The Transport Minister says extending the fuel tax discount isn't an election year bribe.

It'll continue alongside half priced public transport and discounted road user charges until the end of June.

Michael Wood says it's a quick way to directly reduce cost of living pressures for struggling Kiwis.

He says the $700 million dollars it'll cost comes from Ministers saving money in their departments and from projects that may no longer go ahead.
