A chemical found in one of our native plants is helping people quit smoking overseas.
It's called cytisine and it's found in Kowhai trees.
It's more effective than nicotine replacement products ,and is used in European countries but it isn't approved for use in New Zealand.
Director of Action for Smokefree 2025, Deborah Hart joined Mike Hosking to explain how the chemical works.
