(00:47):
way tire buying should be well. Yes, everywhere you look.
Zach Wilson, the Jets, Robert Sala, Trevor Lawrence Willis, Chris Trefler,
f Evan Ingram, Tebow is trending. Yeah, Gar Wilson fumble
getting it kicked out of his hands. That was just
(01:07):
as it at the time. The most Jets of thing
that is that that I mean, look, I mean you
have the butt fumble which stands for so much. But
that's such a Jets play. I have the first down
on fourth and sixth and somebody falling over doing a
cartwheel kicks the ball out of my hands and it
goes to somebody else. That is such a Jets Oh
(01:27):
my goodness, I really and uh, you know, look after
this game that just gave us all kinds of drama. Uh.
The Jaguars beat the Jets nineteen to three. Zach Wilson
is terrible. He has benched in the second half. Chris
Traveler comes in. Who is Chris Treflick, Ledger asked, he
was just up promoted the active roster today. It's a
guy that was uh in the CFLI when the Great
(01:49):
Cup a couple of years ago from South Dakota. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
He came in him and Phil Jackson, both from South Dakota,
and uh he came into University of sparked the team
of Little Bit. He threw for ninety yards and a
little over a quarter. Zach Wilson through for nine two
yards and about three quarters. He also ran for fifty
four yards. Couldn't put points on the board and the
(02:10):
Jets lose nine to three. Zack Wilson, Zach Wilson, Zach Wilson. Look,
we've told he's done. His career as a Jet is done.
I I assume he would be inactive the next couple
of weeks and they let him go next offseason after
June one, where they're not to pay the rest of
his where they don't have to pay some of his contract,
because that that you can't go back to him. You
(02:31):
just simply can't. You lose the locker room. They go
back to the Jets, and you know, and and here's
the thing, this is what I want to get into
right now, is Robert Salad Jets head coach, following the game,
because he's someone who early on in the season looked
like the job was too much for him. And then
a funny thing happened when Breece Hall started running for
(02:51):
a hundred and fifty yards a week and the defense
really came together. Robert Salo looked like a genius, and yeah,
he was really good. Got the team together and they
were winning. They were seven four. Everything is awesome. Now
the season is over, and I watched him to continue
to make missteps with Zack Wilson, and I he needs
my public relations advice more than anybody else, because he
(03:13):
said after the game about Zach Wilson was not there.
He said, it was not our intent to bench Zack Wilson.
We wanted to get the running game going, so we
put Straveler in a quarterback. I mean, what the hell
does that mean? I want to get the running game going,
so we changed quarterbacks. What the hell are you even saying?
When he asked was asked about Zach Wilson, Robert Salo said,
we haven't seen the last Zach Wilson. You know what,
(03:35):
here's what here, here's my advice for for Robert Sala Dude,
this is not the hill you want to die on. Okay,
this is the This is not where you want to
stand up and plant your flag and say no. You
will not say bad things about Zach Wilson. Everybody knows
he's not good. He's taken. I know he's got receipts, right,
Robert salis guy receipts. Everybody knows he's not good. Everybody
(03:57):
knows he's not going to be with the team next year.
You don't need to rip him because you don't do
that to your own players. At least most guys don't.
Most coaches don't. But when you're asked about Zack Wilson,
blow off the question, say I I gotta go. We
have to look at the film and evaluate things. We'll
have a decision later on. Just do that, because when
you sit here and and and try to prop him up,
(04:18):
you just keep losing the locker room. And you've got
a bunch of guys in that let that like you.
Robert sala Is well like the team plays hard for him,
the defense plays hard, and the players generally like him.
But when you say stuff like, oh, you know, Zack's
gonna get it back. Zach's a kid. You haven't seen
the lads of him. Do you really think those fifty
guys in the locker room right now are sitting there
after what they went through tonight, and they have to
(04:40):
hear you say, oh, maybe Zach Wilson can do it.
They're gonna say, are you bleeping kidding me? Man? What
the hell is wrong with you? You lose the locker
room if you keep doing it. And like I said,
you don't need to rip a guy because players know, Hey,
I don't like he said this about a player, he
said this about me. You can blow it off right.
He sometimes is too too I don't want to say
(05:01):
too genuine, but he goes over the top when he
talks to the press, and that's not one of his strengths.
Right of his strength as a head coach. Talking to
the media is not one of them. Because he says
things just to say them, or just to say that
because he wants to feel like I want to stand
up for a player, I want to stand up for
a situation, or I want to explain something without really
explaining it. It's not his strength. Talking to the media
(05:23):
is not his strength. And when you got to know that,
all right, I gotta limit the fallout from this because
this is gonna be awful. This is the Jets are
front page news right now, and this collapses front page news.
You can't say, oh, it's a great year. No, the
Jets were good. You saw they were good. But you
blew the quarterback position. You couldn't keep your one quarterback healthy,
you couldn't make changes when you needed to, and now
(05:45):
it's bad. But I'm gonna do damage, right, No, just
just blow off the questions about Zach Wilson. Don't answer
anything about the quarterbacks. Say we need better production. We
all give a really generic, ridiculously uh no way answer
and move on and make your difficult decisions behind closed doors.
Because when you say stuff like this, I get it,
(06:06):
I'm standing up from my players. But this is a
results oriented business, right. The Jets mean a lot of
things to a lot of people. The players who play,
the coach to coach, people who work for the organization,
the fans in the city who buy season tickets. You
know Amazon Prime that spent a lot of money to
put that crap on television tonight. The Jets mean a
lot to a lot of people. And you want to
sit here and say, oh, I'm standing up dude, No,
(06:27):
no results or this is not college football. This is
not I'm gonna help shepherd a kid from middle school
to high school to get a scholarship to college. Now
go fly Bertie, be free. This is results oriented and
it's not happening. And I'm sorry, but things need to
be a little bit more colder, need to be a
little bit more exact, and it's tough. Decisions need to
be made. I get it. This is kind of who
(06:49):
you are. But blow off that stuff, man, because when
you say stuff like this in public again, it makes
me think he's not up to the job. Right. I
thought that earlier in the year, I was I was
ready to say, look, I'm long things change, look at
how everything was great. But then Breece Hall got hurt.
The Jets kind of meandered for a little bit. And
now look what happens when they realize their quarterback needs
to win games. Other teams realize it, and they know,
(07:11):
we're gonna make the Jets throw to throw the football
to beatus, We're gonna load up and stop the run
because we know they can't throw the football to win
games against us. Tadda. This is where we are so
again and now I'm back to Robert Solo. The job
is too much for him. I mean this and this
this is just in like this is just like a
three month swing Stevo from it's too much for him
to boy, look at me as the coach of the
(07:31):
Year Canada, to now the job is too much for him. Really,
it's this is this is what happens when when when
you're in the Jets world, this is how it works
with them. But when you sit here and you want
to you want to back up Zach Well, tonight is
not the night from now and with comments. Timing is
everything and this is just not the time to come
up with a comment like that. By the way, I
(07:52):
like that you mentioned how much Amazon is paying for
the Thursday Night package and they've gotten some of what
they want out of it, despite the fact that the
schedule and a lot of the aims have been atrocious.
It made me think once again of al Michael's move
to Thursday Nights, where he got an enormous chunk of change.
It's quite obviously a money grab for a guy who
already had a ton of money. So take that for
(08:14):
what it's worth. I hope you're enjoying your schedule out
because there's no flexing in or out of these Thursday
night games. You're handed what you're handed. Enjoy all of
the holidays with that cash that you could spend from
now to the end of the year, counting more than
we have. I get that, but you got what you
asked for. So I don't want to hear even a
(08:35):
hint on the air of complaints and a lack of
enthusiasm in your broadcasts. And when is this game gonna
be over? Because this was your choice. Meanwhile, when is
this season going to be over for the Jets four
straight losses seven and eight. Overall, I can understand at
least the sentiment from a head coach, as you say,
wanting to support a quarterback, Tonight's not the night to
(08:55):
do it, because it makes the rest of us, including
probably the locker room, as you mentioned, say, I'm sorry,
did you not see the game that was just played
out there? I realized you've seen a couple of three
d year games in the last month and a half
from this guy. Of course, we didn't win any of those,
and he only completed about fift of his passes, so
there is a time to stand up for him. But
(09:17):
after this game with about ninety yards passing, no touchdowns,
one interception, and into the third quarter only three first
downs from this offense, you just can't be talking like that.
I I I want to say, I want to give
him the benefit of the doubt because he's done a
lot of good things. Right, He's coming to a difficult situation,
(09:39):
and coaching in New York is not an easy thing,
and I and and I believe watching it, it's chewed
up so many people. But there's certain things you can
do that are easy, you know, there's certainly do that
are easy to not be able to worry about stuff
like Brian Dable has said absolutely nothing this year. He
has said absolutely nothing. And look at the Giants, right,
(10:01):
There's there's problems with the Giants. There's problems with Sae
Kwon Barkley. He's you know, he's not as good as
everybody says he is. He's he's slowing down now. Daniel
Jones is not really good. Cost him. There's no wide receivers.
There has been problems in the trade Canarius Tony in
the in the middle of the season, but he says nothing,
he gives nothing, and so there's there's no headlines that
(10:21):
become bigger than the team. The consistent, the constant propping
up of Zach Wilson and putting him out there saying
he's our guy. We love everything he's done. You should
see him in practice. You see his confidence. Nobody cares
about what he looks like in practice. Nobody cares about
what you're telling me how good his confidence is. I
watch him on Sunday and Monday, and he's on Thursday
night and he's not good. Right, So I mean, don't
(10:42):
don't foster a storyline or make people think you're not
up for the job, or or or cause some kind
of craziness where where your players are trying to wonder
how genuine you are when you talk about, hey, Zach
is great, be behind closed doors? Is Zach can never
play for us again? But Zach is great. Zach is great.
There's certain things you can walk away from and you
cannot make a story. Sometimes it's it's inevitable if a
(11:05):
player does or says something and wants out, wants a trade,
and something hangs over the team. Hey, you know what,
you gotta deal with that, And that's something that's thrown
in into your lap that you have to figure out
a way around. But certain things like this where he
comes out after a game and says what he says,
if I'm if I played for the Jets right now,
I walk and I go, dude, what are you? What
are you doing? Man? What are you saying? You saw?
(11:26):
You saw how awfully? What? What are you trying to
make excuses and say we have what? Just just don't
say anything. What you make me think that I I
don't I don't have confidence of what you're doing. You're
not right, and and that and and you know he does,
you know he sees everything. But why why are you
taking a story and making it into something big, especially
(11:47):
you know in the media market that is New York.
Any the tiniest thing that happens just gets blown up
and tremendously. Why are you making it more difficult on yourself?
And he does when he when he tries to do
things like this, Just be straight, right. That's the best
thing you can do with somebody in in in any
kind of uh walk of life, whatever you do for
a living. You could say, you could say, I would
(12:07):
love my boss to be really nice to me all
the time. Okay, but you know what is that great
for you? Because he could be nice to you but
saying bad things behind your back, or he could be
saying nice things to you just to play kate you.
But you're not gonna get opportunities, You're not gonna get
a raise. Nobody wants a boss and yells at him
all the time. Nobody wants that. The thing you want
the most is that your boss to be fair and
tell you the truth. That's all I that's all I want.
(12:29):
A right, A couple of job interviews I've had over
the I mean, I haven't had many because I've had,
you know, same jobs for a while, but a couple.
As I would say, listen, the only thing I ask
is just tell me the truth about stuff, all right,
don't I'm I'm a broken, I can handle it. Just
tell me the truth. Don't tell me what I want
to hear. Don't tell me, you know, don't always get
on me for stuff, for stuff that you think might
(12:49):
be because that's the other thing, too, is I don't
want to get on me for something because you're having
a bad day. But I can't say that to them.
I say things like, hey, you know, just don't tell
me everything is great, and don't you know that's problem
with coaches. Coaches stopped coaching because they start venting sometimes,
So you're right to ask for that. Yeah, just tell
me the truth. And as long as you're telling me
(13:09):
the truth, everything is fine. So how many of them
told you you suck? Uh? Well, let's see, I've been
here nine years, nine years now going on. We just
signed again for another few years. So not many, actually,
not many. Sitting ovation thank you, thank you, No, no, no,
what about you? You've been here for the whole nine
years since sitting right next to us. You've been here
(13:31):
for the entire run as well. I'm just here for
the Jets. Man. Well, it is a lot of contents.
Nine years amazing to me about after we have this result.
Jacksonville beats up on the Jets. It was a game
that was not close. Nine three, the final four the Jaguars.
Is that the talking points are accurate. The Jets season
(13:51):
has done. The Jaguars could make the playoffs. Do you
know they have the exact same record these two they
are both seven and eight. It couldn't be a larger
difference between two seasons and maybe two franchises at the
moment in the directions, these two that met tonight are going.
Steve and I don't know if you know this, but
the Jets could have had Trevor Lawrence. I've heard they
(14:14):
drafted number two overall instead a couple of years. Thanks
to Frank Gore for helping us win that game to
make sure we couldn't legend one. Thanks Frank Gore. That's
awesome stuff. The Jason Smith Show is Steve de Sager
in for Mike car I mean, the best thing you
can ask for get the truth. Robert Sali can say
Zach's not giving. It's not good enough. It's not and
you would have more because yes, everybody is knows you're
(14:35):
telling the truth about it, and that's all. That's the
best thing you can do. But instead he winds up
getting himself in all kinds of problems. And Zach Wilson
all this and it's be sure to catch live editions
of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at
ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
and the I Heart Radio app Fox Sports Radio The
Jason Smith Show Special Delivery Steve de Sager in for
(14:58):
Mike Carmena steam Night five of Hanukah. I'll always remember, Hey,
what night did Zach Wilson's career with the Jets end?
It was the fifth night of Monica. I remember it. Well.
That's it's just like instead of lighting the candles, were
blowing them out for Zach Wilson. That's that's what's happening
right now. Oh my goodness. Well, I know the fans
(15:19):
that were in attendance tonight would love to I'm serious.
I feel for people who showed up in that in
the wind and the rain and saw almost nothing from
that offense. I gotta say, Tonight's game, and I'm being
honest with you, it went exactly how I thought it
was going to go, except we got Chris Traveler instead
(15:40):
of Joe Flacco. I thought the game was gonna exactly
like this, and Zach Wilson was gonna stink because he does,
and and we're gonna They're gonna have to go to
it's such a big game. They can't let him, you know,
play through his mistakes like they did earlier this year,
which is a horrendous decision against the Patriots, which another
game that Robert Sale helped help blow that one. Um,
(16:01):
they're gonna have to do it and go to and
go to Joe Flacco, and I really thought, But instead
it was Chris Treveler, which is even more embarrassing because
this is the fourth quarterback that they went to instead
of Zack Wilson. It was Mike White, and it was
Joe Flacco, and now it's Chris Treveler. So I I
really on my bingo card. I didn't have Chris Treveler
coming in. I said, Okay, it's gonna wind up being Flacco.
(16:23):
But tonight went exactly how I thought it was going
to go. It was gonna be a game where the
defense is gonna play well, but not well enough because
the Jets offense is gonna be abysmally. You said they
were gonna keep it close, though, I said, well, it
was closed for a while. It was three three, and
then it was ten three, and then then it wasn't
close after that, but it was. It was close for
a wise the first quarter it was close. It was closed.
(16:45):
But then that's exactly how I thought it was gonna go,
and it did, and and it's not surprising. And again
because now after tonight, you know, I got two more hours,
I'm on vacation. I have to worry about the Jets. Really,
my thing is gonna be refreshing for Korea physical and
seeing what the results when when those results come into
the next day or two correct, because it's gotta be
a rear because he took his physical today and there's
(17:07):
got to be a lot of tests done and results
that come back. It's a big three thirty million dollars
or at steak and you know, does he have a
bad foot, all these different things. That's why I'm gonna
be hitting refresh on Steve because nothing else with the
Jets matters anything. Really, you're saying, it's not a vacation
day for you tomorrow. You're just gonna be hitting refresh
all day forgetting holiday's family thing. No, yeah, well we
(17:28):
will be doing the holiday family thing. But you know,
while someone's opening a present, I can sit here and refresh. Nothing. Okay,
what's going on? Nothing, Frostburg's texting me about something that's
not frosen It just texting me about throw the crew
under the bush. You know, it's it's day in the
holiday spirit, of course, frost Bright. We're texting. It's day
six of Anica. We're texting about we're texting about day
six and we're talking with that. I don't believe that
(17:49):
we're texting about things like that. Uh so listen again,
we'll have more on the Jets and Zach Wilson and
they actually gonna dovetail into we have coming on here.
But um as it is, I want to give my
last because I've had a really big year for Bowl predictions.
I've had a lot of big Bowl predictions come through
in two man, it was It's been a big year.
And and the the Jalen hurts m v P Eagles
(18:11):
in the Super Bowl could carry over to So, Steve Oh,
I'm gonna give you three bowl predictions for the coming
year in the NFL. You're ready now you're talking three
season and the three season right now. I gave you
my first one, which was, Trevor Lawrence is going to
(18:33):
be the NFL m v P next season. You can
see the strides he's making. The only thing that that
the reason this game wasn't a bigger blowout tonights because
of the rain. But Lawrence played extremely well. He's playing
at a high level. He's the guy they thought he
was when they drafted him. They just needed Doug Peterson,
who won a Super Bowl and delups quarterbacks to come
in and say, hey, this is maybe this is the
thing we should have done all along. So, but Trevor
(18:55):
Lawrence NFL m v P next year. Mary told you
Jalen hurt is gonna win it this year. Looks like
he's going too, as long as he's healthy. Uh, Trevor
Lawrence is your m v P next season. Here's bull
prediction number two. And this is where the Jets got
to perk up their ears and go, okay, we gotta
get in on this Lamar Jackson has played his last
game as a Baltimore Raven. He's out again with a
(19:18):
knee injury. Who knows when he's gonna play again. You know,
he is at arms length with the organization. He wants
a big contract extension. The team doesn't want to give
it to him. He wants two hundred fifty million dollars guaranteed.
Because you gave to Shawn Watson two fifty million dollars guaranteed.
That's what he wants. The owner, Steve Bishot, he doesn't
want to give it to him. They're gonna want to
(19:38):
franchise Lamar Jackson and try to play it out. He's
gonna not be down with that. He's gonna be saying, no,
I'm not showing up, and you're trading me. And if
you're not gonna pay me, you're gonna trade me. And
it will be very easy for the Ravens to do.
So what we don't want to pay him, We can
get a bunch for him if we trade him. So
we're going to do this. I don't think we see
him again the rest of the year, and he gets
(20:00):
traded in the offseason, and the Jets should be in
on him and the Steelers everybody that could be possibly
well they're not can trade within the division, but many
teams should be in on him because he is gonna
move on. It's just not It just doesn't go like
this and you wind up staying right. He has said
what he's wanted, the Ravens don't want to give it
to him. And as much as well the Ravens, what
we want to give him money? Well, no, well do
(20:21):
you want to give him what he wants or do
you want to give him what you want to give him? Right?
You know, we've talked to Jason Lackin for many times
that Steve Bischott, he says, I only he only wants
to give Lamar Jackson a certain amount of money. He's
acting as his own agent, which always makes it personal. Right.
That's why I always say, if you're in a position
where you have to negotiate for a contract for your future,
(20:41):
get an agent because it gets really personal and you're
not gonna be able to separate the two sides. No,
so the fact, but even even if you do that,
at least it's somebody else, If it's a family member
who's smart, they're they're they're telling you the what you mean,
don't have exactly know. It's not like, hey, so you
talk to my brother. Yeah, man, like like Porzingis, you know,
(21:02):
and his brother. And this is why Porzingis is an
obscurity right now. It's why you have an agent. The
striking thing that you just said on this prediction, though,
is that you don't think he's gonna play this year
because the Ravens could have double digit wins and be
in the playoffs, and you're saying Lamar Jackson is not
going to be in a playoff game. I don't believe
he plays again. This is now three weeks in a row,
(21:24):
he's missed with a knee injury. There's three weeks left
in the season. There's not been a lot of movement
on it. He's already ruled out again. Is he gonna
play again? And I don't mean this is where suddenly
he's healthy and is sitting out because he's unhappy about
his contract situation. But if he has a knee injury,
right just think about this for a second. If you're
Lamar Jackson, you have a knee injury, woman, you want
(21:47):
a long term contract. If you come back and play
and you get hurt. What happens, you still get all
that much. You already have a team that doesn't want
to pay you already and you yeah, and you only
have about four or five more years left, honestly, because
once he gets thirty, Uh, it's gonna get It's gonna
go downhill. Pretty fact. What happens quarterback? Yeah, that's what
(22:10):
Newton actually stayed longer because he was a bigger guy
that could put punishment on defensive backs. We can protect.
He didn't have his legs though. He wasn't special anymore,
right exactly, So you only have a certain amount of time,
he said, Am I gonna come back and play and
risk a big time knee injury where now maybe I'm
out into next season? Yeah, I don't know about that.
(22:31):
I I don't know that that's what I want to do,
especially if I'm not sure if my future is here
with Baltimore. He's played his last game as a Raven
and he will be on a different team next year.
The Ravens will finally decide we gotta move on. He
doesn't want to be here. We can't we do the
franchise thing. He's not gonna play under the franchise tag.
We'll get a bunch of draft picks, will start over
a quarterback, and we'll we'll do it a different way.
(22:53):
He's on a different team next year. Okay, this is
two big bold predictions for NFL. Now, let me give
you this one here. Ask me another quarterback and I'll
give you the destination for him. Next season, the starting
quarterback for the New England Patriots is Zach Wills. Next year,
(23:14):
the starting quarterback for the New England Patriots is Kyler Murray.
He's got the injury that's gonna keep him out. Awhile
Bill Belichick knows he has to move on from Mac Jones.
Everybody knows. He knows. If he wants to continue coaching
in New England, he's got to win more games. He's
got to sign some players that have a little bit
(23:36):
more talent than the guys he's signed over the course
of the past. Cub Belichick's friends with Nick Saban, and
Saban's quarterback, So of course this is gonna work out, right,
he looks and he's gotta go big game hunting for
a quarterback. If he doesn't, there's not gonna win. And
and so I I don't think he wants to leave
the Patriots saying, hey, I'm done and the end was bad,
(23:59):
and that's people are gonna remember. Forget about all the
wins and look at the end, Look how he mismanaged
the team. It really was Tom Brady's uh team all along. Right,
It wasn't Belichick. It was Brady who wound up doing
responsible for it. He knows. He tried it his way.
He tried it with mac Jones and bringing in guys
under the radar and giving big money the guys like
John H. Smith and Hunter Henry. You know, he knows
(24:20):
he needs a quarterback, and Kyler Murray is gonna come
a little bit cheaper because he has the injury. And
also the Cardinals are in a position where they're gonna
have to blow it up, right, there's gonna be a
new head coach there, and Kyler Murray has always been
kind of an arm's length with the with the Cardinals
again to begin with. So you're gonna have that, and
you're gonna have the questions about when he's gonna be
(24:41):
able to play again. Is it better just start over
and get a quarterback in the draft, and the Patriots
will swoop in. What's the first thing, Bill Belichick said
after the Patriots beat the Cardinals when Kyler Murray got
hurt first, his boy. I feel awful for Kyler. He's
a great player. It's awful when something like that happens.
He never really talks about players on other teams. And
it's good that he went out and he said something nice,
(25:02):
because look, you felt bad for the kid. Ob anytime
somebody gets hurt, you feel bad, unless it's punters. Sometimes
he goes on, he goes off on odd position players.
But oh yeah, yeah, Like if you asked him about
Johnny Hecker, he would forget it, would just go. He
would go for like days and days and days. But
he wants he wants a he wants that mobile quarterback
that can make plays with his legs and his art.
(25:22):
It's what he wants. That's how he wants to win games.
He wants to with a quarterback. Like that's why I
went out that got Cam nude. I think I can
do it with Cam Newton. Still didn't really work. Kyler
Murray will be the quarterback of the New England Patriots
next season. I how I I just don't see that
in a practical NFL front office way. I don't see
how that happens. It's the it's the Cardinals, right, But
(25:47):
that makes it that's what you know, The fact that
he's got his new contract actually makes him easier to
trade because teams know, Okay, this is what we got
to pay the guy for the next few years. Right,
it's not well, when he becomes a free agent, what
are we gonna have to pay him? You can guess
and say, well, maybe he's gonna be we gotta pay
him thirty two million a year, but it could be
thirty eight couldt What if somebody signs for a big
(26:08):
contract in the next year and and suddenly his price
goes way up. What if he plays incredibly well and
his price goes up even more. Um, you know what
you're paying him. So so that's okay. And he's young enough,
he's good enough that with a team that can coach
him really well, he can be a star player. The
Cardinals will trade him New England. They're not gonna care. Hey,
we're trading a guy all the way to the a
(26:29):
f C East in New England. Stinks anyway, What are
we worried about trading him there? For they're gonna be
the team that's very aggressive because they know they can
get him a little bit cheaper, and the injury is
gonna be a big part of it. We're okay. Whenever
he's ready to play for us, and whether he plays
the beginning of September, middle of October, the Patriots will
be more than happy to have the next five years
(26:49):
of his career, which probably the last five years of
Belichick's career most likely if he stays for that long.
But Kyler Murray quarterback of the Patriots next year, and
the Arizona Cardinals draft a quarterback of the future this year,
they'd be able to move up in the draft. There's
a lot of guys out there. Look, the Cardinals tried
to make it work for the last three years with
this incarnation of the team. They tried to sign veterans,
(27:09):
They tried to pair guys with Kyler Murray, and it
didn't work. They melted down at the end of the seasons.
Kyler Murray did not play well at the end of
the seasons. He's a trouble staying healthy. Do you want
to go forward with a guy that's already got a
couple of serious injuries got No, we can move on
from him and get a couple of first round draft
picks or whatever the hall is going to be, and
we can move on from him. We can move on
from our head coach and do it. We get a
(27:30):
clean slate in Arizona, which is what they need, and
the Patriots get the quarterback they want to restart the franchise,
telling you Kyler Murray Patriots next year. The Arizona Cardinals.
This year, by the way, one and seven at home.
Guess who is hosting the Christmas Night game as they
go opposite NBA with three NFL games because Christmas is
on a Sunday. This year, Arizona hosting six and eight
(27:52):
Tampa Bay for the Sunday night football game. By the way,
there are only three teams in each conference that are
already eliminated from the playoff chase. NFC, it's Arizona, Rams
and Bears already eliminated, and now it's three in the
a f C, not only the Texans, but the Broncos
and now the Colts. After tonight's result, Cults are officially
eliminated from the playoffs. Do you think the NBA is
(28:14):
gonna try to add a game late at night? Hey? Hey,
you know what that no one's gonna watch that game.
We got Cardinals, what do you yeah, yeah, yeah, Hey,
let's move the Knicks game too late. Let's let's let's
do late night NIX on Christmas Day. Let's you're talking
about the Tampa Bay Bucks. You're gonna be hosting a
playoff game. MR. Six and eight or nine. Someone's gonna
(28:34):
get a home game out of this, out of that division.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon Special delivery. Steve de Seger
in for Harmon tonight, and we got more off at
(28:54):
Thursday Night. Football coming up in a couple of minutes.
But this we continue to celebrate the illustrious career won
Chris Traveler, former Minnesota Golden Gophers recruit. Yes, and we
are shoveling dirt on the career of Zach Wilson. Yes, yes,
we're doing all of these things. But this is just
so amazing. Out of the NBA, it's it's it's insane.
(29:15):
The Western Conference right now, the top five teams all
have nineteen wins. The difference between first and tenth place
is four games. That is, that is your Western conference
in the NBA. So all of those teams you mentioned,
(29:36):
they're all at the five mark. Are more even tenth
place is a five hundred team. If you're the Timberwolves,
you're saying, oh, man, we're in tenth place. Man. Wait
now we're only four games out of first. Wait we're
still right there. Man, Everything is perfect for is We're
only only four games out. Man, this is fantastic. And
Memphis has had great stretches. New Orleans doesn't have Dian
(29:57):
Williamson this weekend, it appears, But Phoenix is not the
first place team. The Clippers look good when they're healthy.
There are a lot of options for the top three
seeds in the West this year. I'll tell you it is.
And you know, this is the thing is that I
don't I don't believe that this is. Boy, the West
is loaded. I I don't look at it that way.
(30:19):
I think the West has come back to the pack.
You know the fact that nobody usually we have teams
that are playing well and not running away with it.
But you know, we got teams by now, we're thirty
games into the seasons. Yeah, yeah, there there are teams
that are that that are that are figuring things out.
And hey boy, they're out to a big lead. Uh,
it's gonna be tough to catch them. Whether in the
(30:40):
past it was Phoenix or somebody else or Utah, whatever
I mean, now it's you know, look, I'm happy because
I picked Denver in Memphis in the Western Conference finals
are the top two teams right now. But they're separated
from the Pelicans by a half game, and the Suns
by a game, and the Clippers by a game and
a half. And the Sacramento Kings are in sixth place,
you know, the only two games out of first place. Um, yeah,
(31:02):
I'm not buying the West. I'm not buying this is
one of those boys. These teams are great and they're
cannibalizing each other. Now, this is a down year of
the Western Conference and and you're gonna get a team
coming out of here to play one of the teams
out of the East. And I'll tell you what if
if you took one of these teams and put them
right now up against the Bucks or the Celtics, it
would be the Bucks or the Celtics in a sweep
and I don't know the end of that. Could beat
(31:23):
the Calves if I don't know, everybody could beat the
Nets at this point. But as as hot as the
Nets are, if you had the NBA Finals with anybody,
anybody you wanted out of the Western Conference, No, it's
it's all in the East right now, man. The West
is kind of in the East. Cleveland's won five in
a row, Phillies won six in a row. Nets have
won seven in a row. In the West. The Lakers
(31:43):
are they are what we thought they were. It's thirteen
and eighteen. So in an era where most of your
conference gets into the postseason, ten of the fifteen teams
get in because we have that little play in remember
the first week, and the Lakers probably are now even
gonna make that. And at the moment, Golden State wouldn't
even make that because they are under five hundred and
(32:06):
to repeat, the top ten teams in the West are
all up to five hundred mark or better. Yeah, which
makes you wonder. Boy, the Lakers, man, they're real championship struggle.
You know. You look at the standings in detail and
it says Lakers are O and seven in the division.
My first response is the NBA still has divisions. It's early, Steve,
(32:28):
It's early. It's not even January yet. There's only two
teams that haven't won a game in their division, the
Lakers and the Pistons. It's early. Worst team in the East. Really,
it's hard. It's hard for me to buy who's the
best team in the West. You know, throw a dart,
Throw a dart. Pick a team not not without a
d they're not throw a dark Pick a team. Well,
Denver can be really solid. So once you get to
(32:50):
playoff time, you picking a team like Denver, that's not
a bad pick because when you have a walking triple
double and you add what they have when healthy around him,
that's as good as any other team in the West.
I know Phoenix is flash here because when Bookers on
he's ridiculous. He's really good. But Denver solid. Denver is
(33:11):
But I think you have solid teams, right, They're all solid.
Denver is solid, Memphis is solid, and Sacramento is gonna
make the playoffs this year for the first time in
a couple of decades. Solid solid. I didn't say solid,
but they're gonna be a playoff team this year. Twitter
at out about a fresco. Steve is at Denver is
(33:32):
solid on Twitter. He's just changed that that's happened there.
Uh so again craziness in the Western Conference. But coming
up next we get back into the biggest story of
the night bar none from the Direct dot Com Studios
