listening to Fox Sports Radio. Greetings and welcome inside. Happy Wednesday,
The Jason Smith Show with my big friend Mike Harmon.
As I am biting what's left of my nails as
the Knicks and the Hornets are tied at once to
(00:44):
a piece with sixteen seconds left to go. Really, week two,
you're already at ail biting. That's not good. It's all
he's got. If the Knicks get to three and one,
let's stop. I have the Jets. If this didn't see
that be as good as it gets. No, See, you're
already abandoned the Jets and your energy. No no, no,
(01:05):
but you're If you're putting this much stress and energy
into the Knicks and in week two, that means you've
already given up hope long term. No no, no, no,
no no look, no, middle of the week, I can
focus energy on on on the Knicks. The Jets got Robinson,
we made the trade. Okay, it's fine. Middle of the way,
middle week, I can focus on the Knicks. Give me
(01:26):
the end of the week and the weekend. Then it
goes back to Syracuse in the Jets. But middle of
the week, yeah, completely, Nicks Nicks, Nick Nick, Mets, the
Knicks of the Jets, Mets, the Knicks of the Jets.
That's how it goes. Mets the Nicks, That's the Knicks
of the Jets. Fat. It sounds like a song Dion
sand is actually kind of hateful, putting all that New
York energy. It's a song that would be go with
(01:47):
your like your last meal ever? You mean, that's that
one that would showed you how the Mick rib was made.
You watched that earlier, didn't you? Video? I I don't.
I don't. You didn't watch it, did you? I didn't
know I watched it, but I I didn't need him
macrib today, So I'm okay, general, I mean that that
would waited me for the rest of time. About two
(02:09):
days ago. Okay, maybe I had a big back that day.
Maybe I did. I should sue you, Jason, You trying
to make me eat one? Try for what? See? This
is what I mean last night when I said I
need time out so I could call time and Republic
Endanger started. I need, I need, I need four twenty
second time outs per show or I can just go.
(02:30):
But I could touch my shoulders call for the twenty
second and boom and we move on. Are you gonna
Are you gonna have trouble with clock and time out
management like so many NFL and oh Smith's out of
a Harvard is just running rough shot with content now
knowing that Smith can't do anything, and it's like he's
in the middle of the wrestling rink trying to reach
(02:50):
for his tag team partners or the ropes and he
can't get to either. He's got him stuck. It's only
eight minutes after the hour. Can't go to break, can't
try to fire it off. He's stuck. He's the Dino
Babers of time management here at Fox Sports. He's used
all his time outs in the first eight minutes of
the show. No, but I would I would call I
(03:11):
would call a quick Gregg Popovitch twenty like one of
those Oh I don't like that first possession. So I'm
gonna call a time out because I'm mad, because i
want to show you I'm paying attention and I'm coaching
like I would call one of those right now it
say okay, no, now we gotta go, but not and
now we gotta start over again. He's got a legal case, man,
he has a legal case. God, there's no lead. You
guys watched a video of how a mcribb is made,
and somehow it gets into the NIX and Hornet's going
(03:33):
to overtime. I don't understand how we knew we knew
how well? I mean, that's a hundred twenty two sausage
being made there as well. I need another time sausage
is healthier than what we saw. What what I do
like is that you now have this report and to
(03:54):
get into the basketball analysis all these things that they
really need to figure out, how get Brunson to commit
to at least pretending to play defense because it's killing
our ja Beer right here in week two and that's
already the analysis of the squad's like, Okay, he's gonna
kill him. Night of eighteen twenty points on the night
(04:15):
for Barrett is broadcasting live from the tirect dot com studios.
Tirect dot com will help you get there an unmatched selection,
fast free shipping, free road hatchard protection, and over ten
thousand recommended installers. Ti irect dot com the way tire
buying should be. So Horne to the Knicks one two
apiece going to overtime. We had the big game earlier tonight. Well,
(04:39):
we had a couple of big games earlier tonight. And uh,
I'll tell you what. Mike Carmen of the Milwaukee Bucks
suddenly a team that everybody is saying, Hey, well, I
was always on the Bucks bandwagon. I never was off
the Bucks bandwagon. Okay, that's fine, And look at everybody
who's just abandoning the Brooklyn Nets in this man, they
could either suck or they could win the NBA title. No,
they could suck. And that's they're doing right now. They're
(05:01):
getting thumped by the Bucks on eighty five with three
minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Kevin Durant twenty
three from Kyrie, not nearly enough for the Bucks as
Janice has forty two and fourteen. Um, yeah, the Nets
are just gonna get drubbed. That's kind of how it
was I'm not gonna be one of those. They could
either what No, I'm not gonna couch it and be
(05:22):
safe and say I could Sack told the beginning they
could be either great. No, I told you they were
gonna be terrible, because it hasn't worked out that they were.
They have been good so far. So what makes you
think just by turning the page it's gonna work out tonight? Um? Nothing?
And so far this season, Ben Simmons still has more
fouls than points because he's got four points tonight and
four fouls. So yeah, this is your reality for the
(05:43):
Brooklyn Nets. He came back to an NBA that allowed
different defense than when he left, because remember he left
a long time. But wow, that was that was? Is that?
It's it's minute, it's been a minute. I mean, we're
into a new era here of players, the rise of
Morant and some of these other guys. Uh No, it's
(06:06):
it was curious watching this game right close game Brooklyn lead,
first half, second half, Janice and a third quarter. He
was ridiculous. But there's a point where he gives Royce
O'Neill comes up with the guarden but kind of a
forearm shiver and Steve Nash lost his mind. Sort of
the great videos you'll see because normally calm, even tempered
(06:26):
Steve Nash, he may or may not really be coaching
the squad, but in that moment, boy was he fired up.
And then the Bucks have pretty much throttled them since.
And uh, Janice with his forty two and fourteen night
just running rough shot. So we'll keep you update on
all the big games going on. A big night in
(06:47):
the NBA. But we got Lakers, the Lakers coming up
with the Nuggets like we talked to yesterday. Yeah, we
got a few minutes to go from that spread. The
spread actually, uh in proved based on the news that
Russell Westbrook wasn't playing. They went from plus six to
point plus five. They went from plus six and now
(07:07):
they're favored by eleven. That's uh So we have that
game coming up in a few minutes again, Lakers Nuggets
the marquee game of the night on ESPN. But oh boy,
was there all kinds of drama with the Yankees today.
My goodness. You would think a team that's knocked out
(07:28):
of the playoffs would be able to just hey, let's
be quiet for a little bit. The World Series coming up.
No no, no, no no. The Yankees make all kinds
of news today. Hal Steinbrenner owner said that Yeah, wants
to bring Aaron Boone back, thinks Aaron Boone is a
good manager. Since that was said today, Uh that that
(07:48):
that loud cacophony of noise you heard was every Yankee
fan going, Aaron Boone sucks. What are we doing? We
can't bring the guide back. Aaron Boone is terrible. Marianna
of Ara says, I wouldn't bring Aaron Boone back. Dude
with Mariano Rivera is saying, I don't know about this guy,
and then bleach. Your report has these sources close to
(08:10):
the Yankee saying that the last week playing at Yankee
Stadium was an extremely difficult and brutal time to get through.
I mean, this is a Yankee team that was terrific.
Or because they were booing Aaron Judge after a that's
a whole other thing. They go into the playoffs and
the yango the Yankee. Here we are in the a
(08:31):
LCS and last week at the stadium was awful, and
now the Dodgers want Aaron Judge and no one's happy.
Aaron Boone is coming back with the Yankee manager. Oh
my goodness. Now I'd like to be able to zig
where other people zagg and say no, no, no. Look,
here's the bright side of things for the New York Yankees. However,
(08:51):
there is no bright side for the Yankees. Let me
just tell you that right now. This is where that
that loud noise you heard is every other baseball fan going, yeah, Jason,
there is no bright side for the Yankee all right.
You look at what they're going through now. Already the
owner says you want to bring the manager back, and
there's a lot of pushback for it. All right, that's
a big thing. The culture around the Yankees was not
good during the playoffs. How is the culture of a
(09:14):
team not good during the play I get during a
losing streak regular season, guys get upset. They don't want
to see each other all the time. You know, Jeff
McNeil and Francisco Lindor fighting over a rat. You know
now that if but during the playoffs, when you're trying
to get to the World Series, well it's it's it's
a brutal time to be to be around the team.
That's how bad it was. No This is not gonna
(09:34):
get better for the Yankees. You watch the Yankees just
spiral and circle the drain this offseason because Aaron Judge
is gonna see all of this, and he is. It's
already saying, why would I come back to this? I
think the Yankees are suddenly just gonna win number one.
Here's why they're not, and here's why there's no bright
side for the Yankees. The a L East is loaded,
and it's gonna be loaded for a while. Every team
(09:56):
is up and coming. Even the Red Sox are up
and coming. The Razor good every year. Here come the Orioles,
who were in contention for the playoffs all the way
to the end of the year, the Blue Jays in
the playoffs. The a L East is loaded. The Yankees
aging players are in producing like they needed to. Josh Donaldson,
Anthony Rizzo was just okay. None of their young players
(10:16):
is on a big star path. Four years ago, it
was what do we do with all these great players
like Miguel Anduhar and Gary Sanchez and labor to what
do we do with all these guys? Oh well and
w Hars not even on the team. Sanchez gets traded.
They thought They had a great core. We have so
much talent, and what happened. None of it materialized. They
come up and they had artificial beginnings, and now none
(10:37):
of the Yankee farm system, which is supposedly so good,
is really producing stars. Their pitching staff was okay, so
I'll give him that, but this is not a team
built for sustainable success. You saw in the playoffs. If
Aaron Judge and Joan Carlos Stanton we're hitting home runs,
the Yankees were fine, but when they didn't, the Yankees
couldn't win. They've won one Pennant in the last nineteen years.
(10:57):
They obviously need change. This is an organization that is
crying for change. Change is needed. This is not the
win it all cost Yankees that they were for the
majority of your in my lifetime, which was their identity.
It was always whatever we need, we go get and
that gives the team confidence. That gives the city confidence
and the fans, and that the electricity in the stadium.
(11:17):
When we need something, we go get it, no matter
what it is. Sometimes we'll go get a player just
so another team won't get him, and we'll send him
on the bench and we're not gonna play him but
we don't want this guy playing for somebody else and
in ten home runs in September. This is the Yankees
identity and they don't do that anymore, and they haven't
done it for a while. All of this is not sustainable.
The Yankees are circling the drink. You talk about team
(11:38):
and take a big dive next year. Just watching Aaron
Judge leven Town. Oh boy, man, Yankee fans, it will
be the biggest depression you could possibly see. What's going on.
Look at the Yankees, and they need change at the top.
They need change in the front office. They need change, man.
They need wholesale stuff. Not because I think Aaron Boone
is terrible or I think Brian Cashman is terrible. Look,
(11:58):
these guys have been able to buy content and for
a long time. Right, the Yankees are in the conversation
every year, But you're judged by a different set of
circumstances when you're with the New York Yankees, and the
Yankees are just kind of spinning their wheels. So when
you're spending your roles and the Yankees, it's time for
a change. It's time to do something to get better.
You need those big time changes at the top. You
need to loosen the purse drying and saying, you know what,
(12:19):
we are going to spend whatever we can to keep
Aaron Judge or to go out and get somebody. If
this guy wants to leave, we gotta make sure we
have our farm system bringing guys up. There needs to
be some kind of change with the Yankees, just because
what's happening. They're not getting better. So yeah, that's why
I don't see a bright side for the Yankees. And
I can't zag when you think I'm going to zig. Well,
but that's just it. We talked about it a little
(12:41):
bit Michael Kay and the rant that he had, Yeah,
Mariano Rivera, who never says anything, uh in the middle
of a business meeting, talking about and the need for
change and and that Aaron Boone should be gone. And
then you get into the question about how is the
game really managed? Is it all on Aaron Boone or
is it like so many other teams where we've got
(13:03):
that hybrid organizational approach of all right, we're gonna meet
and do all this and and get into the analytics.
Because you saw the big move was, hey, you know
what if we beat Judge second if we bat him second,
we could still get these at bats. The problem was,
why would you throw him anything to hit? You just
don't uh. And if the rest of the offense isn't
(13:25):
going to generate runs, so be it. Like just like
the Dodgers, their pitching wasn't terrible throughout the series. You
just didn't hit in situational hitting. Sorry Frostberg, but I
gotta I gotta quate the two here. Well, it's it's
the reality. I mean, Cashman has been trading on. I
(13:45):
mean he's got four World Series, don't get me wrong.
Last one came in two thousand nine. At some point
you look around and and loyalty is one thing, and
he's been there since. Another set of eyes, another organization,
fital approach. As you talk about the minor league system,
you don't have that uh shark's teeth mentality anymore of
(14:06):
a guy comes up, all right, there's another one waiting, right,
take a bite, uh, and and the next guys there, No,
they move on and with with Judge. At this point,
you're at a at that crossroads of trying to figure
out if he's worth four to five hundred million dollars
or whatever the price tag would be when you have
the Giants and you have the Dodgers. That's the other thing.
The Dodgers might be in the mix for Judge, Like,
(14:29):
what the hell is that? That was obvious? How many
teams can can afford to bring him in? The fact
that this was some great revelation is one of the
dumbest things I've ever heard. I'm gonna claim that I
hear the Dodgers maybe in We talked about that four
months ago when we were hitting the All Star break
and wondering, well, he didn't sign a contract before the year,
(14:50):
or what's gonna happen. Well, he's gonna end up here
or here or here, and guess what, the Dodgers have
to be front and center. Uh, and you already photoshopped
him in a Dodging uniform and all variations thereof long
long ago. But you're spinning your wheels and everybody else
is catching up. It's a new world order in the
at least get ready for the fall of the Yankees.
(15:10):
Better Carson or not? Oh no, I can't. He's he's
using too much of it. Sendmail already, can't. Oh yeah,
it would be one ring and it would go one
ring and leave a message or don't. If you're the boy,
that's what he would say. That's what he actually would say.
Still calls me the boy. I'm fifty one, he still
calls me the boy. Be sure to catch live editions
of The Jason Smith Show with Mike harmon weekdays at
(15:31):
ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
and the I Heart Radio App. Okay, okay, I'm just
gonna play. Come on, I'm just gonna play. How you somehow?
This is worse than t bounce bounce bounce wo This
is worse. This is worse. This is your brain on
mc ribb. We can we can talk about complicating other
(15:54):
banks make it to redeem credit card rewards, or we
could talk about how with Discover you can redeem you
rewards for cash in any amount at any time. I mean,
talk about amazing learn more discovered dot com slash redeem rewards.
That's discovered dot com slash redeem rewards terms they do apply.
So right now, the Knicks trying to hold on against
(16:14):
the Hornets one thirty two, one thirty one with four
seconds left and over time. Oh look at the Knicks. Meanwhile,
the Lakers trail the Nuggets twenty six to two. Yeah, okay,
it's not really true. But what I said that you
were like, wow, I can expect that. I could see
that Yoki has probably like eighteen, no, no, no, thirteen,
(16:35):
eleven nuggets with the lead. It's closed so far. Okay,
Anthony Davis has six and Austin Reeves starting tonight, he's
got five for the Lakers already, and he's already made
a three. He is now officially the best shooter on
the Lakers. The guy they have a guy who made
a three in the first quarter. He has the best
shooter of the Lakers have right right it down. You
can hang a banner at uh at at Crypto for that.
(16:58):
Right now. They should make a babble out of him
launching from beyond the three point arc. Make your jokes,
jokey joke makers, Oh and I will. Uh. You just
have that little video of the ball going through the
hoop and that goes to the hoop again like a chip.
You can make it just goes to the hoop. The
Lakers made the three. You could say it both ways.
(17:19):
It's a peanut butter, yeah, peanut butter. Peanut butter. Do
you ever put peanut butter on your magrib uh No, no,
but I have peanut butter with barbecue sauce can actually work.
Peanut butter on a burger is really good when the
burger has done right? Oh man, what's done right? Burger
ever done? It's gotta be no, no, no, it's it's
(17:43):
it's got. It's gonna be a no no, no, no.
Come you want to ruin a big mac with that? No, no,
it's got to be a burger ware. It's like a
medium rare on the inside, but it's kind of charred
on the outside, so you can put the peanut butter
on there and it soaks in a little bit, but
not to Oh man, it's fantastic. Man. You get up,
you get a burger with peanut butter on it. That
could be doing really right. Man. The butt peanut butter
(18:04):
sticks the bund to the burger store. It doesn't slide anywhere.
The burger slides out. Yeah, he's talking all peanut butter
and burgers has gone into a whole other world of
expertise and confusion. I would love to get a grilling
segment with Smith going. Maybe we'll work to that as
we flow. But National Football league his Philadelphia Eagles, because
(18:26):
I know what the intro was gonna be before the season,
picking them for the Super Bowl and obviously coming out
of their pie week with the undefeated record. You've got
the Cowboys trying to chase him down on a team
that well, it's in the middle of all of it
is the Bears as they make a deal with the
Philadelphia Eagles fourth round pick going back to Chicago and
exchange for defensive end Robert Quinn, formerly a sack master
(18:51):
but by all measures, all advanced metrics this year, well
it's not good for anybody. Saw that he was ranked
one oh nine of one twelve in terms of defensive ends.
Ponder that for a moment. But his history is robust.
So we look at a guy with an eighteen point
five sack total a year ago, and either that was
(19:14):
one of the steepest cliff diving experiments you're ever gonna
see a surprise, I didn't see a gift of that
with someone doing that in Hawaii or whatever with Quinn's
uh face superimposed, But or or there's something to be
tapped into here for Philadelphia and for a low, low
price of a fourth round pick. Well, now, you've got
an opportunity for the Bears. Uh, they continue on the
(19:37):
rebuild uh motion. I mentioned Dallas well because you've got
the Bears and Dallas later this week, which essentially becomes
another big national game for the Bears. You may be
tired about that, but for fantasy purposes, last three weeks, hey,
Justin Fields is the top three quarterback option for you,
So you gotta feel pretty good about that as you flow.
(19:58):
But Quinn, the Bears since and we've watched the defense
played pretty well. If you watched the game against New England,
Zappy had a couple of big moments. Play action passed
was working, they abandoned the run. Uh. Second half not
a lot of adjustments, a couple of interceptions from Zappy,
a couple of punts, you had the fumble loss. So
(20:21):
the Bears defense has played really well, particularly in the
second half of game. So now a stiff test for
the Dallas Cowboys as they chase the Eagles. And and yes,
that's you could probably claim that it's harmon being a
southside Chicago and Homer and that's fine, that's roll and Dome.
I'll take your derision and hate as it were. But
(20:41):
I'm telling you the truth. Go look up the stats, uh,
and the futility of opposing offenses along the way for Philadelphia,
the question becomes, is there something else in the bag
before we get to the trade deadline, which, as we
know is is next week November one? So while you're
kids are at home, perhaps schools are closed. My kids
(21:03):
will be home with me after being out terrorizing the
neighborhood figuratively speaking of course, uh and eating and ingesting
so much sugar. Somehow they've all decided, well, now that's
a holiday and uh if you want a band with
me and try to fight back for that, I think
there's probably a change dot organ petition uh that we
(21:23):
can add our names to along the way. But like
my dad always would look at us and say, hey,
you know, we don't have enough candy. Here, go trick
or treating for a while. Perhaps you can make the
same trick, uh, and and think for your your neighborhood
and send your children out as minions into the night
to go find you some sugary sweets. Hi Smith, I'm back. Well,
(21:44):
I had to run to the store real fast. I
got that peanut butter burger, so I had to go
real fast. Now. I'm back. Now, I'm ready to go.
If you legitimately cooked that burger, that's gonna you better
have bought some really high quality meat because otherwise I'm
probably gonna lose usual for an extended period, or we're
gonna have an echo because you literally will be performing
(22:05):
and broadcasting from a bath. Mind. I was just going
guess or high quality meat and Jason Smith is like
oil and water, dude, fair point. I was. I was
trying to you know that maybe there was a local
market that he wanted to, you know, give a give
a little bit of business to that that had a
(22:26):
higher choice and a higher grade of meat. The guy
eats like he's whimpy from Popeye. Come, I don't eat me.
I'm back on. I'm back on my compare. Everything is working.
I can hear everything you're saying. McRib I don't know
what it comes back Monday. Would you get those out
for Halloween? State seven seven? That's that, that's the move.
(22:48):
Welcome back there here for a limited time, and I
wanted all the kids of the neighborhood to experience this.
Go to jail, that dude, mc ribbs are like that
sandwich is like six dollars. I can't give that. We
have a lot of people trick or treating. I can't
do tix dollars for one. How about the Jason Smith
Day of Generosity? We we we we have like probably
(23:09):
over two hundred people come, Okay to my house, look
at you, Mr on the hill. No, I just live
in a place where people. You go back up on
that hill. Shut up, patch, somebody hang on mCrab price,
hang on how much does it mcgrab hang on McRib costs. Oh,
I mean there's always it's four dollars. Mcribb is four dollars. Yeah,
but you could get some coupons. Perhaps you can work
(23:29):
with your local mcdonughars. Gave a little bit of here's
my cupan, there's gonna be deals. Hi, I'd like eight
hundred mcribbs. Wait, how about eight hundred mcribbs. And I
need you, I need somebody to come and help. And
now all of a sudden, you went from two hundred
to eight hundred, like you're some superstar having a massive
party to which Frostberg tie shirt and I were not invited.
Oh no, no, I might even No, I meant two
(23:51):
hundred mcrabbs. Here's eight hundred dollars because that's what it
would be for. Because there's four dollars. It's not bad.
You can afford that. You spending eight hundred dollars eight
hundred here taking McRib taking McRib he just bought ten
mets hats. What are four cents? Bro? I actually no,
it's actually not that bad. Like somebody a couple of
years ago, one of Zoe's friends had a birthday party
(24:12):
in the park and she had McDonald's everybody. I'm like,
oh my god, there's like fifty kids. What they gonna do?
But they have this thing where you get cheese, like
if you order like a hundred, like a hundred cheeseburgers
is like a hundred bucks or something like that, or
like telling you, yeah, no, if you buy in bulk,
it's it's it's much. And they actually did like grilled cheese.
Do I'm like, really, yeah, they'll do grill How many
(24:32):
kids did you beat up for their Oh no, I
just I just made I just made sure I was
the first one to go and get food. I let
need to get here for everybody else? Does let me?
You did a castanza and shoved everybody out of the way,
like there was a fire in the kitchen. Just on
the merrygoround like stepbrothers, just punching every one of them
as it goes round and round. Let me grab my sands,
Let me grab my same. Be sure to catch live
(24:52):
editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike harmon weekdays
at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio and The I Heard Radio Whip. Remember I told
you my car in the beginning of the season, how
good the Eagles are going to be going to the
NFC Championship and being NFC champions. I I told you that. Yeah,
I alluded to that while you were off getting your
burger meals, Eagles, Mets, the Jets, the Knicks to the Eagle.
(25:15):
Look guy last year that had eighteen and a half
sacks and as bad and as poorly as he's played,
And I mentioned the statistic the advanced metrics were that
he's one oh nine out of one twelve in terms
of defensive ends. I can't imagine he just went cliff diving.
So put him in a scheme. Put it some players there.
Perhaps there's some opportunity, especially when you might actually be
(25:37):
playing with the lead. This past week against New England
was the first time, uh in a while that was like, wow,
we're we're front running here, uh and we can get
after it. But yeah, fourth round pick, pretty pretty good.
And word is they're not done yet. No, look, and
it's showing you we're all in on this season. We
know this can be a special year where we're the
(25:57):
only undefeated team in the NFL where owded we have
a great roster. Yeah, we believe in this team. We're
all in. This is a This is an extra layer
of juice that the Eagles get. Conversely, the Bears, who
were sitting well, we're three and four and maybe you
know we see some glimmer. Nope, no, oh, we're we're
trading our good players. Okay, the Bears are not all
in on this season easily, and that mentally can do
(26:20):
a lot to a team when you're into you know,
six seven weeks and hey, we're figuring things out and
the Bears you have to be if you're being if
you're being right. The Bears are kind of on the
upswing because it looks like they figured things out a
little bit with Justin Fields and he's played much better
than last couple of weeks. You're thinking, Okay, we're three
and four, just like everybody else's. There's no great teams. Nope, Hey,
(26:42):
we're trading one of our big time leaders and a
guy who is a great player for a long time. Noe,
we're getting read what kind of messages this said? Eagles
are all in, Bears are not all in. That is
a depressing thing, a depressing day to have to go, Okay,
who's next, who's gonna who's next? Who are getting rid of? Next? Where?
What's happening now? Because clearly nobody believes that this could
(27:04):
be a year we could do anything here in Chicago. Well,
that's the hard part is that you look at the
next month and obviously there's teams with advantage at least
where they're in the in the standings. Right, you got Dallas,
you got Miami, you got the Jets. You got three teams.
Are they all three of those teams potentially beatable? Though?
No, no no, no, But if your defense and run game
(27:25):
do what they have done in in the vast majority
of the contest you've played to date, you conceivably can
win one or two of those games. And then there's
a couple other on the slate during that stretch that
at worst it to pick them, if not them favored altogether.
So too do this move at three and four. And look,
(27:49):
they've got a ton of cap space. This is something
that will be little reported and we've been talking about
it for a long time. Is the Bears have a
lot of cap space now convincing people to come there,
particularly wide receivers. Maybe they'll see enough of justin fields
to believe, right if you're an offensive line and maybe
hey I can blow. I would love the block for
that guy. Maybe. But you look at the draft picks
(28:11):
for next year at first a second and third to fours,
one of them coming from Philadelphia, a fifth, three, six
when you have the Dolphins and Chargers picks in there,
and then a seventh. As you can tell, Uh, still
with this temporary bridge, the the s is still are
not fun for me. But that's a lot of ammunition
for the front office that got changed over this year.
(28:34):
But was a bit surprised when this this news hit
and you saw it in the press conferences that we're
going down ro Kwan Smith Uh started to break down,
like that's a guy that's been a leader in the
in the locker room and you know, the family kind
of atmosphere that you have with veterans that are are
welcoming in younger players, so that one's a big hit,
(28:56):
and and curious to see how it'll it'll flow in
Chicago and if they're not not going to make another
move or to some communication and rumors that David Montgomery
might be another guy on the move ro Kawan Smith himself.
So I'm curious to see if they strip it all
down to do a complete rebuild and reset around Justin
Fields after watching him these last couple of weeks, Twitter

(29:42):
up next, a big time quarterback change was made this week,
and maybe, just maybe the head coach knows a little
something that we don't. Sam Sam Sam Sam Big surprise

Can't blame Russell Westbrook for this, He's not playing. Uh so,
(30:23):
we'll have more on this game coming up in a
few minutes. Again, the Lakers trying to avoid going to
oh and four unless they're tanking because they know the
NBA is going to give them a special number one
overall draft pick just because you know they trade all
there is away. But hey, we gotta help the Lakers.
Let's give them that draft pick. I'll be an interesting
bonus structure. I'd like to see that, right, Adam Silver say, hey,
(30:43):
it's so important to keep the Lakers good, we're gonna
give them that number one pick. Well, you know, is
it like Congress where you have a giant or or
your local government where you go and you you're voting
something in and then there's one paragraph that gets something
else done and in this case, hey, this is really
good for the league. It's gonna help prosper globally. And
(31:03):
then there's one paragraph at the end and by the way,
the Lakers had been granted the number one overall pick
for the health of the game. But everybody's arguing about
the other thing, and it vote gets voted in, like, yeah,
that's great. It's like you also get the Lakers the
number one pick. Suckers are coming up. Make sure you're
reading all of those things on your ballots, Papel, because
(31:26):
there's extra ham and pork being added to what you're
voting on. Rob Polinka with his arm around when but
not Yama. Hey wait, welcome. You're gonna love Los Angeles. Man,
it's just like Paris, except there's much more traffic. You
newman coming in with the piano. What's happening there? But
(31:46):
we have so much quarterback news to get to over
the course of the next few minutes. Right, we have
guys getting jobs back, we have guys losing jobs. But
let's focus on one guy who's lost his job this week,
just for a minute. Matt Ryan, who he is looking
at the end of his NFL career, as he has
benched and sitting for the rest of the season has
a shoulder ine you but even when he gets healthy,
(32:07):
head coach Frank Reich said, we are going with Sam Ellinger.
He is. There's a lot of money that is tied
up in whether he's healthy or not, a lot of
guaranteed money. If he gets hurt. We're talking to some
seventeen million dollars. You're not going to place right, You're
not gonna play. We're going We're going with Sam Ellinger. Wait,
what the Texas guy that was fighting with Baker Mayfield. Yes,
(32:28):
that's so we're not going to Nick Folls. No, we're
going to Sam Ellinger. Uh. Here's Matt Ryan from earlier
today talking about how shocked he was over being benched
by the Colts. You just always anticipate. You know, it's
next week, You're getting ready, You're you're gonna go, and
so that's where your mindsets at. There is a little
bit of that surprise and shock or whatever at the beginning,
(32:48):
but it's a decision that had to make and and
you know, as as a player, as a teammate, you
have to move forward. So there he is and likely
not coming back because of what the bone says, he
would get playing quarterback, pass, all physicals and everything else
will be wrapped in bubble wrap. When you'll get given
a nice shiny new hat to wear on the sidelines
(33:11):
where your your uniform is gonna look so shiny. You
help out Sam Ellinger. Now this is where maybe Frank
Reich knows something that we don't. Well, I'm sure, look,
he obviously knows what what Sam Ellinger is capable of.
But we might be in for a big surprise this week,
all right, because think about what the Cults are doing.
(33:33):
They're three, three in one. The season is not over, right,
they play in a craptastic division. Everything is still there
for them, and they're not one in six and it's desperation.
They're not worth two in five and we're not scoring
any points. No, no, it's it's hey, everything is still
that right. They've played games where they've overachieved and surprised you.
They've played games where they really have underachieved. Right now,
(33:54):
they're done with one of their division games and so
but it's but here they are, and they're right in
the thick of everything. They're in the thick of the
playoff race there in the thick of the race of
the division, and here comes the move that not only
is Matt Ryan bench, He's not going to play the
rest of the year. Nick Foles is not going to
be the guy. I'm not gonna go to be seen
(34:15):
Nickles sa seasons before and that's not gonna happen. We're
going with Sam Ellinger. Why is this happening. Frank Reich
knows something. He talks about the special sauce that Ellener
had and look, he had a really good preseason right
through the wall all over the field, he looked really good.
He's mobile, uh and and and this looks like, okay,
(34:36):
let's see what he can do. But this is a
really this is very early to say we're all in
on him for the rest of the season. And he
wouldn't do that unless he knew this is gonna come
out looking really well for us. This is not well,
let's throw a kid in there and see what happens,
because that's what you do later on in the season.
Season gets away from you. Let's see what he can do,
(34:57):
because maybe we're looking at answers for next year. The
fact they're going to him this early, we could be
in for a surprise on Sunday, and maybe Frank Wright
knows a little something something that we're gonna see Sunday
that nobody is talking about. Well, I think part of
it is we got a guy that will actually be
able to move more than two or three steps to
his left or right and may actually hold onto the football. Sorry,
(35:19):
Matt Ryan, it had to be said. Sorry to be
blunt between fumbles and interceptions and his inability to get
out of the way, and and an offensive line that's
not playing as well as past expectation. Right. We we've
had that with the Cowboys. Now we have it with
the Colts. Not necessarily the same juggernaut that they once
were in that regard, which means you need a quarterback
(35:40):
that can move off the spot. Matt Ryan, ain't that guy?
So Ellen, you're for that to that level you should be.
And you've got two young receivers, right. Paris Campbell's finally healthy,
guy that you've been waiting on a couple of years
to be there at Pittman's healthy after missing much of
last year. And now you have alec Here's who's arriving
(36:02):
as well, a guy that has gotten some run in
the Fantasy World, Paris Campbell, you're a waiver wire darling
this year, but now you have three viable wide receiver
and in theory Jonathan Taylor getting healthy. So what do
you do? You make the move? You you save yourself
and protect your your money's uh in terms of injury.
But you also are looking at Matt Ryan that even
(36:23):
with a three nine yard game and all of that stuff,
you've given away so many possessions and that just could
not stand. M hmm. Maybe he knows something. Maybe coach
at the team. I would hope you, boy, Sam. Let's
