(00:52):
The way tire buying should be well. Right now, America
is watching this game between the Lions and the Packers.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Are they really yes?
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Well, well maybe they still are, or they were in
the first half, or they were for the first quarter.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Maybe they and they were watching.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
They were saying the Packers, Wow, twenty yards of offense
in the first half. Wow, twenty seven to three. This
is what a Jets game must be like. And I
would say yes, exactly. This is what a Jets game
is like. I would say a Bears game as well.
But really, because the uniform is green, you can kind
(01:28):
of squint. Jordan Love looks a little bit like Zach
Wilson a little bit. Yeah, because of the green squinting year,
you're yourself to me, I can get beat. Yeah, this
is what a Jets game. Congratulations. Everybody going, Oh man,
I take back everything I've said about Jason Smith and
the Jets.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
This is what he has to watch every Sunday. Oh man,
I feel awful for the guy. This is what a jetskin.
This is what Jets have looked like. Well, what did
I tell you yesterday? Now, all the Taylor Swift stuff
she's doing charity two weeks in her own bears into
Jets Man that she's watching it, so the rest of
America doesn't, and it really, you know, does lend some
credence to There's got to be at least a liking
(02:06):
of Travis Kelcey to come out of that. That's true love.
That's true love. Those hours lots of other memes going around.
It's too early in the night to get into those,
because there's some su bruder film stuff that people are
asking some questions and having their jokey Jokerson thing. What's
going on? But this Thursday night football thing an absolute disaster.
(02:28):
Is the Packers no show for the second straight week?
Look right now, it has been all Detroit. Jared goff
Is thrown for a buck sixty three in a touchdown.
David Montgomery. This when you say, hey, what does it
mean when you're a volume running back? Yes, it's David Montgomery.
For some reason, despite the fact he's averaging three point
two yards of carry, keeps getting the ball for the Lions.
(02:50):
Can you tell that I have Jamier Gibson fantasy? Can
you tell Jamier Gibbs can't run forward or pass block?
And that's why he's not on the field a bunch.
David Montgomery fifteen carries fifty yards to touchdowns. But it
has been all Detroit. Their defense has kept the Packers
not only off the field, but Jordan Love just does
not look like the same quarterback in the first three weeks.
(03:11):
He doesn't look as decisive in the pocket, His receivers
aren't as open. The Lions are getting to him, They're
getting in his vision, they're getting in his passing lanes
and he has just not been the same guy. But
he has had chances. He's airmailed it, right. He had
Dobbs on what could have been a huge gainer if
not a sprint to the end zone. Then he just
(03:32):
overshot him on a ball in the first half back
when it was still a game, well, when it was
still a game. The game, the game we were talking
about practice, not a pride. But but that's the thing,
is that.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
And for everybody who's gonna jump up and down on
Jordan Love right as the Packers do have the football
they are driving right now, is that Jordan Love is
exactly who we said he was all season long, exactly
who said he was. He's gonna move the team passing
the football and with his legs. They'll throw him they
need him to, but just not all the time because
he's not that guy. They need their rushing attack to
(04:04):
be able to compliment him and they'll go forward.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Now. They've got lucky the last couple of weeks because
aj Dillon's been bad, no Aaron Jones, They've still been
able to move the football right, It's still been It's
still been a positive experience for Green Bay so far
because they've played pretty well, but you are seeing now, Hey,
when you're playing a team that really knows what you
like to do when you can't run the football. And
Aaron Jones hasn't been in the game since midway point
(04:28):
of the second quarter. Don't know if we're going to
see him again after maybe tweaked his injury again. When
you can't run the football, a team knows, Hey, this
way you like to Yeah, it's gonna be make it
really really difficult for you. But this is who Jordan
Love is. When the team, when the team, when the
offenses is be able to fire on most of their cylinders,
not all cylinders, but most of their cylinders, he will
(04:49):
be really good. Right what his number four Fantasy quarterback
of the Year coming in. He's got a lot of
production and they're moving the ball really well. However, nights
like tonight, you're gonna get these nights. It's gonna happened. Well, Yeah,
Watson back in the fold. His opportunities and snaps have
been limited. Jones is back in the game. Had I
just saw right here, so I'll just go back in.
(05:10):
That's good for him. Yeah, So caught a pass and
then had a nice little nine yard scamper off the
left end. Uh to extend this driving now on a
fourth and nine down twenty four field goal, does you
nothing except for fantasy owners.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
Makes it the three score game, makes the three score game.
We gotta gotta go for it, three score game. I'm
still trying to win, still trying to win. First down
for the Packers. Looks like, yes, looks like was that
aj Dillon that caught that pass the middle of field?
I couldn't tell hang on that. It looks like it
looks like Dobbs. Dobbs got that ball middle of the field.
He caught it on the ground, So it wasn't the
(05:45):
best pass. But first and goal now for the Packers
as they try to get Jason.
Speaker 4 (05:50):
How many people do you think they're thought that was
Randall Cobb?
Speaker 1 (05:54):
I think, well, I think people turn into this game
tonight code he's not still there.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
They don't still have Cob. You know what, if he
caught that hail Mary, you would have beaten the Patriots.
This last is uh, is James Jones in this game?
Speaker 5 (06:06):
Like?
Speaker 3 (06:07):
Where where where's James Jones? He's still playing? Like and
if the Jets had a quarterback, they'd be good yeah,
if it, but Candy et cetera. Yeah, yeah, I know,
like I paused because I didn't know if you were
just really wishing for fantasy points from AJ Dillon. Oh no,
I don't have AJ Dillon. I want to borrow my glasses. No, no, no,
because the body type I couldn't see. I saw the butt.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
Listen, I'm talking, and I see somebody roll over after
they catch it.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
You have Corey Dillon. I do not have Corey dyllon
Hall of Famer Corey. Do not have Melinda Dylon. She's
somebody Dylan from uh yl Oh too soon, really, too soon?
Too soon? No, we can celebrate the life and times.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
Don't have Dylan Brooks. I don't have Dylan McDermott or
Dermott mulroney, neither of them. Gotta get Dermott molron, none
of the go down there, none of that. Uh So again,
time out on the field and we have the Packers.
Speaker 6 (07:00):
Big.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
But let's just say this because not because I picked
the Lions to go to the Super Bowl, but I did.
Uh everybody is now seeing tonight. Look you saw Opening Night?
They beat the Chiefs. Hey, how good is this team?
Speaker 2 (07:12):
They won?
Speaker 1 (07:13):
They lost a game, but now here seeing what they've
done to the Packers in the first half of this game. Offensively,
still without running the football, without Jamison running the football,
run the ball times yes, for three yards of carry, yes,
and it's still without running the ball, effect, time of possession,
matriculate down the field, and big play volume. But they
(07:34):
had five big plays and having Montgomery to where you
actually have a thread of a run where you did
not have that with Jamier Jims.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
Jimier Gibbs will get your two yards of carry, so yeah,
they didn't even trust him to do that. They abandoned
that all the other but big play after big play
in the passing game has been there for Jeredy. This
is a Lions team that still is not great running
the football, is efficient enough, still missing their big weapon
coming in because you know they want to get Jamison
Williams back in here. And when it suddenly you're talking
(08:01):
about him and Saint Brown and you have Josh Reynolds
who has a ton of targets tonight and a second
leading receiver. Now Laporta is a huge target. He's actually
the leading receiver for the Lions tonight. I'm telling you, man,
watch out this high octane offense. That's what I've loved
about the Lions. And they're still not even as good
as they're going to be. They're starting out way back.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
I thought this is a team they're gonna sit around
five hundred ish for the first few weeks. They'll get
Jamison Williams back, they'll integrate him, and then they'll figure
out their running game and then they're gonna be really dangerous.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Uh. They're on the cusp of going three and one,
and suddenly it's like, hey, guess what. Our division is
pretty easy because everybody else stinks. We don't have to
worry about Kirk Cousins. In a few weeks, he's gonna
be a jet. The Bears are gonna wind up going
for Caleb Williams. We beat the Packers tonight, we could clinch.
They can clinch if they win the Packers game tonight, Mike,
they could clinch. You're already you're already going down there
at the Lions. Yeah. I mean they had the big
(08:53):
shootout loss in ot to Seattle, the narrow win against
the Chiefs in Week one. No Jones or Kelsey, But
you play who's on the schedule, right, Take Garret business
and then Atlanta. I think we're all starting to recognize
they're not good. E. John Robinson's gonna have a few
highlights along the way, but otherwise they stay.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
It's one of those teams that once you figure out
what they're trying to do offensively after the first couple
of weeks, Okay, now now we got Gile.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
Pitt Now he's on the side of a milk carton
oh Man for Drake Gormindon is on the side of
a milk cart. Kyle Pitts is gonna be thirty five
years old. People are gonna say, but he's gonna be
the best tight end in the game. Just watch with
a young quarterback, you'd at least I don't know, target
your tight end ones. Who do you feel worse for?
Kyle Pitts, who was supposed to reinvent the tight end position?
(09:41):
Or Garrett Wilson? Who do you feel worse for? Who
do you feel worse for? Kyle Pitzer Garret Garrett Wilson
because you showed last year what you were able to
do even with myriad quarterbacks, and now you know Mike
White's down there in Miami. Yeah, I want to be
like Mike Mike White is still there. The Packers are
in the end zone. Second half Team Smith, Christian Watson.
(10:03):
I met you had a touchdown pass. He's got four
targets to night, now got two for twenty five. He
was wide open and almost dropped it. There wasn't a
defensive back within ten yards of him, and he almost
dropped it as he tried to stay in bounds. Yeah,
the Packers are gonna go for two to try to
turn this into a two score game. Here, make it
twenty seven to eleven. They did a nice little pick
(10:26):
play as he came across the formation to get himself
wide open, and Love just laid it out there. And
not only did he have the issue corralling the ball,
you also had to take a look at his feet, right,
because we've certainly seen officials screw that one up, haven't we.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
Yeah, a couple of times. Oh he's he's out of bounds.
He's not out of bounds. The two point conversion that
Jayden Reid is good. Make it twenty seven to eleven.
So maybe the Packers are not dead yet.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
What are you not gonna have? Squad? Baby? What do
you got? Frostburg?
Speaker 4 (10:57):
How happy is al Michael with that touchdown, he might
be the happiest guy on the planet with that right.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
Oh yeah, he's got to have close games. He's got
if he does, I mean, at some point, I just
expect him to just walk off the well, this game
being garbage. Are you ready for the next couple of
Bear commanders?
Speaker 6 (11:13):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (11:14):
Well, he might take a vacation day Bronco's at Chiefs.
Speaker 4 (11:16):
Yeah, another vacations at Saints box up, Bill's not bad,
and then Titans and Steelers.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
Yeah. But if Taylor Swift is at that Chiefs game,
that's okay. Oh, she'll be there.
Speaker 4 (11:26):
She's dating the dude.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
He's probably gonna take take that that game next week off.
Unless the Jets cost her her eyes. Well, she she
is going back on tour on the eighteenth, So the
window for this, you know, tourd end of summer, Summer's
kiss kind of love affair thing.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
But that's TBD because she's going to watch the Jets.
She might not be able to see after.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
Physically, I mean, maybe nauseated. You know, as you all know,
I've had my retinas burned out watching the Jets. So
please bear with me tonight as I go through my
signature songs and a brand new one dedicated to the Jets.
It's called It's called Oh My Redness. I had to
(12:06):
watch Zach Wilson and what two three, four, No, no, no, no, no,
I thought it was see you in Hell with the
parenthetical metaphorically, you've burned my eyes. Yeah, you know, we
got we got some Zach Wilson stuff coming up next,
and we got some social media stuff with the Jets,
the Jets proving that no, not only can we have
(12:27):
Aaron Rodgers get injured be out for the year and
it's hard to recover from that. No, no, we're gonna
be our own worst enemies. With everything else we got that,
we got more on the big stories going on in
the NFL. Keep it right here.
Speaker 1 (12:39):

Jason and Mike This as Fox.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
Still twenty seven to eleven lines with the lead over
the Packers here middle of the third quarter, which we'll
get back to that in a minute. But two crazy
things from Major League Baseball we got to get to
for a couple minutes here. First of all, because you know,
they find a way to get involved. The wild card
race in both the National League and American League is
(13:36):
still up in the air. We are still waiting to
see the final teams that are going to be able
to qualify. We know a few of them, but the
final couple of spots in each league is going to
come down to the final couple of days. Toronto, Houston,
Seattle battling for those two spots in the American League
and the National League. Boy, you got Arizona, who's likely
to clinch very soon. Miami, Chicago, Cincinnati, all right there
(14:01):
trying for two spots, right.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
The White Sox try to win today. Well, they tried
something new. Yeah you want let's try something, you know,
what I mean, try something like they were doing everything
they could to keep the Cubs out of the playoffs,
losing their Arizona Yeah, watching the Cubs lose their own games.
They were trying to be at mister Helper and then
they go out and win the game.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
Out today, Mike, But they screwed over the Diamondbacks. It
was great, Hey, how about we got win? No no, no,
that's they're not expected to push their ace back of game,
so he can't pitch till again.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
So in this pantheon of who's trying to qualify where
we're at, let me tell you first about the Mets
and the Marlins before we get to Bryce Harper and.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
The what did the Mets screw up this time?
Speaker 1 (14:41):
So the Mets are winning one nothing, going to the
top of the ninth inning, right, It's last game of
the year for the Mets and the Marlins. Mets have
really beat the Marlins a lot this year. If the
Marlins don't make the playoffs, looking, go boy, we couldn't
even beat the Mets and they stunk. The Mets are
winning won nothing. The Marlins threatened the Mets, bringing Anthony
k who is a guy that was drafted by the team,
then was let go by the team, was brought back
(15:02):
by the team, was traded by the team, and now
brought back by the team again. He comes like him,
He comes into Uncork a wild pitch, his Mets debut,
though it's Mets debut because he never paid.
Speaker 3 (15:12):
He came in.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
They let him go, they let him got him again,
they let him go, they picked him up, they traded
Mets debut, wild pitch, base hit.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
Game is tied. Now the Marlins take a two to
one lead in the ninth inning. However, the rain comes
and now it is absolutely pouring in New York. So
likely what's gonna happen is they're gonna have to suspend
this game because the Marlins have to leave town.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
The rain is just awful in New York. It's not
stopping anytime soon. They're gonna have to leave, go play
their three games this weekend, and if it still matters,
they'll come back to New York on Monday and play
the last the rest of the top of the ninth
inning and the bottom of the ninth inning. So here's
the Mets.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
The Mets.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
Maybe the point where this season can't get over fast
enough for it No no, you may have to come
back on Monday just for an and a half.
Speaker 3 (15:59):
Well, I have to come back from Pittsburgh. But yeah,
I mean it all started with that debacle of taking
not taking care of the field. How much of it
is residual effects? Yeah, well, well tonight the other day
they could have split it where they could have played together.
But tonight, I mean, you're not playing with his rain
right now. I mean it's just not gonna stop. But
you didn't cover the field before the series all of
that damage. Yes, I'm not saying, well, the Mets thought, hey,
(16:23):
they wrote an apology. Yeah, well, here's the thing is,
the Mets thought, well, you know, we do need some rain,
because certain fields do need rain. Sure, but it's like, okay,
this was during a hurricane. You think you want to
let it's gonna be a lot of rain. Let's cover
that field. Guess what, You've got to sprinkler systems.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
So the Mets screwing the Marlins over again, and now
the weather's screwing the Marlins over So now, seriously, the Marlins,
you have to come back. But at least I'm gonna
semi get a playoff game with the Mets, right because
that's kind of a play. If they have to play
it Monday, it means the Marlins have to win to
move on to the play because the screw.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
Job for the Marlins is they can't eat. Like at
some point they've got to call this relatively early because
they haven't an afternoon. Oh yeah, you know, they're gonna
have to figure this out like early one of those
six o'clock twilight kind of starts. But that is that
is I mean, this is basically a Mets playoff game
on Monday. I'm getting the Mets playoff on Monday. Basically
(17:16):
is hey, well it is, I mean, because they can
screw over the Marls. I mean, while it means nothing
to them except but it's not the spoiler. It's a
win and go home game. That's what it's called going
home regardless. Right, That's why it's a win and go
home game. They win, they go home. If we win, every.
Speaker 1 (17:33):
Everybody goes home, and if you lose, you go home
to Right. That's why let's say it's win or lose
and go home. That's okay, or lose and go home.
That's that's what's the or lose much smaller font win
or lose and go home no matter what. Regardless win
and losing, go home. It's making it too long. Okay,
win and lose and go home. Win, lose and go home.
(17:54):
Win or lose.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
Forget it. We're done. Win or losing, go home. That's
what it is.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
And it's just we suck. And it could be a winner,
win or go home game for the Marlins in February,
it could be a win or go home, win, lose
and go home.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
That's the game. Remember to watch Taylor Swift and the Jets.
All right, Marlins and the Mets win or go home,
win or lose, end, go home game. That's what we
call it. There you go. It's a lot of stuff.
Yeah you really added layers to it. But yeah, the
Marlins kind of get screwed. Yes, oh yeah yeah, but
will a couple of days, man, I will say this
if the Mets can take at least one nle's team
(18:27):
out of the playoff, because every year I gotta watch
NLL's teams, not name the Mets go to the World Series.
I gotta watch the Nationals do it. I gotta watch
the Braves do it. I gotta watch the Phillies do it.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
Now I'm gonna have to watch potential the Phillies, the
Marlins or the Braves do it again.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
Everybody but me, everybody but me gets to go. Yeah.
But here's the thing. You could take some solace in
ready for this, No what the season, you will help
propel them to those lofty heights. You were a good helper.
Win and go home, win or lose and go home.
That's the game on Monday. That's that's something I'm thinking
positive about that. That's the game.
Speaker 4 (19:00):
We're just spring training twenty twenty four.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
If that is true, well, all this all the anger
though of like, look, man, this has this game now
has meaning because we can send one of our division,
right we should.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
Yeah, we should broadcast live from that ninth inning of
that game lively.
Speaker 4 (19:14):
We're not even gonna roll on that game here, No, no, no,
it could be.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
It could be a big game. It could be a
big thig about that. Everybody, Hey, come back to the
ballpark for what could be four minutes of action.
Speaker 4 (19:23):
There were like a thousand people maybe there today and
they'll be less than out on Monday.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
Youskin coming into play. The Marlins have first and second
with two outs on the top of the ninth. Right,
you could be there going for four outs. I bet
you the Metal Lake they like tickets free.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
Hey, I'm gonna go, I gotta I gotta take a
long lunch. What are you doing? I'm gonna go watch
a baseball game for how long? What do you mean?
Speaker 1 (19:41):
How about twenty minutes? Yeah, twenty five minutes? Could be
twenty minutes.
Speaker 3 (19:45):
And look, I mean they look how proud they were
rob manfor and everything else burning around him. Uh in
terms of some of the decisions he's made. But you
know that pace of play man. Only nine games longer
than three hours thirty minutes this year.
Speaker 4 (19:59):
Will give you a her reserve Verlander money if you
come out watch.
Speaker 1 (20:04):
So that's the first part. But you want to talk
about getting screwed. Yeah, the Phillies game tonight, My goodness,
there's a reason why Angel Hernandez is trending on Twitter now.
For the Phillies, it didn't really matter. The Phillies have
clinched the playoffs with birth already. They lose to the
Pirates three to two. Bryce Harper gets called out on
(20:25):
a check swing. Angel hernandez worst umpire ever is the
third base umpire. Now you hear or see Angel Hernandez
trending and you think, oh yeah, here's another one. You
see a lot of people saying, oh my god, Angel
Hanna is with the worst call ever. Then you look
at the play of this and you go, yes, I
agree this time. This was the worst call ever. It
(20:46):
was not even close to a swing by Bryce Harper
on a ball in the dirt. Yet, Angel Hernandez decides
people to come to the ballpark to watch me umpire.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
I get there this year too.
Speaker 7 (20:57):
Pitch slow it in the ball.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
They said he went around.
Speaker 7 (21:02):
Oh oh, he's gonna be out of this game. If
he keeps this up, he is out of this game.
I gotta tell you, naked eye, he did not swig
it though. That's he's gonna stand in.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
Man wants to play, all right, Well, they're not gonna talk.
We're done.
Speaker 1 (21:41):
NBC Sports Philadelphia, with the lack of describing what was happening,
something gotta do it for he's gonna be gone. Harper
was losing his mind. If you see the replay, it's
not even close to a check swing. The ball is
in the dirt. Hernandez says, he goes around, Harper loses
his mind, and I really thought he was good. He's
walking up all the way to Angel Hernandez like he's
(22:02):
gonna hit him. I really thought he was gonna hit him.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
This was like last night. He's like Hector nearis. Yeah,
it's like last night. What's going on here? He makes
a bee line for Hernandez, who stands behind the bag,
and I thought, I said, Harper's gonna hit this guy.
He's gonna hit He's gonna hit him. He's gonna hit him,
and people are gonna go good. I'm glad he hit him.
This guy sucks. I really thought he was going to
He gets in his face and he's screaming at him.
He has to be pulled away from Angel Hernandez. That
(22:25):
is what I mean. Look, I look at him, go
that's just an awful call. And that's Angel Hernandez who
just is continuing to do Angel Hernandez things. He gets
so mad he throws his helmet in the crowd, but
on his way up. It was crazy and he didn't
calm down after the game. Here's Bryce Harper postgame talking
about that what went on with Angel Hernandez.
Speaker 6 (22:47):
Every time I get thrown out, I mean, it's just
it's over and over right, Like you do something on
the field and it's like, oh, you did it wrong,
or you take a pitch you know, over the plate
and it's a ball and I get thrown out. It's
my fault, you know, It's just you know, so I
understand you have to live up to a certain you know,
a big leaguer of mentality, right, you have to you
have to act like you have to show that.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
So I understand that.
Speaker 6 (23:09):
But at the same time, it's just when there's a
call that bad or something happens, it's just I think
it's wrong for both sides, right, you know, hitting, pitching, anything,
And there's times where it's warranted and there's times where
it's not.
Speaker 4 (23:23):
He didn't say an you did it.
Speaker 6 (23:25):
You just told me if I saw the replay that,
you know, I would know that.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
I was wrong. So let's go to v AR.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
Yeah, so you can see the replie.
Speaker 3 (23:36):
I didn't need to see the replay, but you didn't.
If you want to look at the replay, you will
see there wasn't even anything close to a swing. It's
so bad. And really, you know, I know, it's kind
of like it's we say this all the time. How
major League Baseball continues to allow him to umpire is
just insane. And I don't know if it's.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
The point where MLB thinks, well, this guy's so bad,
but if we take him out, it looks like the
players and teams have made us remove an umpire. So
now if there's another guy that stinks that's really bad,
and then we're gonna they're.
Speaker 3 (24:07):
The next guy.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
Guy, that's it means the way it works this is
I mean, look, Bryce Harper is wrong in fact that
you look at what he did.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
Does he need to get thrown out? Yeah, you can't
do you should do that. I mean that's where he says, Listen,
I had to earn that ejection, and he did because
you go storming up to the umpire argument balls and strike.
Cause what's the one thing can argue balls and strikes? Right,
that's it.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
You argue balls and strikes, you know you're getting thrown out.
So that's where Bryce Harper has to understand. Listen, I
knew what was gonna happen. I just couldn't control myself,
especially when you sprint down to third base.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
No right, because that's not turning turning around at the
home plane umpire going Really they're not gonna let say,
you go running ninety feet down there. They're cursing him
out the entire way. No, they're not gonna let they're
not gonna let you stay. I mean there whether you hey,
but I was, I was in the right here, Yeah
you were. But you can't do that, you can't stay it.
But yeah, it Look, it comes down to how powerful
(24:58):
is the umpires you how much do they not want
to shake things up over on Park Avenue? Is do
they think that the controversy is good because all of
these are theories and all of them stink, but the
wrong theories they have to put out right. Well, man,
you know, the umpire is arguing like it's it's clicks,
it's videos, it's impressions, because there's some excitement in what
(25:21):
might have been an otherwise nondescript game. But when it's
consistently you know, this guy rates really badly, and he
does things terribly, and he adjudicates things like this that
are just egregious that at some points, like yeah, the
last guy does get fired. This happens in companies, it
happens at schools everywhere. Hey, bottom couple of percent, it's
(25:43):
time to tell him to go somewhere else. It's Dion
Sanders walking into a locker room going look her ound. Yeah,
it's time to get into transfer portal. That's kind of
what we're at here with Angel Ornandez. I don't know
where he transfers to. Might be in somebody's softball league,
and maybe I just subjected you, you and your your
beer league softball game to his terrible umpiring. But that's
(26:05):
where we need to be. If you're last, you're gone
Twitter and out about a fresco.
Speaker 1 (26:11):

trending in the wide world of sports. To a guy
who has been called the Angel Hernandez of Update Anchors,
Wow Special Delivery, Steve the Seger.
Speaker 3 (26:40):
That's that's not a compliment. How many times after show
off your job.
Speaker 1 (26:44):
How many times after to watch people coming and argue
with you after your updated.
Speaker 3 (26:47):
That happens all the time. They want to ye, who's
gonna throw you out?
Speaker 2 (26:51):
Right now?
Speaker 5 (26:52):
Actually, Angel and is his union members, so there's the
correlation doesn't go at all there. That's probably the only
reason he has his job, honestly, right.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
That was one of the things I rattled up here.
The union will protect me. We can't come after this guy.
Speaker 5 (27:07):
By the way, as Bryce Harper was tossed and threw
his batting helmet into the crowd, a ten year old
caught it, and the Philly Inquirer says during the game,
a few security guards approached the kids said, Bryce Harper
wants to sign it for you.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
Wow. Angel Hernandez sucks sincerely, Bryce Harper.
Speaker 4 (27:29):
Yeah, you need to get that thing signed by Angel
Hernandez too, right, That's how I got it.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
Yeah, that's how I got it. Yeah, that would be
a keeper. Absolutely, that's very cool. That's very very cool.
I know, he's got a beautiful signature. That's long long time.
Do you think if the kid walked up to Angel
Hernandez to sign it, we would throw the kid out
of the game. You're out you're done. Why are you
mocking me? Get out of here. There will either be
a check or a swing. I believe if you watch
the replay you will see yeah, yeah, okay.
Speaker 5 (27:55):
As far as the Mets home game, rain delay was
nearly an hour ago and the Mets were up one
nothing going into the ninth. The chance of rain is
listed at at least ninety percent for most of the evening,
one hundred percent by three am Eastern time, So I
don't know if the Marlins are gonna be getting this
game in.
Speaker 3 (28:13):
They do lead.
Speaker 5 (28:14):
To one over the Mets with the two runs top
of the ninth. As you mentioned, they are a couple
outs in the ninth. They're still batting the visitors. But
as we started play tonight, the Marlins and the Cubs
were tied for the final NL wild card and Atlanta
has beaten the Cubs five to three. Matt Olson It's
fifty fourth home run. He is one hundred and thirty
six runs batted in in progress. It's Rockies nine to
(28:38):
four over the Dodgers in the bottom of the seventh
and a game of notes. The Rangers are leading at
Seattle to nothing in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Mariners have lost five of their last six games. That
started a four game series to end the regular season.
It ends on Sunday. Baltimore clinched the AL East title
to nothing over Boston. They clinched the one seed in
(28:58):
the American League. Chris Bassett and Toronto shut out the
Yankees six nothing. Bassett sixteen and eight for the Blue Jays.
He had twelve strikeouts in seven and two third innings. Today,
the White Sox beat Arizona three to one in a
game where each team had just three hits. Diamondback's magic
number to clinch a playoffs spot, though, is now down
to one as the Cubs did lose again. Updating the
(29:21):
NFL game, which let's just say, if you're not watching
for the most of the the night, not been worth watching. However,
we do have a couple of scores from Jordan Love,
a TD pass and a TD run in the second half.
So what was Lyons twenty seven to three at the
half is now twenty seven to seventeen and Green Bay
is going for two again. They were just stopped about
(29:41):
a foot short of the goal line, so.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
Jordan Love just got pancaked trying to get in the
end zone of the two. That's a that's a scale
like I want him to get to but wow, he
I mean he runs right into the defender and gets clotheslined.
Speaker 3 (29:58):
Oh we may have like, no, he already down down, Yeah,
but where's the ball? When he reached out the ball
to the goal line after both Theeds tried to Walter
Payton face like, I'm down, but I'm going to reach it.
Speaker 5 (30:10):
It's a scoring play that I look at it or
not scoring play, as it turns out, he listen, it's short.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
It's lambeau Field on a Thursday night, and it turns
it into a one score game.
Speaker 4 (30:20):
Hey guys, Angel Ornando says, it's a touchdown.
Speaker 3 (30:22):
That's right anyway.
Speaker 5 (30:24):
He stopped short for sure, and the Lions lead is
twenty seven to seventeen Love with one touchdown pass, one interception,
one touchdown run. Aaron Jones is playing active tonight after
the hamstring injury, but five carries eighteen yards. David Montgomery
returned from a thigh injury for the Lions, had a
couple of short touchdown runs. He's up to nineteen carries
(30:45):
sixty nine yards. Detroit by ten early fourth Quarterback to you.
Speaker 1 (30:50):

Speaker 3 (31:13):

Speaker 1 (31:13):
It's a two score game. Lions lead the Packers twenty
seven to seventeen. They're about to get the football back.
Jordan Love heating up a little bit here in the
second half. Love more on this game and a big
moment in sports tonight to celebrate. Keep it right here, Jason,

Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon live from the tire rack dot Com Studios.
Nine minutes to go in the fourth quarter, the Lions
on the cusp of another score that could increase their
lead to at least thirteen. On a third and nine play,
they give the ball the Jamiir Gibbs, who gets about seven.
Speaker 3 (32:47):
Hey, keeps his average out.
Speaker 1 (32:49):
Yeah, he's averaging seven yards of carry for some reason,
and he's not getting the ball, And David Montgomery's averaging
three yards of carry and still gets the football. He
falls two yards short of the first down, and you're wondering,
why would you have a run call on third and
nine because the Lions are going for it here on
fourth and three from the Packers fifteen yard line. It
(33:13):
is fourth and three. Uh Dan Campbell saying screw it.
We could kick a field goal, we could go up
by thirteen, but instead we're gonna go for it. We're
gonna try to draw him off side, but instead it
looks like that's what's happening, attempting to draw them off sides.
The clock ticks down to zero, so the field goal
unit will likely come out for the Lions. Although there
is a time out on the field. They didn't let
(33:34):
the clock tick all the way down. They called the
time out to get the field goal unit onto the field.
So they're going to kick a field goal.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
Which if you're kicking from the fifteen yard line, do
you really need to call the time out? Why wouldn't
you save the time out? Riley Patterson, I mean, you're
you're talking about it. It's thirty five or forty yards.
That's a gimme, that's a gimm you need to call time.
That's the guy in your friend group that when you
go out. Yeah, decides he needs to be mister big shot.
Throw an extra twe over the top. I got it, despair,
(34:02):
she didn't get.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
Jab Josh McDaniels actually called down to kick the field goal.
Speaker 3 (34:07):
I mean it was. It would have been a thirty
two yard field goal, and instead they call timeout, and
now it's a thirty seven yard field goal, which that's nothing.
It's not like, hey, it was a forty five yard
of to turn into a fifty two yard forty nine
yards a fifty six yarder. No, it's just this is
you went from thirty to thirty five. It is what
it would have done. You could have take you could
have taken the time. Now, who knows if they need
(34:27):
the timeout because they're going to be up thirteen, but
the Packers' offense has been heating up. It's still going
to be a two score game as long as Patterson
makes this field goal, and the Lions are going to
try to have to hold onto this league. You never
know when need to time out. My Carmen, just as
Vic Fangio, he knows he saves all those He's sitting
there right now at home watch this game, going look
at all these timeouts on my wall, stacks of them
on my wall, you know, you know, like Kirk Cousins
(34:49):
has that room with all his trophies in it, the
fake room, Like Vic Fangio has the fake room with
all his timeouts. And look all these timeouts interviews when
I was a head coach. I'm all right here, all
those games painted with his stats in there.
Speaker 5 (35:01):
All.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
Yeah, there's a three timeouts in that Thursday night game.
That really made me. They fired me.
Speaker 3 (35:07):
They fired me for Nathaniel hackett Man because of those
three timeouts. That's awesome. So field goal is up and
good for Patterson making a thirty seventeen game again. Still
a lot of time left here, eight and a half
to go in the fourth quarter, but big night. In
Major League Baseballly talked about the Bryce Harper situation, which
was just absolutely insane. However, we do have to give
(35:28):
some props here because this is an absolutely great story.
Well for anybody, well if you're not a Yankee fan's
a great story. The Baltimore Orioles, Yeah, with win number
one hundred on the season, have clinched the American League East.
They will be going into the playoffs as a l
East champions. Now, why are you saying this, Jason, Because
(35:49):
if you remember, go all the way back three and
a half months when the Rays were running rough shot
over everybody in the American League, and look at the
run differentials forgetting everybody. Yeah, and I told you everybody's
talking about the Rays. The Rays have been great. Look
at the Rays. It looks so dominant all they have done.
And the Orioles are right there. There were five games out.
(36:10):
I remember when there were five games out. You watch
all this great stuff the Rays have done. Orioles are
five games out. Trust me, the Orioles are going to
win this division. The Oriols gonna win this division because
they're the better team. And they're not a team that
goes high low. They're a young team that has a
great mentality and they go about the game in that
kind of way. It's not a team that, hey, we're
(36:30):
so high after three in a row, we get low
after we lose four in a row. No, they have
been a very workmanlike team all year long. It is
a fantastic team and it's a fantastic team to root for.
And I told you five games down, watch the Orioles
win this division. And here they are a last division
g Yeah, I couldn't have predicted that the Rays would
lose one of their young stars to well wherever that
(36:53):
is in the legal processes right now in wander Fronco.
But certainly an unsustainable start to the year and over
the course of the season, some flaws, some downturns, whatever.
But to your point about the Orioles Men young squad,
you don't know what you don't know, right, I mean
Santander's twenty eight, He's one of your elder statesmen in
(37:15):
your lineup. Right when you start looking at Henderson and
Rutchman Mountcastle, I mean a lot of young players that
are in that twenty home run club for this year
and driving in runs. And there's more help coming through
the minor leagues, right because they held off on trading
any of those prospects. So still so much damage to
(37:36):
be done, but good balance throughout the lineup, and you're
not looking for one guy and leaning on one guy
to be a hero. And I think that's one of
the great things you know about this squad as it
is about team. You know, we joke about our baseball
movies of the past, DeNiro walking around with the bat
in his hands, that's not really a baseball movie, but okay,
I'm always baseball. The scene is key, yeah right, you
(38:00):
get down to it. Well, you know it's a cinema,
a time for what a time for individual achievement. In
this case, you know you look at like, I mean
little get the angels, right, you had two guys then
you basically were hoping to carry him and Trout got hurt,
couldn't stay on the field and show hey, took his
stuff and left his water bottle in the trash. So
(38:22):
how did that moment sound with the once suspended then
reinstated Kevin Brown, not that Kevin Brown, the other Kevin Brown.
All you suspended me for saying we're not playing, so well,
this is how it sounded. The Orioles winning the ALE
East for a moment like this, but one won.
Speaker 2 (38:38):
The story is crowded. A third ramon.
Speaker 3 (38:40):
Oreos from third feel from.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
Go Crazy, Baltimore. You are the new champions of the
American League East.
Speaker 3 (38:54):
So there was Orioles Radio Network on the call, go crazy, folks,
Go crazy. Some people wait in a lifetime for a
moment like this. I think that's kind of.
Speaker 1 (39:02):
What's really waiting to hear Kelly Clarkson there a little bit.
It's about time for that song to come back into Hey,
it's been twenty years, Okay, let's.
Speaker 3 (39:11):
Bring it back. It's been Yeah. But you know what,
just you know, to tie it all together, I mean,
you wait for these moments and and for the Orioles.
I mean, that's a lot of suffering. So there's hope
for you, Jet saying, look to tell you because I
know there is.
Speaker 1 (39:29):
So incredibly ip for the Orioles. Right It's Baseball is
much better when your heritage teams start winning and they're
doing well. And the Orioles are a long standing team
that finished last place for a lot of years. I've
never been able to get over the hump. And you know, look,
especially in the in the wake of Brooks Robinson, the
passing of him, I think America is going to be
Orioles fans in the playoffs this year. That's going to
(39:49):
be something.
Speaker 3 (39:50):
No certainly, you know, we look at just again the
classic logo, the memories of what cal Ripken was and
for me, the ballpark and you know when the White
Sox didn't use it and it went to Baltimore and
then you know, the greatness of Eddie Murray Murphy, Murray,
Eddie Murray, y Murray, not Eddie Murphy, Eddie Murphy. That
(40:11):
was going for a joke, and and you know I
left it. That's all right.
Speaker 1 (40:15):
Uh So I hope you got those Orioles futures when
I told you five games out there, they are alias champs.
Speaker 3 (40:23):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (40:24):
We have big drama right now at Lambeau. The field
goal is off the board. Why we'll tell you next
Fox
