(00:51):
an unbelievable first big weekend at college football. We have
a crazy game going on right now. But it's not
often that we need to worry about the welfare of
a fan. All right, and then I bring this out.
We need to check in on a very specific fan
because of what's going on right now between Boston College
and Florida State. Very specific, I mean it's it's mentioning

(01:13):
this across the Fox Sports Radio airwaves, like one of
those where hey, if you say it enough, people listen,
we can help.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Somebody's a giant hund four hundred plus creeping in on
five hundred yay at Fox Sports Radio at how about
a Fresco at Swollen Dome with the hashtag virtual hug. Yeah,
it's like the It's like the woman who tells everybody
the contract on John Wick is available, and oh, go
catch him at the Octa Triumph. You know, it's like, hey,

(01:41):
she's letting all the assassins know, Oh, that's where John
Wick is. John Wick is like, gee, thanks a lot,
and then they play Nowhere to Run and John Wick
kills everybody around the Octa Triumph like eleven thousand times.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
Yea happy belated birthday. Keanu Reeves turned sixty Yeah I
know right and still and still still cold killer. But
there is a fan we do have to watch out
for because after this post today that has been making
its way around, he has deleted his social media account.
There's a guy who apparently is a big Florida State fan.

(02:11):
Picture of him, he's on social media, it's like his
his handle is like three two one knoll and ol
e big Florida State t shirts, got a hat on
cigar and he writes, if Florida State loses to BC
this weekend, I will eat dog blank out of a
red Solo cup with a spoon and post a video
of me doing it. Wait, wait, book it Okay? Right now,

(02:36):
Boston College leads Florida State late in the third quarter
twenty one to thirteen, and we need to look out
for this dude. We need we need to find them
me to look out.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
For him, and we need to do an intervention for him.
He right, you know, the red solo cup is the
perfect receptacle.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Right now, he's in the store crying, going just give
me the small thing of red solo cups. I don't
know what to do. I just get it doesn't matter,
It doesn't matter.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
To his friend's family gather around and sing Toby Keith's
Red Solo Cup to him.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Well, that would be the song playing while he is
whatever part Yeah sure, sure, no, that's good. What was
funny watching this game?

Speaker 4 (03:12):
Right?

Speaker 3 (03:12):
And obviously this is one of those games that is
part of the ongoing carriage struggle when it comes to
direct TV and Disney Properties witness this weekend. We'll get
into that more as the show goes on. So it's
a good thing I brought my iPad in so we're
able to watch, but with volume up before we got

(03:33):
on air and listening to the broadcast. When about midway
through the second quarter, Florida State gets a possession of
bad BC punt and like, this has.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
Got to be a touchdown drive. It has to be.
This game is going to be out of reach. They're
getting dominated. Okay it was fourteen.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Yeah, they drive down and ninety seconds later they end
up kicking a field.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Well, they're worried about this dude, obviously, and they didn't
want to say anything. Well, I mean they could have
brought it to the nationwide attention there and he would
have gotten a lot of actual hugs. And can I
bring this up on the air. No, but enough people
know it. Just say it and people understand how how
dire of a situation is We spend an hour of
broadcast talking about someone's dog. Anyway, why can't we do this?

(04:17):
That's true? Hey, well hey, uh wait a minutes, Wow,
did you just you just take you just take a
shot at Ben. You just take a shot at Ben
spend all that we spend a lot of time talking
about Ben again, Ben lived, Ben is living his best life,
and I hope he'd continue. I gotta say, do you
think just really quick, just because it hit me this
weekend seeing Ben in the booth with Kirk Kurfree, is
this Ben's like does he want to sit there? And

(04:40):
I don't know for four hours? Like I think because
there was a big thread where somebody going back and
fighting people on Twitter. Yeah, but like like like like
like does a dog don't sit there for four hours?
Like Doug can be played with and stuff? Do different?
And I mean maybe they are. Maybe they're going to
feed them hot dogs and stuff.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
Maybe the only time it was actually in the booth
with them is when he's on air.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Otherwise he's got for the photo opportunity over the photo.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
But he's down there after round and he's actually living
his best life, meeting lots of people, shaking hands, kissing babies,
all those kind of things you can get, you know,
I have pictures with Ben yeah and make sales.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
Yeah yeah, I mean it could happen and uh boy,
uh maybe maybe by the spoon to go with the
red solo man, Boston College is in the end zone again.
Bill O'Brien and the Eagles twenty seven thirteen extra point
pending a minute to go in the third quarter.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
You know what, he's a better GM of a college
team than he was the Well if he if he
blows his game, he will trade everybody from Boston Combo.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
But here's the other He'll trade Flutey and I mean
Darren Flutey. He'll trade everybody. They were sixteen and a
half point. Yeah, he'll trade everyone.

Speaker 4 (05:46):
Like.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
That's the other thing you underscore here. It's not just
a wins and loss thing. Oh yeah, yeah, Florida State
was a sixteen and a half point in favorite. Okay,
I'll trade say Flowers, he'll trade everybody, get rid of
He'll get rid of everybody. Man, I'm gonna I'm gonna
pull pull uh posters down everything, getting trading everybody. Let's go.
But I know one guy.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
He's not going to trade Joe Hamilton's stuff anymore. No,
come on, that's long gone, man, that's all Canada. Well
Joe Hamilton stuck in Canada.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
Come on.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
The one guy he won't trade for is dj Uiyanilaa. No,
it's not gonna he's he's not gonna want him, who,
once upon a time was the next great Clemson quarterback
was taking over for Trevor Lawrence. And now I think
people turn on TV because you're obviously, you know, missing
the game last week, most likely because it was Dublin
it was a hot time and going, oh, this guy's
he's playing for Florida State. Now, oh, okay, third stop

(06:37):
for dj Uiana La, who has every skill in the book.
He is big, he is mobile, he is strong, he
can throw. There's just one problem. There's really one problems.
One problem. All of that that equation still comes back
and that other variable is large enough to negate all
the jack one problem. I'll say this because he's a
college player. There's only one problem with Djana l A. Right,
it's not a pro yet. I know he's getting money.

(06:58):
There's got a lot of money. But I know he's
not a probably, But there's only one problem with dj Oil.
So what is that problem? He might not be very good, yea,
that might be the thing. Well, you know what's funny.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
Last week, as we opened our Monday show, we're talking
about the week at week zero games and looking specifically
at Florida State. Remember the most dangerous words I brought
up for September for Colorado and the Unders that okay,
but the idea for college football of like, at least
there's a twelve team playoff because if you're already saying that,

(07:29):
you know your team is cooked, wishing and hoping. And
for Florida State, the way they got dominated, yeah last
week and then this week. Look with dj he's at
at least one hundred yards of offense left on the
turf and his receivers.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
Not out of fact, there were a couple of droughts,
but still dude has been now his third stop right
he washed out on excues It was at an okay
year with Oregon State and then parlayed that into okay,
Now I'm jumping from Oregon State and the Big two.
Now I'm jumping a high level acc taking over for
a quarterback that nearly got them to the playoff last year,

(08:04):
probably should have got him in the playoffs. And all
to do is make Florida State fans mad, going, we
should have got it last year. We're gonna stink this year.
We should have got it last year. But he's not
being written and it's not been good tonight, like he
just that touchdown drive to make it when at the
time to make it twenty twenty one thirteen, like he
may have saved his job for the time being with

(08:26):
that drive, because that might have been it. He's good
drive time to come out like he might. He just
up for a guy who's this this much sought after
and he was the next he was the chosen one.
And again you with a dozer what uh? And it
took us a long time. Now, Okay, he's gonna be
really good. No, and now is his third team. It's
he just might not be good now.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
Watching Boston College, right, they've got good pressure up front,
their thin at cornerback. Uh, but they're coaching them up.
Our guy, former Fox Sports radio co host of Mine
on Sundays, Will Blackman, NFL player getting after Amo.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
Yeah, Will Bakes. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
I remember while he was studying for all that, and
he would teach me and I'd do some quizzing.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
Oh yeah, so yeah I did when when he filled
in for you a couple of times when he was out, Like,
we would talk wine all the time, and I'm not
a wine guy, and I would still talk why.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
Why I enjoyed that. He gave me a couple of
book recommendations. They're on my on my cabinet now. But
it's it's just the idea that they've gotten enough pressure,
and he's just so insistent. I'm throwing a ball to
an area. Yeah, it doesn't matter if I'm about to
get hit and drilled and dropped. And he threw an
interception that was unconscionable into like he had a receiver

(09:31):
that was streaking up running along the sideline and he
underthrows him. It gets picked and returned because he's got
a convoy in front of him. It's fifty seven yard
down and that eventually made it twenty one what was
it twenty one six at that point. So back to
his uneven performance, and obviously the stats tell you everything

(09:52):
you need to know. A couple of drops, a big
play potential that might have even things out, because that's
the thing, right, even when it was middle of the
second quarter and it's fourteen to nothing and they're being
dominated from pillar to post, like we always watch in
these games, you're one or two big plays and we
get them. In college football, we get a lot of
big plays over the course of a game, and when

(10:13):
you're expected to dominate again the sixteen and a half
point spread that eventually you're going to break one or two,
and they had and they had a couple of opportunities
that were left on the turf, and now it's they're
they're getting run over again. So that part of the
equation showing. So yeah for Florida State, all those columns

(10:33):
of hey we still have a fighting chance, now it's
gonna be a picture of a floating dumpster that is
on fire.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
The Jason Smiths Show with Mike Carmon Live from the
tyrech dot Com Studios. Now this brings us to the
other big story from the We had a lot of
college football to break down, but tonight, oh apparently John
Wick is out there. It's coming to game. Uh, the
other big thing, and this game feeds into it. As

(11:02):
many people turned on their TVs and said, wait a minute,
usc LSU, I'm not going to get to see this game. Wait.
Carriage dispute between ESPN and Direct TV and they didn't
have the game yesterday. Pretty big story. They've not been
able to settle their differences, and tonight same thing. Oh
maybe they'll solve it by today. Nope, nope, nope, So
you are likely if you have that, you are not

(11:23):
getting the Florida State Boston College game. It is a thing.
You get that message that says our contract with Disney,
the owner of this channel, has expired, and they always
want to use that day. It's not our fault, it's
their fault. You blame them. And I understand the blaming,
and I understand that you have to play poker. And
with the way cable is right now and how things

(11:45):
change in the cable industry and it's harder to make
money and cable channels are trying to hold on for
as long as they can, I understand that. But I
hate Direct TV and I hate ESPN for this because
this is something where we're the ones that pay right,
I mean, and I don't even have Direct TV, and
I'm saying how much I hate them for this because
we're the ones who pay for this. It's not my fault.

(12:07):
You can't figure that out, right, It's not my fault.
But I understand. Don't spring it on me just to
get me pissed off. Right, let me know a few
days ahead of time. Hey, if we don't have this resolved,
we're not gonna have the game on Sunday, so make
plans to find another way to go watch the game.
Don't spring it on me twenty minutes before the game's

(12:27):
gonna start. That's stupid, that's all. That is awful business.
And I don't want to give direct TV or ESPN
business after this. It's like, don't don't make me the
political football and this don't make the people who watch
the games. If you can't figure it out. I understand, right,
big biz, get it. But you spring it on me
because oh, we really want you to get pissed off.
We want you to get mad about it and and
help I help us figure this out. That's not my problem.

(12:48):
That's not my problem. I pay you every month, and
you promise me that you're giving me all this. You're
giving me the sports you go. I pay for these channels.
You have to figure and if you can't figure it out,
I understand, but you're you're pushing this at me and
this is not my responsibility. You gotta let me. This
is like when I see people who want to walk
on the freeway to protest something, I'm like, okay, all
you're not helping a protest by walking on the freeway.

(13:11):
All you do is potentially getting hit by a car. Right,
what are you doing?

Speaker 4 (13:14):
Like?

Speaker 1 (13:15):
Make sure you do this the right way? And if
that was gonna happen, this needed to be a hey
full thing. We know, put it on the bottom line
when I'm on the thing. Hey, this channel could go
away Sunday if we don't strike a deal. BA, just
so I know. Okay, And twenty minutes before the game,
I'm not all, well, how am I gonna watch this gate?
Can I find it somewhere else? Because then there's twenty
minutes You're trying to find it on an app? Do

(13:35):
I have it here? Then you're texting your friends do
you have the game? Can I come over? Are we watching?
I'm gonna go to a bar to watch, Like usc
LSU is a big deal tonight. It's the one game.
Georgia Tech and or Florida State and Boston College is
the one game. Don't don't make me a part of this.
You can't figure it out. You figured it out. I
pay my money, We all pay our money. You figure

(13:55):
it out.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
Well, think about the number of bars that suddenly went
dark and got that error message minutes before? So yeah,
I mean you talk about the contracts, and I get it.
Deadlines necessity, you know, get that sense of urgency and
get people back to the table. The thing is they

(14:16):
the deadline was well known by the participants of this dispute.
In other words, we gotta get this done by football,
and it should have been done right once. You don't
have to blink. It's just the all right, let's meet
in the middle and figure this out, especially with more
and more ability to go to the apps. Right, you
want to watch Sunday night football? Guess what you got?

(14:36):
You got peacock for five bucks a month or five
ninety nine a month whenever you can start to parse
it out. Is it a pain in the ass, Yes,
But you can ditch the overall cable thing. You can
find products in the open marketplace that give you an
antenna that can get you a bunch of channels. Like,
there's a lot of ways around this. And to your point,

(14:57):
if I have alternatives, guess what you probably lose me
if you take away the one thing I care about
most And what do we know in time and time again?
As much as people love the reality shows and deciding
on the Bachelor, the Bachelorette, the Golden Bachelor. All of
these people who's stranding on an island, who's naked and
afraid all that stuff. Live sports still wins everything. So

(15:20):
that's who you need to figure out and not piss
them off so they go to your competition.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
It's it's I mean, I see this and it says, oh,
let me try to figure out the bet. Let's try
to figure out the best way to invoke reaction. I
was like, I'm not a part of this. I'm not
a part, but oh but we're gonna pay because you
can't figure it out. And why we don't like I
hate that business prospect as all, Well, we can't figure it.
So let's see who the fans are gonna get more
mad at. Are they gonna get mad at ESPN? All

(15:45):
we want to do is put sports on TV. No,
they're gonna get mad at the GIVE and is the
cable provider gonna say, oh, you're not gonna get mad
at that's you to get mad at the ESPN. Let's
see who people wind up getting more mad at, and
then we could probably win. No, this is why you
guys make big money. This is why CEOs make all
kinds of cab. You figure crap like this out and
don't make me a part of it unless if you
then call me and tell me, and I'll get on

(16:06):
the phone and I'll say, hey, listen, let's do this,
let's do this. Let's but if you're not going to
do that, then figure it out and don't spring it
on me. Just give me a warning, at least to
the littlest you can do it. Give me a warning
about it.

Speaker 3 (16:16):
Well, short term, I want a credit on my account
for all the different Disney channels that would be out
there right because they're multiple, right, the multiple Espns and
that whole suite of networks that are part of that.
Start taking those off my bill, my cable bill will
shrink immediately because ESPN is pretty expensive on a monthly

(16:39):
basis if you do the per the cost per household.
And that's what this is all the big fight about,
because how much more live programming takes rather than running
another reality show.

Speaker 1 (16:52):
Exit about a Fresca Exit Swollen Dum Jason Smith's show

Speaker 1 (18:46):
Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon. Hello, now, just really quick, I want you
to think about something. Yeah, mass hysteria, Just just to
hold onto your seat. What if both Florida and Flora
to state stink? I mean you think of what that's
a good thing? Is gonna be a playoff team? Stink.
What if they both stink? What do you think of

(19:08):
the Jaguars? What if the Dolphins fail? Oh, everybody, please
remain calm. What if it's called the U is left
standing tall? At the end of a long football season?
All right now? Twenty eight to thirteen, Boston College with
the lead over Florida State, twelve minutes to go in
the fourth quarter. All have more on this coming up

(19:30):
in a few minutes. But joining us down the hot
lot for all the latest news in the NFL Odyssey
one O five seven the Fan in Baltimore, Washington Post
NFL insider Jason lock and For. You can find him
on Twitter at Jason lock and For. He has fifteen
thousand words coming tomorrow on the first start of Kyle
McCord for Syracuse. Looking forward to that, JAYI, I can't wait.

(19:50):
Hopefully I'm quoted warmly and accurately by your.

Speaker 4 (19:53):
Wish is my command. Let me squeeze that in. I'll
get on that. I'll get on that tonight, all right.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
So if you can do that, then tell me this
is Jamar Chase gonna play. All we saw tonight was hey,
maybe not now the big back pedal by the Bengals.
Oh maybe he's not going to play Week one.

Speaker 4 (20:11):
Well, I don't know, but I can tell you this.
We were at my niece's wedding in upstate, New York
last night and we were driving back to the Airbnb
and my middle child was doing a fantasy football draft
and he had the sixth pick and I'm like, because
I was a little worried because we're going to be
in the car and it's bad sell and I'm like,

(20:32):
who do they have you getting on the auto draft?
And they're like Jamar Chase and I'm like, ooh, I
hope to make this pick. I just don't know that
we need to take him that high. And there's a
little bit of variant here. And we were in the
dead zone for like eight miles and he got stuck
with Jamar Chase.

Speaker 1 (20:51):
Oh no, you didn't pull over the car. You should
have pulled over until he made a pick.

Speaker 4 (20:56):
There's no, no, no. We're in the middle of nowhere,
like we're in a one like we're in a series
of one stop light down Like yeah, it's not like
you just you know, hit the seven eleven and log
in real quick, like there, you know, you're knocking on
a farmer's door, like, how's your WiFi? So yeah, yeah,
this is so am I convinced he's playing in this game?

(21:19):
I'm not. I would have thought that Mike Brown would
have sort of come to his senses on this one
and just realize he's got to pay what he's got
to pay in the same way that you know he
did with with Joe Burrow. And maybe he gets there
in the next forty eight hours. And it's not like
Jamar Chase has been you know, on a beach somewhere

(21:41):
for eight weeks, so I wouldn't rule it out. But
I think we're also getting a little bit late in
the game. And look, it is the New England Patriots.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
This is a.

Speaker 4 (21:53):
Team that's got its eyes on February and not you know, September.
This is a team that, like, let's face it, has
has looked bad in a lot of Septembers before, right
and still gotten to the promised Land or close to it.
So I'm not sure, guys, I'm not convinced it does

(22:17):
get done, to be honest with you, in time for
this football game.

Speaker 1 (22:21):
Now we got that it is the Patriot, so hang
a star with that. But also I feel I feel
bad for Zach Taylor to a degree, keep going back
in front of a microphone within complete information and trying
to make the best of it.

Speaker 4 (22:34):
It's tough, and this is all on the owner, like
this is going to be, you know, Mike Brown wants
to pay the thirty six million or whatever it turns
out to be and makes you know, this players sort
of whole or I do think he'll be pretty stuck
in and set out. I mean again, we're talking about
a pro rated one million dollars here, you know, for

(22:56):
the most part, and he's going to get that back eventually.
It does get a little phonier when it gets into
the season. It's a little different than missing preseason games.
But still, I don't think there's anybody in that organization
who thinks they're winning the Super Bowl this year without
Jamar Chase being a major contributor to it.

Speaker 1 (23:16):
Jason Locking for our guest, the Jason smithser with Mike
Carmon live from the Tirack dot Com studios. All right, now,
probably the last bit of drama before you actually see
him take a snap. Russell Wilson is voted a Steelers captain.
Can you still be a captain if you're the backup,
like I want to know, like, and is it like
the week four, Week five, is that still going to
be the case?

Speaker 4 (23:35):
Yeah? I don't think do we ever remember, you know
what I mean, like who actually was the captain of
a team in any like any giving year. Like it's
a story about certain guys like Callum Williams, you know
gets it and it's like, oh, okay, that's pretty cool.
But like I don't know that this ever really registers
or you know, it matters. I think we know who
the leaders of these teams are by to for the

(23:56):
most part, and they certainly themselves right inside the locker
room that there's no secrets. So no, do I think
that it's it's week six, Week four, Week five, and
this looks like a pathetic pedestrian little you know, three
yards and a cloud of dust passing game and they're

(24:18):
scoring seventeen points a game. Do I think that's going
to prevent justin Fields from getting, you know, becoming more
and more and more a part of this and eventually
taking over. No, I don't. People I talked to around
the league are pretty convinced that it won't. No, They're
going to go this route now because it's a little

(24:39):
safer and Russ has the profile, Russ has the resume,
and look Russ did, was it twenty six touchdowns to
eight picks last year? Russ, he'll be he'll protect the
football to a fault. But it stands the reason that
they're going to reach a point pretty soon here where
they're going to want somebody with a little more of
a ceiling and somebody who can electrify their run game

(25:00):
a little more and just make them more difficult to defend.

Speaker 1 (25:04):
It would be cool, though, if they had a ceremony
to depose him and take the cea off his chest.

Speaker 4 (25:09):
Like he gets fully blocked.

Speaker 1 (25:11):
Yeah, he lines up with the entire team, Tomin just
yankes it off his chest, walks down and hands the
roof or something. Yeah, there you go, a new, a
new wrinkle hard knocks next year. Uh.

Speaker 3 (25:24):
Now, going back, we talked mentioned the Patriots in passing.
Let's go to another contract situation that's hanging out there,
and that's Trent Williams.

Speaker 1 (25:33):
Is the forty nine ers get ready to face the Jets.
How many times does Brock Purdy have to get hit
before a cell phone docu sign fax machine, whatever happens
for Trent Williams.

Speaker 4 (25:46):
Look, I can't fathom there's any body on the planet
who knows inherently how important Trent Williams is to that
offense anymore more than like Kyl Shanahan himself. Like, I

(26:06):
just don't know that, like anyone could have a better
understanding of like their you know, their EPA with this
left tackle and without this left tackle. I just don't
think that, Like it's untenable. And I mean, could they
do this for a week or two? I mean maybe,

(26:29):
but it's not a great offensive line with him. He
is a singular force force of nature, fast protection, run blocking,
everything like its just I think it crumbles, and I
think he crumbles pretty quickly. And I think Kyle Shanahan

(26:50):
knows that. And this is one where I think, if
it really was up to Kyle Shanahan, like Trent Williams
would get every penny he possibly could get and then
everything else will fall in line. But you know, this
is an ownership thing, This is a progmat thing. But man,
I I don't think this one could go very far. Guys.

(27:11):
I just don't think they're going to try to play
more than a game or two tops without Trent Williams
and maybe maybe it's it's more like one.

Speaker 1 (27:22):
All right, Jay, last last time we get to talk
to you before the season begins on Thursday. Who you're
thinking for the Super Bowl right now? The Jets, and.

Speaker 2 (27:30):
Who you'll slip that time I did?

Speaker 1 (27:35):
I tried to throw one.

Speaker 4 (27:36):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I haven't actually like made to pick
a document and a pick anywhere. But I do find
myself leaning into Kansas City continuing to make history here,
and I just can't bet against them. I can't pick
against him. I do think they're the cream of the crop.

(27:57):
And I think you don't have to go on to
far of a limb to see them having even a
better regular season than a year ago and getting that
one seed back, and you know, somebody going to Arrowhead
and doing what only one team's done to this point,
the Bengals. Like I just don't know how tenable that
is in the NFC. The Rams, you know, Like I

(28:21):
kind of have a little bit of a vibe about
the Rams. It would not shock me if the Rams
or the Packers went. I kind of think the Packers
is my chalkier pick, But I could see the Rams
getting there I'm.

Speaker 1 (28:35):
With you, man. I love the Rams. I love the
Rams this year. I love because I'm confident that McVeigh. Look,
it's a different defense and no, Aaron Donald, sure, but
when has Sean mcvain not made the right moves? I mean,
what is time ago? Boy? Hey, that was awful. Now
he always seems to make the right move. That's it's
a phenomenally run organization.

Speaker 2 (28:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (28:55):
No, I think they're going to win that division. I
really do. And I think it's I could see him,
you know, McVeigh lafloor, you know, NFC Championship game.

Speaker 1 (29:06):
He's on Twitter at Jason locking For. That is at
Jason locking For again. Now it's up to thirty thousand
words on the debut of Kyle McCord for Syracuse. Jay
is always buddy, appreciate it man. We'll talk for you
buddy next week. Yes, her great stuff from Jason locking
For as always. He's got the.

Speaker 3 (29:22):
Chiefs running, and I mean the the only question is,
I mean, how's that going over in Baltimore where he broadcast?
Yeahs week one, Raven's new a little new look in
wrinkles to the offense. But I think we all agree,
you know, if you had your shot at Kansas City
last year. Was the obvious opportunity, right offense kind of clunky,

(29:43):
but the defense carried the day.

Speaker 1 (29:45):
But as they say, that's why they play the games.
Two hundred and seventy two. Now we'll we'll, we'll get
to that. But I got to ask you something off
the locker for seriously, buddy, I'm being serious. Look me
out here. Okay, Caleb Williams is a Bears captain. Dude,
you have eight captains. You named eight captains.

Speaker 6 (30:02):
An optimistic every every sixth guy on your roster is
a captain. Yeah, come on, man, it's great optimism. Come
on each function. Everybody's a cap He's a guy that said, hey,
everybody's a captain.

Speaker 3 (30:16):
Well, in the end, the captains, eight captains, it will
become a party planning committee. Eight captain and one guy
will eventually just say I'm the real captain.

Speaker 1 (30:27):
Now you have an offensive captain, you have a defensive captain,
you have a special team's captain. That's it. But now
there's five other ones. This is this is like the
college football playoff. Usually we've had three. No, no, let's make
it eight.

Speaker 3 (30:37):
Now eight, As loking Forth said, other than he It's
never been done by the Bears before.

Speaker 1 (30:44):
Who cares. I don't like that answer from this captain.
I'm gonna go talk to this captain. I don't all
gonna go talk to this cat talking to you. You're
you're not a captain. I got this guy. We're talking
about this guy. Letks tell you Something's my prerogatives, what
I want to do. I don't like your answer, Captain.
I'm going to another captain. Is there a higherarchy of capital?
But that's what you do. There's the lowest right captain,
the highest right captain.

Speaker 3 (31:04):
Yes, the ride that's got the highest contract captain of captain, captain,
my captain.

Speaker 1 (31:13):
Oh that's not the last time we're going to talk
about this tonight, but right now a guy who actually
was voted captain ay of his high school debate team
and the chess team. And Steve de Sager with what's trending?
You get a captain and you get a captain. I
looked it up.

Speaker 7 (31:31):
Apparently the Raiders had nine captains last year.

Speaker 1 (31:34):
I was compared when you had a war captains than wins.

Speaker 7 (31:36):
Yeah, EXACU.

Speaker 1 (31:38):
The captains and quarterback things. If you have too many
of them, you got nothing.

Speaker 7 (31:42):
Speaking of not many wins, Florida State is playing right now.
They were preseason number ten. That shows you what those
preseason bowls mean. They could be starting this season oh
and two. Going back to nineteen seventy six, Florida State
has only started a season oh and two twice here
in nearly fifty year. They lost their season opener, recently

(32:02):
in Dublin on a last second field goal by Georgia Tech,
which on the ground ran up and down against him.
Right now, Boston College has nearly two hundred yards rushing
at Florida State, and BC leads twenty eight to thirteen
with under seven minutes to go. The Seminoles on the
ground sixteen carries twenty one yards. FSU on its home
turf was down twenty one to six early third quarter

(32:24):
twenty eight thirteen Eagles Now a reminder. This Saturday on
Fox TV Texas at Michigan noon Eastern time, Bengals wide
receiver Jamar Chase missed practice again, wanting a new contract.
Cincinnati opens its NFL season this Sunday at home against
New England. Chase attended practice in street clothes today. He's
only had three years in the league its three Pro

(32:45):
Bowl selections, and last season he had one hundred receptions
forty nine Ers first round wide receiver Ricky Pearsall will
miss at least a month. He was placed on the
Non football injury list. Pearsall got out of the hospital
yesterday after being shot Saturday and a robbery attempt in
San Francisco. It was called an attempted theft of a watch,
and the teenager who shot him was arrested. Pearsall played

(33:06):
at Florida and Arizona State. His mom said the bullet
entered his chest and exited out his back and he
was able to walk to the ambulance. Over the weekend,
Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards Hilaire was placed on the
NFI list as well to Major League Baseball. The late
game has the Yankees leading eight to three in the
ninth at Texas. This is the last game of the night.

(33:27):
The Mets have won their fifth in a row, four
to one over Boston. Oakland homered solo shot bottom of
the ninth to beat Seattle five to four. Houston's five
game winning streak ended today the loss to Justin Verlander
in Cincinnati Reds five to three. The final Pittsburgh ended
the Cubs six game winning streak, five to three victories
for the Dodgers and padres for Cleveland and Minnesota. Milwaukee

(33:50):
over Saint Louis nine to three. Today Willie Adamis homer
in a fifth straight game now was a three run
shot in the first inning, his twenty ninth of the year,
and Baltimore the White Sox to an eleventh straight loss
thirteen to three. The White Sox just had their first
oh to ten homestand in team history, and that was
the White Sox third ten game losing streak this year.

(34:12):
After today, the record is just their third, just their third,
you say, all right? After today, the record is thirty
one and one oh eight. Back to you two sweep.

Speaker 1 (34:22):
You have to go over five hundred the rest of
the year to not be the worst team in the
midstustry like you may. This may not even be close,
like you may just blow pass.

Speaker 7 (34:31):
The record is one hundred and twenty losses and the
expansion Mets. The great stat that I heard yesterday, the
White Sox could play from now till about Thanksgiving and
go seventy five and oh and still be under the
five hundred mark.

Speaker 1 (34:45):
Sure, good times. Wow, there we go, make you Steve.
I mean, I don't think Harmon's much want to thank you.
Know what, though, they had that campfire milkshake baby that
keeps breaking into the eye. Let's go. Uh, coming up
the Access, we'll have more on the game. Right now.
Florida State still trailing Boston College and boy, I'm really
worried for that fan. But coming up next, we great

(35:09):
and tell you the big takeaway from the first big
meltdown of the football season. The first big coaches meltdown
has happened. We got it next right here, Jason and
Mike Fox.

Speaker 2 (35:21):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (35:32):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon.
I think the theme of the night is eclectic one
hit wonders here on the show. I gotta dig that. Yeah. Uh,
I'll tell you what. Week one of college football and
I always feel bad because Week one of college football
is treated with so much attention, it's so great, and
then the NFL starts like yeah, yeah, when we got tea.

(35:53):
We'll get to you, all right, We got to That's
all right, We got the week one. But let me
tell you the team that after. Even I know it's
one game and I realized potentially on being prisoner of
the moment, but there are so many things that I
liked about what they did. I am in on them
as a playoff team. Okay, partially because of what they do,

(36:15):
partially because I think it's going to be a bit
of a down year in their conference. But I am
in on USC as a playoff team. Look at you,
which just sounds crazy, right. They lose Caleb Williams. They're
replacing him at Lincoln Riley. Have not been smooth. He's
fought with reporters. It's not been great. Potentially another bad season.

(36:37):
They're buying out Lincoln Riley. At least tell them you
can't find the private you know, the plane anymore. But
that game last night against LSU, the three things that
jumped out at me was that USC number one is
a better defensive team than they've been in the last
Not great because still LSU was able to move the
football on them, but they are much better. They ackled better.

(37:01):
They you know, they were able to pressure Ben don't
exactly they were able to make make Lsu have to
extend drives and and make very timely plays. So I
was really impressed with how well they played defensive. Again,
they rolled up a lot. They didn't let them run
the football, and that was a big thing, was we're
gonna run the ball. We had run the foot That
was like whoa, that was a big thing. You couldn't

(37:21):
run the football.

Speaker 3 (37:24):
And there was a lot of chatter and that was
actually my daughter had a soccer tournament this weekend and
one of the conversations we were having before kickoff, they
were trying to figure out where they were gonna watch
it and everything else. Hopefully they found some place that
didn't have direct TV so they were able to actually wait,
sorry to find a place down the street. But they
were all excited, you know, talking about going to some

(37:44):
events and just talking to the strength coach and all
the breakdown of what they did, how much muscle these
guys all put on in weight, they put on to
forti five getting ready for Big ten play, and it
showed up in week one.

Speaker 1 (37:56):
They're gonna be a big problem because it's going to
be a bit of a down year in the ten right,
Like Michigan doesn't look like they're gonna be what they
were last year. They don't look like there'd be anything
close to last year. You got questions about Iowa. Sure, yes,
Ohio States is the big gun in the conference, but
USC showing that they can get past the Caleb Williams era.
And now you're in the Miller Moss era. And he

(38:19):
was so impressive last night. We saw him in the
bowl game and you started thinking, Okay, maybe USC isn't
completely screwed with Caleb Williams going, because boy was he good.
Great decisions, He's accurate, and he's calm. He is calm
under pressure. He delivers the football well, there was no
point where I saw him of any kind of happy feet.

(38:40):
He stayed in the pocket, he was able to throw
the ball in the tight windows. Like Miller Moss is legit.
He is absolutely legit. And Kyen Hudson is just freaking
uber talented. Like you're talking about who's the next great receipt,
it's Kyen Hudson. A couple of those catches he made,
but the you know, obviously he made the big one
handed one of the oh my goodness, but that catch

(39:01):
that he made that set up the game winning field
goal when he is between two guys knowing he's going
to get drilled, and the ball is out in front
of him and he's able to reach out with one
hand and pull it in and hold on to it
after a helmet to helmet hit like that. What a
stud play that was. And he gets up and he
and he a good, good thing. He was okay, And
they made the right call, unlike how they missed it

(39:22):
in the Colorado game, but they made the right call.
Moving up fifteen yards was a targeting play. But seeing
how USC navigated the end of that game. And yes,
they usually do start well and Lincoln Riley's teams start well,
but this had a different feel. This had a we
are a much better team than the last couple of
years where it's been, hey, we're just gonna try to
score fifty points a game and if we win fifty

(39:45):
to forty eight, that's fine. They still have the talent
on offense, and I can't again, I can't tell you impressed.
I was with Moss and is slowing the game down
under pressure, But you see the talent, the talent of
Hudson and the defense like this is a different team.

Speaker 3 (40:01):
No, just the physicality of it from the defensive side.
I'm going to stay in the Big Ten and a team.
When we were making notes last week and we're talking
about surprise playoff teams, I actually circled Nebraska staying in
the Big Ten. Now it's going to take Scott Frost
is never going to send you a Christmas card. Now
you're picking them. He is never going to send you Christmas.

Speaker 1 (40:18):
I sent him home.

Speaker 3 (40:20):
Remember he got fired after losing to Northwestern. But you
look at the game this week, Rayola looks the part.
They put up a big point total, obviously a huge
matchup this week. You mentioned Colorado briefly talking about I
have no doubt after that game and that mistargeting call
that every officiating crew got a notice saying you throw

(40:42):
the flag and we will review it as opposed to No,
maybe not, but yeah, tough road for them along the
way because they will have to go to Ohio State
and you do have dates with USC your squad and
IOWA in the final month of the season. That's where
it gets interesting. Uh Ohio State and then u C
l A. You know they're in Los Angeles. That game

(41:05):
in Nebraska at USC in the middle of November. And
then uh, they've got Wisconsin, who doesn't look like the
usual Wisconsin, but you never count them out.

Speaker 1 (41:16):
They could. They could muddy up a game just as
well as anybody.

Speaker 4 (41:19):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (41:19):
And then finally at Iowa to finish the season. And
they're a team that I considered because the offense has
to be better than it's been. Right, and it was good,
right and good well they had.

Speaker 1 (41:30):
They had three touchdown catches from wide receivers in their
opening game and they had two all of last and
all it took was Kirk Ferrince to be suspended for
the game. You know, I like I well, I just
they're interesting overall what USC was able to do. And
here they are in a new, new, new season, and
no one's familiar with them. You're all, you don't know
them year to year like the Big ten schools know

(41:51):
each other. I'm in on USC men. It's excited to
see physicality on the defense. It's the thing we've been
clamoring on watching this team for years. Exit out by
the Fresco Exit Swollen Dome. Coming up next, we get
back into a big story out of football. Keep it
right here Jason and Mike Fox
