(00:52):
how about those Rockies getting You're fine, everything's fine so far.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
So far, swinging a long one, so far.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Go to the bottom of the eighth up six too
over the Diamondbacks far Look at you? Keep my fingers crossed, buddy,
that's all. I'm getting a little twitchy. All start to
look like Shane Waldrop calling place for the Bears. I'm
just drinking. Yeah, I'm just trying with his call sheet.
Someone go steady the man's hand. He's reading the numbers wrong.
I'm really nervous that we're just gonna get my quarterback sacked. Hey,
(01:22):
let's block everybody, guys, because I get to add the
extra theory. He's calling out the wrong assignments for his
offensive line. How about that it's not just that they're
terrible on the right side, on the left side. How
about like we've had some big NFL talk the first
hour of the show. We we've gotten into the situation
with two We've talked about the Steelers Bryce Young. How
(01:45):
about a nice, big fat Kansasity Chiefs hot take. Let's
go how about a big fat hot take and not
that yet look and not the one we talked about
a week or so ago, and that Hey, maybe Patrick
Mahomes isn't the guy that you want to make sure
you get a quarterback in your fantasy team, because wow,
has he been just a guy for over a year now.
But well, I don't know that you want a draft quarterbacks.
(02:06):
You might be drafting kickers earlier. Everybody bombing in fifty
change in the NFL, taking Boswell number one overall. I mean,
the guy's kicking three. He's averaging four field goals in
the league so far. But I mean, look at this,
nine field goals in the first two games. Through two weeks,
we've had thirty five fifty plus yard field goals made.
(02:27):
You know, Justin Tucker seems to be the only guy
that can't make him anymore then that used to be
his bread and butter man. That would be a throwback
NFL fantasy league. Follow me on this, right for people
who came up on because we got big fat Chiefs
hot to come in, but just for people like, oh,
you know I love fantasy football. You know I want
to get involved in fantasy football, but you know, I
(02:48):
don't know. I'm kind of an old school guy. Okay,
here's my new fantasy league for you. It's running backs, fullbacks, kicker,
and defense. That's the entire Know what I tried to
do that your offense. When I was at Yahoo, I
had the point point totals devised perfectly so it didn't
overrun you like people do idp leagues, and all of
(03:11):
a sudden you got backers scored ninety seven points in
a game.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
No.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
No, I had the punters, the coffin corner kicks right
inside the five, and because we don't do that anymore
either though, everything straight up and then you run on them.
It's like strue that people like you for about angular kicking,
but people who grew up on a certain era of football,
you want it because my dad. I think about this
my dad, because my dad is doing fantasy now for
the third year in a row. He's very excited about
(03:34):
doing it.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
The guys out in Syracuse study works. No, everybody here,
he doesn't. Everybody here?
Speaker 1 (03:38):
Yeah, yeah, I tell him, Dad. When people call you
for a trade, they're not your friends. Why are we
getting together to watch when the Yankees are over? That's
that's when. But if you had a fantas if you
have somebody all the all this points and all this
touchdowns and all the quarterbacks. Now here's your fantasy league.
Every team starts two running backs, a fullback. That's to
(04:00):
full back. Half started fall. You gotta start a full back,
gotta starts, gonna have an empty slot. No no, no,
you're not don cloning check today doesn't matter. You gotta
start a full back. Two running backs. Tony Richardson is
not walking through that door.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
A full back.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
Rathman is not walking through that door. Two running backs,
a full back, two tight ends, two kickers, and a defense.
That's your fantasy We're doubling up on kick. That's what
it is. That That that's you. That's your old school fantasy. Hey,
back in the sixties and seventies when everybody just ran
the football and the forward pass was illegal and people
died from it. I mean this is you know, yeah,
(04:39):
it took a dark tur right, this is like, oh,
they ran the ball and he went full on. Yeah,
the fullward pass was illegal. Smith, isn't people that h No?
But that there there's your fantasy league. Two running backs,
a full back, and if you don't have one, can't
play one. Right, Two running backs, a full back, two
tight ends, two kickers, and a defense. There's your fanantasy
(05:00):
league right there. You like what it's called osf L
Old school fantasy league. Oh SFL. There you go. I
kind of dig this. At one point we also I
no quarterbacks, no quarterbacks, wide receivers, wide receive. It was
short lived, but they actually devised a scoring system for
offensive lines based on the production of the offense. And
(05:20):
you know, whoever was assigning pancake blocks for that particular game. Hey,
you wanted to make Orlando pace the legend that he was.
What do you want? Just think about that league. That's
what was a score? Oh I blew him out this week?
What was a score? Thirty two to eighteen? I'd be no,
I've told him this week. And non PPR, of course,
non PPR. Half the league has guys that they're just
(05:42):
hoping get picked up because someone gets hurt. It's not
even a backup. He's in your starting line. It's like,
I don't know. I say, they run the ball lot
and I just hoping that that guy stoves the stone.
I started Jeremy Rukert this week and Rogers to a
passed to him in the end zone. I was so
close to it touch that.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
And now we're arguing about tight ends being available.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
As full bags. Oh yeah, Taysom Hill, what a great
pick he would be sure. Now how about that Chief's
hot take? Okay, here's the Chiefs hot take that all
revolves around this play from Sunday.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
Twenty five, twenty three.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Cincinnati placement is down, Butcker's kick leg through it is
high enough and it is good.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
Kansas City Parrison Bucker another clutch kick against the Bengals
and the Chiefs win it.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
That's a buzzer.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
Chiefs Radio network on the call, and this is your
hot take. There is real concern right now, and you
can't carve it up anyway about the Chiefs and their
offense because this play, this decision, this possession they had
at the end of the game, tells you everything that
(06:55):
Andy Reid thinks about his offense. All right, Patrick Mahomes
has been the best quarter back in the league for
the last seven eight years. And after the pass interference
call right on the big fourth and sixteen pass, which
is pass interference. You could not like it, but it
was past interference. This gives the Chiefs the ball on
the Cincinnati thirty six yard line, first and ten thirty
(07:17):
eight seconds left to go. So you're fifty three yards
away from a field goal, which Bucker can make because
Bucker is one of the best kickers in the league.
But still fifty three yards that's a long way to kick, right.
You want it, You want to You want to get
closer hip shot. See if you can get ten yards.
You have time, give him opportunity. Thirty eight seconds is
an eternity. You have all your timeouts left. You have
thirty that's the You have thirty eight seconds and you
(07:39):
have all your timeouts left. You can run any plays
you want to. What do the Chiefs do. Mahomesolls an
incomplete pass short left, They run Carson Steel for two yards,
They call a timeout, They run Carson Steel right for
two yards, then they call their second time out. Bucker
comes in and kicks the field goal from fifty one yards. Okay.
(07:59):
The chief Beefs decided that taking the ball out of
Patrick Mahomes's hands and saying Harrison, Butker can kick it
from here, that was their preferential thing to do. Not
Mahomes get the ball down deep and try to win. No, no, no,
it was Let's let our field goal kicker kick from
fifty one yards and the Chiefs can try to cover
(08:20):
it up by saying, well, this just shows you the
confidence we have in our kicker. No, no, no. You
have Patrick Pleep and Mahomes playing quarterback. But Daniel Jones,
okay he's not. He's not the guy playing. You're not
playing Deshaun Watson. Where Hey, we don't want to screw
anything up. You have the best quarterback.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
In the league.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
Supposedly, and your best plays were on second and third
down was a run from a twenty one year old
rookie that had lost a fumble and gained two yards
and two yards. You can't throw the ball with Mahomes
to try to make it just a little bit more
makeable of a kick, try to get it to make
it up be a forty yard field goal, something a
little bit easier. You decided you were okay with kicking
it from fifty one yards. When I'm watching this Sunday,
(08:59):
I'm saying it would serve the Chief's right to lose
this game to play for this field goal. To explain,
because but it worked out for them, right, Just like
the whole Chiefs as an organization, all their their faults
are are kind of glossed over by the fact that, Hey,
Mahomes is a great guy. Everybody likes him, Travis Kellis
is a great Guy's dating Taylor Swift. Everybody likes him.
(09:21):
But this is this is problems, man. The Chiefs have
problems when they can't trust Mahomes to try to gain
another ten yards for a field goal. I'm not saying
you had to get it all the way down there,
but you had all your time out, you could throw
the ball anywhere you want to on the field, and
we're running the ball twice. Whoa, whoa, whoa? What is this?
This tells you that not only has Mahomes taken a
step back from being the great fantasy quarterback that he was.
(09:44):
Where the offense is right now, what do they trust
him to do?
Speaker 4 (09:47):
Right?
Speaker 1 (09:47):
He already he's already looking at one of the worst
games he's ever had as a pro against the Bengals
on Sunday, And it's part of as it's part of
a downturn from him. That's a better part of a
year right now. I mean Mahomes, He's threw for one
hundred and fifty the yards man, threw a couple of touchdoups,
that threw a couple of picks. The quarterback rating was
below average, and and Andy Reid said, I want to
(10:07):
run the ball twice and let our and let our
kicker kick it from fifty one yards. No, they are
trying to cover up issues they have offensively. Now, whether
it's a Mahomes thing, whether it's a receivers thing, but
they have issues offensively. You got on that was a
crying out moment. On Sunday. I think you have a
little bit of everything, and the curiosity of going to
the run is you lose your number one running back, right,
(10:29):
you lose Pacheco to the broken leg, and you still
want to put the ball in. Carson steals and a
great story gets his opportunity. Obviously when waivers clear for
fantasy purposes, everybody jumping on board there. You heard the
report as mart Weiss gave us from the news desk,
Kareem Hunt coming back in with the squad to give
(10:50):
them some depth and maybe see him activated down the line.
But certainly from the offensive line perspective, we know that
Travis Kelcey right him back into shape and that it's
all about January right when it comes time for him,
because he had a slow season for much of last year.
Still near a thousand yards, but not the explosiveness and
(11:12):
the dominance that you'd become accustomed to. And for Patrick Mahomes,
same thing is that balance and it's been riding the defense.
Really it's the exact opposite. It's the you know, as
he chases the goat. It's really the mirror image of
everything Tom Brady did right where early on in his career,
you didn't have a lot of offensive numbers. You had
a lot of games that look like this, one fifty
(11:33):
to two hundred, maybe a touchdown pass or two, maybe
a pick, but nothing exorbitant, not winging the ball all around,
relying on the run game and defense to get you over.
And then once Randy Moss came and in the years
after we had the explosion of offenses, the rule changes
and in the defensive secondaries what you could and couldn't
do in terms of rag dolling a quarterback and everything else.
(11:57):
That suddenly his offensive numbers went at the through the roof.
Whereas for Patrick Mahomes, that's what it was for a
couple of years. Tyreek Hill, let's light it up, and
it all became a let's blow teams out, but we
may need to blow you know, put up massive point
totals because our defense isn't there. And now we've seen
that flipped right. Last year they relied on the defense.
(12:18):
Everybody jumped off off the ship and I was like,
all right, get me to January. If it's if it
doesn't click in January, we can talk about it going low.
And behold, there they go. They win another Super Bowl.
So I'm kind of on the same boat right now.
It's like September is the feeling out process. Seems like
they're really emulating everything Belichick and the Patriots organization. Dude,
I mean really at this point, Mahomes and the offense,
(12:40):
they're just enough to win type guys. This is not
part of their dominance and the Chiefs. This is they're
doing just enough to win. They're covering up the ills.
They really apathetically polase and they're back to week one.
Look no, look, but there's still there's still the team
being able to winning championships how they do and building
that winning culture that gets you through times like this. Right,
(13:01):
So that's a great that's a great thing because no, no,
not every team could do something like this where suddenly,
oh hey, yeah, we can just start covering up our
ills by by doing barely enough. No, this is this
is the championship mentality and the winning of philosophy that
Andy Reid has that has built in and that Mahomes
has been executing and Kelsey for the most part, has
been executing. But Kelsey's not the same. Mahomes is not
(13:22):
the same. Up and down the field. The offense is
not the same. And it's over a year now and
now they've gone from we're blowing out thirty five twenty
every week, good luck trying to keep up with us.
And maybe in the playoffs there's a game or there's
a game where maybe a defensive game plan makes it
hard on us, but by and large, you do what
we want to to. Now it's almost every week is
a wow. They just it enough, and it eventually that
(13:45):
the end of that bottom of that sock comes up
empty with with what they're doing. So you just try
to pulling out a scar. They're trying to pull magic
out of the bottom of that sock, and and it's
an eventually that comes up. Then we could come up.
And then really, but I'll tell you a dirty little
secret about the first two weeks of the NFL. As
(14:07):
much as I love football and we celebrate the two
seventy two and we've got thirty two in the book,
there's been a lot of bad football, right, and there's
a lot of teams that haven't gone crazy. I've been
yard passers. Last week we're under I mean, was it
eighteen fewer touchdown passes than a year ago, which is
what forty fewer than it was five years ago. But
(14:30):
this is Mahomes, I know, but it's Mahomes. I'm not
I'm not asking Russell Wilson. I'm not asking Justin Field.
You have to do that one?
Speaker 2 (14:38):
Did you drive? Russ?
Speaker 1 (14:39):
Poor guy can't even get on the field. And that's
the first name that crosses your What are you doing?
He didn't deserve that, not him a letter of apology.
Tare you? I'm not asking Justin Herbert Bryce Young asking
Daniel Jones. I'm not in the second time I brought
up Daniel Jones. Yah, but they scored three touchdowns, but
(14:59):
this they just couldn't kick. They are they are doing
just enough to win and and and teams are gonna
catch up to that fast and I and look, it's
been well over a year. You're talking about the entirety
of last year. Yes, and they win the Super Bowl,
which is awesome, but eventually dynasty's end. Right. We saw
with the Warriors, we saw it everywhere and the way
this first couple of weeks ago, and it's wow, they're
(15:20):
just doing It's gonna be a grind enough to escape.
And it's a grind. I mean, that's You're right, it's
but fortunately they do have one of those super toe kickers.
Whether you like him or not, Harrison, Butker is a
guy that can win you games.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
No, it is.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
And look, and that's how you hide it by saying
we trust our kicker more than anybody. Yeah, just stop.
It's fifty one yard field. You don't trust your quote,
You don't trust Patrick Mahomes. That's why this is such
a huge But it's Hey, we're showing you where we're
at moment. We can't trust Mahomes to try to get
us closer for a game winning field goal. Well, you
may not trust your your line holding up, you may
not trust the receivers he's thrown. To go back to
(15:56):
week one, what was Xavier Worthies big play safety got
and just looked and pointed to a general area that's
not covering the area. Okay, you're not the emperor where
he could strike him with a laser to take him down.
So you know, yeah, it's to say it to work
in progress would be kind. But here's the beauty of it.
(16:16):
If they're they're two and zero, and you know that's
it's a lot of ills because it's not what we're
accustomed to and the dominance and level of greatness on
that offensive side. But I tell you what, Andy Reid's
eating that cheeseburger feeling a hell of a lot better
than Zach Taylor or John Harbaugh or any of these
other guys, right, I mean, tell me you don't have
(16:37):
your pop going already ready for Harbaugh and the and
the Cowboys this week when we get Cowboys Ravens, come
on now, exit out about a Fresca exit swollen dome.

Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon live from Thetireck dot Com Studios.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
Now, before we look back.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
At week two going into week three, before we play
week two, I hate to say I told you so.
H let me ask you this.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
We're getting into that already.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
I'm gonna hit you right between the eyes on this me.
What do you think Chargers fans love more? Right now?
Jim Harbaugh or the schedule maker? Who do they love more?
Schedule maker? Schedule making to be schedule making? I mean, look,
I think Brandon Stalley might have won these last couple
of games.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
No, but that might have been closer.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
But I think they win the last I mean, there
might have been a couple of decisions in the course
of the game where we would have all been inching
up in our seats to say, what's he going to do?
Speaker 2 (19:18):
Keep the camera on Staley, keep the Cameron Stanley.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
And obviously there's a love affair with Jim Harbaugh here
and lots of billboards up and down the highways. I
mean you and I in between all of the lawyers,
right that'll help you out if you're in a motorcycle
accident or your uber gets hit or there's plenty of
those guys. But it became an you know every other
with a picture of either Justin Herbert or Jim Harbaugh
(19:42):
for a while here on the four h five in
southern California. And he's quirky. He's full of quotes and
story time. The fact, you know, last week we were
talking about the you know him actually figuring out what
kind of Jim shoes Justin Herbert wears so he could
walk around in the same gym sho It's an interesting
cat man. So like you can, you can get a
(20:04):
lot of little Hey, last segment of the news, instead
of doing something about us, you know, water skiing squirrel,
it's like, here's another harballism. And look at this dog
that jumped into the lake right here after the fourth
of July fireworks. Look at that boys swims right out
there to get that tennis ball. We'll see you tomorrow, everybody,
enjoy your commutter work. Now it's Jim Harborism's right Mondays
(20:25):
with Horrorball. Don't you gonna give us Tuesdays with morey
Mondays with harbor again? And then we'll figure out on Wednesday,
which we were trying to do with the odd couple. Yeah,
and Rob, you know what what's Wednesday become?
Speaker 4 (20:37):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (20:38):
Now NFL week to eight? To say, I told you
something coming off of week one? What do we tell you?
You just love that? Right? I just like it's week two? No, listen,
it's week two. You've already got the handg the D
shirt and gun or the giant flamethrower because you're ready
(20:59):
to have a squad. No, no, no, I said, Look
what did we say? What did I tell you? After
week one? I was really not thrilled with how the
Ravens dealt with their loss to the Chiefs. Couldn't admit
that they lost. They felt they were still robbed of
a touchdown, even though Isaiah likely was out of bounds
on the final play. I'm sorry that it was really close.
(21:21):
It was really close. I feel like the Winklevi twins
in Social Network. Could he tell us how close of
a RaSE it was? Again? Did he tell us how
close of a race? It was Yeah, I'm sorry, it
was close, but he was out of bounds. But they
I felt that they couldn't really reconcile themselves with the
fact they lost that game. Isaiah likely saying at the
end of day, if that's the best day got, we'll
see them in the postseason. Like, guys, you have to
(21:43):
understand you lost this game and move on, because if
you can't, then this is going to wind up snowballing.
What happens on Sunday They blow a lead to the
bleeping Raiders.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
Who ran the ball.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
I think the Raiders ran the ball four times the
entire day, and Marcus Allen had three of the attempts
and they still lost. It's a gardener bleep in minshew
at home. They still love how does that have? This
is a team that's not focused And sometimes I told
you those if you lose a bad game week one,
that can stay with festers and that can ruin an
(22:14):
entire season. And I'm seeing that right now for the
Ravens in a large way, because you don't blow that
game again. That's a game you win thirty five to
fourteen and say great, we're back on the winning track.
We're ready for week three, you've put everything behind us.
Now this is again those Week one losses. Sometimes they
will stay with you and ruin your season. And that's
the path the Ravens are on right now. Yeah, I
(22:35):
mean with some of it, you just get into the curiosity.
You know, the offensive line, they give up a sack
hill with a two yard run and then the old
short pass. So it's like all right, wishing, wanting, hoping
that yak and that the blocking scheme has enough time
to shore up. Well, when you do an awful lot
of screen passes, bubble screens, whatever, as the Ravens are
(22:57):
wont to do, guess what Raiders are bringing the heat
and that's gonna get blown up at the spot as
it did there, forcing the punt and eventually leading to
the field goal. The prior possession again, you know, a
couple of run calls, Derrick Henry, you have false starts,
and there goes another another thing we've seen time and
time again through the first two weeks of the season.
It's just been sloppy. Whether it's a point of emphasis
(23:20):
that any official wants to raise their hand and go,
yeah we were told about that, but how many times
did you watch your squad. Certainly me watching the Bears
on Sunday night, false start like it's not scared of
the guys, Like what functionally is happening here? Again going
back to Shane Walter and maybe he was scared calling
the play so they didn't get the proper count in.
(23:40):
But whatever the case was, we see that, you know,
and that is absolutely torpedoing drives along the way. But
to take the ball out of Derrick Henry's hands, who's
run the ball pretty well in theory, that's why you
brought him in. And the worst of it is the
Ravens are one of what five or six teams that
we always go the culture's right. You may not like
the results, you may not like how the sausage man
(24:01):
like we were talking about the Steelers last hour, but
you know, there's a thought process to the roster construction,
to the identity of that squad and for the Ravens.
Even though we might have expected with the emergence of
likely Andrew's healthy Za Flowers year or two that there
might be a little more in the passing game, the
identity is still the run game of Henry and Lamar Jackson.
(24:24):
And then in theory, justin Tucker's not missing field goals.
So maybe while we're worried about everybody else crossing that
bridge and falling off the cliff in the NFL, maybe
Old Justin Tucker's range has shortened up quite a bit
year as well. He's gone from boy, this is the
best kicker anybody's ever seen to dude, the guy can't
make one from over fifty. But that's it, Okay. But
(24:46):
I mean that was a big part of how their
offense has been run for years. And we're seeing all
the other teams in the National Football League, like I said,
thirty five. Thirty five makes from at least fifty yards already,
so a lot of your offensive structure and we've seen
touchdown passing down. It's like the whole objectives score points,
not put the ball on harm's way. It's the age
(25:07):
of the kicker. Just for your dad's fantasy team, just
in time. The other week two, I told you so
told you that Trevor Lawrence is just a guy, okay,
And it's.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
Hard with Trevor Banks Stadium, and he had that effort.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
Dude, it's not look and I want to keep saying
it's not all on Trevor Lawrence, But how do you
lose this game? And Lawrence has an abysmal game. Throw
in the football he takes the safety at the end, which, ah,
it's not all on him, but dude, you got to
get rid of the football man you're down by fight
still there for you. Trevor Lawrence just isn't great. And
(25:45):
and it's like the Jaguars are paying him and treating
him because of his college resume, and you took him
number one and you believed for a full year he
was your savior. He was going to be your savior
from the middle of October when you knew what was
you were the Jets getting that number one pick all
the way through. And Trevor Lawrence has proved in three
(26:07):
years to be just a guy. He's a league average quarterback.
He had one good year, not one unbelievable. He had
one good year with twenty five touchdowns right two years ago.
Last year was more average. And he still gets paid.
Is in the top three quarterbacks in the NFL. That's
the contract that everybody's got to be pissed off about
the team's got to be pissed off about. Not guys
(26:29):
like Burrow and they get paid no, no, but Trevor Lawrence,
come on, man, Trevor Lawrence. He doesn't elevate. They've given
him playmakers and he's just okay. There's nothing wrong with him.
He's an okay quarterback, but he's not someone that is
going to grab the team and elevate them. He's His
(26:49):
entire Jaguars reputation is living off the one comeback playoff
game over the Chargers, where hey, if you had to say,
one team in the playoffs are gonna gag away a
fifty point lead, Chargers charge, Yeah, that's right, congratulations. So yeah,
So the image of that makes you think he's so great.
It's like Jadavian Clowney has played his entire NFL career
off the reputation has to hit from the outback Bowl, right,
(27:11):
like that's it. Odell Beckham's entire NFL career has come
off the one catch, right. And it's not that these
guys aren't good, but it's like they're not as great
as you think they are. Their resume is not there.
And Trevor Lawrence is just a guy. He's still He
doesn't make enough throws, he turns the ball over too much,
and at some point you're finding out. Boy, we overpaid
(27:32):
for someone just because we took him number one, because
we thought he was going to be a star. And boy,
it's embarrassing if we don't pay him the money, because wow,
how often do we get someone like this a generational quarterback?
So understand that Trevor Lawrence is really overrated and we're
seeing it week after week in the NFL. Yeah, I
think part of it when we look at it's the
(27:52):
I'll use the analogy of you see Larry Thomas up there.
You know who Larry Thomas is. Let's go to Seinfeld.
Here are the rules of engagement. Walk in order your soup.
Don't ask for extras, take what's in the bag, pay
the lady at the end, and get the hell out.
Don't engage, don't insult, don't make jokes. Soup guy Larry
(28:16):
Thomas ain't happy if you do that. That's how most
of these teams line up for the quarterback position. When
it comes time to do a contract, like, hey, that
last guy got paid, guess what dollar more? Come on
and you'll get what you want. Here's your bag, move on,
And that's what we do every time a quarterback comes
up because nobody's decided, and there was that outside shot
(28:37):
that maybe the Cowboys, we're gonna say it to Dak
go find the open market deck, we love like you,
we don't love you. And then eleventh hour Jerry had
Tom Brady in the house. It's the season opener. I
have a big announcement. Yeah yeah, check it out. We
signed the Dack kid, right, I mean, and here we go,
(28:58):
so he's the next man up. Now you consistent to
save that announcement for before the Saints game. Maybe would
have had a little bit better game. Maybe you wouldn't
have lost a fifty six to three like we did.
Save me a little more energy. Maybe maybe we should
have paid the Parsons kid while we're at it, or
a couple of other defenders to help the Parsons kid.
But the point being that, you know they did what
(29:19):
was expected. Here's the next man up, and what are
your alternatives? Who else is out there that you're gonna
go clamoring for? Look at what the Packers are doing,
all right. They brought in Molquals. They gotta win.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
It was not stylish. I don't think Jacob. I don't
think he did.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
I don't think he threw a p you want to
talk about old school? I think he was O for
oh h for zero yards and had minus two yards
rushing because of the that's all of us, but the idea.
All right, you won, but you're still sitting here going
all right, if Jordan Love is not cleared for weeks?
Does this look like twenty seventeen? Right? When you're looking
at Miami right now with two a tongue of iloan
(29:55):
now to the IR, you've got Skyler Thompson. But you're
also trying to say, okay, what does it look like? Right?
We were talking about waiver claims for fantasy Tyreek Hill
and Guillotine leads. He's out there. How much your reasonably
bid for Tyreek Hill here going into week three out
of your one thousand dollars free agent acquisition budget? Right?
I mean it's it's one of those debates of how
(30:15):
much can that offense run? Because nobody's riding to the
rescue and running the offense like to it. Isn't that Spider?
Isn't it the kid that hates Peter Parker in high
school playing quarterback? Now, Skylar Thompson wasn't he he hates.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
Some That's right, beating him up.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
That was the uh Joe what was it death stroke
or death throke or whatever his name was in Yeah,
Joe Manganella is married to Sophia viagar a while. Yeah,
yeah he was. He was the original Flash beating up
on Jobe Maguire. Okay, yeah, I like this kid who
plays Flash Thompson. He's fun. Yeah yeah, he's Spider Man
(30:52):
and I are best friend. No, that's just it, right,
total different take. The other was meathead picking on. Now
it's just antagonist friends. Hey, what's up Parker? See you
couldn't even read the whole Parker line, not safer air No,
because what he says says, oh, Spider Man, I'd be
best friends, and he looks.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
What's up Blanker? There you go, Spider Man. Some week
two NFL.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
I hate to say I told you so, right, Peterson overrated,
let's do that too. Well, a guy who's gonna tell
you everything about the night in the world of sports,
smart and wi Sam Dob, What do you got for us?
Speaker 3 (31:29):
Well, right now, I got the Yankees with a seven
to one lead over the Mariners top of the sixth inning.
There the Yankees, of course leading the American the American
League East, There we go. The Guardians lost to the
Twins earlier today four to one. Cleveland is atop the
AL Central. The Tigers and the Royals well squarely. In
the wildcard mix. Detroit beat Chansas City three to one
(31:50):
and ten innings. That's detroit second.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
Win over the Royals in a row. Royal is currently
on a three game losing streak.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
Oriol's still holding on to the top spot in the
AL Wildcard despite dropping to the Giants hen to nothing.
Blake's now with the start for the Giants to all strikeouts,
gave up one hit over six innings, pitched the thirty
six one hundred and fifteen White Sox, trying to avoid
the record of one hundred and twenty losses in a season.
Five nothing Angels bottom of the seventh inning.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
Doesn't look good for them. Tonight does not look good tonight.
You know, we're watching it and we're celebrating every inning
of it because it's almost.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
Gone four to six in the last ten.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
Well, it's it four game winning streak. Maybe, come on,
you know they hadn't done that all year.
Speaker 2 (32:29):
That's what is that.
Speaker 3 (32:30):
I can't even do the math nine times the ninth
of their wins in the last week.
Speaker 1 (32:34):
But they gotta go.
Speaker 4 (32:35):
Now.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
If they lose this game tonight, which they do, they
gotta win five of their last nine games to avoid
being the worst team of all. Look at this point,
you just go for it, man, Come on, let's get
that record. They'll hang a banner, will do a parade,
We'll do weelas like all those dopes clogging off the
freeways in Chicago.
Speaker 2 (32:56):
So that's right, your dopes get off the road. According
to Harmon, you know, records are like publicity.
Speaker 3 (33:01):
There's no such thing as a bad one, you know,
and nineteen What the hell.
Speaker 1 (33:06):
Is the difference? Martin? I agree, Right at this point,
you might as well go ahead, right, You might as
well bring back Wilbur Wood a bunch of other dudes
to chuck a couple innings for you.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
The Phillies beat the Brewers five to one.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
Earlier tonight show, hel Tani hit his forty eighth home run,
but the Dodgers loose to the Marlins nine eleven to nine.
The Dodgers worth three and a half up on the
Padres to start the day in the NL West.
Speaker 2 (33:28):
Right now, tie two to two.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
The Astros and those aforementioned Padres top of the eighth inning.
Rockies beat the Diamondbacks eight to two, and Arizona loss
means the Mets move up in the wild card.
Speaker 2 (33:38):
Congratulations to you.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
Braves fallow back two out of the final wildcard spot
as Atlanta drops six to five to the Reds. Mets
beat the Nationals ten to one. A's beat the Cubs
four to three in the NFL two nine.
Speaker 1 (33:51):
We moved up to tie the Diamondbacks because they lost. There.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
All of a sudden, we're in that second wildcard. Rocky
Mountain High.
Speaker 3 (33:59):
There we go to a talk about on injury reserve,
as you guys just said, Dolphins signed quarterback Tyler Honley
from the Ravens practice squad, released Robbie Chosen r receiver,
Chiefs signing Kareem Hunt Brown, signing Royce Freeman, and the
Giants placed Graham Ganol on injured reserve. After that debacle
on Sunday, they'll.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
They'll have a field goal kicker next week. I imagine
back to you guys, I.
Speaker 1 (34:22):
Don't know, it's the Giants. They're tanking. Maybe they won't.
Ali Hadji Chik might come back to kick for the Giants.
Nicely now there's a reference. Let's go Haberwood eighty two
years old. He's gonna be eighty three this year. His
birthday is right around yours. He'll be eighty three. Let
us go wilber Wood twenty four wins in seventy two
and seventy three, both for the Chicago White Sox. There
(34:45):
you go, say, celebrating all the legends going all the
way back. Hey, coming up next to a high profile
NFL team that everybody's concerned about. But I'm telling you
I still love them and everything they're gonna do. That's
next right here, Jason Fox.
Speaker 2 (35:01):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (35:08):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon Live from the Ti rag dot Com Studios.
Come back, Alex tight Shirt. Hi, Oh, I tell you
your ripkin esque streak of three days in a row
before you had a day off. That was pretty impressive.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
It was tough.
Speaker 1 (35:29):
Yeah, I just don't know many how many times we
can welcome him back there. Nobody has more vacation than
Alex Tyshirt.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
I have questions.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
I don't know how.
Speaker 2 (35:36):
I don't know how I want to follow his methods.
Speaker 1 (35:38):
Really, I don't know how he does it. I don't
know how. I mean, he's a full time employee, yet
he works three days a week sometimes. Hey, yeah, man
of importance, I don't know how you do that. Man,
I don't know how you do it.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
Thank you now you just do.
Speaker 1 (35:49):
But there's an investigation. Look, let me just let me
say this, and I'm gonna make you really happy. You're
gonna make me make you happy? Are you gonna make
me happy? Because I know that everybody is justumping off.
The Bears band wet after their game this week. Right,
the offense looked terrible. They couldn't protect Caleb Williams. I
was cringing every time they would snap the ball because
(36:09):
I could see a Texans player rushing free to hit him. No, look,
it's it's a difficult Yeah. Look, it's a difficult thing
because it's it's not just Caleb Williams, it's you can't
protect him. He doesn't quite know what he can get
away with going downfield. Yet he didn't want to go
downfield through a lot of the game. And what he
did go downfield at the end of the game. Uh,
(36:30):
he misread a couple of things, and maybe he's got
to understand I can't get away with that like I
did in college. But it's really a whole thing where
the offense just isn't firing. And I know Dj Moore
was really upset at the end of the game.
Speaker 2 (36:43):
We saw the video.
Speaker 1 (36:44):
He could have Yeah, he could have had a big completion, like, dude,
what do you want? I got five yards to either side,
just throw the foot I don't know. But also the
as he walked past Bigent, Yeah I need you, bro. Yeah. Yeah,
at least that's the interpretation of what he mouthed to him. Yeah. Okay,
So I get I get that it's tough, but I'm
still a big believer because Caleb Williams is gonna get
(37:05):
it right. He's that he's that talented. He once he
knows I can just let it fly and he gets
a little bit of protect doesn't need a ton of protection,
just gets a little bit of protection. Everything is gonna
be much better. And the best part about this is
that the Bears defense is so bleeping this is it.
Speaker 2 (37:24):
They were still in that game.
Speaker 1 (37:25):
What did I tell you last week? I picked the
Bears as my one to win this game, because everybody's
gonna walk around from this game going, Wow, the Bears defense,
look what they were right, they shut down the other
CJ sttt Yeah, because the Texans did just what they
could against this Bears defense that was on the field
(37:45):
the entire game, and still they couldn't put the Bears away.
The Bears defense is legit. This is a top five defense.
They will carry the Bears until Caleb Williams starts to
get it. He's kind of on the Jordan Love train.
Is kind of what he reminds me of a little
bit here where he needs to play a few weeks
and just when you start thinking he's not gonna be
he's gonna start to get it. And then towards the
(38:07):
end of the season, while Caleb Williams is hell and
gone from where he was earlier in the year, that's
kind of what he reminds me of. And with this
defense being able to help you the way along, watch out. Man.
I still love the Bears, Man, I still love your Bears. No,
it's a long slug, right. You got that Week one win.
Did you deserve it? Necessarily? No? But your defense made
a play and now we're seeing week to week what
(38:28):
will Levice can do to top himself before he's deposed
as the quarterback in Tennessee. But we'll push that aside.
You touched that ball and throw it to a running
back when you're getting sacked one more time. It's like
a Chicago you pop that.
Speaker 2 (38:43):
Gum one more time.
Speaker 1 (38:45):
And he did, nicely done, nicely done right there. But
just the idea of you got your one and one
haven't played pretty football. Your run game is non existent,
like and that's the biggest concern. And I think in
terms of predictability and reliance of trying to figure out
(39:05):
some sort of balance. You got to be able to
back defenses off. And right now you're not using Johnson.
You're trying to roun DeAndre Swift. He loves to bounce
and loves to, you know, try to extend plays. There's
not a whole lot of north south with him. Like
he loves to go east west and then maybe he
finds a crease. Well that's not there right now, Waldron,
Like you said, play calling a bit out of sorts.
(39:26):
The offensive line not in Unison. The right side of
the offensive line was atrocious. But again you get a
couple of easy, makeable third and threes, third and fives.
It's a much different world that they're not lining up
for that. Right, You've got false starts getting called for penalties,
and then Williams has bad habits. Right, his footwork is
not good relying on all arm missed a couple of
(39:48):
what should have been easy throws. The fact that you
didn't have the you know, the Hoover vacuum that is
Keenan Allen setting down in the low post to be
able to get a couple of easy throws. That doesn't help.
But we expect did that. You just didn't expect it
in week two that he wouldn't be available. So yeah,
better days ahead. That defense is going to be there,
and your kicker can play super tow at a time,
(40:09):
bold control take care of things. If they actually called
that interception that should have stayed. That was a pick six, Yeah,
that got wiped off the board. Hand was under the ball.
Speaker 4 (40:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (40:20):
But I still love the Bears. I still love Bears, man,
I still love this week. You got the Colts. Yeah,
they can't terror Anthony Richards. Oh boy, I'm gonna have
to bench Anthony rat the Rams. I'm gonna have to
start Daniel Jones and Fan you know. Then you have
the Rams, then you have the Panthers, then you have
the Jaguars, and then you have your bye week.
Speaker 2 (40:38):
Come one, bears, let's go.
Speaker 1 (40:41):
We get back into a big breaking story out of
the NFL. This is Fox
