Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Greetings, Welcome in side hour two of a very happy
Wednesday Night, The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Happy my ass. My team still stinks.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Your team stinks every day. You should find a way
to be happy.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
T two.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
You lose every night, you have twenty seven wins. Come on, man,
you're gonna be stuck on Carlton Fisk's original number for
another month. Hey, Roberts shut to be happy. Hit his
twelfth Tome run of the year. He's got twenty four RBI.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Let's go on.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
He'll be great and he'll be on an the team
in a week. It'll be fine. Yeah, absolutely fine.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Who will he be? Photo shot uniform of nah in.

Speaker 4 (01:07):
Two twenty seven though, But yeah, congratulations Mets beat around
the uh the Yankees tonight, so celebration, yeah, Max and
special sauce for you.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Yeah, But I you know I did. I did go
to McDonald's today.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Why am I not shot? I was driving.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
I was I was driving to work and the Mets
are winning six to two, and I'm like, okay, all right,
this is grade. And then they got it to eight
two and I said, oh, eight two, it's over. I'm
going to McDonald's. McDonald's and got a big mac and
cookies and it was so much fun. Did you jump
in the ball pit? No, there's no, dude. They don't
do ballpits anymore. Man. I think ballpits went out with COVID.

(01:41):
I don't know that the people do ballpits. What do
you do there? I eat the food?

Speaker 3 (01:47):
Do you sit on my phone? You're at the world
and judge people that come in?

Speaker 5 (01:51):
Uh? No.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
I kind of go with a weird time, like it's
like almost you know, it's like after six, so the
business is not quite what it was, So it's not
a lot of people in McDonald's. When I go, it's
kind of good because I get room to spread out
and everything and kind of hang out and then kind
of do my own things. So I'm pretty happy with it.

Speaker 4 (02:08):
It's just such a much different experience though, like hardly
anybody sits there. Maybe you know, in my neighborhood, you
go there, if you decide to stop in and get
yourself a cup of coffee, you got a couple of
old friends talking about, you know, the good old days.
Always a coffee clutch there and then maybe a hobo
or two. But beyond that head a lot of the

(02:29):
only activity has really come in right right after school
because it's right across from the high school.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
So for that, for that half hour, man, it is hopping.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
And yes we will have the big day that went
on all throughout the country in the world in soccer.
As I'm watching Rob mcleaney get interviewed right now on ESPN,
Wrexham playing a friendly against Chelsea and they're showing Rob
mcalaney every five seconds. Rexam is losing one nothing, So
we do have these big soccer stories coming. Because it
was a really.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
Santa Clara and all the banners up last week. Come
see it, Come see it.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
But today was a big watershed day in the NBA
as the rights issue potentially has been settled where we're
going to see the NBA for the next few years.
Now you know the background of the story coming in.
This is going to be the last year for the
NBA on TNT, as potentially other partners are going to

(03:25):
swoop in and steal the broadcasting package away. TNT's been
home with the NBA for almost thirty years. It was
a big, big watershed moment, and potentially the rights we're
going to go to Amazon. NBC and Amazon we're gonna
get ESPN's at the number one package. TNT was going
to get the B package and that's kind of how
it's been. However, with NBC jumping in and now Amazon

(03:47):
jumping in, they bid for the rights. It looked like
that's what was going to happen, and then TNT, at
the last minute we saw this the other day, came
in and matched the Amazon bid. Okay, so what happens now? Uh,
the NBA has said thanks to TNT, appreciate it, but
they're going with the Amazon bid. They say the bid
did not really match what Amazon's bid was. The TNT

(04:11):
said this, that's incorrect. Uh, we match the bid. There
will be litigation going forward. So now things seem a
little up in the air and a little weird where well,
Amazon says they didn't match. The NBA says they didn't
match the Amazon bid. TNT says, we matched the bid.
We're going to court on this. So now it's gonna

(04:32):
be weird. But look, no matter what I'll tell you
how this is gonna end. This is gonna end with
the NBA going to Amazon, right, TNT is not gonna
have it anymore. Why because first of all, you can
tell this is the way the world is going. Right,
the NBA and any sport is concerned about the future
more than the past. And TNT has been a great
partner for thirty years. But not everything stays forever just

(04:55):
because it's been going on for twenty five thirty years, right,
it did. Hey, it's gonna go forever. Nope, Nope, it's
not going to Actually now we thought, hey, j C.
Pennies is going to be open forever. No, no, Jace
Penny's maybe not. Blockbuster Video is gonna be here, No, no,
not gonna happen. The future is streaming. We know this.
We've told you for a long time. Eventually all the
big packages are going to be on streaming. Right, That's

(05:15):
how it's gonna go. And I love how some dude
on some cable show today made headline saying, Hey, eventually,
at some point, are all the sport's gonna go to
streaming services? Dude, We've been telling you that for a
year now. Streaming is gonna have everything at some point
in the next decade. That's the way things are going.
The NBA has seen our future is with partners like

(05:36):
Amazon that have all kinds of money to spend. I
guarantee you right now, Amazon is saying, man, now it's
gonna get a little ugly, little weird. We should have
been you know, another billion dollars. We could have been
another you know, whatever it is. We should have been
a little bit more because we have it, because Amazon
is far richer than TNT. TNT who said in the
beginning of this process, we don't need the NBA to

(05:58):
be successful. Rub nickels together to get to the to
get to the point where they could match this bid
by Amazon. The NBA is looking at this going, Okay,
they were a great partner, but they're really struggling to
match what we have. And they actually said they didn't
need the NBA, which was a horrible pr misstep. And
here's a here's a corporation that wants it, that wants

(06:20):
everything we have. We know Amazon's part of the future.
You know, Amazon streaming isn't going anywhere. Certain streaming giants
are gonna be in business for a long long time.
Netflix and Amazon are the two I can tell you
aren't going anywhere. So yeah, of course they're gonna choose
to go with the future. Now, however crazy this is
gets litigated with TNT versus, it doesn't matter. The NBA

(06:41):
wants Amazon. That's where it's gonna go after this year,
and TNT is gonna lose. I don't know what the
the the fallout is going to be from this, but
this will be the last year of the NBA on
TNT because the NBA wants to go to Amazon. They
want what's new, they want the future. They're gonna go there.
There's need, even though there's the tea is threatening all
kinds of stuff. Legally, after this year, Amazon's the winner

(07:04):
because that's the future.

Speaker 4 (07:06):
Yeah, I mean, it really just comes down to how
many hundreds of millions of dollars does Warner Brothers Discovery
get to go away? It's the play, you know, when
Rich sat in for you on Monday, we talked about
it because that was the day that Warner Brothers Discovery.
I feel weird because I just WBD doesn't sound sound great.

(07:28):
Nobody knows what the hell that is. But you see
that get shortened in articles when they refer to it
the second time. But you know, when they did their matching,
it's like, okay, let's let's fight it out. Talk about
subscriber numbers worldwide reach. And with Amazon you've got at
least double the number of subscribers when you go to Prime. Now,
how many of those are you know, grocery store things

(07:51):
and pharmacies and you know food supplies that you're ordering
batteries for your electric toothbrush versus watching any other streaming content.
Doesn't matter, it's still the move. Now, what does that
mean for the global packages? And if someone you know
has Amazon Prime in the UK, do they have to

(08:11):
pass a different fee? Well, they'll figure out tiering and
all of that stuff. But with cable subscribers joining, I
look what MLB Network did today, right, they announced a
standalone operating as of today for MLB Network and at
BAT six ninety nine a month, same thing, right, It's like,
all right, you may not be paying seventy bucks, one
hundred bucks or whatever for cable like you used to.

(08:34):
But you can come on in piecemeal and get what
you want. You're an MLB fan and you want this
content seven dollars a month, Come get it. And those
continue to grow for Warner Brothers Discovery. Yeah, bad optic,
bad negotiating play. We don't need you. That's not as
dumb as it gets, and I'm glad that. Look, Charles
Barkley is in a lame duck season. You want to

(08:54):
talk about make sure his microphone gets shut shut off
or maybe you don't. Maybe just say, hey, let's get
the best ratings we possibly can for the final year.
And even when we go to break, leave his microphone
on because we have no idea what the hell's coming
next as he's in that space. But it's it's just
the inevitability and forward looking statements when CEOs go and

(09:17):
they do their quarterly analysts calls or big presentations like
we see all right, yeah, yea, yeah, we've got a
new iPhone. We're not talking about what happened and what
went wrong with version thirteen or twelve or no, no, no, forward.
Here's why you need this new one, and here's where
we're going to continue to grow and where we find
new markets and whatever else. You get a little bit

(09:38):
about the past that in the past, because that informs
that month's that quarters numbers.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
But it's all about forward looking.

Speaker 4 (09:46):
Why the NBA package was worth eleven years and seventy
six billion dollars because the rating sure as hell don't
tell you that it should be worth eleven years seventy
six billion dollars. But when you're a global business and
you're drapolating and looking forward to all the new innovations
and technologies that are going to allow people to consume

(10:06):
your product and the different inroads for advertisers and sponsors,
then yes, you come up with this other as much
as we say fuzzy math number and here it just
doesn't make sense to stay with Warner Brothers Discovery. Here
they can go take the hundreds of millions that they'll
get and they'll go figure out what Aquaman three is supposed.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
To be about.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
Hey, Akaman, why don't we do this. Let's go back
and put Adrian Gregner in it. I know he's retired
from Hollywood, but let's put him in it because he
was Aquaman and Entourage. Let's get James Cameron to direct
it and it'll be awesome. Let's go do it.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
Let's go.

Speaker 4 (10:40):
Just celebrated the twentieth year of Entourage hitting the airwave,
so let's get it off.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Oh I think, you know, looking back, I think Entourage
episodes were like eleven minutes long. When I think back
to they did not have long episodes.

Speaker 4 (10:53):
It's like, you didn't love that opening theme song though,
Oh the opening.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
Theme song was great.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
No.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
I loved Entour. I love the and the skewering of
Hollywood and the crazy stuff that CSI Minneapolis. I mean,
some of the stuff was just so right off.

Speaker 4 (11:07):
But the late great Bob Saggett, Yeah, oh sure, Gold
Harry Gold, one of the great characters, which you know,
at times people will tell you is not too far
from Pivot himself. But you know, go and former Fox
Sports radio host Alumni Association Jerry Ferrara.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
When Saggett warned, Vince, you stay away from my daughters. Vince,
don't you have sex with any of them? Right, I'm
warning you right now, you stay away from both of them. Okay,
but look this is look I feel bad for TNT
because look, it's been such a big touchdone and and
people are certainly going to be upset the last year
on TNT and it's gonna be very sappy, and I'm

(11:44):
sure we'll hear from Barkley and Ernie Johnson in the
coming days about this. But you just can't stop the future.
I mean, just I'll ask you this, is there any
way in any scenario do you see the NBA saying, oh,
TNT was right. He misinterpreted our deal with them, and
we have to go with them as our partner for
the next eleven year. Do you really see that. Of

(12:05):
course that's not gonna happen. It's over, but it's going
to Amazon.

Speaker 4 (12:09):
But in the end, you can match the business side
of it right from a straight dollars and cents. That's
not matching the proposal. And that's where in the courtroom
it's gonna get shot down, right where they'll be able
to say, come on, this is just stupid.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
It's not dollars for dollars.

Speaker 4 (12:26):
You're like, you're matching a full proposal right as to
how you're gonna help grow the league and show revenue
growth and year after your value for this thing. And yeah,
for Ernie for for Chuck for I mean, Shack's got
a new game show that's coming out now, so I
mean he's got a million million businesses. He'll find his
way onto and behind the microphone somewhere, and the rest

(12:48):
of the guys will too. Ernie Johnson, you know, taking
a leave from his baseball duties. Hopefully everything's all right
with he and his family. He'll be back for the
new year. But you know, their whole thing was about
taking care of the production team and the oaks behind
the scenes and the continuity there. So hopefully Colberheads prevail
in that respect and they find a way to keep
it together because I mean, in our industry, Jason, sobody,

(13:10):
B and C blocks will be lost for content. What
did Chuck and Shack say? Yeah, yeah, I put that
now or two? Just catch that's really the biggest It's
not about fans being bad, it's people in our business
and and they're lazy asses of Hey what did this
guy say?

Speaker 1 (13:27):
Hey, I can't I don't know what to talk about.
I'm done. So what did somebody else say that we
could play back here? I'm excited we got We'll get
round Ball rock again. I mean, I'm one of those
nerds that like, Oh, I'm sick of people talking about
round Ball Rock. You know, round Ball Rock is.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
The best Tash show.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
Exit out about a Fresco exit swalling down the Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. We'll have
more basketball on the way. But coming up next, there's
a couple of quarterbacks who really want to get paid.
Maybe they don't see the field till they do get paid.
Will they get their money? That more are coming up next,
Jason to Mike Fox, Well, you put it off long enough,

(14:04):
like the Yankees have put off winning against the Mets
to the point where they can't do it till next year.

to get to.

Speaker 6 (15:21):
And that's why we have a brand new podcast called
over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun in
our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy will be over promising things we never
have time for.

Speaker 5 (15:34):
Yeah, you blober list Jam and me. Well, you know what,
it's called over promise. You should be good at it
because you've been over promising women for years.

Speaker 6 (15:39):
Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk

continue on our after show called over Promised.

on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen to over Promised
with Cavino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts

Speaker 1 (16:15):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Francisco Lindor Swinging along one of night, Mets Mets
Mets Mets make and it's not playable, you know, and
I you know, and the thing is, I texted my Dad,
And I said, Dad, my computer's down, my internet's busted.
I don't know what's the score of the Mets and

(16:36):
the Yankees. It's got to be close to being over.
I texted this in the ninth inning when it was
swelled the two Not heard back from him? Not heard back?

Speaker 3 (16:42):
Your father hates me.

Speaker 4 (16:43):
Not heard back at least for these two days, and
then everything will be right. It does it be with
his buddies in Syracuse. Why you would decide, hey, let's
go vacation when it's ninety eight degrees with one hundred
percent humidity in Syracuse, New York at the end of July.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
I don't, hey, hey, just shy, You're good, hey, Just
like Aaron Rodgers, these these reservations were made way ahead
of time, and he couldn't change him. All right, just
so you know where you're going to Syracuse or Egypt.
These things are difficult to change.

Speaker 3 (17:14):
No one hundred percent.

Speaker 4 (17:15):
Rebooking fees, cancelation fees, flight changes. I mean, those are
all very real things that a guy who has made
forty million dollars a year for the last at least
five or six really needs to be concerned with.

Speaker 3 (17:29):
And I'm talking about your dad, of.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
Course, joining us now the hotline for all the big
news in the NFL. He has a long time, some
would say lifetime NFL insider. He has a Pro Football
Hall of very Good voter. Pretty soon we're gonna have
some very good speeches for some very good players going
into the Hall of Fame. When the first game kicks off,
it is Jason cole Jay call, what's up, buddy? How

(17:54):
are you.

Speaker 3 (17:56):
Well?

Speaker 7 (17:56):
I was gonna tell Harmon that the you know, when
you have the want to get away right to Egypt,
you know, you guys stick with it.

Speaker 3 (18:04):
That's true.

Speaker 4 (18:05):
I mean Deshaun Foster is already looking to use that
one too, though.

Speaker 7 (18:08):
Uh that was special, wasn't it? That was really special?

Speaker 3 (18:13):
Welcome to ten?

Speaker 7 (18:17):
Where are we? What planet are we on? This is
not the UCLA I played.

Speaker 1 (18:24):
For, Yeah one and eleven, Get ready for UCLA one
and eleven this year, good luck?

Speaker 7 (18:33):
All of the West coast Oregon will be above five hundred.
But the USC is gonna get it's just going to
get their butts handed to them, all all the seats
and long too, like they're not ready. Lincoln Riley's not
ready for the Big ten. And so you got them.
UCLA is terrible. Washington had when like everybody leaves, you know,

(18:57):
not only they have like every first haund pick, but
then they had everybody else who was in a good left.
So they're going to be terrible. Get ray for Sanford
and col In the ACC Oh my god.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
You so you don't think Washington can win with Billy
Joe Hobert at quarterback this year?

Speaker 7 (19:17):
I like, let's just say this. I'm giving Harbaugh a
better chance, all right. The best part about it is
having Harbaugh Eastern Harbaugh West. I mean, it's definitely they
got this. You know. Two packers is a biggie thing

(19:40):
going where they're just going to say the most outlandish
things that they possibly can to see which one is
going to get the most merc recognition, right, Like Lamar
Jackson greatest quarterback in NFL history, Like I'm not sure
he's the best guy in his the vision, right, Like
can we just start with that? You know?

Speaker 3 (20:00):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (20:00):
But then you today the first day of training camp
is like being born coming out of the womb, and
you know you're saying and now you're not anymore. I
think that's better than Lamar Jackson.

Speaker 7 (20:11):
He's so full of himself. It's just that's what I mean,
though it is two pack versus thinking. It's like, it's
like when Harbaugh, it's just all the crazy things. I'm
gonna I'm going to write a book about Harbach because
I maintained this. Harbaugh could write a biography, an autobiography,
and somebody else could do a biography of him. There'd

(20:33):
be totally different books and completely accurate one thousand per.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
Well, there you go.

Speaker 1 (20:42):
There's your writing assignment.

Speaker 7 (20:44):
Oh I can't wait to do I can't wait to
write harp you know, Jim Harbaugh's biography. John. I'd like
to write about John because he's actually he's a little
bit more logical, but he did stretch reality this week.
I gotta give it. I gotta give it that I like.
I like Lamar Jackson. I think I say this kind

(21:04):
of stuff and everybody's, oh, you're just hate men. No.
I like the fire, I really do. But don't do that.
Tune in greaves player. We stop. Stop, Okay, never mind,
go ahead.

Speaker 1 (21:20):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carbon Live fromthtireg dot
Com Studios. NFL Insider Jason Cole with us here. All right, So,
because I know you've been chomping at the bit for
this story for the last twenty four hours. The Cowboys
fly to training camp. Cede Lamb is not on the plane.
He is holding out. He wants a new deal. Jerry Jones,
who is not giving money to anybody, is now going

(21:41):
to have to watch his all in.

Speaker 7 (21:42):
Baby, all in.

Speaker 5 (21:45):
In.

Speaker 1 (21:46):
What do you take What do you take away from this?

Speaker 7 (21:49):
Well? I take away I forgot. You know, everybody's talking
about the negotiations with Michael Parsons. We are that's important,
the negotiation with Dak, the negotiation with TV Lamb. But
I think that we all forgot the most important negotiation
is obvious went on in a courtroom in Techa, Canada. Right.
He did everything he could to avoid going to trial

(22:12):
with Alexander Davis, so that cuts settled today. That was comical,
But maybe he'll be able to pay attention to his team.
I just here's my thing about Jerry Jones, and I
just kind of came to this thought recently. Is he
likes the show of the negotiation. You know what I'm saying,

(22:35):
It's sort of like a sports version of Trump doing
The Apprentice, you know, like negotiating a deal the art
of the deal kind of stuff. Yeah, because he likes
the press that it gets, He likes the attention that gets.
It shows what a shrewd negotiator is, and he just
like forgets, Like negotiations shouldn't be ugly with your best players.

(22:58):
But he's been doing this forever, like he did with
Emmitt Smith, you know, after they won a Super Bowl,
would be doing kay the guy, you know, your best
your best players shouldn't have to fight for money this hard. Now,
I'd say that. And San Francisco is dealing with its
own issues between ak and and Trent Williams and but

(23:21):
the Sarwatiski you look and go, yeah, there were a
couple of plays from winning a super Bowl. The Cowboys,
You're like, they're a couple of plays from being complete frauds.
I mean that that's how I look at the Cowboys.
They're a lot closer to being out of the playoffs
entirely and not being anywhere than they already sniffing any

(23:43):
kind of Super Bowl.

Speaker 4 (23:45):
So the fact that we have these three players still
unsigned acrimony, whatever, is this more steven kind of putting
jerryus out? I mean, I know they like to show
it all. But eventually he acquiesces. Does that happen eventually?

Speaker 7 (23:58):
Oh, eventually they give in you. But it's staredown stuff
and and and they're like the drama. I mean, I
still remember sitting in Jerry's office one time. He does
it's you know, it's it's it's the best thing, the
most consistent ratings of the soap operas, and I'm like, yeah,

(24:19):
the NFL is a soap opera for men, and so
he digs the soap opera. He thinks that this helps
him make money. And it's like, you want to win games,
like that's the goal. You want to win games, you
want to win championships. And Jerry just always loses sight
of like what's like he's so much more more concerned

(24:42):
with branding and you know, hence cowboy bees. But this is, yeah,
absolutely like he's so into branding. Like he's put him
a star on those South African killer bees. I mean,
he really is putting the star on him there. They've
got it genetically modified so that the bees are born

(25:04):
with a star on them.

Speaker 1 (25:09):
Now it's a sci fi movie. It's like Chrocosaurus versus
you know, mega sharks.

Speaker 7 (25:13):
Don't you remember that. Don't you remember that that movie
about the South African killer Breason. They ended up with
the in the I think it was a New Orleans
Superdome or that see, I think so, and they like
they drove the car and they had to turn the
air conditioning way down to freeze the bees in the
superdome and I'm you know, I you know, finally they

(25:37):
they chilled out the bees or something like that, but
the bees were about to get in through, you know,
into the car. Classic. But yes, it's something. It's that
caliber of bad sci fi movie. Is Jerry Jones with
the bees trying to figure out how do I pay
Cee Land? By the way, how much wed Alexander will

(25:57):
take that off? We're given to to see can we
do that? Can we do that?

Speaker 1 (26:02):
Spak spak temperature.

Speaker 7 (26:07):
You are not biting on Alexander Davis at all. You
guys just don't want to touch that in any way,
shape or form.

Speaker 1 (26:13):
First of all, I thought you said Alexander dag I'm like, wow,
he hasn't played for the Senators for like twenty years.

Speaker 7 (26:18):
No, no, Alexander, Alexander Davis, she's very famous.

Speaker 1 (26:22):
Yeah, no, no, no, you're right, but I mean, I
know where you were going to go. I t you
up on the Cowboys and you say what you want to.
That's kind of where it was.

Speaker 7 (26:30):
I will, but I did say what I wanted to.
So yeah, that negotiation could really put it crimped.

Speaker 1 (26:36):
Now now you're never writing the Jerry Jones book. Now
you're out of that. That's not going to happen.

Speaker 7 (26:41):
I know, well that's already don Van that has already
got that deal. So don't worry about that one.

Speaker 1 (26:48):
Is that breaking news right here? Like, is that happening?

Speaker 7 (26:51):
Yeah, it's happening. Don Van, that is going to write
a book about Jerry Jones. I think he's already been
been paid for it. Can you imagine what that's going
to be? Like? Oh my, let me.

Speaker 1 (27:03):
Ask you this. Let me ask you this. Normally, when
someone writes a book about someone, you meet with him.
How many times, like when you did the l Way book,
how many times did you.

Speaker 3 (27:11):
Meet a.

Speaker 7 (27:13):
Couple? You know it's spent I don't know, weeks worth
of time with him.

Speaker 1 (27:17):
Okay, how many times do you think.

Speaker 7 (27:19):
Other than phone calls and stuff like that, Van now
has spent a lot of time with Jared.

Speaker 1 (27:24):
He probably had to spend every day for like three years.
There's a guy written a book on me. Right now,
this is done. Oh by the way, this next half
hour doesn't go in the book. Just so you know, right,
I'll be I'll be out. I'll see a little bit,
all right, I know.

Speaker 7 (27:38):
I give I give Jerry credit. I give Jerry kay
for he does not go off the record like that.
He will and he will put it out there. Now.
He wants to hide some things. I'm not saying that,
but if you get him an interview situation, all right,

(27:58):
if you get him in an interview situation, he will like,
there's not a lot, there's not a lot of well,
we can't print any of that. He just doesn't do that.
He's like, he'll let it, he'll let it fire man.
I give him, I give him kudos for that. He's
never said and he's certainly never done that with man,
not to the extent that I know. And now that

(28:18):
he has written some stuff that he didn't want out there,
but it was the truth. And Jerry generally doesn't mind,
you know, like he he doesn't mind the truth out
there because he is firmly of the belief that all
publicity is good publicity. It's like that ed Warder quote.
You know, we're getting fifteen minutes on really strong staying

(28:40):
or there's gonna lie, didn't say anything's gonna best. Well,
we got fifteen minutes on ESPN. That's that's him, man.
He just wants to show the brand. Man. Put that
star on the bees. Baby, that's what you gotta do.

Speaker 1 (28:53):
This is my montourag just my son Steven. This is
Tony Romo. And there's a my biographer, Van Natta right there,
a disease. He's over there to decide. He'll be writing
stuff down. Make sure you'll.

Speaker 7 (29:05):
Yeah, but he's not my biography. He is a bob,
a very different relationship, all right.

Speaker 1 (29:16):
So so so let's let let me end with this
because talk about avoiding things. He talked about it today. Uh,
he says, everything is great. He's on the same page
as Robert Salah. He was fine because he missed, uh
the Jets mini camp. He went to Egypt. He had
the trip booked. Aaron Rodgers says, you know, I didn't
know it was going to be the same time, but
everything is fine. I really wanted to go to Egypt,

(29:37):
and so he went to Egypt. He missed the last
couple of days of mini camp, and he was there
for all the OTAs. What do you think about this again?

Speaker 7 (29:46):
When you have that want to get away, right, you've
got to take advantage of it, you really do. You know,
you don't get want to get away to Egypt very often?
So all right, look, I come back to Robert sala
Is is Dave wants that too, like that's just what
he is. And so like they weren't prepared for what

(30:07):
they were going to say about Aaron Rodgers months ago,
and they didn't have you know, they weren't straight on
this and they didn't think about it at all. Like
how about we just make an excuse. He's doing something
that's important, that's been planned out. We understand what it is,
all that stuff. But at the same time, Rogers should

(30:28):
have been there because it does send a message to
the team. You could say, you know, all you want,
oh I was there at ten out of the eleven weeks,
or you know I was you know, whatever Gobbledego can
came up with this for this week, right went with
big Cat and PFT comment or right whatever that bs

(30:49):
I mean, it's they were They did a good job interviewing.
I might give them credit because they kind of pinned
him down. But whatever, the kind of bs excuse the
team out of his mouth. I was looking at dude,
the word mandatory was on there, and you're the leader
of the team, You're you should be there. It's not

(31:09):
it's not that complicated. If you want, if you want
to show the other guys that this is important and
that you want to win and that you want, you know,
to go out with something more than just the one
super Bowl title, you have to make a statement to
the team and so you can go to Egypt next year,
or how about this, do what Harmon said, you know,

(31:32):
pay any change fees. You know, Southwest will give you
credits on your flight. I mean I still have some
southwack West credits. I make it work, right, like, you
know you can do that. Southwest is very forgiving. So
you take the credits. You may not you may lose
a few points and stuff like that, but you know,
you Aaron Rodgers, You're okay, right, So it is it

(31:57):
is not a It is not a significant real thing.
It's not a significant real thing that he was at
that he was not there on those particular days. It
is a significant statement, and that's because you got you
have to say to everybody, I am all in, I

(32:18):
am I am on page with everything that this coach wants,
and don't give your coach, you know, don't give wants it.
I mean, sella another chance to be a buffoon like,
don't turn him into that because you basically you expose
him and put him up to the buffoonery on this one.
He looks bad in all of this, and the whole

(32:40):
organization looked bad as they stumbled around this. But hecket's
the Jets. What do you expect?

Speaker 1 (32:46):
He's all in with us every single week here on
the show. NFL Insider Jason Coley's on Twitter at Jason
Cole sixty two. As always, Jay Cole appreciated, buddy, We'll talk.

Speaker 7 (32:56):
To you all right.

Speaker 1 (32:58):
All right, coming up to always a great visit with
Jay Cole, great stuff, Rogers stuff. But coming up next,
there's been a big football story today and I think
we've found a way to make money off of it.

Speaker 3 (33:11):
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (33:55):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon live from thetirack dot com studios. And
you've probably heard us tonight talk about the Deshaun Watson
press conference today, which was just wow. UCLA head coach
at Media Days the Big Ten kinda lost the plot
in his opening statement when he was talking about, hey,

(34:18):
happy for UCLA to be in the Big Ten. We're excited,
and things got really weird. Now here's the statement from
earlier today. He starts off pretty well, and then when
you hear the dead air, This doesn't mean we've stopped
the audio. It means that he is not saying anything
as the camera is on him, and it just gets

(34:38):
really embarrassing. Here's him from earlier today. We're gonna have
that in a second. Apparently, even the even the SoundBite
of Deshaun Foster, Hey, you know where we don't? We
don't have it?

Speaker 4 (34:49):
Would he break into a dancing Simpson did on Saturday
Night Live that time?

Speaker 1 (34:53):
Oh, we were just too excited back here, guys. Oh
you're too excited, like Rishaw Spauicer. Okay, we got it now,
are we ready?

Speaker 2 (35:00):
UCLA in a Big ten.

Speaker 8 (35:03):
We're a school that's won what one hundred and twenty
three championships? So this fits us being right in this
conference football wise, which is excited. You know, I'm sure
you guys don't know too much about UCLA but our
football program. But we're in LA yes, us in usc.

Speaker 1 (35:28):
No, that's good? Thanks, all right? Good, didn't know that.

Speaker 2 (35:31):
We I'm just basically excited, really, that's it.

Speaker 1 (35:45):
Yeah, checked up about it. He couldn't He couldn't talk
for a minute. About UCLA football. The first thing the
faulted two was we're from LA. All right, We're from La. Everybody.

Speaker 4 (35:57):
It's a man that you know from Hollywood, California.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
Yeah. Now here's the thing. You came up with a
pretty good idea a little while ago in my car.
But you said, this is one of those Southwest Airline commercials.
Want to get away?

Speaker 3 (36:10):
Because Harry is j questioned about it.

Speaker 1 (36:11):
Here he is in front of everybody, not knowing what
to say, and just it gets really awkward. You ask,
and our editors here at Fox Sports Radio have delivered.

Speaker 8 (36:21):
I'm sure you guys don't know too much about UCLA
but our football program.

Speaker 2 (36:24):
But we're in La.

Speaker 3 (36:28):
Want to get away.

Speaker 2 (36:30):
It's us in usc.

Speaker 3 (36:34):
We want to get away.

Speaker 2 (36:41):
I'm just basically excited. Really, that's it.

Speaker 3 (36:43):
I want to get away.

Speaker 4 (36:45):
Now you can with Southwest Ferris as low as fifty
nine dollars one way, yes to.

Speaker 3 (36:49):
Love Ferris with nothing to how that's transparency.

Speaker 4 (36:53):
And if they don't want in, then snickers can get
into the mix. Oh you got multiple categories right, not
feeling yourself A stickers will get you through it.

Speaker 1 (37:02):
The probably Southwest doesn't take you far away enough from that.

Speaker 4 (37:06):
No, that's true, you're gonna have to hop a couple
of Southwest flights to get as far away as you'd
like to.

Speaker 1 (37:12):
But how about Southwest getting all chesty when they had
the big meltdown a few days ago and planes couldn't
take off and they're like, oh, who needs Southwest now? Like, wow, well,
I mean a couple of years ago, south Coming hold
onto that for a long time. Hey, we had a
really bad thing happened and people are stranded in the airports.
But no, we're gonna get chesty right now about this

(37:32):
on social media.

Speaker 4 (37:33):
Because remember they wore it a couple of years ago, right,
they had all of their issues while other airlines were
running just fine, and this one they fell back assword
into it. It's only because they hadn't updated their software.

Speaker 1 (37:45):
Yeah, yeah, what do they say? Not bad for a
company that runs its software off a Commodore sixty four
from their parents' basement.

Speaker 3 (37:54):
We had a Commodore sixty four day.

Speaker 1 (37:57):
Boy, Oh I remember when there sixty four was like
the cutting at Wall.

Speaker 3 (38:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (38:02):
It's like when I bought in television, that was gonna
be the big deal.

Speaker 1 (38:04):
Let's go television, which is the rival Atari, and then
not enough people bought in television.

Speaker 4 (38:10):
And then Calecovision came out and it just started going
from there.

Speaker 3 (38:13):
Yeah, Sega came out and we never looked back.

Speaker 1 (38:15):
But there you go. There's your commercial.

Speaker 3 (38:17):
I love that. Thanks guys.

Speaker 4 (38:19):
That's that makes me feel really good that we are
finding branding opportunities for new head coach Deshaun wa Foster. Yeah,
I got, I got the I got the other guy
on the mind because a lot about training camps and
I'm starting to.

Speaker 1 (38:37):
Thinking about massages too soon, too soon. The only thing
missing from that, Foster was you hear the ding and
you needed someone to say you are now free to
lose in the Big Ten. Like that's the only thing missing.

Speaker 3 (38:51):
There.

Speaker 4 (38:52):
You go, we can get well, we'll get updated. I
mean this, this story is gonna have legs because he's
gonna have to talk in front of people a lot.

Speaker 1 (39:00):
You are now free to get your ass kicked by
Ohio State and Michigan.

Speaker 3 (39:03):
Was he staring at the other coaches of the Big
Ten so all of a sudden.

Speaker 4 (39:06):
He was intimidated. Wow, it's not a cocktail kind of reception.
It's like they're staring him down.

Speaker 1 (39:12):
There's Ryan day, he's like sixty four and seven, but
like two and six against Michigan.

Speaker 3 (39:17):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (39:19):
Coming up next, we get back into the biggest story
of the night in the team that should be the
most desperate over the course of the next week. In
