Local Government Minister Kieran McAnulty raised a few eyebrows after his appearance on Q&A to explain Affordable Water Reforms.

The 10 regionally owned public water entities would now report to a local representative group that was jointly comprised of council representatives and mana whenua.

Kieran McAnulty claimed that the 50/50 representation on the local groups didn’t reflect a “one-person, one vote” model, and provisions in the treaty had to be taken into account.

ZB's senior political correspondent Barry Soper says Kieran McAnulty's statements were based off what came into his mind at the time, in a move reminiscent of Jacinda Ardern in interviews.
