NFL games are on our TVs, and there is one
story that has taken over the entire sports world. It
is the big one out of San Francisco. While the
forty nine ers play at Levi Stadium, the former number
three overall pick in the twenty twenty one NFL Draft

(01:34):
is on his way out of town. Earlier this evening,
as Sega just told you, Trey Lance was traded to
the Dallas Cowboys for a fourth round pick he had.
Of course, earlier in the week the depth chart came out.
We found out that he was third on the depth chart,
behind both brock Perty and Sam Darnold. As I said earlier,
Jason and I were on last Saturday when he was

(01:55):
the third QB off the bench. Obviously brock Perty started
from there. Sam Darnold got some reps, and Trey Lance
was third. Writing seemed to be on the wall that
he was not in very good position on the depth chart.
He officially gets traded tonight, Jason Martin, your first reactions
as Trey Lance is now a Dallas Cowboy.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
It's a big time blunder in the history of the
San Francisco franchise in terms of draft. It just turned
out to be a mistake. It didn't work out. I
don't know how much of a fair shot he got,
Like you know, he walked in and he dealt with
he dealt with injuries, and I don't know if it
was a perfect situation for him or not. But it

(02:38):
does need to stick a little bit to Kyle Shanahan.
It does need to stick a little bit to John Lynch.
You look at what Kyle Shanahan has done with, you know,
traditional pocket passing guys that aren't necessarily big time athletes,
Matt Ryan, Matt Shaw, obviously, Garoppolo and now Brock Party.

(03:00):
You've got a certain kind of quarterback that Kyle Shanahan
likes to have, somebody that is solid and consistent and
does exactly what he's told and executes it to a
high level, and he can win with those guys. Trey
Lance is a little bit more of a wild card
in terms of what skill set he brought and how
raw he was when he arrived, and then he dealt
with injuries, and he dealt with the expectations of being

(03:22):
the third pick, and now he goes to Dallas. And
we could talk about the Dallas part of it in
a minute, but ultimately it is them cutting their losses.
And there's a lot of losses here, considering multiple first
round picks given up to get a fourth rounder back.
The good news is because they were dealing with the
cap situation, getting six, getting a handful of million dollars

(03:43):
back off of that is going to help them and
give them something in the future. But you can't look
at it from an immediate perspective and say it's anything
but a failure. Considering what you gave up and what
you got out of the Trey Lance experiment.

Speaker 4 (03:58):
I'm going to go through a complete curveball at you.
I don't I don't talk about the competition very much.
We got Sports centerund in the studio. Adam Schefter is
doing a live hit from a restaurant right now.

Speaker 5 (04:09):
It is.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
It is unbelievable live TV, neither here nor there. But
you talk about how shocking this news was. I think
Adam Schefter you know, had his poor wife thought they
were going out for you know, the olive garden and
there he is with his camera in his face. But
to bring it back to Trey Lance, this is I mean,
I think it's a little bit shocking. I mean, again,
I understand third on the depth chart. I understand that

(04:32):
John Lynch had said the plan isn't to trade him,
but if the right opportunity comes about. But it's fascinating
and I think, you know, sometimes a lot of what
you said Jason is exactly how I feel is that
I'm not ready to call him a bust yet. And
I do think his particular skill set as a quarterback

(04:52):
that was a little bit underdeveloped, played at the lower
level FCS North Dakota State didn't play his final season
of college football. It was canceled because of COVID. They
played a single game in the fall and then played
a full season in the spring that he was not
able to play because he was preparing for the NFL Draft.
I think when you take that guy and you put
him on that roster, it's a it's just a tough

(05:16):
deal for everybody involved. And listen, I think we saw
it last year, right, you go back to last year,
it didn't really feel like Kyle Shanahead wanted to start him.
Remember Jimmy g was still on the roster at that point,
but it felt like you kind of got to see
what you got with the kid.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
Now.

Speaker 5 (05:31):
Unfortunately he got hurt.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
We never saw it, but you just wonder if this
was just the wrong place for the wrong kid at
the wrong time. This isn't Anthony Richardson with a first
year head coach a bad roster, and whether Anthony Richardson
works or not, he's gonna have time to figure it
out on the job and have time to grow on
the job. Same with Bryce Young in Carolina.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
CJ.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
Stroud has not officially been named the starter in Houston,
but I think we all expected the point being. The
more that I think about this, I don't think it's
this huge indictment on Trey Lance and he's the biggest
bust ever, and I just think they're in a totally
unique situation. They had a totally I don't want to

(06:12):
call it a fluky situation because it worked out well
and it was good evaluation. But they have a situation
where brock Perty has proven he can win games at
this level, running the Kyle Shanahan offense, and so sometimes
in life it just doesn't work out. And by the way,
maybe it is Trey Lance's fault, and maybe behind the
scenes he wasn't working in whatever. We'll find that out
in Dallas. And I'm not implying that in any way,

(06:33):
shape or form. The point I'm trying to make is
this feels like to me, just the wrong guy in
the wrong place at the wrong time. I mean, we
all had a boyfriend or girlfriend growing up, and you know,
a right girl, wrong time. That's just how I feel
about Trey Lance is is young quarterback needed to be developed.
They have a system that they need the quarterback to

(06:55):
do these specific things. He's clearly not ready for it.
They have a guy that's ready with as that's ready
to win.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
Now.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
I think that's just now that we're talking it out,
that's just my biggest takeaway. It's not that Trey Lance
is terrible. It's just it was the wrong guy to
bring into this specific organization at this specific moment in time.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Now, I'm not gonna treat it with kid gloves. I
will say this. It might end up being that Trey
Lance is terrible. Sure, Sure, sure, it's an incomplete right now,
and I think that's the only fair way to judge it.
I was skeptical during that draft process because of the
circumstances of how little football he had played, and you

(07:34):
look at he threw one hundred and two passes in
his career so far. He threw one hundred and two
passes in a forty nine ers uniform. Right now, it
is a failure. It's a failure for the forty nine ers,
and unfortunately it's a failure for Lance because it just
hasn't worked out. But you go to Dallas and you've
got another opportunity. I'm not saying to start for the
Dallas Cowboys. Please do not quote me and put that somewhere.

(07:56):
That's not what I'm saying. I am saying he can
learn behind Dak Prescott. I am saying saying that that
can He's not gonna have any pressure on him at all,
because at this point he goes from the third pick
in the draft, where some experts are saying he has
the highest upside of all these guys that came out
that year, which was insane to me.

Speaker 5 (08:14):
Unless you were just.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
Saying upside because he started from so much lower than
they did. But now he's the exact opposite. Now, basically,
anything positive that Trey Lance does from this point forward
is going to be credited to him. It's going to
be seen as Wow, man, this is pretty solid. Like

(08:35):
he doesn't have to go be a Hall of Famer
now to be a success story. He's got a chance
to be a comeback Player of the Year kind of guy.
It's probably not gonna be in Dallas, but if he
can mature down there, work behind Dak, maybe he will
get his opportunity. If Dak were to get knocked out,
maybe he does supplant Cooper Rush. Maybe he gets traded
in the year or two after he's developed and he

(08:55):
gets an opportunity to start for another franchise, and he
gets another look. It's not over. The story isn't over,
the book is not closed. There's still time for him
right now, right now, it doesn't look good, but he
needed to get out of San Francisco because that clearly
was the wrong place for both his skill set and

(09:17):
his timing. And once he once he fell behind Donald,
the writing was on the wall.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
Yeah, and I think Donald is maybe even a good example.
Now I know Donald had a second chance with Carolina
didn't work out.

Speaker 5 (09:29):
But you know a couple of things. I just think
some guys are.

Speaker 4 (09:33):
On different timelines. And the one thing that does stand
out to me about the modern NFL is that with
all these guys, you got to come in and you
got to be ready right away, right. I mean, you know,
Anthony Richardson taken with a third overall pick. None of
us think he's ready, like there's no disrespect, but he
completed fifty four percent of his passes in college last year.
It's not to say he can't get there, but it's

(09:55):
to say that there's no choice but to play him.
And so I think, you know, we we have a
system in the NFL right now. And by the way,
I get it right, the rookie quarterback, the good quarterback
on a rookie contract.

Speaker 5 (10:10):
Is a godsend.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
I mean, it's why the forty nine ers have a
super Bowl caliber roster because brock Perty is literally making nothing.
I mean, you know, league minimum, whatever it is, I
don't even know. But so I get why you have
to play young quarterbacks when you get them. But you
look at Trey Lance and again you just look at
the actual game reps the amount of games that he

(10:32):
has actually played, the fact that he just turned twenty
three years old a few weeks ago, Like, I'm by
no means ready to give up on them, and I
do think Dallas is the right spot now by the
time he would actually potentially see the field, who knows,
And again, to your point, maybe he doesn't see the
field in Dallas, but maybe there's a little bit of

(10:53):
a rehabilitation. Maybe you know, Dak gets nicked up, or
you know, they who knows, maybe they win the division
this year, or I don't think they're going to because
the Eagles are there, but maybe they win the division
and Trey Lance gets to start the Week eighteen game
and he looks good, Like I.

Speaker 5 (11:08):
Guess what I would say is, I'm sorry.

Speaker 4 (11:10):
I've been one of the most critical people of Trey Lance,
and I'm also sort of rooting for him, yes, because
I don't think that this is necessarily means that he's
a buster or anything. I just think it was just
the wrong spot at the wrong time for him.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
I absolutely agree. I mean, I think that's right, and
at least as it relates to this show, I think
we feel this way generally. There's a couple of exceptions,
but usually when you and I are critical of someone
first off, where you're critical of the performance, not the performer.
Ninety five percent of the time, I will admit I'm

(11:42):
a little critical of the performer when it comes to
James Harden and a couple like that. Kyle Right, there's
some guys that earn their stripes in that way. But
never when I say somebody isn't getting the job done virtually, never,
I guess I won't say never virtually Never do I
want to be right about those takes. I mean, nobody

(12:03):
wants guys to be terrible. Nobody's looking for that to happen.
I want the best league possible. I want to see
thirty two awesome quarterbacks going at it week after week
in the NFL, giving us the best possible entertainment that
we would ever find anywhere. Oh, what's the same thing
I want? I want more opportunity in college football, for
more schools to have hope. I want all of these things.

(12:24):
It's why, it's why we care, it's why we do this,
and we want to be surprised. And I hope at
least that most of us that do this for a
living to some degree actually want to be wrong when
we're being critical. So I've been as critical as you
can be about Trey Lance in a run up to
him being drafted, and just like you and I think

(12:45):
you said it right, I hope I'm dead wrong and
I'm eating my words in a couple of years. It's
easy to root for him now because what happened to
him was not necessarily his fault. He was pumped up,
told he was going to be something, and it hasn't
worked out to this degree. Not like he's a bad guy.
It's not like he's done a bunch of things that
should make him hard to root for. It's got to

(13:07):
be tough. As a matter of fact, too have gone
through what he's gone through. Even if you didn't think
he deserved everything that he got, he got it. He
was told that he deserved it, and someone drafted him,
and then after that it all went wrong for him
and to me, there's some sympathy at least from me
to him, because there's a lot of pressure, a lot

(13:27):
of expectation placed on his shoulders that was not warranted,
and now he's fallen completely out of favor, not just
in San Francisco, but just no one's talking about the guy,
and so why wouldn't you root for the comeback? Story?

Speaker 4 (13:40):
Very interesting story as Trey Lance officially a Dallas Cowboy.

Speaker 5 (13:45):
San Francisco forty nine Ers.

Speaker 4 (13:46):

Speaker 4 (15:45):
Lot of conversation about young quarterbacks tonight, Jason, especially with
the news that Trey Lance is on his way to
the Dallas Cowboys want to switch gears to one of
the youngest ones. Because just briefly, you know, I don't
want to overanalyze preseason stuff, but Bryce Young did play
tonight number one overall pick of the Carolina Panthers. The
Panthers did lose to the Detroit Lions. But why bring

(16:08):
it up. Bryce Young was on the field seven of
twelve seventy three yards, passing one touchdown, no interceptions. Doesn't
have to be really a reaction to tonight, Jason, But
just big picture, what are you expecting from Bryce Young?
Obviously a guy who has a ton of you know,
he's a smaller guy. We know what the limitations are,
but we also know an insane amount of upside after

(16:28):
two really good years at Alabama.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
Yeah, I mean, I love Bryce Young. I thought he
should be the number one pick. I mentioned earlier in
the program that you saw just how good he was
because he didn't have nearly the same level of skill
talent last year as we've seen at Alabama in the
years prior with Devonte Smith, and all of those guys,
Jaylen Waddle and the whole kitt kaboodle. And yet he

(16:50):
was still magnificent, and he had all the intangibles, and
he was just a flat out leader, and he was
a flat out winner. And there's nothing to dislike outside
of the fact that he's not six ' five. And
that can be enough, really, because the NFL beats you around,
and you've got to be able to just stay upright,
and you've got to be able to stay healthy. That's

(17:12):
gonna be the determining factor. What you're gonna see this
year is some highs and some lows, just like you
get from every rookie quarterback. He's gonna learn on the job.
He's going to figure out, you know, the NFL games
is a little bit different, a little bit faster or
a lot faster than the college game, even being played
at the highest level in the Southeastern Conference, and so
he's going to take some lumps. He's also as most

(17:33):
high draft pick quarterbacks are taken by a team with
some flaws, taken by a team that probably doesn't have
an all world offensive line, and so you know, it's
gonna take a little bit of time. Now, they did
get a Kwanu in the draft, and I like him
a lot, and I think, you know, he was really
coming around at the end of last year, and so
I expect, you know that he's going to be very
good for them again. But I don't know what the

(17:57):
record is. I know it benefits him to play a
week division one that feels like it could be wide open,
even potentially one they could win, even if it's not
an impressive season. But I think what you want is
progress by the end of the year, and I think
what you will get and what we'll be talking about
in the off season a year from now is, Man,

(18:19):
I'm excited to see what Bryce does in year two
because did you see how he started playing down the stretch.
That's what that's my prediction is the last month and
a half or so of this season, people are going
to start to notice and talk about Bryce Young, even
if the Panthers are out of the mix, and there's
gonna be a lot of hope and a lot of
optimism regarding year two. In his sophomore season.

Speaker 4 (18:41):
All'll say is, I know that there isn't a ton
of skill position talent around him, but I don't see
why I can't be this year only because of the division. Now,
I'm not saying that he is going to be you know,
Patrick Mahomes equivalent or Joe Burrow equivalent this year, but
I mean, you look at the schedule at Atlanta week one,
Saints week two, at Seattle week three, Vikings week four,

(19:03):
the same Detroit Lions team Week five, play the Texans,
they play the Colts, they play the Bears. You know,
they play a last play schedule, and I think it could.
I think it could click faster. Now again, I don't
think he's going to be the best quarterback in the league,
but I mean, you look at this division and you know,
New Orleans, I don't think anybody knows what you're getting.

(19:25):
You know, I know Derek Carr is there all that,
but like, what are we really getting from New Orleans?
Atlanta obviously they got all their chips in the Desmond
Ritter basket. We'll see if that ends up working out.
I just think because of the division and because of
a last play schedule, because you do play the Chicago Bears,
because you do play the Indianapolis Colts, we both agree
are gonna stink. Because you do play the Houston Texans

(19:47):
with the number two overall picks C J. Stroud, the
Buccaneers obviously twice in the division, who I didn't even mention.
I just think there's wins to be had. And again,
I get that the talent around him is not what
you need to win at the highest level, but I
think if he can stay up right, if he can
stay healthy, and again, you know nobody's rooting four injuries,
but obviously you know a guy his size, you worry

(20:09):
about it a little bit. I think he can click,
and I think he can click early, and maybe he can, and.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
I just I don't know what that means in terms
of whens win losses, and I don't know how many
mistakes that he might make along the way. He wasn't
a guy that threw a ton of interceptions. He is
an accurate passer, and he's a smart guy with a
high football IQ. All those things you like. And Frank Reich,
when he had a quarterback that wasn't beating himself, was

(20:34):
able to do quite a bit. You know, there was
talk of how good Frank Reich was a couple of
years ago, and then you know, he backed his guy
and it didn't work, and he was out the door,
and now he finds himself in this new spot where
Steve Wilkes was able to do with that team last
year things I don't think anybody saw coming, especially with
their defense, and their defense really came around and they

(20:55):
were able to keep most of what they needed there
as long as they stay healthy. They've got some young
talent and some guys that are already very proven. And
your point about the division is right. I don't know
what the Saints are going to be. I'm skeptical Tampa
Bay's not going to be very good, and Atlanta, I
just don't know. I don't know that they've got a quarterback.

(21:17):
I'm pretty sure they don't in terms of anything spectacular.
And you know, you draft b John Robinson. We're going
to see what that does. I don't know nobody's paying
running backs, but they drafted one. So you look at
Carolina and you look at Bryce Young, and you could
be right, they could win the division, but it might
be a division they win going eight to nine or
something like that. Like it. You know, it's not it's

(21:40):
not necessarily going to be a twelve and five or
something like that. It's going to be a bit different. Perhaps,
but that doesn't necessarily matter. I just think that it's
more important this year that Bryce Young progresses, learns the
NFL game, learns the speed, gets everything, and gets comfortable
with Frank Wright, because I think the best for him

(22:01):
is going to be in year two and year three,
h not in year one.

Speaker 4 (22:05):
Totally agree, and I think it'll be fun to watch.
I really do, just because you know young quarterback. But again,
like you said, he's not six or five. We get it,
but just about everything else is there and if it clicks,
like I said, I think with the schedule with the division,
they have a chance to be good really quick. Fox
Sports Radio Air towards Jason Martin. We are filling in

(22:27):
for Jason Smith and Mike Harmon.

Speaker 5 (22:29):
Coming up.

Speaker 4 (22:30):
There is one NBA story jas usually a quiet time
for the NBA, but we're gonna discuss that next. Some
interesting comments from a star in this league.

Speaker 5 (22:40):
That's next.

Speaker 4 (22:41):
But before we get to it, News Desk to Saga,
the floor is yours.

Speaker 6 (22:45):
Our last update on the White Sox shooting tonight, Yes,
during the White Sox home game. They lost to Oakland
in Chicago twelve to four. Now injuries not life threatening,
but Chicago police and a White Sox representative did originally
plan to provide update in the last hour on this incident,
and they confirmed there was a shooting two to three
people hit, but later they did cancel their press conference.

(23:08):
There was supposed to be a nineties theme concert at
Guaranteed Right Field in Chicago after the ballgame that was
canceled due to quote technical issues. Vanilla Ice, Rob Basse,
who threw out the first pitch, and Tone Loke were
due to perform after the White Sox game for those
still in attendance. A police source told Channel five Chicago
that the shooting occurred inside the ballpark at around eight

(23:31):
forty five Central time, that at least two people were struck,
but neither individual was reported to have sustained any life
threatening injuries, and again police confirmed there would not be
a media update tonight. One of the fans, though, said
he was in the left field seat section one sixty
one talking with a co worker back to the field,

(23:51):
and we heard a pop and then a pop off
a metal bleacher. I felt a pinch in my back
was barely grazed. I'm okay. I picked up bullet. There
was a lady that screamed behind us. Apparently that would
be the woman who was hit in the leg and
was bleeding taken to a local hospital. The one fan, though, said,
I'm fine. I'm just amazed at how the rest of
the ballpark seemed to have zero idea what happened. They

(24:15):
quickly cleared my section rose twelve to fourteen in the
fifth inning, but never notified anyone of anything, and the
White Sox game just went on. Police presence could be
seen with their rifles outside the stadium as the fans.

Speaker 5 (24:28):
Were let out of the ballpark.

Speaker 6 (24:30):
The live round was recovered by security and taken to
the office behind a home plate at gate four. I've
heard the scanner talking about blood in section one sixty two. Also,
there was a fan who attended tonight's game in Chicago
that said he was sitting a couple rows behind where
the shooting occurred. Nobody sitting directly in front of him,
but he said didn't see her, hear what happened, but

(24:50):
moments later a woman appeared to be bleeding from her leg.
He believed it was two people with wounds. It just
happened a couple rows in front of me, that they
got hit. Not sure if it was a third but
all of a sudden security was there and they kicked
us out of our seats for about an hour. Another
fan said there was supposed to be a free concert
after the game, and they came and announced right after

(25:11):
the game ended it's canceled. Didn't give any other information.
Everyone started booing, going crazy, saying derogatory things, and then
about five minutes later, they put up a note on
the video board saying canceled due to technical issues. At
everyone booed. No one was leaving at the time. Some
people in Chicago said, Wow, we should storm the field,
and then the whole crowd started chanting sell the team.

(25:34):
Chicago police did confirm a shooting incident at the game,
but no other details tonight. Wow three late ballgames in
the major leagues. Arizona now up ten to four over
the Cincinnati Reds. Top of the ninth, It would be more,
but the Reds left fielder robbed a home run, leaping
over the top of the left field wall. He didn't

(25:54):
come down with the ball, though they gave him the
out on video review. There was a kid in the
first row who also had a glove who got the
ball kind of out of the fielders glove into his
and wound up with the ball. It did not wind
up a home run, but the home team is winning.
In the ninth ten to four over the Reds Jeffrey
may or anybody Mariners leading the Royals six to five

(26:16):
in the top of the seventh, and the Atlanta Braves
continue to be superb five to one the final at
San Francisco tonight. The Braves record eighty three and forty
four and tonight's winning pitcher, Spencer Strider, is fifteen to four.
He went seven innings with nine strikeouts in this game.
He's on pace for about three hundred strikeouts this year.

(26:37):
That would be a franchise record. John Smoltz has the
franchise record of two seventy six. Just for the record
and final note on the Braves from the great researcher
Sarah Langs. Braves are the best first inning team. Tonight
they had Michael Harris first inning home runs. Braves had
the most runs not just of any team in first inning,
most of any team in any inning this year. They're

(27:00):
tied with the Dodgers most first inning homers. Again, that
ties them with any team with home runs in any inning.
This year, Braves have the most hits in the first inning, again,
most of any team in any inning. And finally, their
run differential just in first innings is plus seventy six
thirteen runs better than any other team in any other

(27:21):
inning this year. And yes, as you mentioned, forty nine
Ers traded quarterback Trey Lance to Dallas for a fourth
rounder next year.

Speaker 4 (27:28):
Back to you, thank you very much, Steve Sager to
Saga will rejoin us here in about ten minutes for
an extended updates some more stories that we've missed throughout
the night. This is Fox Sports Radio. This is the
Jason Smith Show. Jason and Mike are out. They were
actually in earlier today for Cavino and Rich and Doug Gottlieb.
If you miss those shows, if you miss Jason and Mike,

(27:48):
if you want to hear Jason and Mike's voices, you
can of course download those podcasts, although wait till our
show's done before you do that. Er Tors Jason Martin
fillin in for the guys, and we are broadcasting live
from the tyreck dot Com studio. So Jason, obviously, look,
football's here. It's football time. College football starts tomorrow. You
know about what a week and a half from that

(28:10):
first NFL Thursday, well two weeks from yesterday, I guess,
so by the time we get through this weekend, it'll
be about a week and a half.

Speaker 5 (28:16):
But why I bring it up?

Speaker 4 (28:18):
This is generally the slowest time on the NBA calendar.
But there was a very interesting story today involving Janni
Santena Kupo. Of course he is, you know, he is
actually in an interesting scenario. He's in the middle of
a five year deal, but starting in September, he can
actually sign a three year extension beyond the existing deal.

(28:41):
If he is so inclined. Why I bring it up?
He was asked about the opportunity to sign that extension,
and according to The New York Times an interview that
he did with the New York Times, he does not
plan on signing it. He basically said that he wants
to wait, make sure everybody is on the same page.
He said, quote, I would be I would not be
the best version of myself if I don't know that

(29:03):
everybody's on the same page. Everybody's going for a championship,
everybody's going to sacrifice time away from their family like
I do, and if I don't feel that, I'm not signing.
So this isn't the traditional NBA story where a guy
can be traded or you know, he's a free agent
at the end of the year or whatever. But Giannis
is generally, at least publicly kind of never been I

(29:26):
have any interest in leaving a Milwaukee guy. So definitely
some very interesting comments from the two time MVP.

Speaker 2 (29:33):
Yeah, this one. This one definitely made me stand up
and pay attention because of who it was and how
he usually talks. I mean, he went further and he said,
at the end of the day, I feel like all
my teammates know and the organization knows that I want
to win a championship. As long as we're on the
same page with that, and you show me and we
go together to win a championship, I'm all for it.
The moment I feel like, oh yeah, we're trying to rebuild.

(29:55):
There will never be hard feelings with the Milwaukee Bucks unut.
Basically like the second I think there's a rebuild or
we're done, I'm out and no hard feelings. But I
gotta go. That's fascinating to me because they just won
a title, you know, just a couple of years ago
and they just had the number one seed, right right,
That's what I'm saying. It's the comment here that you know,

(30:17):
we got to make sure we're on the same page.
What are you saying, like, what is the underlying point
that you feel like that you could be better? You
feel like maybe it's not enough with you and Chris
Middleton and some of the guys that you have, and
you'd like a better second banana maybe or somebody else
that could, you know, take a little bit more off

(30:38):
of you and Chris. I don't know what you're saying here,
but this is the first time that I've seen anything,
and this is immediately going to be jumped on by
a lot of people to put him in a Lakers
uniform or put him wherever else. But it definitely did
make me raise my eye eyebrows because when I went
and clicked on the story originally it was just like,

(30:59):
all right, well, what did Honestly, I don't imagine it's
that big a deal. What is a title commitment? And
then I read the quotes and it's just, huh, what
are you laying the groundwork for here? There's gonna be
a lot of speculation about this.

Speaker 5 (31:11):
I think no doubt.

Speaker 4 (31:13):
And you know, for again, for people who don't remember,
they wore the number one seed in the East, fifty
eight regular season wins. They had the most wins in
the regular season this year in the NBA. And listen,
if he doesn't get hurt in that series against against Miami,
there's a pretty good chance that, you know, they advance
in whatever. And I don't know if they would have
been good enough to beat Denver, whatever. But it is

(31:34):
interesting because I guess, you know, I guess he is
just answering a question. You know, he has the ability
to sign an extension, he's not. He probably feels like
he's getting out ahead of this story to make sure
when he doesn't sign the extension it's not shocking and
he can kind of control the narrative.

Speaker 2 (31:51):
But I don't.

Speaker 4 (31:52):
I don't really know what the endgame is. Does he
want new teammates, does or is it just Hey, I
just want to make sure we're on the same page.
I want to make sure that you know, my my
prime is very much right now, and I want to
make sure that I'm in the best position to capitalize
on that. And by the way, if that is his
intention that's totally fine. Led the team to a championship,

(32:14):
two time MVP. He has been unbelievable. He has elevated
that organization to a place that none of us expected.
And he's, you know, twenty eight going on twenty nine
years old later this year, so he's in his prime
and he wants to win as many of these things,
like like everybody else does. But I guess, you know,
just I'm just curious. Is it just a matter of, Hey,

(32:34):
I want to get out ahead of this story because
I know I'm an extension eligible here in a few weeks,
or is there some kind of I want new teammates,
I want more depth, I want more of this. I
want more that just an interest. Like you said, interesting
quotes that definitely kind of perked my ears up.

Speaker 2 (32:51):
Yeah, I mean me too. And I mean you also
have a coaching change too, And maybe he wasn't too
thrilled about that. It's like, you know, everything went wrong
and we move down from coach Butenholzer, and maybe that's
an issue. I have no idea. It's just the first
time that he has he has kind of raised an
alarm bell that Milwaukee now is on the clock. When
it comes to make sure that you guys look like

(33:15):
you still want to win as bad as I want
to win, because if not, that's the way that you
see me in a different uniform.

Speaker 4 (33:22):
Fascinating quotes from Janna Santannakoopo again, extension eligible in September,
does not appear as though he is signing that extension.
Fox Sports Radio. This is the Jason Smith Show. Jason Smith,

Jason Martin are in. We are broadcasting live from thee
Tireck dot com studios, and we are brought to you
by Discover. At the end of your first year, Discover
credit cards automatically double all the cash back you've earned.
That's right, everything you earned doubled. Seriously. Terms of check

(35:00):
it out for yourself at Discover dot com. Slash Match
outside of the Trey Lance Trade. It's been a little
bit of a quiet night in sports, so we want
to get to the Sager speak for yourself. Oh yeah,
I guess, yeah, I guess there was some an incident
at the White Sox. So anyway, I'm talking too much
to Saga the floors hears tell us what we've missed.

Speaker 6 (35:19):
Well, let's update that San Francisco game is with about
a minute ago. The Chargers just went on about an
eight minute drive to nearly run out the clock in
this late night preseason game. It's now LA twenty three
to twelve over San Francisco. They just kicked a short
field goal to end a drive of seven fifty seven.
By the way, forty nine Ers do not have quarterback

(35:40):
Trey Lance. He was traded to Dallas for a fourth
rounder next year. A lot of us thought we would
see Lance from North Dakota State against the Chargers East
and Stick from North Dakota State tonight. Stick is now
the backup quarterback, the number two for the Chargers, and
he started tonight a nine of eleven passing just thirty
eight yards. TCU rookie Max Duggan had a short touchdown

(36:01):
pass for the LA Chargers. So the three quarterbacks for
the Niners tonight. The starter brock Perty did play had
a five yard touchdown run first quarter. Sam Darnold off
the bench, had a touchdown pass early third quarter six
yards to Willie Snead. The third round, a third string
quarterback is now Brandon Allen. He threw an interception on
his first pass, two of six, passing just twenty three yards.

(36:22):
It is now a final twenty three to twelve Chargers.
Earlier Tennessee and Detroit gut wins plenty of games tomorrow,
and the final NFL preseason game of the year will
be Sunday night on Fox TV Houston at New Orleans
Saints defensive back Marshawn Lattimore still out with a knee injury.
Basketball's World Cup started today in Asia, and the Americans

(36:43):
open Saturday morning our time against New Zealand. The final
of this tournament is September tenth, which is also, by
the way, when the US Open Tennis tournament will end
September tenth, that starts in New York on Monday. In hoops,
Canada dominated France in its opener ninety five sixty five.
Keep in mind there's a record fifty five current NBA

(37:03):
players that are on various national team rosters for this
Basketball World Cup. For Canada, Shay Gilgis Alexander twenty seven
points and thirteen rebounds in the blowout win.

Speaker 2 (37:14):
R J.

Speaker 6 (37:14):
Barrett, playing for Canada, was one of ten shooting from
the floor and they're still won by thirty points. Australia
with the always reliable Patty Mills beat Finland ninety eight
seventy two. Mills twenty five points in twenty eight minutes
for the Aussis. For Finland, Lowry Markinen had nineteen points.
Dominican Republic has Karl Anthony Towns. He had twenty six

(37:35):
points and because of him they were able to edge
home team Philippines eighty seven eighty one. At the free
throw line, Towns was fifteen for sixteen. The rest of
his Dominican teammates just eight of eighteen on free throws,
but they did win a close one. Playing for the Philippines,
Jordan Clarkson fouled out with twenty eight points. Montenegro's Nick
Vuschevich twenty seven points in a win over Mexico ninety

(37:59):
one seventy one for Germany, and they have four NBA
players Well Wagner twenty five points. Germans led Japan by
twenty two in the first half beat them eighty one
sixty three. Lithuania over Egypt easily Jonas Valenschunis fifteen points
in seventeen minutes ten rebounds as well. Italy beat Angola,

(38:19):
Latvia over Lebanon. More games on Saturday, including the US. Obviously,
the American roster has twelve current NBA players, Australia has nine.
By the way, Canada with seven current NBA players the
US and I watched the exhibitions, was actually surprising to
me how good they were. And they hadn't played together
until that Vegas training camp recently, but they went five

(38:41):
to zero in the preseason.

Speaker 5 (38:42):
You might say there's no Kobe Bryant on this team.
I know that.

Speaker 2 (38:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (38:45):
Did you see that quote from Anthony Edwards for people
who don't know, Yeah, no, no, no, for people who don't know.
I guess Steve Kerr was trying to, you know, build
some camaraderie and hey, guys, we all got to sacrifice, and.

Speaker 5 (38:57):
Hey the redeemed team.

Speaker 4 (38:59):
Dwayne Wade came off the bench, but backing up Kobe
Bryant and Anthony Edwards looked Steve current the einstin we
don't have Kobe Bryant on this team.

Speaker 6 (39:08):
Yeah, the USA basketball folks have had a harder time
getting the stars like Durant and Lebron in the past
because this isn't the Olympics to our country. This is
a lesser tournament. And they still do have the Rookie
of the year Paula ben Caro coming off the bench.
He's playing for the US, not Italy for this tournament.
They have the defensive player of the year Jaron Jackson,

(39:29):
who had some impressive games in recent weeks. They have
all stars like Anthony Edwards and Tyrese Haliburt. In fact,
Haliburton had a couple of twelve assists, one turnover games
for the US. But most impressive to me they played
a game at Spain, ranked number one, and the US
blew a lead, fell behind third quarter, and still won
at Spain by ten. Just for the record. Spain is

(39:49):
currently top ranked in the Americans, very close number two
in the latest THEBA rankings. In the FIFA rankings for
women's soccer, the new ones came out today, the US
fell to number three the world. Sweden is now number one,
Spain is number two, just ahead of the US by
percentage points. And as far as college football, what would

(40:09):
it cost to see every game on TV this season. Apparently,
the answer is around five hundred bucks. There are roughly
nine hundred FBS games on the schedule. The Washington Post
wanted to find out how much it would cost to
get all the streaming services and the channels needed, not
just Fox, but you know, your Longhorn Network, FS one,
streaming whatever. Apparently, for the five months of the college

(40:33):
football season, it would be around five hundred bucks, roughly
fifty cents per game. If you could watch all nine
hundred NFL Sunday tickets, that's over a dollar per game
if you work it out that way.

Speaker 4 (40:44):
Thank you very much, Steve Siger. A lot of groundcovered
there busy night, a lot of groundcovered. Like I said,
Fox Sports Radio, Aeron Tors, Jason Martin, we are filling
in for Jason Smith and Mike Harmon coming up. It's
the big story in baseball. What's next for sho Heyo Tani.
