Speaker 1 (00:00):
Afternoon. The woman at the center of the jeffm mc
skimmings scandal has spoken out for the first time today
and called for further inquiries into police culture. And at
the same time, the Commissioner, Richard Chambers, has appeared at
Scrutiny Week in Parliament and told Parliament he doesn't think
that police have a culture issue. Commissioner, do you think
that there is a problem with police culture?

Speaker 2 (00:18):
No, those that do fall below expectations. My expectation is
that we act on that and we deal with them.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Mark Mitchell is the policeman has stand with us now
home match, Hi here the how are you well? Thanks mate?
What do you think culture issue or no?

Speaker 3 (00:34):
So I think that there was definitely, without a doubt,
clearly a culture issue with the previous police executive. But
I also agree with the Commissioner that if you see
someone that falls below the stands of the police, then
action needs to be taken on that. Without a doubt
you would have seen him as the incoming commissioner. He's
put guard rails back up around the use of devices,

(00:54):
doing audits to make sure that there's a really clear
message throughout the whole service. The standards and integrity and
those police values are inherently so important. But the one
thing that I would say is that, yes, we had
that previous police executive that departed from those values and
clearly had a lack of integrity, you also had four

(01:16):
very senior police officers that stood up with bravery and
stuck to those police values and showed enormous integrity. And
I think that the fifteen thousand people that we have
either sworn or non sworn around the country, they more
likely reflect those values than the values of that police executive.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
So that's a noe to another inquiry.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
At the moment, we don't see the need for that
because the IPCA report was very clear, it had lots
of detail in it. That's given the police of roadmap
to work off in terms of their own internal work
and turn inquiries investigations. And we've been very clear from
government that we're going to put a Inspector General in place,
and we think that that's going to be a really
strong check and balance to try and give the public

(01:58):
the confidence they need, and we're working hard to do
that that we're taking the action required that we don't
have that happen again in our country.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Is it the case that all senior cops are now
having their Internet usage audited.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
Well, there's guardrails in place now around there's lots of
what that's going on. Absolutely, the Commissioner and the senior
team are making sure that there's a health check done
around standards and integrity.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
Why only the senior cops are not all police?

Speaker 3 (02:26):
No, I don't know if it's all senior police that
is very operational. You have does to come from that.
But I know that there's been guardrails put back in
place around the use of police devices.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Good stuff match, Thank you very much as always, Mark Mitchell,
Police Minister.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
