In a few minutes, we had all the latest on
the Bears potentially trading away the number one pick in
the draft. Carson Wentz, is he done? Will we start again?
And don't say? You know? I don't care if he
say Jets. The Jets aren't gonna get him. The Jets
(01:07):
aren't gonna get him. It doesn't matter. You know what,
I'm a powerful and attractive man. I can speak this
into existence. Yeah, I don't think magical powers, dude, you
could have magical powers for lots of quarterbacks. Not gonna
help Carson Wentz. Not good, but it's against the Jets.
It wasn't. It wasn't helping Carson Wentz. How's that helping
(01:28):
Carson Wentzes? Hey, go to the Jets. Who else is
gonna high or well, it's gonna sign him, nobody else,
nobody else. You know what, he'll he'll end up on
an NFL squad that's not the Jets. And even if
it was the Jets, he's still better than Zach Wilson.
It's gonna be hard pressed to sign a guy who's
not as good or better than Zach Wilson. That's the
thing you forget about in Free Ancient? Is that boy?
(01:50):
Who are the jetskin of? If they get this guy, yeah,
I'd be disappointed, But at the end, I'm gonna say, Okay,
if I'm disappointed, they signed you know, Derek Carr or
Ryan Tannehill. They're all better than Zach Wilson's hashtag. It's
not Zach Wilson is really what you're Yeah, I get that.
I mean it might flow chart. Did the Jets make
the right move at quarterback? And then you have the
(02:10):
arrow going down? Is their starting quarterback Zach Wilson. Yes, No,
if you go to know they made the right move, Yes,
they did not make the right move. That's how it's
gonna go. You're so giddy about these weeks ahead. We've
got the NFL Combine this week. Yeah, dude, I'm sign
the chaos that flows out of that. How big guys
(02:31):
hands are, how much they eat, what kind of answers
they give to bad questions? Who's gonna throw? Who's not? Oh? Yeah,
we're getting there. Man. Well I mean most of the
quarterbacks are gonna Yeah. Well that Bryce Young isn't. And look,
I get Bryce Young. I understand people not working out
at the combine. I completely get it. Why would you
unless you need to amp up your draft stock, I
(02:54):
don't know why you would do something like that. Probably
number one overall, Why is he gonna throw? I'm a quarterback.
I don't need to go to a bench press. I'm
not lifting guys. No, Like there's a bunch of stuff
like that. It's like beat it. Look if you're if
you're a quarterback, let's say who's outside the four guys
that are in the top ten, right, let's just say that.
Let's say you are Hendon hooker. Right, Let's just say
(03:15):
you're head and hooker who has all kinds of talent,
but he got hurt at the end of last year
and he needs to show teams that he's healthy, he's strong,
and he can be drafted. If I'm him, yeah, I
throw I work out because I do something to try
to raise my draft stock. But if I'm young or stroud,
or why am I doing that? Why? All I can
do is just boy, wasn't that great here at the combine,
(03:36):
which is a foreign environment, and it's not your own
workout day, it's not your own pro day. Go and
meet with anybody you want to. I would go there
and saying this is my time to do the the
the business aspect of and say, hey, I want you
know what kind of person you're getting in me. And
I do all the interviews, I talk to all the
teams possible, But I Am not going to work out
if I don't have to. If I can do nothing
(03:57):
but lose status. Why would I do that. I'll do
all the interviews. That's why I don't like when guys
don't go. I'm not gonna go, no go, because you
can help yourself even if you're not gonna work out.
So I would do that. But unless I need to
do it to help my draft stock, no, I'm not
doing it. Not doing no, no, no. Look, the guy
that look people can sleep sleep on the Hendon hooker.
(04:17):
If he wants to not do anything, that'd be great
for the team that eventually selects him later in the draft.
You don't want any part of this combine? No, Yeah,
well you go and want to fall away from there
with your height, your weight, You walk in, you shake
some hands, kiss some babies, do whatever is required. And
(04:40):
even then I'd be challenging the system, just like all
those guys that should still be fighting about how many
years you gotta be out of high school before you go? Wait?
You want me to wait. It's like when you go
to a doctor's office, you ever tell him to meet it.
I'm like, you don't need my weight for what I'm
in here for. Get my eyes, check damn it, leave
me alone, Twitter and out about a Fresca Mike and
(05:04):
swollen down The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon. Uh.
Now again, we'll have more NFL coming up in a
few minutes with Jason Locke and for But big news
in the NBA today, And maybe you saw Lebron James
putting up the profanity and then his picture on his
uh Instagram account. The Lakers fear he's going to miss
multiple weeks with a foot injury he suffered yesterday against Dallas.
(05:28):
He just landed kind of wrong on it. Initially thought
he landed on someone's foot when he was trying to drive,
but it turns out the replays didn't show that. And
now Lebron's going to be out for what is being
called multiple weeks. And when you only have twenty two
games left, twenty one games left, suddenly multiple weeks is
half the rest of the season of your regular season career.
(05:50):
And and in the short term, yes, obviously there's the
easy topic of is going to affect them, how they're
gonna wind up um getting into the playoffs still, but
I'll tell you if they win three in a row
without him, watch him be ready to go on Monday
against the I guess Sunday against the Warriors on National TV.
The ABC game Sunday is Lakers Warriors. The Lakers win
these next three games Tomorrow, Wednesday, and Friday. Yeah, look out,
(06:11):
He'll be back on Sunday going. I'm feeling good, I'm ready,
I'm ready to play, You're ready to go, ready to
look at me, look at me? My footfield is going
to red and John Roy. Yeah. Ready to be sure
to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with
Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific.
But the thing, the big thing about this is that
(06:32):
I feel like today is that day seeing that picture
of him and all the confluence of circumstances with the
end of the All Star Break, Lebron breaking the record,
of breaking Kareem's record, and him saying, hey, here's the
most important twenty three games of my career. All right, great,
And they're off to a really good start after the deadline,
that the big comeback win against the Mavericks yesterday, They're
(06:54):
feeling pretty good. And now ups Lebron's out for a while,
maybe half of the rest of the season, maybe the
rest of the season. We have no idea I feel
like today is the official day of the beginning of
the end of Lebron James's career, now that it's going
to be a fast end, that it's the beginning of
what is the end game, Like we're in the final
(07:14):
chapter of his career and we can I can see
the end of his career much more clearly than I
ever could, because even when he was still being hurt
with the Lakers and you know his thirty five, thirty six,
thirty seventy's still playing great, still playing great. But now
we have four years of data with him with the
Lakers and he just can't stay healthy, right. I mean,
we talk about this with Zion Williamson all the time.
The guy can't get on the floor. Lebron can't stay
(07:35):
on the floor. He's missed at least a third of
all the Lakers games and every year he's played now
and now he's going to miss even more, right he is.
His body simply cannot stand up to the riggers of
the NBA anymore. Because these are not injuries where Lebron
is in a scrum and he breaks a finger or
he winds up banging an elbow with somebody. These are
(07:58):
like the soft tissue injuries and things that he can't
come back from, and when he does get hurt, it
takes him a long time to come back. So I
look at this is the beginning of the end where
we're now in that we're in the end game. We're
in the final chapter, and it's either going to end
one of two ways. Lebron says, I only know one
way how to play. And he comes back and he
tries to play thirty five thirty eight minutes a night,
(08:19):
and he's on and off the court for the next
year or two, and then he says, you know what
I'm done. My body will let me do it anymore.
Or he takes load maintenance to a new absurd level
where he definitely sits out the one end of the
back to back games and plays less than thirty minutes
a night every night no matter what. Like he starts
the game, he comes out of the game at this
time every night, he goes back into the game at
(08:39):
this time every night, So we can play twenty nine
minutes of thirty minutes and you're not overdoing it with him,
Like unless he takes it to an absurd level like that,
he can get another year or so out of things.
But we're definitely in that end game now and seeing that, hey,
he put everything into these these less twenty three games
are great, and now who knows what he's even gonna
be around for. You can't count on him. You can't
count on him to be healthy for the playoffs. You
(09:01):
can't count him to be healthy because it's like Zion,
except it's you know, it's Lebron and it's and it's
you know, he's thirty eight and not twenty two. But
I don't I don't know that there's anything left to
say for Lebron but that okay, let's just see how
much longer he has until his body just breaks out,
because that's what it is. It's his body not being
hell because he was a healthy maybe with the healthiest
people in the history of sports, until he got to
(09:21):
the Lakers and southern with the Lakers, he can't stay healthy,
he can't stay out there, and he's injured every year.
And now it's come to the point where you're thirty eight,
thirty nine years old, how much more time do you
really have left? Like tonight with that news, he's he
can't even make it to the net, to the last
twenty three games of the season. This is when you
start looking at Okay, the end of his career is coming.
I can see it more clearly than I ever have. Well,
(09:42):
like we always I mean father Time undefeated, right, the
cliche thing that in this case, Father Time's kind of
toyed with him a bit over the last couple of years.
You got one title, Never take that away. But there's
been a lot of pain, a lot of misstime. And
then we can get into the debates of how much
of that is in j versus extended load management that's
(10:03):
already been in place, right, long vacations and things of
that nature in the past, and it's bought. It's bottom
time along the way. Right. We always wonder or I
do with with cal Ripken Junior in terms of his
performance late in seasons. We're talking about his performance, his performance,
(10:24):
but but just pulling in the fact that since the
guy played through all these injuries and never took a
day off, and I mean, that's great work ethic, but
did that come with some lesser at bats or opportunities
to make plays in the field in September or during
stretch runs? Not that they were competitive, but might they
have been otherwise, who knows with a healthier cal ripken
(10:47):
ju see what I did there. I just trampled all
over the way. It didn't work ethic and go watch
Iron Man, Mike. You just walked all over him. Well
I did that a long time ago too, so I'm
just revisiting my own takes. But the idea would braun
and even going for to pass Kareem's all time record
playing heavy minutes, some losses, a lot of losses, team
(11:09):
that's struggling, and statistically it looked great, and there were
some nights where he had the efficiency was brilliant as well,
and then he couldn't finish that game. They lose the OKC,
and we've been waiting with the sort of damocles the
last couple of weeks off of that, haven't we because
he talked about how much it had been bothering him
(11:32):
a couple of weeks prior. And now we get to
this moment and where you're missing significant time, perhaps Operation
shutdown comes into play. So it's just a question of
how long a tail it is at the end, because
I think we've already been in that slow runoff because
(11:52):
of the miss games due to injury over one hundred
here over the last couple of years. But also the
idea that you've had him had to play hurt and
play all those minutes. Those add up. You can't you
can't go in like you know, you're a crooked guard
dealer and turn back to the odometer. Yeah, it's it's like,
is Lebron gonna decide? Okay, I'm just gonna go for
(12:12):
it the next couple of years, and I'm gonna play
whatever I can. I'm gonna play by last year worth
brawny and I'm done, or I'm like, no, I really
want to get to forty thousand points and I want
to maybe play a year after that. Maybe there's a
little bit else out there for me, depending how I finish,
and and I can do the load management thing and
get another year or two and play till I'm forty
one forty two. But but that's how it's ending. I mean,
(12:33):
you can see the end. You can see it coming,
and it's coming sooner than you think just because of this,
And it could be even sooner if he winds up. Hey, okay,
I can't get back on the court. Now. What happens
in the fall, Something happens at the beginning in the season,
early part of the season. I still can't play. You
get frustrated and say, oh, you know, sometimes it's I'm
just done and it's not worth it anymore to me
because I'm finished and I'm I've played my last game
(12:55):
in the end. Are you okay with being the artists
formerly known as or taking the old Toby Keith song
which I'll let you finish the lad Oh, I'm just
as good now as I once was, when I ever
was as good as I was when I was good. Right,
that's a song with the thing and the guy in
the place. Yeah, that's the song. Right, I'm sure that's it. Hey, guys,
I don't know if you know this, but the Lakers
(13:16):
are back. You kind of buried the lead, I think, Jason.
So everything else you said for the last thirteen minutes
is around. It's a great relevant schmon battle. Baby. We
got Vanderbilts still. He will lead us eighties, dropping ninety
on the Memphis a beginning of the end for Lebron.
(13:40):
Today was the day we saw it said, Okay, now,
it's just it's just coming. They're in that last chap.

It's a live I have never seen this before. In
the long version version is gonna throw a brand More

is what Reggie White used to do to people. Forklift
(14:44):
on it. Yeah, yeah, I know they're true. I was
really waiting for Jimmy Butler myself. I was waiting. Finnish
twenty eight makes a shot, makes him one hundred ninety
nine over the Sixers. He would later add another prethrow
one on one ninety nine, your final over thirty nine
and twenty one, Philadelphia's Empty's Sara's waiting for Tony Roman
to go? Jim, Jim? Did you see the out of
that game? Jim, Jim Jim? Could you believe that chip?
(15:06):
What we're working to get the super cut of Romo
excitable highlights, But no, now here is the play of
the n That's it. Josh Hard, He's six and oh
as a New York Nick and the nicker Bockers win
their last two meetings with Boston. How about six straight wins?
Final score Tonight one, nine ninety four the Knicks over
(15:27):
Boston without Jaylen Brown. Yeah, Nicks Radio Network on the call.
The Knicks now lead the Celtics two games to none,
and their best of seven series. Game three is Sunday.
Josh Hart is your real MVP. Jalen Brunson may come
in second undefeated the Josh Hart era. I hope Jalen
Brown's all right. Miss the game for personal reasons. Lowry
(15:48):
Byrd was out with a hurt back. Tatum you know,
was followed on a three point shot by Julius Randall
didn't get a call and was incensed and he should
have been. Got gott shit, did nick? Yo? Here come
the Knicks. I'm telling you now, buddy. You got upset
at me earlier when I told you the Bears the story. Today,
(16:09):
the Bears are gonna trade then likely leaning towards trading
the number one overall pick in the draft. They have
many teams calling them, and kind of knew this was
going to happen because I told you the Bears are
stuck at number one. They're afraid to take a quarterback
and trade justin fields because it backfires on him. Everybody's
getting fired. They're afraid to keep justin fields and not
(16:29):
get a quarterback because it's justin fields. Stinks well and
everybody's getting fired. So we're gonna do the and go
down the avenue of the least amount of criticism. That's
we're gonna trade the number one picks so we can
at least shrug our shoulders and say we had a quarterback,
we got more picks, didn't we do the right thing?
And they're gonna hide behind that. The Bears are afraid
to take a big stand and make a big decision
(16:50):
on fields. Or the number one pick. So you're gonna
trade a second, just back away from and say not
us too rich for our blood, can't do it. One
man's fears another man's pragmatism is a real quote. No,
it's what I'm coining right here on fis all right,
very good going fear. I say, well, it's the best
of the options, as it were, a trade back, Maybe
(17:10):
trade back again. Jim Ersey riding a bear in that
cool nineteen sixties picture he put out there, let's go
huge to wants to come get a guy great, have
at it. Carolina wants to jump up from number nine. Cool,
go get it and give up a bevy of picks
and maybe a viable player or two in the offing.
(17:33):
Yeah it look everything's been on the table. The fear
factor is is kind of a new hot take Harry
on it. I like it. Though, I like it. I
just think it's more pragmatism than we're gonna be found
out as frauds, because remember, the other guy's got extra
years even after twenty seventeen. And sure, biskey Mahomes, but
(17:54):
you have you have a chance to reset the quarterback clock.
Get a guy that might be a franchise guy. But
you might have a friend guy now, right. But that's
the thing, And here's what it comes down to for me,
is why I think I've said for a while now
they should trade. Justin Fields said since the beginning of January,
been talking about this. Congratulations everybody else who just jumped
on the topic. By the way, is that Justin Fields
(18:15):
is really good this year? Right? He was good? It's
Justin Fields great. Nobody can say yeah, or we really
think he's on that path to being great. It's we're
not sure. We got to give him another year. That
tells me, Okay, if you're not sold on him, that
should be your decision. Okay, let's take Bryce Young then,
because he may be great. He's the consensus number one
people want to move up to number one. You got
lots of teams calling you. I think that should tell
(18:36):
you something about the league thinks about Bryce Young. But
in the end, the door is still well, I mean,
he's the best of this lie and in a quarterback
desperate league, what do you do you go and say
that's the guy who we want. I mean, there's no surprise,
right because I think the consensus, except for some that
are starting to put Anthony Richardson in there is odds
have shortened as the number one pick possibility here as
(19:00):
we get to Indianapolis, where Derek Carr will meet with
several mystery teams allegedly and the Jets would like to
talk to him again. But as far as the Pisco, look,
whatever path they choose, you live and die by it. Right.
It's when why defended the deal that they made with
San Francisco when they went and got trubisky, Like, if
(19:21):
that's your guy, yeah, you lose, you get fired. Or
in Chicago they wait until your contract runs out. Some
beauty of it for these guys. Oh, I'd love them
to be bold, but it said they're kind of being
a little afraid. They're being pragmatic. Build a team around.
You got one hundred fifty million dollar ward Chess. You
(19:41):
got Kevin Warren coming in. We know nothing else. He
knows business, he knows the Big Ten and know yeah,
all the everybody from the Big Ten coming into the Bears.
He's gonna love that. All right, So let me ask
you this now. Tomorrow is Tuesday. Yeah, it's normally Aaron Rodgers,
Pat McAfee. Do we get big Aaron Rodgers news tomorrow.
Do we get any big news? No, but he he
will describe the Darkness Retreat. Maybe he learned how to
(20:04):
play the sounds of silence while he was in there.
I'm gonna say we get absolutely no news. He's not
on the show tomorrow because if Pat McFee says he
hasn't talked to him since he went to the Darkness Retreat,
and he keeps us, he keeps us guessing no news
from Aaron Rodgers tomorrow. Yeah. I thought McAfee just posted
a picture of him and his wife on vacation, so
(20:26):
that might be, uh, you know, the secret option. See
of it all, there's no Pat McAfee show with Pat
McAfee twitter at, How about a fresca? Mike has swollen? Dumb?
My buddy Ben Maller is coming up next, Metsio
