Canadian women’s football coach Beverly Priestman has been sent home from the Olympics in wake of the side’s 2-1 win over the Football Ferns.

It comes after the Canadians were caught using drones to spy on the Ferns’ training sessions, but Canada Soccer has revealed their use of drones goes well before Paris.

Meanwhile, the All Blacks Sevens team's chance for Olympic Gold has been dashed after losing 14-7 to South Africa in the quarterfinals.

Sportstalk host D’Arcy Waldegrave joined Heather du Plessis-Allan.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Darcy water Grave sports talk hosters of me a darcyther
Did I say to you yesterday the recidivus cheats.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Yeah, maybe I said that first, not entirely sure, but we'll.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Both be right. Look, wait, cheating Canadian jewels.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Wait, there's more. It's like a bad television commercial, isn't
it really? Hold on, if you buy two of these,
we'll give you a third cheat for free. What happens tomorrow?

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Okay, so just explain it to me. So the sent
bev BEV the coach home bef.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
The coach is gone for the duration of the Olympic game, which.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Is which is good, harsh punishment for her. But is
the team going to be docked for beating us to not?

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Not that, not that I'm aware of it. My things
may unfold, they might, but year two one, I wonder
if the drone coverage helped them when they came to
that as well. But the alarming thing here is a
great story in tars in Canada and talks about the
women's soccer team have been relying on drones and spying
for years. This is not a one off. You talk

(00:53):
about what is an article today or this is no, no,
this is one that got sent through to me by
Clay Wilson. It will see yesterday I believe it was,
or no, but you know what the dates are like,
they're still yesterday. Say so now it's extraordinarily current, it's
very recent. Has it got examples of THEMM They were
saying that the people involved, who won't give their names
because they don't want any backlash, say they've got first

(01:16):
hand knowledge of it happening before they won the gold
medal back in twenty twenty one, filming training sessions when
they played Panama. And so this goes on. This is
not something that's just turned up out of nowhere. This
is something they had. Wow, I know, so am I
not the football team? So one's been sent home, two

(01:38):
has been seeing home, Three has been seen home. I'm
not sure what happens next, but I know that winning
is one thing to be doing.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Listen, imagine if this squad goes on to be in
contention for the gold medal. You can like, how can
the Olympics and FIFA let that happen when they have
just been busted as.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Bag People say it's not fair on the players. However,
from the cheap precisely if they are, and it seems
like they are because it's been going on for years
now that well I'm sorry, Well I'm not sorry, sorry,
not sorry.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
I guarantee you they're setting them down for drone watching sessions,
aren't they.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
We're going to punish you in this guy's source, he said, Look,
you know you can find so much about this. You
can hide behind a bullsh or you can go up
in the air and use a drone, but it is
possible to get a lot of information.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
Crazy, right, Darcy, Listen what happened with the sevens team?
I mean yesterday, yesterday, Woman's yesterday again South Africa and
you were not was like seventeen to five or something
like that. You weren't impressed. Now, look they beat us.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
To talk about that. We've got a man who knows
more about sevens than I'll ever know about anything. His
name is Sir Gordon Titchens. He joins us tomight on
the program to unpack what was very unfortunate.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
Jeez, if we can't even make the quarterfinals in rugby,
what hope is there for us?

Speaker 2 (02:53):
I think that is. The men's sevens competition is extraordinarily tight.
It really is. It's a lot of very good nations
out now and now the South African's only just got
in by the skin of their teeth in a last
minute tournament to qualify, and then they only got into
this game up against New Zealand the quarter finals by
being one of the best third place losers. So they've

(03:14):
come from nowhere and they've overrun like most teams, and
seven very fit, very fast, and kept the same.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
They're going to have to get the therapists out for
our team.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Are they going to go? The next question is are
they going to go to the opening ceremony? And I'd suggest, well,
they probably should. They'd be very depressed, but they've still
got a fifth place game to play, and we know
that previously. Stop laughing, we know that previously our teams
because you're basically standing around on your todd are listening

(03:45):
to musicians and watching art during the opening ceremony, you're
exually a bit shot by the time it comes to
your game. So I'd think they probably won't go. Then
we go said because you didn't, Well, they're going to
be tired, right, But what you do around man, because.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Nobody cares about placing fifth. Darcy, thank you appreciate it.
As Darcy Watergrove Sports Store Coastal be back at seven
