tire buying should be Now, Steve, I did think of
one thing that I would be sad about if Aaron
Rodgers or if when when at Rogers says tomorrow on
pas McAfee show, I'm going to be a jet There
is one thing that made me a little said one thing. Okay, yeah,
what could that possibly be? We may not have time
(01:09):
to do true TV or not on the show tomorrow night.
If Aaron Rodgers becomes a jet, we might not have that.
You know, they're gonna be carrying nancay A tournaments all
week long, not just tonight. You know you can hit
it another night, right that game? Yeah, but we got
we you know, once Thursday comes, you have the whole
day of games, and Friday it gets a little tougher
(01:32):
then it does. It's a little more packed on Thursday
and Friday. Yeah, this you know that because as much
as hey, listen, hey, that's great that Mississippi State and
pitt are playing right now. But okay, the big crowd
in Dayton they always support Hey, hey he actually went
to sacation. I actually went to Daton on vacation once,
and um, I cut the grass and you you needed
(01:59):
to mow someone long for extra cash on vacation. No, yeah,
I helped my uncle cut the No, no, no, no, no,
you know you know what it was. You know what
it was. It's it's funny. I went there the weekend
of U when the Islanders played that incredible overtime game
against the Capitals back in eighty four. Yeah, that off
on tane scoring and like Quinn Tupple, overtime came up
(02:22):
until you know, yeah oclock in the morning to watch
that fifty seven overtime. So a little hockey, a little
cow tipping, and you went home. No, no, just just
hockey and then and then just uh cut that. That
was a long game. That's pretty much the whole vacation.
In other words, that was it. Yes, it was it.
My well, my aunt had moved to Dayton, and so
we went there to visit them, and we drove out
(02:43):
and uh, we spent the weekend and then we came back.
That was it. And you cut the grass, Yes, and
I cut the grass. There's not much else to douce there,
you no, no, you know, now that I think about it,
I don't think I should have had to cut the
grass there. I don't think it's a vacation. Yeah, it
wasn't my house, but I the grass. How about like
I'm a nice person and this is a relative. No,
(03:03):
that is true. I do think that. Yeah, okay, so
maybe they installed some actual values in little Jason Smith.
Hey see look at him, he's cutting the grass. Do
you think about values? Not just glad I got him
to do it and said me having it. I do
think Jason Smith as we head toward tomorrow show, and
you're convinced that we're going to find out literally everything
about the Aaron Rodgers situation during the day tomorrow. Mike
(03:26):
Florio says, the Packers are willing to wait until the
draft if need be, to trade Rogers, if that's what
it takes to get what they want, because he's habitually
absent anyway from the early phases of the offseason program.
It's not as if he'll be in the building anyway
between now and late April, and he has a very
manageable cap number all the way into September. Yeah, but see,
(03:47):
here's the thing the Jets. If it doesn't happen, the
Jets are gonna say, Okay, screw you, and then good luck,
because there's good luck for both of them. There's nobody
else in on Aaron Rodgers. That's the thing is, there's
nobody else. Who do the Packers think is gonna suddenly
materialize between now and the draft. They're not gonna say, oh,
not only do we want Aaron Rodgers, now, we're gonna
(04:07):
give you even more than you could have got we
could have got from a month and a half. Who
would who would the Jets have a quarterback. This is
mutually beneficial Zach Jacoby Brissette. Just watch the Jacoby Brissette
error will open and it will be fantastic. Now, look,
I'm glad you asked me. I'm glad you asked me that,
because Zach, if they don't get a quarterback, right, let's
(04:28):
just say something happens and it is the Jets, It's
glad you never know. Let's just say Aaron Rodgers decides
I don't want to go, right, Let's say I don't
want to go. If that happens, I don't see that happening.
But no, no, it's not happening. But let's just throw
it out there instead, because Frostburg is so so let's
just throw it out there. Let's have to throw it
out there. Uh, if they don't get Aaron Rodgers, who
(04:53):
have they lost out on so far? Every they really
lost out on a quarterback to the like boy, Yeah,
but there's but there's lots of those guys. There's lots
of those guys out. There are fewer, but yeah, literally,
anybody you bring in will be an upstate over Zach Wilson.
So you just look for the next PJ. Walker keep
scouting the XFL USFL season's about to start, and I
(05:17):
was I did get a There was a little twinge
of concern when Taylor Heinik signed. Today, I'm like, oh,
we would have been somebody that who's actually played a
playoff game, right, But but that's down. They haven't missed
out on anybody, all right. Derek Carr really Derek Carr,
really Derek Carr. Derek Carr could have had that was
supposed to have this long free agency tour and talk
(05:37):
to so many teams. What happened. We had would do
what he did, which was signed before free agency began,
because once that happened, nobody else was gonna want him. So, yeah,
Derek Carr was not really sought after. So if the
Jets don't get Aaron Rodgers, there's gonna be plenty of
guys out there to go get. They can go, they
can pivot to Ryan Tannehill if they wanted to. They
can even show up and say, okay, hey, we would
(06:00):
had to pay Aaron Rodgers, like one hundred and ten
million dollars next two years. What you have to pay
Lamar Jackson, Well, you know, two hundred and fifty million.
The next four years. Oh well, but why not we
don't get up draft picks? Right? All right? What two picks?
Two picks we could do. That's a little bit much.
Let's go get at Let's go get Lamar Jackson. There
are other players out there and Matt Ryan four o'clock tomorrow,
yeahs even out there anymore? Theets are screwed. Stop, yes,
(06:24):
and then they'll go sign Carson Wentz. Yes, that's a
loon Wentz. If this is this tells you how bad
Zach Wilson was? Is that? That's what I mean. Anybody
the Jets bring in is an upgrade. Anybody they bring
in an upgrade. So if they go get somebody who
like a Ryan Tannehill, that's an upgrade. Right. If they
wait and go get Jacobe Brissette, that's an upgrade. I mean,
these guys are all upgrades. They're all better than Zach Wilson.
(06:48):
So just by just by default, they're going to be
better at quarterback ruin the day when you had Geno Smith.
But there's nobody else that was out there that I
can say, Boy, I wish they had gone out to
get him. Because the free agency class this year is
just a the big prizes. Aaron Rodgers if he okay,
is a trade and he is, and that's who the
Jets are in on, right, Lamar Jackson if you can
(07:09):
wind up getting him, Okay, he's another, but he's not
someone you can just go out and sign and make him.
You need certain dominoes to fall. And now you needed
the Ravens to say we're gonna franchise you, but not exclusive.
You need a lot of things to happen. When you
were talking about the free agent quarterbacks, the guys are
gonna hit the board. P J. Walker Day Tuesday, Wednesday,
David Bow There was nobody. They could go get Cooper
(07:30):
Rush and he would be an upgrade over Zach Wilson. Anybody, Yeah,
anybody is out there. There's nobody. He's out there, right,
even he's better, even better that This is how bad
Zach Wilson was. Anybody they want is an upgrade. So
they haven't missed on anyone. And it's not like I
would rather have them say, Okay, let's go get Jacoby
Brissette for two years and twenty million dollars. Let's say
(07:52):
and we give him fifteen million up front. Whatever it is.
Then to be stuck with Derek Carr for three years
and seventy million convinced Chad Henny to come back. Somebody
called him. So I saw today somebody called chet Eddy
to find out if he was available on the Jets.
Could have been the Jets. It could have been. But no,
there's nobody the Jets have missed out on. There's nobody
anybody has missed out on a quarterback. Derek Carr is
(08:12):
just okay. He's just okay, Right, that's what it is.
The other guys are signing her backups. No, it's not
Flacco Flacco unsigned, it's not. Yes, but is he still elite?
We're gonna ask that question. Is Joe Flacco still elite?
He'll start three for the Jets. If Aaron Rodgers tomorrow
goes on Pat McAfee show and says, you know what,
I've had a lot of ayahuascati or iya hused, guy,
(08:33):
I've had it all, and I've decided to not play
this year. I'm not retiring, but I'm not playing. And
I'm gonna sit up if that happens. The Jets are
no worse off than they were a few days ago.
I can't say that. Oh there, I go oh, we
if we had know, would have went and got Derek Carr.
Really who the first time he gets hit in the
football game as a different quarterback. No, they didn't miss
(08:54):
out and they haven't missed out on anybody. And the
quarterbacks that are out there are just okay. So yeah,
whatever the Jets backup plan is, I know what's gonna
be fine, because again, is the quarterback's name, Zach Wilson.
If the answer is yes, ni naing. If the answer
is yes, you're in trouble. But if the answer is no, anything,
everything is fine. Whoever they signed is gonna be You
know who's killing it in the XFL is Ben d Nucci.
(09:15):
So I get in line now, Oh, that line behind
Ben da Nucci starts behind Joe Douglas. He's way too
good to be a Jet. Steve. But but no, but
and look, and we're talking about something that's not gonna happen,
because tomorrow Aaron Rodgers is going to be a Jet.
So that's going to happen. Yeah, I can't believe Frostburg
they signed Alan Lazard today. He said, Jacobe Brisette to
(09:37):
Alan Lazard is going to be epic. I want you
guys to come to games. And they played the Gazard
and Marcedes Lewis and Odell Beckham Junior and and Randall
Calavernius calls and they went out and so I missed
Lavernius calls. He was good. Then they went out and
they signed Alan Lazard. He's going on Pat McAfee show
tomorrow at one o'clock Eastern time. He's not going on
(09:58):
here to say I'm not playing, I'm not going to
be a jet. I'm not. Oh, I pull it over
on the Jets. But I got Altla's art paid. So
that's great for four more years. Congratulates it. Now he's
gonna be a Jet. It's gonna be there, and it's glorious.
We can't mentioned often enough that this is timed to
coincide with the NFL's league year starting tomorrow afternoon. Free
(10:18):
agency begins tomorrow. All this week's trades become official tomorrow.
All teams have to be under the salary cap by
tomorrow four pm Eastern time. Everything starts tomorrow. The interview
is on purpose tomorrow. He's making news. He's not just
there to say hi. Tomorrow, Aaron, listen, Steve, I would
come and tell you this the NFL league year begins.
(10:40):
When Aaron Rodgers says it begins, that's right, because than
the league he is. He says it begins tomorrow. So
it begins tomorrow. That's what it is. So if he says, okay,
league meeting end of the month, let's switch it to
New Jersey, then then they kind of all pack. Now
it's not going to be in Arizona anymore. Everybody, change
(11:00):
your flights, change your hotels. Aaron Rodgers, who runs this
league and runs the narrative certainly running through the NFL,
he says, we've changed sites. He listens the power that's suddenly,
so let's change that around a little bit. All right,
let's make that work a little bit differently. That's how
it's gonna go. He's gonna be this is everything we
(11:21):
hate about the NBA and player empowerment end quote. Right. Yeah,
but he's been doing this for three years. It's not new.
I mean, he's been doing this since he decided. I
didn't say it was I didn't say it was new.
I said it's bad. Yeah, Well, he's a player. He's
making no commitment even beyond this year, Steve, but the
chief doesn't deserve therefore this power. Well, but this is
(11:41):
also a team that's ready to move on from him.
This is not where Hey, I'm screwing you this again,
saying they had a chance ready for it to move
on from him and had already drafted his replacement before.
Get ready and go. And I'm okay with that because
I have Jordan Loved a couple of dynasty leagues. I'm
excited about love play. Do we not remember the game
against the Chiefs. We're never going to get those three
(12:02):
hours back in our lifetime. It was a horrendous display
of footage. Yeah, no, it was. It wasn't It wasn't good, Steve,
he's watching Jets games, he's used to it. I'm saying
I could trade Jordan Love now. So that's gonna be fantastic.
Easy makes a moves for him? Are you kidding? That's
gonna be terriffed. A J. McCarron. How about a J McCarron.
He's in the XFL. Are you just looking up XFL
quarterbacks now? Seeing work weekend? So I see these box
(12:26):
scores sometimes. All right, here's the things. All the guys
you have said have all played better than Zach Wilson.
In the NFL. Just think about that for a second,
because McCarron had that little bit of run when we
thought he was going to be a starting quarterback playing
the playoff game. You know, Benda Nuci played a little
bit for the Cowboys, and he wasn't as bad as
(12:46):
Zach Wilson. All the guys you're throwing out there, I
think even Paxton Lynch is having a big year of
the x L. Yeah, Tim Tebow's tearing it up. Yeah,
hey hey, well and Zach Wilson's career. Right, So, yeah,
it's happening tomorrow. But if it doesn't, the Jets are
in no worse position than they were today because there's
(13:08):
no other guys out there to say, oh, we had
to go get this guy. We didn't get them. It's fine,
Everything is good. Everything is coming up, Jets. It's so exciting,

John Paul Morossi following the WC game on FS one
(14:17):
that he's on right now. You know what's going on
right now as former met Taiwan Walker just blowing him
away for Mexico. Eight strikeouts in his four scoreless innings
end to four one nothing Mexico over the Brits. Does
the Czech Republic have a no hitter again? I want
to make does that China's out? Nickout? We're almost to
(14:38):
the to the quarterfinals. In fact, six am Eastern time
is when the quarterfinals begin, because some are in Asia. Yeah,
that's early. That's too I would say, you know what,
that sets too early. We need to play these games
aday FS two. The Cuba game at six am Eastern
quarterfinal against Australia tomorrow, Japan's quarterfinals early Thursday morning against Italy,
which is managed by Mike Piazza. And they still have
(15:00):
the an espresso machine in the dugout like they had
the other night. How could they not pretty cool? That's
really worked for them. Yeah, I mean listen, because let's say, hey,
I got a stay up later for these games. Now,
oh I got espresso machine at the time difference. Yeah,
go for it. Yeah, that's nice that I said. No
that that's got to be some kind of fun. No, no, no,
that's actually real that an espresso machine in Steve has
(15:20):
Team Israel added Ike Davis to the lineup yet. No,
but Jack Petersons been batting leadoff for Israel. You needed
Ike Davis last night, that's for sure, Israel guy. I
think a shortened game that I saw it today. Yeah,
they tweeted out we tried. They lost ten nothings to
the Dominican Republic. I mean, come on, these lineups that
they're going up against, it's not even fair. But that
makes the pitching more amazing, because you had that kid
(15:44):
from Nikara who struck out three All Stars in his
one inning, and he looked like I mean they said
he was nineteen, he looks sixteen on the mound, and
he gets the spring training contract with Detroit right after
the game. Yeah. But but then on the on the
flip sides, you had that kid for Canada was two
days ago, that nineteen year old kid. Hey, you're gonna
start against United States. Hey, this is the best lineup
(16:06):
in the history of the game. Yeah, go ahead, good luck.
They made the point on the telecast. You know, this
is probably the first game he's ever pitched that's been televised. Yeah.
I felt so bad for him. Hey did you see
who there? You know, Mike Trout is on this team. Yeah,
good luck, good luck. Yeah, And you said he gets
(16:26):
a call from the Tigers like that was a good thing.
That's amazing. It's almost like he walked off the mound
after one incredible editing superstory and gets a deal. Good
for you. A big game tomorrow, by the way, Dominicans
against Puerto Rico winner going home for each FS one
seven pm Eastern. All right, so yeah, we'll catch up
with John Paul Morossi following the game tonight. Man. You know,
(16:48):
maybe he maybe he's got an espresso machine that he's
gonna be up late with us as well. He's gonna
need it because he's been working hard. Or we'll just
grab Mike Davis. That's true. Yeah, that's true. Something team
is couldn't probably probably not that busy boy. That could
be a hot take like tomorrow on the blocks, Davis.
Why didn't they call me? They could have used me.
Where was I? I'm a I'm a WBC hero like Davis.
(17:10):
Why couldn't they use me? Uh No? The main thing
with WBC is is the same I think the same
thing for everybody. Just nobody get hurt, right. And then
there was the Canada game today. Yeah, Walker might blow
his arm out here, but yeah, yeah, it's it's tough, man,
it's tough. First caseman Freddie Freeman with Canada left with
what is called a slight hamstring injury, but they said
at the same time he's not expected to play tomorrow,
(17:32):
and tomorrow is kind of a key game to advance. Yeah,
so let's talk about just where the level of importance
is the WBC. Oh, hey, Freddy twit? Yeah, okay, so
Freddie's not playing. I just got a phone call. Freddy's
not playing for us tomorrow. Who called you, Dave Roberts?
Who is that? He just called me and said Freddie
can't play? Who is that? I don't know, I don't
know who that is? All right, carries more weight than
(17:53):
Aaron Rodgers in the NFL. Yeah. If Canada wins its
first round finale tomorrow afternoon against Mexico, it will advances
to the quarterfinals. So we'll have more on that coming
up through. As long as they don't pitch the nineteen
year old got well in the yea yeah, or don't
put him out there against the best lineup that that
he's ever thought, Yeah, put him out there. It's like
(18:15):
Mexico has Julio Arias pitching the opener from the Dodgers,
and then who else have they had? They've lost some
tough games, well until having Taiwan Walker tonight, of course. Yes,
so far now you just chink Taiwan Walker gonna get
hurt now, Wow, I'm just chin He's gonna give up runs.
You're like, chinks them to get injured for us. No,
I said, he's going to get hurt. Yeah, I know,
(18:36):
now you throw that out there in the unit. But
four innings and done. You know how there's a first
round pitch limit in this Yeah yeah, no, true, true. Uh,
he's right about sixty five pitches. He's done the four innings?
Is it all right? There? All right? So that's good?
A right, he's he's he's done for the night pitch.
Everything should be fine. Let's just cross our fingers for everybody.
Uh now. Earlier today in the NFL, we saw another
(18:57):
big day of free agent moves, and we got into
this a little bit last hour. One of the big
moves was the Raiders trading Darren Waller to the Giants
in exchange for a third round pick. So just picture
you're Jimmy Garoppolo for a second. You're like, oh man,
I'm excited. I'm showing up. Everything's gonna be great. I'm
gonna band the ball. I'm gonna hand the ball to
Josh Jacobs. Right, I got Davante Adams, But Davantage said
(19:19):
he wants out now, No, no, he'll be fine. Right then,
I got Hunter Renfro. Things are gonna be awesome. And
I got that great big tight end Darren Waller. Oh,
I'm gonna throw forty touchdowns this year. And the next
day you hear a Darren Waller got traded. B we're
signing Jacoby Myers. Okay, that's good. See Hunter Renfro could
be on his way out. How can you keep track
of any of this? You're you're Jimmy Garoppolo going okay, wait,
(19:39):
so what that guy's gone? Wait he's staying. We signed
this guy in It's like it's like the Raiders have decided,
all right, we went from just win baby too, Hey,
just win baby, but if we could save some money,
let's try to do that like that. That was never
it hasn't been for a couple of decades. It's it's
think about what the Raiders have done in the last
two days. They went from we're a team that has
(20:02):
great weapons and skill position. Right, you look at the
skill position I talk about quarterback, running back, top two
wide receivers, tight end. The Raiders up until today, in theory,
could compete with anybody in the NFL. Right, I think
the the Niners had the best group of that because
you're talking about McCaffrey and Samuel and I you can kittle,
(20:22):
but you know, the Raider you're talking about bringing back
the NFL's leading rusher, one of the top three receivers
in the game, Hunter renfro will probably I'll have a
bounce back here. This guy's a pro bowler a year ago,
but he got hurt, had a concussion. He was in
and out a line up a lot last year. Okay,
but now you trade Waller and you signed Jacobe Myers,
and now it's a whole different thing. And I just
(20:42):
feel like the Raiders are just making moves to make moves,
you know, and we're finding a way to save money
in the process. We had a third round pick, we
trade Darren Waller. Okay, I get it. But in the end,
it's it's where have you gone from the end of
last year to right now? Have you gotten better at
your skill positions or have you gotten worse? You know
you've not worse because Jimmy Garoppolo is the same quarterback
(21:03):
as Derek Carkas that Jimmy Garoppolo can't stay on the field,
So that's there tight end now when he's in the game,
now you've gotten worse, right, You're running back is the same.
Now your wide receiving corps is Okay, it's Adams, and
then it's it's Renfro. But now it's no, it's Adams
and it's Byers and it's not Renfro. And is that
a big upgrade or not. Look, Renfro's a guy. He
was a pro bowler. Jacoby Myers is a nice player,
(21:24):
but he's not really dynamic. You know if he was.
If he was, some of the Patriots really wanted to keep,
they would have found a way to keep him, because
Belichick finds a way to keep the guys he wants to.
So I look at the Raiders and it's like they're
just gonna always Raider. I mean, like I'm saying to myself,
I can't ever fall for anything the Raiders do again,
because no matter what they do, it's always gonna wind
up being a lot of the same stuff. And I
look at the moons they've done the last couple of days,
(21:45):
and I go, they haven't really gotten better. And you
can say they've gotten worse the skill positions where they
were pretty good up until the beginning of this week.
Now you mentioned Hunter Renfro. This guy has a contract, right,
and not just for next year. So this is another
trade you're looking out for, yeah, because they want to
save money. So now they're they're looking and I already
saw today that actually yeah, yeah, he wound up going
(22:06):
to the Saints, but and reuniting with Derek Carr. That
gets me two point number two when I remember who
had cap space and who did not. The Raiders had
as much cap space as the Giants to start the
month a lot, right, So what is going on here?
What are they gonna do? It's not like you just
signed someone to zillion dollars per year. What's going on? No?
(22:28):
And I'd like to be able to say, well, oh
now they're gonna go get They're gonna go get Aaron Rodgers.
It's finally gonna Oh no, wait, we gave Garoppolo that money.
Oh crap. Yeah, we can't get out from that, can we?
So I mean, what are they doing? I mean, what
are they're gonna Where are they gonna go with his money?
They gonna decide, and they can't go for Lamar Jackson again,
they just gave Garoppolo money. If they were saving this
money to go for a quarterback. I would get it
(22:49):
because there's a big part of me that thinks the
Rams are gonna try some kind of hail Mary restructuring
these deals. And you know, they made a big trade
already with Jalen Ramsey to try to get money out
there to go get a quarterback. Got more than a
couple names. Yeah, but but they can find a way
to do that if they if they move on, they
can save money because the Rams have done this before.
The Rams have done the craziness of hey, where where'd
(23:12):
you find this money? Oh, don't worry, we got but no,
butter how I don't understand like the Niners always used to, right, Yeah,
if the Rams were doing like I could see if
if the Raiders want to do something where we're going
to get rid of this money because we're going to
get a quarterback that people aren't thinking about, like we're
either gonna go for Lamar Jacks 're making a trade
for this guy. Uh, then I then I'm then I'm
(23:32):
down with it. But you already just Jack Cone. They
are looking at Jack Cone from the XFL. You spent
the money on Garoppolo, So what are you really doing?
I don't like I said the Raiders are always gonna Raider.
They're saving their money for what Who else is out there?
Do you need to give a big contract to All
these big contract guys are gone. Now what are you
gonna do? You gotta spend it on something. Yeah, I
(23:53):
mean Mark Davis knows you can't keep it. You gonna
spend a certain amount of money right now. Oh I
can't just keep the money and rolled over the next year.
I don't know what they're doing. Can we just realistically
take an examination of the Raiders as a franchise and
as a front office the last say five years. It's
a very very much family organization with one guy as
the face. Right. His dad had a lot of success,
(24:16):
He not so much, and he's cash poor. So he
was even ready to go in with the Chargers on
a stadium in moving out of northern California. You recall
that sharing a stadium with a division rival would have
been an option for them. Instead, he lucked into an
absolute sweetheart of a deal to get a new stadium
(24:37):
in Vegas, no less, and had the state of Nevada
pay the bulk for it. And you've had the turnover
with the front office, the disaster with the coach hire
and now what exactly where is this team? What have
they done in the last twenty years, but specifically, what
have they done at all to impress you in recent years?
Raiders are always going to radio. You know. I felt
(24:59):
for them. Can't tell you how many times in the
last five No. Now, Oh, I like what they're doing,
and it's gonna wind up making paying dividends for them.
And sometimes what they do works out great, but it
always ends the same, It always ends the same with
we look like we don't know what's happening. We got
to blow up some part of the roster, we got
to move on from other players, and we're a team
that perennially disappoints. You think we're gonna contend, but we don't. Oh,
(25:21):
we're gonna contend, but we don't. I am never falling
for the Raiders again. I don't care who they go.
They can they can make a trade tomorrow and they
could get Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes and Austin Eckler
and Jerry Judy and Courtland Sutton and they can get
all these guys and suddenly, and I would still say, Yeah,
they're gonna screw it. Up. They'll find a way to
screw it up because they're the Raiders. They didn't get
(25:41):
Judy from Bbama. They get Rugs from Alabama, so they can't.
They just can't. They just I mean, really, that's the
way it always ends the same. And I don't know
what they're doing trying to get out from this money.
For you, remember the Raider game last year with the
passing back and forth on the final play and oh,
my goodness, it's in the shifter where I actually gonna
win this game and he runs it back the other way.
(26:02):
It's this is the Raiders, and that's the Raiders whole
franchise in reverse the last twenty years. It's like he said, Okay,
we got it now. No, my goodness, we do not
have it now. Because I'll tell you because I talked
to a couple of people a couple of weeks ago
that I really trust, that that have their ear to
the ground in the NFL, and they said that the
Raiders plan was it Tray Wingo. It was not Trey
(26:24):
Wingo was not Trey Wingo. Wait, t tray Window tweet again?
Did he tweeted the deal is done? Did he tweet
the deal is done tight Tray Wingo to do it,
and both both those people said to me, the Raiders
plan was Tom Brady. It was Tom Brady, and that
was the only plan. And then when Brady retired, that
kind of screwed everything up. And it goes back and
(26:44):
you think about how it makes sense that, well, all right, yeah,
they want to show Brady, they want to get him.
They benched Derek Carr at the end of the season,
which really doesn't make sense. But then in retrospect, it's okay,
now we're showing you we're gonna move on from him.
We want you to come here. And then Brady decided, no,
I'm gonna retire rather than go play for you. See
what happens when you put all your eggs in one
basket Jets. I mean, it's yeah, but it's not like
(27:07):
they had. Listen, it's not like the Jets had a
great basket that they had they decided we gotta keep that. No,
the other basket at holes in it. It was an
Eastern basket with rotten eggs. It was it was moldy,
there were the eggs were cracked. That chocolate was was
white chocolate and not regular chocolate. No one would want
to eat that. It was a basket with Jason Williams
white chocolate. The guard was from the Miami Heat. There
(27:30):
was candy corn in there left over from Halloween. No,
it's a bad basket. That's a that's a basket nobody
wants in honor of the great Mike Leach. That was
a bad basket if it had candy corn, the bad
candy card. The Jets did not have another basket, so
it's okay if you have another basket, that's another basket.
Jets had no basket basket and the Raiders don't have
money for another basket. No, but good luck, good luck
(27:52):
trying to fit it doesn't matter. What I'm saying is,
don't try to understand the Raiders. Okay, this is this
is I feel the movie that one best Oscar everything
everywhere all at once. Right, go into that movie and
understand that. Okay, I'm probably not going to get all
of it, and following it and knowing everything going on
is just going to frustrate you. Just go in and
(28:13):
go with it and you'll and you'll enjoy it because
then it's a really fun movie. But if you go
and try to understand and going wait so wait, wait
so this, wait, wait, so this You're not gonna like it,
But you said the word enjoy. So that's the difference
with the Raiders. Well, the other fans of the other
teams will enjoy that the Raiders, and they do buy
the tickets after all. In vague, yeah, exactly, it's all
(28:33):
the hey, I gotta go. Hey. The worst they are
the easierness for me to get tickets. So that's all fine.
So just don't try to understand the Raiders. Just appreciate
with whatever team they put not on the field, and
you see how it goes. It's always gonna be drama.
There's gonna be fun stuff to talk about, but don't
try to understand it, because no one can really understand.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
(28:55):
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeart Radio
app Fox Mark Radio. The Jason Smith Show with my
best friend Mike Harmon, Steve to say, you're in for
Harmon tonight. And while it is Aaron Rodgers Eve, we'll
have more in Aaron Rodgers coming up in a few minutes.
It's also Lamar Jackson. Eve as you can talk to
(29:15):
Lamar Jackson for the first time tomorrow, right, maybe Aaron,
maybe we get an offer sheet. Maybe, but it come
of course complicating things is he's his own agent. Yeah,
and that's the whole thing. He puts out a tweet.
He breaks the silence that he's had the last few
days about his contract situation. When Adam Schefter reported that
(29:39):
the Ravens wanted to give him all kinds of money
and it was up to one hundred and seventy five
million dollars guaranteed. We had first heard it was one
hundred and thirty three million guaranteed. Wouldn't appreciate that. By
the way, if I were the team that the player
immediately just goes to tell the world, Yeah, yeah, exactly.
But when you don't have an agent, this is what happens.
And so Lamar Jackson puts out that tweets saying that
(30:00):
the information was wrong, that it was one hundred and
thirty three million guaranteed, and that's what he was offered.
And this is someone who wants more than the two
hundred and fifty million that Deshaun Watson got at the
end of last year, and He went out on social
media today and he said was one hundred and thirty
three million not what they're saying, and I need an
agent with an emoji after Um, here's the thing is
(30:22):
I get where and where Lamar Jackson's coming from. I
get where he wants to get paid. I understand this,
But yeah, the dude needs an agent because an agent
not only helps you negotiate your contract and make sure
it's not personal when you're not getting the deal you
I mean, this is exactly it's. This is what you
(30:44):
pay an agent for. Yes, an agent does your deal,
but he also makes sure it's not personal between you
and the team or whoever. And so when you're negotiating
over money, it doesn't get personal because it gets that way,
and it would in any negotiation. If you're negotiating against
a company, they're gonna say they want to pay you this.
It's a hard line and you walk out of there
(31:05):
going I don't like the way that my manager looked
at me. I don't like that. And there's always going
to be ill will, right, So there is that, but
it's a different part of it for Lamar Jackson, and
it's not just about hey, let the guy handle the
money so things will get personal. Right now, Lamar Jackson
is a huge unknown for the rest of the league.
What does he want all right? What makes him tick?
(31:26):
What is he really after? Nobody knows because you can't
talk to him, and he's acting as his own agent,
So nobody knows this guy. Well, I don't know. Maybe
he wants a cup, maybe he wants this man. I
have no idea. He's not getting a huge amount of
sympathy because we don't know what he really wants. He
was offered a contract, and yes, we could say it
was a low ball offer, but nobody really knows what
(31:48):
he wants, and part of that is what scares people away. Yes,
the injury history is a big deal, but when you
have an agent that can talk to teams and say, yes,
this is what Lamar wants to do this, you make
those teams feel better about potentially getting in business with
him and signing him and having him be your quarterback.
But when you can't do that and you don't know
about a guy, can you really if you're an NFL team,
(32:09):
can you say, hey, I'm ready to give Lamar Jackson
all of this money. Do you know him? Not at all?
Have you talked to money about him? Not really? What
about his agent doesn't have one? He's the agent, Okay,
So are we ready to give this money? Nope, Let's
move on and go get j Kobe Brissette. So I
understand exactly why there's that trepidation around Lamar Jackson, and
having an agent would have been able to help his
(32:29):
and his situation entirely across the board if he had one.
And there's really, in my opinion, only one reason not
to have an agent, and that is you get to
pocket the fees. Right, you don't give away the whatever
percentage except the money that you're talking about that you've
already missed out on far exceeds anything you've saved by
doing it yourself and not an agent. And listen, before
(32:51):
you signed the next contract, you've already goofed this up
beyond recognition as far as what we talked about, you
the athlete being in the room as the agent, and
how ridiculous that is, how bad for you, the player
that's going to be Look no further than baseball this offseason.
The guy who won the Cy Young in the National
League a couple of years ago, Corbyn Burns shows up
(33:12):
to spring training with the Brewers and said, yeah, I
was at the arbitration hearing, and you kind of find
out what they think of you and your true value.
And it's tough to hear. It's tough to take. It's
really hurt my relationship with the team. Hello, I mean,
this is, this is and he's gonna make ten million
this year, which is not bad for a pitcher. Just
for the record, this is a horrible, horrible road he
(33:33):
continues to go down. I feel like there are a
hundred reasons why Lamar Jackson has made the bad decision
in this front. And when you see his relationship crack
with the Ravens acting as his own agent and you
see the relationship fracture, if you're the new team, you say, well,
this could easily be us because he's gonna act as
(33:54):
his own agent. Now, can we be able to navigate
this successfully? I mean, this is the team that drafted him,
brought him in, made him a starter, may became the MVP,
and and he's gonna wind up leaving that team. I mean,
he has really hurt himself by representing himself. He doesn't
see it yet, but eventually he will. But he has
to why you need an agent to tell you? An
agent tell you. I'll tell I need an agent. I
(34:15):
always knew what I needed one time. And then Nicks
have taken the lead. Before we get to the top
of the hour, more of Lamar Jackson, and more on
Aaron Rodgers how tomorrow he will be a jet and
it will be fantastic Fox
