We're going with it. Okay, that's fine. Oh yeah, after Poison? Hey,
(01:07):
can you play Bill Biv devot? Can you play Can
you play this so I can I can dedicate? Yeah? Yeah,
wait what do you want to say? No, I'm not
gonna say that. I'm not gonna say that. I don't
need to say anything. There's just to introduce a song.
How about I just dedicated to Jennifer from Jim. Okay,
how about that? Would I just do that? Is that okay?
Can I just say? Okay? That's it goes out from

Slash match. Well, the Lakers have crawled back into the
(01:51):
Game of the Year in the end, Tysha, we need
something when I update the Lakers and Clippers Game year,
we need some kind of really official, serious sounding sound
effect that hey, hey, we're talking about something really big here.
I do like when we had that one thing we
did for I don't know what watch it was, but
we're like wow, wow wow wow wow. Oh yeah, the yeah,
yeah wow wow wow. Was that for that was the
(02:13):
original sounder for a current affair. Yeah, that's yeah. It
was wow yeah wow wow wow, some kind of sound
effect when I say that's good. So I said, hey,
update on the game of the night and maybe the
game of the year in the NBA. Wow wow wow
wow wow wow. Tisher's gonna do it live until he
finds a drop out it live. Didn't he do it
(02:35):
live all those times? Anyway? Does he liked yelling it?
He might yet, I think he. I think it was
a live drop forever. I don't know that he ever
actually rolled the original into I actually never did the system.
Wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow. Uh.
Lakers have crawled back into it against the Clippers. Clippers
(02:57):
got out to a fifteen three lead. That's kind of
what the Jets record is going to be this year.
But now twenty three to eighteen, four and a half
to go in the first quarter, it is Austin Reeves
with five points to lead the Lakers. Meanwhile, for the Clips,
Russell Westbrook don't laugh, Russell Westbrook has eight. So the
Clippers and Lakers, this is a game that I can't
(03:21):
under I can't overstate the importance of this game for
the mediocre part of the standings in the West any
more than I can right now. The winner of this
game will be in sixth place and out of the
playing round. The loser will find a tough time trying
to stay out. Wow. Wow, the loser goes into fire. Yeah,
the loser. The loser will have to worry about the
(03:43):
Pelicans and the Timberwolves, and the loser goes on the fire.
Now this basketball cup, I said this yesterday and I
really thought I breathed oxygen to this. So maybe this
is my fault? Was I told you this lsu Iowa
getting invite it to the White House? Story is just stupid, right.
The only reason it got attention is because it came
(04:04):
on the heels of what was a serious controversy, which
was how Caitlin Clark's trash talk play was okay, but
Angel Reese's wasn't. Might wait a minute now, way, so
it's okay for the white girl to do it when
a black girl does it, that's a bigger deal. That
was a legit thing. This whole doctor Jill Biden wanted
to invite Iowa to the White House. Okay, you know
what that is. That's a bad optic, Right, we told
(04:27):
you that's something that many things in politics need to
be thought out a little bit more, right, But that
happens every day, and this was not something that was
done subversively. Do you really think that anything a president
or First Lady or any politician wants to do is
cost themselves votes by any way if something appears, oh wait,
we didn't mean that for that to be the attention.
(04:47):
Do you really think that's the case? No, of course not.
This was something that just should have been thought about better. Hey,
let's invite both teams. I get it sportsmanship, but you
gotta understand the winning team gets to go. And that's
kind of how it is. And I said it stupid
because that's not the real that's it, but it's amped
up because of the important controversy. Now, this whole White
(05:09):
House thing got even more stupid after what Angel Rees
said on a podcast about the First Lady, because this
didn't just start about how LSU and the White House.
They're a little upset with how the White House went
by things because now LSU and angel Re said, I
don't know if we want to go. Angel resaid, I'm
gonna go to the Obama's for our celebration. You know,
(05:31):
I'm gonna go see Barack and Michelle like, okay, wow,
that's the president of Okay, that's fine. So now okay
they going? Are they going? All? Right? Now, you're really
amping this up and it shouldn't be a thing. But
listen to this, because apparently there was a bit of
a bias that LSU had against Jill Biden before the
National Championship game. This is Angel Reach from a podcast
(05:54):
earlier in the day. Didn't you guys speak to the
first lady? No. Apparently she was supposed to come to
our locker room before the game, but we said no
before the game. Yeah, they're also she was supposed to
come to our locker room and go to Iowa's locker room.
I don't know if she talks to them. I don't
know if she did, but we said we didn't want to.
We didn't. We didn't want her come to a lock her.
(06:14):
I think Joe Biden had put somebody else to win
a National champions She didn't. He put us on his bracket.
That is the stupidest thing. That is the stupidest thing
in the world. That's just stupid. You didn't want to
talk to the first lady, not because she didn't pick
you in a bracket, but because her husband picked somebody
else in a bracket. This is the first lady of
(06:35):
the United States wants to come wish you luck, but no,
Joe Biden didn't pick you in a bracket, so you don't.
So you didn't want to talk to her, and now
you're mad that she wanted to talk to the other team.
Wait a minute, I don't understand. That's like saying, I
don't want to go out with this guy. Why would
I want to go out with this guy. This guy's
he's I don't like him at all. I don't know
he didn't pick us to win in a bracket. Okay,
(06:56):
I'm gonna ask this other girl out. Well wait a minute,
that's not right. Why I asked other girl? Well, you
should be asking me out. So before the game, they've
already had had had an anti Jill Biden thing because
Joe Biden didn't pick LSU to win the national championship
in his bracket. That's what it was. We don't want
you to come wish us good luck. This is just stupid,
(07:16):
And now I feel like LSU is just you know
and an Angel Reese like embodying this controversy. Now it's like,
now we're making it into a into a big deal
when it's just stupid. And honestly, if I was if
I was given advice, I would say, Okay, you know what,
just you gotta let this go. Now, you gotta let
this go. You proved your point. The big controversy was
Caitlin Clark and you in the trash talking, and I
(07:38):
really think that that came out the way it should
have been. People knew who was wrong about that and
that and that turned out. Well this this is just Hey,
I found a way to keep this story going and
to keep people talking about us and and me talking
about it. I mean, that's just I mean, really, that's
just stupid. It really is. I mean, you don't want
you don't want the first lady to come see you
because her husband didn't pick Okay, that's fine. I think
(08:01):
that's a ridiculous reason and one of the most ridiculous
reasons you could possibly have for not wanting to visit
from the first lady. But okay, but then don't get
mad when she wants to have the other team. Okay,
because doctor Joe Biden is coming around going wait, l
U doesn't want to talk to me. Uh no, sorry, sorry,
Madame Flotus. No, well why is that because Joe picked
like Michigan or somebody to win it all? Oh okay,
(08:22):
well I'll well if Iowa, I'll go talk to Iowa.
They want to talk to me, So let's go talk
to Iowa. You can't, you can't have it both ways.
But I feel like that's why this is just getting stupid,
because this whole thing, this, this is if it was
stupid yesterday, boy, it has just jumped up in stupidity
today just in a thousand times has it jumped up? Well,
I mean, as we always talk about it, you can't
fall to good strategy. This keeps her name in the press.
(08:45):
She did put out a limited edition to LSU Jersey
that you can buy if you want to hunt her
socials a little bit earlier, so anil deal and and
pumping up bank accounts along the way as well as
your profile. And if and if you're gonna lean into
the everybody disrespected us, why not taken a step further
all the way back to bracketology. Yeah, so I wonder
(09:11):
didn't did she ask Barack Obama what his bracket looked
like before accepting. Did you have a swinning at all? Hey,
did you have a swinning at all? To no, I
don't talk to you about it. Look, if this is
who she wants to be, I can't falter right And
if the snub from Joe Biden was in any way
on the giant pie chart of life two percent a
(09:32):
one percent point one percent responsible for fueling and fantastic
evert in the final against Ihowa and the hell with it.
She got what she wanted out of it, and now
it's a story that continues to have life breathed into it.
At some point, the media will move on to something else,
perhaps because the Lakers are hard back, or Russell Westbrook
(09:56):
gets his revenge game. I don't know what it is
what takes the news cycle next. Lamar Jackson or your
guy Aaron Rodgers will actually do something. But for the moment,
Angel Reese is the headline. I wish we were talking
more about her terrific performances and what the team was
able to do and rally and blowing Iowa out, But
(10:17):
you know that's falling to the wayside at this point.
Uh be petty be spiteful as it were. If if
that's how you want to run through it, claim the
disrespect and just own it. And that's what she's doing,
so I can't fall to it. For that. I applaud
her for it. Be consistent what you are. I think
it's an interesting story. How could you play excited? How
(10:38):
could you play disrespect when it was LSU that were
the ones who started was saying, yeah, we don't want
you to come visit us because you your husband didn't
pick us to win the national championship. Okay, really so
that's that that that that they're the ones that you
started it. That's how stupid it say. I'm gonna you
started it. You started, I didn't start it. You started,
and you started it on the back end. Here as
as I want to do because you know me and
(10:59):
I love the storylines in the pageantry of the wonderful
world of of the WWE. I will steal from Roman Reigns.
And this is what Angel Reese is just doing. Acknowledge me.
That's it. I really I saw this today. I said,
You've got to be kidding, You've got to be kidding
(11:20):
me that that this is that that this this actually
happened before the game. Before the game that said, okay, okay, wow,
my head hurts, my brain. My brain's gonna get doing this.
But here's the thing though, now we need corroboration of this.
Did she said, doctor Biden? No, no, no, she said it. Yeah,
she said we didn't want her coming because of this.
I mean, we gotta know. I need I need second
(11:40):
and third sources. I want to hear the Bidens respond
to this. It's like, you know what, you know, me
me awesome to see. It's not going to but like
like like the Obamas are gonna have LSU there. They're
gonna say, hey, sorry, Joe, I know you were my
vice president, but you didn't pick Ella. I'm gonna have
them at the house. Uh to have them and I'm
I'm gonna have them here, and that's gonna make you
look bad. So I'm gonna go do that. I mean really,
(12:01):
like like that's gonna happen like suddenly, that's how what's
gonna go. I mean really, I mean I don't know, man,
I don't know. I gotta I gotta think. At this
point that Joe Biden is calling Obama going, hey, dude,
can can you help me out with us a little
bit here. This has gotten completely out of control now,
Uh you know, listen, just I get I get it.
I'm not gonna fill out a bracket ever again for
(12:22):
the NCA term. Just not gonna do it. I'm gonna
fill out one and pick Syracuse to win it all
because that's where I went. But can you help me
out with this whole thing, because this has gotten really
messied out? Yeah? But what if the Barack Obama does
a complete heel turn and they show up ready for
a party and there's there's the Iowa Hawk guys waiting.
I thought we'd run it back. Oh no, Obama has
(12:45):
both teams there. That's right, He's got both teams there already.
It's like I made it. This thing is just stupid.
I really hope it ends. I hope, but I don't know.
I don't know do I want it to end? Because, boy,
I tell you, I really like the crazy ass turn
of this story. I really, I just really to eleven,
we didn't want you to because you didn't pick us
in your bracket. It's like Biden had a press conference saying,
(13:07):
and uh, yeah, some of the things I want to
talk about the economy. I want to talk about a
couple of other things. Oh and uh yeah, hey, LSU
is not making it to the final four. I don't
have them in my bracket. They're gonna get upset at
some point early. Just so you know, I want to
make sure that PEP. Do we have questions? Yes on
the economy? No, no, no, I want questions on the
women's tournament. Can you give me question? I mean, so
you didn't pick there's six sixty three other teams he
(13:28):
didn't pick. You think they were all gonna say, We're
all gonna say no, Nope. The only team if you
picked that team to win, that's the other team you
can invite to the White House. Really yeah, I um,
I'm not going third rail with the year because I
got one liners for days coming out in that whole
little jag you just did there. But I'm gonna let
it go. You all envisioned them across the great Land,
part of our extended family here at Fox Sports Radio.
(13:51):
We love you all. Hey, speaking of basketball, hey go
see air with my good friends Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.
It's getting a lot of what is I mean that?
This is so? This is insane? This story. Be sure
to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with
Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app Fox Sports Radio.

before we get into big NFL topic, I gotta say
they are really trying to make air happen these commercials. Look,
it's Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and it's the Rise
of Nike. And I feel like every time someone talks
about it on social media, or I see the promo
(14:57):
for it or the you know, the trailer for it
on t I feel like they're sending me a subliminal message.
This is gonna be the new social network. It's gonna
be It's gonna be the new classic that people watch.
People are gonna say it's the best movie of the
last ten years. We're gonna make the Rise of Nike interesting,
just like they made Facebook interesting. It's the new social network.
(15:20):
I'm like, Okay, you're really trying, and maybe it is right,
and I'm hopeful that it's going to be good. Hey
we get to wear clothes from the eighties and nineties
and athletic and damon and yeah, hey we're best friends.
Were doing a movie. It's awesome. I hope it's really good.
But it can also be the mac Jones of movies.
It could be the Gretchen Wieners of movies, where hey,
we keep trying to make it happen and it's just
(15:41):
not gonna happen. So I'm like, okay, but I feel
like poy. They're they're imploring me that this is a
great movie. It's going to be great. You have to
go see The Rise of Nike. Yeah, you know, it's
it's been difficult for me and that there's been a
lot of praise. Right. The advanced little write ups of
(16:02):
it have been fantastic. I know some people that have
seen it who really talk about how great it is.
The performances, performance all the way down, and the more
I get sold, this becomes one of those where I
try to retreat a bit. Either I have to see
it really earlier, I'll never see it just that's how
(16:22):
hyped it is. It's like I go back to movies
like The Matrix or or what the hell was the
one that we were just back with the Blue People
with Cameron Um that we Avatar right Avatar and that
whole thing. If you didn't see it right away, I
heard so much about it that I went into hate watch,
and I'm fearful that I'm going to get close to this.
(16:47):
I'm gonna end up wanting to go in and pick
it apart and be just negative guy because so much
praise is being heaped upon it. I mean, and it's
a fleck and damon who everybody wants to take a
base ball bat? You like they're a big yata everything
they do all of a sudden, everybody's you know, bowing
down to the altar, oh good will, hunting and everything. Guse,
(17:07):
I'm like, no, what are you doing? You're you're doing
a whole heel turn. You hated these guys? What's going on?
I Mean, like I said, I always hope a movie
is good. I always good. I always hope it's it's
but I feel like, boy, it's like we're really we're
shoving this down your throat. Here's a here's a big
It's been a disappointing year at the box office because
of Aunt Mat and the Wasp and some other things.
(17:29):
And you know, we had an Oscars that had some winners.
We kind of scratching our head and wonder why Top
Gun Maverick didn't win. But here you go, here, you go. Here,
it is, it's air. How much is Michael Jordan in it?
Not at all, but he's in a little bit, maybe
a tiny little bit, but so I could see Michael
Jordan maybe. But you gotta come watch the movie. I mean,
that's that's that. That should be the voiceover, that should
(17:50):
be how they put it on television. You should see it.
Viola Davis was really good in that movie. You didn't
watch Woman King was fantastic, by the way. Uh so
now you have to come here. You first watched her
Getaway with Murder for seven years. Now see the rise
of Nike in Viola Davia. Wow, Wow, Wow, How this
(18:10):
time she's meeting with Ben Affleck and he's not Batman.
What happened on a Batman? You know, I got to
take a couple of days off here and maybe I'll
go to the movies. Maybe that'll be part of it.
(18:30):
Matt Damon was left on Mars and then Ben Affleck
rescued him and started Nike. They went back to Earth
in a Nike shaped ship. And that's how they got
back so fast. They swooched their way through space to
get name. That's how you that's how you sequelize this one.
What's the sequel? They're in space? By the way, his
(18:53):
his duncan Knownut's commercials are fantastic or a guy that
that has good humor about who he is and can
at himself. Oh yeah, he's in a good space. Yeah yeah.
The ones that his wife is doing are pretty good too.
Phil Knight goes to space. That's how we're gonna do it,
and what happens and he gets attacked by Jason Vorhees
who was still in space after Friday the Thirteenth Part ten,
(19:14):
which was Jason in Space. See we have now cross
genres se sci fi. We got horror, and we've got
a feel good movie about a little company that became
a behemoth Twitter and out about a Fresca. Mike has
swollen down the Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike carmeron all right now, I'm going to solve the
(19:35):
Lamar Jackson controversy. Right, certain stories have dragged on way
too long this offseason. Right, Aaron Rodgers dragged on too long?
Just be a Jed already and Lamar Jackson as well.
Today GM Eric de Costa, who had a press conference
talking about the draft, had to face repeated questions about
Lamar Jackson, despite the fact the PR representative to come
(19:56):
in and say, these questions are for the NFL Draft only. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
So what's going on with Lamar? Um? This is about
the NFL draft, right, right, right, right, So as you
get ready for the NFL Draft, what's going on with Lamar?
Many times I had to say these questions about the
draft round. Do you have a quarterback or don't you?
He was asked, Hey, what do you think you might
(20:16):
do here as far as the quarterback position in the draft.
And here's art to Costa saying maybe in the first round.
I don't want to insult anybody in the draft, but
you know, I would say there's probably more than four
guys that can that can be significant quarterbacks in this league,
in this draft class. Forget about where they might get
(20:38):
more than four. But I mean, i'm you know what,
am I gonna say? Seven to eight? Whatever it is?
But the fact is that we think that you can
get a quarterback in the first round or the third
round or the fourth round who have a chance to develop.
You know, we go back to Tyrod Taylor. I don't
know when we drafted him. Is that the fifth round,
sixth round, whatever it was, years and years and years ago.
(21:01):
Derek Anderson took him in with the six or seventh, right,
So you can get good quarterbacks. You saw what the
Niners did last year with Brock Party. It's quite possible
to get a good quarterback at any point in the draft.
Obviously the Goat, as my son would say, Tom Brady
was a six round pick. So they're all over the
place in the draft. You have to have good scouts,
(21:22):
you've got to have conviction, and in some cases you
gotta get lucky too. Wow, how happier all other thirty
one teams going. There are many great quarter There's not
just four, there could be eight, nine. There could be
that many great quarterbacks. You could take a guy in
the first round, you could take a guy in the
sixth round. It doesn't matter. You're gonna get a great quarterback.
And you get a quarterback at you and you, and
(21:44):
they're all gonna be great. Because I'm just throwing out guys.
If you're like, really Derek and Derek Anderson with the
kind of career you're talking about. Derek Anderson, he in
that great game when the Bengals and Browns mixed it
up that time. That was fantastic. It's a it's a
long way to go to say we're not trading up
to get one of the top four guys. Right, We're
not trading up. Maybe we'll let us if he falls,
(22:06):
maybe Hendon Hooker if we say, but we're not trading up,
all right, we're not going to get one of those guys.
I mean, like, listen, the guy going, oh, come on, man, really,
I mean you're sitting here and say, yeah, you get
great guy. It's so easy to get a quarterback. I
don't know why people are. They're very simple to get,
very easy. You just draft one and he turns into
he turns into a great quarterback. The Erica Costa makes
it seem like it's so easy. It's like those people
(22:27):
on TV that are going, hey, you want to lose weight,
Here's how easy it is. You eat just eight calories
a day. You have lettuce in the morning, you have
a nice glass of water at lunch, you have a
cucumber for dinner, You go to bed early, you keep
drinking water, and sure enough, hey, after a few days,
boom the milk. The weight just melts off you. And
they show the time laps with someone losing weight. It's
(22:47):
that easy to lose weight. It's that easy. Get a quarterback,
a second round, fourth, prontact, wherever it is you get
a quarterback, doesn't matter. Yeah, he went to the inevitable.
I'm like, don't do it. Don't do it. Come on, man,
don't do it. When you start cherry picking guys, and
not even great ones. I mean, I love to Rod
Taylor say his name right there, da Costa vote. Quimby
(23:08):
was also getting ready to roll out of his mouth
at some point in that pressor as he flowed through.
Maybe he could have done a Duncan Ads. Hey, go
see Duncan Donuts, get your coffee and a donut for
Ant Doller, But the he names a bunch of quarterbacks
and they're not even like Alzheimer's. Yeah, they played a
number of years. That's great, and I don't knock anybody's career.
(23:29):
You got to the highest level and you had some
level of staying power, whether it was in the meeting room,
on the sideline and the games you had to play.
And Anderson had a couple of moments where you looked
up and said, well, he and Braylon Edwards have something
popping here maybe, and then it didn't. But to Rod Taylor,
solid quarterback, not a that's not the poster guy to say, hey,
(23:51):
you can find him anywhere. And there are a couple
of guys, as we've talked about over the last couple
of weeks, that are going to be interesting towards the
back end of the Hurston into the second third round.
When you talk about Thompson, Robinson, Hendon Hooker getting a
little bit of a run here and part of that
to one or two mock drafts that have him going
all the way to five, which is kind of a
(24:13):
curious thing, but it got tongues wagging. So that's good.
But you picked some random outliers of guys who weren't
drafted in the first round. I mean, if you want
to throw up Dak Prescott, you want to throw up
some of these other guys that are second day or later.
But you know he's spitting a Uxenberg. Yeah no, yeah,
(24:33):
let's talk about him. On the positive side. Well, I
guess they didn't waste a lot of time figuring out
that wasn't gonna work, So we'll take the positive off that.
But you can have a handful of guys. But as
soon as you go all the way and you know
that Brady it was a six round, was like, oh,
you did it right. Whenever we compare quarterbacks, why do
we have to invoke Brady at all times? My god,
(24:56):
one guy one shoot a little lower in terms of
what the sealing is for a guy can't never mind,
never mind all the other guys that were taken and
washed out, which is more than the guys that have
worked out. No, I'm just gonna show you the four
or five guys out there. Hey, these guys are really
good and they hung around. Man. Hell, you might as
well bring up all the backups that are still collecting checks, right.
(25:19):
I mean, when we look at today's announcement. Hey, we
got Brian Hoyer going to the Raiders. He's gonna be
thirty nine years old. Good for him. So do you
account him as a success in terms of, you know,
these late round guys that you could bring into greatness. Yeah? Sure,
Brian drew another guy. Hey, you hold on to him
instead of taking the fancy toy and the high in
(25:41):
the first round. Why not Mike White. But here's how
I solve this right now. I'm gonna solve the Lamar
Jackson thing right now, right this, This is what I
do if i'd Baltimore. At this point, you have to
understand he's not gonna play for you again. Lamar Jackson's
not doing it. The fact that he waited till every
GM and head coach was sitting down to breakfast to
make a trade demand. He's not coming back. And now
(26:02):
the Ravens seem to realize that because they're no longer
saying we don't know what's happening. We love Lamar. I'm
banking on him coming. I don't know why everybody's talking
we love Lamar. They're not saying, they're simply not talking
about him. And that was a big thing today was
they didn't talk about him by name, they didn't reference him.
It's like they've moved on. If I'm the Ravens, I'd
take control of this situation at this point instead of
(26:23):
ignoring it. And I say, all right, he's not going
to play for us. It's obvious no one's gonna sign
him if they have to give up two first round
picks and have to give him all kinds of money.
So here's what we do. We make it happen. We
call Lamar Jackson and say, listen, your money demands have
to come down a little bit. What will you take
from another team? And then you tell us what you
want and they'll say this is what I want, okay.
And then I call the Packers because you know they're
(26:46):
gonna trade Aaron Rodgers. They'd love to replace Aaron Rodgers
with Lamar Jackson. I call the Falcons, I call Tampa Bay,
I call San Francisco, I call Washington. I call all
these teams that could wind up needing a quarterback, and
I say, listen, let's make this work. This is what
Lamar Jackson wants contract wise, and I want a young
quarterback from you. I want a couple of players, and
(27:08):
I want some non first round picks and that's gonna
make it happen. And we move on from Lamar Jackson
and you get Lamar Jackson and we get to move
on with a young guy. We call the forty nine
ers and say, listen, whatever this is. You want Lamar Jackson,
We want Trey Lance, and we want a player, and
we want a two second round picks or a second
round pick up, whatever it is, that's what we want.
(27:29):
You do the same thing when you call Atlanta or
when you call Green Bay and say, we want Jordan
Love and we want two second round picks that you're
gonna get from the Jets for Aaron Rodgers and we
want this player. And this is what we're gonna do.
And that's how what's gonna work. Want aj Dillon, and
that's how this is gonna work. If the Ravens took
control of it and they said, let's see what you
(27:49):
tell me. Tell us what you want from another team, okay,
and then they went out and tried to make it happen.
Because at this point you have to understand. You may
say you want X or why for Lamar Jackson, but
you're just not going to get it. So isn't it
worth it at this point just to get it, to
make it done? To say, why are we postponing the future?
Why are we dragging this through July August when we're
just gonna trade him at some point. We're gonna probably
(28:11):
trade him on the eve of training camp, and we're
gonna get one first round pick for him, and he's
gonna have to play somewhere for a year and where
we can maybe get a young quarterback and a player
and a couple of second round picks. Isn't that a
better haul than a first round in a high first
round pick where a mid first round pick from somebody.
Isn't that a better haul that we're gonna get? So
if I'm the Ravens, that's what I do. I take
(28:32):
control of the situation and I make it happen, and
I can make this trade go down before in the trade,
before the draft comes, and somebody, one of those teams
or somebody else I call, is gonna bite. If that's
what the price for Lamar Jackson's gonna be. Yeah, I
think at this point it becomes the creativity of trying
to figure out and assess what your options are because
(28:53):
trying to hype up a bunch of quarterbacks in the
draft and then come on man, like they put a
a tag on on the on Snoop Huntley in the process. Hey,
you want to come get him? What do they put
a third round tag on him or something like that?
Pro bowler Snoop Huntley. Uh, that's where your quarterback position is.
(29:15):
So everybody knows you're fishing around and you're looking there
for Lamar. Lamar Jackson's been pretty quiet the last couple
of days, or at least we haven't been dipping down
that that part of the process. I'll have to go
check his Twitter timeline see if there's any new business
ventures where I could be a seed investor, you know,
an angel investor to come over the top because that
Jim One, I don't know that that one's gonna fly.
(29:37):
People don't like wheeling suitcases around. But the for the
Ravens at this point, you're looking to your to your
next phase. I like the the optimism that nothing materializes,
comberheads prevail and that maybe you sign Odell Beckham Junior,
and that means Lamar Jackson and you come to an
agreement on Hey, you'll play out one year, thirty plus
(30:01):
million dollars deal. But I'm not overly optimistic of that.
It seems like we've gotten a little bit of Hey,
you know, it ain't business anymore, it's personal. Yeah, I mean,
if I saw any other way for you to hold
out for a talent like Lamar Jackson. But the league
is telling you this is what we think of Lamar Jackson.
No one thinks him as a guy that we're going
(30:21):
to give two hundred and thirty million dollars too. And
you give up two first round picks for Okay, you
may say it. It's like you know it is. It's
like when you sell your house, right, and if you
sold your house last year, you got a lot of
money for it. You probably paid more money for your
new house, but you probably got got a lot for
your house. Now, let's say your neighbor wants to sell
you their house this year, and it's kind of similar
to the one. Well, my neighbor sold his house last
(30:43):
year for seven hundred and fifty grands, so we want
seven hundred and fifty grand. The realtor says, yeah, that
was last year. This year, maybe it's like more like
six hundred and fifty grand. No, no, no, they got
seven hundred and fifty last year. We want that. Guess
what that's last year? That's got The market is telling you,
this is what your house is worth. This is what
that is worth last year. This is what your house
is worth this year. It's the same thing with Lamar Jackson. Hey,
(31:04):
this is what he could have been worth. This is
what he might have been worth. But the fact that
he's not healthy, he has contract demands, he comes attached
with first round picks. Yeah, they're telling you that's not
what the market's going to bear. So get creative. Call
these teams say a young quarterback, a player, a couple
of second round picks, and do it. And then suddenly
then you're out from under it. You're planning for the
draft and you got some second round picks to make
(31:27):
or to move up if you want to take a
quarterback in the first round, and you solve a lot
of issues. I don't see how this is not the case. Yeah,
but this is where you get into the fun part.
If nobody wants to be seen as a loser in
a trade, I mean, we get rid of a guy who,
when he's healthy, is a top five guy. As I'm
told he was the MVP. Be sure to catch live

him on Twitter at Rick Buker. That is at Rick Buker,
who's going to be forced to be saying nice things
tonight about Jalen Brunson. Mike Carmen kind of have to,
I don't. I don't think you have a joy well
or Emmanuel Quickly or Quentin Grimes, you know, the two
Q backcourt for thet for the Knicks getting it done?
Are we just gonna celebrate Rick Brunson while we're aheaded
Why not, Well, isn't in a bigger story about him
(32:55):
than what happened tonight. Mark Cuban is not celebrating Rick
Brunson at all. Oh, he hates him. He may hate
him more than you handon than Oral Hirshier. Mark Cubans
saying today, Hey, listen, don't blame me for the fact
that my team stinks. We wanted to keep Jalen Brunson,
who's an MVP candidate, but you know it was his
dad who got involved. And whenever the dads get involved, no,
(33:19):
throw it out the window. Joining us now, a guy
who I'm sure can tell us all about that is
On the Ball podcast has now been replaced by the
On the Ball Squared podcast with Matt Buker. It is
Matt Buker's dad Rick with us right now in the holllight.
What's happening, buddy, gentlemen, how are we excited? Hey, I'm
doing good man. Listen. Mark Cuban is complaining. It's no,
(33:42):
don't blame me for not bringing Jalen Brunson back the
Knicks or fourteen games over five hundred. We're a threat.
Now I'm happy, Rick, Yeah, you should be. You should be.
The Knicks are looking good. I'm trying to think who
it was or somebody who is telling me that they
think that the Knicks can take the Cavs. So not
only are they in the playoffs, but they actually may
(34:03):
went around. When was the last time they did that.
I'm trying to think that was that was nineteen seventy three.
Phil Jackson had the big, big body elbows in the
low post. Let's go there, you go, there, you go
exactly right. No, uh uh yeah. When it comes to
the uh, the Dallas Mavericks in the Mark Cuban saga, um,
(34:28):
you know from what I know, Um, it's uh, you know,
it's trying to to rewrite history a little bit in
terms of how things went. Back to the matter is um,
they didn't engage Jailon's dad. Um. And I know Rick
Brunson really well. This idea of like he's you know,
(34:50):
he was just had a one track mind to get
his kid to New York isn't from what isn't isn't
what I know of Rick. Was there a point at
which they thought that the Dallas Favericks didn't value jailing
enough and we're not making an offer that was commensurate
with what they thought it could be that that's where
it started, and the idea that you would come back
(35:14):
and give them an opportunity to you know, outdo what
New York had already offered. Um. You know, sometimes you
get that opportunity, sometimes you don't. Sometimes the feelings are
hurt from the from the very beginning, and it's like,
now we're not gonna give you a We're not gonna
give you a second chance to uh uh to keep
us because you had a chance the first time and
(35:35):
he didn't value us the way we thought you should.
So um, I think that's I think that's as much
as anything. And and look Mark had to come out
and say something because his best player is saying, yeah,
who we fed up large going to somehow spend that.
They go, well, we we we didn't f up like
(35:57):
they they didn't let us. So I understand when Mark
saying what he's saying, but look, the fact of the
matter is they blew it. Um they let Jael and
Jaellen get away. And I'll say this, like, did I
think that jayalen Brunson could do everything that he's doing
with the Knicks. I did not. He has been a
(36:18):
transformative player. He's been a guy that's led that team.
You know, I always thought he was a heady, smart,
winning type player. But to have the Knicks, what forty
six and thirty three now at this point, maybe forty
seven if they won tonight, I would not have counted
(36:40):
on him doing that with the disparate pieces the Knicks half.
So good on him. Um, you know what I undervalue.
I might have been in Mark Cuban shoes and not
given him as much as he deserved, because obviously he
deserved it. MVP. I've been telling you from beginning, MVP, MVP,
we get him on the All Star Game, an All
(37:01):
Star team. First, I think, hey, we got no retroactivity
on that one. We can't go back in the way
back machine, Rick. But we had the game of the
year tonight, Lebron and ad playing deep into this one,
showing you how much art, how much they care. Rick. Yeah, well, hey,
(37:23):
look they suited up, which there was some debate as
to whether that was going to happen. All available uh
you know, all available bodies were out there. Uh, Kauhi
played like forty three minutes. I think he played a
ton of minutes. It really was sort of a throwback.
And I mean, this is how sad it kind of is.
(37:45):
We were all shocked. We're like, holy Calli's guys, he
doesn't really playing. It's a meaningful game, and everybody's decided
they're gonna play. So um, but quite clearly, uh Lebron
and a d and the Lakers collective were gassed from
the the overtime game last night. That was pretty apparent,
(38:05):
and the Clippers knew it, and they jumped on them.
They did what they were supposed to do, still gave
them an opportunity. I mean, as as dominant as the
score would suggest that the Clippers were for most of
the game, it still had this feeling like they didn't
have a firm grasp on it, which is kind of
(38:26):
the way the Clippers play. If they make one mistake,
they decide, you know what, that's not good enough. Let's
make four or five. Let's make it interesting. And and
so the Lakers, you know, I'll give them credit. They
they hung in there. But this is a little bit
of why I've been slow to say they're gonna win
(38:47):
the West. So they're going to be in the Western
Conference Finals or everybody like watch out for the Lakers.
You know, this is a game where you would look
to your bench to to carry some some water for you.
And they've got they've got good role players. They got
better role players than they than they had, but they
(39:08):
don't have guys that are coming off the bench and
are going to make you pay and when the when
the starters are faltering, and that's what you need if
you're going to go deep in the playoffs. So, um,
I was it was fun. Kind of what I would
have expected. Um, you know, it's funny. I come away
(39:31):
from this game. I don't know that I like either team.
I hate you all with it all. I look at
them that goes, yeah, let's go see what the Phoenix
suns and they were cold, the State Warriors going, I
got going on because it was entertaining. It was fun.
(39:52):
I'm glad everybody showed up. Neither one of you really
impressed me. I'm okay, I'm good. I'll tell you in
the Westrick, we spent a lot of time lastly on
this is that you know, looking at and it's wide
open and hey, now the Warriors are winning a couple
of games on the road and everything, the Lakers can
win you. But I keep going back to if Kevin
Durant is healthy, everybody's sleeping on the Suns. But that's
(40:14):
the big thing. Can you count on him? You know,
you got to hope that he's got his injury out
of the way and it's going to be able to
play as the playoffs go on. But man, I mean,
it's just a different They're just a different animal and
they're just a different kind of team when when when
he's there, they are for sure. I mean there's a
reason there's seven to zero with him and four no
since she came back from the injury. Um, But they're
(40:35):
also top heavy to your point, like Kevin Durant has
to be Kevin Durant has to be that every night
because they're another team that doesn't have a whole lot
of bench and uh, And I'm the question is like
Chris Paul doesn't have to do as much as he
had to do before, but he still has to be
out there and functional. Will he be able to maintain
(40:59):
his durhamity through a deep playoff run. The most interesting
aspect for me is we're just completely Like we talk
about the Suns, we talk about the Suns as being
the favorite in the fourth seed, and the other teams
that we're talking about, Golden State, the Lakers, the Clippers,
(41:21):
like everybody's below them. We don't even talk about Memphis
or Denver or Sacramento as even like being a consideration
to go and win it all. And I'm just thinking that,
you know, we're maybe sleeping a little bit, maybe not
(41:42):
on all of them, but one of those teams is
going to make good on what it did in the
regular season, because all of the teams that we're talking
about all have much more of a weakness. It's a
reason that they're in the standings where they are because
we're looking at the names, and we're looking at the franchises,
(42:03):
and we're thinking of them in light of what we've
seen from them the last couple of years, not so
much what we've seen for them for the better part
of this season. And that's what I'm waiting to find out,
and that's what I think is going to be so fascinating,
particularly about the first round, if we're going to find
out whether whether you know, the Memphis Grizzlies and the
(42:24):
Denver Nuggets and the Sacramento Kings are just the latest
version of last year's Utah Jazz, or whether you know
we're finally seeing a changing of the guard and that
there's a reason that the Suns and the Warriors and
the Lakers and the Clippers are in the standings where
(42:46):
they are because as much as the names might be recognizable,
the overall performance and place where this team, where these
teams are, is just not what we're used to. He's
on Twitter at Rick Puker, that is at Rick Puker,
Fox Sports One. NBA Insider dropped the mic moment, I
(43:07):
come away from this game not liking either team. I'm
gonna think about that the next two days Slippers game.
I don't like either of these teams. Not only that,
but I said it while I'm standing here in crypto,
like I'm about to go down to the locker rooms
(43:28):
and go, hey, you guys, I wasn't impressed. I don't
like either one of you. Okay, ka, big win, Hey,
I really I'm really not a fan. I'm sorry, Hey Lebron,
you guys played great. Yeah no, I'm not a big fan.
I'm sorry. All right, Yeah, Wacker room and I'm gonna
go big whoop. Okay, big taking easy, buddy, enjoy the
(43:55):
locker rooms. We'll talk to you all right,
