(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio as we commemorate the
anniversary of the original Rocky coming out into theaters. I
channel one of the quotes from the sequels, throw the
dab doe and just walk away Mexico City watching the
final seven minutes of whatever this has become between the
(00:46):
forty Niners and Cardinals. Welcome in. Mike Carmen alongside Chris Blank.
Doesn't know Jason Smith to night. He is on vacation
this week. Uh, you can wish him to eat some
bad boy or I don't know, maybe the Coca cola
is flat, whatever the case may be. Welcome in. Thanks
for making us part of your extended family. We're having
(01:07):
a blast with you on a holiday Monday. Final minutes here,
Mr Blank, Trace McSorley two of three, twenty yards in
for Colt McCoy and then we saw brock Purty come
in for the forty niners and what happened immediately miscommunication
trying to do a handoff. That's where we're at in
this game, and still gained seven still gained seven yards
(01:31):
on the kerry for brock Purty. This is like a
good old fashioned like Liberty Bowl matchup, Iowa State versus
pinn State, McSorley versus Brockney Street done. Oh gosh, this
is so bad to watch. I'm telling you, Uh, I
don't know what's going wrong with the Cardinals this year.
Outside of the fact that they didn't have the Andre
Hopkins and then when he came back immediately Marquis Brown
(01:54):
got hurt. They've actually been better than their showing tonight defensively.
But I feel like we're gonna be all on coach
watch tonight, Jason. I don't know how quickly it will happen.
I don't know if it'll be by our final hour.
But I mean, if I'm Arizona, I don't know how
you can continue down this path with Cliff Kingsbury as
your guy. But as soon as I say that, they
get a big punt return, but of course it's irrelevant.
(02:16):
I I was so excited. I love this show because
this is probably the show that I can sue more
than any others, because if it's running errands or if
it's you know, coming back from events. I listen to
you and Jason a lot, and I was open, We're
gonna have a great Monday night football game, and of course,
funny night football ends up being thirty eight to ten.
I'll get all this college football with Lane kit and
(02:37):
all of a sudden, Lane Kiff and stuff is b us.
Like everything that I thought might come to a head
tonight and be awesome topically has imploded right in front
of my face. And not see the Cardinals can't even
get a punt return right they block in the back
of the middle of this. Can we go with the
running clock little league style for the rest of this game? Please?
Anything happen to do it like they did in a
couple of college football games this year. Hey, you know
(02:58):
what for the We're gonna make ten minute quarters. We're
just gonna get done with it. Hey, we're broadcasting live
for the tire act dot Com studios tire act dot Com.
We'll help you get there. Unmatched selection, fast free shipping,
free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers.
Tire act dot com the way tire buying should be. Yeah,
it's Jimmy Garoppolo sat down four pack for him that
(03:21):
I get those fours up nine to you get you played,
You got fed four for eight four and t George Kittill,
no doubt he's gonna throw that Luchador mask back on too.
For Brandon ayouk Is only two catches of the night.
Talk about operational efficiency. Deemo Samuel three carries for thirty
(03:41):
seven yards and a score to go along with seven
catches for fifty seven yards. And for me, and it's
really all about me at this point, Mr Plank, because
I have a guilla team league that I'm still alive in.
I don't even know what that means, which means you're
in a fantasy league that every week the team that
scores the least points gets cut. Everybody goes to the
waiver wire. Last year I lost in a two week playoff.
(04:04):
This week or this season, I'm in now in the
week eleven, and I got a little cute with the lineup.
Given Naji Harris's ineffectiveness to date, I played Candarius Tony
in one flex spot Goose Egg, and then I had
Elijah Mitchell in the other. Again Naji Harris and his
(04:25):
twenty seven points sitting on the bench. Uh for the
first game he actually was useful beyond just a placeholder. Uh.
So now I'm in a dogfight at the bottom end
of the standings. For one week, I've been a top
score I think six of the first ten weeks. This week,
my Miami guys are on by, so find a couple
of capable substitutions. And then I got cute with Naji
(04:47):
Harris and took away my normal touches. But some late
carries from Elijah Mitchell looked like they're gonna get me
over the top ahead of Trey McBride, who's on the
other side. Uh, I think your head that would be
none that's in. I'll lose your head. Start singing songs
from six the Musical on Broadway, because then teen League
(05:10):
six Musical on Broadway went Elton John On Saturday, I
mean like I got a lot of stuff going on
to Kill the mocking Bird theater. I was watching college football,
so you're you're a level of class above me. But
but you know what. You know what I did, no
waiting on the contract to start. You watch it on
your c l A on my phone. My kids are
looking at what are you doing? Like wow, what a game? Uh?
(05:31):
Like you're insane. You're like me whenever I'm trying to
sneak around at any family and my daughter's tattle on me. Yeah,
so I've got a pretty slick I've gotten one daughter
in the bag. It's like, hey, I'll give you ten
bucks if you don't say anything to your mom. I'm
trying to watch whatever it might be whenever it's bye
week or it's later in the evening and either Okloma
plays a day game or the Raiders you know, are
(05:52):
are playing an afternoon game. So I've gotten one daughter
who I've kind of paid off. I got another daughter
who will constantly like raise the stakes on me, and
it's I'm gonna tell mom that you've got your phone
on the ticket or you've got your phone on the
USC game and then I'm like, what's your what's your
cost which? And she's like a million dollar man, Mike,
I'm just sitting there paying like crazy just to get
(06:12):
him off my back. So yeah, it's what the other
stuff got stack of cash like Virgil the well, the
other vest and boat I was it was there. A
third member of that crew wasn't a million dollar man,
Ted dB here was his manager Slick. I think the
the other daughter would kind of be like my Slick,
where she's protecting of it and she understands what's going on.
(06:33):
Then I've got a third one who maybe is a
little bit more like Virgil, who sh'll protected, but she
also knows she can increase the stakes there. So yeah,
I've got a knarc I've got to get out of
my system here because I gotta watch games right now.
This would be a game tonight that I would have
turned off, no question about it. Uh the Raiders games
this year I would have been able to turn off.
But you know what I will say, Uh, college football
(06:56):
to me has been the gift that's kept giving all
season long. The big games to me have to live
and you haven't had a top to bottom you just
brought up. I'd like to welcome the West Coast to
the college football conversation. We've missed you and it's fun
to see it relevant. But hey, you had to find
a way to watch that game on Saturday night, regardless
of where you are or whatever high class, high falutant
(07:16):
event the Harmons were taking part in because it was
must CTV and we haven't had that w A U,
S C U C l A matchup in a while.
So welcome back to college football the West Coast. Nobody
has celebrated back twelve after Dark as much as I have,
particularly in this time time slot on Fox Sports Radio.
The rest of the world sleeps on it. There's been
some good football played for years. Yeah, there's bad, bad
(07:39):
half of the conference, but in most conferences you've got
three or four teams sometimes more that's just dre good.
And we we conveniently in most of those other conferences
SEC we put a blanket over them like they don't
exist and only talk about the top. Look how great
they are. It's like, well they gotta beat somebody, beat
(08:00):
each other. They're beating up on everybody else. But here
we are in the usc A squad. When the new
rankings come out tomorrow, you got the Heisman favorite. He favorite,
He's the betting favorite. Now whoa USC today? I don't
know if everyone caught it, but USC today started their
(08:21):
Heisman push for Caleb Williams ballots have not been sent
to Heisman voters as of yet. You know, they they've
readjusted the way that they've done the voting. You know,
in the past, they would send it to you like
November one, and guys would suddenly be sitting in their
ballots before Thanksgiving, which is the dumbest and all those
guys that now are no longer relevant to a national title.
(08:44):
They were good six seven weeks and that's exactly. But
so they would vote for him early and then they've
even reevaluated Mike. One thing they're doing this year on
the they finally realized they have too many voters, so
they've started to cut back on that. But I say
that all that to basically lay out out it started today.
USC realized, all right, let's go, let's push this. So
(09:04):
they've started the he is and Matt Leiner was the
first place I saw it. Uh his he is blank campaign.
You know, Heisman, h G I S And it's all
about Caleb Williams. And you've got coaches talking about him,
You've got uh teammates talking about him. He is family,
he is this. But I'll tell you what he's he's
looked apart. It's kind of cool to see that he's
the betting favorite now, kind of cool to see USC
(09:27):
back in the mix. But today I think USC embraced
all Right, it's time we're gonna start making our We're
gonna start making our push for him, and I think
he's got a great chance to win this thing for
Lincoln Railey this year really a monster effort in that
narrow win. Look, if you had U c l A
plus two points, you still came home a winner, but
five and and it was exactly I think as we
all anticipated. Uh, there's no defense really being played here.
(09:50):
Takeaways though, how is that happening? Kind of how have
they been that consistent? Do you think they jumped to
for tomorrow night? You know what? And that's an interesting piece,
right becau as TCU as we've watched them go along
the way, and we've heard coaches and pundits and everybody
chime in, and when we get down to it and
(10:11):
Sunny Dikes, you know, talking about it, saying, look, all
we can do is win our games. Right if everybody
else is going to decide we don't play quality opponents,
we don't. And that's where I've always been fearful and
I've said it on this show a number of times
of putting them into the top four right off the jump,
right without a lot of time and elapsing in weeks.
(10:33):
Elapsing is setting it up to be disastrous, setting up
for a great TV show, don't get me wrong, but
setting it up for potential failure. Because if they go
and they do run the table and somehow still get bounced, boy,
I tell you that that is uh, that is about
as bad as against We tell you what to do
and we ranked you fourth only to take you out
at the end. But I can't I can't say I
(10:56):
wouldn't be expected if you will see wins out. Here's
the thing this is gonna come down to, if TCU
can finish undefeated. TCU got hosed the first year because
why they had a loss and they didn't have that
extra data point that everyone talks about with a conference
championship game, so you kind of split votes between them
and Baylor. I don't think there's a way that they
(11:18):
get left out of the four team playoff undefeated. I
just don't. I'll tell you what's interesting. What's interesting to
me is if this week in Ohio State and Michigan
play a game that we're all talking about. You got
you and Jason come on here Monday, and you're like,
my gosh, that Ohio State Michigan, those look like the
two best teams in the country. So to me, that's
where this really becomes interesting because I think there's a
(11:39):
really good chance with the Tennessee loss that if USC stumbles,
or if TCU stumbles or heaven forbid l s U
Beach Georgia and the SEC championship game, there might be
a chance that the team that lost the Ohio State
and Michigan game, if it's a great game, Jason, that
could be the team that's knocking on the door of
getting that fourth spot. This is as wild as I've
(12:02):
seen it because you have four undefeated you have four
teams with zero losses at this point in the season.
That's crazy, and four Power five car three Power five conferences, right,
the SEC, Big Ten, and the Big twelve. And we
can debate the Big twelve and know you being down
to Texas being down, I'm sorry, I I pushed back
against Tennessee's played a light schedule. The Big twelve is
(12:22):
infinitely better than the Pack twelve. This year. In my
humble opinion, or is it my honest opinion, I digress.
The point is, I just think that you've got a
brand in usc that's making a push. You've got two
really good teams in Ohio State in Michigan where it
looks like one of them, one of them is going
to be left out, and suddenly down here you got
Clemson just hanging out, Mike just hanging out, kind of
(12:42):
making a little bit of headway, winning games, bouncing back
after the loss to Notre Dame. So we're gonna see
I think some fascinating debates over the next few weeks.
I just I wish the College Football Playoffs Committee wasn't
so stubborn about it. Right. We know you're gonna disagree,
we know you're gonna have arguments. Quit putting boot carryin
out there in front of us and act like everyone
was on the same page with it. It's gonna be
(13:04):
fascinating to see what matters to them over the next
few weeks. Well, hair splitting as you go right there.
Look maybeing the big ten apologist, and I know where
you cash checks. I mean, we're gonna have our opinions.
That's that's the way it works checks a lot of places. Mike.
I'm just saying, you know, you kind of wear the
college thing on your sleep. My team's wont in ten,
so I've got to go take the banner of the
(13:24):
big ten uh and run there. But it's say Ohio
State or Michigan has is a blowout win. Right, It's
one thing if it's a close game, then all right,
you really shouldn't get penalized too terribly, and then we
start looking at undefeated and whatever. But if one of
them gets blown out, very easy to just say okay,
and then beating Northwestern as one of the data points
(13:47):
that helps kill off all the opportunity. You mentioned the
pact twelve six good teams, good to great, six terrible teams, right,
I mean, and we can go on down the line
and play that dance all the way through. What's gonna
be curious is how we we sort out that usc
L s U Clemson still there. And then you've got
(14:08):
plenty of voices that still want to see Alabama gaining
however they can. Alabama's out, Alabama's out. I'm with you
on that. I just enjoy listening to people make in
aime cases to talk about why they should be in it.
They might be the best team, they might have the
best excuse me, they might have the best talent, but
they have been the best team well, and they're at
(14:28):
number thirteen out of last week. You've got Notre Dame.
Unfortunately they lost three games early. Those don't suddenly disappear
because you're playing well in November, at least in my world. No,
I agree with you, and the Notre Dame run reminds
me quite a bit um And we got to go
back a bit whenever Sam Donald took over from Max Brown, right,
(14:49):
and that was many years ago for us, and maybe
one of the last times and USC just ran the table.
They were awesome with Sam Donald. I remember Joe Klatt saying, well,
this is a different team and maybe we need to
consider them. I know they've they've got three losses, but
consider what they've been since Sam Donald took over. So
I like hearing those conversations, but I just until we
get to twelve, Mike, I don't think those are things
(15:09):
we could have. So let me pose this to so
we don't get too care because I don't need to
uh to pause. But go ahead. I know, I know
we're up against it. If you're looking at the four
teams that you would say today, if Chalk Holes USC
wins out, TC, you doesn't lose to Kansas State in
the Big twelve championship game, or who is it Iowa State?
Next week? The Ohio State Michigan winner gets in and
(15:30):
Georgia takes care of business? Is that fourth spot? USC?
Is USC controlling its own destiny to make the playoffs? Now?
I thought they did last week? Do you think they
still do finish it with panash because you're putting up
big numbers. You got the Heisman favorite and the love
and lust to get the here USC. Well, yeah, to
get USC back on top. But they have the l
(15:51):
a market actually care about the playoffs. Yeah, I think
they control their understanding. I do too, which is why
they'll probably lose a notre name. And that's the game
that's stares you in the face, now, doesn't it. Be
sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show
with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app. Hey,
(16:13):
welcome back in It's Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Carmen no Jason Smith tonight or all
this week. He's off on vacation in Hawaii. If you
see a really real pasty guy walking up and down
the beach, might be him holding the big back, might
have been carrying big mags, might have figured out how
(16:34):
to get him delivered to his spot on the beach.
I don't know what to tell you. Wearing jets, swim trunks.
I mean, he's got all of those things, and it's
an image that really I wish I could burn out
of my brain just from putting out there. Well, you
know what we can get off of that by talking
about what we love most in the National Football League
this time of year, there's two things. You Either you've
(16:55):
got a divergent path, right. You know, when Yogi Barras said, hey,
you get the fork in the uh take, it didn't
really tell you which side. Same same thing here. We
either go playoffs and positivity. Here we go strike the
schedule down the stretch, or we go Leonardo DiCaprio end
of Once upon a Time in Hollywood. We bust out
(17:16):
the flamethrow and we say, all right, who's nets And
that's kind of where we're at here in this National
Football League season. After a horrible showing from your Arizona Cardinals. Look,
they were in the game at halftime, they were slapping
around and they moved the ball well. Bad interception off
the hands of James Conner in the first half ended
a drive. He saw operational efficiency and execution. DeAndre Hopkins
(17:42):
finishes with nine catches yards. That's I'll find good. James
Conner forty two yards and a score, a couple of
catches out of the backfield. But the fact that we
look at the box score, we see Trace mcsorley's name
tells you about where it went as this game wore
on second half twenty one nothing, forty nine ers, Kid
with two touchdowns, Auk with two touchdowns, Deebo Samuel with
(18:03):
a touchdown. You played guys in your fantasy league. You
felt pretty good because Christian McCaffrey didn't find the end zone,
but still over a hundred total yards and Jimmy g
with four. That's all finding good. Forty niners we're expecting
on the surge. Good for them, they took care of
business in Mexico City. As for the Cardinals, this is
where the flamethrower comes in the other maybe you're you're
(18:23):
making a nice barbecue and and you're gonna cook have
a cook out, and everybody celebrates, but the Cardinals that day.
How do I roast the contract of Cliff Kingsbury? How
do I look at that? Because you signed him in
the off season. And that's where the the part of it, Chris,
that that gets a little strange. What we start saying,
all right, well, this guy's gotta be out oftentimes. And look,
(18:45):
I'm a I'm a Bears guy. Right now, you've got
Justin Fields with his shoulders, so Northwestern product Trevor Simeon
likely to see some reps. We'll get to him in
a little while. But you start saying, all right, what's
the what's the next move? Right? What what do you
need do? And oftentimes, and I bring the Bears up
for good reason. They never wanted to pay out a contract.
(19:06):
So even if it was dead man walking and you
knew it, the guy was getting the last year and
then it was well, we're just not resigning in Technically
we never fired him, so we don't owe him any
back money. Hell, you you talked about the love of Raider.
I mean, you know that's the Davis m. O ye,
(19:28):
the Bears, but I mean it's the family business thing,
right And with the mc caskeys and the Hollises, it
was always a all right, well, what's what's the win?
And we could talk about that all the time, like
I bring it up on the show with great regularity.
If you're gonna fire a guy, do you have a
better option either on staff or that you're targeting that
can come right in. And given the rules of the
(19:49):
National Football Leaguest, you can do some weird things with
interim tags, as we saw in Indianapolis when Jeff Saturday
gets hired but doesn't have to go through Rooney rules, etcetera.
Something that is now being you know, raising the hand
and saying, well, hold on a second, but in the
interim it's the all right for interim coach's sake. How
(20:11):
much does this help us in the short term to
make a change. Do you feel like if it's Arizona
Advance Joseph who's their defensive coordinator, or Sean Coogler, who's
been a head coach of course it was at the
college ranks, long time Steelers offensive line coach, do you
think one of those guys could take over the head
(20:31):
coach and spark something in Arizona that in a couple
weeks from now has them maybe at seven and seven
instead of being at four and seven and out of
the mix right now. The thing that's interesting about the
Cardinals making the move, in my opinion, Mike, is they
they still have their bye week to come. Yes, they
haven't played their by Did I just say they haven't
(20:52):
played thereby? Well, someone walk in the studio. That took
me in the face. Right now, I have no problem
this thing. Ever said no, But I mean, you got
a game against the Chargers, then you're by, then you're by,
and then you maybe that's it. But you know, I
came away from it tonight wondering if they're gonna say,
all right, Kyler Murray was out. He's missed a couple
(21:14):
of games. Yes, you beat the Rams, but you've lost
three or four, Cliff Kingsbury, get Kyler back next week,
get a win, and we'll make you the rest of
the season. You don't sure. We just signed you to
contract extension at the start of this season. That was
a five year extension. But we'll go ahead and take
that haircut. I think it would be like, um, I
(21:36):
don't like eight million, nine million, maybe more than that
they'd have to pay them buy him out. I didn't
see if it was fully guaranteed. And let's see if
at four and eight we can't at least salvage some
sort of respectability the rest of the way, or or
they don't give a bleep at this point. And you
realize at four and seven, even if you lose to
the Chargers, or Justin might say, when they lose to
the Chargers, you're they need to finish games. There's no
(21:59):
guarantee is on either side of that you might be
better off draftwise, And maybe Arizona looks at it and says,
all right, well, why risk getting better the rest of
this season. Let's just make sure we're in the top
ten of this draft and see if we can't get
some help. But either playmaker or or or are defensively,
so it's kind of that double edged sword, right, You
probably need to make a move with the coaching front.
(22:20):
You probably need to give someone else a shot. But
I mean, I can't believe I'm saying this. How good
do they truly want to be? Mike? Well, but that
but that's the double edged sword to it, right, How
good do you want to be. How good can you be?
Because beating the Rams right now is like beating me.
You tie shirt native our friends on the playground. Steve
de Seger is our our official quarterback and he's winging
(22:41):
it around. I mean, that's where we're at with with
what the Rams are. Right. Staff might not be available
this week, Cooper cups out for the year essentially, right,
They haven't ruled him out, but to I R and
where they're at, sitting at three and seven, why are
you gonna try to rush him back on it if
ventually reinjure himself at the end of the year, there's
(23:02):
no point there. Stafford perhaps going out, and Wolford's hurt.
So now they don't even have a third quarterback right
park Right, So they're gonna have to sign someone and
bring them up and all of like, there's all these
things that have to float through Seattle, like we talked
about before. Yeah, they're six and four, but they're not
running away there. They're a solid team. They're great, not great,
but they're good enough and efficient enough that they're gonna
(23:24):
be a pain in the neck Fortins. We saw it
tonight and again, decide how much you love or hate
the Arizona Cardinals, but they took care of business and
their scheduled down the stretch, you're looking at a game
against the Saints. They're terrible game against Arnie's beloved Dolphins,
and that's at home up in Santa Clara. Then you've
(23:44):
got they've got three straight home dates coming up, Saints, Dolphins,
Buccaneers before a road date with the Seahawks, a commander's
team that gets Chase Young back and has won five
of its last things. Right, you got a two headed
monster in the backfield, and in Gibson and Robinson, a
couple of good receivers. You get Chase Young back to
(24:05):
a defense but playing pretty good. That's an interesting game
at your Raiders. Now that's a loss. There you go,
and then you finished against the Cardinals. But it's the
NFL plank edny week. I have no idea what the
hell is gonna happen. And that's been the beauty and
the pain of it week to week. League baby, So listen,
I noticed Sager is waiting to roll in here, so
(24:27):
maybe we we table this. But the way you were
just selling me on San Francisco and looking at their
schedule and the way we have questions about what's going
on with is this sustainable for Seattle and Gino Smith?
The Niners winning tonight that they and with all the
mess that you eloquently laid out with the Rams and
we're talking about Arizona firing their coach. Has San Francisco
(24:49):
reaffirmed their spot as the favorites and the likely winner
of the NFC West? Have they now taken that mantra
back after struggling with it for a couple of weeks.
I always thought that eventually the things would get right
as they got healthy, adding McCaffrey in the end. I mean,
I liked Jeff Wilson. I liked some of the guys
(25:11):
they had now Wilson and most or are you know
down in Miami, Uh, two guys that operated under McDaniel
are now thriving there. Elijah Mitchell miss seven games, so
now he's back and he helped close this one out
and then once it got completely out of control, I
mean to have that two headed monster McCaffrey, the weapon
that he is as a receiver, and people are like, well,
(25:32):
you know, he doesn't stay healthy. I'm like, well he's
healthy now, Okay, Like when whenever we do the draft pick,
and oh they gave up a lot to get him.
It's like, you know what they want to win in Arizona.
They're playing for this super Bowl, not for next year,
not the year after. And you know what, these guys
have operational efficiency. It's one of my favorite phrases to
(25:53):
go to because they actually have a stable office, unlike
most teams in the National Football Leagues that seemed to
bring out a twenty sided dungeons and dragons died to decide.
Who's making a draft pick decision on a year? To
your basis, hey, how long have your GM been there?
Two years? When you look at the league, I think
there's like seven seven people or entities gms plus Jerry
(26:18):
Jones and Bill Belichick that had been in place since
or before. Everything else is churned in the last four
to five years, so you haven't had It's like to
take the college model that we we approached for all
these years before things went crazy in the n i
L and transfer world, is you had to build a program,
(26:38):
and you know what, if you didn't get it right,
you had to go back to the well. In the
new NFL, not that we saw nine hundred trades but
we do see teams getting a bit creative. We've seen
the rams with the salary capital. See how many teams
follow him down that road. People are already saying, well,
it was a failure. You got that one super Bowl, Like,
what are we doing? We got that on Super Bowl? Right?
(27:02):
Like the Lakers? Okay, yes, year to year over the
last decade, we've done a lot to be able to
just slap people upside the head and say, wow, this
is awful. But they want a title. Complain about it
all you want, call it a bubble title, a mickey
Mouth title, whatever derogatory term you want. They're still champions
and even a shortened season whatever it worked. Now they've
(27:26):
got there in hell trying to figure out how to
move things around and build a roster. But that's fine.
Eventually all of these guys will age out, the contracts
will go, and they can go Vegas blackjack dealer, clap
their hands and walk away. It's one of my favorite analogies.
By the way, well thank you, but I mean it's true, right,
nothing up my sleeve. Here you go, see letter, we
(27:47):
want our title. Listen, we set f them picks and
it worked out for us. You're you're stuck with this mess.
But seriously, I'm not gonna make this about the Raiders.
Kind of what the Raiders are dealing with right now
with that draft picks. You know, a couple of picks
can set you're back. But I'm really I'm really fascinated
to see if that magic in l A can come back.
I'm really fascinated to see if San Fran just runs
away with that division. And what happens with Seattle. I mean,
(28:10):
we know they're taking a nil this week against the Raiders.
How will they be able to bounce back from that?
Going forward? A lot of swagger and that Raider against
Big win over. We did a bunch on the Denver
side of things, and we keep waiting for the sword
of dam Mcles to fall there on Hackett and whomever
else in that organization. Or we'll see if they fire something.
(28:31):
They said the play calling now is fixed, so uh yeah,
and he was quick from what I saw. How about this?
We will find the Nathaniel Hackett, even if I have
to do a dramatic reading where he throws Russell Wilson
under the bus and then backed up and you heard
the beep, beep, beep be sure to catch live editions
of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at
(28:53):
ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific. Chaos in your National
Football League, No, not for um Monday Night Football, the
final forty nine ers surging as we get towards the
stretch run Jimmy Garoppolo, at least for a week, everybody
will stop talking about how mediocre, subpar, dysfunctional all he
(29:15):
wins without throwing touchdowns. He wins. That's all that matters.
Mike Harmon alongside Chris Blank here in for Jason Smith.
Smith on his Hawaiian vacation many years in the making,
and we haven't really gotten deep into jets talk yet,
which is what's a beautiful thing. Psychologically, it's really good
for me. It's so literally this was something he had
(29:36):
planned and then COVID hit and shut it down, right, Yeah,
So it was on the books kind of uh shut down.
And then last year, I forget the convergence of circumstances
to where it couldn't happen last year, so they pushed
it out to this year and and finally they were
able to make it all happen. Jason is a better
man than I whenever COVID hit we had we were
(29:56):
taking the girls to Disney World and I was like,
we're gonna this refunded. Sorry, we're not going back. Daddy
needs to put a little money on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane.
This we can. I'm totally joking, totally been hanging out
with Arnie too much. Yeah, I'm totally joking, but no, seriously,
Jason is a better man than me. Whenever we got
the refund on that one and they're like, hey, we
(30:16):
understand with COVID, I was like, yeah, there's a missed opportunity.
I'll buy you some Bunny years or something. So good Man.
Good on him. You know. I still think if Jason
Smith gets the night off, Mike Harman should get the
night off to just as important. Though. I'm blessed to
get to hang with you tonight. No, I appreciate you there.
I'll get my days. Next month. I'm gonna go visit
my folks down in Florida and we'll uh, We're gonna
(30:38):
go to Universal for a couple of days. We have
a good time. They're dynamic pricing, which I am a
very big fan of dynamics, except when it comes to
kick me in my teeth. No, No, I'm a big
fan of it, like I've never had. Like in our
sports media world, there's so much love of Bruce Springsteen.
I like, don't love Bruce Springsteen. But he came out
talking about the ticket prices for this latest tour and
(31:02):
how mad everybody got at him, and he just came
at it from a very practical standpoint. It's like when
we sell tickets below face value and he he goes,
you can go back. In every tour we did, we
were always under market, no matter the venue, and we
went and did our tours and we played our three
to four hours a night and whatever. This time around,
(31:25):
we've lost a couple of members. We're in our early seventies.
We don't know how much longer we're gonna do this.
People have family things. It's like, why are we letting
everybody else capture the market? Right? So if I put
tickets on Salmon, Taylor Swift got a lot of crap
two where she could have turned on dynamic pricing. You
want to complain about ticket prices, could have done that
if you got through the system. The lowest prices for
(31:47):
her seats here in Los Angeles Chris, we're forty nine bucks.
Oh that's not bad plus your fees, so you're in
for like seventy five bucks. But that's my point. Like
people go to the secondary market and they go, oh,
look what she did. It's like, that's to her. It
wasn't Springsteen this time? He said, okay, dynamic pricing. So
some folks paid five thousand dollars once demand hit for
(32:07):
premium seats and they got mad. And he's like, well,
the ticket brokers, ticket masters, stell ulb, everybody else and
people that got through and bought tickets, they're making all
this money. Not that we don't get a good base,
but why should we give up the three to four
time mark up to somebody else? So what the market
will bear. Likewise, that's how they do theme parks. Now
(32:29):
you see it in a lot of places. Right market
price for if you want a lobster, what's the what's
the fishing looking like that day? This year, the day?
What's the market price? All? And going on down the line.
So I actually might go see Bruce Springsteen for the
first time just to support a guy who spoke some
common sense about the marketplace. Look at you. I wouldn't
(32:50):
know any of his song and I'm kidding. I know,
born in the USA, but I'm with you. I would
do it to support that. But man, I am just
boy media media guys nerd nerd out over two people
that I couldn't care less about, Bruce Springsteen and Jimmy Buffett.
I'm like, yeah, not not really, my guy. I kept
(33:11):
trying to promote the Afghan Whigs and Greg Dooley, uh,
the dearly departed Mark Land again. I mean, that's that's
who I've been stumping for all these times. I see
what you're saying. You're digging deep. I mean, and if
I could get a hologram concert with Harry Chapin, I'm
there too. My hologram's gotta be Tupac. He's the only
one that they did the hologram right for. So that's
(33:32):
not alr I P two PC. All right. For all
you out there, um that love your radio people or
guys like you, Mr Plank working in radio, don't listen
to the song w O L D and tell me
if that doesn't resonate with you. If you're in about
or know anybody in the media business or maybe in
life in general, just as you traverse your career courses.
(33:53):
All right, so we fill the bustard enough with ticketing, uh,
and so much fun because I just had to know
about this vacation for you know that. No, no, it's
all no, no, no, it's all good because it is
a good conversation piece because not often do we disappear
for weeks at a time, so people get, you know,
when when we do, it's like what happened. It's like, no, no,
just vacation actually taking one lots on the books, and
(34:14):
it gives us an opportunity to talk to our buddy
Chris Blank, which is good for me. And then Artie
Spaniard is gonna come in like a wrestler as a
third man. And I'm sure at some point, all right,
we continue, we'll go back into Denver and the comments
from the fan you'll hack it next
