Let's give this part. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:29):

should be. Well, here we are Lakers Pelicans, the last game.
The winner gets into the finals of the in season tournament.
(00:59):
And by the way, we have an NFL game tonight
that I was gonna hit the over any moment.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Now, all this.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Under thirty points for the Patriots and the Steelers, and
hey man, this is twenty four ten at a half time.
Wait a minute, we're seeing so twenty one time, we're
seeing some points scored here. Now, yeah, we already hit
the over. I thought there was already two. No, I thought,
I thought it got to thirty two today.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
I thought, if you.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Bet it at thirty two, you're an idiot, because it
was under thirty all week.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
It was at thirty and a half or lower. So
if you waited until it and I didn't see that
it went to thirty two. But if it did and
you're holding that ticket, you're a dummy.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
You're all legitimately if you had that price all week,
record lows like the temperatures will be in many of
these cities, including those participating here tonight on Thursday night football,
that if you wait until it rose, no, no, no,
you're banned from gambling or they or they should just
(01:57):
send a jet for you now because you make really
bad decisions. Well, I mean, look, it's that if you
were watching Iowa, you kept betting the under all the
way along.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
You kept winning, all right, so what why not?
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Of course it's gonna work this way, Oh, Iowa kept
going under, kept going on. Of course this game is
gonna be under. Nope, not getting the under, not getting
the under in this.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
No, I mean just because the colors are the same
as Iowa, this doesn't mean it always translates the same way.
I mean, did you see that dime that Kenny piket
through to give you the over?
Speaker 3 (02:27):
Too soon? Too soon, buddy. I'm sorry, Mitchell Trubisky, too soon, buddy.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
I even took Kenny because I had him on the
brain all day long. Yeah, I guy Mitchell Trubisky with
the A.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Jason, you don't do the math. That's so good?
Speaker 4 (02:43):
Yeah, your math and my name recognition. Uh, can we
just do get get a due over?
Speaker 3 (02:48):
All right? So apparently Frostburg bet the over under at
thirty two. Uh we know that. And uh, you don't
nearly like Mitchell Trubisky as much as you say you do.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
I love that throw.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
Well, No, I was arguing when Jason cole our buddy
on Twitter already, He's like, ah, you know, what's he
even doing on the field. I'm like, did you not
see that throw? He goes, yeah, The problem is I
saw the other ones. There's something to be said for
that when your defense can basically set up seven to
eight yards off the line of scrimmage, and no, they
(03:18):
don't have to backpedal because you're not gonna throw it
over the top.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
So far in this game, we'll be able to go
at the NFL game first. It has been the Bailey's
Appy Show. Two hundred yards, three touchdowns in the first half,
Patriots two and ten, and right now fans are going, well,
we're blowing our chance with the number one pick by
winning this game over the Steelers. Yeah, apparently Bill Belichick's deciding, well,
if I really want to get traded in the offseason,
(03:43):
I gotta start putting some good games on tape. Everybody's
watching this. It's a national game on Thursday night. All right,
I'm gonna coach tonight instead of tanking and everything going
on and I've been instead of ruining the franchise, which
is what I've been doing for the last three plus
years since Brady left, No, I'm actually gonna try tonight. Hey,
look at what's going on right down the field for
a touchdown the first time they had the ball twenty
one in the first half. Despite the fact they're missing
(04:05):
their best player, Ormandre Stevenson. This has been This has
been a Patriot's awakening, and I really am Belichick has
now decided, Okay, I really need you know, my stock
is at an all time low. I gotta pump it
up if I'm gonna get traded. This is the Belichick
Thursday Night. Hey, it's okay to trade for me game.
That's what this is.
Speaker 4 (04:22):
Yes, yeah, I thought it was the uh you know
now that you've gotten the good will because people are
on board with you, saying, all right, you you really
can tank when you want, can't you? And he said, okay,
now I'm gonna put in Bailey Zappy and watch what
this offense can do. And Hunter Henry has been fantastic.
Ezekiel Elliott was great on that first drive. I just
(04:43):
wish I'd had the guts to start him in fantasy
like I recommend it on the iwatcher Flexa podcast. I
didn't follow my own advice. I had better options, but
it would have been nice to have a guy starting
on a Thursday night just if I gotta watch it,
might as well have a little in the game. But yeah,
for Bill Belichick, I mean, look, he's gonna do this
(05:05):
that he's the guest picker for Army Navy on Saturday.
I mean, he's just living life.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Let's go Bill Belichick. How do you see this game.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
Maybe it's one word and done.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
Thank you, Bill appreciate is that it? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (05:19):
All right, hey that was Bill Belichick. Everybody ever ready
collapse for him. Yeah, that's great, that's great.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
But legitimately, the first question, and the second question, maybe
the third, it's gonna be why the hell wasn't this
guy quarterbacking all along?
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Well, because well, let me tell you, let me tell you,
Page will tell you.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
So let me tell you about Bill Belichick.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
And the reports today that were all about what other
NFL executives were saying about the compensation for Belichick should
he most likely leave the pages at the end of
this season, and a few gms and front office execs
said they could see the price tag getting to be
as much as a first round pick to get Bill
(05:59):
bell Belichick as your head coach. Right now here tonight
the Patriots are out with their best game of the year.
You know, I tell you, I go back and forth
every all the time. First of all, I say, I
don't know why you would want Bill Belichick because you're
not getting the Bill Bellie. Everybody sees Bill Belichick and thinks, oh,
it's going to like the Super Bowl years with Brady
all the time. No, it's the last three years without Brady,
(06:19):
how bad the team has been, and how much he
has pushed this team into disrepair because he's drafted poorly,
he has analyzed and broken down positions poorly, He's not
had the right coaches in position, he's not made great
decisions on the field. This is the guy who would
have been fired already, probably a year and a half ago.
But it's Bill Belichick, so he gets all the chances.
But I'm telling you, man, I keep going back and
(06:41):
forth with you know, he's lost his fastball. He's absolutely
lost his fastball. And he's not the same guy too.
Maybe he is really to Maybe he just doesn't want
anybody to. Brady left and everybody hates the fact Brady.
They all blame me. So you know what, if I
can't win, nobody gets to win. So now no, So
now we're gonna be a bad team for three years
till I find my way out, go someplace elsewhere, because
(07:02):
I really can't believe that suddenly he has lost the
art of coaching overnight like he has. And yes, he
did have the plays with Spygate. He did have Tom
Brady who covered up a lot of things. But boy,
this has been such a fast and precipitous fall for
Bill Belichick.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
I almost feel either he's lost his fastball, which.
Speaker 1 (07:19):
Is bad, or he's really tanking and saying we're not
trying to win because I don't want to win. I
don't care about it, just going through the motions, which
I can't believe he's doing that either. But one of
those things is what's happening now, and I see tonight
that here are the Patriots playing their best game of
the season. Offense looks great, their defense is fantastic. They're
stopping Pittsburgh from running the football. Trubisky's had a couple
of scrambles, which has helped them out a little bit,
(07:40):
but they're stopping them offensively. And yet wait, but they
can't win more games than this. And this is a
Pittsburgh team that's pretty good. Despite the fact they have
bad quarterback issues and Trubisky is not very good, this
is still a good team that's found a way to
win games, that's run the ball well, and Najie Harris
has played well the last few weeks, and Jalen Warren's
been really good, and they found a way to do
it and score enough points, the change on offense from
(08:01):
the offensive coordinator, Hey, four hundred yards two weeks ago,
things are great, And now this is what's happening on
Thursday night. It's like, is he trying now? Like, really,
is he trying? Now? He's saying it's safe to trade
for me, everybody, it is safe to trade for me
in the offseason.
Speaker 4 (08:14):
Well, the trade compensation is a fun little piece and
rinkle to it, all right, in terms of what you
believe Belichick is. I've still tried to keep that separation
of church and state between Belichick the coach once the
fifty three has been decided versus the guy that's deciding
the fifty three, because that guy's been pretty bad in
(08:36):
many many spots. Yeah, but the coach, I mean, look
what the defense is, even with JC Jackson, who is
really one of the guys I want to thirty for
thirty on this guy, all right, he's all world. Gets
the contract with the Chargers once they tell him to
beat it to Lesco's like, yeah, that was a mistake.
(08:56):
And then he comes back and it hasn't been all
sunshine and you know, lollipops and rainbows. As a member
of the Patriots because he'd been left home, right, remember
they went Overseas, they left him at home. So and
then he comes back out and he's playing good football here.
So that that's a great enigma to it. But the
defense has been lights out. If you could put anything
offensively together, then it makes sense. And even go back
(09:19):
to last year, Eh, you were a defensive guy, right
a watch you bear offensive corner?
Speaker 3 (09:23):
Go do that?
Speaker 4 (09:25):
Uh ond that workout is a disaster. And then this
year Mac Jones Alabama. Mack was supposed to be back,
but guess what, you still had a bunch of busters
on the outside. Although Douglas looked pretty good in spots,
and you got a three headed monster at tight end.
Well most of those guys. Those guys haven't been healthy
all year. And Hunter Henry when he did in what
he is, you look at what a red zone target
(09:47):
he is as he you know, had that great That
second touchdown catch was tremendous. That ball should have been
tipped away or or intercepted. But that's a whole other thing.
It all counts just the same in the box score.
But the coach, I don't deny that. I think he's
a good coach to the other stuff someone needs to,
you know, take the reins on actually picking the players, for.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
Everybody picked the guys before, though nobody else was picking
the players during the dynasty, he was picking.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
But Tom Brady wipes error.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
Yeah, I mean, but okay, right, but when we talk.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
About just the difference of you know, what we're lining
up around. If you've got a quarterback, then then that
range becomes.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
A lot bigger. The variability of how good the wide
receivers are. Now it's just all right, can you get
into the spot? Can you be u Can you work
through the route tree and work on your timing? With Brady,
you didn't have to be great. And I take nothing
away from those receivers. All of those guys played their role.
Speaker 4 (10:46):
And obviously Gronkowski, you know, our guy was fantastic. Right,
But when you have a quarterback and we see it
all across the league, you got a guy that can
make plays, it erases a lot of ills really fast.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
Jason.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
Yeah, but at this I've seen the last three years
is what you're gonna get right. You don't get in
the way back machine. And look, coaching can be like playing,
where you lose your edge, you lose the effectiveness that
you were, and whether he's whether he has decided. I
don't care if anybody wins or I've lost my edge. Yeah,
I got no interest. Bill Belichick's available, that's great, good luck.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
You go get him.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
You go pay a first round pick to go get
him and see how much better things are there. See
if he does better picking the groceries and and and
getting a good.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
Team on the field.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
He's had chances, he had chances, he had draft picks,
he had free agency, he's had everything.
Speaker 4 (11:34):
But now get to pick. Yeah, but doesn't that it's
all about beating Mike Tomlin. He decided, and he was
on the graphic he had tonight it is.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
He was on the grad You're right, he was. He
knew tonight had to be a big night. But he
was a guy that wanted Alabama.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
Mac.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
Now, Mac Jones is the guy. Mac Jones is the guy.
We're taking him in the first round. He's the guy.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
These are all his decisions.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
So yeah, well, you know, well you look at it
and go, okay, I see the career he's yeah, you know,
I mean, I remember when Joe Gibbs came back after
he was coaching for so long. I mean, I'm sorry,
not that I think he would show up at Jets
and do any worse. But still, if I'm another team
in the NFL, it's gonna be Hey, you're paying them
a lot of money, and I'm giving up a first
round pick, and there's coaches I give up a first
(12:16):
round pick for. I would have done that for Belichick,
but I'm not doing it now. You would do that
right now?
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Oh well, Robert? Yeah, Well have your quarterback.
Speaker 4 (12:26):
Right, You've got you know, Aaron Rodgers against Science. You've
got a couple of good skilled position guys. You got
a pretty good tight end in Conklin. Go figure out
the offensive line, that defense.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
With that guy coaching it.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
Come on, Nah, Still, all these years later, he can
walk back to the podium. Look, I taped together that napkin.
Then I ripped up all those years ago he would go.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
There's not much he wouldn't do.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
He would just sabotage us. You thought this looks bad?
Why is the people he's traded. I've traded Breesol and
Garrett Wilson to the Chargers in exchange for Isaiah Spiller.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
Wait what yeah? Yeah that went down? That's sorry.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
Yeah, we really like Isaiah Spiller, so we're gonna go
get No, No, he would just sabotage Jets because he
hates them.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
He wouldn't say this if we could somehow make this
work just for reality television sake, where he had to
work with David Tepper for one year and you just
stop over before he goes to the Vikings, you know,
before you can go pick your new spot, you have
to go to a team that's really bad with an
(13:29):
owner you hate you after a week.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
I'm not saying it won't be interesting and that wouldn't
be fun, But I don't want him as a I
don't want him. Come on, man, you no, white, don't
are you kidd he'd bring Bill O'Brien with him.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
Forget it, man, I'm not.
Speaker 4 (13:44):
As he doesn't have the ability to hit the red
plunger that says trade this man, it'll be okay.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
You want him for a day? Oh too soon?
Speaker 1 (13:55):
Oh yeah, too soon, too soon, although it would be
longer than than Aaron Rodgers with the Jets, so there
would be that yeah.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
No, yeah, I can't believe I'm saying that.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
Like five years ago, he said to me, if you
could get Bill Belichick and it's only a first round pick.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
I would have said, yes. Now I'm like, no way,
no way, keep him.
Speaker 4 (14:12):
Good luck, good luck, well, especially now that you've played
your way into the top ten.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
Good luck. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
But now we got Zach Wilson is back again, you know.
So it's fine, it's his all. It's all gonna work out.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
Is he really back.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
Somebody's got to take the snap and start the game.
Can't just snap it right to Breese Hall or Garrett Wilson,
although that might be an.
Speaker 4 (14:30):
Remember the timeline of everything leaking and then them cutting
the guy that started Sunday.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
I kid you not.
Speaker 5 (14:36):
When we played you guys, your best play was a
direct snap to Breese Hall.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
Yeah, oh yeah, it was yeah yeah. And our best
player was our punter. Just like most of the.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
Season's been, it's been great, good It's what a great year.
I still and you know, and I still don't want Belichick.
I still don't want him. He'd make it even worse,
even worse. Twenty one to ten. Patriots lead the Steelers
right now. They have the football midway through the third quarter,
though they are punting Bailey's he was just sacked on
third down. So the Steelers end, Mitch Trubisky will get
(15:06):
the ball back. Meanwhile, Lakers and the Pelicans. Lakers lead
this one. Remember the winner goes to the finals of
the in season tournament. About two minutes ago before halftime,
fifty seven to fifty one, Lebron shot out of a
cannon tonight. He has nineteen already. He is the only
player in double figures in the game. He is seven
(15:27):
out of nine from the floor and three out of
three from three point range. Lebron wants the end season
Tournament Pat O'Brien Trophy. He wants it, man, he wants
that trophy. Lot more on this game coming up next,
as well as a weird and shocking an awkward update
on one of the best teams in the NFL and
(15:47):
what one of their head coaches said to motivate his team.
That's just gotten out. It's crazy. It's next right here,
Jason and Mike. This is Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (16:40):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon Hobo, Happy Night, one of Honikah.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
Here's a list of people who are Jets.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
Just okay, I should know what you know what I
always want to do the Jets Honka song and just
go through a whole place, dumps players for like you know,
the last like fifty years to be fun like a
Jets verds just naming players and how bad they've been.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
It's always a market for parody songs if if done
reasonably well.
Speaker 5 (17:09):
So you're gonna make fun of the honka songs. Basically
what you're saying, No.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
I was just trying to make more money for Adam
Sandler by making a jets He needs more money. I
think he does. When's the last time he did uncut gems?
Speaker 3 (17:19):
Right? That's it, right, that's all he's.
Speaker 4 (17:21):
No, no, no, he's got like a lizard movie out
now called Leo that was really popular with the kids.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
Got a lizard movie going.
Speaker 4 (17:29):
Yeah, it's called Leo.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
I think that answered your question right there. No, he's
got a lizard movie.
Speaker 4 (17:35):
Why would you not go back to the animation side
of things. It's easy money. You track your voice for
about a week and you're done.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
He's got that lizard movie. Oh yes, yes, yeah, that's
gonna win back. That's there was Barbenheimer and the Lizard movie.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
It ain't about the oscars.
Speaker 3 (17:51):
Don't find Uh he got paid his check cleared. Do
you don't know how royalty works?
Speaker 4 (17:55):
Smith Bot Mitchell was fantastic.
Speaker 3 (18:00):
You don't know anything about.
Speaker 1 (18:02):
Royalty either, royalties royalty, not royalty royalty. I know, King, Queen, Prince, Princess, yeah, Courtchester,
all that stuff, fairly official food taster.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:11):
No, then there's Royal teas, which is money that say, uh,
you know, I'm saying he hasn't done anything sometimes I
was helping him with more money. Fine, then I'll do it.
Speaker 4 (18:18):
I think I think you're wrong though. I think he
just you know, misremembering. Yeah, the Jets don't help anybody.
Speaker 3 (18:25):
Yeah no, no, no they don't.
Speaker 4 (18:26):
They don't really well, but if you make it a
parody song where you're mocking the Jets, because it really
can't be anybody that achieved anything.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
Oh yeah, Harry was in.
Speaker 4 (18:34):
For you last night. He actually played really well. No no, no,
I can't have him part of the parody.
Speaker 1 (18:39):
No, no, it wouldn't be good things. It would be all
embarrassing things. And it would be like, hey, that's great.
How about you do a song for all other thirty
one NFL teams.
Speaker 3 (18:46):
Okay, we'll do that.
Speaker 1 (18:47):
Like last night, we were talking about, you know, some
some big moments and defensive tackles or whatever, and Vince
will Fork's name come up.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
I go, you know, he's one of my heroes, and
and I just smiled like you know why, and he
just looked at many mouthed words I can't say on.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
The air, Well, that's good. Good.
Speaker 4 (19:05):
Does you know exactly what you know? Could have been triggered?
Speaker 1 (19:09):
Then it would be the Jason Smith Show with Kerry
Rhodes because Mike Harmon would be fun.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
You couldn't say it.
Speaker 4 (19:13):
Oh, I didn't say it. He would have said.
Speaker 1 (19:16):

we're headed to the fourth quarter, mercifully between the Steelers
and the Patriots. Steelers have a chance to cut this
(19:38):
to a one score game. They just got a pick
on a tip pass from Bailey Zappi, but the New
England defense stiffens holds them.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
We're going to the fourth quarter. It's fourth down for Pittsburgh.
Speaker 1 (19:48):
It's fourth in a couple so potentially they could go
for it or field goal because they are deep in
PA territory, could cut this to a one score game. Meanwhile, halftime,
the Lakers lead the Pelicans sixty seven fifty four. The
winner goes to the finals of the in season tournament.
Lebron James has twenty one. He is an I Am
(20:11):
I know this is a hot take, my Carmon. He
is the goat of the all time NBA in season tournament.
There's nobody's ever been. Lebron is the goat of the
NBA in season tournament.
Speaker 4 (20:21):
I really like the way you went to that. I mean,
he's a man trying to add more accolades and and
and honors on his Wikipedia page and and for everybody
that stands for him at every turn. And this is
an opportunity because we know there's a tacit agreement to this.
You win this in season tournament, and he says, I'll
(20:41):
see you all after Christmas.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
We won, right, all right, great, I got some stuff
to do. And uh, you know what, Chris is gonna
stretch into New Year's New Year's.
Speaker 4 (20:50):
And you know what, I think I'm gonna take a
little bit of time off.
Speaker 1 (20:53):
I'll see right after the All Star break. That's it's
gonna be.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
I see.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
Actually, I just want another title. I won two titles
now in LA. I think I'm a title.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
Winner, you know. And look, let's get look to be
serious about this.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
I mean, obviously, Lebron James is the greatest nd season
tournament player of all time.
Speaker 4 (21:08):
Well, I don't know. Haliburton had twenty seven and fifteen
point fifteen assists today with seven one game.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
Lebron's been better overall. He's the goat man.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
He's the goat to The Pacers have already stamped their ticket.
Their passport has already been stamped to the finals. No,
I don't know if you know this or not. The
NBA is replacing the Pacers with the Knicks.
Speaker 4 (21:29):
They got to replace him with somebody good if you're gonna.
Speaker 3 (21:31):
Yeah, they yeah, they can't. They they saw the next
round the Knicks. They gave the Bucks. They gave the
Bucks the chance they lost.
Speaker 1 (21:37):
They're going to replace the Pacers with the Knicks because
they want Nicks Lakers in the n Season Tournament champions.
Speaker 4 (21:42):
Well, if Lillard hadn't gone and touched the damn trophy.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
That's his fault. Bad jazzed by him, that's bad.
Speaker 4 (21:48):
Chicken mess you up, that.
Speaker 1 (21:50):
Is his fa Now, look, I gotta say this about
the NCAA, the nc the NBA Tournament, the NBA n
Season Tournament. So far, Uh, they have done a phenomenal
job in turning this from something where everybody kind of
looks at it sideways, not sure what to make of
it into turning it into a thing. It's been a win, right,
(22:10):
It has been a win overall for the NBA. First
of all, I mean it doesn't need some fine tuning.
Yes it does, right, because obviously we told you why
not just have it after the holidays? Have it won
two and a half three week span and you're playing
the games all as one, and it's a tournament. Why
wouldn't you do it that way instead of every other
(22:31):
game being like this and you got to look at
the floor to see if it's an nd season tournament game.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
That's just stupid.
Speaker 1 (22:36):
But it works, and you have seen the players respond
to it. They're all very excited and surprised when you
put five hundred grand per player, Hey, you win this
tournament's an extra five hundred grand. Guys are going, hey,
wait a minute, man, all right, hey, al right, hey,
I'm in for this. What a surprise. You put money
on the table and suddenly everybody is playing like it's
a really, really big deal.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
This is a.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
Victory, and it's so much a victory for the NBA
that you are going to see within the next year
the other major sports who can.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
Do it are gonna do it.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
Now, it's hard for the NFL to do it middle
of We can't do an nd season NFL tournament, but
you are gonna see the NHL do it right away.
They're gonna find an nd season tournament to do as well.
MLS is gonna find a way if they can, because
they already have n season tournaments where players leave and
they go play someplace else and they come back and
they play here and oh, now this is a game.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
This is a cup game. This is not a Cup game.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
So MLS is tough, but the big domino you watch
in a couple of years, Major League Baseball is going
to figure it out. They're gonna say, this is almost
like we can have the World Baseball Classic in the
middle of the year and we have some kind of
run where it's, you know, we put the teams in
a winner go home type situation. Whatever it's gonna be.
(23:49):
Baseball is gonna find a way to do it, and
it's gonna be a new classic, a new thing, a
new mid season tournament that is going to really explode
that we pay a lot of attention to because Baseball's
the thing about the other sports is they're gonna see
the way the NBA is doing the same.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
Hey, that's a really good idea. Okay, but they did
this and that was a misstep. We can fix that misstep.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
But the popularity of this and you're gonna and you
see the TV ratings have been good and going to
Vegas and everybody's into it. The players like it, the
coaches like it, the fans like it, the fans like
to make fun of it too. You're gonna see all
the other major sports adopted, and the big one's gonna
be the MLB, and they're gonna say, hey, you know,
it was really good with that kind of World Baseball Classic.
We're gonna do something as similar as we can to
(24:32):
have a mid season tournament coming up in a couple
of years, and you're gonna see everybody's gonna want to
do it. And then midseason tournaments are gonna be the
new norm in all the major sports except for football.
Speaker 4 (24:40):
Everything will tweet gets tweaked. And look, if there's revenue
to be had and new sponsored deals to be had,
and really that's all it is, like, all right, how
do we sell it? If we can sell it in
myriad ways, then yeah, they'll get on board. Really quickly.
If it doesn't have to really mess with the schedule,
they'll get on really quickly. Now, the World Baseball Classic
(25:02):
is something you know, special and unique because of the
well the global aspect of it, right, because everybody's playing
for it. Well, you found that a little bit here
in this tournament because to a man, you've got the
guys excited. I mean, who doesn't want another one hundred
thousand dollars? Who doesn't want another two hundred thousand or
five hundred thousand dollars? And that's where we're at, right.
(25:25):
Everybody's talking about everybody's joking about it. We talked about
the the Yannis post game interview the other day when
it's like, wait, I got one hundred thousand dollars, all right,
the rich get Richard. It's like, don't tell me you
didn't know you had one hundred thousand dollars showing up
in your count right, and nobody's looking past that. So
you incentivize it, right, you can go back to the
(25:46):
All Star Games and get people excited that way. We've
been talking about monetizing and incentivizing there for years. Well,
now you see, based on the intensity of these games
and the way players have come out each and every time. Yeah,
this is how you get everybody on board. This is
how you get the PA to maybe be a little
(26:06):
more amenable to some tweaks and some variability of scheduling
if there's more money to be had for their clients
and for their constituency. So I think it absolutely flows
that way. I also did like the mood lighting they
had for the afternoon game. Oh yeah, Like you were
in the club, You had no idea whether that place
(26:29):
was full or there was one guy eating the buffet
chicken wings at twelve thirty. Ross Candy was on stage two.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
You didn't know, Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (26:38):
But on the court it looked fantastic.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
You know.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
I like the fact that as the games go on,
the courts just get more and more outlandis yeah, but
you know what I mean, it's like, hey, people are
paying atten, let's just go like eventually the court's going
to be like a big Bob Ross painting, or like
maybe you gets some kind of Hey, it's a landscape
and we have a raised flooring for the mountain was
on the side you gotta and that's kind of a
gonna be an obstacle for.
Speaker 4 (27:04):
That old hill they had in center field? Where was
that that was?
Speaker 3 (27:07):
Oh yeah yeah in uh in Houston.
Speaker 1 (27:10):
Yeah, I mean every game it's like we gotta be
But I can't wait to see what the court is
gonna look like for the championship.
Speaker 3 (27:16):
I mean, I can't wait to see.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
It's just like, let's just go over the top and
keep trying to outdo ourselves with things.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
But that's what we're gonna get with it. Now do
they do? They make it rain?
Speaker 4 (27:24):
The five hundred k hand bags?
Speaker 3 (27:31):
Here's the best here's the best part is just a chip.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
No, the team wins, right. Here's what happened is let's
just say the Lakers play the page and the Lakers win, right,
So they they clear off the court and all the
Lakers players stand on the court and they drop the
money and whoever, whatever you grab, you get.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
That's what it is.
Speaker 4 (27:50):
Kind of like when the Joker was dropping money on Gotham.
Speaker 3 (27:53):
I like, these hands are right, I'm giving away free money.
Speaker 1 (27:57):
Yeah, but you know, you know how long is Ad
gonna grab money for until he has to go to
the locker room. You know that money hits the hits
the court, though it starts to get slippery now, by
the way, the one thing that does need to be
tweaked here they just showed highlights of the halftime show.
Speaker 4 (28:16):
The hell was that? That was like a Thursday Thursday
game and pick the worst NBA locale. You got a
couple of guys painted gold, You got the acrobat spinner around.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
You're in Vegas.
Speaker 4 (28:31):
You couldn't get some DJ to come out there and
spin or some act to come out and do a
song or two for the nice people.
Speaker 3 (28:39):
What the hell I mean you could mean? Look, you couldn't.
Jimmy Eat World isn't doing anything.
Speaker 1 (28:44):
I know they're just like, you know, a Sun's team,
but they could have gotten from Arizona to Vegas pretty last.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
Just unbelievable. I mean, you get you know, it's a holiday, holiday,
holiday season. Most tours are done. You couldn't have floated
a few bucks to someone to say, hey, you know
you you want to be part of this, and then
you could have broadcast to have time here, sell your
latest single, sell the last album, sell the last live
album that you did of the songs that were popular
(29:11):
thirty years ago. Instead, here's a couple of gold guys
Flexen and you got Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley. They
can't comment because they're too busy laughing their asses.
Speaker 3 (29:20):
Off, telling you just watch.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
All the other major sports are gonna have end season
tournaments the next couple of years because of this success. Meanwhile,
speaking of success, we could have a one score game
coming up very quickly in Thursday Night Football, The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon live from
the Tirac dot com studio. Tonight, shoe brought to my
Progressive Insurance. Progressive makes bundling easy and affordable. Get a
(29:46):
multi policy discount by combining your motorcycle, RV, boat, ATV
and more, all your protection and one plays Bundle and
Safe at Progressive dot Com. So it's a three point
game right now between the Steelers and the Patriots. We'll
have more on this, but straight ahead. A huge controversy
has erupted earlier today after it was let out that
(30:06):
one head coach tried to motivate his team by comparing
their situation to nine to eleven. Wait what, yes, that happened?
That's next right here, Jason and Mike Fox.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon, live from the tirag dot com studio.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
Tonight, Joe brought you by Progressive Insurance.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
Progressive makes bundling easy and affordable to get a multi
policy discount by combining your motorcycle, RV, boat, ATV and
more all your protection in one plays Bundle and Save
at Progressive dot Com. Well, we are eight and a
half to go in the fourth quarter, commercial break, Patriots
facing a fourth and short near midfield. They lead the
(30:54):
Steelers twenty one to eighteen. Steelers touchdown two point conversion
pass from Drubisky to Friarmuth has cut that lead to three.
So still eight and a half to go in the
fourth quarter with what could be the worst loss in
Steelers history, or potentially a big comeback win. And the Steelers,
despite the fact their quarterback situations, thinks they still wind
(31:16):
up winning games.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
One of those two things is gonna happen. Mike Carmen.
Speaker 4 (31:18):
Well, but for the Steelers, I mean, at seven and five,
they've been We've kept waiting for the other shoe to
drop the entire season, right, they were out, gained outplayed out,
muscled out, hustle. But they found a way.
Speaker 3 (31:32):
Right.
Speaker 4 (31:32):
They were a far less esthetically pleasing version of the Eagles.
Speaker 3 (31:38):
Right, how about that.
Speaker 1 (31:39):
Nobody's done that, taking the two Pennsylvania teams and equated
them for this year, Like the Eagles have.
Speaker 4 (31:46):
Been ugly football a lot of the time. But you
know what, they found a way and the stats look good.
Get the w's for the Steelers. They were getting wins.
They were not putting up yards. Canada gets fired. Everybody's
stealing the South Park song and making parodies. See that's
what they were doing and inserting their favorite Primani Brothers
(32:06):
sandwich in the mix. And then they make the change
and well, now you got Mitchell Chrubisky in for Kenny Pickett,
and see if they can bring it back. It's about
what you expected that the the pendulum would swing the
other way to. You didn't think it would happen against
the Patriots, but but you thought you'd eventually run into
(32:26):
a string of l's based on how your offense had
been performing.
Speaker 5 (32:29):
Jason the al Michael's now requests Steelers Patriots every week.
Speaker 3 (32:33):
Man, he got the over, That's true, he did get
the over.
Speaker 4 (32:37):
He is seeing he's having the time of his life.
I bet right, man is Bella checking tomlin so storylines
for days.
Speaker 5 (32:44):
He's Geeter, he's hosting the crap out of this Redisky.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
And Gin and ZAPPI sure, that's exactly what I want
to Thursday night.
Speaker 3 (32:51):
We'll have more on this game coming up in a
few minutes.
Speaker 1 (32:54):
Jason Smith, Mike Carmon, Lifthtireck dot com Studios. But a
really weird controversy today and Bill's head coach Sean McDermott.
This was first reported by golong that a few years ago.
This is twenty now, I'm going back to twenty nineteen.
But in a few years ago, Sean McDermott, in trying
(33:14):
to find a way to get his team to come together,
told players in a speech in the locker room to
use the terrorists on nine to eleven as an example,
asking players in the room questions about how the attacks
were executed and referencing the hijackers getting on the same page.
Speaker 3 (33:33):
Now, many people.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
Who are with the team confirm the story, and today
he had to talk about it for a few minutes
at his press conference, saying that he regretted mentioning nine
to eleven in a training camp talk and immediately apologized
to his players for it. In fact, many players said, yes,
they really appreciated him apologizing for the reference that he made. Now, look,
(33:54):
this is this is really simple. Okay, this is and
if anybody follows any of my advice that I gotta
give out great advice on the show all the time
for free, please follow this advice. If you work in sports,
you're a coach, you're a player, you're an analyst, you're
a talking head, you're on the radio, you're on television,
(34:16):
never compare anything in sports to nine to eleven or
World War two or whatever went on in the early
days in the United States of America. You want to
stay away from all three of those things. Stay away
from those three things and you will be Okay, you
are stupid if you start comparing stuff that goes on
in sports with your team and motivation to any of
(34:37):
those things.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
Stay away from.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
That nine to eleven and World War t I mean,
I can't get over the number of people and still
compare stuff to not you know, it's like nine to eleven,
it's like World War two. This is like, oh my god, no,
it's not anything like that, are you kidding? And I
get that maybe Sean McDermott was so coaching the Coachee
coach like, I'm looking for a way to really get
everybody's attention. Here way, it's a great way in training
camp to get people on the same page and understand
(34:59):
really going to at their attention.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
If I compare it to nine to eleven, dude, stop
for a second.
Speaker 1 (35:03):
Okay, the worst day in American history that all of
us have had to go through, I would not compare Hey,
we need to come together as a football team to that.
Just think, don't be stupid. I mean, don't be stupid.
The number of people that still do this, Mike, it
just blows my mind that we still get this.
Speaker 4 (35:18):
There's so many easier narratives and reference points in history
to grab and not potentially get somef in hot water.
I find it interesting that this comes out, what four
years later? So who's got the acts to grind? Oh wait,
he's on the hot seat. He's on the hot seat.
So guess what story time for days that anybody that's
(35:40):
ever felt wrong by McDermott suddenly talking to Tide Dunn
and all of these reporters. So you got that, and look,
he's long and has long had skin in the game,
so I'm not disputing anything he said. Much like Grussini's
jet stuff, I don't deny that a lot of that
stuff's true. Now you're just trying to figure out who's
(36:00):
the rat in this. But yeah, this is about as
dumb as it gets. I was trying to make the
point about cooperation, cohesion, and the tagline was that one
veteran shut it down by you know what the biggest
obstacle was, and he said TSA, and everybody laughed nervously
and they moved on. But yeah, it certainly a miserable
(36:24):
effort for McDermott. And another thing, if you want to
get him towards the firing line.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
Best advice saying stay away from nine eleven World War two,
stay away.
Speaker 3 (36:32):
From it, just stay away, stay away.
Speaker 1 (36:35):
Exit ou about a Fresco swollen down the Jason Spitzer
with Mike Harmon. We have more on this game going
on right now, plus reaction to the big history in baseball.
Speaker 3 (36:44):
