Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Hello, Welcome in side our three, The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harton.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Well Dressed Hobo live for the Fox.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Sports Radio studios, where you're seeing teams punch their tickets
or basically punch their tickets depending on losses tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
That can be a little more dramatic. All right, that's good.
Speaker 5 (00:47):
You just wanted to say punching tickets.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
But the team has done enough to punch its own ticket.
Now it just has to wait for another team to
punch another ticket to see if the punching of the
ticket actually happened.
Speaker 5 (00:59):
Well, if they had lost that pesky game back in
week two, sure, yeah, all those and it doesn't matter,
right if you hadn't get a loss to the only
I don't want to say real team but for the
purposes of this conversation, Yeah, right, the way rankings and
the perception of it all works, some are created more
equal than others. Right, let's go to the old animal
(01:20):
farm shot. I think when you lose my two touchdowns
to Louisville in your one big game of that, you
know scope that's gonna stick out, that that that puts
you in the Hey, we only got a fifty five
percent chance. You gotta wait for a lot of other
things to happen.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
I mean, James Madison winning tonight, winning the Sun Belt.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
They're ranked twenty fifth.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
If Duke somehow upsets Virginia to Mark and let's be honest,
it would be a I think the point spreads a
little bit closer than the outcome of this game is
going to be. Virginia is a pretty good team, and
I know that we fall in love with the romanticism
of Hey, if Duke pulls this big upset, we want chaos.
Virginia is gonna win this game tomorrow. Right, Virginia is
(02:04):
one of the best. They've been pretty solid all season long.
Duke has lost five games, right, yes, and and and
you know, look, you know what I think many d
has one of the best defensive coaches in in college
football and figuring out n I l wise the offensive
side of the ball. But you know what when when
I hear him say, hey, all the teams we lost
to were good teams. Okay, that doesn't that doesn't mean
you're good like that this team.
Speaker 5 (02:27):
This is day three of the coaching coaching uh retreat
that we'll have with all the clock management whatever. The
other is how to sell your school. Yeah, we only
lost to the good teams by a little bit. No, no, no,
let's let's let's punch that up a little bit. Right.
It's like it's like all those games that Kansas City's lost,
(02:48):
they're still losses.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
Yeah, yeah, I mean, look, I understand you're trying to put.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Yeah, look, we we we we We lost to Illinois,
and we lost to Georgia Tech, and we lost to Virginia. Already,
you know the teams we lost tore all top seventeen. Yeah, okay,
but you didn't beat any teams that were Those are
the three best teams you played, and you.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
And you're able to beat them.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
All the teams you've beaten there, I mean, they're all
the rest of the teams are all just yeah, look
like wake Forest was eight and four, okay, but wake
Forest finishing in the bottom half of the ACC, right,
Virginia is a pretty good There's a reason why they're
at the top of the ACC where they were seven
and one in conference. This is you know, this four
point spread. I really I would be very surprised if
(03:29):
Duke wins tomorrow and suddenly causes chaos and we're deciding
Duke or or James Madison for the college football But we.
Speaker 5 (03:35):
Got a guy named Mensa. It's getting after it.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
Come on, well, that is true. That is true.
Speaker 5 (03:39):
Very smart, very smart, very smart. Mensa and Shepherd your
leaders here, But you know the other.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
Of course, Shepherd has to be a leader. If your
name is Shepherd, you're a leader.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
That is right.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
You have no choice.
Speaker 5 (03:51):
That's kind of why I said it, mister Helper. But
I mean we can talk. I mean, James Madison, Hey,
I'm going to UCLA, but look I'm still here, no drama. Yeah, hey,
look at me. I can coach my guys. And meanwhile,
you're you know, flipping the bird. Billier is coming in
(04:13):
this door eventually, but not today, not today.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
Who's there? It's billion Napier. Nope, who's there. It's Willie Bapier. Oh,
let me open the door for you.
Speaker 5 (04:25):
He oh no, No, one was my favorite.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
One was Avon. Oh Avon is here? So two big
stories in the NFL. Uh, two more games to break
down here we got we got more from Vegas coming
up in a few minutes. You know what is Vegas
thinking about the games tomorrow and Sunday? But we got
word today, No Kyler Murray for the rest of the
year for the Cardinals. They play the Rams on Sunday.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
And look, the.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
Cardinals, despite despite Jacobe being at the top of like
every passing metric, they can't win. They're terrible. So look
the Rams get back on. I'll be the most un
guy in the world if that happens. But what we
said about a month and a half ago, when it
looked like Kyler Murray was getting shut down, what do
(05:18):
we say we talk about being.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
Ahead of the curve.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
Kyler Murray's played his last down for the For the
Arizona Cardinals, they've seen the best of him. They know
they need to go forward in a different direction.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
And you saw that.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
When you're getting the same kind of production from Jacoby
Brissett that you're getting from Kyler Murray. What are you
paying Kyler Murray for? You got to get out from
under that money and start over again again. It's not
like all of a sudden, he's gonna be great, Like
guy's gonna be thirty right now. Doesn't mean he's not
gonna have a value elsewhere, because this is not an
exciting year for a crop of quarterbacks and teams that
(05:51):
are in that mode of, hey, we're not gonna pick
quite at the very top of the draft, or we're
not gonna move up to that, like we're not sold
on Fernando Mendoza, were not sold on whoever else you
want to you want to take up at the top.
You know, look, Ty Simpson's falling down after it looked
like he was gonna be a top pick.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
So it's it's a it's a.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Very difficult needle to thread. But if all of a
sudden you're Arizona and you're floating Kyler Murray out there,
suddenly Pittsburgh, the Raiders, maybe even the Jets depending on
how things go, If they're not big on Fernando Mendoza.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
Uh yeah, guess what, man, Uh.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
You're gonna be able to get out from under his
contract and someone else will take him. He's a playmaker.
We've seen him, actually, we've seen him play league average
to a little bit better than league average quarterback, which, hey,
a lot of teams would take. But in Arizona you've
seen enough, and and you're at the point where if
you bring Kyler Burray back again, you just have apathy
(06:49):
with the team and the fan. Not that Arizona is
not built to have apathy in the fan base anyway,
but just I mean, really, you can only bring bring
a team back and send a message out that hey,
the future is for so long before everybody starts to
cut bait on it and they move on. You talk
about disinterest in the team, you're talking about the team
itself going, we're gonna try to make it work again
with a guy that has trouble staying on the field
(07:11):
or producing. Hey, he's probably more attractive to another team
that's never really had a quarterback or has tried to
find one for the past three or four years, which
is why teams like the Jets and the Steelers and
the Raiders will be up there going, hey, he's still
better than anything we would have and we'll take a
chance at him, and it's not his whole contract we
have to worry about. So yeah, he's gonna have that.
But he has absolutely played his last game. We said
(07:33):
it when it happens, is why we say ahead of
the curve, right, we say when it happened. This is
a last game he has played for the Arizona Cardinals.
Like we talked about this week, Giannis may have played
his last game with the Milwaukee Bucks. If he is
out a month and he is going to get traded
with a calf strain, nobody wants him on the court
if you're gonna trade for him, Like I wouldn't be
surprised if he is out and he stays out until
(07:54):
they figure out a deal. Now, it's only two months
until the deadline, but he's gonna be out a month.
Do you really think he gets back on the court
now and play. He doesn't need to prove to anybody
get back on It's hey, we want to make sure
you're healthy. We get your update, we get your medicals,
you're on, you're seeing our doctors now and we're good.
Do we feel good about making this trade for you
because you're gonna have to go up a lot for him.
(08:15):
So yeah, just like you can see the future with Giannis,
maybe that's the last game he played for Milwaukee. We
told you a month and a half ago, last game
Kyler Murray played and not clearly is what's gonna happen.
Speaker 5 (08:25):
Yeah, I mean, you look at a guy played his
five games, sixty eight percent completion rate, six yards per attempt,
So that's the number that stands out, only a seven
for his career, seven average yards per attempt. Not pushing
the ball downfield with regularity. Would have been interesting to
watch this offense if it was fully together with the
Kyler Murray at the helm, right, Marvin Harrison Junior having
(08:47):
missed enough time, James Connor to the ir early on.
Although you've gotten some decent returns at times from Den
Mercado and Bam Knight along the way. But you know,
just that curiosity Michael Wilson being healthy, uh, and obviously
our guy uh McBride. But you know, when when we
look at you know, Kyler Murray's run, it's been a
(09:09):
lot of starting stops for his career, two touchdowns per pick,
a ton of sacks, a ton of injuries. Uh, and
it really becomes the question going forward if he's not
able to run. It's like we talk about with Lamar
Jackson in his evolution. Some of these other players go
back to Cam Newton, I think is the guy that
we we hold up most frequently is as soon as
(09:31):
that superpower is diminished, right, someone's got some kryptonite in
the building, or you know, the injuries pile up to
where you're no longer getting to the edge, playing like
your hair is on fire and making throws downfield. You're
just a guy, right, and when everybody else's special, no
one is.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
Yeah, syndrome, baby, let's go.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
Yeah, you would, but you know, sometimes your hair looks
like syndrome. It does when you come when you take
your like if you've been wearing like a nights when
you wear a wool hat into work and then you
take your hat off when you come in.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
It's very syndrome mess.
Speaker 5 (10:05):
Now, that's it.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
Very central.
Speaker 5 (10:06):
I may or may not have been compared to him
in the past, maybe for some of my attitude, I
don't know, but all of that for Kyler Murray, Look,
how many how many teams need quarterbacks? As you laid
it out, and we talk with Pete futech when it
wasn't SEC related and it was just general quarterback related.
(10:28):
There's nobody that stood out as truly special and transcendent,
right the We're not slapping the haphazard jackassery of generational
on any of these guys, right, We're not doing that.
This is the year where it's you're gonna find value
and go find the guy you want, and not necessarily
the bargain bin, but you don't have to go reach
(10:49):
up with a bunch of picks and craziness to go
find them. Here for Kyler Murray, it becomes the all right,
we think we can go harness the guy that was
a top ten pick in baseball and football and fit
him in a system. And this is where we get
into our offensive geniuses looking around, going yeah, I could
fix that. I can work with that. I can design
(11:09):
an offense that makes sense with that. And we talk
about his statue, we talk about the injury history. We've
talked about red zone efficiencies and inefficiencies of ability to
make plays at times, because I don't want to be
the highest as a short fire plug of a man myself,
(11:29):
but let's call it what. It is a lot easier
to discern what's going on in the middle of a
crowded field that's six three sixty four than it is
at the six feet that he's scraping to. Right, Let's
just call it what it is. But so, there's plenty
of teams in the marketplace though, that will take the shot,
and especially if they don't have to be on the
(11:50):
hook for an exorbiting cost a one year trial deal. Yeah,
he'll get signed up for that easily.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
Now, a Big Bowl prediction, I'm gonna get you for Sunday. Okay,
it's but it's not about the game.
Speaker 5 (12:03):
How about about the game DeVante Adams does not score
a touchdown?
Speaker 1 (12:08):
No, it's a huge game by Davante. That's all they
do is sort of Davante Adams. He's like the new
Chris Carter.
Speaker 5 (12:13):
Who doesn't He's like Jerome Bennis when he was five
to one in three stat line all those years ago
and just became a goal line bulldozer.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
If the Bengals beat the Bills on Sunday, and that's
kind of a tall order, right, it seems like a
tall order.
Speaker 5 (12:31):
Five and a half fifty three and a half the total.
Speaker 4 (12:35):
But Joe Burrow is back.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
If the Bengals beat the Bills, they win the AFC North.
The Bengals look, their record is terrible, but the rest
of the division is terrible. They're two games behind the
Steelers and the Ravens. Now, if they tie, one of
them is good. Here's the thing, if they tie, if
they tie, six and one of them is going to
win this week, right, obviously the Steelers or the Ravens.
(12:59):
But there's still five games left. As long as the
Bengals win, they win this game. They have an advantageous
schedule down the stretch with the teams in front of them,
which they have already beaten Burrow is back. They are
the best team on paper of all three of those teams.
Not only do the Bengals win the AFC North, they
(13:20):
haven't clinched before the final game of the season.
Speaker 4 (13:22):
Wow, I will get But.
Speaker 5 (13:24):
The playoffs, can they make a run back to Sofi
so I can see those people in the parking lot again.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
I mean, it's a must, and it's gonna it's it's
they did it to themselves. Obviously, losing to the Jets
does it to you. But the couple of times where
the Bengals you say, wow, man, they really needed that game,
had they just had one more game, and I understand that,
but they don't. So now that they're back to the wall,
like like Sunday is their season. But neither Pittsburgh nor
Baltimore are any good. Right, But Pittsburgh's offense is not
(13:54):
gonna get better. Lamar Jackson is hurt and he's not
the same, and now you're adding injuries more than your
solving injuries for him over the course of the past
couple of weeks. The Bengals, on paper, they have the
best offense, They have the best team. If they beat
the Bills on Sunday, they win the AFC.
Speaker 5 (14:10):
No, how about that at plus eight fifty as we
sit here today, to win the division are the Bengals
and obviously the games in Santa Claa. I'm looking at
playoff matchups trying to get him back to the Chargers
and then so far eventually, but t Higgins very excited
to get back on the field. Currently, the Ravens have
(14:31):
a sixty six percent implied winning percentage. So so there
you go.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
Get ready, I just made Bengals fans field. God, think
about that.
Speaker 5 (14:41):
Offense field, right. Chase Brown's been fantastic the last five
or six weeks, Tamar Chase trying to recover some of
those early season magical points to Higgins. There, Yeah, it's
it's gonna be a fun run. You look at their schedule,
certainly some opportunities.
Speaker 4 (15:00):
Exit out bout a Fresca exit swalling down.
Speaker 1 (15:02):

Speaker 4 (16:16):
Big Football Friday.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
The first Domino of Conference Championship weekend is fallen. James
Madison beats Troy, snowballs and all So now e's on
the ACC Championship tomorrow Virginia and Duke. Maybe James Madison
squeaks into the playoff again. They have a ninety nine
point nine percent chance of making it if Duke wins tomorrow.
(16:42):
This according to the All State Playoff Briain.
Speaker 5 (16:44):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (16:45):
Let's get to a human playoff predictor right now. Joining
us on the hot line. Longtime friend of the show,
Vegas Insider. He's on Twitter at Todd Furman. That is
at Todd Furman. Check him out, CBS Sports Line, TSN.
He is everywhere he is with us now, Todd, what's
(17:06):
happening man?
Speaker 4 (17:07):
How are you?
Speaker 3 (17:07):
I'm doing them all to night, gentlemen, hopefully you boys
are as well.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
So did you have did you take Troy getting the
points tonight over James Madison, because I have a feeling
you did.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
I did not get involved in that game. Was surprised
though to see that number get bet up though from
twenty one up to twenty four and a half. Although
late in the game James Madison backers, along with those
folks rooting for points, almost had their prayers answered. If
Jmu elects to try and pile it up in terms
of a couple of extra style points and take that
thirty one to fourteen margin to thirty eight to fourteen,
(17:38):
but Troy the clear right side and jam you now
will sit and wait to see if Duke can pull
off a modest upset tomorrow and Charlotte knock Uva out
of the playoff.
Speaker 5 (17:47):
Do you think with the narrative, sorry Jason, with the
narratives that the committees put out week after week, that
maybe the style points would have helped the middle.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
I think in that spot it really would have done
a whole heck of a lot. I mean, they need
one main domino to fall, and that is Virginia losing
to Duke to try and give them a pass to
the playoffs. So I don't think the point margin there
was going to play much of a role. But the
committee has kind of painted themselves into a corner to
a certain extent. But I think the ACC is the
bigger culprit. I mean, if they adopted the same tie
breaking philosophy that we saw on display tonight in the AAC,
(18:19):
we'd be treated to a matchup of a pair of
ten win teams of Virginia and Miami for the right
to go to the college football playoff. And that, on paper,
a lot more attractive from an a SEC representative standpoint
than the potential that we could have a five loss
conference champion, one who lost to Tulane earlier this year
and also has a loss at the always difficult place
to play at Renschler Field and East Hartford against the
(18:40):
Yukon Huskies.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
All Right, so Todd played out what happens tomorrow, Duke Virginia,
what happens with the playoffs?
Speaker 3 (18:47):
I think Virginia finds a way to hold serve. I mean,
this is a team that's ultra confident right now. Chandler
Morris has elevated his level of play, but over the
last month, Virginia has found its swagger on the defensive
side of the ball, which is correlated if them getting
all of their starting defensive backs into the mix, and
it's a team that you know is going to get
Duke's best shot. There's no doubt about it after they
took care of the Blue Devils, beating them by double
(19:09):
digits the first time around. But I do think Virginia
finds a way the more fascinating games that'll have a
bigger playoff impact in my opinion, what transpires in Atlanta
between Georgia and Alabama. Georgia initially took money early in
the week, but we started to see a little bit
of a buye on Alabama earlier today. So game de
facto coin flip with Georgia one and a half point favorite,
(19:30):
and I think if Georgia wins this game, they'll find
themselves in the top four getting a buye. And if
Alabama wins the game, I think they have a legitimate
case to be made to get a buye given that
they'll have swept the season series against Georgia and won
the most competitive league both regular season and of course
the postseason title as well. And then BYU Texas Tech.
Look if BYU is able to pull off an upset
(19:51):
as a double digit underdog. That is the real wrench
in the playoff picture, and it would put Miami in
Notre Dame, in my opinion, both on the sideline without
a real path to trying to get inside that top ten.
Speaker 5 (20:01):
Alabama fans still making their signs to say, even with
three losses, we should get in. As we sit here, Indiana,
Ohio State, Ohio State minus three and a half forty
six and a half the total, I'm looking at Todd
who wins and who wins the Heisman.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
I think the dog is live in this game when
you look at Indiana have a small piece plus four
and a half, not a big position by any stretch
of the imagination. But this is a Buckeye team ultra talented.
They're going to have their two best players you know
that are going to be playing on Sundays, albeit not
next year, in Carnal Tat and Jeremiah Smith. That you
mentioned the Heisman Trophy, and I think the winning quarterback
in this matchup gets a leg up. But I really
(20:37):
believe that if Ohio State wins this game and Julian
Sayan looks pedestrian and doing so, that it creates a
pass for Diego Pavia More than anybody else whereas Indiana
pulling off the upset. Knocking off the defending national champions
in the thirteenth game of the season gives Francisco Mendoza
a pass to winning the Heisman Trophy himself. Look, I
know it's narrative more than anything else, but this is
(20:58):
going to feel like an Indiana home game in my estimation,
especially when you look at the ticket prices and you
can make the case that this is the most important
football game that Indiana will play as a program, you know,
going forward with a chance to be Big ten champions
and cementa Heisman Trophy winner wearing Hoosier colors as well
in the process.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
All right, Tod, Let's head to the NFL Big Week,
Big Showdown Week. Teams trying to stay in the playoff
lount at the top of their division, the Texans and
the Chiefs. The Chiefs coming off another week where the
message was we're still great.
Speaker 4 (21:30):
All we got to do is finish in one or two.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
Plays here and there against the best defense in the AFC.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
What do you think of this one?
Speaker 3 (21:37):
In my opinion, Kansas City is like the villain in
a horror movie. Until they're dead, dead you can't write
them off as being irrelevant, and that's the lifeline the
Chiefs have given themselves even in this spot as they
come into the game at six and six, but an
opportunity to get a big win here and set up
a showdown with the Chargers next week. Look, I don't
have a strong conviction one way or another with the
(21:58):
Chiefs now being back from three out to three and
a half, but it does feel like it's a by
low opportunity, even for a team that's got a very
different looking offensive line that's going to be on full
display at Arrowhead on Sunday night. Meanwhile, the Texan stock
kind of at the top of the market. I won't
quite say it's apples to apples, but it reminds me
an awful lot of what we saw transpire last night,
where nobody wanted a part of the Lions. They were
(22:20):
backed into a corner. The Cowboys were a flavor of
the week, and Detroit reminded us why they're still very
relevant in the NFC playoff picture. I think we could
see a similar scenario unfold on Sunday night, but I
do think defense dominates today. Giving the offensive line concerns
for Kansas City and that being the strength of the
Texas team. So what we're scoring game. No real strong
opinion though on the side.
Speaker 5 (22:40):
All right, let's keep rolling with some of our thirty
two flavors. To steal from Baskin Robbins. Why is Green
Bay a six and a half point favorite?
Speaker 3 (22:49):
Because the Bears are a paper tiger And when you
look at the underlying metrics for the Bears this year,
nothing suggests that they're even a top ten team in
the NFL, despite what their win loss record says. But
at the same time, I'm not going to discount their
level of performance. Went on the road on Black Friday,
of course, and upset the Eagles as a touchdown underdog.
Ran the football right down their throats, and they are
getting a little bit healthier on the defensive side. We
(23:11):
saw that secondary getting some key coogs back, but still
depleted at linebacker. The receiving corp takes a big hit
with no room of dunesay, so you'd have to imagine
a bigger role for Luther Burden. And look, so much
of what the Bears have done this year has been
predicated on taking the football away. It's just something that's
not sustainable as your schedule gets to be more difficult.
I do love the war of words, though. That came
(23:32):
from Ben Johnson and his presser about how much Friday
he takes and beating Matt Lafour, and it wasn't lost
on the green Bay coaching staff. So when I look
at this game here, this is a big number for
a reason. It's a lay it or don't play a
type scenario. I think green Bay can win this game
by double digits.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
All right, Todd, let's uh man, see my card.
Speaker 5 (23:52):
He more eloquently said what I've been saying to you
for a long time.
Speaker 4 (23:56):
Arma, do you have no confidence in your team? Come on, man,
you have not.
Speaker 1 (23:59):
I believe you're going to talk to Todd Foreman after
he said that about your team.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
I mean, think of all the nice things I said
about the Jets over the decade or yeah, yeah, but
I think I can count them on one hand.
Speaker 4 (24:12):
Smith, I can count the number of Jets wins on
one hand.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
That's why it's okay, that's fair, Just like just like
Justin Field's touchdown passes.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
All right, So look at the top of the AFC
North right now, Pittsburgh and Baltimore again, not quite the
the hard hitting days of the past where you're going
to get some kind of bone jarring day. Instead, we
have a diminished Lamar Jackson, a diminished Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
What do you think in this one?
Speaker 3 (24:41):
This one feels a little bit more like a pillow fight,
but someone is going to have to emerge and win
the division. A far cry from the defensive Juggernauts that
you alluded to in the past. But history has told
us that this is historically a very close series. And
if you have the opportunity to bet the Steelers as
an underdog, they've been very live. After the way Aaron
rodd kind of lashed out of his team's lack of
(25:02):
preparation and getting bullied by the Buffalo Bills last weekend,
you have to think that the Steelers We're going to
bring their lunch payal and have a much different mentality here.
But on the flip side of things, look, raven Stock
is at the bottom of the market. We saw them
close a seven and a half point favorite last week
on Thanksgiving and lose outright to the Bengals, but turn
the ball over five times and losing that football game.
(25:22):
You mentioned a compromise Lamar Jackson and his rushing total
in terms of player pops all the way down at
twenty five and a half. I just keep waiting for
the Ravens to invent yet another lower body injury that
would allow Lamar to miss practice like we've seen over
the last couple of weeks. I do think this game,
though comes in under the total. Didn't bet at myself
and think the number is really fair at six. Should
(25:43):
be a fun game, knowing what's at stake, But these
two teams, at least the way they're currently constructed, don't
really feel like legitimate contenders in the AFC right now.
Speaker 5 (25:50):
Just keep running the ball with Mark Andrews off his
fresh contract. All right, You mentioned both the Bengals and
Bills in there. Eight Bill Bengals plus eight to fifty.
What do we say GAMC North and are they allowed
to win this game at Buffalo?
Speaker 3 (26:05):
I'm not quite sure I'm going to back the Bengals
given what I've seen, or I guess should say haven't
seen from that team defensively for the better part of
the season, although they do come in birming with a
little bit of confidence off their best defensive performance of
the year. When you look at Joe Burrow. He's been
an underdog of more than a field goal twenty one
times in his NFL career, ten ten and one from
(26:26):
a straight up standpoint in those spots, but eighteen and
three against the number. He just seems to elevate his
level of play, and knowing that the offense is going
to be a little bit healthier. Have to believe that
t Higgins will clear protocol and be out there, that
the Bengals are going to hang around and turn this
into a four quarter fight. But where I'm probably the
most confident is that the Bengals offense will do their
fair share of damage against the Bills defense a little
(26:48):
bit banged up, like their team total over a little bit,
hovering right around twenty three.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
He's on Twitter at Todd Furman. That is at Todd
Firman again. Check him out, CBS Sports Line, TSN as well,
Uh Todd as always, Buddy, Thanks a bunch, Happy Friday,
enjoy the weekend.
Speaker 4 (27:04):
We'll talk to you next week.
Speaker 3 (27:06):
You got out, gentlemen, you guys do the same.
Speaker 5 (27:07):
Hit him hard, buddy, Thanks.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
I mean, I can't believe he said that to you.
Speaker 1 (27:11):
He basically walked up to you grabbed your drink, drank it,
spiked it in your face, ripped your shirt on the
way out of the bar, and said, I'm calling your
girlfriend and picking her up right now.
Speaker 5 (27:21):
You add everything we need to happen to you that
same way. I saw it live, except for the girlfriend thing.
Speaker 4 (27:27):
But I can't believe he did that. You're you're friends
with him, You've known him for.
Speaker 5 (27:32):
A long which is why we can talk to each
other in such bold and definitive statements.
Speaker 1 (27:37):
Yeah, see, I think you're I think you're just hiding
that you're hurt right now.
Speaker 4 (27:41):
I think that's I mean, look, you hurt.
Speaker 5 (27:43):
It really just underlined very eloquently a lot of the
things I've been saying about this squad, and I'm excited. Look,
I accept every one of those wins, and I celebrate
the hell out of him. Right However, you get a
w it's a it's a hard league, with all these
games decided by eight or fewer points. We watch it
each and every week you get one or two outlier games,
(28:05):
even in ones with huge spreads. Otherwise, most games are coming,
you know, close late, just like we like them. Smith,
And with the Bears, it's been heroics in the fourth
quarter quite frequently. Does it mean that it has to end? No,
but the the six and a half, as he explained it.
I still think it's too big because I don't think
(28:25):
the Packers are any great shakes. But that's my humble opinion.
He's a better mathematician than me.
Speaker 1 (28:34):
Tom that to find out what's trending in the wide
world of sports is someone who's been called the Ben
Johnson of Fox Sports Radio. Yeah, he's not welcome back
in Detroit. I I thought you.
Speaker 5 (28:44):
Were gonna say, ripped his shirt off and was song
and all starts to smack while eating hot dogs.
Speaker 7 (28:50):
We just started December, Ben, But go ahead, have fun.
Bears wide receiver Roma Dunsa out this weekend by the
way foot injury and considered week to week. Falcons wide
receiver Drake London still out with a knee injury. Lion

achilles last night. Bill's defensive end Joey Bosa out this

Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy will start after clearing concussion protocol.
Minnesota running back Aaron Jones has no injury designation after
a shoulder injury. Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is out for
(29:56):
the year with his foot injury. He's been on injury
reserve for a month. Arizona is missing two running backs
and two wide receivers this weekend, including Marvin Harrison Junior
LA Charger quarterback Justin Herbert, with his broken left hand,
was able to practice on a limited basis again today.
The team is optimistic he can play Monday against Philadelphia.
Herbert has yet to take snaps from under center, something
(30:17):
he could not do last Sunday. Either Chargers first round
running back o Marion Hampton returned to full practice. He
broke an ankle in Week five. This Saturday night in
college football, it's the Big Ten Title game in Indianapolis,
Number two Indiana against number one ranked Ohio State on
Fox TV. Each team is twelve to zero. Number four
Texas Tech will be in the Big twelve title games
(30:39):
Saturday against BYU. Miami is still right number twelve, but
does not play this week. Instead, it's Duke in the
ACC Championship against number seventeen Virginia. If unranked Duke wins,
it's possible that two smaller conference teams make the playoff
and no ACC well. Number twenty five James Madison finished
twelve to one, taking the Sunbell Crown tonight thirty one
(31:01):
fourteen over Troy. It was seventeen fourteen with under five
minutes left in the American Conference. Number twenty two Lane
at home beat number twenty four North Texas thirty four
twenty one. It was a thirty one seven lead for Tulane.
In the third quarter. Boise State and Kennesaw State also
won conference title games. Penn State's new head coach is
(31:22):
the guy who was at Iowa State the last decade,
Matt Campbell. Already the Cyclones have replaced him. The new
coach at Iowa State is Jimmy Rodgers from Washington State.
In college basketball number eleven, Gonzaga rip Kentucky led nineteen
to two early ninety four to fifty nine the final
in Nashville, Kentucky's record five and four. The late game
in the NBA at Oklahoma City went to the thunder
(31:43):
ripping Dallas won thirty two, one eleven as Anthony Davis
of the MAVs was one of nine shooting. Oklahoma City
has won fourteen games in a row and is twenty
two to one this season. Detroit's record up to eighteen
and five after edging Portland won twenty two to one
sixteen New York. The Knicks led Utah twenty three nothing
in the first quarter final one forty six to one
(32:06):

Cleveland and Charlotte. Victories for Orlando and Boston, which ripped
The Lakers won twenty six one oh five, despite thirty
six points from Austin Reeves. LA's Luka Donsich was out
again for family reasons, but could return on Sunday. Lebron
James of La was out Tonight. Denver got forty points
from Nikola Jokic and one by one at Atlanta one
(32:29):
thirty four to one thirty three. Memphis sent the Clippers
to another loss, one oh seven ninety eight. The Clippers
record six and seventeen victories for Houston and Philadelphia and
for Indiana, which was four and eighteen, but one at
Chicago one twenty to one oh five thirty six points
for Pascal Siakam. The Bulls have lost six straight NHL
wins for Vegas and Dallas. The late game is starting
(32:52):
overtime in Anaheim Ducks tied with Washington three to three,
and US men soccer will face Paraguay and Australia next
Summer's World Cup, and then it'll face a European playoff winner.
Speaker 4 (33:02):
Back to you, thank you, Steve o Hey. For next
hour you'r update.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
I want at least three facts about every one of
those European qualifying teams, All four that they could potentially, I.
Speaker 5 (33:13):
Think we have the time. I thought he was gonna say,
I need three reasons why Mark Cooke gets to keep
his job.
Speaker 7 (33:18):
I thought you were gonna say, like three different ways
to pronounce Turkey these days that would qualify.
Speaker 4 (33:25):
Well, we're coming off Thanksgiving, okay. I thought you would
know that already. All right, thank you, Steve O.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
Jason Smith, Mike Harmon live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios.
Coming up next, we have two big NFL debuts coming
up this weekend. We have got to get into that's next,
right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 4 (33:57):
Just Jake, that puts me in the Christmas move more
than an anything else.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
I think it's not if now it's officially Christmas the
Alex tyshirt.
Speaker 4 (34:04):
It is officially Christmas season.
Speaker 5 (34:05):
Now that you've played that, I'm happy to know that
on a Friday night into Saturday morning.
Speaker 1 (34:11):
I meant that officially begins Christmas. And of course it's
cemented when we get Chewbacca silent night, like physically you're
in it when we get it. At this point, I mean,
there are so many mashups out there. I've learned him
to several this week, so there's a lot of new
content to be had. How about the new Russell Wilson
(34:33):
Jameis Winston mash up? No, the Giants are on a
bye this week, but each of the Giants backup quarterbacks
getting tryouts on TV. Yesterday it was announced that Russell
Wilson is gonna get to be on CBS now Giants
are away. It would be his next career going to
be on CBS. I will give him this advice, right
(34:55):
because this is something that, look, Russell Wilson is someone
who throughout his.
Speaker 4 (34:58):
Career has never really.
Speaker 1 (35:03):
Brought been comfortable in a controversial world, or at least
a public publicly controversial world. Uh, you gotta bring it.
You gotta absolutely bring it on Sunday. And I would
say this bring it so much like I would go
even completely opposite of Russell Wilson nano bubbles.
Speaker 4 (35:22):
I would say this guy stinks.
Speaker 1 (35:23):
This guy's because if he brings it on Sunday, this
is the only way he can really salvage the end
of his career because he doesn't want to be spending the
rest of December in a puffy coat on the sidelines
watching Jackson dart Right. It's so sad that that's how
it's gonna end for Russell Wilson. But be so good
that that CBS says, hey, wait a minute, Uh dude,
(35:44):
you're not really playing anymore. Jamis is the second string
quarterback in New York. You want to come and hang
with us, and uh, you know you can end on
an upswing. That's kind of how Boomerisiasin did it right.
He came back, he played for the Bengals, he had
a really great last like five weeks. It was all,
we're gonna bring you back in sign. He's like, Nope,
go on to CBS. I'm leaving on a high note.
(36:05):
And he went after he played a couple of great
games at the end with his last run in Cincinnati
and went. Now, he's been on TV for thirty years,
So I would say, Russell Wilson, bring it and hope.
CBS says, hey, do you want to come do it now?
You can retire from the NFL, be on TV on Sunday.
Bring it, Russell Wilson and you can you can salvage
the end of this season.
Speaker 5 (36:24):
And you bring up a boomer Us hyacon No. I
think we've seen enough little snippets of Russ through the years.
There's there's some quirkiness, there's some potential chaos here. I
like this, depending on what players they're asking him to analyze,
this could get get a little bit loose. I mean,
this's the guy that gave us video from his bed.
I mean, I don't know what to expect.
Speaker 4 (36:43):
You know, I agree, you know what I mean.
Speaker 5 (36:45):
Like he had that office corner office for a reason.
He was cooking up some big acts. So I think
there there's an opportunity here for it to be quirky enough.
I don't know that you're gonna get hot take nonsense,
and certainly the critical approach to it. I don't think
I'll you know, we're getting to the standing there, like
(37:07):
he's Leo DiCaprio with the flamethrower kind of thing here.
But I think there's enough to his personality that people
are going to tune in and they're going to be engaged.
Now emann to being the subject of great ridicule as
he's been in the past. But you know what, notoriety publicity.
It's a win for a pregame show.
Speaker 4 (37:25):
Hey can you plug my nano bubbles?
Speaker 1 (37:28):
I'll bring samples, of course for all the guys on
the second Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, can you different?
Speaker 4 (37:33):
Now?
Speaker 1 (37:33):
On fine knees, Fox says, I see your Giants backup
quarterback edition of Russell Wilson, and I raise you one
backup quarterback of the Giants and Jameis Winston. Now tell
me this doesn't have a typical move by both sides.
Here's CBS, more buttoned up, more straight lace, bringing on
(37:55):
Russell Wilson. Here's Fox full of personality and fire. Here
comes James Swinston saying, whatever the hell Jameis Winston is
gonna say on Sunday.
Speaker 4 (38:04):
Like this is?
Speaker 1 (38:04):
This is so in line and on brand for CBS
and Fox, and look, I can't wait to see Jameis Winston.
Speaker 4 (38:11):
He's gonna be amazing.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
He's gonna be odd, he's gonna be unpredictable, he's gonna
be dangerous. He may sing a song, he may sing
two songs. He may have tap shoes on. He may
wind up reenacting a scene to a movie. He may
start eating W's like real W's made out of some
sort of football. Like he is gonna be amazing on
Sunday because you know he's gonna he doesn't care. He's
(38:35):
gonna go out there and say all kinds of crazy.
Speaker 5 (38:37):
Yeah. If he doesn't roll up with a bucket of
crab legs or something, then it's really an opportunity loss.
Speaker 4 (38:43):
Like that g hands him out to everybody.
Speaker 5 (38:44):
I gotta think that the sales team there at Fox
has something cooking that night.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
He adds Terry Krabb, like Terry Branshaw, who were anybody
bring food on?
Speaker 4 (38:53):
Said before you come back, jamis you come back?
Speaker 5 (38:56):
You know what, we're gonna do an extra hour and
it's just gonna be him and Gronk like and our
guy Jay Glazer can referee and if we need him to.
Oh what we can't do? I mean because you got Fox,
so you got no place for Jackson Dart there so
he wouldn't have to go on the mini football field
and avoid Strahan or how he long. So that's good. Uh,
(39:18):
so you can send him to NFL Network or something
where he won't take a hit.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
Oh, I'm telling you, man, there are no more on
brand moves and CPS doing that what they're doing.
Speaker 4 (39:28):
And James Winston.
Speaker 5 (39:29):
Here's our counter programing.
Speaker 1 (39:31):
James Winston Mann exit albouta Fresca exit swallowed up. No,
I mean Jameis Winston's gonna be phenomenal because again he's
one of those guys no pressure, I'm gonna say whatever.
Speaker 4 (39:44):
He's gonna be entertaining. He's really gonna be something.
Speaker 5 (39:47):
What show tune does he bring out because he's already
done Hamilton.
Speaker 1 (39:50):
Well, he's got to do another Hamilton song. I think yeah,
I don't get yeah, yeah, I think.
Speaker 5 (39:54):
Maybe he does a tribute to James Madison.
Speaker 1 (39:57):
Coming up next, we get back into the Biggest Bred's
story of the day.
Speaker 4 (40:01):
Keep it right here, Jason to Mike Fox Sports Radio
