We'll spend the rest of the hour talking NFL. I
want all your predictions, your previews, your this, yar that. Yeah,
I'll throw out some predictions as well, but we should
go back. We should start with what was essentially the
last game of Week one of the college football season.
We do have Florida State Boston College kicking off at
seven thirty Eastern time, about two and a half hours
from now. But we had a thriller last night in

Las Vegas, Iowa. Sam, Do we have the sound of

No, it wasn't a walkoff, but it was LSU USC
top twenty five matchup, you know, And I'll say this
VJ two. We'll get to the sound in half a second.
I apologize for not up on that Iowa, Sam, But
what was crazy about that game is that, you know,
I'll tell you what. Let let's let's play the sound
of USC taking the lead spoiler alert with under ten

seconds ago, thirteen seconds left in the game, Moss with
the snap, hands off, the marks up the.

They're going wild in half of this stadium as the
Trojans are gonna pull off the upset.

How do you do?

USC wins twenty seven to twenty VJ. I'll say this,
What I think is so interesting about this game is
you could feel attention. We'll get to the Brian Kelly
sound in a minute, but I think we all had
this notion, Oh, it's the twelve team playoff, everybody gets in.
It's it's a participation trophy, and it's like, no, yeah, exactly.
That's exactly what I was gonna say, is you could

field attention in the air. And this was the game,
I think, as much as any this weekend where you
could feel there was a lot at stake for both
teams because in this twelve team playoff era, we know
that conference champions get in. So even though it Clemson
loses to George, it's not the end of their season.
But those are two teams SEC USC now in the
Big Ten, and you felt like whoever lost that one

was behind the eight ball.

You could feel the tension in the.
Speaker 5 (03:19):
Yeah, you can feel attention in the air, none of that.
It was just it was so talent like rich on
the field. That's what I loved about this game. You're
talking about the former top recruit type guys. Man, you're
talking about the best of the best, the cream of
the crop coming out of high school the last year
or two. Now, let's not forget both these programs did
just lose Heisman winning quarterbacks. Guess what, news flash, they're

pretty okay. The quarterback position on both these campuses, the
receiver position, the running back position. They had to there's
guys that are blown acls just last November. LSU's got
a running back that a blown ACL last November. These
guys out here trucking linebackers and defensive linemen from USC.
And then you got the two big and the big
names far as the two coaches go, right, you have

two guys that are their brands themselves without being part
of the school. And you got Riley coming from Oklahoma.
You got Kelly coming from Nordre Dame. And you go
to LSU and you go to USC, which is not
a step down to me. It was either lateral moves
or upper moves. I honestly think for sc is an
upper move from Oklahoma, but Nordre Dame to LSU could

be seen as a lateral, slightly upper move. But just
a great football game. Both teams play well, only one turnover,
both teams over four hundred yards are total offense. Third
down one was three or nine, the other teams five
or twelve. Like so, teams were efficient when they needed
to be. But both these quarterbacks just on point, almost
every throw, hitting the receivers in the numbers, hitting receivers

in the hands. And dare I say, Kyron Lacey, hello,
young man. I love that kid right there, man. And
of course SE's got a bunch of firepower too. But
great game. But you talk about the tension you can
feel in that building when SE scored. You know how
the camera pans to the fans, The look on the
LSU fans face it you would have thought this was
the SEC championship.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Game and we weren't, and we hadn't even hit Labor
Day yet.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Well, I'll tell you what, I was going to start
glasses half phone and talk to USC, but since you
bring up LSU, the fans were frustrated. No, who else
was frustrated was Brian Kelly. Here is what he had
to say after the game.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
We're sitting here again. We're sitting here again talking about
the same things about not finishing when you have an
opponent in a position to put them away. But what
we're doing on the sideline is feeling like the game's over,
and I'm so angry about it that I got to
(05:40):
do something about it. I'm not doing a good enough
job as a coach, and I got to coach him
better because it's unacceptable for us not to have found
a way to win this football game.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
It's ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
For those who didn't catch the game, LSU tied the
game with a field goal with under two minutes to go.
USC goes the la to the field and they were
aided by an LSU penalty which put USC on the
goal line allowed them to score that touchdown. So you know,
again we talked about the tension in the air. You
could tell this wasn't hey. We got plenty of time
(06:14):
to figure things out. Will be better next week. This
was Brian Kelly for a third straight year, losing a
season opener.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
You could feel the frustration in him.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
Yeah, not only frustration. You mentioned the penalties too, but
you have to also remember that they're up most of
this game. LSU is winning this game. They lose the
fourth quarter of fourteen to three, so right there, that's
where he's talking about. One thing Also too, I loved
about what Brian Kelly said here is that's called accountability
from a head coach. He said, we're not coaching, and
I got to do something about it. And what I

believe is means somebody's getting either some pink slips or
trust me, there were some very uncomfortable conversations on the
campus of bat doan rouge today in the office with
no cell phones and no social media and no video
between certain coaches and the headman, Brian Kelly. Because when
I hear that type of account of build, he's talking
about himself too, but he's also talking about his coaches.
He didn't blame no kids cause I thought the kids

did what they needed to do. I thought the kids
played well. What I didn't like to also the two
unsportsman like calls on LSU celebration. I thought we were
chilling on that in college football, and really I thought
we were chilling on other college football because if you
remember the one that Lacey call actually gave Branch a
chance to return that broke, So that penalty right there

kind of set USC up to kind of get good
field position, which they went and scored on. But I
thought we were chilling on this in college football and
letting the kids. I'm still seeing reps running to the
middle of guys. Dude, I'd be kicked out of school
because I throw the man. Man, get out the way
and let me do my dance. I make five hundred
God grant innil I make more than you. Let me

do my dance real quick, man, and get my extra
money that I'm trying to get. But those penalties I
thought were costly. But also the fourth quarter air and
fourteen to three big big in football when you don't
close out games.

Yeah, ten penalties for ninety nine yards against LSU to
your point, though, a couple of them pretty questionable. And again,
this is the twelve team playoff. Ear if you're looking
for a silver lining. If you're LSU, plenty of time
to get right there. Next four are against Nichols at
South Carolina. South Carolina did not look very good, Nick Cops.
UCLA Bruins. Unfortunately, I don't think you UCLA is going

to bat and Rouge are getting a win, and then
South Alabama that is before a bye, and then they
will have a bye and host Ole Miss. Ole Miss
is a top ten team, but Ole Miss hasn't won
at LSU since two thousand and eight. Real quick, Lincoln Riley,
I'll tell you you know, listen, I was one and
if people missed it, VJ and I were in for

Coveno and Rich and we actually talked a little bit
about Dion Sanders. A lot of the stuff, A lot
of the narratives feel unfair and actually frankly personal with Dion,
and it kind of I feel the same way with
Lincoln Riley. Is Listen, I understand that in the biggest game,
even at Oklahoma, the biggest games you get to the
College Football Playoff, you lost to LSU, you lost to Alabama,
you lost to George Okay, I get that, But this
(09:01):
was a guy that dominated the Big twelve while he
was there. I think it's easy to forget. He kind
of saved Bob Stoops's legacy. Like Bob Stoops had kind
of this old, boring team and they weren't, you know,
they weren't as good, and he kind of knew they
needed to change the offense. So Lincoln Riley comes in,
Baker Mayfield comes in, and they take off and it's
like he gets to sc by the way year one

has him playing to go to the college football People
forget that they were eleven and one going into the
Pac twelve Championship game. I believe they were up like
fourteen to nothing with Caleb Williams before he got hurt.
I think it was a hamstring or something like that.
But I bring it up because I just thought the
attacks on this guy were personal. I'm not saying he's
perfect as a head coach, Lincoln Riley, but I think, again,
are none of us are. And I think you could

feel again the relief from him to get this win.
You talk about a win that should give that team
a lot of confidence.
Speaker 5 (09:54):
Yeah, not only that, especially what Utah State coming up. Okay,
so they get that one, so they start off too,
and oh so it kind of quiet the boo birds
in the crowd. Right then they gotta go to Michigan.
I don't think they get that one, but then home
against Wisconsin at Minnesota and then that home game against
Penn State. Now I know there's been some good things
about Penn State this year that people say in the
offseason and think that's gonna happen. I don't foresee it

because I still just think coach Franklin is a guy
who just can't win big games. You don't get paid
in the Big Ten to beat Minnesota, You don't get
paid in the Big Ten to beat Indiana, Illinois, the Northwestern.
You get paid to try to beat Ohio State and
Michigan if you're not coaching at them schools. And if
you're at those two schools, you get paid to beat
each other and get paid to go win Bigson championships
and go win the national championship and get to the

College Football Playoff. So that game is gonna be really big.
And then after that Maryland, Rutgers, Washington. I think SC
can make the playoff.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
I really do.
Speaker 5 (10:44):
They don't have a super tough schedule this year. Nebraska,
UCLA and Norre Dame. They finished when we saw Norre Dame,
and I know they've got one of the best secondaries
in football, they got one of the best offensive lines
in college football. But they did just struggle to be
the Texas A and M team in the Altering Swamp humidity,
heat down in college station. I get it, but that

Texas A and M team is not gonna be very
good this year. I know it's just Opening Saturday. Just
told Berndy Frido last hour. I'm trying not Aaron, I'm
trying not to grab too much from Opening Saturday.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
But there's no fun. But any wait nine months for football.
They was like, I'm not gonna overreact. Why why because overreact?
Let's have fun? No, No, I wea can overreact a
little bit.
Speaker 5 (11:24):
But what we say today is gonna change Thursday night
going into Saturday.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
Well we look at today, Look the Kings look great.
Speaker 5 (11:32):
Right for two weeks from now, if the Kings go
out and struggle and Cam Warn throws three interceptions, all.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
That you guys were talking back in you know, two.
Speaker 5 (11:40):
Weeks ago, and they beat a bad Florida team, because
we agree Florida's four to eight loaded, that's a bad
football team. They lost looks good, the win looks good.
Now what's it gonna look like a month later? But
with USC they needed this win. This was big for
both coaches last night. They both needed this win because
Brian Kelly's been losing like three in a row of
his opening games and Lincoln Rowley's coming off of a

year that was just a debacle last year where his
quarterback was getting clowned for being in the crowd and
crying on his mom after a bad loss. So there's
a lot to unpack with USC. But being out here
in Los Angeles, I got no beef with the Trojans.
I'm a Michigan guy. But being that I live in
sunny Los Angeles, I have no promise seeing USC be
good other than when they pay when they got to
go to ann Arbor and play the defendant undisputed national champions.

But good job for USC. Good job by Miller Mawson. Hey,
I'm gonna tell you something, man.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
I like this kid. Sure, I like this kid. I
like this kid. He looks like a kid who's just
been waiting his turn and in the nil.

Ara And as that's so important, Aaron, if you just
wait your turn, guys, you don't always have to leave.

Grass isn't always greener on the other side, people in
all forms of life.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
Well, and that was something they talked about on the broadcast.
But I think it was a good point both of
those quarterbacks to your point. Number one number two overall
picks in last year's NFL Draft came from these programs,
Kaleb Williams and Jadon Daniels. Both of these quarterbacks competed
with those guys three years ago. Now, so two full
seasons ago, lost the job, could have left, don't leave.

And you know, Neustpyer looked good too, by the way,
I want to give him credit.

And everything was on point.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
Yeah, Miller Moss three hundred and seventy eight yards passing,
and I think it does prove at the very least,
Lincoln Riley can you know, he can develop a lot
of man and so I'm happy for us. By the way,
the big thing with USC that is also worth noting
that defense looks so much better at Deanton Lynn, the
son of Anthony Lynn, comes from UCLA.

Go across from coming from Westwood down to FIGAROA baby

I'll tell you, I don't know if it's ever like
beneficially like that had to be the moment where Chip
Kelly was like, I probably got it. The fans don't
really like me. We got no nil money. I hit
this diamond in the rough defensive coordinator. He flips my defense.
They were bad on defense, but two years ago ABS
and u CLA people forget had a top ten defense
last year. That had to be the moment where he

was like, my name, I'm gonna need to start looking
uh for for some for some other form of employment, for.

Something, for something else exactly. And you're right, chim Kelly.
People don't like you because you're not a likable it.

You share your thoughts, I'll share mine. Sam, why don't

and let's start. So for people who don't know VJ,
you are a Miami Dolphins fan. So let's start in
that AFC East. How do you think this this division
plays out.
Speaker 5 (17:29):
If our offensive defensive line doesn't fall apart like it
did start in the Tennessee game last year. We lost
three starters, not to mention that we lost Chubb on
one end, lost Phillips on the other end, Los Van
Ginkle as our rust linebacker, lost our safety Javon Holland
lost as Zavian Howard, and had.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
A defense that's still finished, who was still helping about.
Speaker 5 (17:46):
Exactly at that point right, still a top ten defense,
number ten or eleven in the league last year. I
just love what they've done with this offense. Man, a
chains back, He's a year into the process. Anthony Weaver,
defensive coordinator coming over from Baltimore. You listen to the
players they've rave about this guy, which is a big
flip from Vic Vangio last year, who left and then
tried to throw our players under the bus.

They just won a party, like, yeah, dude, that's the
old man thing. You can come up with it. Give
me the Dolphins in the division at twelve and five.
I don't believe in the Jets. I do not believe.
And if Patriots Page is gonna be one of the
worst teams in the league. I still think Josh Allen's
good enough to get the Bills to the playoff, but
I'm not sure if they're gonna make my wild card cut.
So AFC East Miami Dolphins at twelve and five over
on the nine and a half set by Vegas.

Let me say this, we talked during the break and
we talked to Bertie Fratt about this. Yep, the new
York Jets, and.

You called this them bum ass Jets. I'm intrigued, and
let me tell you why. And it's not just how
Aaron Rodgers. First of all, I keep hearing all this
stuff about the offensive line. Got a bunch of guys
in free agency drafted Olu Fashanu. Don't understand the offensive
line concerns. Let me take it a step further though.
This schedule that the Jets have, they play outside of
the division. Obviously we know that Miami and Buffalo made

the playoffs last year. Outside of the division, they play
three teams that made the playoffs last year.

Of the eleven games that they play three teams that
made the playoffs. Forty nine Ers Week one, which, as
you and I have discussed for the last three hours,
or something weird going on in San Francisco. They just
got Brandon Ayuk back. They don't know when Trent Williams
is coming back, God willing hopefully Ricky Piersoll's back soon,
but he's obviously not gonna be available for Week one.
But you get the forty nine ers and then late
in the year, yeah, the Texans at home. You get

the Rams at home, and so I just think the
schedule breaks really nicely for them. I like your Dolphins
as well. I'm a little bit more down on the Bills.
I don't blame Josh Allen. I think it's more of
a Sean McDermott thing.

He's in a hot seat. He should have made he
is in a hot seat.

I mean, I think he should have been gone last year,
but I didn't think it was going to happen once
they won the division. But I thought he should have been.

the Jets because I like the schedule and I just
I think Buffalo is gonna be down. Listen, I love
your guy to a oos not not not wishing anything

negative on him, but health has been a concern for him.

Lamar Jackson and those guys just spit up on themselves
in the AFC Championship game against the Chiefs. I don't
understand why you're the best rushing team the last twenty
four months in the world, in the NFL, and for
some reason you get in the biggest game possible and
you want to try to prove that Lamar Jackson's a
pocket passer.

Don't do that. Be who you are, unapologetically who you are.

And Derek King Henry, I don't think that he has
a thirteen hundred yard left season and zero. But you
guys remember when la Dania Thomlinson got cut by the
San Diego Chargers and went to the Jets. Those old
thirty year old, thirty one year old running backs, they
always have one little chip left on their shoulder. I
like about nine to fifty to a grand on the
ground because Lamar Jackson's gonna run for eight some change.
I think you have some backups there that will also

do really real Mitchell will be back this year from

last year, they just spit up on themselves and things
just fell apart. But injuries had a lot to do
with it also, too, and I think they rebound from that.
I'm not high on the Texans as much as everybody

else is. People have to remember, go back to Week
eighteen last year, fourth and one, the Indianapolis Colts at home,
decides to throw a ball to a flat in the
flat to a full back. Guess how many targets he
had up until that point all season, ladies and gentlemen,

has been taken care of. I think Jerry should have

but should have manned up and fired Mike McCarthy a
year ago. I actually think he should have fired him
before last year. But that's neither here nor there. It's
not what he does though, It's not what he does.

Team is a mess offseason noise. I have the Eagles
winning the NFC East as well. Let's go to the

very intriguing NFC North number one. Big Caleb Williams is there.
Green Packers obviously coming off a great season. The Detroit
Lions are your reigning NFC North champs.

I'm gonna go with the Lions, even though I want
to pick the Packers, but the Packers haven't shown me
enough they are going to make the playoffs. I really
was in love with the Vikis until JJ went down.
I do not believe in Sam Donald. I didn't believe
in Sam Donald was with the bum ass Jets. I
didn't believe in Sam Darnows with the Carolina I didn't
believe when it was at USC, I always just saw

an average quarterback. I never even saw a good one.
Now I'm going to be proven so right when it
comes to Sam Donald, because they if we as weapons.
Good lord, there's no excuse for you now, mister Donald,
I just don't think he gets it done. Give me
Detroit there put a Green Bay a closed second. But
Detroit just has so many weapons, man, And I really
like when daan Keble's done there.

This is kind of the last year. Most of those
guys are on the rookie contract. Some of the guys
have agreed to extensions, but they don't kick in yet.
This is kind of the window for Detroit right now.
I got them winning the NFC North, Let's go to
NFC South. I call it intriguing, but it's not.

No, no, it's not because this was easy for me.
It's the Atlanta Falcons. You get Judawn down there. They
have one of the best secondaries, they have one of
the best safeties, and all the football mark my words.

Had to kind of fill out his rookie year a
little bit, but I think he's got it now. Whether
it's Kurt a Weather, it's Pennix, I think they're fine
at the quarterback puisition. Drake London, Kyle Pitts, they have
weapons all around, They have a really good offensive line,
have a top ten defense, and the division isn't very well.
I think the Bucks can push them. And I've always
loved Baker, but Baker's like a one good year than

one okay year. One good year, the one okay year,
he said, the one good year, and I think he
has the okay year now this year. Give me an
Atlanta Falcons. I think you can win this division at
nine and eight, but I'll give them ten and seven.

I will say this is that when I look at
the NFC South, I'm a little down on Atlanta one.

I just I'm just not a Kirk Cousins guy.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
But I also don't you feel like there's a little
something weird with the Michael Pennick stuff, like draft him,
but then you shut him down. He looks good and
there's something and by the way, and Kirk Cousins clearly
is not happy with that. So I don't love Tampa,
you know. I don't love Tampa for the same things
that you do. I like Baker as a dude, but

he is up and down. But here's the bottom line
is that nine and eight won this division last year.
I think nine and eight will do it again. Go
ahead and give me the go ahead and give me
the Tampa Bay Bucks to win this division. Let's go
out to the NFC West. We've teased it a few times.

And I love him too, man, I really want to
pick a surprise because this is all going kind of chalk,

I'm telling you about this football team had a lot
of Andrews last year. It was on the cusp of
winning that game up in Detroit and the playoffs and
should have got that thing done. But Samas is good,

still has too many weapons. Brock perty is still gonna
be an MVP candidate. They have the number one running
back in football, the number one left tackle of football,
a top ten, a top three excuse me, tied in
Brandon Nyuk.

Yeah, a top ten receiver and who wants some of
d both Samuel and then the defense you talk about
Warner and in those two safeties they got back there.

five here, and I think twelve and five gets the
division done for the Niners.

have a great offseason, but they got the deal done
that they needed to get done. They got CD done.
Dak's gonna play on this deal. I'm questionable about the

running back position, but when you got a seventeen we
got fifteen hundred yard receiver, and you had a forty
five hundred yard quarterback who led the NFL in pass
completions last year a percentage, excuse me, who led the
NFL in touchdown passes last year. Dak.

at the first couple of games at Tampa, New York
Giants at home the Bengals, we still don't really know

USC wins twenty seven to twenty VJ. I'll say this,
What I think is so interesting about this game is
you could feel attention. We'll get to the Brian Kelly
sound in a minute, but I think we all had
this notion, Oh, it's the twelve team playoff, everybody gets in.
It's it's a participation trophy, and it's like, no, yeah, exactly.
That's exactly what I was gonna say, is you could
(02:55):
field attention in the air. And this was the game,
I think, as much as any this weekend where you
could feel there was a lot at stake for both
teams because in this twelve team playoff era, we know
that conference champions get in. So even though it Clemson
loses to George, it's not the end of their season.
But those are two teams SEC USC now in the
Big Ten, and you felt like whoever lost that one

was behind the eight ball.

You could feel the tension in the.
Speaker 5 (03:19):
Yeah, you can feel attention in the air, none of that.
It was just it was so talent like rich on
the field. That's what I loved about this game. You're
talking about the former top recruit type guys. Man, you're
talking about the best of the best, the cream of
the crop coming out of high school the last year
or two. Now, let's not forget both these programs did
just lose Heisman winning quarterbacks. Guess what, news flash, they're

pretty okay. The quarterback position on both these campuses, the
receiver position, the running back position. They had to there's
guys that are blown acls just last November. LSU's got
a running back that a blown ACL last November. These
guys out here trucking linebackers and defensive linemen from USC.
And then you got the two big and the big
names far as the two coaches go, right, you have

two guys that are their brands themselves without being part
of the school. And you got Riley coming from Oklahoma.
You got Kelly coming from Nordre Dame. And you go
to LSU and you go to USC, which is not
a step down to me. It was either lateral moves
or upper moves. I honestly think for sc is an
upper move from Oklahoma, but Nordre Dame to LSU could

be seen as a lateral, slightly upper move. But just
a great football game. Both teams play well, only one turnover,
both teams over four hundred yards are total offense. Third
down one was three or nine, the other teams five
or twelve. Like so, teams were efficient when they needed
to be. But both these quarterbacks just on point, almost
every throw, hitting the receivers in the numbers, hitting receivers

in the hands. And dare I say, Kyron Lacey, hello,
young man. I love that kid right there, man. And
of course SE's got a bunch of firepower too. But
great game. But you talk about the tension you can
feel in that building when SE scored. You know how
the camera pans to the fans, The look on the
LSU fans face it you would have thought this was
the SEC championship.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Game and we weren't, and we hadn't even hit Labor
Day yet.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Well, I'll tell you what, I was going to start
glasses half phone and talk to USC, but since you
bring up LSU, the fans were frustrated. No, who else
was frustrated was Brian Kelly. Here is what he had
to say after the game.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
We're sitting here again. We're sitting here again talking about
the same things about not finishing when you have an
opponent in a position to put them away. But what
we're doing on the sideline is feeling like the game's over,
and I'm so angry about it that I got to

do something about it. I'm not doing a good enough
job as a coach, and I got to coach him
better because it's unacceptable for us not to have found
a way to win this football game.

It's ridiculous.

For those who didn't catch the game, LSU tied the
game with a field goal with under two minutes to go.
USC goes the la to the field and they were
aided by an LSU penalty which put USC on the
goal line allowed them to score that touchdown. So you know,
again we talked about the tension in the air. You
could tell this wasn't hey. We got plenty of time
(06:14):
to figure things out. Will be better next week. This
was Brian Kelly for a third straight year, losing a
season opener.

You could feel the frustration in him.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
Yeah, not only frustration. You mentioned the penalties too, but
you have to also remember that they're up most of
this game. LSU is winning this game. They lose the
fourth quarter of fourteen to three, so right there, that's
where he's talking about. One thing Also too, I loved
about what Brian Kelly said here is that's called accountability
from a head coach. He said, we're not coaching, and
I got to do something about it. And what I

believe is means somebody's getting either some pink slips or
trust me, there were some very uncomfortable conversations on the
campus of bat doan rouge today in the office with
no cell phones and no social media and no video
between certain coaches and the headman, Brian Kelly. Because when
I hear that type of account of build, he's talking
about himself too, but he's also talking about his coaches.
He didn't blame no kids cause I thought the kids

did what they needed to do. I thought the kids
played well. What I didn't like to also the two
unsportsman like calls on LSU celebration. I thought we were
chilling on that in college football, and really I thought
we were chilling on other college football because if you
remember the one that Lacey call actually gave Branch a
chance to return that broke, So that penalty right there

kind of set USC up to kind of get good
field position, which they went and scored on. But I
thought we were chilling on this in college football and
letting the kids. I'm still seeing reps running to the
middle of guys. Dude, I'd be kicked out of school
because I throw the man. Man, get out the way
and let me do my dance. I make five hundred
God grant innil I make more than you. Let me
(07:46):
do my dance real quick, man, and get my extra
money that I'm trying to get. But those penalties I
thought were costly. But also the fourth quarter air and
fourteen to three big big in football when you don't
close out games.

Yeah, ten penalties for ninety nine yards against LSU to
your point, though, a couple of them pretty questionable. And again,
this is the twelve team playoff. Ear if you're looking
for a silver lining. If you're LSU, plenty of time
to get right there. Next four are against Nichols at
South Carolina. South Carolina did not look very good, Nick Cops.
UCLA Bruins. Unfortunately, I don't think you UCLA is going

to bat and Rouge are getting a win, and then
South Alabama that is before a bye, and then they
will have a bye and host Ole Miss. Ole Miss
is a top ten team, but Ole Miss hasn't won
at LSU since two thousand and eight. Real quick, Lincoln Riley,
I'll tell you you know, listen, I was one and
if people missed it, VJ and I were in for

Coveno and Rich and we actually talked a little bit
about Dion Sanders. A lot of the stuff, A lot
of the narratives feel unfair and actually frankly personal with Dion,
and it kind of I feel the same way with
Lincoln Riley. Is Listen, I understand that in the biggest game,
even at Oklahoma, the biggest games you get to the
College Football Playoff, you lost to LSU, you lost to Alabama,
you lost to George Okay, I get that, But this

was a guy that dominated the Big twelve while he
was there. I think it's easy to forget. He kind
of saved Bob Stoops's legacy. Like Bob Stoops had kind
of this old, boring team and they weren't, you know,
they weren't as good, and he kind of knew they
needed to change the offense. So Lincoln Riley comes in,
Baker Mayfield comes in, and they take off and it's
like he gets to sc by the way year one

has him playing to go to the college football People
forget that they were eleven and one going into the
Pac twelve Championship game. I believe they were up like
fourteen to nothing with Caleb Williams before he got hurt.
I think it was a hamstring or something like that.
But I bring it up because I just thought the
attacks on this guy were personal. I'm not saying he's
perfect as a head coach, Lincoln Riley, but I think, again,
are none of us are. And I think you could

feel again the relief from him to get this win.
You talk about a win that should give that team
a lot of confidence.

Yeah, not only that, especially what Utah State coming up. Okay,
so they get that one, so they start off too,
and oh so it kind of quiet the boo birds
in the crowd. Right then they gotta go to Michigan.
I don't think they get that one, but then home
against Wisconsin at Minnesota and then that home game against
Penn State. Now I know there's been some good things
about Penn State this year that people say in the
offseason and think that's gonna happen. I don't foresee it

because I still just think coach Franklin is a guy
who just can't win big games. You don't get paid
in the Big Ten to beat Minnesota, You don't get
paid in the Big Ten to beat Indiana, Illinois, the Northwestern.
You get paid to try to beat Ohio State and
Michigan if you're not coaching at them schools. And if
you're at those two schools, you get paid to beat
each other and get paid to go win Bigson championships
and go win the national championship and get to the

College Football Playoff. So that game is gonna be really big.
And then after that Maryland, Rutgers, Washington. I think SC
can make the playoff.

They don't have a super tough schedule this year. Nebraska,
UCLA and Norre Dame. They finished when we saw Norre Dame,
and I know they've got one of the best secondaries
in football, they got one of the best offensive lines
in college football. But they did just struggle to be
the Texas A and M team in the Altering Swamp humidity,
heat down in college station. I get it, but that

Texas A and M team is not gonna be very
good this year. I know it's just Opening Saturday. Just
told Berndy Frido last hour. I'm trying not Aaron, I'm
trying not to grab too much from Opening Saturday.

They was like, I'm not gonna overreact. Why why because overreact?

with USC they needed this win. This was big for
both coaches last night. They both needed this win because
Brian Kelly's been losing like three in a row of
his opening games and Lincoln Rowley's coming off of a

year that was just a debacle last year where his
quarterback was getting clowned for being in the crowd and
crying on his mom after a bad loss. So there's
a lot to unpack with USC. But being out here
in Los Angeles, I got no beef with the Trojans.
I'm a Michigan guy. But being that I live in
sunny Los Angeles, I have no promise seeing USC be
good other than when they pay when they got to
go to ann Arbor and play the defendant undisputed national champions.

But good job for USC. Good job by Miller Mawson. Hey,
I'm gonna tell you something, man.

like this kid. He looks like a kid who's just

those quarterbacks to your point. Number one number two overall
picks in last year's NFL Draft came from these programs,
Kaleb Williams and Jadon Daniels. Both of these quarterbacks competed
with those guys three years ago. Now, so two full
seasons ago, lost the job, could have left, don't leave.

And you know, Neustpyer looked good too, by the way,
I want to give him credit.

And everything was on point.

Yeah, Miller Moss three hundred and seventy eight yards passing,
and I think it does prove at the very least,
Lincoln Riley can you know, he can develop a lot
of man and so I'm happy for us. By the way,

that defense looks so much better at Deanton Lynn, the
son of Anthony Lynn, comes from UCLA.

If our offensive defensive line doesn't fall apart like it
did start in the Tennessee game last year. We lost
three starters, not to mention that we lost Chubb on
one end, lost Phillips on the other end, Los Van
Ginkle as our rust linebacker, lost our safety Javon Holland
lost as Zavian Howard, and had.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
A defense that's still finished, who was still helping about.
Speaker 5 (17:46):
Exactly at that point right, still a top ten defense,
number ten or eleven in the league last year. I
just love what they've done with this offense. Man, a
chains back, He's a year into the process. Anthony Weaver,
defensive coordinator coming over from Baltimore. You listen to the
players they've rave about this guy, which is a big
flip from Vic Vangio last year, who left and then
tried to throw our players under the bus.

They just won a party, like, yeah, dude, that's the
old man thing. You can come up with it. Give
me the Dolphins in the division at twelve and five.
I don't believe in the Jets. I do not believe.
And if Patriots Page is gonna be one of the
worst teams in the league. I still think Josh Allen's
good enough to get the Bills to the playoff, but
I'm not sure if they're gonna make my wild card cut.
So AFC East Miami Dolphins at twelve and five over
on the nine and a half set by Vegas.

Let me say this, we talked during the break and
we talked to Bertie Fratt about this. Yep, the new
York Jets, and.

Aaron Rodgers. First of all, I keep hearing all this

line concerns. Let me take it a step further though.
This schedule that the Jets have, they play outside of
the division. Obviously we know that Miami and Buffalo made

the playoffs last year. Outside of the division, they play
three teams that made the playoffs last year.

Of the eleven games that they play three teams that
made the playoffs. Forty nine Ers Week one, which, as

or something weird going on in San Francisco. They just

is coming back, God willing hopefully Ricky Piersoll's back soon,
but he's obviously not gonna be available for Week one.
But you get the forty nine ers and then late
in the year, yeah, the Texans at home. You get

the Rams at home, and so I just think the
schedule breaks really nicely for them. I like your Dolphins
as well. I'm a little bit more down on the Bills.
I don't blame Josh Allen. I think it's more of

some reason you get in the biggest game possible and
you want to try to prove that Lamar Jackson's a
pocket passer.

Don't do that. Be who you are, unapologetically who you are.

And Derek King Henry, I don't think that he has
a thirteen hundred yard left season and zero. But you
guys remember when la Dania Thomlinson got cut by the
San Diego Chargers and went to the Jets. Those old
thirty year old, thirty one year old running backs, they
always have one little chip left on their shoulder. I
like about nine to fifty to a grand on the
ground because Lamar Jackson's gonna run for eight some change.
I think you have some backups there that will also

do really real Mitchell will be back this year from
being healthy.

And Zay Flowers. I like this kid man.

I'm dubbing him the next Tyreek Hill type of player
because of his speed and the way he could just
take the top off of defenses. If he reaches out
the ball and scores and it doesn't fumble against the Chiefs, guys,
they're gonna win that game and go to a Super Bowl.
I like the way the schedule breaks for them. Tough,
tough division. But any team that's coached by a guy
by the last name of Hardball with a defense like that,
Kyle Hamilton at the safety position, and then you bring

over Jackson Kareem Jackson the safety, they pick up the
safety and bring him in and add him to that
secondary there going against the offensive area offensive they have
to in that division. Give me to Baltimore Ravens the
winners division here. I like thirteen and four here, guys
for the Baltimore Ravens. Wow, I'll just ad it really quick,
since you asked me to reference it.

I liked the Bengals, but the concerns about Joe Burrow
coupled with the concerns about Jamar Chase not participating in
the preseason, I just I can't get behind him. I'm
with the Ravens. I think Lamar Get's a bad rap
for how bad Todd Munkin was in the ANFC Championship
Game last year.

I think they I don't know if they went on Thursday.

Give me to Jacksonville Jaguars that bounce back here because
I'm gonna trust in Trevor Lawrence. I'm gonna trust in
Doug Peterson. People have to remember last year, at one
point they were the number one seed in the AFC,
and they were rolling, and for some reason, much like
the Philadelphia Eagles being ten in one in one point
last year, they just spit up on themselves and things
just fell apart. But injuries had a lot to do
with it also, too, and I think they rebound from that.
I'm not high on the Texans as much as everybody

else is. People have to remember, go back to Week
eighteen last year, fourth and one, the Indianapolis Colts at home,
decides to throw a ball to a flat in the
flat to a full back. Guess how many targets he
had up until that point all season, ladies and gentlemen,
boys and girls.

Why are you throwing the ball to a full back
in a flat with the season and division on the line,
to a guy that hasn't had any attempts all year long?

Doug Peterson writes this ship. I think Trevor Lawrence is
a top twelve eleven quarterback in the league making fifty

Easy as a canon. I'll make this super short. It's
the Kansas City Chiefs. They have the best quarterback in football.
They have the best coach in football. They have the
best home field advantage of football. When you talk quarterback tiers.
One thing that's really irking my nerves, really getting under
my skin is anybody being in Tier one with Patrick Mahomes.
Stop it, it's Patrick Mahomes and then it's everybody.

Last week, so I was in with Kerry Rhodes in
this time slot and it was the day the Josh
Allen is the most overrated quarterback thing came out.

I said, he's not overrated.

The problem is we're trying to put someone on the
Patrick Mahomes tier and he's not. There's one Patrick Mahomes.
He's one of one, thank you, and so he's overrated
because we're trying to make him into something that he's not.

No, no, no, that's fine. I was on that afternoon Busar. Yeah,
I was on that after the new and we had
the same discussion. I was like, no, he's not over rated.
I just don't think he's up there where. Everybody's trying
to put him. But it should be my homes and
then everybody else. The Chiefs now, to me, guys are
the Patriots of the last twenty years. I will not
pick against them until someone could consistently make sure that

they don't even get to the AFC Championship Game or
the Super Bowl. Until that happens from the AFC. For me,
it's gonna be the Chiefs moving forward.

Three words, Give me your three wild cards in the
NFAFC if you have.

This is hard, I know this is hard.

Give me Cincinnati and Cleveland, because I think that division
gets three, and then it's either gonna be between Buffalo
and Houston. I think Houston has the better weapons and
the easier division and schedule, even though they have a stretch.
I think three separate times they have back to back
road games this year. Give me Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Houston

as my three wild cards. With Jacksonville, Baltimore, Kansas City,
and the Dolphins winning the divisions, that's the AFC playoffs.

So I will give you I think this essentially the
same three Cincinnati. I had the Jets winning the division,
so I'll have the Fins in Buffalo really quickly.

on Saturday. He was released from the hospital on Sunday,
so he will miss at least the first four games
of the season. Also missing at least the first four
games of the year is Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards.

Hilaire Casey placed him on the reserve non football illness list.
NFL media reports that Kansas City receiver Hollywood Brown will
not play in Thursday's opener because of his shoulder injury.
He did not practice today. Vikings receiver Jordan Addison back
at practice today as he comes back from an ankle
injury suffered in mid August. Bengals receiver Jamar Chase did

not practice today as he continues to seek a long
term deal. Day Baseball one final Brewers defeated the Cardinals

has been taken care of. I think Jerry should have

but should have manned up and fired Mike McCarthy a
year ago. I actually think he should have fired him
before last year. But that's neither here nor there. It's
not what he does though, It's not what he does.
It's what he should have done, it's not what he did.
Team is a mess offseason noise. I have the Eagles
winning the NFC East as well. Let's go to the

very intriguing NFC North number one. Big Caleb Williams is there.
Green Packers obviously coming off a great season. The Detroit
Lions are your reigning NFC North champs.

I'm gonna go with the Lions, even though I want
to pick the Packers, but the Packers haven't shown me
enough they are going to make the playoffs. I really
was in love with the Vikis until JJ went down.
I do not believe in Sam Donald. I didn't believe
in Sam Donald was with the bum ass Jets. I
didn't believe in Sam Darnows with the Carolina I didn't
believe when it was at USC, I always just saw

an average quarterback. I never even saw a good one.
Now I'm going to be proven so right when it
comes to Sam Donald, because they if we as weapons.
Good lord, there's no excuse for you now, mister Donald,
I just don't think he gets it done. Give me
Detroit there put a Green Bay a closed second. But
Detroit just has so many weapons, man, And I really
like when daan Keble's done there.

This is kind of the last year. Most of those
guys are on the rookie contract. Some of the guys
have agreed to extensions, but they don't kick in yet.
This is kind of the window for Detroit right now.
I got them winning the NFC North, Let's go to
NFC South. I call it intriguing, but it's not.

No, no, it's not because this was easy for me.
It's the Atlanta Falcons. You get Judawn down there. They
have one of the best secondaries, they have one of
the best safeties, and all the football mark my words.

Had to kind of fill out his rookie year a
little bit, but I think he's got it now. Whether
it's Kurt a Weather, it's Pennix, I think they're fine
at the quarterback puisition. Drake London, Kyle Pitts, they have
weapons all around, They have a really good offensive line,
have a top ten defense, and the division isn't very well.
I think the Bucks can push them. And I've always
loved Baker, but Baker's like a one good year than

one okay year. One good year, the one okay year,
he said, the one good year, and I think he
has the okay year now this year. Give me an
Atlanta Falcons. I think you can win this division at
nine and eight, but I'll give them ten and seven.
Speaker 2 (35:50):
I will say this is that when I look at
the NFC South, I'm a little down on Atlanta one.
Speaker 1 (35:56):
I just I'm just not a Kirk Cousins guy.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
But I also don't you feel like there's a little
something weird with the Michael Pennick stuff, like draft him,
but then you shut him down. He looks good and
there's something and by the way, and Kirk Cousins clearly
is not happy with that. So I don't love Tampa,
you know. I don't love Tampa for the same things
that you do. I like Baker as a dude, but

he is up and down. But here's the bottom line
is that nine and eight won this division last year.
I think nine and eight will do it again. Go
ahead and give me the go ahead and give me
the Tampa Bay Bucks to win this division. Let's go
out to the NFC West. We've teased it a few times.
We know how much Rich Davis loves the San Francisco

And I love him too, man, I really want to
pick a surprise because this is all going kind of chalk,
and we know it doesn't go chalk. So but I'm
gonna stick with the Niners. But watch the Los Angeles Rams. Guys,
I'm telling you about this football team had a lot
of Andrews last year. It was on the cusp of
winning that game up in Detroit and the playoffs and
should have got that thing done. But Samas is good,

still has too many weapons. Brock perty is still gonna
be an MVP candidate. They have the number one running
back in football, the number one left tackle of football,
a top ten, a top three excuse me, tied in
Brandon Nyuk.

They just got that deal done.

Yeah, a top ten receiver and who wants some of
d both Samuel and then the defense you talk about
Warner and in those two safeties they got back there.
They Bosa can be healthy. That front four could be monstrous, right.
I still now, I'm not with Bernie on the under
on the eleven and a half. I like twelve and
five here, and I think twelve and five gets the
division done for the Niners.

but I still like Dallas a lot more than you do.
It's still a lot of talent. I know they didn't
have a great offseason, but they got the deal done
that they needed to get done. They got CD done.
Dak's gonna play on this deal. I'm questionable about the

running back position, but when you got a seventeen we
got fifteen hundred yard receiver, and you had a forty
five hundred yard quarterback who led the NFL in pass
completions last year a percentage, excuse me, who led the
NFL in touchdown passes last year. Dak.

For people that don't like the guy, he's a guarantee.

Forty five one hundred yards is seventy percent completion percentage
with thirty plus touchdowns.

think that might be the worst team.

I actually my hot take, I think Spencer Rattler might
be the start by the end of the year. He's
been awesome in the preseason. Yes, Derek Carr's washed, Dennis
Allen's gonna be gone after this year, Total curveball, Is
Dennis out? Your first your first coach fired? Yeah, Okay,
I'm gonna say the Washington Commanders. I think Dan Quinn
I think he gets out of Cliff Kingsbury's way. Cliff

Kingsbury is in the head coach, but he's a great
play caller. Jayden Daniels is gonna be awesome. You look
at the first couple of games at Tampa, New York
Giants at home the Bengals, we still don't really know
what's going on with them. I think they could start
off hot. They obviously have a last play schedule. That's
my wild prediction there and by I'm a little down
on the pack. I know we're short on time here.

Jordan Love didn't just have a good half of a season.
He had like there were games in that half that
he did not play well. Lost to the Giants, lost
to the Bucks. Anyway, I'm a little down on the Packers.
Well in the Commanders, I'm with you. They're my surprise team.
I just don't I just don't think they made the playoff.
Jayden Daniels is legit, and dan Quinn, you know the
defense is going to be good. His defenses are good

no matter where he's been, other than when he's up
another one.

But I like this team. I just don't think they
have enough to get to the playoffs.
