (05:07):
What is that fact? What would you sacrifice? The person
that we choose goes away with ten thousand dollars. I've
got both my daughter's umbilical cords in little glass containers
that I wear around my neck. Told you a few
times to say that publicly. Let's go to Lurk. I
reckon on it looks it looks already gone in with
his with his uncle.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Let's go to Kelly here, Kelly, what sentimental item would
you like to offer us to put into the dragon fire?
Speaker 7 (05:38):
Okay?
Speaker 6 (05:39):
I am going to offer you my diaries, the handwritten, yes, handwritten,
full of teenage angst all my love losses, probably some
diad poetry in there as well from my teenage years.
And I'll even wrap it in my wedding dress.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
WHOA okay, Kelly? So are you still with the person
you married?
Speaker 6 (06:01):
I really am, and I love the dress. And I
even texted him and I said, what do you think
of that if I wrapped my diaries in the wedding dress?
And all he said was blimey, blimy.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Kelly Off definitely in the lead. And again I suppose
part of this woods is also the salesmanship, because no doubt,
I don't know whether Kelly actually has been married, but
probably not going to check to a full background check either,
So like it's kind of it's kind of a bit
of the part of the craft. Absolutely, wrapping your teenage
diaries in your wedding dress, that's just good salesmanship. Fine,
(06:35):
now she's in the lead. It's good comba. Absolutely shues.
Let's got a Nikki here.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
Let's say, if Nicky can beat that, Nicky, what sentimental
item for ten thousand dollars?
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Are you willing to let us burn.
Speaker 6 (06:47):
My son's jumped suit when he went to the Olympics
in two thousand?
Speaker 3 (06:53):
Sorry? Sorry, your son went to the Olympics. Yes, as
in he.
Speaker 7 (06:56):
Competed in two thousands, so it's like twenty six years old.
I haven't told him that. I give it up.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Ye, Nicki, Nikki, who's your son?
Speaker 5 (07:05):
Is he?
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Is he Steve Hooker?
Speaker 6 (07:08):
No?
Speaker 7 (07:11):
No, who's so sorry?
Speaker 3 (07:16):
Did he did he? Did he compete the Olympic Games
in Sydney?
Speaker 7 (07:19):
No he didn't.
Speaker 6 (07:20):
But I had him a three months premature, so he
was lucky to.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
Sorry, sorry, sorry, Nikki.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
You're saying that you took your baby to the Olympics
and you have the jumpsuit totally unrelated to the games.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
It's the ones it's the ones Son War. It's an
Olympic theme, baby Onesie, not Steve Hooker. Good on your Nikkia.
That was awesome. Steve Hooker's poles you grand Hackett's where
we were at? Right? That's what I did. Sound like
(07:58):
he was an athlete. That was no doubt about that.
We had a winner from day around there, Patrick Johnson, Kelly,
it's a son, Kelly.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
Oh Hi, what would you like to offer us to
put into the flames?
Speaker 3 (08:15):
For ten thousand dollars?
Speaker 9 (08:17):
I want to put up my engagement ring.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
Whoo, what's it worth? What's it worth? Kelly? And what's
it worth to you?
Speaker 9 (08:24):
So I'm not I'm no longer with him, but we
were together for thirteen years. This was a pretty traumatic
relationship which I ended, but I think it would just
be good to get some closure. I also paid for
the ring, so how even.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
Sorry to make this a business decision. How much did
you pay for that engagement ring?
Speaker 9 (08:44):
Six thousand?
Speaker 3 (08:47):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Yeah, okay, So it's probably still a good deal for you,
given that we'd give you ten thousand dollars if we.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
Get in the fire. So you can't in that business.
I'm sorry. I wasn't even going there. Just take emotion
out of it. Well, there you go. You were trade
into into the spreadsheet there. Yeah, good for you, Thank you,
thank you. I think Kelly's still on the loop. Kelly won,
You're still in the lead. The teenage diary is wrapped
in the wedding dress. There's something sick about it. There
is something a little bit.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
And also a great burning the diaries with the paper
would absolutely go.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
Catch fire, get a great spectacle. Kelly. You are currently
in the lead, and Kelly well done. So it's up
to you guys. Now we're back with that again tomorrow.
You have to try and knock Kelly off as the
person who will sacrifice something there they love for ten
thousand dollars. It's all thanks to season three of the
(09:40):
HBO original series House of the Dragon, which premier is
Monday on the on HBO Max eight days away.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Also from my romantic dinner with my wife Mim it's
incredibly exciting. Look, we've got two kids, we're married. Sometimes
the spark can go a little bit right. So we've
had the idea to go to this romantic dinner in
character we will meet for the first time. We will
have a first daid. It's going to be hot, it's
going to be steamy. I couldn't be more excited.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
Has she given you an inkling as to what she's doing?
By the way, No, we're.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
Keeping it totally away from each other. Apart from the
fact that I'm talking about on national radio. Well, I'm
I'm going to be totally surprised by who she rocks
up to the dinner, as it's just I really am
shaking with excitement and thank you so much to everyone.
Yesterday so many people caught up with some great suggestions
as to the sexiest character that I could rock up
(10:30):
to the dinner. As I do have audio of that,
which I'm going to play very very We've got that. Okay,
play with you here's some phenomenal suggestions.
Speaker 6 (10:38):
Yesterday, I think you should be a siremon.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
I do like that.
Speaker 7 (10:46):
Too much of the Witcher Henry cavill O, my.
Speaker 8 (10:50):
God player.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
A hockey player. Okay, so mel would I roll a
blade down there? Because?
Speaker 1 (11:02):
Okay, so I had a few people come up to
me today. It's not often that you you do something
on the show where people feel comfortable walking up to
you on the street. But a lot of people were saying,
do the hockey player.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
It's very in vogue at the moment. Is it a
hot hockey player? He did rivalry thing so so again,
off campus hockey players couldn't be hot to right now.
So sick of hearing about this, but also like you
can be angry about it or just lean in and
maybe I could play the caroll. Importantly, though, Mim, your
wife is watching these shows, both shows, both shows, both shows.
(11:37):
She loved both shows.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
I think she would be should be blown away by
a little wing attack. I'm not sure if that's a
position in ice hockey, but that's a network.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
Don't wear a network, work up with a.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
W a on just I think i'd rock up with
maybe the helmet in my hands, the stick in my hands.
I'd cloak that. There's all sorts of things. But look,
that's just one suggestion.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
You were suggesting rollerblading in as well. Well, I think
that's like based on my knowledge of mighty ducks. The
mighty ducks they used to rollerblate everywhere, wlade everywhere. Do
they roll a blading off campus? And the ice hockey
players sex? That's so cool. It might be a chance
for you to make those roller bodes of yours the
text production. Yeahades that you wore once and then decided
(12:21):
you couldn't roll a blade. They were expensive. They were expensive.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
Okay, over to you guys, because I'm I think I
need to make a decisions.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
Okay, I think we lock it in. Okay, wow, okay,
all right, where are you leaning? You're the ice hockey
right you come through by the way. For nine thirteen
one five, this person said he should go on his
date in one of those big inflatable dinosaur costumes.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
And don't get me wrong, there's so much temptation there
for me, Like I always like making my wife laugh.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
Yeah, because I mean if you go as Captain Feathersword,
I mean that's.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
It's all time and she'll laugh, but like you, I
really like it's going to be very hard for the
two of us to hold back laugh, but I really
want her.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
Maybe there'll be some some giggles. I was gonna say,
I don't want to wagh of the righteous finger at you.
But generally speaking yes, generally speaking yes, And I know
I'm stereotyping here, but men trying to be sexy is
anti is not sexy. But generally speaking, I get that.
But here's the thing. When I rock up as a
sexy character.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
And by the way, thirteen one oh sixty five is
our number out of the suggestions, like, I really want
to lock one in. What's your favorite? We had Fireman,
we had go as Henry Cavill from The Witcher. We've
got the ice hockey player yeap, who's your favorite?
Speaker 3 (13:37):
Docta. We threw that around doctor an.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
Alice is obviously shooting hard for vampire yep as well.
What's your favorite? I'm thirteen one oh sixty five. Please
let me know, Joe, what's up.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
If we do lock in a favorite? Can you give
us like a bit of a taste. Absolutely, obviously I
want to lock in a favorite, and I just want
to get this with you. Now we're going to have
to see like a bit of the costume, absolutely full
tend right, I'm happy to It might even need to
be like a film yourself walking into the restaurant, sort
of a setup.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
No, I'm not going to film anything on the night,
but just willing to do your hand. I'm willing to
do a radio show.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
As the character. I don't know if anyone wants that
full two hours, full two hours. I'll bring the stick in.
I'll bring the stick in.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
If it's we'll take it if it's hockey.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
Okay, but yes, I'm willing to do that. But I
first for two nine thirteen one sixty five. You can
text us which character you would like wood you to
go to his role play datas or you can call us.
That's a strange question. I want to make sure texts
come through.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
Would a phenomenal I just want to make sure I
pick the right character to be sexy and desirable. I
think so far in the lead it's ice hockey player
fresh from training.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
Okay, can I just on that point. Yeah, You've got
a wonderful text here that's come through from a woman
called Claire. Claire. Thanks for your text. Oh four two
nine thirteen one six five. If you want to send
us a text, she said, make sure if you pick
a character like the jock, you pick a character who's
also got sexy stories too, because no one wants a
(15:01):
boring jock with no chat. So maybe she's a very
good shout from Claire. You can't rock up, be the
ice hockey player and be monosyllabic, because there's obviously been
poetic license from these hot sticks shows that we're watching
on TV where they're like, oh, these guys are also
emotionally intelligent. You'd have to have that string to you.
But I'd need some depth.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
And again, I don't want to totally hijight the radio show,
but maybe tomorrow next week we start building the character
and his backstory and what are his emotional touch points.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
But let's go to Trudy here. What are his weaknesses?
What it's totally what are what are his desires? What
are his ambitions? Yeah? Yeah, what's his relationship like with
his mum?
Speaker 1 (15:38):
Let's go to Trudy here on thirteen one oh six five. Trudy,
there's a there's a suggestion of a character that you
like the most.
Speaker 7 (15:48):
Yes, Well, if you're going to go with Vampire, and
I think that you should. Then then I would go
with Damon from the Vampire Diaries and just for hear
me out here me out yeah, well yeah, yeah, go on.
He's he is sexy, he has a backstory, and he's
in romantic so you like all of it all in
one interesting.
Speaker 3 (16:07):
What would I wear if I sorry, what's the guy's
name again? Damon? Where?
Speaker 7 (16:13):
Oh well, we just really get dressed up with much.
I need to check it out. So it's just like
usually like like a leaven jacket, a black shirt.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
I'm saying photos now, Yeah, he's he's he's sexy.
Speaker 7 (16:28):
It's not going to cost you much obviously.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
Okay, And I'm being black and he's an all black
sort of a where Johnny Cash. That could be hot.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
I'm just looking at his body now, that's that's extraordinary.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
Thanks. I think Vampire is still sexy.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
I like the tension as well, of like desiring my
wife but also wanting to suck her blood.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
I think that's an interesting thing to play with. I'm
not going to anyone's going.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
To Lauren here on Lauren, which suggestion do you like
the most?
Speaker 9 (16:57):
Like, look, guys, I'm going to have to say it too,
as you know, also a mum that would love the.
Speaker 10 (17:02):
Date night vampire.
Speaker 7 (17:04):
Wow wow, And that's that's giving.
Speaker 6 (17:08):
That is given sexy us.
Speaker 5 (17:10):
You could twilight.
Speaker 6 (17:11):
You could be a bit mysterious and just across the
table for a bit.
Speaker 7 (17:15):
You know.
Speaker 3 (17:16):
Yeah, okay, do you know it's also cool with Lauren.
I don't know if this is because I think this
is a cool part about vampires as well that maybe
makes them a little bit more interesting. Is it because
they're not They're immortal, They've often been alive for hundreds
of years. Stories, the stories, the character, that wisdom. Yeah,
the things that I don't do very unsexy, but okay, yeah,
just you know, you know, I remember when I was
(17:38):
dating Victoria the Great, you know, like, you know, you
know you've got options.
Speaker 1 (17:42):
They're very smelly face. Oh you know you just chuck
it in there. Well I would know because I live.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
Yeah, well you were there, you know, I was at
the Battle of Hastings. Analyst is dying to say something.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
They also kind of eat onions.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
That works. That's an amazing tie in. That's great. And garlic, right,
they kin'd of garlic. I'm a vampire. The garlic b
it's definitely gallic. I don't know if it's they're also
gluten for.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
You, Steve here, I'm Steve, what character do you think
I should be doing this roleplay dinner with my wife?
Speaker 8 (18:17):
Definitely the hockey player, all right. And with regards to
going in on skate so you can actually get inline
hockey skates, they're exactly the same as the ice skates,
but they've got the weird.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
Steve, I think it's I think that rolled the idea
of rollerbuating into a great idea. But I'm just alys
currently if I'm wrong, and please any of the girls,
keet I wrong. I cannot think of a bigger egg
than a guy taking off his roller blades in the
foyer of a restaurant and then trying to cloak them
as he puts his sneakers on, or like as you're leaving,
(18:53):
going hang on a second, got to get my skates
and slinging them over his shoulder.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
I was really hoping you wouldn't highlight it, and what
he would be like, yeah, great, No.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
It's a trap. It's a trap. Don't fall for the
protect you is this hot?
Speaker 5 (19:04):
Though?
Speaker 1 (19:04):
If I go like at the end of the dinner, like, Hey,
do you have a lift home?
Speaker 3 (19:08):
Jop me to piggyback your home on my bloke. I'll
take the laughter. Iss, No, that's not sexy. I just
some really quick text fortune nine thirteen one and six.
We've got John snow or Jamie Lanister has been one
that's come in. James Bond is coming in a lot
Woody from toy story was a surprise one that Danny said,
magic Mike, which is obviously a favorite. And another really
(19:31):
good point here from Leanne. She said, be careful going
as a doctor or a fireman because there might be
an emergency in the restaurant. Wow. And if you're banding
around doctor and someone actually chokes, they might actually go.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
And then yes, I might get confused and I'm method,
and then I'll try and help someone, and that's a
whole lawsuit.
Speaker 3 (19:49):
Let's go to Kelly here. I know that I'm thirteen
one o six five Kelly. We're going to finish with you.
Who should I play at this role play dinner with
my wife?
Speaker 5 (19:58):
Oh, definitely a hockey player. Walk in with your walk
in with your head gear on and rip it off
and then you could have a week or something and
just put your hair in the air and one of
those fake chests things to make you look like.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
You've got a whoa, Kelly, sounds like you need to
have a cold bath as well. All right talking about this,
it's air in the air, thing on the chest.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
She able to get the words. Actually so excited. I
think it's vampire ice hockey player.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
I'm sorry. We have yeah, tomorrow, tomorrow, more chat there. Yeah,
Aerobic Manners is in the studio here he is. Grob
Wood said he saw you at the Comedy Festival recently.
Speaker 4 (20:45):
We had a good hang at Comedy Repeat.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
You said you're in a very sober stage.
Speaker 4 (20:49):
You've been to see Ellis show?
Speaker 3 (20:51):
Yes, I had, yes, And then I can in a good.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
Chat what around.
Speaker 10 (20:59):
I can see why this sh the reason.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
I'm being coiled, the reason I'm being coys because I
went to Pea show a couple of drinks before that,
all responsibly, of course, and then we went somewhere else
and had a few more drinks, and then we came
to Comedy Republic and I feel like I came in
pretty hot.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
Oh you did?
Speaker 10 (21:17):
Yeah, yeah, and I'm a very tall like for me
like also looming there was a sense of looming line.
Speaker 4 (21:23):
I was just close to you.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
Because I'm pretty sure it was one of those situations
where you were in a conversation with a group of
people and I wasn't thinking of manners, saw.
Speaker 10 (21:35):
You and you were riding Pete's wave. You were in
his wake. So he's come in. Whatever I was doing,
I don't quite remember. Yeah, I was probably talking, but
conversation with so that I lit up his you know,
my best mates come in. And then he kind of
moved past, and then whoosh, in you can and I
came hard and I'm a fan of you, and I
(21:56):
like like like I'm a child and you're an excitable labrador.
Speaker 3 (22:01):
What was the opening exchange?
Speaker 4 (22:02):
It was just high but it.
Speaker 10 (22:03):
Was like ah, and then immediately into Pete was saying
this in the jungle and.
Speaker 3 (22:12):
You went back to the story. Soever. It's actually one
of my favorite stories, and that's worth saying. I love
this story.
Speaker 4 (22:25):
I needed to leave the room.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
I think it's it's it's one of my favorite best
I don't understand. I don't want to oversell this. I
don't want to undersell it either.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
It's my favorite story from media Away and Jumping. If
I get a date I'm not jumping jump it's weird.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
If you jump in. It's weird if you jump in.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
So basically, Pete Hellier, who I'm friends with and was
in the Jungle with Jungle what you'm celebrity.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
We double a alright, sall the story.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
It's like it's like you planned that digging spike.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
Okay, So and told me that at the very start
the birth of Rove and you creating a show with
Pete Heller and Kren Grand that was the three and
Dave Callen and Dave Callen those those were the four ogs.
You were doing that show on Channel thirty one.
Speaker 4 (23:24):
Well, yes, we were on thirty one.
Speaker 10 (23:25):
We've gone to Channel nine and we did our first
year on a proper network, very exciting, had a wonderful time.
Speaker 3 (23:31):
Okay, they said see you later.
Speaker 4 (23:33):
Yes, they said fantastic, We love what you do.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
Now get out.
Speaker 4 (23:35):
Wow.
Speaker 10 (23:36):
And then it was Channel nine who said we don't
want the show, yes, but we do want you.
Speaker 4 (23:43):
Will you just stay and.
Speaker 3 (23:45):
I'll fill in some dotsy that you won't like.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
They offered big money, life changing money in a cutthroat
industry where so many things don't work, and when they
came to you and said they just wanted you.
Speaker 4 (23:56):
You said, well, this is your story.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
You said, well quite.
Speaker 10 (24:02):
Clearly, I said no. I said, if you don't want
the show, then I don't want to be here. I
don't want to just be doing something by myself and
that's not this show and not without my mates. So
I would rather just go, thanks very much and leave
it at that. And they did say, well what are
you going to do? And I said, well, I'll just
go back to doing stand up. I guess I just
(24:24):
want to do something that I'm proud of, and staying
here by myself to be warehouse door or then thrust
into a game show that I don't want to do
is not something I would be proud of. And from
that first season alone, at the next year's Logis, I
was nominated for Best New Talent and the show was nominated.
Speaker 4 (24:43):
For Best Light Entertainment Program, so we did pretty well.
Speaker 10 (24:46):
They just didn't get it, and so I went, well,
if you don't get it, then then I will leave.
It's easy to look at it now and go what
an amazing decision. But there's an alternate reality where there's
another Row who's like he's a footnote and a weird
trivia question.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
He's doing celebrity splash down.
Speaker 2 (25:03):
He's in the jungle.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
Oh that's great. Well, we actually we're going to get
tat pass. We're going to get task passed out. But
I don't think we've had a chance of speaking about
this because you know, Woods and I obviously grew up
at a time where Rove Live was like in that
era of television where if you got to school the
next day and you hadn't watched the show, you were irrelevant,
which is a wild time. Yeah, to do it, because
(25:32):
that just for kids listening now, like sure that exists
for a streaming show that's on ABO or it's still.
Speaker 10 (25:39):
It's dilute this a lot. Yeah, it's we were forty
weeks of the year. We were a live show, so
very very content, So we were on all year. We
don only have a small breakover summer and that was
about it for maybe six weeks. Otherwise we were around
all the time. And we did that for ten years
before I moved to the States. So that's a long
(26:00):
time to be part of people's life. But the difference
being now, like firstly, you wouldn't get that amount of time.
You get maybe six weeks if you're lucky, and for
most people if they're really watching it, like I know
people who with Taskmaster are like, I'll wait till episode eight,
then I'll binge it all and then I'll catch up
(26:22):
for the final two. Like the idea of something being
spread out and integrated into your life and woven into
the fabric of your day to day is almost impossible.
You could say, oh, we're all talking about I don't know,
heated rivalry or something that it's like yeah, for the
weekend that everybody binged every episode and then it's like,
now what, it's so true. So the idea of that,
(26:45):
I can't think of a global event now, like even
I think about the World Cups on right even that
like I caught the Australian game on the recaps because
I couldn't get down to watch it. I can't think
of anything on TV now but for like a global
disaster where you could look at the US.
Speaker 3 (26:59):
Like it's as trying to suck you in, but like you,
I can't imagine a world now where like every house
if you look down the street and you could put
a light on all the ones that were watching Row
of Live at the same time, and like not just kids,
like the whole family. My dad would be like, oh
that's a great bit, like you know what, and we'd
be there watching it and we.
Speaker 10 (27:19):
Would literally put a camera on a suburb and say
if you're.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
Got the PM, so well that moment with the PM.
Speaker 3 (27:35):
I've actually just been on the YouTube channel mate, Like
it's the clip that I stopped on just before, just
to give people an idea of how big this show was.
Was this I'm looking at this clip because like I
vaguely remember this. It was a segment called My Charader,
Yes right, and yes charades, just charades, but it was
with Charlie's Angels.
Speaker 4 (27:51):
Yeah, so Cameron Diaz.
Speaker 3 (27:53):
Cameron Diaz, Barrymore, Lucy Lou playing charades drunk drunk.
Speaker 4 (27:58):
They were drunk really oh.
Speaker 3 (28:01):
Yeah, on Australian TV at nine o'clock on.
Speaker 4 (28:05):
What night we would have been on a Wednesday.
Speaker 3 (28:07):
Wednesday night.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
I reckon can tell that Cameron's had a few by
the interaction she has with Pete Hell at the start,
I think she licks him on the cheek.
Speaker 4 (28:13):
Yes, she's very flirty with him.
Speaker 10 (28:15):
Yes, and they're doing it in heels and form where
it's amazing amazing.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
I just like looking at that, I'm because that just
doesn't exist. Maybe that happens on Jimmy fallon now, maybe
he gets one person to come and do something a
bit silly. You have all three of them in the
room drunk playing charades.
Speaker 10 (28:30):
Yeah, just doing charade, and we put we put hair
gel in the mix camera as a reference to something
about Mary and by absolute sheer good fortune. It ends
up on her turn with her performing amazing to Pete.
She does mime hair gel, but does it as a
(28:51):
you know, I'm squeezing something into my hand.
Speaker 4 (28:53):
Who am I to tell.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
Cameron wonderful.
Speaker 3 (28:58):
Charade, a bit of feedback when the cameras note.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
For next time.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
But yeah, we had a bit that we did because
we were alive. We could say to people.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
Actually live right.
Speaker 10 (29:09):
We were one, which was also part of the fun.
Speaker 4 (29:13):
We did a lot about it with Pete last night.
Speaker 10 (29:15):
We caught up with him for dinner and we're like
in our first year at Channel nine, he wrote a
sketch based around the guy who's the guy who comes
up with dancers everything from the nutbush to the wine
that werk, Like who comes up with those? So he
created a character he creates a dance. He creates a
new dance that he calls the.
Speaker 4 (29:35):
Et cetera, et cetera.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
It was you.
Speaker 10 (29:37):
Stick your two arms out wide like you're an aeroplane,
and then just squat from one leg to the next.
At the end, he goes to test it in a nightclub.
It's always a very nervous moment for him, and it
takes off and it's the new big dance, brilliant. Between
one show and the next a week of television, we
had people sending us footage of them doing the dance
in nightclubes.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
So to do that you would have to take.
Speaker 10 (29:59):
A literal video camera male a tape to us, and
then we put them on air, which then made more
people do it. Then people were sending us footage of
them being kicked out of nightclubs for doing it. Nightclubs
got in touch with us saying, our nightclub has said
that we will be an etcetera, etcetera safe haven where
(30:19):
if people want to come and do the dance, they
will come and do the dance without being kicked out
or getting in.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
Trouble for it.
Speaker 4 (30:27):
And this went on for like weeks, and this thing
went viral before nineteen ninety nine.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
Wow. Wow, that is an incredible concept that something can
go viral before.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
And that was and also that wasn't the intent.
Speaker 3 (30:41):
It was just here's a funny bit.
Speaker 10 (30:42):
But once people took the ball and ran with it,
we were like, well we'll show it and then if
anyone else has got any footage send it in.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
Yeah bloody.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
Oh again you just get blown away by who's on
the couch sitting next to Pete Covin.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
So we had Will Ferrell and John c Ryley.
Speaker 10 (30:57):
Oh yeah, yeah, I had one of I'm one of
the few, rare few who have interviewed Beyonce.
Speaker 4 (31:04):
She doesn't do interviews anymore.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
And you gave her a set of trackie decks.
Speaker 10 (31:07):
Yeah, yeah, because I did an interview with Destiny's Child
where I had said to them, you all look so glamorous,
but when you're at home just sitting around in TRACKI
dacks and they went, what are trackie dacks? So that
when they came to Australia on their tour, I gave
them I've been touring a show at the moment, which
is still to go in Darwin. If anyone knows anyone
(31:30):
in Darwin, and it's looking back at the time doing
the talk show, and the Will Ferrell and John c
Riley who turned up. I didn't know what they were doing.
I was told, the boys have an idea. They don't
want you to know what it is. It may or
may not involve a costume, and it may or may not.
Speaker 4 (31:46):
Involve a prop. That's all I was told.
Speaker 10 (31:48):
And then what had transpired was they got in touch
with the producers and they said, who else's books for
the show that night? They were told Australian gold medal
winner for pole vault at the Olympic, Steve Hooker, So
they went, oh, you know what would be funny is
we should also dress as Olympic pole vaulters, and then
turn up being absolutely furious that Rogue would dare book
another pole vaulter on the show. As I said, ladies
and gentlemen, please welcome the stars of Step Brothers, Will
(32:10):
Ferrell and John c Riley.
Speaker 3 (32:11):
I just see a.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
Pole vault and legit. I don't even know where we
got the pov off from.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
And we've got to get we've got to get out
of here. But before we do it, very quickly, you're
on Task Master that tonight, seven thirty Channel ten. Yes,
episode seven.
Speaker 4 (32:23):
Yes, you can play Paramount whoever you want to watch it.
But this is my favorite episode of the season.
Speaker 3 (32:28):
Okay, great.
Speaker 4 (32:28):
There are two things you will see tonight.
Speaker 10 (32:30):
One, Celia Pacuola creates the most amazing piece of cinema
with only ten minutes to prepare. My teammate Anissa and
Andala pulls a lie on me that I did not
know was a lie until the episode went to air.
When you watch it unfold in real time as I
explain what's happening, it's quite incredible. I highly recommend if
(32:50):
you haven't been watching tonight's episode to get on.
Speaker 3 (32:52):
You can always catch up. As Rove said at ten,
play as well, it's an incredible cast with Robe, Brett Blake,
and Issa and Andala, Celia and Joel Creasy as well.
Awesome fun cast, very fun cast. It's been great having
you in here. Thanks for sharing. It's been awesome. It's
been so good. It's so good. You listen to Will
and thanks for kids. That's I Meet the Ball. It
(33:17):
takes take us to Supergirl for the Hottest take thirteen
one and six five, or you can textas oh for
two nine thirteen one O six five if you have
a hot take, Woodrow, I'm going to kick things off here.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
You said this is your hottest take yet, so maybe
we should save yours.
Speaker 3 (33:33):
No, no, no, I've got a few, a few first one. Yeah,
people who are super early should be as heavily chastised
as people who are super late. Why because they haven't
I meet the ball.
Speaker 1 (33:47):
Because they haven't actually held up they haven't been selfish
and held up anyone.
Speaker 3 (33:51):
They've been early to save the person who then is
you make people feel uncomfortable when you're too early. It's like,
I'm not ready for you. We don't ready. If you're late,
you don't know I was there early. You can can
sense it, you can you can sense it. They're here,
They're already here. I wasn't ready for them. I'm just
saying that. This is why it's a take. This is
why it's a hot takes. It's wrong because it's wrong.
(34:12):
I've got a lukewarm take. This might it's wrong because
this might get a rise out of a few people
on that team.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
No one actually likes mucha you're all just lying to
follow a fad, like you don't you're.
Speaker 3 (34:28):
Lying and you know you're lying.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
It's the whole thing to be seen to be drinking
mucha But you all get through it, so you're part.
Speaker 3 (34:34):
Of the gang. There you go, but you don't actually
like it, you know you don't, and stop lying to yourself.
But you don't have a little bit of honey. It's
just like heaven in a cup only is good. That's
a hot take. Look you've got that, you've got it.
(34:55):
She's on the brother, look at it, and I.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
Got you only put the honey in there because it
tastes like crap bury.
Speaker 3 (35:05):
Would you just have hot chocolate in just water?
Speaker 5 (35:08):
What?
Speaker 3 (35:09):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (35:09):
Absolutely, yeah, very good though
