Speaker 3 (01:01):
You think about this for a second.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Yeah, judging by what we saw Nick Sirianni deciding I'm
not gonna punt the football with thirty seconds left, I'm
gonna go for it on fourth down. I'm gonna give
the Packers a chance to kick a field goal and
tie the game.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Does he need to be investigated?
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Whoa, whoa, whoa whoa.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
I mean for having titanium.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
I mean, because that's an expensive mettal where he's got
a wheelbarrow those things out there to just say I'm
going for the judglar. I don't know that that's titanu.
I think it's just stupid. I think it's just stupid.
Punt the football, punt the football win the game. Oh,
I mean, look, sometimes people really love the temp fate
in their lives. I mean, is this a good idea?
I mean, I'm using famous Saturday at Live skit. I
(01:48):
am right, Hey, I'm gonna go do this Like nah,
you probably don't want to. I'm glad he made it
interesting for us because it was one of the worst
football games you'd ever want to see.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
No, it was not good.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
It was awful.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
We've been in a run now of Thursday Night Broncos Raiders,
which was probably one of the five worst games of
the year when it's all said and done, Tonight, which
is probably one of the five worst games of the
year when it's all said and done, and now Thursday,
we're getting Jets Patriots, which I guarantee if you be
one of the worst games of the year when it's
all said and done, Oh, you gotta just sell the
hell out of Drake the greatest thing ever. Let's look
(02:21):
at the MVP candidacy of Drake manout on Thursday.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
It's just not gonna be fun. Man, what's the end?
Speaker 1 (02:29):
Yeah, what's the nc double A or NBA slates under?
Let's talk some hockey, shall we?
Speaker 3 (02:35):
Maybe this is where.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
The NBA decides, Hey, we're going to uh uh a
flexible schedule some games. Hey we got Nix Pistons on Friday,
let's play that on Thursday. Hey we got probably his
Spurs again, Let's put that game on Thursday night. Friday,
move Lakers Thunders from Wednesday night to Thursday. Yeah, well
I would do that in a second. You're gonna, I mean,
(02:58):
more people would watch that. I'm sure Thursday we only
have three matchups. You got Toronto, Cleveland, Indiana, Phoenix, Jalen
Green out six weeks. Yeah, that's not in Atlanta, Utah. Yeah,
none of no Trey Young, none of those games are
good for anybody. Wow, that's awful. What do we got
on what can we push up from Friday?
Speaker 3 (03:14):
Ticket?
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Wait?
Speaker 1 (03:15):
Wait, get this tickets for those three games. What do
you think the highest one is? Of those three games?
The highest one Toronto, Cleveland, Okay, Indiana, Phoenix, eh Atlanta,
Utah twenty five dollars ten dollars. Wow, ten dollars for
the game in Cleveland or in Utah.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
You can go to the Phoenix game for nine bucks. Wow.
I like that. How about that? Never thought you'd see it.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
Hey, there's three game one of them's gotta be nope,
trash Thursday night. Go see any NBA game you want
for ten dollars. You have ten dollars, go see any
and you want to. You're gonna spend three times to
five times as much to park. Yeah, that would that's
gonna be. Yeah, that's gonna be said that. That's the
next great road trip that would be able to go hand.
Go see a game for today to Phoenix. We have Friday,
(04:05):
Miami and New York Okay, Okay, Philadelphia, Detroit, those are
both good ones. Yes, it's all right, Okay, Golden State,
San Antonio, Yeah, Carby back you got Wemby any of
those games. Move those games up to Thursday. We don't
need we need all these games on Friday moved to Thursday,
just like the Thursday game, that Golden State and San
(04:25):
Antonio game.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Guess where that is?
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Prime Lakers thunder.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
Laying you know what?
Speaker 1 (04:40):
That can and you can stream. Let's let's just well
it streams anyway. But I would say maybe just internet
only for the uh, for the Jets and the and
the Patriots. Like you, I can follow along on Twitter.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Who's the guy live streaming this from his seat? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (04:59):
I mean really, we are in a net You know,
players can slump, coaches can slump. Networks are in a
slump now, man, network slump. This is a this is
a prime time uh uh network and streaming slump we
are in right now.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
This is a big slump.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
I do appreciate the run though that the take I
had with the all the streaming fun from last week
is really starting to take off. Uh yeah, well we're
lamenting this. Meanwhile, buy this uh to stream everything you want? Yeah,
it's fun with all this. I just keep thinking of
that thing from The Simpsons when hey get the get
the crusty doll and you pull the string and says,
(05:36):
buy my cereal. Buy my Cereal. Buy my Cereal by
ESPN by YouTube Buy Espn, Buy my Cereal, Buy my Cereal. Yeah,
this is a tough week, man. You got to get
in there and really have to sell the hell out tough.
We here's some great Drake May highlights. Man, No, no, no,
I don't want that Henderson highlight in there. That doesn't well, okay,
Drake May. Look at the handoff to Henderson, Look how.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
Great he was.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
I'm trying to look now and see if there's any
prop bets on fourth down deep pass by Jalen Hurts
with less than a minute left to go? Was there
a prop bet I could have had on that?
Speaker 4 (06:10):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Bet I could have had on that. I'm sure we
could find it somewhere. You might might have a low limit,
but you might get it there somewhere. I'll tell you
there's my not the Major League Baseball today. Hello, this
lie crazy man. We will have more on that story
coming up in a few minutes, but just here with
the with the Eagles and the Packers, right. We talked
a few minutes ago about how there's very few contenders
that I can trust because they could put up a stinker,
(06:33):
and teams that have trouble moving the football, right, that's
the big thing. I could put up a stinker and
we have trouble throwing the football. Eagles, Packers, Bills, all
teams we thought, hey, these teams are great, but man,
we have trouble moving the football and you shouldn't. But
with these quarterbacks, they have trouble moving the football. So okay,
(06:55):
these teams all had bad weeks this week.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
We all think, you know, the.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
Eagles won, We forget me the Eagles one. It's like, yeah,
but they still stink. As rough as this is for
the Eagles because you wonder about them long term. Are
they a team that can hold up during the playoffs
when having this kind of trouble scoring? The Packers obviously
you say the same thing. Can you hold up? This
is the third stinker this year they have had. It's
been a bad time for a team that's supposedly this
talented offensively bad weeks, yeah, but by far and away,
(07:21):
not nearly as bad as the Bills, who had the
worst week of any team in the NFL. Going along
with the Packers. This game tonight that was so bad.
Nobody had as bad a week as the Bills. I
feel bad last week. On Friday, we talked about teams
that I expect the next month to take off and
show themselves to be the best teams in the conference. Boy,
I feel really good about the Rams.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
Rams are taking off. We're the best team in the NFC.
They just need to bring back that Elton John version
of ran it.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
The Bills and what happened to them against the Dolphins,
a team that's basically just trying to make it to
the end of the season, for them to not be
able to score, I mean, that was That's the biggest
whoe game of the week. That's the biggest whoa. What
the hell happened in this game? And why the Bills
had the worst week than anybody, because this is the
(08:08):
week that put Brandon Bean GM and head coach Sean
McDermott on the clock where this season ends badly, And
by badly, I mean with the Bills not getting out
of at least the second round of the playoffs. Both
those guys are getting fired because for Brandon Bean, it's
gonna be you didn't get us a wide receiver.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
Hey, they brought in McCole hart. What are you talking about?
Speaker 1 (08:29):
You brought it in next Jet. But the failure for
the Bills to get a wide receiver because you saw
they couldn't throw the football. Dalt Kakid got hurt early
in the game yesterday.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
He was becoming your Number one.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
The Bills couldn't throw it, they couldn't run. The failure
of getting a wide receiver is gonna be laid squarely
at Brandon Bean's feet. And the failure of not being
able to win in a year where all the other
contenders are having problems, that's gonna be on Sean McDermott,
and it's going to be is he the right guy
for the back half of Josh allen career? Is he
the right guy to Are we sure that Sean mcderbott
(09:04):
is the right guy because we've given him all kinds
of opportunities to cut through with Sean, with with Josh Allen,
we've got him different mix it, wide receiver, different mcdown.
He's got a star running back, one of the best
running backs in the NFL. We've had great defenses, we've
had under achieving defenses. We've had defenses that figure things
out midway through the year. You've had everything for these guys,
and still if it's not enough, guess what man giants
(09:27):
to be looking for a head coach. Bill'sill be looking
for a head coach in a GM because they're not
gonna waste the back half of Josh Allen's prime with yeah,
we think this is gonna work. No, the wide receiver
thing is gonna gonna get the GM fired and not winning,
and another playoff failure is gonna get Sean McDermott's not
a B two C guy. He's an A to B guy, clearly,
(09:47):
but he's not a BA two C guy. And you're
not gonna waste the next three four five years of
Josh Allen's career saying yeah it me Sean mcderbtt will
get it done. Like that's why this was such a
bad week for them more than anybody else, because they're
unnoticed now. The Packers, okay, we're still trying to figure
things out. For the Eagles where the champs we won.
For the Lions a little bit more sense of an urgency,
but at least we know they can score points. But
(10:09):
for the Bills, it's, hey, man, if this doesn't work,
we got to start over again, because it's they can't
be another year of hey, you know we win the
AFC and when the AFC East is usually terrible, and
now they may have to go through the wildcard route
because the clearly the way the way the Patriots schedule
shakes out, it doesn't get any tougher the rest of
the way. They might wind up skating to like fourteen
(10:30):
and three, and guess what, the Bill's got to go
on the road when the playoff cames on.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
That's not happening, man.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
This was the The Bills had the worst week of
any team in the NFL by far. Yeah, I mean,
we talked about it their roster construction long ago. I mean,
and Josh Allen at some point you can't put the
Superman cape on every week, and right now he's not right.
You're at three hundred and eleven rushing yards. He's behind
Patrick Mahomes in that category as rolled through. Still seven touchdowns,
still dangerous. You know, the as good as I once was.
(10:59):
Go to Keith Line and he can still do it
on occasion, but you don't want him carrying the ball
fifteen times a game when you talk about your receiving core.
Dalton kin Kaid's a good guy down the seams, but
we've watched him have to leave myriad games with injury
and hasn't been a consistent option in terms of availability.
Khalil Shakir he's a great, dependable wide receiver between the twenties,
(11:22):
but he's not a guy that you say, go get
it and that you're gonna target ten to twelve times.
You don't have that guy on the roster. I joke
about Mikola Hartman because yes, he's the next guy they're
bringing in. Kean Coleman appears once every three or four
games where he'll make a spectacular play. It's like that's
the guy they envision to become the number one, but
(11:43):
he disappears just as quickly as he.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
Come on the screen.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
Currently, for the division, you're looking at New England at
a minus two to twenty five implies about a seventy
percent implication that they're going to win the division.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
The Bills are.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
At plus money for the first time as I can remember,
it's been a long ass time in that division. They're
plus one eighty five. Jets and Dolphins are at five
hundred one yere. Yeah, so you got that going for you,
but it's one of those It was a division game
potential for danger and eight Chan rips off two massive runs,
(12:16):
but you were down sixteen nothing. You're down sixteen nothing
to a team that was left for dead. Whether you
believe it or not, he was evasive and kind of
squarely as McDaniel will be. As to whether he went
towards that Buffalo Bills bar the elbow room to troll him.
That's a hundred percent him in that car. That is
not CGI, that is not AI. I truly believe he
(12:41):
is that man. I'll retweet that at Swollen Dome for
all of that. But it's they rose up to a
made had an interception early, had a big throw late,
you had Jalen Waddle had himself another solid game. And
the Bills are still a top ten defense in terms
of scoring defense, given up fewer than twenty two points
per game. But offensively, they don't have that dynamism. They
(13:03):
don't have that explosiveness where they're gonna run away and hide.
So yeah, it's now put it in the balance. And
to your point with New England, their remaining strength to
schedule is less than four hundred like by far the
worst schedule in the National Football.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
League to navigate.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
Does that mean they can win in the playoffs? Maybe not,
but they're gonna win the division at this rate. Yeah,
I mean, look, bad week for a lot. Nobody worse
than the Bills when you put a clock on your
front office and head coach, Yeah, that's a bad week.
That's a bad week.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
Can we just promote Joe Brady now and be done
with it?
Speaker 4 (13:35):
All?
Speaker 2 (13:36):
Right?
Speaker 3 (13:36):
You now at the Keys of the Kingdom? Did I
have another wide receiver? And now there's nobody out there
and I signed Jerry Rice? Doesn't matter? Could we could
have got Tyler Lockett? At least he caught like six
passes last week.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
He alyas run down like he's a good target, not
a game breaker. Don't say anything people I play fantasy with,
listen to the show, and I'm gonna try to want
to pick up Teller Lockett.
Speaker 3 (13:56):
I really liked him. I liked him before this week.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
Yeah there he was dely Hey he's number one. No, totally,
don't tell you abody that exit out bouta Frasca exit.

Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
At lot. More football coming up in a few minutes.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
But look the story today that really surprised all of us.
What's going on in the MLB gambling scandal that has
seen the pitch rigging case evolving. Former guardians closer Manuel
Classe and Luis Ortiz just blow up in a way
(15:32):
none of us expected it to right now. This has
been a big story for a while that these two
pitchers have been on the radar for rigging pitches to
help people win prop bets. The first pitch of the
inning is going to be a ball. The first pitch
of the inning is going.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
To be here.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
And there's evidence for Class A and FO tees that
they have helped people associates in their native Dominican Republic
win prop beds based on pitches they threw. So the
you know, the best part of today, by the way,
was how one prop bet didn't come through because Class
was supposed to throw again according to report, throw the
(16:07):
first pitch way outside the strike zone, but Andy.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
Pa has swung at it.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
It's funny.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
He showed up in my timeline for two different stories
today and that made me laugh. That's my favorite thing
is that this shows you why they call it gambling,
because he's supposed to throw the pitch low and it's
in the dirt. It is a pitch, it's not even close,
and it's supposed to be a ball, and that's supposed
to win one hundred thousand dollars for it for the
guy who bet it, and instead Andy Pa swings.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
Swings through it. Yeah, I saw him.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
He showed up in another story with a target run
where someone asked for a picture with him, and he
was buying some basketball cards and some boxes of slim jeins.
But yeah, the fact that he was bad ball swinging
after what you watched in the playoffs and World Series, like, yeah,
I see that.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
There it is.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
This is a story that this is why I love baseball,
and this is why baseball has always done the best
job policing itself for the better part of the last
one hundred years. When it comes to, hey, what do
you do when a guy throws at somebody else? Well,
the bench is clear, the bench is empty, and then
the balloon pops and the temperature comes down at the end.
(17:12):
Baseball is always policed itself really well. And now they're
policing a really big deal better than anything could be legally. Okay,
because you think about this for a second, Right, what
do I always say whenever something comes up really in sports,
but outside of sports, that becomes a moral dilemma for us.
(17:32):
Sometimes when it gets into sports, sports solves it. Oh
I didn't see that, but wow, sports solves that. Right,
And again the last ten twelve years, we've seen so
many different instances of that. Well, here's sports is involved
in this now and sports has an answer for it,
except for the hunk of metal thing Rob Manfred. Sure, sure,
But the big question coming off of this tip pitch
(17:57):
scandal right that we've seen with major League Baseball and
Class A and Ortiz have been under investigation for this
for a long time.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
What do you do? How do you stop this and.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
All the doom and gloom scenarios you've seen with gambling
over the course of the past couple of weeks. How
do you do this? This is the tip of the iceberg.
It's gonna get even worse. How do you figure things out?
Who do you blame so much doom and gloom with gambling?
This is what you're gonna get. It's not gonna stop here.
This is where sports solves problems for us. So the
(18:26):
indictment against these two, they face a possibility of sixty
five years behind bars for this. Now, do you need
any more.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Inference? Do you need any more.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
Detail on why not to do this and how this
is something that players will back away from any more?
Impetus is the word I'm looking for, than to see
that if you get caught, you're gonna lose your career
and you could go to prison for a long time.
Now is this sixty five? But this is what they're facing.
I don't think you need anything more. You have to
worry the books, the sports don't have to do anything
(19:07):
more other than make sure everybody knows here's Emmanuel Classe.
Twenty six year old closer was gonna make tons of
money over the course rest of his career. The guy
was unhita bull at times. Oh guess what we found
out exactly what you were doing because we can find
out prop bets because the way you're gambling. Yeah, we
found out what you were doing. Now you are losing
your career in your mid twenties cause they're gonna he'snna
be banned from baseball and never get to play again.
(19:29):
He's done, he's done. You're gonna get that and potentially
go to prison. How many guys are gonna say, yeah,
I want to help my friends out for you know,
a quick fifty grand or ten grand I want to do. No,
that's all you need is to show them this. That's
all you need. All the worries about oh, sports books,
there's gotta be meetings in it. No, just show people this,
Show athletes this every spring training, every beginning of training
(19:50):
camp in the NFL. You just do a slide show.
Let me show you about Emmanuel Class. Everybody know who
he is. Raise your hand. If you don't know, rays
your hand. Okay, here's the thing ging this guy. It
is terrific in Major League baseball for a long time.
Twenty five years old. He's on course to make over
one hundred million dollars in his career. Ching here he
is deciding I'm gonna help some friends out by fixing
some prop bets.
Speaker 3 (20:11):
Nor manual.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
Class is right now chit ching orange jumpsuit in prison,
never playing baseball again. Do anybody else need to know
anything else about about prop bets for anybody basketball in
anything else basketball?
Speaker 3 (20:24):
Bet we good? We go with that. Okay, good, you
go with that.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
Everybody in the NBA go to that Major League Baseball
manual classe. Okay, great, This is all you need. This
story is all you need. Oh yeah, the old this
is your brain. This is your brain on drugs and
it's a Friday egg and all that. Any questions that
might have helped in some regards here when you have
big penalties, right, Ortiz appeared in federal court granted his
(20:46):
release here with the conditions, we can take your passport,
you're restricted to the Northeast, and you had to post
a five hundred thousand dollars bonds, so fifty thousand of
it secured. They agreed to a number of US sportsbook
they're going to establish a nationwide two hundred dollars betting
limit around prop bets right individual pitches, and some of
(21:09):
these bets won't be included in parlays and all of that,
so those are still going to be parsed out. But
it's something we talked about with Todd Ferman, our Vegas insider,
used to work at Caesar's, you know, took us behind
the curtain, and it's something we've talked with him about
for years when he joins us, and it was, you know,
really deep diving stuff when you talk about the means
(21:33):
and the coordination and the passing on of information. Right
when they would see an irregularity, they would contact the conferences,
the schools, the teams, the leagues, whatever it was pro
or collegiate to say, hey, here's what we're seeing now.
It might not be anything, but enough to at least
be on the radar of, hey, you probably need to
(21:55):
talk to your athlete in question, and in this case
there was enough of it and through the use of video,
because all of this is out there now you can
piece it together and we certainly see it whenever there's
questionable decision making coaching wise, player wise, all all the
way through Dick Sirianni going for it on fourth down
when he should be punting the football. Is that potentially
(22:15):
illegal or is it just seas an idiot? It's not
against a lot of been my client's an idiot.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
I mean, it's it was a regular My client's an idiot.
Speaker 1 (22:26):
It's not idiot, that's right, but it's it's that kind
of thing to where you go through and that information
is out there. And certainly sports books have always been
doing this to some some level, some degree, and certainly
I'm sure in these years there's a lot of handwringing.
Now it's like, oh, the betting's fruit. It's always been there.
Like what's happening here is good and everybody needs to
(22:49):
triple underscore that.
Speaker 3 (22:50):
Stop the holier than now thing betting was gonna happen.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
Now what may happen is this goes some of it
goes back underground. But guess what you'd rather deal with
the sports books saying hey, I'm charging an extra two
hundred bucks against your credit card, then Rocko showing up
to collect the bets, which is what the old world was.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
And maybe that's where some of this goes back.
Speaker 1 (23:11):
But you've got to be adults about it, like people
are gonna bet, and here's the checks and balances are
showing that it's working. Does it mean that it's the
end of this No. To your point, you're talking about
giant impediments and giant consequences. Here's the jumpsuit, here's he
gets his yard hour in the yard whatever, those things
(23:32):
that get parsed out, you know, in terms of the
information and how you want to put that out there.
But recognizing there is an issue and putting these guys
and holding them to these statutes right when you're talking
about state to state and interstate commerce and all of
these things, Yeah, that's what you do. Federal and state
(23:54):
charges come through, and yes, you're gonna have a lot
of guys going, I'm not risking my future. Hey, mose
Roco helped the judge finance checkbook. Well, yet, look it's
it would be worse, and think about it, it would
be worse if we didn't hear anything on it, right,
Like we had to Ferman on Vegas Insider when the
(24:14):
first NBA aspect of this drop, right, the Chauncey billups
aspect and and he said, listen, this is the way
it's supposed to work.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
Right.
Speaker 1 (24:21):
We've been in Vegas a long time, Insider, Odds maker,
when this hat, look at look at how it's working.
They found this. It was a sting operation for a
better part of a year, and look what they found.
Are there other guys doing it? Okay, now they're on
it right, But this is how it's supposed to work.
It would be worse if you just didn't hear anything.
I mean, it's nice to walk around and go yeah,
I can whistle through a graveyard and go yeah, everything's fine. Look,
(24:43):
no one's coming up, and I thin meanwhile, all this
kind of illegal stuff is happening, or the tentacles of
it are starting to feel its way out there that
there's some tests. Well we can do this. Now, let's
try to do this. Oh, we can do this. Let's
try to do this right. I'm gonna leave this game
with an injury. I'm gonna throw the first pitch in
the dirt, right, let's try.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
To do that.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
The fact that this stuff is getting caught is good, right,
It's acceptable for the leagues that know they know there's
going to be some sort of collateral damage, but so
far what's happened, this has all been acceptable for them
because this is showing what we're doing is working. And honestly,
the worst thing is if we didn't hear anything, then
you know, none of us are doing our jobs right,
because there's always going to be the bits of information
(25:23):
that are transmitted casually and without the assumption that it's
being used for ill conceits right that you know we're
just talking about basketball. I'm a basketball player, but you
might be grabbing some information because we're just having a conversation.
I know you tangentially through a buddy whatever. I don't
(25:43):
know that you're immediately going to a sports book. And
I'm not saying that all players are naive that that
might not happen, right, I mean that that might be
part of what these conversations are. And that goes back
to the poker games and the people that are seated there.
There's a lot more to it, Like we're not all
cut the babe in the woods routine kind of thing air.
(26:04):
But the reality is that the checks and balances are
there too for that flow of information, and the sportsbooks
take this very seriously. We're talking about gaming licenses. We're
talking about millions upon millions of dollars of potential fraud.
We talked about the the largess the billions of dollars
being bet legally. Again, there's a lot of shadow money
(26:26):
and maybe it forces some of it underground, and that's fine,
and that's fine because that was always going to be
there regardless. Now it's just the flow of information and
the potential of huge penalties. Players and coaches will think twice, yeah,
I mean that's sometimes you just have to show a deterrent.
That's it, right, And that's what One of my favorite
episodes of the West Wing was when Bartlet and Leo,
(26:50):
President and chief of staff, they wanted the president to
be able to do something and they were worried that
if you say this, you're going to have to continue
to hammer this point haul if you want.
Speaker 3 (27:00):
To get this law passed. I forget what it was.
Speaker 1 (27:02):
And the chief of staff tells, press just got to
do something bold once, and he says, what do you mean.
He says there was a game early on in Bill
Russell's career where there were some whispers that Bill Russell
was a little soft and you could really dominate him
in the low post, and you could be able to
have your way with him. Even though we so talented,
you can still get you. You could still have your
(27:23):
way with him. And he decided that all I gotta
do one time on national television is throw an elbow,
and I'll never have to do it again. And throw
an elbow on national television and never had to do
it again because everybody saw it and said, WHOA yet
to know what you're telling me about Bill Russell. But
he threw a huge elbow and clocked that guy. I
can't do that. You put out here, here's a manual
(27:45):
claus a who is going to lose his career and
go to prison. You can take care of the rest
of it. Sportsbooks can work a little bit with leagues
that go, okay, we don't need to be putting out
these prop bets on some of these things.
Speaker 3 (27:57):
We can save.
Speaker 1 (27:58):
We talked about that, right, yeah, right, the secondary you
can say prop bets for the star players, like you know, hey,
Jalen hurts passing yards or Saquon Barkley rushing yards like
okay that but like for one guy where hey, one
or two plays is gonna flip it one way or
the other.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
You don't need that.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
So there's some stuff like that can happen. But all
you need is this and continue to keep this story
front and center. And here's here's what's going on with
Class A. And he's he's the the poster poster child
for all of this. Yeah, you get banned from the
from Major League Baseball and you go to prison. You guess, okay, hey, sorry, guys,
can't do it. You saw what just happened. Man not
doing it. But the other thing is by putting in
(28:33):
these low limits, if you got someone that's suddenly fishing
for two hundred dollars here two hundred dollars and they
know something's up right, it's gonna get flagged that because
that it seems like an innocuous number. But that's why
it's like, you you limit your losses. But if someone's
going and fishing for a line on a first ball, uh,
you know that some chicanery is afoot. Exit up out
(28:54):
of Frasca, exit swalling down the Jason Smith show with
my best friend Mike harmon Time how to find out
what's trying to in the wide world of sports. But
guy has been called the Bill Russell of Fox Sports
Radio because I said it aren't you Bill Russell and
he says no, and he goes, I mean the infielder.
Speaker 3 (29:09):
Oh yeah, that's me. It's Steve Desager.
Speaker 6 (29:13):
There we go, Philadelphia Monday Night football winner at green
Bay ten to seven. Jalen Hurts one TD pass, one fumble,
Saquon Barkley twenty two carries sixty yards plus he had
three catches for forty one yards. Eagles led three to
nothing early fourth quarter, temperature about thirty degrees in Green
Bay and the first half seven punts total and seven penalties.
(29:35):
Packers punted on the first four drives and fumbled late
first half from quarterback Jordan Love. The Giants fired coach
Brian Dable, but general manager Joe Shane stays. Giants this
year have held double digit leads in four road games
that ended in losses. Tablele as a former Bills offensive coordinator,
Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow hopes to return on Thanksgiving for
(29:56):
a game at Baltimore he's on ir with a toe injury.
He returned to limited practice today. Washington head coach Dan
Quinn is taking over defensive coordinator duties. Also, Washington's lost
five straight. They'll play in Madrid this Sunday against the Dolphins.
In the NBA late game six minutes to go, Atlanta
leads the Clippers in LA ninety two to eighty six.
(30:18):
A lot of excitement in the Association. Tonight, Detroit in
overtime beat Washington one thirty seven, one thirty five. Wizards
now one and ten despite forty two points from c
J McCollum. The Pistons tied it at the end of
regulation on a three pointer. Won at by two ot
Cad Cunningham forty six points, twelve rebounds, eleven assists. Cunningham
(30:40):
was fourteen of forty five shooting from the floor. Orlando
at home beat Portland on a three pointer at the
buzzer one fifteen, one twelve over Desmond. Baying the hero.
Beating Portland, he had been oh five from three point range.
Miami at home an overtime winner against Cleveland won forty
to one thirty eight, winning on an alley oop. Duncan
the buzzer. Lakers now eight and three after winning at
(31:02):
Charlotte won twenty one to one eleven thirty eight points
for Luca Donzig, thirty eight for Victor wimban Yama, and
the Spurs win at Chicago won twenty one one seventeen.
Spurs record eight and two. Milwaukee won at Dallas one
sixteen one fourteen as the MAVs, now three and eight,
missed a couple of late free throws. Giannis Antenacumpo thirty
points in victory. Minnesota got thirty five from Anthony Edwards
(31:24):
in a win at Utah. Phoenix got forty two points
from Grayson Allen an easy win over New Orleans, which
is two and eight. The new number one team and
men's college basketball is Houston. Purdue dropped to number two
despite having more first place votes the rest of the
top five, Connecticut, Duke and Arizona, which beat defending champion
Florida last week. In men's college hoops, Tonight, Northwestern three
(31:47):
and oh after ripping Cleveland State FS one had Santa
Clair's easy win at Xavier. Fifteenth rank UCLA was only
up by five at the half against West Georgia, but
the Bruins beat him eighty three sixty two.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
Season that where.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
What's his name was playing in Chad Powers, West Georgia.
Speaker 4 (32:07):
I think that's raised the quarterback any directional school, that's
always that sign. In college basketball just ended on FS one,
a top ten women's matchup in Sacramento went to UCLA
over Oklahoma seventy three to fifty nine. In the NHL's
late game, Florida winner at Vegas three to two Edmonton
and overtime beat Columbus Islanders in overtime one at New Jersey,
(32:30):
which was eleven and four. This year, Rangers a six
to three winner against Nashville and the Big MLB Award
results continue this week. Managers of the Year tomorrow. Today
it was Rookies of the Year and the American League
Rookie of the Year from the a's Nick Kurtz, a
guy who batted two ninety with thirty six homers. He
was drafted fourth overall from wake Forest just a year
(32:50):
and a half ago, and he gets all thirty first
place votes. Today, a shortstop Jacob Wilson finished second. The
National League Rookie of the Year is Braves catcher Drake Baldwin.
He won a twenty one votes to nine. Finishing second
was Cubs pitcher Kate Horton, who went eleven and four
this season. Baldwin had nineteen homers eighty RBIs Bett at
two seventy four. He was a third round draft choice
(33:13):
from Missouri State in twenty twenty two, and the Giants
have hired former manager Bruce Bochie as a special advisor.
His former catcher there Buster Posey is San Francisco's team president.
Speaker 1 (33:24):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve ol Coming up next
to Got More Football on the Way, We break down
the biggest story of the day and tell you why
one NFL head coach doesn't have a job anymore. That's next,
Jason to Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (33:39):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (33:47):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
You know, all day.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
Peoplemen offering up reasons why was Brian Dable fired as
Giants head coach?
Speaker 3 (33:59):
Right?
Speaker 1 (34:00):
And I get it, Well, there's one reason was it
for this one row? Well, it really always just comes
down to one reason.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
They stink.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
But you know listening.
Speaker 1 (34:11):
You know this ran a promo a couple of months
ago with Colin Coward playing a Tim Hasselbeck comment about
all the you know, hey, Matt Hasselbeck, Sorry, Matt Hasselbeck saying, hey, listen,
Daniel Jones success played into it. Uh, you know the
the loss to the Broncos played into it. Jason lock
and Ford told us that earlier tonight, and really, I
can make it simple and this is what cuts through
(34:32):
and take this for tomorrow, because I'm sure people will
take this for tomorrow. Why did Brian Dable get fired? Yes,
not going for it on fourth and goal when they
could have gone up two touchdowns in the fourth quarter
was the final straw that broke the camel's back, right.
That was the last of the embarrassing losses. Things that
happened where the Giant said, you know what, we got
(34:54):
to move on, right, Why are you not going for
it on fourth and goal from the half yard line
when you're.
Speaker 3 (34:58):
Two and seven?
Speaker 1 (34:59):
If if you're seven and two and you're six and four,
guess what everybody's gonna say. I trust the head coach's decision.
He trust the defense to go out and win that game.
When you're two and seven.
Speaker 2 (35:08):
Why the hell not? Why the hell not?
Speaker 3 (35:09):
Right?
Speaker 1 (35:11):
So that was the final straw that got Brian Dable fired. Now,
why it's the middle of the season. Giants aren't going anywhere.
Jackson Dart has proven to be really good. Brian Dabele's
your head coach, right, and Jackson Dart's proven to be
really good under Brian Dable. He's thinking, I'm saving my
job right now. Joe Shane the GM has still saved
his job. I'm feeling pretty good. But Dable gets fired.
(35:33):
Why the Giants the Steelers, for the most part, are
the two most heritage teams in the NFL that have
the reputation of we always do things right. We are
upper crust, we are elite, we are one hundred years
of history and heritage.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
Right.
Speaker 1 (35:52):
Cowboys are a clown show with Jerry Jones. They were
at America's team for a while, but it's a clown show.
But the Steelers and the Giants look the families being
close to each other. They enjoy that reputation. Hey, we
are the Steelers, we are the Giants. We do it
better than everybody else. You don't always win, but we
do things the right way. The Giants don't like to
(36:14):
be embarrassed, and for Brian Dabele, this was you've embarrassed
us one too many times. You want to go back.
We had Daniel Jones. Things were pretty good, but it
didn't turn out well. We moved on from Daniel Jones. Well,
now guess what that embarrasses us because he's gone to
Indianapolis to become an MVP candidate. And the Colts have
(36:37):
the best record in the AFC. So that's embarrassing. Losing
coming back this season or we're going into last season.
We're gonna move on from Saquon Barkley. I don't know
about that. Well, we're moving on from Saquon Barkley. Well,
and what do you hear from the owner? I don't
want him to come back and in our division and
bite us in the s that'd be awful. What happens
(36:57):
Saquon Barkley goes to the Eagles in the division, they
win the Super Bowl. Embarrasses the Giants. Now this season starts, okay,
Jackson Dark comes in great, he's pretty good, but you've
blown four fourth quarter leads. The Bronco lead embarrassing as hell,
because no one blows leads like that in the fourth
quarter where the Broncos scored seventy five points in the
(37:17):
fourth quarter to win that game. Really embarrassing, worst blown
lead of the year. Embarrassing for the Giants yesterday against
the Bears. We had the game, we blow it. We
blow it against the Bears, another big heritage team in
the NFL. That Hey, we like to think to do
things right front of yours. They don't, but we like
to think we're that way. And all the attention on
the Giants blowing another game, the Giants simply got tired
(37:40):
of you're not gonna embarrass us anymore. We don't like
to be embarrassed from the owner all the way down.
We're not gonna be haha. Look at the Giants and
Brian Dable embarrassed them one too many times. So yeah,
he gets fired.
Speaker 3 (37:55):
Now.
Speaker 1 (37:55):
He could have stayed on until the end of the year.
But the Giants are saying, we guys still got half
the season left. We don't want there to be two
or three more times where you're laughing at the Giants
the rest of the way. We know we're not going
to the playoffs. We've already seen three times been laughing
at US this year. The medical tent thing was so
embarrassing for Brian Dable. Really it should have been a blit,
but it was embarrassing.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
What are you doing?
Speaker 1 (38:15):
You can't be in the medical tent. That was embarrassing
on national TV. The Giants were embarrassed. They don't like
being embarrassed. It was one too many times they said,
before this happens again, we're getting.
Speaker 3 (38:25):
Rid of you.
Speaker 1 (38:25):
Yeah. I mean they've done plenty of that to embarrass themselves,
but it's by their own choice. The fact that you
know how many coaches are we at since Tom Goughlin
walked away, mcindo, Spagnola, Schumer, judge, Dable and now Mike
gaff judge more people would give him, give more benefit
of the doubt.
Speaker 3 (38:44):
Well, even if he dropped the ball and he's got
a chance to.
Speaker 1 (38:48):
Oh, very deebed and confused. But at twenty and forty
record to your point about the field goal, they could
have taken it off the board because they would have
had the too many men on the field penalty that
would have moved at half the distance. You know, I
(39:09):
gotta trust Russell Wilson to navigate it. But you've made
that decision by Putt Russell Wilson. Again, you're two and seven,
what you go for it?
Speaker 2 (39:16):
But that's the point. But that's just it.
Speaker 1 (39:18):
You got a chance to kill one of the field
good stories of the year.
Speaker 2 (39:22):
You know.
Speaker 3 (39:22):
Remember even in that Denver game, they scored thirteen points
in that quarter.
Speaker 1 (39:26):
That's how miserable that quarter was. It's not like they
got shut out and run over. No, no, no, they still
scored twice. Yeah, and still I had that absolute failure
of collapse. The the math as some folks have done,
it was these fourth quarter collapses would equal up to
a one in sixty thousand or sixty thousand to one.
Speaker 3 (39:46):
I should say, Oh, I love it. We all of
these things.
Speaker 1 (39:48):
Now, when collapses happened, there was a there was a
less than point six percent chance up really, so there's
point less than six percent chance.
Speaker 2 (39:56):
Of all these things that it all happen.
Speaker 3 (39:57):
But I like that.
Speaker 1 (39:58):
I mean, look, math as you go do it. I mean,
you know all these conversion of circumstances. I don't know
about that math. I think that math as you like
to say, fuzzy math. It could be fuzzy math. Either way.
It's a terrible convergence of circumstance, and when you add
it all up, the blue Tent, the number of times
Jackson Dart has found himself inside said blue tent, and
(40:19):
all of these other fails.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
You're twenty and forty. You're done.
Speaker 1 (40:22):
Now here's Kafka with an opportunity to try to run
with it. It's pretty easy. It's pretty easy. Some some
organizations aren't going to suffer that. The Jets suffer that
every week. It doesn't matter where the Jets, Giants don't
do it.
Speaker 5 (40:36):
That.
Speaker 1 (40:36):
He hates to see George McCaskey celebrating stuff too, So
you know, coming up next we get back into the
biggest story coming off on Monday Night Football Fox,
