Speaker 1 (00:51):
And oh my goodness, don't call it a winning streak
after breaking the twenty one game losing streak to Chicago.

Speaker 4 (00:58):
Oh oh wait wait wait, oh h I'm sorry, buddy, No,
you know what, we got that big call last night.
We we created an earthquake with the thunderous round of
applause and excitations and the Fox Sports Radio Studios.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
I don't think that's the word.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
What No, just keep going, you just keep I was
just throwing in. You said excitations. I don't think excitations
is world.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
Hey, if nothing else, the Beach Boys used it, so
it's part of American culture.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Excitations.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Let's say excitation, excitation, a good vibration.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
Okay, excitation, excitation.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Yeah, here's the thing.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Excitation is a word, but it means the application of
energy to a particle object for physical system.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
That's it. We gave it a lot of energy and
it created five earthquake in the Los Angeles area. I
did not misspeak, sir.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
All right, Okay, you know you're you're trying to find
the definition to fit what you said.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
But that's fine.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
That's absolutely fun.

Speaker 4 (02:04):
Did I say that was wrong? Go back and play
the tape.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Did we create Okay, we created particles all of a sudden,
we're on house.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
Now, we're that's right. I downed a bottle of expired
pills that I found in a random cabinet, and we
created energy and launched into a separate timeline. All of
those things are true. But yeah, we're back to normal. Buddy.
Take it to nothing. Lead. You get a couple of

(02:31):
home runs and everybody's excited, and my guy sound and
tripping on the broadcast sounded more excited by the home
runs today that he did the win last night. I
think maybe uh, the abuse he took on social media,
uh and on the score in Chicago probably got to him.
But then the seventh inning happened and all was right
with the world.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
House is a munich, Lobulin's a spike.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
He's gonna eat surgery now house half house house half.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
Uh so yes.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
A day after breaking that win streak, the White Socks
go down to defeat three two to the A's, starting
a new losing streak at one.

Speaker 4 (03:08):
Yeah. I mean the A's are only twenty games under
five hundred.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
No, the the A's look like the Phillies compared to
the White Sox, and we're twenty games under.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
Like awesome, even though nobody like they need the calm
and quiet of playing at home because they are twenty
nine and thirty at home.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
Yeah, yeah, I know they are. They are. Uh, you
were aware.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
Nobody there but possum's rats and whatever other assorted vermin in.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
The seventh and then then you lost three to two.

Speaker 4 (03:34):
That's what we do.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
That's White Sox baseball. So you're now Curtis Martin, Steve Smith.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
That's your record, guys, A big question to ask you,
what do you got Frostburg.

Speaker 5 (03:44):
Now, we partied last night. Yes, the White Sox won
a game?

Speaker 4 (03:49):
Yeah, what what is the celebration if they somehow win two?

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Do you think we have to worry about that?

Speaker 2 (03:57):
I thought you were going to go other way in case.

Speaker 4 (04:00):
Yeah, I thought you were gonna go the other way
and say they still have plenty of time to truly
break the other record. Oh, I'm trying to top last
night celebration.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
If they pull it off.

Speaker 4 (04:10):
I don't know what tops a five point seven earthquake.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
It is hard the White Sox winning and then the
ground shaking at your feet for the White Sox winning.

Speaker 4 (04:19):
You're gonna forget where you guys were. If they do well,
they would two in a row. Yeah. No, no, you're right,
you're right.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
But again, I don't know how much you really have
to worry about that, Like, I mean, really, this is
like the Jets saying, you know, we worry about where
we're gonna have our our our our parade, Like what's
the route going to be down Madison Avenue or is
it gonna be down fifth a like, let's let's let's
let's worry about that when it happened.

Speaker 4 (04:41):
I don't know we need to worry about that right now.
It's one of those guys on the final day of
his summer internship. He's done all his work or she is.
They've they've put in their paperwork and they've got to
finish out the day. Hey, plan the plan the parade route,
will you. It's never gonna have it, But you're not
gonna spend any real resources on that. And Jill, all
the sudden, you realize you're needing a wait, they just

(05:02):
drew on the back of a piece of paper in crayon.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
To Jason Smith showing the Mike Carbon live in the
tirec dot Com studios. A little more baseball coming up,
Phillies and Dodgers getting set to go again in a
few minutes from Dodger Stadium.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
Meanwhile, big news in football today.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
And look, this is NFL at College involving Jim Harbaugh,
who got handed a four year show cause penalty for
recruiting violation stemming back from the dead period during.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
COVID in twenty twenty.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
Now this is independent of the sign stealing investigation in
which Harbaugh suspended for three games. They suspended him again
for three games. This is different from that. This goes
all the way back. It's nice the NCAA getting around
to this four years after this happened.

Speaker 4 (05:50):
Well, why would you change your processes I've been doing
for all these years.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
We'll make sure these kids are in seventh grade. They
know the value of making a choice like that. Hey
you wanted to go there? Good luck.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
Yeah, he's getting ready to collect his pension and now
we're gonna come down. Guy worked a long career for
the Post Office or some sort of civil service, saying wait,
I did what when? How? Yeah? So what we do?
So what does this mean? Right?

Speaker 1 (06:17):
He's He gets a four year show cause order for
impermissible contact with recruits and players when access was restricted
during COVID, Meaning if he goes back to college football,
he is under sanctioned for four years, and the first
year he is hired, he is.

Speaker 4 (06:32):
Not allowed to coach.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
So if a school wants to hire him that first year,
he cannot be involved with the football team. Jim Harbo saying,
I did the college football thing. I won a national
championship with my Alma mater. You really think I'm going back? Really, really, guys,
you think I'm going back and think about Look, this
is one of those first things that tells you a
couple before. There's a big takeaway from this, But first
of all, you could see how the NCAA really hates
Jim Harbor. Right, We're gonna come back at you after

(06:55):
this and give you this penalty. Sure, four years after
this happened, after we suspended you for three years, or
for three games. Last game you suspended for yourself because
you wanted to get ahead of the.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
NCAA for three games.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
I mean this, this tells you really when we said
all last year, remember the nca hates Jim Harbaugh Man,
they hate him, They absolutely hate him. And this shows you. Now,
is this a big deal? No, because Harball's gone. He's
in the NFL. If I thought for a second he
would come back to college football, I would say, Okay,
you know what, this is a big deal. But he's

(07:28):
gonna coach. He's gonna coach in the NFL and then
he's gonna be done. He could he had his dream job.
You know, he's not gonna go back and say I'm
really gonna start over with a small program in the South,
and really I'm gonna build them back. I'm gonna go
coach at Vanderbilt, or I'm gonna go No, he's not
gonna do that, right, So this is not that big
a deal. It's the NCAA saying, hey, we want to
show you that we still hate you. Want to make
sure you don't reme, hey, we still hate you. Just

(07:49):
know that we hate you. And if you ever really
wanted to come back, we want to close the door
as much as possible.

Speaker 3 (07:54):
So all this stuff all the n said.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
Look, look what the NCAA is doing to Jim Harbaugh
after he has gone from college football and into the NFL.
They hate him. They have had the dislike for him.
That's what we got we got today.

Speaker 4 (08:05):
Well, you know, you go through the processes and you
wait till it all comes out, you know. He said, Look,
I've got nothing to apologize for. We talked about it
a little bit yesterday. What if Roger Goodell decided to, uh, hey,
I said, president, many years ago, when a college kid,
oh broke some rules and went and traded some stuff

(08:26):
for some tattoos and suspended trell prior and upheld it
for five games. What if Roger Goodell went out of
his way to say, hey, you know what, we've done
this before he won. I want to say that I
think has done that.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
The NFL has done that before, if I remember right,
they did suspend a coach or coach a coach got
hired at some point, and because of what happened in college,
he had to be suspended for the beginning of his run.
As I'm trying to think who it was, it escapes
mean off the top of my head, but I know
that's happened in the past. Not saying he's going to
do this, but I know that's actually happened in the past.

Speaker 4 (08:59):
Yeah, so you've got the precedent has been set. Again,
don't believe that it'll happen. But with Harbaugh, I mean,
his agent had the greatest statement ever written. You know,
made his high school yearbook analogy whatever. I was a
little bit clunky, but the points still held of you know,
your high school while you're in the middle of your

(09:21):
college career coming back and saying, hey, you didn't sign
this yearbook thing, and again it could have been a
better analogy, but the point just being he's got eighty
million dollars. He's in the pros beat it go pound saying,
which is really where we're at in this And if
Harbaugh would come back, the only body's coming back is
if missions Michigan's gone to hell and he comes back

(09:42):
to save and restore. Although, folks, you know in all
of these stories with Harbor, I always gott to remember,
remind folks, remember when you were all calling for him
to be fired before all of the last couple of years,
which coincidentally have all the stallions allegations tied to him,
just the growing it out there. He was not getting

(10:02):
it done at Michigan, and we were on air yelling
at folks saying, hey, what did you expect? You got
chem Beckler and a long line of men, Lloyd Carr
and a long line of Hey, and this coming from
the Northwestern guy. I know, but it's not about my team.
It's about the history of Michigan football. But for Jim Harbaugh,
this is a whole lot of nothing. He's gonna probably

(10:24):
have another great statement and with his relentless enthusiasm and
attack the day, talk about drinking milk or something like that,
and they're gonna go on and get ready for the
twenty twenty four season. For More and everybody else still
at Michigan, is there stuff to be concerned about? Yeah,
because clearly they've got an ax to grind. So for

(10:45):
those still in the program, this doesn't end. But for
Jim Harbaugh, no, I mean he's not going back anytime
soon because that would have meant catastrophic returns from the Chargers.
And I see billboards alongside accident attorneys that is not happening.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
See.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
Here's the thing, though, is I'm going the other way.
I don't think it's a big deal for Michigan either.
All this stuff the last couple of days. Of course,
this plays into the NCAAA investigating Michigan. They found out
Sharon Moore, the head coach, had text with Connor Stallions
that were deleted on the day that the report came out. Today,
Michigan's got somebody videotaping other sidelines. So here they are

(11:22):
coming in and the NCAA is coming to town for Michigan,
you know. Here and here they are doing it right
when the season's going to start, which is just bleeping ridiculous.

Speaker 4 (11:30):
Right, this is everything they've done forever, right, this is
the NCAA because they would have been lost in the
news cycle if it happened in May.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
Yeah, but this is something that I'm not worried about
because if they really were going to do this, they
would have already hammered Michigan. If they wanted to right Michigan,
they their head coach served in theory or in reality,
a half year suspension last year. Yes, you want to
go after him, but he's gone now, so you give
him this big one. This is the big thing to say. Okay,

(12:01):
Jim Harbar, you're gone now. We're gonna show you we
hate you. Were gonna make it really hard for you
to come back to college football. Okay, are you really
gonna come down incredibly hard on Michigan now after this?

Speaker 4 (12:11):
Probably not? All right?

Speaker 1 (12:12):
First of all, sure, on Moore, what's he gonna get.
Maybe he gets a three game suspension to start the season,
which is not that big a deal. There will be
some kind of minor penalty that Michigan will be able
to overcome. It's not gonna be something that sets them
back where, hey, you're ineligible for the postseason. We're not
getting gonna take the national tidle away.

Speaker 3 (12:31):
It will be something very minor.

Speaker 1 (12:33):
I'm not worried about that for Michigan, and for the
other reason is because are you really.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
Gonna do this to Michigan.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
Michigan is the biggest of big business for college football.
They are the rockstar program. They wouldn't do this to Alabama, right,
They wouldn't do it. They wouldn't do it to anybody,
Ye would Nick Saban, No, that's not happening. Michigan is
big business. Michigan is great for college football. If you're
talking about an ineligible Michigan team, suddenly it's whoa, whoa, whoa.
You have networks on the phone going, we got all
these Michigan games we pay Hang on a second, Hang on, Hey,

(13:01):
didn't didn't Michigan do enough?

Speaker 3 (13:02):
Didn't you penalize Harball? Didn't he?

Speaker 1 (13:04):
You have a six game suspension next year? Michigan's not
We got Michigan Iowa. We got Michigan, Michigan State, we
got Michigan Penn State.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
Hang on a second.

Speaker 4 (13:12):
Michigan is the official big noon kickoff team of Fox.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
You're gonna do that at Michigan is big business for
college football. Do you really think they're gonna be ineligible again?
Like any other big program. This is not something where
all of a sudden in retrospect now a year later,
they're gonna say, oh yeah, now we're gonna hammer you.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
It will be something minor.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
And then then in the totality you can say, all right,
so you had half a season for harball, you had
whatever gains for Sharon Moore, whatever, you want to get
some sort of of probationary period.

Speaker 4 (13:42):
You can't have any more.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
Infractions, or they'll cut scholarships a little bit. There will
be that kind of stuff, but it's not gonna be
anything Michigan can't overcome it. Okay, here it is, but
you should be okay. But we want to show you
that we're you know, we're we're nervous about this. We
don't want this to happen again again. Look, they should
have handled it. If they really wanted to handle it,
they would have said, Michigan, you're ineligible for the playoff.
Go through the whole season, after the Ohio State game,

(14:05):
guess what, You're ineligible for the playoff.

Speaker 3 (14:07):
That way, it's okay, Well you're taking somebody else.

Speaker 1 (14:09):
Somebody else is coming in, somebody else is gonna be
on TV in the final four games and it's not
as big a deal.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
You had chance to get it done.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
Now suddenly a whole year later, you're gonna come back
and say, Okay, now we're throwing the book at you.
I'm not concerned. It'll be very minor for Michigan.

Speaker 4 (14:22):
Well yeah, I mean, and again this isn't about the
sign stealing. This goes back to the COVID and recruiting
and cheeseburgers and all the chuckles that we had back
in the day. But it's all the you know, adding
up the cumulative effect to it all. But yeah, business
always wins. And it's the NCAA while they still have
the stationery and they haven't closed the doors yet like

(14:43):
the PAC twelve, that they've got to feel like they
still got something done because then they can throw himself
a big lunch and and pat themselves on the back.

Speaker 1 (14:51):
Exit out bout a Fresca, exit swallen down the Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike car I mean,
I'm stuck. And Pam's family they tech me, they email
what's going on?

Speaker 3 (15:01):
What have you heard? I'm like, you don't have anything
to worry about.

Speaker 1 (15:04):
So if it's all to realize that it's not just
you know, you listening that I'm responsible to. I got
people that I that I go to their house for
Thanksgiving that are telling me, Hey, you were wrong. You

live from the tire Rack dot com Studios. Now, before
we get into telling you how the four big quarterback
derbys in the NFL are gonna end, we've got news
on that coming.

Speaker 3 (17:21):
Up in a second.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
Just think about this, you know you're looking for a
bright side of the Jim Harbaugh. Sorry, right here comes
the NCAA to town. What's going on with Michigan. He
answered all the questions yesterday a Chargers camp about it,
and he's you know, focused with a laser like mentality
of being able to lift up his RV and throwing
it into the end zone and.

Speaker 3 (17:38):
Making sure that the whole team season.

Speaker 4 (17:41):
You know, just think about this for a second.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
Think about the head coaches that the Chargers have had
the last few years. How excited are you that it's like, Hey,
this coach will do anything to win?

Speaker 4 (17:51):
Is fit?

Speaker 1 (17:51):
This is exactly what we did. Is what we've been missing.
We need a guy that will do stuff like, hey,
we'll get the signals from the other team to go win.
We need a guy like this. We don't the guy
that just says, ah, let's go for it on fourth down?

Speaker 3 (18:03):
Why why not? Oh great, let's do it.

Speaker 1 (18:05):
Okay, Now they want they're like they're excited to have
a guy like Harball who will do stuff like that.

Speaker 4 (18:10):
Yeah, I mean, look, he didn't he didn't deny anything.
He just said he didn't want to apologize for.

Speaker 1 (18:20):
I'm not saying this is all completely out of left field.
I'm just saying I'm not gonna apology.

Speaker 4 (18:25):
Not gonna get an apology for me. Oh no. But
but that's the thing, right, you're talking about the margins.
You know, we've used long the hermed wards. You can
go either you know, don't hits end and all that stuff,
or you have the analogy of sweeping a room. Everybody
does the middle of the floor, nice and easy looks
for you know, the approval from the parental figure or whatever.

(18:48):
But then it's all about what's in the corners. Jim
har Harball likes to live in the corners. Right, It's
all about attention to detail and precision and you know,
really listen, enthusiasm and running you over. So all of
those things come together to say, yeah, you should be
in a feeling really good about what's about to transpire

(19:11):
here in Los Angeles.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
All right, So now when you take a look around
the NFL, we have news on Look, there's four big
quarterback Derby's going on right now.

Speaker 4 (19:20):
New England's got like a pseudo quarterback Derby.

Speaker 1 (19:22):
It's like, well, we think maybe Drake may at some point,
but now not for now, and pre sex number one,
and you know, maybe Joe Milder, but there's no Derby.

Speaker 4 (19:30):
Going Hey, there's no competition. Nothing to see here. Well,
the leader in the clubhouse step forward. Now, everybody just
stepped back.

Speaker 1 (19:37):
You are talking about Pittsburgh, Denver, Vegas, and Minnesota, right,
so let's tell you how. I'll tell you how all
these are going to go and where we're going to
be sitting for week one.

Speaker 3 (19:46):
Let's start with Minnesota first. Okay, because this is easy.

Speaker 1 (19:50):
Sam Darnold will start JJ McCarthy by mid season, all right,
McCarthy sitting now is okay.

Speaker 3 (19:56):
You're starting over in.

Speaker 1 (19:57):
Minnesota, right, You're not starting over like hey, three years
but okay, it's a bit of a restart with a jump.
It's not gonna be the worst thing in the world
for McCarthy to sit for the first few games and
really get what it's like to be an NFL player.

Speaker 4 (20:10):
Right.

Speaker 1 (20:10):
I thought he was overdrafted. I don't think he's gonna
be great, but he's going to play. He's a first
round pick. Donald will start. We have seen Sam Donald
start before. You know, he's capable of certain things. But
it will be McCarthy by mid season. I can't see
there being anything where suddenly, oh JJ McCarthy's gonna suddenly
kick it up ten notches in the next three weeks

(20:31):
and you're gonna start him. You don't want to start
him too early. You don't want to make things bigger
than it is. It's gonna be. It's gonna be Donald
and then McCarthy by mid season.

Speaker 4 (20:38):
Well, week six is thereby let's go through their schedule,
shall we? All right at the Giants, cool opportunity to
go way at the front office and everybody that's watched
the things for the Giants. Okay, so maybe one to zero,
but then you've got San Francisco and Houston at home

(20:58):
on the road at Green Bay, and then you get
the Jets at home week six. By so week seven,
plenty of time to coach him up. So JJ McCarthy
makes his debut with another home game against the Detroit Lions.

Speaker 1 (21:12):
Look, this is how it's gonna go. This is the
easiest one, right, everybody's on board. Where No one's upset.
There's no oh if you do this, and no, so
Minnesota is an easy one.

Speaker 4 (21:21):
That's too bad because you got you do have a
lot of offensive talent. And now you're just kind of
shrugging it. And again you're sitting right now.

Speaker 3 (21:27):
I've watched Sam Darnold play quarterback.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
I'm not worried about suddenly look how good he is
in his seventh offensive system. He's finally figured out. No
guys like Donald and Zach Wilson. I'm not worried about
these guys suddenly finding it in a new location.

Speaker 4 (21:41):
I'm not gonna lie, though, I am cheering like hell
for it. Not that they necessarily win a bunch of teams.
I mean again, Bears win a bunch of games, and
that the team has great success. But I hope it's
not because he throws up on himself. I hope he
looks good. So there's at least enough of you going.
And I got to sit here with Rogers, assuming Rogers

(22:02):
is still there when and we ate when we're still
talking about the.

Speaker 1 (22:05):
Jetson now for the Raiders, this one is pretty simple
because there's only one problem with the with the quarterback derby,
they have the only one problem with Gardner Minshew and
aid and O'Connell. There's only one problem with these guys.
One problem, raiders. One problem has only one problem. You're surprising, right,
but there's only one problem with these two.

Speaker 3 (22:23):
You're one problem.

Speaker 4 (22:24):
Boil it down to brass tacks.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
Only one problem is only one problem with aid and
O'Connell and Gardner Minshew.

Speaker 4 (22:29):
Let me raise my hand and ask the question like
horse shack at the shack of the welcome back cotter,
because we have an audience that spans like generations here, ooh, ooh, ooh,
what's that problem, mister Cotta. They both stink. That's the problem.
They both stink. Look neither small actually done.

Speaker 1 (22:51):
Look, neither of them were lighting it up so far
in preseason, and and maybe right now Gardner Minshew leads
by a little bit. But if it comes down to
a toss up between Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell, what
are you gonna do?

Speaker 4 (23:05):
Well, let's go with.

Speaker 1 (23:06):
Gardner Minshew, who's been in the league for eight years now.
We know he's a backup who can start if you
need him to. He's the perfect backup. That's Gardner Minshew's
he's a little flaky. He's fun if he needs to
play a couple of times. Hey, he's an energetic guy.
He is the perfect backup. No, you're gonna go with
the younger guy. And granted Aidan O'Connell is only twenty
to only three years younger, but you're gonna go with
a guy who's been in the league for a year.

(23:27):
That has upside that maybe after his first year, first
another camp, getting way more reps. So if it comes
down to it, and it's even, they'll go with Aidan
O'Connell to start the season.

Speaker 4 (23:36):
Yeah, I know DeVante Adams. Remember when he was doing
like ninety seven media appearances. I think we're the only
show he didn't come on.

Speaker 1 (23:43):
Yeah, that's okay, true brees didn't get off the line.
So I mean we'll get him on again. We'll get
him on when Jets got him, We'll get him on
with the Jets.

Speaker 4 (23:49):
Okay, so there you go. That'll be a big coup
as it were. But he kind of half assed indoorsed
to O'Connell at that point. Now, it was early in camp,
but seem like he's established enough of a rapport last
year that thought maybe he could take a little bit
of a step forwards. And as we've talked about for years,
Gardner Minshew's that guy you like on your squad, that

(24:12):
backup that can come in for a month and give
you a little bit of energy and excitement and some
big throws and some harrowing throws along the way. But yeah,
O'Connell should win this.

Speaker 1 (24:24):
Now let's get to Denver because this is where things
are going to get a little bit more harrowing. But
I am fully confident by the end of training camp
when the season begins, bo Nix is going to be
under center. I know he just got the designation of
quarterback three. Meanwhile, I'll guess what bo Nicks and Jared's
did Him are splitting the number one reps. Zach Wilson
is out of the mix for reps with the first team, right,

(24:45):
So that's that's how far Zach Wilson has fallen already. Hey,
you're not getting reps with the ones, so you're out.
Jared's Didham is not a guy that you will get
by with. He's not, right, Gardner Minshew. If this was
Gardner Minshew and bo Nix, I would I say Okay, no, no,
I can see Gardner Minshew for a few weeks and
then to bon Knicks. But Jared Siddam's not a guy
that you go, yes, this is our guy. He's never

(25:07):
proven himself. He's never proven he can do anything. He's
there to push Bonnicks to make it seem like there's
an alternative. But I guarantee you the big evil plot
of that you're looking at in Denver with Sean Payton says, Hey,
this is what I'm doing right now. I'm gonna challenge
bon Nicks. I'm gonna see if he's my guy. It's
a big social experiment. Let's see how it goes, and

(25:27):
if it plays out the way I think it's gonna
play out, Bonnicks is going to energize the team. He's
gonna really step up, and he's going to be the
quarterback week one. If they had another guy that you
could play, I would say you'll sit bon Nicks. But really,
Jared Sidam's not a guy you can play. He's not
to Rod Taylor. He's not a guy he can start.
He's not Chakobe Brissett.

Speaker 3 (25:44):
He's just a guy.

Speaker 1 (25:45):
So yeah, when it comes down to it, Bonnicks is starting,
and if he's not, that's a huge red flag for
bon Nicks. If he can't come out of this training,
can't be in the starting quarterback.

Speaker 4 (25:54):
Well, Jared Stidham year or two with the Broncos, Remember
he was being coached up by a former defensive coordinator
turned offensive coordinator as a member.

Speaker 1 (26:04):
Of the I'm not saying they.

Speaker 4 (26:07):
Really help you. Then he was a raider for crying
out loud.

Speaker 2 (26:09):
I mean.

Speaker 4 (26:11):
Again, I'm not saying we don't know what he is.

Speaker 3 (26:15):
He's a jag.

Speaker 4 (26:17):
So unless bo Nicks again is is just that awful.
You got to figure out what you have a earlier
rather than later. I mean, saving him for good when
you're a team projected to be in the bottom three
for win total isn't really helping you, know, the Seaun
Payton era push forward, right, You need to know what

(26:39):
you've got and make that determination early on. Uh So,
go take your lumps and get acclimated to life in
the NFL.

Speaker 1 (26:48):
The Jason Spencer with Mike Carbon Live from the Tyreck
dot Com serios. All right, so that's three quarterback derbys.
Now we get to the big one when Zack Wilson's
not involved. Yeah, Zach Wilson's already dropped out of reps
for with the one. John Payton had some great quotes
in a article. But what that may be the trade
the best traded the last twenty four years. Wait, the

(27:08):
Broncos actually gave up as something that's an asset for
Zach Wilson.

Speaker 4 (27:12):
Really, the Jets are able.

Speaker 1 (27:13):
Really, Russell Wilson, with a calf injury, isn't going to
play in the Steelers opener. Justin Fields will get a
couple of series in their opener, but Wilson is listed
as the starting quarterback on the initial depth chart. Look,
this is going to begin the season. Russell Wilson will start.

(27:34):
But all we've seen in the last week is how
much Justin Fields has impressed the coaching staff, impressed the team.
I knew he was gonna start early. I said by
week five. All he's done in the last week is
is make that time frame speed up to maybe it's
week three, because the Steelers aren't going to be if
they're coming out of the first three weeks. They're one
and two with no touchdown. Guess what we gotta go

(27:55):
to Justin Fields. The Steelers are playing this really carefully,
like they are really cow telling to everything with Russell Wilson,
knowing that, hey, if we make we can make one
move because who knows what's gonna happen with ru We
may have to release him if if Russell Wilson loses
a starting job. They know they can make this move.
Once and Wilson came in and he talks himself up

(28:16):
and all right, they went out to get him.

Speaker 3 (28:18):
I can see it. You can.

Speaker 1 (28:19):
You can start Russell Wilson and then eventually you're gonna
go to Justin Fields. But it's gonna happen soon. Justin
Fields is a better quarterback. Wilson still dinged up a
little bit, but it doesn't matter. Field has made plays.
He's gonna be terrific in this offense. And the sooner
he plays, the better. All he's done is is accelerate
that timeline where I'm thinking now it's gonna be week
three instead of week five because Russell Wilson is washed.

(28:41):
He's absolutely washed. So it'll it'll still start Wilson. It'll
upset a lot of people. Boy, Wilson's still starting, but
you're gonna see by the end of September you will
see Justin Field starting a quarterback for the Steelers.

Speaker 4 (28:52):
Yeah. I think the thing that complicates to out of
the jump is the fact that he got hurt on
a dopey exercise when he did the sled. We talked
about that he got hurt. How do he hurt himself? Well,
he wanted to be one of the guys and they
had the quarterbacks to the sled. Why is the quarterback
doing the sled? Offensive linemen are pushing in front of
you in goal line in short yarded situations, and if

(29:15):
you develop some semblance of the Eagles push push, you're
just getting pushed forward. I know you don't want to
skip leg day. I seem like the quarterbacks and kickers
should have been exempt from that one. So that may
complicate things, is that we screwed it up by getting
him hurt on it drill. He shouldn't have been a
bart of. But for Justin Fields, Yeah, it's been a

(29:35):
walking running highlight film one day after the next. Just
imagine what happens once Brandon Ayuk shows up and he's
catching passes out there. Remember I told you what they.

Speaker 1 (29:46):
Weren't dead Smith, But hey, more time goes on that
there's no deal with the Browns. That opens the door
more for the Steelers to get back in because maybe
it's oh, you're coming back to us now, well, yeah,
where's they're off for come down to Because we weren't
going to pay what that last one was. We'll pay
something a little bit less. Now we're still lichit in Brandon.

Speaker 4 (30:05):
I you give me a call, sent out the bat
signal to Omar Khan and here we are. But yeah,
Justin Fields is on the rise, and they seem to
have found the proper system for him with Arthur Smith
as opposed to whatever you would call what the Bears
were running.

Speaker 1 (30:22):
So there you go. There is where your quarterback derbys
are going to be week one. Some of them will
change by the middle of the season, but week one,
that's how.

Speaker 3 (30:29):
It's gonna go.

Speaker 1 (30:29):
Right now, we're gonna go to Martin Weiss find out
what's trending in the wide world of sports.

Speaker 4 (30:34):
I'm dub well right.

Speaker 7 (30:36):
Now the NL East leading Philadelphia Phillies and A West
leading Los Angeles Dodgers. Right now in Chevez Ravine two
to one, Dodgers lead off home run by Kyle Schwarmer
at the top of the first Dodgers took the lead
back in the bottom on RBI singles from Freddie Freeman
and Miguel Rojas right now top and the second inning
there it's a wild one right now in Pittsburgh as

(30:57):
San Diego and Pittsburgh now nine to eight. You may
remember the last time I did this, updated with six
to six in the bottom of the ninth all types
of runs being scored, pitchclock violations. Will keep you updated
on that one as things progressed there again nine to
eight bottom of the tenth inning with two outs.

Speaker 5 (31:14):
Earlier today, the Angels beat oh Tigers. Just hit a
home run three to nothing over the Mariners. Right now,
who would leave the AL West.

Speaker 7 (31:20):
Angels beat the Yankees eight to two in the Bronx,
New York is now tied with Baltimore top to AL East.
Diamondbacks took both games against the Guardians, and their double
header moved three games three and a half games back
of the Dodgers for the top spot in the NL West.

Speaker 5 (31:34):
Clubs outscored the Twins eight to two. Minnesota is now
three and a half back of.

Speaker 7 (31:37):
Cleveland, and the Central Astros beat the Rangers six to four.
They're tied with Seattle for the top spot in the
Al West, and the White Sox streak lasted one game. Yeah,
Oakland beat Chicago three to two. Around the NFL, you
guys are just talking about it. The Steelers, they're still alive,
per Mike Harmon and the athletic and talks of the

(31:57):
trading for forty nine ers wide receiver than Ayuk the Lions.

Speaker 5 (32:01):
I'm sorry.

Speaker 7 (32:02):
The forty nine Ers are working on at finalizing the
deal with the former Lions safety Tracy Walker. As per
Matt Barrows, Walker had forty three career starts, had a
workout today with the San Francisco Speaking of the forty
nine Ers, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry running back,
they will not play in the preseason game on Friday
against the Eagles Josh Johnson against the not at quarterback Jets.

(32:24):
Wide receiver Mike Williams activated off the pup list. He's
recovering from a torn acl last season. Falcons wide receiver
Rondell Moore carted off the field earlier today I.

Speaker 5 (32:33):
Practice with an air cast on his right leg.

Speaker 7 (32:36):
The NFL has no comment on potential discipline of Jim Harbodge.
You guys were talking about in the first segment and
Ezekiel Elliott per the depth chart just released.

Speaker 5 (32:46):
The more things James, the more they say the same.

Speaker 7 (32:48):
He's back as the starting tailback for the Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (32:52):
Wow, it's like it's twenty sixteen, Martin Wise, where were
you at twenty sixteen?

Speaker 5 (32:55):
Where was I? I was back in Detroit and about
thirty pounds lighter. I know that.

Speaker 3 (33:03):
Very nice, my friend, very nice. Uh So there it is.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
I'll tell you, Hey, I think we were all thirty
pounds lighter in twenty sixteen.

Speaker 3 (33:09):
I'm not pretty sure we were.

Speaker 6 (33:11):
No.

Speaker 4 (33:11):
Actually, I'm getting lean now. You know, get get people scared.
You know when when you go to doctors Smith, they
couldn't scare you any when you get older.

Speaker 3 (33:20):
Okay, No, that's good.

Speaker 4 (33:22):
That's good, Norley, say scared me. If you're feeling good,
you know, and fat and happy, that's good bye by me.

Speaker 1 (33:27):
You know what I'm saying is that, Hey, I want
to make everybody feel good about Hey, whatever it is.

Speaker 4 (33:31):
You go. No, No, I'm the guy that's lost weight.
I'm the guy me. Look at me, I'm the guy
now I had to come to Jesus.

Speaker 3 (33:37):
Is what I was saying no.

Speaker 4 (33:38):
And you want to rub people's noses and it I
did not. I wasn't doing that at all. This guy
is saying not me though. Hey, Hey I'm down, Smith,
Hey I'm down. Who are the people talking?

Speaker 3 (33:47):
You and me? Yeah? That's what you did.

Speaker 4 (33:48):
You potted Martin down? And it was you and me?

Speaker 3 (33:51):
How did I didn't pot anybody down?

Speaker 1 (33:53):
And don't tell me I'm doing pot on the radio.
Don't tag me with that either.

Speaker 4 (33:57):
Stop it. How you put on the extra thirty pounds?
Don't you remember those videos? Exit?

Speaker 3 (34:03):
How about a Fresca exit? Swollen dome?

Speaker 4 (34:05):
You're still swollen dome.

Speaker 3 (34:06):
You would be skinnier dome if it was you. Still.

Speaker 4 (34:08):
You know, my head is actually shrinking.

Speaker 1 (34:11):
My head is shrinking. My hat size now with only
eight and a quarter, it is smaller and small. Well,
I'm going for bochee Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Carmon live from the Tirack dot Com
Studios coming up next after today. I really wonder if
one head coach is up for his job, if he's
got what it takes to actually be a head coach

(34:34):
in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (34:35):
That's next right here, Jason and Mike Fox.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (34:47):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmen
Live from the tiraq dot Com Studios. We'll break down
the game of the day coming up in about ten minutes.
But uh, after today, you know, there comes times when
I see things that happen with a team and I say,
is the head coach really ready for this?

Speaker 4 (35:09):
Is?

Speaker 3 (35:09):
Is he ready for what's gonna happen? And certain things.

Speaker 1 (35:12):
Sometimes it could be as subtle as something they say
in a postgame, but it's always there's a point sometimes
with coaches, new coaches, where I go, yeah, I don't
know if he's up for this, And it makes me
really nervous about how the season's gonna go. And after today,
and after what happened at Seahawks camp today, I'm nervous
that Michael McDonald isn't really up for being a head coach,

(35:33):
isn't ready for what this is gonna gonna entail because
I don't know how much his players respect him. I
don't know a lot of things after what happened today.
Now you probably heard the headline DK Metcalf. They probably
saw the highlight on NFL network because it went on
behind the guys while they were talking. After a play
that got het a DK Metcalf took off one of
his teammates.

Speaker 3 (35:53):
Tummet and swung it at him and hit him in
the head. Right, WHOA, whoa, whoa dude? What is going
on here?

Speaker 1 (35:59):
This is part of a practice where five fights broke out,
five including DK Metcalf taking off a guy's helmet and
swinging at his head at it, which, oh, by the way,
is a little bit dangerous, just a tiny bit dangerous.

Speaker 4 (36:14):
Now.

Speaker 3 (36:15):
Michael McDonald stopped practice after the third fight.

Speaker 1 (36:18):
They had a conversation middle of the field after the
DK Metcalf stuff happened, and then they went back to practice.
Two more fights broke out after that. So A, are
they really listening to the coach? And B does he
have control over what's going on? And is he strong
enough to make decisions? This is where if you're a coach,
you send those guys off the field and say, guys,
you know what we're done, We're done. You can't and

(36:39):
then you figure out some way till everybody know you
mean business.

Speaker 3 (36:42):
You have a fight in training camp. I get it right.

Speaker 1 (36:45):
You get the Giants and Lions going at it, and
Daniel Jones jumps in.

Speaker 3 (36:48):
I understand that's part of training camp.

Speaker 1 (36:50):
Five fights in one practice and then the coach goes
on TV after an NFL network and says, hey, you
know the guy you know, we had a good conversation.
DK had a great message for the team after practice.

Speaker 4 (36:59):
Woa you let the guy.

Speaker 3 (37:01):
I guess he's your star receiver.

Speaker 1 (37:02):
You had the guy who took off somebody's helmet and
swung it at somebody could have really hurt him. You
let him talk to the team. You said, hey, we
all talked afterwards. We had a great message. Everything is fine,
and guys are just you know, hey, we don't want
guys fighting, but hey, we just put out and put
everything in a perspective after practice. Ay, I don't think
they're listening to you, and b I don't think you
really know how how to run a team because five fights.

(37:23):
I mean, come on, man, seriously, you let five fights go.
I get you let one fight go, you let two fights?
All right, Well, here's the thing. One more happens. But
you had three fights, then you talk to the team,
and then they still had two more fights after And
these were all different players, not the same back These
are all different players. So it's not like one guy
just really just had something going nuts today and he

(37:45):
was starting. You had all different players getting caught up
in this. I really I wonder if Michael McDonald is
up for what it means to be an NFL at
coach because this is a big thing today and boy
did he just fail this test.

Speaker 4 (37:56):
Yeah. See, this is where as a dad of well,
they're now teenagers, but you know when they were younger
and they'd be, you know, kind of fighting and getting
into each other's space in the back of the car.
Now they drive themselves, but back in the day and
be like, I'll turn this thing around. We're not gonna
go out for dinner. I'm gonna turn this thing around.
And then they do it again. I'm not kidding. We're

(38:19):
still two miles away from where we're headed. And then
eventually you just go to dinner because you're hungry and
you don't really do anything about it, and the way
back like all right, well you're gonna go straight to
your room. It's like, ah, they were going straight to
their room anyway, because it was the end of the night.
It was time for sleep. But that's McDonald here. I
want to know what the message from metcalf was. Hopefully

(38:41):
there's some audio that leaks out of that. The hell
don't touch me because.

Speaker 1 (38:47):
If you want to grab somebody's helmet, make sure you're
grabbed by the face mask and yeay, because their head
will come down.

Speaker 4 (38:52):
You can pull it right off.

Speaker 1 (38:53):
Then when you swing it, make sure you're holding the
face mask and you can get your real hand around
and you get control. If you're just holding it by
the back of it or by the ear hole, you
can mess up your finger or something.

Speaker 3 (39:02):
Now you've got to be there, could hold on that.

Speaker 1 (39:04):
You swing that thing just roundhouse on somebody at the
top of their head.

Speaker 4 (39:08):
Yeah, because your fingers are important and obviously you don't
want to, you know, have some range of motion that
hurts your rotator cuff because now you range emotion is
gonna be limited. You're not gonna be able to lay
yourself out from when one of our quarterbacks gives us
an errand ball to catch. You make fun of your
own squad. But yeah, guys are in a good spot,

(39:28):
but reminding them why they're out here, what we're trying
to get it accomplished, talking about you know, we've been
plugged fighting against each other and all that. Yeah, that's
a great talking point. Uh, this is just a terrible Look,
what's what's the fine? Right fights? I don't even know
if there is, Well, the league's got to come in,
don't they. I mean, even if even if they're just

(39:48):
beating the hell out of themselves, if it's the league.

Speaker 1 (39:50):
Is gonna say, hey, you just uh yeah, we had
a guy take off his hell and take off somebody's
helmet if it was in the middle of an NFL Network.

Speaker 4 (39:56):
Live shot right behind it.

Speaker 1 (39:58):
Yeah, Hey, listen, we're gonna screw that video from our
website so no one can have it.

Speaker 4 (40:03):
And you know, there's a app that it is that
keeps getting advertised on my Instagram account.

Speaker 3 (40:07):
That'll work that out for.

Speaker 4 (40:09):
People will forget about a couple of days.

Speaker 1 (40:10):
My favorite line was when he was asked an NFL
network hey, hey, where's the line drawing when it comes to.

Speaker 3 (40:15):
Fighting at practice?

Speaker 4 (40:16):
He said, quote, we're right on the line right now.

Speaker 3 (40:19):
You have five fights.

Speaker 4 (40:20):
You can't even see the line.

Speaker 3 (40:22):
The line is so far behind you.

Speaker 1 (40:24):
It's like season two of True Detective when Vince Vaughn's
wife tells him, all, honey, you stop walking all the
way back there, and Vince Vaughn turns around and he's
lying dead, like fifty yards behind me.

Speaker 4 (40:34):
Was walking like, dude, you can't even see the line.

Speaker 3 (40:37):
We were up to the line.

Speaker 4 (40:38):
You passed that line, man, it's gone. Swing that helmet man,
What's wonder is he doing this in Seattle? Coming up next,
we break down the game of the day.
