You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Fox Sports Radio Hour three,
The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon,
where we just watch the forty Niners just pull away
from the Rams four to nine. A great defensive effort
(00:44):
by the forty Niners, an incredible run and catch by
Deebo Samuel that play broke open the game. Deebo six
for one fifteen a touchdown. Matthew Stafford throws a pick
six that clinches the game for the Niners. The Niners
win it one d four to nine over the Rams. Jimmy,
now here, we are at the quarter pole right, because
(01:06):
it's quarter pole right as you said, is it's quarter
pole right the quarter pole. We're at the quarter pole.
Were the one quarter pole with the three quarters pole.
We're at the half of the quarter pole, the one
quarter quarter pole, quarter pounder, with quarter pole, with the
quarter pole, quarter pounder. We played four games, We played
four weeks, just put nearly a quarter of the season.
(01:28):
We've seen teams now for a little bit. And I'll
tell you this following this week. If I had to
give you fight to say, Okay, what's your NFC power rankings?
In the top? Okay, just not all the way through,
because I really want to put the Jets in the
all we can do the doing Okay, Jets number one,
(01:51):
because after that win Jets, Jets, Jets, Jets, Jets. Just
like you know, not to derail this bite that you
brought up the NC. I love watching Patrick Mahomes and
Andy Reid just waving at everybody. That was fun. That
was fun. You know, it was more fun. Zack Zack
Zack Zack Zax. Going back to before the season, it
was all gonna blow up because Diyree Gill wasn't there.
(02:13):
Oh my god, it's terrible. He's almost as good as
Zach Wilson. Could I rename our fantasy team in that
expert league as Zach Attack? Oh yeah, ready, we wait,
what's our No, we have a good record in that one,
three and one. Yeah, now keep Flacco is elite for
a little while. We just had a big blown Then
(02:34):
we need to down tonight when we need to change.
Then we can go to Zacattack or Spider Man's Spider Man,
this is my n uh really took a took a
left turn there it is. It is so exciting that
the Jets one. But we'll have more on that game
coming up. But if I had to look at the
NFC tonight right and say, okay, who are the top
(02:56):
three teams in the NFC after after four weeks? Remember
I told you Philadelphia was going to the NFC Championship
game before the season started. Philadelphia four and oh they're
at the top. Their offense is really good. Are they
on top because of their record or because you really
believe in there? I believed in them when they didn't
believe himself the question them before the Eagles believed in
(03:18):
Jalen Hurts and they still don't believe in the guide.
But I told you they were going to be good.
They're this good. I didn't think they'd be this good
this fast. I thought they would take a little bit
of time for them to gel. But you know when
week one Jalen Hurt says that a j A brat
hamm gonna throw the ball to you. Well just wait, wait,
just wait, wait, wait a little bit on that. Wait.
(03:40):
Are the Philadelphia is number one? Their four? And oh
it was a it was a I actually was really
impressed with them on Sunday. They've had the big pick
six that got him down early and they gutted one
out right and it wasn't pretty that one, right, But
they're scoring a lot. Yeah, well that's the new thing.
(04:00):
They only had to play thirty minutes the first three weeks.
Week four, Okay, we gotta play more than the Okay,
that's fine, that's fine. So Eagles are number one, number
two because they right now look like the team they
were a year ago. Right, And I don't mean the Niners.
(04:20):
I mean the Niners are the second best team, Like
if I said number two and I'm talking about the Bears,
So the Niner. So sorry, buddy, what are you doing
from yesterday's game? They're dead. They got it right where
they want. Like, if you don't want to do the game,
defer to another crew. Okay, So the Niners are close
to being the team they were last year when they
(04:42):
were sneakily dominant because the way they name marched through
the season. They were a good team, but nobody really
understood how good they were, how good their defense was,
the weapons with debot and and killed because you look
at Jimmy Garoppolo, who is the so the franchis and
you go, uh, it's Jimmy really that good? No, he's
(05:03):
not that good. How much you're gonna win when you
don't have an elite quarterback? And Toda, here's Jimmy Garoppolo
who has been to one Super Bowl and now been
to two NFC Championship games. And it was niptuck for
a long time getting out of the final couple of
minutes of the fourth quarter for the Niners to go
to the Super Bowl. So this this Niners team was
sneakily good last year and it was easy to dismiss
them this year. Well they're gotta they're gonna start trade Lance.
(05:26):
How long is it gonna be till they go to
Jimmy Garoppolo? This is just a mess. And the injury
happens to Tray Lance, and I feel awful for the
kid because who knows what his what his career is
gonna be like he mayn't even be a forty Niner.
His next snap may be in a different team because
if the if the Niners get back to being that
team again under Jimmy Garoppolo, guess what guess is gonna
be the quarterback next year in the year round. He'll
(05:47):
be a new two year deal for Garoppolo. They'll pay
him forty million dollars total, and they'll try to uh
trade off trade lance to a team looking for it
because he will have a lot of value to a
team because he hasn't really gotten a chance. But the
Niners are that team. They look like they're close to
being that team already. They look terrible lesson. I mean,
the defense was great, but that offense looked awful last
(06:08):
week against the Broncos. And the Broncos have one of
the top two defenses in the NFL. There that dominant
and Garoppolo looks look at man, right, well that's the
Raiders one week. I know, I know, but dude, it's
not great in Denver right now, I'm telling you it's not.
(06:29):
It's not great in Denver. It's not it's not great.
So not great, Bob, not great. But now the Niners
are have getting to Garoppolo as early as they have. Hey,
now we don't have to worry about getting through the
first month. When do we make the change to Garoppolo?
Is that going to hang over the team? No, the
injury forced them to go to Garoppolo. They had a
(06:51):
rough game last week, but that looked like the let's
get used to things game. All right, let's let's let's
get all the rustiness and everything else out, because tonight
the Niners looked just like they did peak Niners last year.
Not not this was they looked like peak Niners last
year tonight this is Week four. So yeah, I got
the Niners the second best team in the NFC right now. Yeah,
(07:13):
I could argue, well, I mean it would be arguing
for arguing sake at this point because Philly has been
uh that good in spurts. But there's situations. This one
this week against the Jaguars made me feel better. Now.
I was mad that Jaguars didn't, you know, cash in
because I thought the upset was going to be there,
(07:34):
and early on it was and then Trevor Lawrence Sudden
couldn't hold onto the football. Got to get that sticky grip,
Go get some gloves, but the forty Niners rounding back
into shape. Run game with Wilson is fine. Garoppolo another
week with the practice, uh practicing with the squad, and
George Kittle another week removed from being on the sideline,
(07:56):
so his presence is huge, Deebo Samuel to Ayuk still
trying to figure out how to best use Auk at
this point. Perhaps as big as play tonight was the
block that he threw towards the end of the debot
seven yard catch and run. But with Debo, we haven't
even seen all the gadget tree. Right, We've seen him
carry the ball a few times. Use check is going
(08:17):
to be a big, big value add for them as
a receiver and as a blocker. DJ how about you
check the power rankings and see where and the defense
has given up forty six points at this point, right,
They made Russell Wilson look like a rookie. They abused
that offensive line, which isn't hard at this point, but
(08:40):
you've got a dominant defense. Jimmy Garoppolo with Shanahan, say
what you will. People don't like him for a million reasons.
They win games together. It works works, the ball down
the middle, gadget tree as you need to get the
wide receivers involved, keep different looks and schemes at jim
(09:01):
They're gonna be there for the long haul, and Jimmy
Garoppol's gonna end up making sixteen million dollars this year,
and then they'll have that decision as you talked about,
where it's he's back to million dollars a year or
there about. It'll be a two year deal. It'll be
for between forty and fifty million dollars. It will be
all guaranteed. And that's how it's gonna work out, right,
because they're they're that good, the Niners team they are.
(09:23):
They were built great last year and all they were
missing this year was supposedly the quarterback and the take
them over. But last year a lot of it was
dismissed because of the way Deebo Samuel was used. How
sustainable is that, Well, it's different than banking on a
bunch of turnovers and special teams wizardry, you know, going
back to my Chicago Bears work of all those years
(09:45):
ago when they made the Super Bowl with love he Smith,
and it's like, oh, it's gonna be the same thing.
It's like the ball doesn't bounce your way the same
way the next year in your return. Man, as great
as he may be, isn't necessarily taking into the house
and he at all. And the way the game is now,
you'd never kick anywhere near devin Hester. But the point
being that you can't rely on that. You need to
have functionality elsewhere because you're you're not gonna be able
(10:08):
to bank on that with the forty nine. It's an
offensive playmaker. You can get the ball into his hand,
you can scheme the ball into his hands and watch
him make plays. That's what he did on that catch
and run tonight. Well thrown ball by Jimmy. As a
problem in that case, probably an interception going the other
way where we see him, or alignment diving to try
to stop a touchdown. Instead, Debo goes up, hands are strong,
(10:31):
snags it out of the air, breaks a couple of tackles,
and he's off to the races. And and the way
they're using Debo is gonna be Hey, okay, how about
a few less rushing attempts because we know you don't
like him. Okay, great, well, but when we get to
crunch time and it's winning time, proceeding or whatever else.
Guess who's gonna carry the ball ten times a game
will be bad. Yeah, you're not to the point where, okay,
(10:57):
three running attempts at most per week, But it's gonna
We're gonna lay off you early and then we'll give
it to you later. But that's how good this forty
Niners team is. And here's another shocker for you. If
I had to give you the team right behind the
forty Niners, i'd give you the Cowboys. Be it. You
gotta give them credit for doing what they've done so far.
They lose Dak Prescott and they find a way to refocus.
(11:20):
And you gotta give Mike McCarthy a lot of credit
for as much flak as he gets. The guy stinks
he's done. Uh, this could have been the Cowboys spiraling
out of control. But with a backup quarterback, the Cowboys
have gotten to their their way of play that they
needed to get to. We're gonna be run heavy, we're
gonna play great defense, and Cooper Russia is gonna make
plays kind of when he has to. They almost look
(11:42):
like the forty Niners a little bit, you know, because
Cooper Russian, Jimmy grew up. Both very similar in how
they're deployed, but they're gonna throw the football a bit.
They can lead drives when they have to. Cooper Rush
is undefeated. The Cowboys found their formula without Dak Prescott
and he's on his way back, maybe this week against
the Rams, maybe the week after that. But yeah, what
(12:04):
they've done is really impressive. So if you're telling me
the top three teams in the NFC right now, Philadelphia,
San Francisco and Dallas right there, Yeah the question Philadelphia,
San Francisco in Dallas right back at it. Yeah, I
mean with with Dallas, you know the defense is gonna
work because even in that opener against Tampa, they stiffened
up when they needed to. Tom Brady in that offense,
and we know they're not operating on on all levels,
(12:28):
which is why they're outside of the metal stand as
it's as it were here. For me, it's between Dallas
and a Green Bay team, maybe Minnesota. You could argue
in that game wasn't pretty in London, but it's w right.
You heard Paul Allen all across the network over the
last twenty four hours screaming like a lunatic after that
(12:49):
let's miss the double doink revisited, so I might put
the vikings there. Defensively, they really need to tighten up,
but I can argue them in with Dallas still being
somewhat limited offensively. Yeah, but European yards we know from
the Northwestern and they don't trans translate. I have to
I'm sorry, I have to eliminate the Vikings from this discussion.
(13:11):
I gotta say, I'm really interested to watch the Cowboys
this week because they've got the National game on Fox
against the Rams, and if Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard,
who was very little used this last week, if two
of them could establish the run game against the Rams,
Cooper rush out dueling Matthew Stafford. I mean because right now,
Jared Goff greater than Matthew Stafford. Yeah, Gino Smith greater
(13:33):
than all of them. Yeah, Unfortunately Jared Goff can't play defense. Otherwise,
maybe they'd have something in Detroit, Twitter and out about
a Fresca Mike and swallow up thing with that. Eagles Niners,
Cowboys best three teams in the end, I'm thinking of
Wilburg Montgomery and Harold Carmichael right now. Oh yeah, Keith
crap flee. Sure sure, be sure to catch live editions
(13:54):
of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harman weekdays at
ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
and the I Heart Radio Whip Fox Sports Radio The
Jason Smith Show with My big friend Mike Harmon. Did
the Giants quit? Uh? Yeah, it looks like the Padres
really really want to play the Mets. They lead the
(14:14):
Giants seven. Nothing. Now they've broken it open and made
it safe for Josh had to pitch the ninth thing
it was it was zero zero, Yeah, it was nothing.
Nothing Now it was condolines. Like Zack Wilson got in
the game, went down the field, they threw him a touchdown.
Philly Special works everywhere he works in Pittsburgh to just
get that touchdowns. All it is doing that dance and
Zach Wilson dance. It's awesome, fantastic. Uh yeah, So the
(14:38):
Padres look like they're on a collision course with the Mets, unless,
of course, the Braves los the next two nights and
the Mets win, and then suddenly it's say, the Braves,
how are you feeling about that weekend stuff? I mean,
we have to re visit that at least for a moment,
because you've danced around it. Here's like two and a
half hours. Here's how your aces got well, they got
beaten soundly. As a team, you laid down. Uh look,
(15:01):
I listened to the Braves beat a garbage can before
every pitch to Olsen and look like, out of that
guy's house. I told you earlier this year, the Mets
aren't gonna be happy until they give the division away.
And they do. And it wasn't about losing this series
to the Braves. They go in to play a great
team on the road. It happens. But when you can't
(15:23):
beat the Nationals and the Cubs and the Marlins, and
if you win one or two more games against them
in the last month, the teams that absolutely stink and
have given up on the season, well yeah, this is
what's gonna happen, right. I was, I was, I was.
Wasn't surprised that the Mets Scott swept. I thought we
could just get one and maybe, but once they lost
(15:44):
the first night, then they lost. She lost it. That's it.
That's it. This is the Braves week, and the Bras
are a great team and they're the champs, but What
really soften the blow was the fact that Jets won
and it was a huge day because and I being
serious when I tell you this, this was a career
changing drive for Zack Wilson to win that game against
(16:08):
the Steelers yesterday. It was a career changing drive. Career
changing He comes in the last drive, he tells the
team in the huddle, we're gonna go get a blanket touchdown,
and he's perfect on the drive and they win in
a place where they had won once before in the
last three hundred years. Al Right, it is it was
I can't tell you what winning this game. This is
the biggest win the Jets have had in a long time.
(16:31):
Like I want to go back to the get to
get to the a f C Championship game back in
two thousand eleven, which is the last time the Jets
are any good. This is a This is a career
changing win for Zack Wilson, who was very mediocre and
through a couple of bad passes in the first half,
was not great. It was a game the Jets could
have given up on. But what I told you last week,
(16:53):
Remember I told you the Jets were gonna win this game,
and it was My only fear was that Kenny Pickt
was gonna come off the bench and lead into victory,
and it almost freaking happened. I was. It was like
I knew, I told you last week. I know my team.
This is one of those games where the Jets surprise
you and it doesn't seem like anything should post and
go towards them winning a game. But this was a
(17:15):
huge game for them, and it was a bigger game
for Zach Wilson. Am I putting too much importance on
one game? But you know what, I don't care. The
show is today. I celebrate. I celebrate my victories and
when and when they lose that I was. It's sad, right,
you know, I'm pissed, and I was pissed in the
first half and I was happy in the second half.
(17:38):
And I had to stop tweeting in the second half
because I always know when it's good to I know,
I always know, let me play. I always know when
the time is to walk away from Twitter. Like, you
know what, I don't think right now is a time
for me to tweet. So I'm gonna finish my MODELO
and then I'm gonna put the phone away, Like that's
it so look it was. It was such an incredible
(17:58):
win and and it everything is possible now and we
we We ended Robinsky's career. We're gonna end Tomlin's career
because he's gonna want to quit after losing the Jets.
We're gonna end Mike McDaniel's career on Sunday. We're gonna
end Teddy Bridgewater's career on Sunday. They're gonna want to
cut him after what we do to them on Sunday.
Everybody's going and the Jets are gonna end career. We're
(18:19):
ending career, they're ending the Robinsky era in Pittsburgh. That
we This is where we are right now. This is
how excited I am about this season now because things
are possible. Because now maybe maybe Zach Wilson is that guy.
Maybe I didn't think he was. I didn't think he
was gonna work in this system because the system is
(18:41):
not made for Zach Wilson. But watching that last drive,
watching him get out and play, maybe he is. Maybe
he is. And this was the last chance, holding on
by your fingernails to show it. Because if you come
back from injury and you lose, and it's still a
lost year. What happens after this year? The Jets going
next year going we got everything else, got all the weapons,
we got the running backs at the wide receivers. We
(19:02):
we've built the defense pretty good. Sauce Gardeners still has
to given up a bleeping reception. Uh, things are great,
but we need that quarterback. But now maybe we got
that quarterback. And I don't care from overreacting because this
is just fun and I'm happy. Well, you gotta live
in the moment. And Syracuse is in the top twenty five,
and both the Associated Press end in the Coach's poll.
(19:25):
This is it. It's been big as good as a gain. No,
and you've you've taken the last month to talk about
how the Mets were gonna fade, So it's easy to
just say, see, I told you we suck and and
move on and try to get a free pass. We're
not gonna do that here. We don't give you free passes.
Your team collapsed. And look when you talk about them. Okay,
(19:48):
you talk about the Mets record from from the beginning
of June, they're still fifteen to eight at the eighteen
games over five, that's pretty good. The brains were seventy
nine and thirty two. I mean, they were otherworldly. They
deserve it. They played they were the best team in
baseball since they had the same record as the Dodgers
over that time span. They just played great. It's not
like the Mets suddenly couldn't win a game. It's not
(20:09):
like it was thanks in red Sox and the head
didn't win. Did they win when it mattered? No, America,
did they win when it matter? It doesn't matter. Okay,
both of you just stopped because that was awful. Secondly,
we're still in the play Well, it's awful. We're still
in the playoff. You know, you listen, you know what,
it doesn't matter what the Jets. One can Jets. No,
(20:34):
you couldn't stop the Jets. You just sat and listen
to that, and then we did a thing about the Mets,
and all of a sudden, mentally, I can tell you
already want to go. You know, it's really unfair. What's
gonna be done to Mitchell Drobisky after losing the Jets game?
Like Mitchell Drobiski is is a cousin of yours that
you grew up with, and you feel bad for him.
Mitchell Drabinsky stinks and he's gonna lose his job because
(20:55):
he's at the bottle. Look, you couldn't be mid. He
needed to good and he wasn't good. They were mediocre
at best. Now, if Deante Johnson catches that ball right
toes over the white line, nice strike down the middle,
does he get to post? Yeah, probably because they've showed
him nine hundred times during the telecast. So it's almost
(21:16):
like in our in our meetings, our production meetings, we're
going to picket at some point, we're gonna do it.
We're gonna inject that we wait, Mike, didn't you say
you want him to sit all year long behind Mitchell Drominski? Yeah,
that's that was That was like so long again. Why
always say what people want to plan in the summer
when everything is possible on the grass is green and
(21:37):
it's hot out and it's hey, everybody's oh and oh
oh yeah, we're gonna have this guy sit all year
long and it never happens to when the footballs fly
for real, guys show you who they are. Well, well,
in a couple of the receiver's kind of showed you
who they are in terms of their effort level. Hey,
all of a sudden Kenny pickets in here. Maybe I'll
fight through this route. Maybe I'll fight through the defender
(21:58):
a little bit more. Yeah, I'm calling you. Guy is
out uh and make a Fitzpatrick complaining, Oh we gotta
beat this team when you're better than him, Like, yeah,
you had the touchdown, You should have had two. You
should have had to Zach Wilson gave you one where
he gave it straight to your gut and you dropped
it because you were probably thinking about how you were
gonna gritty back on him after you scored. Did you
(22:19):
say gritty? Because you know, I'm still not happy about
what happened against against the Jets. I didn't know this.
I know Robert Slot was such a good head coach.
I just thought he was in over his head. That's
what the guy says on the radio all the time,
the bald guy about his bald head coach. But but
for one day he outduel with Mike Tomlin. So the
question dot Tomlin, I mean, I know Pittsburgh doesn't like
(22:39):
to change things. And then never a losing record whatever.
You also won the Super Bowl in two thousand and eight.
That's a long time ago. The Jets being five hundred
and being sub five hundred for your playoff career. At
some point you look around and goes this work anymore? Were?
And it's I love Mike Tomlin one of my favorite coaches.
(23:01):
I love the candor that we get, except when he said,
Kenny Pick, it's not gonna play. But in general, he's
a guy that wears his heart on his sleeve and
gives you honest answer and you see the emotion that
he coaches with. And that's great. But at some point
it's like, how did you not go some of the
the fire out of the offensive players? And why defensively
(23:23):
just T J. Watts absence kill you? You can't wait again,
you can't beat but the Jets offensive mind stage. Oh yeah,
you know, we got guys and they were hurt in game.
Third Dackle, we look at who are the biggest fans
that are at the game. The found hey, dude, can
you you look like you fill out that sixty seven
to Pricashaw ferguson jersey? Well can you put on it?
(23:43):
Can you put on shoulder pans? Come out? Play? Because
first step? But but it's that kind of thing. So
again they lose their one in three whatever jets. Jets, Jets, Jets, Jets, Jets, Jets, Jets, Jets, jets.
If Kenny Pickett comes in and inspires guys to really
want to fight through defenders and go make plays, go
make plays. Right, you look at Pickens had himself a
(24:05):
big day overall. There was a shot to him early
on that fell harmlessly to the to the ground, but saying, hey, well,
because he stopped running his route because he didn't think
he was gonna throw it to the deep balls like, hey,
guess what, you gotta run all the way through all
the time, and instead he let the defenders get back.
By the way, the defender interfered with him on that play,
(24:27):
but they didn't call it. That's fine. He was through him,
He was around in the whole nine yards. But hey,
great defensive play. Uh incomplete bad on Mitchell Robinsky, Right,
So you go through the process and he's done there.
It's it's Kenny Pickett's job. He electrified them a little
bit in on the ground. He saw a little bit
(24:49):
of surge. They still have to figure out how to
free Nazi Harris and get him out of his own
head because right now he's playing like a shell of
what he was a year ago missing big holes and
as it was, and Jets are ending his career, They're
gonna go to Jalen Warrenson. Jets are ending careers. That's
how good we are, all right? For him, it's been
four weeks of missing. But when it happens against the Jets,
(25:11):
all right, that's where we gotta draw the line. It's
happening against draw the line. I'm excited to see what
Kenny pick can bring. You do have a number of guys,
both from the real and fantasy elements that might have
more value in this. And maybe Matt Canada opens up
his offense, throws away the book that he's used for
the last year and four games, burns that ceremonially and
(25:35):
they go into a new offense. Now do I get
the win? Because I told you it was October one?
Was the right? Okay? But a month ago, uh so,
I think I get the win on that when I said,
that's when Kenny Pickett was gonna take over. Taken over.
Take every damn win. You're taking the w I'm taking them,
making the I'm eating. Yeah, in the end, take your
(26:02):
w's every day. We talked about it. Find your wins.
There's a lot of bad stuff in the world, the bad,
maybe some bad in your own lives. But you know
where your teams win, where you get a prediction right,
Maybe you want a nice wager on the over on
all of the Cooper Cup prop bets today. I I
don't know. There's a there's a lot of ways to
find you. And maybe you had a nice meal. I
(26:23):
don't know. Whatever it is you got through And for you,
it's your Ketty Pickett thing. If that's what you're gonna trumpet,
since Timmy l trumpets can't be found, then and then
that's good for you. Kenny, I told yourself about I
told you, Kenny Pickt, I told you. And look at
the Jets. Look at the Jets. It's so exciting right now.
Talk about exciting. We'll tell you what's trending in the wad.
(26:45):
What what? What? Buddy? What? I just stopped. I stopped
myself the next thing out of my mom and I
doubt if I were a betting man, it's not coming
out of Steve. Be sure to catch live editions of
Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern,
seven pm Pacific. Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show
(27:07):
with my best friend Mike Harmon Giants and Padres Padres
sweating hater right now seven four to on, two out
in the top of the ninth inning. The Giants have
put four on the board in the ninth to turn
a seven nothing lead into a nail biter. So we'll
have more on this coming up in a few minutes
and tell you if how Josh Hayter gets out of this.
(27:31):
Uh after he has just hit Wilmur Florist the third evaluation,
the third hit by pitch of the inning by a
Padres picture. The bases are now loaded with two outs
in the ninth inning. Four that's why. Yeah, what have
I been telling you forever for the teams get that
(27:53):
body armor on and lead over. Why is he crying? Well,
that was pretty that was from high cheese. Realized he's
not He's not going to the playoffs this year. So
we're gonna talk to Jason lock And for the next
hour in the show. He's got some big stuff on
a big time superstar could be available at the trade
deadline in the NFL. But you know, we also talked
(28:14):
about Kenny Pickett a few minutes ago, and and and
Ian rapport of NFL media says, most likely tomorrow Kenny
Pickett will be named the new starting quarterback of the
Pittsburgh Steelers. Did we need that? Well, I think anybody
with eyes that once he came in and didn't throw
up on himself, that it was done. Yeah. I mean,
(28:35):
you know, the Jets beat him, but still maybe maybe
this is the receptions. But hey, they're not his fault, right,
maybe you're not his fault. Maybe Kenny Picketts the new
Tom Brady because the Jets when Brady came in after
the hit on Bled, so the Jets won that game,
and Brady goes on a run. Hey, Pickett comes in
from Mitchell Trabiskie, the Jets win the game. Maybe Pickett
goes on a run. So if you're looking at Kenny
(28:57):
Pickett taking over tomorrow, lets take a look at some
other quarterback changes you have to get ready for. Yeah,
all right, tomorrow will be Kenny Pickett for Mitchell Drabinski.
In two to four weeks, it will be somebody for
Baker may whether him Donald coming back from injury, because
we found out today that Donald isn't close to coming back.
(29:18):
It's gonna be a couple more weeks after a sprained ankle.
But Baker Mayfield has been awful, and whether it's Donald
or someone else, he's losing his job with Corral is hurt,
so it's not Corral, but something else is going to happen.
They're not going to continue to go down the road
with Baker Mayfield. He's going to lose his job sometime
in the next month. The only reason what they're waiting
(29:39):
for is is to have somebody else to actually go to.
Right now, there is nobody, So Mayfield stays the quarterback
for the next couple of weeks. Yeah, I'm not trying
to be the biggest Baker defender, but certainly not the
ideal condition. Bad offensive line, two playmakers right DJ more
clearly dissatisfied with what they're doing. Going back to last week,
(30:00):
Christian McCaffrey in spots has shown some semblance of his
former self right pre injury, offensive lines, bad defense as
its moments, but overall not enough to win your games
if the offense UH doesn't get jump started early. And
Baker has been below average, He's been terrible and in
(30:21):
many many of the sequences that we've watched through these
first four weeks and going back to Cleveland, we talked
about it a lot. You get carried by a really
good offensive line and a roster one through fifty three
that was always ranked by all the experts in the
top five. So you can pretty much drop a quarterback
in and in theory have the same or better success
(30:42):
than you did with Baker. Now you send him to
Caroline and he's the latest re tread in the Either
Matt Rules gonna fix us, or we just don't want
to start over all all the way back to the
stud like trying to build program like I don't know,
like saying you want to build a fantasy sports site
and you wouldn't strip away all the bad code you
just built that guess what, you're still makingna work. So
(31:05):
tomorrow will be pick it for Trabiski. A couple of weeks,
it's gonna be Baker Mayfield for someone maybe Donald somebody else.
End of the season, it's gonna be justin Fields. No, no, no,
no no. The Bears just do not trust him. They
don't trust him to throw the football. Sunday was the
first time to let him throw it more than twenty times,
and he gave me through it twenty two times. Nobody
(31:27):
wins games in the NFL throwing the ball less than
it doesn't matter. This is not about fields and how
good he is or and and clearly, look, his decision
making is not great. He's still got to learn that.
But this is more about that the Bears don't trust
him to throw the football. And if they don't trust
you to throw the football, it's not suddenly going to change.
(31:48):
Not so okay in the in week eight, week nine, Hey,
now we're gonna let you loose. No, they don't trust
him to make plays. And this is a new coaching
staff that has no loyalty at all to Justin Fields.
And if this is how it's going to be, he's
simply not going to be the quarterback the end of
this year and they're gonna move on to go to
their next guy. They don't trust him to throw the football.
(32:08):
That's the biggest of red flags you could possibly have. Yeah,
I think it comes down down to this, as you've
got not only a new coach, but talking about the
new front office of trying to decide, just like we
talked about with Carolina, of all right, you're gonna rip
it down to the studs and just say we're building
our infrastructure, defensive line, offensive line, and build back out
because you can't tell me outside of Mooney, you got
(32:30):
a receiver worth his weight and salt, I mean, and
he you you busted him out for two players, All right,
don't do I like Curtis, we worked together a little
bit years ago. But but the point being, like, you've
got an offensive line that's that's not good. It's not good.
Like the internal pressure just right up the gut. You
(32:52):
can't even get away from center without him having to
jump left, jump right like he's doing the time warp
because he's got pressure on. So would they turn away
from him? Yeah, the possibility is there. I would say,
use whatever assets are left over to build around him.
But very well could be the end of him because
(33:13):
certainly the fans don't love him, and then when when
the team doesn't trust yet, you're kno gonna be around
very long. We got more NFL coming up next to
keep it right here. Fox Sports Radio
