Speaker 1 (00:01):
You want experience during your football season, well, buckle up,
sweet cheeks. We've got all the experience in the world.
This is I want your flex with Dan Byer and
Mike Harmon. Mike and Dan break down everything you need
to set your lineups, from position rankings.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
To starts and sits.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
The guys help you make those hard decisions.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
And now let's get your flex on. Here's Dan Bayer
and Mike Harmon.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
That's a wrap out Week six hit. Mike, I'm at Swamadom.
You can find me at Dan Byer on Fox, and
Ian Roddy is our executive producer sitting there drinking his ears.
After the Jets fell on Monday night foot both of
the Buffalo Bills Mike an entertaining game, a flag filled
fun affair at MetLife Stadium, one where the Bills walked
(00:54):
away with the women and the Jets. I don't know
what they walked away with after that one.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Well more anger, more vitriol, more division, I think right
because Aaron Rodgers pointing fingers and we'll have Ian give
his thoughts in his Jets fandom. But you know Rogers
two ninety four and two, the big fifty two yard
Hail married Alan Lazard. We've been talking about Lazard forever.
(01:19):
Six catches, one fourteen and a score. So you know,
there's a guy that's still sitting on the waiver wire
in a lot of leagues, and we've been trying to
bang on the drum since before the season began. There's
the only reason the guy still has a job is
because Rogers trusts it, and lo and behold, there he
is again. Six reception, seven targets. Wilson gets over the
century mark, including a nifty little catch and toe tap
(01:42):
and everything in the back of the end zone. He
goes over one hundred yards, so that's a nice little win.
Bree Hall gets fed and ultimately the kicker does them in.
On the other side of things, you know, Cook the
late scratch, so Ray Davis if you had him on
your roster or he'll be a popular waiver wire. A
dish in one hundred and fifty two total yards and
(02:02):
Josh Allen modest two fifteen but efficient nineteen resent our completions,
two touchdowns two fifteen and you know, giving you a
little bit of juice on the ground with the rushing touchdowns.
So everybody plays, everybody wins, receiving corps for them not
so much, but that's okay.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Yeah, And I do want to get Ian's thoughts because
Ian is that Jets fan. But you mentioned the Ray
Davis substitution and for the injured James Cook. It's funny
because I was in a league, my longtime league, and
was going up against James Cook on Monday night football.
My opponent needed a significant night from James Cook or
Dalton and Dalton Kincaid, and I almost said Dalton Hilliard, like,
(02:45):
how far back in the way back?
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Awesome?
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Yes, I almost said, Dalton Hilliard got back way before
your time, Ian, former running back of the New Orleans Saints.
But anyway back to Dalton king Caid, truly, if you
listen back, I always said, Dalton Dalton Hilliard.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Uh Man, awesome way back machine.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
I think was he number twenty one? I think maybe? Anyway,
The point being is he had no James Cook, and
all of his players that he had on his bench
were I either played or on by. Our league also
does not allow pickups after a one o'clock Eastern time
on Sunday, so it's something that you have to plan for.
(03:23):
May not be the greatest rule in the world. But
that's what we have in our league. And I think
that there are situations that you just have to you
have to plan. And in the league that I am in.
Two weeks ago, Kenneth Walker, you know, was dinged up
for the Seahawks, wasn't quite sure we expected him to
play against the Lions, and then he did and scored
three touchdowns. But the point is is you have to
(03:46):
have a backup plan. So I looked out, all right,
who is available? I guess guess what, I'll just put
him in a flexed spot and then I'll just pick
up Tyler Lockett because he ended up being available in
our league, just in case something happened with Kenneth Walker
that he couldn't play. And I think James Cook is
a good message with that. Even if Adam Schefter is
telling you on Sunday James Cook is good to go.
(04:08):
It completely backfired and ruined people's Monday nights because they
believe that report when he ended up being inactive.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Yeah, it's really a bit of a mess. I mean
I got away with one because I'm in a league
where I was still allowed to trade out a player
from my bench to go get Ray Davis okay, and
I was able to start him, and that, combined with
the Lizard touchdown and the ineptitude of Greg Zerline, allowed
(04:35):
me to eke out a win. Was your guy on
by that, No, it was a guy that was on
my bench, so who had already played. But oh wow,
oh yeah, yeah, no like historically, and I didn't even
think this was possible, but I went, I'm like, all right,
I'm gonna go try to pick him up just for giggles.
(04:56):
And I'm like, well, I don't have anybody that's that's
still you know, a bye week and hadn't played, and
it allowed the pickup, and I'm like, wow, I can
insert him too. So I guess it kind of works
like the late deactivation. You can activate a guy ahead
of the game and away you go. Obviously I'm quite thankful.
I'm a little confused, little confused.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
But.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
Now I have James Cook's backup going forward. But it
created a little bit of a situation. I'm sure i'll
get a note about it at some point, But the
system allowed it, and I did nothing illegally. I did
not hack any code, and away we go. So I
guess the point of that, I'm trying to make is
you never know what your league may allow, so go
(05:41):
try it well.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
Sure, And this is a scenario that we actually had
in a Week one in our league, so our members
should know because we had someone to have Christian McCaffrey,
and it's the same situation. And it's just another reminder
to be prepared. And it's also just another reminder to
be prepared on Monday night or have that flexibility when
(06:03):
you're talking about getting your lineups ready, it's not just
about who has a bye week. It's we talked about
putting a guy in the running back position or putting
them in the flex position, because if you have them
in the running back position and your entire team is played,
then your really hands are really tied in terms of
trying to find that replacement. So I don't think that
this is fantasy one oh one and maybe two to
(06:24):
oh one, but it's another good reminder just to make
sure that you're prepared for it because I know people
are saying, oh, it's bs a's garbage. James Cook screwed me,
he did, but you have to bear some of the
responsibility to not have a backup plan to put him
in if you're in that situation one.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
Hundred percent accurate, and I stole one, and I feel
like I stole one, So I'll make a donation to
the Human Fund in James cook names. Now that being said,
now that we did the fantasy part of all of this,
ian you had any eventing you want to.
Speaker 4 (06:57):
Do, I don't want to vent too much because I
feel like I'm too emotional right now that I might
end up saying say things that I regret to be.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
Good for the podcast. Let's go.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
Yeah, hear it?
Speaker 2 (07:09):
My user line blank.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
You I really if you look at the box score,
it's actually surprising that the Jets lost because you look
at the stats that they put at Rogers himself two
ninety four and two touchdowns. Obviously the interception at the
end sucked, but you know, Breize Hall eighteen carries one
hundred and thirteen yards, Alan Lazard one hundred and fourteen
receiving yards and a touchdown. Garrett Wilson one hundred and
seven in a touchdown. These are winning team stats that
(07:32):
are across the board, good, good for fantasy as well.
The fact that they lost the game is so infuriating,
and it's it's because of the kicker. That's who I
put it on. At the end of the day. I
don't blame Rogers. He was dealing tonight. He threw the
interception at the end for the second week in a row,
which sucks, it really does. But he made some amazing throws.
There was that one in the fourth quarter where the
ball literally like flew right by the defender's hip. If
(07:55):
you guys saw that, ye, Lazard caught it. Great catch
by Lazard as well. But at the end of the day,
they lost, and they're two and four and this was
for the division and now they lose a tiebreaker with
Buffalo if it comes to that at the end of
the year. This hurts. This hurts. And then the flags.
The flags were the worst part of the game. Made
it unwatchable. It was like less football. It was like
more of like a like a podcast by the refs.
(08:17):
It was more them talking than actual football. That's what
it was.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
I know it's a small sample size, but did you
see any difference without Robert Salah?
Speaker 4 (08:29):
Yeah, it's a good question.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
I didn't.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
Well, the biggest thing, the biggest thing with him, not
the biggest, but one of the big things that he
was fired for is that the team comes out every
week flat and they get killed by these stupid penalties.
And honestly, the penalties were even worse today, So I
don't It's not like Sla gave us any reason to
think that if he were still here the penalties would
have been a lot better, But it at least didn't
(08:53):
improve with him leaving, which is a little concerning.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
So hope the discipline was no better, right, Like, that
was the one thing that over the course of the
week that you preach of, you know, all all of
those the small things. They're still coloring outside the lines
that like, and that's not going to change. And Aaron
Rodgers throwing the teammates under the buses multiple buses here.
That ain't helping.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
Mike. I'm not sure if your show it started or not,
but the Bill Belichick.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
That's great one. Yeah, yeah, we did it.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Weak down of the Jets.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Yeah we did. We did a bunch on that. We
did as much on that as we did on the game.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
Oh, Michael, what's his problem? I just like, what is
his problem with the Jets? He hates whatdy Johnson?
Speaker 3 (09:35):
Clearly, Yes, Oh I love the line and it's not
original to him, but the ready fire aim. It is
so it's so correct, but he's but in this instance,
and there's a lot of history and if you watch
some of the Belichick documentaries of you know, even even
with this, you know time there with the with Parcels
(09:56):
as the defensive coordinator, there are some high jinks because
he even joked about and he said, I was the
head coach before Parcels. Then I was the head coach
after Parcels, and the head coach before Parcells. Was this
weird sort of agreement that had to be made because
Parcels couldn't technically beat coach at the time. The whole deal. Anyway,
I think that Bill Belichick is right on the head
(10:18):
in just talking about the organization and the decision and
honestly the decision that Salah was going to make to
strip Nathaniel Hackett of the play calling. I guess it
helps with the night that Breece Hall had, although I
don't think Brice Hall was going to fall off the
map by any means. I actually think that he and
Allen are their strongest parts of their offense, guys, and
you have to lean on that. But you saw that
(10:39):
on Monday night, and which to me makes the firing
again that much more ridiculous considering nothing really changed and
now there you are two and four and you got
to play the rest of the year with an interim
head coach. Just odd to me.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
Yeah, I think when you get down to it, it
becomes the well, you can't fire everybody, right that old
added you leaned into the whole Aaron Rodgers experiment going
back to last year. So whatever he wanted was going
to go. As we talked about last week. I think
his denial when he was on McFee whatever the cadence
was straight out of the Bill Clinton playbook of I
(11:16):
did not order. Well, tell me you didn't have a
conversation about it, or at least you know some venture
frustrations that maybe you know, you nod in a wink
towards ownership of what you think needs to happen here.
Great coordinator, not a great head coach. But in the
short term, did it solve anything? No? I mean Buffalo
(11:39):
coming into this game, they were giving up one hundred
and forty rushing yards per game, so not exactly a
shock that Brest Hall had himself a good night, right.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
Yeah, And I'll tell you what they should have maybe
given Braylan Allen Moore carries right like that could have
been that could have been an option for them.
Speaker 4 (11:59):
And speaking of Breee as well, there was that one
run that he broke through the line and looked like
he could have had a score and then he ended
up getting brought down.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
Well, you know what, that was a terrible decision by him.
Speaker 4 (12:08):
Ian by Breese. Yeah, I mean, I if I'm if
I'm the coach, I tell him right after that play,
you have to score there.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
It's plays like that they've wrapped the sideline. As a defender.
Speaker 4 (12:19):
You're supposed to be a superstar player, a blue chip
player on this team. That's the kind of situation where
one on one with one defender, you gotta make a mess.
You have to score. That touchdown would have won them
the game, or at least try.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
To run through him instead of out of bounds, right
side stepping out of bounds.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
I'm gonna make one other point because I'm going to
call this the DeVante Adams Bowl, because I don't think
the Saints are in the picture anymore with Derek Carr's
injury and there's now talk of maybe the Raiders won't
trade DeVante Adams. But if you're Buffalo and you see
how tonight played out, this is this is the type
of game that I know that the Jets are sound defensively,
(12:57):
a good defensive team, but when we're we've tried to
sort out who Josh Allen is over these last couple
of weeks, and Tonight gets in the end zone on
a touchdown run, has those two touchdown passes. But it's
more of the yardage sort of thing where I look
at it and say, okay, this is the sort of
night that Josh Allen is probably going to have. Ray
(13:19):
Davis was their leading receiver yardage wise because of that
enormous catch, and then you had Dalton kin kay six
catches on seven targets, and Khalil Shakir who came back
was only there for two catches and nineteen yards. This
is kind of, I think, what you kind of got
to expect from the from the Buffalo Bills. And in
(13:40):
a normal game, there may be that one off where
they get rolling like they did against Jacksonville and you know,
everybody bats, everybody scores, but I think this is more
again of what you can expect for Josh Allen and
it's going to be dependent on if he gets a
rushing touchdown or not.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
I think you're one hundred percent right, and can I
Since we've gone a deep dive on the Jets, I'd
like to just make it in passing the Sean McDermott
could have been finding himself on the unemployment line for
decisions made at the end of the half with the
Hail Mary, because he actually called the time out and
then rushed two guys, leaving Rogers with about forty two
(14:19):
seconds to set up and eventually throw the ball to the Bizark.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
Halftime was over by the time he threw the ball.
I mean it was you had all the right he
had also, like.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
We were playing back in the street, all right, I
got a count to what twelve Mississippi before you can rush? Okay.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
You know it's also amazing because I know these were
the throwbacks to the nameath era, but were they weren't
exactly the throwbacks to the two thousands that they wore
with Rex Ryan. They looked really good. They really like
the Jets have two uniforms that you could just toggle between.
It's the current one, which the helmet looks great. I mean,
(14:56):
it really does with the Jets on it, and then
you've got this one. I would love to see an
alternate white helmet with the Jets writing across it. Maybe
we'll see that next year. Who knows. Get rid of
that black junk that they black uniforms because it was
a good look on Monday night.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
It was crisp, and it looked a lot better because
we got to see it for hours long wide because
they were standing around like models waiting for the officials
to adjudicate twenty two bleaping penalties.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
I thought it was the nice yellow accent flags that
made the uniforms even pop even more. That's that's what
I felt was a key part of that fashion component.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
Is that why they were throwing the flag? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (15:37):
Made them look real good. All right, moving on here
and I want your flex. He is Mike Carmen. Hit
him up at Swollen Dome. You can find me Dan
Buyer at Dan Byer on Fox. And a tough night
for Ian Roddy, a resident Jets fan that you can
find on x at Ian Roddy Underscore. Go ahead tweet them.
I guarantee Ian's probably gotten zero tweet so far. But
if you ever have any streaming defense advice Ian's guy
(16:00):
you gotta go to, and we'll check in with how
a streaming defenses did later on in the podcast, when
Mike also gives us his waiver wire for week seven.
But coming up next, we take a look ahead. There
could be a quarterback change in Indianapolis and another quarterback
change on the horizon down the line that you'll definitely
need to be ready for. That's next tier and I
(16:21):
want your flex. All right, let's take a look back
at what we had in week six. Mike we mousel
starts early on Sunday eight with the early game Caleb
Williams four touchdown passes could have been five if DJ
Moore just would have gotten in on that little pop pass,
but instead ends up with four. Your Bears get a
(16:43):
big win in Jacksonville. I heard a lot of commentary
on Doug Peterson not gonna make it, Doug Peterson should
be fired. I don't think those people realize that Jacksonville
has another game in London in Week seven and that
would logistically be an absolute nightmare for the Jaguars. So
if something is gonna happen, Heck, if you lose to
the Patriots, then you have every reason to let go
(17:06):
of Doug Peterson. But your Bear's got things off on
the right foot for you with a win in week
six over Jacksonville.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
Been pretty funny. Hey, we're calling perspective replacements. Do you
have an updated passport?
Speaker 3 (17:18):
No?
Speaker 2 (17:19):
Damn it all right? Can he coach via zoom on
the sideline?
Speaker 5 (17:24):
No?
Speaker 2 (17:24):
Just one of those games that starts off a little oddly.
I mean because you have Trevor Lawrence, who we've talked
about a lot on the podcast. Good for fantasy purposes
and certainly network wise, talking about, you know, the state
of quarterbacking. Everybody laments paychecks. It's not your paycheck, shut up,
But it's the idea that you know, he's got a
(17:47):
bunch of receivers that continue to betray him, right. I mean,
he throws the ball to Gabe Davis, who you might
as well have been playing dodgeball because it hits him
square in the chest and bounces off. That was the
wont of four touchdown passes drop. Now, as a resident
you know Chicago Bears fan perfectly fine by me let
(18:07):
them all fall in complete. But you know, he certainly
had his plays, his chances. Doesn't mean he didn't have
his share of wounded ducks and bad decisions. Don't get
me wrong, but that part of it was interesting for
the Bears. The first couple of weeks of the year,
we talked a lot about how things just didn't look right.
What's going on. It seems like they're kind of going
and flying by the seat of their pants and trying
(18:30):
to cobble things together. And then you find out from
those team meetings that they didn't script their first fifteen
you know, like everybody's done since the beginning of time,
and all of a sudden they do that, and tada,
look we have sequencing, we have a plan. We get
to you know, poke and prod like we're the velociraptors
in Jurassic Park and find the weak links in a
(18:51):
defensive secondary or an electrified fence as it were. And
here you have Caleb Williams making big rose big decisions,
Cole Comet serving as the long snapper after an early injury,
comes up huge, and Caleb finishes with the four touchdown passes.
Keenan Allen talked about him being a stabilizer once he
(19:16):
comes in two touchdowns for him picking up big, big third.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
Downs, et cetera.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
So I mean, it's one of those things that you
know makes the offense, you know, more more consistent. And
then DeAndre Swift running north south and if he's going
to get to the edge, guess what it's designed not
a hey feel it out and eventually get there or
get tackled behind the line of scrimmage. No, it's there's
they're moving with direction and purpose. Is Jacksonville the greatest
(19:42):
litmus test to decide where you are? No, but it's
also you beat and you execute against who's on the schedule.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
Are you are you ready to sell all of your
stockout in Jacksonville players?
Speaker 4 (19:57):
No?
Speaker 2 (19:57):
I still think there's gonna be some opportunity. I mean,
even starting this Sunday against New England. Yeah, I mean
they're not good, so you know, there's no reason that
Lawrence can't have a game. Do I trust it necessarily
in a standard fantasy league? No? Not not really. I
think you've got enough for Gabe Davis. I mean, because
(20:18):
he ended up having a great Fantasy day. I mean
he'll turn.
Speaker 3 (20:22):
You down twenty one to three or whatever it was.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
Well, I don't think that's going to be an outlier
even against New England.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
Shirt Ye.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
Now, because Drake May showed he can sling it around
like the over under on that game's forty three. I
wouldn't have thought that.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
If Jackson Honestly, if Jackson doesn't win that game, then
Doug Peterson will not be the head coach. So they
come back. That is it must win. You have to
win that sort of game. There's no excuses with that.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
But yeah, I guess Tank Bigsby would become an RB
two at this point.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
Yeah, especially with Etn's injury. It's going to be out
for week to week, is what they're saying with the
hamstring injury, haven't Ingram caught all of his targets and
there were ten of them, So that ends up voting
well for him because there was some value there.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
Good to have him back in the mix. That fumble
loomed large as well.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
Yeah, and I think that jack as you said, Jacksonville,
will be in those type of games where you'll maybe
you'll be down like you are twenty one to six,
twenty one to three. So there's the possibility of Christian Kirk,
but I thought Christian Kirk would have more of an
impact on the offense. With the subtraction of Kelvin Ridley.
(21:29):
I think I even mentioned this last week on the podcast.
Wasn't necessarily there expecting more from Brian Thomas Junior. Although
Trevor Lawrence was a bit off on his throws, And
that's the other factor of it is Lawrence did have
some drops from his wide receivers, and you mentioned Gabe
Davis and stuff like that, but there are just too
many missed throws still. So now you have miss throws
(21:52):
compared to drops and it's just not going to be
winning football with the Jaguars.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
Now we've seen it, the struggle with deep throws across
the NFL. But Lawrence right now would be the guy.
Remember he was going to be generational for that year,
and then we moved to the next guy that was
going to be generational, and the next guy and now
Shudeur Sanders. I don't know if you heard. Early returns
are that next year he's going to be generational.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
Well we'll see about that. Plus he only wants to
play for the Raiders, so we'll see also how that works.
Drake May conversation not saying that he is a pickup. However,
Remindra Stevenson didn't play for New England against Houston. That
would have helped. You'd have to think there'd be more
of a running game if he was in there. But
(22:38):
you did have some success to Mario Douglas that have
six catches ninety two yards in a touchdown, Maybe a
bit more of a possibility to play some Patriots with
Drake May now a quarterback.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
Yeah, I think, you know, you open things up and Houston,
you know, I've talked about it, you know, on the
show with Smith and certainly here Dan. I don't think
they're I mean, they're five and one record, the old
you are what your record says you are. But they
they're gettable, right, They've had a couple of escapes they've had.
This one was obviously a beat down over New England.
(23:12):
But you look at what Drake May was able to
do two forty three and three did. He looked the
part and was ready to throw. So, you know, Hunter Henry,
we've liked him as a back end, tight end one
just for red zone opportunities. Now they were fewer and
maybe further between. Not sure with Stevenson still wondering, you know,
(23:35):
ball security wise how much that plays into things. But
Gibson going thirteen for nineteen it's sure as hell isn't gonna,
you know, convince anybody that he shouldn't still be the
one when healthy, when you're leading rusher is Drake May
and he doubles up Gibson. That's that's not good for business.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
No, absolutely not. And I'm not saying that you're going
to bench Ceedee Lamb for to Mario tug. The point
is is Tomorrio Douglas may be available in your league.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
No, that's shit. Douglas is worthwhile to pick up. He's
one of the guys on the list for sure. Target
count is high.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
Yeah, and if you're planning for the rest of the season,
it's sometimes it's those guys who end up are the
you know, the difference between a fantasy playoff berth and not.
So why not because there is going to be a
change with New England, and I think a change for
the better.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
Three games out of his last four, he's at nine targets,
not bad, fifty nine six ninety two yards and a
touchdown in those three games. So opportunity there.
Speaker 3 (24:35):
And I think he'll be more capable with Drake May.
More able with Drake May because Drake May is more capable.
I think in what in being a more aggressive offense.
No disrespect to Jacoby Brissett is I probably will disrespect
him in a matter of five seconds. But he's in
there to take to control the game, to make sure
(24:56):
they don't do anything stupid and hopefully their defense plays
well enough and then they can maybe pull out a win.
Now with Drake May, you even though he's a rookie,
I don't think you have those restraints, considering there is
a larger piece at work, and that's trying to develop
him and make sure that he that he progresses as
(25:17):
a first round pick and is your quarterback of the future.
You don't need him to manage games for you at
this point. I think there's more opportunity for Drake May
in New England.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
Yeah, I'm afraid of him still running for his life
week to week, but obviously the desired decided that trial
by fire and playcating the fans with, you know, a
glimpse of the future. He overrides anything about Hey, this
offensive line is not ready to make him be at
his best. But you know that's where we're at week seven.
(25:49):
We make for some strange bedfellows between injuries and bye weeks.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
Yeah, and you know, Week seven has an interesting matchup
Dolphin's Colts, and it may not feel like that on
the surface, but the Colts expected to get Anthony Richardson
back and Indianapolis. I don't want to say that they're
rolling rolling because Flacco wasn't great against the Titans. He
was good enough, and he's tarring touchdown passes to Michael
(26:13):
Pittman Junior. Where people said Michael Pittman Junior was gonna
end up being out multiple weeks because of a back injury.
Not only does he not be out multiple weeks, he
ends up scoring a touchdown that proved to be the
difference of the game. But you expect the Colts are
gonna change and I feel like it's stageje vous all
over again. Mike Is. We had this conversation last week,
But now you have a Dolphins team that's coming into
town that's winnable. I actually find it interesting that now
(26:37):
they will go back to Anthony richards In because I
think Flacco could get them that win against a shorthanded
Miami team that still doesn't have tool.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
Well, it wasn't Richardson supposed to play this week, Yeah,
so what's to say it's not just gamesmanship, and they
recognize the reality of the situation. Like that's what I'm wondering.
If they play the gamesmanship off the injury. Sure, and
then it's it's Joe Flacco comes out.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
And you know, and I bring this, I bring this up,
and I feel like I talk about it maybe more
than I should. So I should apologize to anybody that's
listening to this podcast.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
Thanks for staying with us.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
Yes, thank you very much that I'm spending so much
time talking about the Colts. But it's just the fact
of how different those two players are, yeah, and how
they can affect so many different things down the line.
There is Josh Downs was available in one of my leagues.
I was going to pick him up, but then I
heard Richardson was probably going to play, right, and then
so I didn't. I'm like, well, I'm not going to
(27:32):
do that. Only a Flacco or to play. Made some
other moves, and then Joe Flacco is going to start,
and I'm like, well, I kind of already made these
other moves. I couldn't compensate. And you know, Jonathan Taylor's
been out as well, you expect his return. I just
feel that there's just a lot of volatility when it
comes to the Colts.
Speaker 2 (27:48):
Yeah, it's a bit of a maddening situation, no question.
Flacco goes for one hundred and eighty nine two and one.
Goodson's the leading rusher, eight carries fifty one yards. Sermon
barely falls forward on half his carries. I mean he
had a long of eleven Dan eighteen carries twenty nine yards.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
Yeah, that's not good, that's not that's.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
Not good for business. But they eke out a win,
and I think week to week, you know, like we're
talking about whether Brisset or may you know, from a
winning perspective. And I actually did air quotes while we're
doing and recording a podcast with no video component. Is
the same thing here, of all right, we want to
see what Richardson is, but we may actually have a
(28:30):
chance to win some of these games. And it's you know,
a more I don't know, systematic approach to a game
with Flacco under center as opposed to the improvisation that
Richardson has to do at times, and with Taylor being
banged up, that you go more for the veteran QB.
(28:51):
I don't. I don't think it's the last we've seen
of this, so it's it's kind of a no fly zone,
except I would pick up Josh Downs because the now
that he's healthy, the tar there and who knows, we'll
have more gamesmanshipped with Pittman's injury status.
Speaker 3 (29:04):
I'll tell you what's Speaking of injury, I'd love to
talk Spencer Rattler and how that could have domino effects
moving forward. But the Saints likely one of Chris Alave
on Thursday against the Broncos, not Rashichi Heats dealing with
a knee injury. I don't even I don't even know
what to say Thursday night football. It's going to be
(29:24):
a must miss action, even in Sean Payton's return. But
I'd love to have a Spencer Rattler conversation. I just
don't know what that conversation is because I have no
idea who's going to throw the football to.
Speaker 2 (29:35):
Well, and sir Tan got air injured on the other side, right,
so I mean you got you got injuries all. Yeah,
it's well, it's this short week, it's you know, and look,
it is not sexy on paper at all, even if
everybody was available. Yeah, right, it is not one because
I mean the the first half offense for Denver has
(29:56):
been non existent, absolutely non existent. I mean, and that
game against the three was brutal.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
I And in the end it looked a lot nicer
than it was. I was at I instituted during the
show I do with Kerry Rhodes the one hundred yard
watch because bo Nicks was not there through three quarters
of action that we were gonna we were gonna follow
and then he ended up throwing up a pass that
you know, got him like forty yards and ended up
(30:24):
moving way past the mark because of what they did
in the fourth quarter. But yeah, he didn't top one
hundred yards three quarters into the game. Just awful.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
Yeah, no, it was. It was a disaster watching much
of it and just the curiosity of what flows out
of there. You know.
Speaker 3 (30:44):
Here here's my other thing. Speaking of the late window
and moving off the Saints and Broncos, do you think
Aiden Hutchinson's injury with Detroit will affect their offensive players
fantasy wise? Because I do.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
I think it has to. Yes, I agree, I mean
unless they go into the trade window and you know,
and get creative because we we talked about it a
little bit of you know, what if you can say, hey,
Max Crosby, want to play for a winner and just
send a giant bounty to Las Vegas. Here. You can
keep Devanta Adams, but we want this guy. But I
(31:18):
agree with you. I think it changes in the complexion
of that squad one hundred percent.
Speaker 3 (31:22):
And now without anybody to he was their real threat
to get after the quarterback. You don't have that threat there.
That means maybe other teams are going to be able
to move the ball a little bit easier against that
Detroit defense. And now you're going to need Jared Goff
and Jamior Gibbs, David Montgomery and everybody else to step
up a little bit more. I think that injury does
(31:44):
help fantasy wise all of your Detroit Lions that that
you're playing, because now they're going to be in more
shootouts like they were with Seattle than the one Saturn
affair that they had against Dallas.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
I think you're one hundred percent right they should go
out and trade for Hassan Reddick. Hey, Goo, Ian, I
solved your problem.
Speaker 3 (32:02):
Speaking of Ian, he's gonna be with us in just
a matter of minutes. We're gonna check in how a
streaming defenses were. I will tell you how the Survivor
and points of Palouza fared, plus a little look at
Mike's report guard and Mike Scott some Waiver Wire picks
for us coming up as well. It's our week six recap.
He's Mike Carmen, I'm Dan Byer. It's all next here
(32:22):
and I want your flex. All right, let's put the
finishing touches on this episode if I want your flex.
Still a lot to get to. We end week six
and we go to week seven, where only two teams
will have buys, Bears and Cowboys. One really needs a
buy for whatever reason, and your Bears probably want to
(32:43):
play tomorrow. Mike, think things have gone, you know, as of.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
Late, everything clicking with Waldron Dophins. I gotta say two
Guilleteen leagues I'm in Mike, Caleb Williams and Cole Comet
combination put me as the high score for the week
in both.
Speaker 3 (32:58):
Well, not your only great prediction, because he did hit.
You had Chris Godwin as a top five play coming
into week six. He only had eleven catches for one
hundred and twenty five yards and two touchdowns, so that
one fared pretty well. Colt sores I don't know you
have if you have a crystal ball or not. But
Marvin Harrison Junior Chris Olave both knocked out of their games.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
I wasn't hoping for that. Dan Well, I'll.
Speaker 3 (33:21):
Tell you what you said, just the same Yeah, cautionary tail.
Jerome Ford, same thing as well, So there was there
was some success there. Tony Pollard, you had as a ninja.
Taji Spears ends up being dinged up for the Titans
and so Pollard ends up getting into the end zone.
So yeah, not a bad week again for Mike Carmen
(33:42):
all around on your week six picks, GiB.
Speaker 2 (33:45):
Was kind of a fun one. Couple of ones that
are still scratching my head. I mean I lost a
matchup in a big way because of the inaptitude of
the Dallas offense. Again, a good time for the buye.
We could do all sorts on Jerry Jones. Not wanting
to fire Mike Karthy. It's like it's the perfect time
you got embarrassed on your damn birthday at home and
(34:06):
you got a bye week to go fix it anyway,
why would you want to do? Why do that? No
help coming? You know me? I always fixate on the
ones that went wrong. Like Nase Harris was in the
cold sorees he goes and has himself a big day
and things like that. But Brown got it done.
Speaker 3 (34:24):
Yeah, he was in ninja play for you.
Speaker 2 (34:26):
We had Courtland Sutton in as a ninja. That touchdown
shouldn't have counted, but you know what, We'll take it.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
It was very It did hit the ground, the ball
didn't move, I will say that, but yeah, it was
very very iffy. Chase Brown, for me, screwed my Giants
plus three and a half. Yeah, and I'm just I'm like,
get down, just get down, just sit down. And he
had the fumble earlier, but he fumbled it, you know,
so ended up going forward and then out of bounds,
(34:53):
and I'm like it just there was no The Bengals
should have won that game by three, and I would
have been sitting pretty and would have been fine. But instead,
somehow they end up going down and scoring Joe Burrow
to make a magician on third down and then Chase
Brown took care of the rest. But I was hoping
he would have done the good sportsmanship and I'll just
slide and we can run out the clock from here.
(35:13):
It didn't happen though.
Speaker 2 (35:15):
More touchdowns and yards. When you go to the negotiating table,
nobody's going to remember the game's circumstances.
Speaker 3 (35:22):
So DB's are always intercepting passes thirty yards downfield on
fourth down? What are you doing? Speaking of defenses, Ian Roddy,
our executive producer, picks a streaming defense or even two
at times for you to take in week six. And
how did week six fair for one Ian Roddy in
(35:44):
streaming defenses?
Speaker 4 (35:45):
So, week six we had the Los Angeles Chargers, who
scored seven points for defense that ended up you know,
it was okay. They started off a lot stronger, they
had sixteen. For a while, they're looking like they were
going to finish that, and then they ended up letting
up some points. But that's okay, seven points. It's a
streaming defense. It's good enough. And then the Packers were
my other one, who we've named them a few times
(36:07):
is the streaming defense because they're still not very heavily rostered,
and they put up nine points. So again a successful
streaming defense. Week. I would say, well, we'll try to
really hit them out of the park next week. But yeah,
it was good solid.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
Yeah, the Cardinals ended up trying to trying to bounce
back from that win. I shouldn't say bounce back. Trying
to follow up that win against San Francisco. Tough to do.
Go to Green Bay and get there. They're lunch handed
to them by the Packers. But two solid streaming defenses
and the Chargers, Yeah, you're right, for most of the
day looked like Gangbusters with that defense. Is just the
(36:43):
late rallies by Denver and then Denver down ten and
they kicked the field goal with fifty five seconds left
to make it a seven point game. And don't always
see it, but we saw it on Sunday. But yeah,
I have no problem with your streaming defense picks. Survivor
pick for me, Mike, I said, the Bears, your Bears,
they go. They won with ease. I also liked the
(37:04):
Packers who beat the Cardinals. Here's the thing with survivorpool stuff.
From Week six, though every favored team in the NFL
won except the Tennessee Titans. They were the only they
were the and I'm not saying covered, but just straight up,
every favored team ended up winning. So in a survivor
(37:26):
pool you had very very little cartage. In fact, the
Titans were the only team that in a pool that
I ended up getting back in on a reload because
everybody was knocked out. The Titans were the only team
that had a blemish, so there was not a lot
of carnage in week six, if any in Week six,
So if I messed that up, I really would be
(37:47):
bad in survivor pools. But yeah, every team that was
favored except the Titans ended up coming away with a victory.
Doesn't mean they covered the spread, but they were the
straight up winner.
Speaker 2 (37:57):
Now against the spread, these sports books all had their
worst week ever, according to several directors of retail book
operations from the big especially after the Bills win over
the Jets. Sure, Monday night football, so just a miserable
day for the casinos. Anybody feeling bad for him?
Speaker 3 (38:19):
Nope, No, no, even the only one that was, I
would say, because the lines weren't enormous. The only big
line that I can really remember was the Eagles and Browns.
So the Browns ended up covering that because I think
they were about an eight and a half.
Speaker 2 (38:33):
Yeah it was eight and a half or nine and
a half depending on when you got in.
Speaker 3 (38:36):
Yeah, yeah, But otherwise you had you know, the Bears
winning by nineteen, Packers winning by twenty one, Texans won
by twenty, Buccaneers twenty four, like these are the even
the Ravens I think it was about six and a
half against the Commanders ended up they win by seven,
so they just cleared that number. But and then obviously
the thirty six point affair spread by the by the Cowboys,
(38:59):
excuse me, thirty eight points. I shortened him to thirty
eight point win that the Lions had over Dallas, a
big one if you add up all the points that
were scored, your real points of Palooza was Buccaneer Saints
because there were seventy eight points scored in that contest.
But I'll tell you what, my Falcons Panthers pick fifty
(39:20):
eight points.
Speaker 2 (39:20):
It's good.
Speaker 3 (39:21):
I'm taking it for my points at Paloozah yeah right, yeah, absolutely,
especially after a seventeen to seven game that you followed
on Sunday night football. So I will take the points
of Palosa and my oasis song of the week stopped
crying your heart out for Jalen Hurts. Nick Sirianni did
a lot of crying even after the win. The Eagles
(39:41):
ended up getting the victory. Hurts two hundred and sixty
four yards, two touchdowns in the air, had thirty three
yards on the ground. Solid effort. Wasn't spectacular, but it
was solid. That's all that I wanted from Jalen Hurts,
and he gave it to me on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (39:56):
So good to see them start getting healthy. Be curious
to see they've got a schedule that's set up really nicely.
If you own any component part of that Eagles offense.
Speaker 3 (40:06):
All right, Mike, I mentioned it Cowboys and Bears. With
the Buys in week seven? Who do we target on
waiver wire coming up in week seven?
Speaker 2 (40:14):
Well, we talked about Drake May a little bit. Got
an opportunity against the Jaguars team they don't get a
ton of pressure naturally, and May's escapability, much like we
talk about with bo Nix, like one of the greatest
assets going to be able to scramble for their lives.
So opportunity doth knock there once again. Justin Herberts owned
in forty percent of leagues. People have dialed out of
(40:37):
the Chargers world. But you know, opportunity again. You're looking
at a matchup this week for them that puts them
up against Arizona and well, we've seen what Arizona allows
and offensively, I have no idea what's coming to the
table for them with potential that Harrison Junior is going
(40:59):
to miss the one that was a scary scene, the
wildliness there. But for Kyler Murray, you know, he didn't
get much help. Not that he's going to be able
to take over games himself oftentimes, but you know, the
highlight worthy players are there. Remember double Monday night game
as well, Baltimore Tampa and Chargers Cardinals, So you got
that going. So those those are a couple of quarterbacks.
Speaker 3 (41:21):
Go ahead, Dan, No, I was gonna say this, and
it's difficult to say it on a week where we
don't know if Marvin Harrison Jr. Is going to be active,
but we've seen the boost that Malik Neighbors has given
Daniel Jones and the Giants like when he's been available.
Unfortunately hasn't been available these these last couple of weeks.
But Kyler Murray, you know, at the beginning of the year,
(41:44):
being like, well, I don't have to get him the
football or I'm not trying to force him the football.
I think you kind of do. I think like when
you're the Arizona Cardinals and you're trying to make that
next step, like it it helps you have Marvin Harrison
Junior begause that guy. And I'm not saying that Marvin
Harrison Junior is completely not at fault in any of this,
(42:04):
but the Giants were throwing the elite Neighbors like twenty
times a game. Cardinals may want to do that with
Marvin Harrison Junior when he gets back healthy.
Speaker 2 (42:13):
Just one of those things, right, However, you have to
scheme it up. If it's bubble screams, quick outs, quick ends, whatever,
you know, obviously you don't want to keep them out
of harm's way. We saw the scary moment in the
Monday Night game, you know, the past play where you
had the dated seventies reference Malachi Crunch Happy Days reference
on Garrett Wilson where he kind of got hung out
(42:35):
in the middle of the end zone. You don't want
anything like that, but certainly you got to put the
ball in your playmaker's hands. So yeah, however, that needs
to happen once once Malik Neighbors is healthy. I would
expect the Giants to get back. Why you know, you
hang a star on Daniel Jones as frustrating as a
game against the Bengals was, but for Arizona, Yeah, I
(42:57):
think that's how you have to handle Marvin Harrison Junior
going forward running back position. You got a couple of
guys that pop out of the weeds. Sean Tucker was
your leading scorer in a lot of leagues from Tampa
in that big game, and clearly we've seen Rashad White
is banged up, but he's also Wasn't that guy one healthy?
(43:17):
So opportunity doth knock there? Tank Bigsby, with the injuries
and ineffectiveness of ETN, perhaps he's able to wrestle the
Lion's share of the workload even if ETN is healthy.
Short term, Cleveland, you got injuries. You mentioned Jerome Forward
leaving with the Hanny Nick Chubb not expected back just yet.
(43:39):
So now we get to Dante Foreman and Pierre Strong.
I just like saying Pierre Strong's name. So we get
him at Tyrone Jersey going back to the Giants. I
don't know if Singletary's coming back, but I think Tracy
showed you enough that he's got to at least take
half that workload away, right as a runner and receiver.
So he's unowned in about sixty percent of leagues. Uh.
(44:01):
Bjeon Robinson had his big game. Guess what Algier was
still there? Uh, He's still available in a ton of leagues.
I'm curious as to what bench depth is anymore like
because I don't have that data like we see the
unowned and ownership and and how you know percentage played
in all but you know whether benches have really shortened
to force the churn and the free agent acquisition budgets
(44:24):
and strategy, or if folks are just being lazy. So
I'm not quite sure where that crosses. But Aaron Jones
is banged up, so ty Chandler becomes a possible play.
Speaker 3 (44:37):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (44:37):
There in Minnesota, we looked at Guarndo with Mason being
banged up. He had that one big run that accounted
for a lot of his effort in their last outing.
But might might have himself another opportunity, Camani Vidal going
back to the Chargers. Gus Edwards went to the I R.
So there's another option. When we get to the wide receivers,
(44:59):
Dan real Quick, We talked Josh Downs, He's already there.
Juju Smith Schuster. I know people are reticent to pick
him up. The Chiefs have no choice. People, they have
no choice coming out of the bye week to get
him involved early and often Carolina. They may not win
any games, but they're at least slinging it around. So
there's Xavier Lagette once again. We've talked about de Mario
(45:21):
Douglas and then Darius Slayton for the Giants. A lot
of that's dependent on what goes on with neighbors. That
whole situation is a little bit odd to me, and
Dable having to address it was odd. And then because
we have to do it, the requisite mentioning of our
old pal, Allen Lazard once again, nobody wants to pick
(45:44):
him up.
Speaker 4 (45:46):
Even I don't want to pick him up.
Speaker 2 (45:47):
It's so gross.
Speaker 3 (45:48):
He's on the bench of one of my teams, to
be honest with you, but.
Speaker 2 (45:51):
You have him rostered. At least you're playing defense with him.
Speaker 3 (45:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (45:55):
Right, And but it's just the idea of no matter what,
no matter what the rest of this offense becomes, that
guy's gonna have six targets a game. Minimum.
Speaker 3 (46:05):
Yeah, you're right, unless they get Davanta Adams right.
Speaker 2 (46:08):
Right, if he come to walking right. No, but that's
just it if he comes walking through the door and
they meet whatever the asking price is for the Raiders,
because right now I'd be like, oh, you're desperate, come
on in. We we we would like to move on
from Davante. But you know, really, yeah.
Speaker 3 (46:24):
Great stuff. All right, your waiver wire pickups for week seven.
That will just about do it. Except for one other
thing before we go here on, I want your flex.
Speaker 5 (46:36):
Happy birth Day two, nicely done. Happy birth Day two.
Happy birth Day, dear Christy, My happy.
Speaker 2 (46:59):
Happy birthday, Mike Carmen, thank you.
Speaker 3 (47:01):
At the time of this taping, we I have just
went past midnight. Here on Tuesday, October fifteenth, Mike Harmon's birthday,
we are celebrating. It's actually why this pot is a
little bit longer than normal. I'm just going to be
completely honest with you. Ian and I were trying to
(47:22):
figure out how are we going to get this beautiful,
these beautiful dulcet tones of whoever sang Happy Birthday for
Christine into the show. We wanted to do it. Happy birthday,
Mike Carmen, it is officially your birthday.
Speaker 4 (47:34):
Happy Birthday, Christine.
Speaker 2 (47:35):
I really thought you were doing a full on Robert
Goulai impression. That was impressive.
Speaker 3 (47:40):
That was done. Well. We are limited by what birthday
songs we can play because of copyright reasons, of course,
so we just Ian, where did you track that down?
You actually don't even say it because yeah, yeah, good
work and finding.
Speaker 4 (47:53):
That was actually me singing, Oh that's good for you.
Speaker 2 (47:57):
Find you an agent.
Speaker 4 (47:58):
Yeah, copyright issues.
Speaker 3 (47:59):
There, to Ian's point, that'd be remiss. Happy birthday, Christine,
where wherever you are? Yeah, any big birthday plans, it's tough.
It's on a Tuesday, Mike, that's a tough one.
Speaker 2 (48:11):
Now figure out. But to get up, do the coffee
routine that I do with my my younger daughter once
a week, we splurge and and get the takeout you
know from the big overbranded over proliferated, you know, chain,
and we sit and we chat and we we watch
some sort of sitcom before she goes to school. So
(48:32):
we'll start with that and then I'll get the other
one out the door. I'll get a nap in, walk
the dog, and then start getting ready for the show. Oh,
nothing big for this one. I mean it's like you said,
it's a Tuesday. So we'll figure out something grandiose to
celebrate with another time. I got to get through the
World Series and then and then we can ponder it.
Speaker 3 (48:53):
Well. Happy, happy birthday. Thank you, appreciative of all the
work that you provide. I want your Flex and Fox
Sports Radio. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (49:03):
I appreciate you guys.
Speaker 3 (49:04):
Proud to be your friend and co worker, and hope
you have a great birthday.
Speaker 2 (49:08):
I'll make sure we leave an extra donut in the
or whatever treat I end up bringing in Tuesday night
in the studio for you.
Speaker 3 (49:15):
Oh. I appreciate that. Absolutely, yeah, absolutely so all right,
that'll do it here. Let's let Mike go celebrate and
you can get on run the rest of your day
for Ian, Roddy and the birthday boy, Mike Carmen, I'm
Dan Byer. We will talk to you next time here. Oh,
and happy birthday Christine.
Speaker 2 (49:34):
Yeah, Christine, you talk to you next time.
Speaker 3 (49:36):
And I want your flights
