Speaker 1 (00:00):
We are back.
Speaker 2 (00:00):
It is Colts corner with myself, Kevin Bowen and Eddie
Garrison is across the way Colts hovering right around another
touchdown favorite, and I would venture to guess a quarterback
injury out in the desert could influence the fluctuation of
that line over the next seventy two ninety six hours.
Colts and Cardinals in Week six, Eddie Garrison, are we
(00:22):
getting to Jacoby Burssette tribute video?
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Has he made an appearance to I don't think so.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
I think he's played against the Colts, but I don't
think in the building. Maybe, just like thirty QB Sneaks,
they could just.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Edit together and the hail Mary the Great.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Didn't he have a great play to two Y Hilton
one time too against Denver? They seemed to recall that
being a great play. I should give Jacobe more credit
than that. But yeah, we'll see how all of that
unfolds here coming up as we get into Colts and
Cardinals in Week six, A little bit of a newsyer
week than typical. Obviously, we got a kicker injury and
signing to talk about Louis and Roumo gets another one
(01:02):
of his former players those will probably be the big
news items. But how you doing, sir?
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Doing well? As you know, I've been out the last
handful of Mondays doing some stuff here, and unfortunately, Kevin,
as soon as we get done, I am out of town.
So on Saturday, Leving and I we're going on vacation
for a week. So I think it'll be you and
Mark on Monday, and then you maybe maybe Mattie Bowen
as a birthday president. She happy belated birthday to Mattie Bowen.
(01:29):
She can make a podcast appearance next week as your
co host.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
I was gonna say, yeah, I'm gonna be in a
little bit scrambled mode next week, but deservedly so a
little vak for you as you finally found a little
bit of quiet time between your basketball producing that you
do and for us here we're going to be moving
buildings and so Eddie's learning a little bit about the
new building here and that's why he's been out on
a few of these Mondays. All right, let's get to
(01:53):
the biggest news item here of the week, and that
is a return of Michael Badgeley to the Indianapolis Colts
eight kicker tryout on Tuesday, Badgely the winner of that.
You know, Eddie, I think this analogy might be horrific,
so feel free to say if it is. But anytime
(02:15):
you sign a kicker in season, that kicker is going
to have warts. I think the best case scenario is
if those warts are covered on your butt and not necessarily.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Why did you have to say butt and you could
just left it at covered?
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Oh yeah, well covered? Sure, I don't know. Well, yeah,
or bottom I could have said, or booty I could
have said some other words.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
You could have just you know, not gone there. Yeah,
I guess I could have. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
That probably wasn't the best analogy. If you want to
edit it out, feel free.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Nope, not staying in there, No need edit out. And
let's look at Badly. Okay, what do you like?
Speaker 2 (02:48):
First off, I think it's pretty rare in season to
sign a kicker that you have familiarity with. And he
literally worked with this battery of Luke Rhodes and Rico
Bertel Sanchez back in twenty twenty one, worked with him
for twelve games. I was talking to Regal in the
locker room today and I was like, is the hold
that much different for Spencer Strader and Badgely says, no,
not not really at all. So again, that aspect of
(03:09):
getting used to said player probably isn't going to be
as immense as a wood. If you signed another guy
change Stike, and he's even has some familiarity with him,
you don't want to put too much stock into that.
But still, twenty eighteen, twenty twenty, those guys out with
the Chargers. And then lastly, he has kicked and kicked
well in the playoffs, So you know, I think the
(03:30):
Colts are trending in that sort of direction and meaningful
games and bigger pressure moments. You know, there are a
few of those kickers the Colts worked out that have
never kicked in the NFL or certainly haven't kicked in
a lot of playoff atmospheres. So you know, Badgely checks
that box. I want to say, he's twenty one to
twenty two in his career in the playoffs including extra points.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
Okay, where are the warts if I have a thirteen
beyond fifty, Yeah, in his career.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Before I get to fifty, I'm just going to start
physically with him. He hasn't kicked the NFL in six
hundred days. You know, it was a torn hamstring last
year that caused him to miss the entire season. So
just where he is he at from a you know,
kicking at an NFL level standpoint, You got to go
back to the playoffs of the twenty twenty three season,
last time we've seen him kick, and then yes to
(04:18):
your point, five of thirteen from north to fifty yards
since he's entered the league, I think it's the second
worst percentage from north of fifty and you're talking about
about forty five fifty some kickers that fall into that
category of having enough kicks to qualify. So he has
been a very bad long distance kicker. So what does
(04:38):
that mean? Does that mean Shane Stacking now goes for
even more of those you know, fourth and sevens around
the thirty three yard line to thirty eight yard line.
Chain already goes for a whole lot anyways, So those
are some of the things I think to look for.
But you know, again, every kicker's gonna have warts in season.
Can you try to cover him up as b dust
(05:00):
as possible? If you look at the list of the eight,
you know, Dustin Hopkins was probably the other one that
certainly brought a veteran pedigree to him, a little bit
better of a long distance kicker, a little older, and
again the familiarity not necessarily is there with him. I
totally forgot about Josh Lambeau for some reason. I remember
him making a big kick to beat the Colts one year. Yeah,
(05:23):
that sounds about right, Jags guy.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
Right, So eight of them.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
They also had that thicker kicker I saw from Missouri.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Thicker Kicker.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Yeah, that was his nickname, right, Harrison? Do you remember
him from college?
Speaker 3 (05:36):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (05:36):
No, five eleven two forty warsaw kid.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
Really mm hmm? Did they bring a Maddox true tree Hill?
He was not one of the eight.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
I know a lot of people asked about Rodrigo Blankenship.
He was not one of the eight. Again, trio Fo
what it's worth, was cut with an injury late in August,
And for them to have brought young Way Coup to
the Colts, they would have had to sign him off
the practice squad. I basically know competition. They would have
signed him from the Giants off their practice squad. So again,
(06:05):
Michael Badgley, look at the resume.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
Makes sense. We'll see about the long distant stuff. I
don't know.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
Maybe now that they're the cares are allowed to massage balls,
aren't they.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
Yeah, it is a that's a very interesting way of
putting it. I don't know how else to get around it.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
I just hope you don't think like a seventh grader
and you can think like, you know, here's a fell podcaster,
and you could actually move on.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
I can certainly do that something else. I mean, I
can certainly do that. But you just said massage balls, Kevin.
Can't you say massage footballs or the.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
K balls as they call them, massage caballs. Sure, yeah,
maybe I should have been a little bit more descriptive there.
So who knows, maybe now he'll be able to kick,
you know, a little bit better for longer distances. So
he was out there practice today, didn't kick in front
of the media, But again he is used to Luke
Rhodes and Riga Bertel Sanchez, So Michael Badgley number twelve,
I believe he was rocking today.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
I do have a follow up on this though, so
you may young Wayku. He was on the practice squad.
Is on the practice squad for the Giants. Another name
that I thought that would be worth monitoring, just because
he's actively kicking and we've seen him kick this year.
Is Matt Prater because Tyler Bass, the kicker in Buffalo
is expected to be coming off injured reserve sometime soon
(07:18):
and this week potentially, maybe not this week, maybe next week.
But still, is there a possibility here, Kevin where we
just see them go with Michael Badgley for the interim
and then once Tyler Bass is activated and Matt Prater
becomes available. Is that a guy that they bring in, like, Hey,
he's a veteran, He's kicked a lot of balls, as
you would say, he's kicked in a lot of big
(07:38):
moments as well. Is that a possibility or do you
think the Michael Badgley signing as a permanent throughout the
rest of the season. You know, I think it's barring
bad performance.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
I think it's as permanent as a as a kicker
can be, as a as a kicker who signed in
season canby. I don't, yeah, I want to act like
you're signing, you know, in his prime whatever, justin Tucker
here and you know, and Prader, I know he's been
pretty good, you know, for the Bills here, So I don't,
I don't know, maybe Prader finds another situation kind of
(08:08):
like this one here, and maybe they take a little
bit of a longer time with Tyler Bass, who you
know has had a little bit of a roller coaster
here lately. So I would assume this is gonna be
Michael Badgery's job for the foreseeable future.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
Okay, the other big move that was made today the
Colts signed Jermaine Pratt, who you and I thought would
have been a guy that the Colts potentially traded for
in this offseason, winning requested that trade from Cincinnati, and
then they ultimately they end up releasing him, and it
was like, oh, it's another lou N Rumol guy. There
is a need at linebacker. Potentially they'll go out and
(08:41):
sign him. That doesn't happen. He goes to Vegas, starts
the first four games as twenty four to twenty five tackles,
plays every snap, and a week number four against the
Chicago Pears, and then all of a sudden, between the
fallout of that game and then last week facing the Colts,
he doesn't make the travel to Indianapolis from Vegas, ultimately
gets released yesterday, and now he has been brought in
(09:04):
to assumingly start next to Zaire Franklin this weekend and
as a move in order to open up a roster spot,
Joe Bachi is now on injured reserve with an unspecified injury.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
It's a little odd, I must say, you know, Bachi,
no injury reported out of the game, no injury reported
on Monday. Shane Stikeen said nothing in the press conference today,
and then like twenty minutes after the press conference gets over,
it's like, oh, yeah, here you go, Joe Boschi's going
on ir So, yeah, I don't know exactly what was
going on there. Obviously, as you said, we've mentioned the
Pratt name a whole lot. He was super complimentary of
(09:41):
lou Ana Rumo. I he mentioned this during his press conference.
He was loui Ana Rumo's first draft pick if you
kind of look at it from that light in Cincinnati
as a third rounder in twenty nineteen. Called him a
father figure. So my question is this is he an
upgrade from what you have.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
Right now?
Speaker 2 (10:00):
That bar is incredibly low, incredibly low, and how they've
rotated next to Sire Franklin. They have tried a ton
of dudes. It has not gone well for virtually any
of them. And now They're going to bring in a
guy that you knows over ninety starts in his NFL career,
and you know, we'll see obviously what's left in.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
The tank for him.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
I'm not going to pretend to have dissected the four
Raiders games he's played. There are some numbers that indicate
he's playing fine. And again the bar is not very
high for the level of cults were getting next to Franklin.
So it is really interesting how much Chris Bawards just
just basically said to Luannarumo, have at it, man, you know,
(10:44):
have at it with these guys that you want now.
Granted they could have signed Pratt, you know, earlier in
the offseason, and yet you know that didn't happen there.
I don't know if they wanted to see some of
these younger linebackers, if they want to see Jalen Carlis
until he got hurt, doesn't sound like the Carlist return
is eminent. Him and Jay and Jones both gonna stay
on injured reserve at least for another week. And so far,
(11:08):
I think Anaumo has brought a lot of good to
the Colts. Unfortunately for the Colts, though, the Anaumo connections
have not gone very well. I mean xaviering Howard retired
from the NFL. I would argue Joe Bachi was not
playing good football before he went on injured reserve. Mike Hilton,
you know, probably too small but sample size to offer
anything more than that. He is also an injured reserve
(11:30):
for the time being with a shoulder issue. So we'll see.
Now it's a fourth time, and all these guys have rich,
rich history with Ana roumo here, so linebacker has clearly
been an area that they need to look at. And
you know, I would assume, given Jermaine Pratt's in game shape,
you would think he could play and play a good
(11:51):
amount on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
Yeah. And then as it pertains to just injuries in
general for the for the Colts, Kevin, do we know
anything as to whether or not Kenny Moore will do
we have an inclination on whether or not he will
suit up on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
He was not practicing today when we were out there,
so I would think no, just given he's already missed
two weeks, I would think you would won a full
week of work. And again the Achilles, you know, being
the nature that it is now, Shane Second acted like
he was gonna do some field work. I don't know,
maybe he did that before we were out of practice.
Is two days enough? Part of me thinks no. Granted,
(12:25):
Kenny is a veteran here, so if not, I assume
that's Crystal Monds. You know, we'll see if the injury
report comes out during this podcast as we record, Eddie,
typically it does. Alec Pierce was in a blue jersey,
so again you would think he needs definitely a full
week after last week to play. Grover Stewart good news
on that front, because I think, you know, he's obviously
one of the more dispensable players. Bysypinger, he was practicing,
(12:48):
Tyler Goodson was still out, and then Braden Smith was
not practicing right sleeve or leg on the right leg
on the right sleeve, sleeve on the right leg. Is
that the need that he has been having I think
issues with is Jalen Travis I assume would be the
one that would fill in there. And again, the old
(13:10):
line has been very healthy so far. Mack In's olves
for one game, is it? You know you've had your
starting unit in there for four of the five weeks,
and Eddie, I can't recall too many times, and I
don't even remember a lineman getting hurt. I think Nelson
had a leaf for like one play that one game.
But they've been pretty healthy as a unit throughout games
and of course from week to week as well, So
that might be something worth monitoring as the week moves along.
(13:32):
And you know, we'll probably get into a little bit
more Arizona, but obviously Kyler Murray situation is a big one.
One other item I wanted to point to Eddie before
we get into a little bit more on the Arizona discussion.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
Do you mention any anything by the way about Jalen
Carlis or Jalen Jones.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
Yeah, I just mentioned it briefly. Neither of them opening
up the window just yet. I don't think they're going
to be out too much longer, but this week neither
of them will be back to practice.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
One thing I want it hit on.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
And I know Mark and I did this a little
bit on Monday, Eddie, but you know there is this
and I get it. There is this discussion right now
with the Colts. How legit are they? Oh, they haven't
played anybody, you know that that aspect to it, And
I think the NFL is one of the harder leagues
out there. Even though it's only seventeen games, what you
(14:21):
look like month to month can really change in a hurry,
really change in a hurry. I mean, you go back
to that twenty nineteen season, they were five and two
and then they end up only winning seven games. It's
like when it starts to go down certain paths, it
can really you know, stay on those paths if you will.
(14:43):
And so this has been kind of a popular topic
of Okay, you know, what does four and one mean?
What does you know the point differential mean? And that
was something that you know, I try to point out
on Monday of like, it's so rare to see the
Colts beat the you know what out of teams plurally,
I say those teams. So I just I had to
take a little deeper dive into it, Eddie, and I
looked at the last decade teams at this point of
(15:05):
the season that have a point differential like the Colts have,
and right now I think they're plus seventy four. So
the round number I use was plus seventy and if
you look at it, they're one of nine teams. So
you go to the past ten years, they're one of
nine teams to be sitting here in Week six with
a plus seventy point differential. My thought was, does early
(15:30):
season success lead to late season success? Does it lead
to playoff success? And if you look at it, it
has in almost every single case among those eight other teams,
I believe seven of the eight went on to make
the playoffs, and three of them made it all the.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
Way to the Super Bowl. Oh, so place your bets now. People.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
You're talking about consistent winning eleven eleven, eleven, twelve, thirteen, thirteen.
I mean we're talking, you know, very much winning seasons
and then playoff success. I think combined it's ten playoff
wins total for those eight teams, and against seven of
them had made the postseason. So not only are they
(16:17):
getting in, but they are winning you know, games when
they are in there. So again it's just some evidence
doesn't mean exactly gospel, like the culture all of a
sudden gonna do what these teams have done. No, but
when teams have been this dominant early in the season,
it's been a very good tell to what they are
in December and January, which in the NFL I don't
(16:39):
think is always a given. And now the cold schedule.
It's also staying. In fact, it is very backloaded. I
mean it is You've got both the Jacksonville games, You're
at Kansas City, You're at Seattle. We'll see what San
Francisco is in week sixteen, you know, even both the
Houston games. So you know, it is a schedule that
looks much different later than it does early. But I
just wanted to point that out from a big discussion
(17:01):
topic that I feel like is there with the Colts
right now.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
Let's talk about their upcoming opponent for this week. That
is the Arizona Cardinals. They won their first two games
of the season. They have now lost three consecutive games
by a field goal at the end of the game
to San Francisco, Seattle, and then of course last week
to Tennessee. A couple of injuries to note here off
(17:27):
the rip. James Connor obviously on injured reserve with a
foot injury. Trey Benson missing the second week of what
is an ankle injury. He is expected to be out
somewhere between four and six weeks. Michael Carter has now
taken over as the primary ball carrier for Arizona, and
of course everyone by down knows who the other back,
whoever running back is, it's Emery de Mercado. Of course,
(17:50):
he's the one who's responsible for dropping the Baltic goal
line for Arizona last week, ultimately being displayed all over
social media for the punishment quote unquote from Jonathan Gannon
that ultimately like Jonathan Gannon to being fined one hundred
thousand dollars.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
Kyler Murray is currently Gannon. What if I Venmo requests
that running back for the month, well, would that be
allowed in today's climate or no?
Speaker 1 (18:16):
I would say no, just because I mean, you're an
NFL coach. You can't put your hands on a player
like that. If there's one time you can, I want
to say that much. And if you're going to do
it doing the locker room, don't do it where there's
millions of cameras all around. It's probably true. Kyler Murray
on the injury report right now, he's dealing with a
foot injury. On Monday, Jonathan Gannon said, we'll see how
the week goes today did not participate in practice and
(18:38):
is listed as day to day. And of course Kevin's
already noted. Jacoby Brissett is the backup quarterback and would
be starting for Arizona if Murray cannot go, And yes, Kevin.
He has faced the Colts twice since leaving Indianapolis, never
once playing in Lucas Oil Stadium. In terms of offense,
they're twenty fourth in points, twenty seventh in yards per play,
(18:59):
eighth in yard per rush, and twenty sixth in pass yards. Defensively,
they're pretty stout in this regard. They are giving up
these sixth fewest points, eleventh fewest point yards per play,
and they have the seventh best rush defense in terms
of yards per rush allowed. But they are very, very
bad once again, another opponent for the Colts. In terms
(19:20):
of pass yards allowed, they are twenty ninth in the league. Obviously,
the key players on offense you know them if you
play fantasy football, Marvin Harrison Junior, Trey McBride. They have
forty nine of the teams one hundred and ten receptions
seventy four of the team's one hundred and fifty eight targets,
So if the ball is being passed, you know half
the time it's going to be one of those two players. Defensively,
(19:40):
only four players have a sack on the season. For Arizona.
Two of them have more than one. Kalaias Campbell has three,
and the team's leading sack man is Josh Sweat, of course,
formerly with the Philadelphia Eagles, he has five. Buddha Baker
in the secondary as a safety be fun to watch
on Sunday to see how they utilize him, and then
(20:03):
Will Johnson is their primary corner that they just drafted
Adam Michigan and as a total only three interceptions for
the Arizona Cardinals defense.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
Boy, they've had some crushing losses. Crushing losses. I would
argue their their point separation is probably the smallest in
the NFL because I think both their wins are by
one score as well. So it's been quite the five
weeks for them. If anybody watched the end of the
Arizona game, it was one of the worst the Titans game,
that is Arizona Titans game. It's one of the worst
(20:33):
losses I've ever seen. You got the interception then, like
I'm sure the Denver Colts game, but even like just
more of an excruciating collapse.
Speaker 1 (20:43):
I still don't understand how that was a pick because
he got the two feet down and then didn't maintain
control through the ground if that would be qualified as
the football.
Speaker 2 (20:50):
Move, But all of it, all of it was wild. Obviously,
Kyler Murray's foot is a huge discussion topic, and one
will he play? And then two will he be confined
into just being a pocket guy? Because at that height,
if you're confined to just being a pocket guy, how
many balls you think Grover Stewart's gonna bat?
Speaker 1 (21:06):
And they it allowed to a low to well, and
how does that impact your rushing effectiveness? Sure? So now
you can just.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
Simply sell out to stop Michael Carter. So yeah, that
is a huge, huge topic. So again, this line, I
think it's fluctuated a little bit more with the Colts
and I would venture to guess that'll continue assuming Kyler
status remains up in the air. The trade McBride storyline
is a big one because the Raiders didn't have anything
at tight end. You know, they were down both bowers
(21:34):
in may or what does a good tight end do
or test? For these Colts linebackers, their defense is extremely
exotic and you have the big time Philly connections with
Jonathan Gannon, with Shane Stikeen Nick Rails there. Def it's
a coordinator someone that Shane holds in high regard. So
that's just kind of a game within the game. We'll
see how Marvin Harrison Junior plays, and you know, of
(21:54):
course a building that his dad had some fond memories,
probably more across the street than anything, but you know
he I think finally kind of got going a little
bit more last week. So you know, Arizona is reeling
three in a row. Ten am kickoff time, and if
you can get on them early, what can that do?
(22:14):
Not the most household name defensively, but as you pointed out,
I think they have been better defensively than they have
offensively this season. So it'll be Kevin Coogler, Daryl Johnson,
the Fox crew. We'll see if everyone behaves on Friday
night here in Indie and Saturday night here in Indie.
Speaker 1 (22:30):
And one o'clock right now, six and a half point spread,
how would you handle treat mcbriden. Would you go three
safeties and ask him buying him to Hey, that's your guy,
go go cover?
Speaker 2 (22:42):
Part of me kind of looks at Nick Cross too.
I kind of like Nick's physicality a little bit. I
would look look there, you know, is this something where
you kind of look at him and say, hey, let's
do some bracket things and you know, hope that Mooney
Ward kind of takes care of Marvin Marvin Harrison Junior.
So I think that will be a big, big storyline
for this game.
Speaker 1 (23:02):
Another big storyline Kevin will be how many snaps does
a d Mitchell get versus Ashton Doolan after the professionalism
that Dulan displayed in that game last week against Vegas
and quite frankly, the amount of times that they have
turned to him over the course of the last handful
of years and in those situations and he's been productive.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
Yeah, And to me, I think we touched on this
a little bit Monday, but I don't see the need
to carry the punishment for another week.
Speaker 1 (23:28):
I e.
Speaker 2 (23:29):
You know, have him whatever be inactive, if Pierce was dressing,
or you know, banish him to only playing in the
fourth quarter of a blowout. I'm fine with him sprinkling in,
you know, a couple of snaps, even in the first half.
But if you are going to have to rely on
a third outside wide out, I guess, assuming Pierce can play,
then I still think it should be doing. That's kind
of how I view that situation. But Shane was very noncommittal.
(23:51):
Again today he basically gave the same quote that he
ate last week. So in regards to Adie Mitchell. So
that's very interesting read into that.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
Well you will now he was a guest on the
Morning Show earlier this week, right with you you James
Boyd and jeff Ricker. Doland was yes, you want to
get to that. Look at that. I was wondering where
you're going with that.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
This was our conversation with Ashton Doolan from earlier in
the week on the Fan Morning Show. Ashton, you strike
me as ad that doesn't get tired. You just played
a career high in offensive snaps. Are you extra tired
this Monday morning?
Speaker 3 (24:19):
No body definitely seeing a little bit. But that's what
I signed up for. You know seven years when you
said so nothing new, so.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
No thought to go to the old oxygen after the
kick return. I literally would have been on the bench
for the next ten minutes and you just run back
to the offensive.
Speaker 3 (24:33):
Huddle actually fighting because a couple of guys are like,
you won't get no auction. I was like, man, I
didn't even think about it. I probably should have figured
hind insight, but fight next time, aushtin.
Speaker 4 (24:43):
When you look at what your office was able to
do overall, why do you think this group is clicking
at a rate that we just haven't seen for a
team that once had Peyton Manning. I mean you all
scored on six straight possessions, and not just scored, you
had six straight touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
Yeah, man, I think it's just testaments, you know, how
prepare everybody is, from you know to the quarterback position,
O line, running back, tight end, receiver. Everybody is locked
in and doubting what the game plan is and what
their job is doing every given Sunday. So I think
when you can click on a high level like that,
you know, to get the results for getting after.
Speaker 4 (25:18):
The game, Shaan Styken described you as being tough and gritty.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
Would you agree with that assessment?
Speaker 4 (25:24):
And how would you describe just your path from you know,
Malone which no longer has a football program at that
you know university, to now being you know, on your
second contract I believe might have been second or third
contract in the NFL as an undrafted player.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
Yeah, I think that's a fair description. You know, I shout,
I prout myself on you know, doing whatever it is
a team ask of me and doing a high effort.
So you know that's been doing for seven years now.
You know, it's been blessed to be a seven years now.
So I just got seen to do that and just
stick with it.
Speaker 5 (25:53):
All I know is I want to ask the dueling
on the radio station more this deep voice on a
Monday morning. I'm all, I'm all about that, man, I
dig that. But we also want to know talk us
through what it's like in the huddle with Daniel Jones
right now, we're all kind of getting to know him
a little bit. You guys get to spend every single
day with him. Why is he successful here?
Speaker 1 (26:12):
What's going on? And what do you see?
Speaker 3 (26:13):
I mean, he attacks every day the same as far
as you know. How he prepares and he's in the
building early. He was the last one to leave. I
might air him out for this, but he might you know,
he might show it to at dinner a couple of
fifteen twenty minutes later because he's breaking down film still
coming from the facilities. So we might give him a
little stuff for that. But now he prepares in the
right way and he comes into work, he leaves the
(26:35):
right way, you know, he leaves by example. You know,
it's a great guy to have in a huddle.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
Ashton when you you know, kind of agreed with you know,
Shane's assessment of you know, gritty work, ethic, et cetera,
et cetera. What's that rooted in? When was that kind
of instilled in you from a I assume a younger age.
Speaker 3 (26:55):
Yeah, for sure. I mean I've been I've been in
sports since you know, four or five, six years old,
So to compare of nature's there for sure. That's just
something I've always you know, kind of prided myself on.
But you know, to be a part of a team
like this kind of everybody has that that grit in
that grind. So it's it's kind of contagious around the
facility in the billion now when you see somebody else
doing you kind of want to pick your play up too.
(27:16):
So just to have that, you know, it's great to
be around.
Speaker 2 (27:19):
If you don't mind, Could you take us back and
I think you've told the story before, but for audience
it hasn't heard it. Could you go back to the
twenty nineteen draft and just you know, I guess did
you think you would get drafted? What was the final
day like and why Indie as an undrafted free agent.
Speaker 3 (27:36):
I mean, for me, it was the thing I was
get drafted. You know, I was just always just had
to get opportunity to go to the Combine, be the
first player from you know, from my school to go
to Combine and have a chance to get drafted, and
just to be in the league as a whole. To
be that first guy was you know, was was surreal,
kind of a blessing. But just to you know, just
(27:57):
to get in the building and you know that that
final day, you know, not hearing my name called, but
then immediately after, you know, you're on the phone talking
to teams and kind of deciphering you know, what's the
best fit and you know where to go. And you know,
Indie was always kind of my second home cause kind
of I was born here and my mom's side is
off from Indy. So it was like, you know, this
is a good choice, you know, the situation with you know,
just to be with her, with Chris and everybody in
(28:18):
there to welcome me with welcome arms, open arms. You know,
they were like, you know, just to come in and
work and you know, earn your spot, and that's that's
that's what happened.
Speaker 2 (28:25):
I totally forgot that you were born here. Where were
you or what? I guess where are your mom's side
grow up? And how long did you live here?
Speaker 3 (28:32):
Yeah? So I was born in Elkhart, Indiana. She was
born in Elkhart. I was only there for a couple
of months, you know. But her she she grew up here.
Her side is off from from Elkhart. And they said
that's the Rby capital of the world. So small little Elkhart.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Yeah, they should be given like Ashton doing just r
v's galore.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
After that, I feel like, you know, we got to
get your Wikipedia.
Speaker 4 (28:54):
We got to get the Wikipedia page help data Ashton,
because they're lying about you.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
Man.
Speaker 1 (28:58):
It says you're born in Ohio.
Speaker 4 (28:59):
And I feel like after you have a game like
that in a career like you've had, you got to
get some more respect here on the internet.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
That with good TV, you know anybody any way. Wikipedia,
So it's a free game with that, for sure.
Speaker 4 (29:09):
I'm gonna go in and and and and change it
to Ashton doesn't get tired dueling, and you know is
your name? Uh. One thing I do want to get
into and I think I had this conversation with you
a couple of years ago.
Speaker 1 (29:20):
Actually, so, can you.
Speaker 4 (29:22):
Describe your football career pre malone, because from what I understand,
and this was self admitted by you at the time,
like you weren't always maybe the best student or whatever,
and didn't play a lot of organized football growing up.
So can you get take us down memory lane a
little bit and also explain what the shift was, what
your pivot was to taking football more serious and obviously
getting to where.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
You are today.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
Yeah, yes, I mean so obviously I played throughout a
little league, you know, you know, junior pee wee's in
middle school, junior high starting a eight years old, played
to you know, to I got the high school, and
the problem was my grades my freshman and sophomore year
of the grades, so I couldn't play. I couldn't run
track either, you know, just you know, not focus in
(30:06):
the classroom stuff like that. But then I missed my
freshman sophomore year playing my junior and senior year. Was
playing free safety my junior year, and then played both
places obviously my senior year, you know, and then had
a couple of walk ons, preferred walk ons to play
free safety. I had like four offers for receiver. I
also wanted to run track in college, so for me,
(30:27):
it was like, let's do both alone was the best
fit for that, and then you know, just you know,
played out from there. You know, got recognized by scouts
and here I am now seven years later.
Speaker 1 (30:37):
That's crazy.
Speaker 4 (30:38):
And from what I understand, Malone is in Canton, Ohio,
so you're like right next door to the Hall of Fame.
So what was that like, you know, did you ever
think when did it become realistic for you, like I
can probably make it to the NFL, And how much
of it was a reminder of you know, how much
it takes when you got the Hall of Fame, you
know right next door.
Speaker 3 (30:57):
Yeah, I mean we played in the stadium, so just
to player every every Saturday was was kind of dope
for me, just you know, just to know that, you know,
you have an opportunity to go. Is know, as long
as you do what you gotta do, handle your grades,
you don't have me your business on the field and
off the field, you know, and they'll find you. So
for me, my junior, I was like, and I got
a shot, but I always believe, of course I could
make it to the league. And that was always a
(31:17):
goal of mine. But you know, to have it, you know,
kind of come lay out in front of you and
the playing kind of comes comes together and it's like, Okay,
I can really do it this. You know, your teammates
around you are like they get excited too because they
they want a chance too, and they see scouts coming around,
they're like, okay, we know everybody might have a shot,
so you know, just to have that, And then the
locker room was good to see.
Speaker 4 (31:35):
Well, Ashton, just real quick, I want to say, your
clout is already rising. We had a listener already update
the Wikipedia page to stay born in Elkhart, Indiana.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
So wearing a lot of hats.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
Like yesterday on game day, he was a gunner and
he was covering kicks. He was taking a kick back
of the house unfortunately got called back and two big catches.
Should have had a third, Frank, I thought that other
one was a catch there on the far sideline. Ashton
doing with this on the Paylost Stickers hot line. What
is the new kickoff rule? Like, I'm stressed following it.
Speaker 1 (32:06):
What is that like?
Speaker 2 (32:07):
For It's an entertaining play, but I feel like there's
a ton of things going on with a new kickoff.
Speaker 3 (32:12):
Oh yeah, I mean it's it's definitely fun. I mean,
you know, we get some more chances to return the ball.
But you know that the kickers are kind of, you know,
getting crazy with these kicks, some of these knuckleball kicks
and the different kind of trick kicks they can do.
It makes still need a little bit more tougher. But
you know, once you can even feel the clean and
he kind of beat that first level, then you know
you got a shot pretty much almost every kickoff. So
(32:33):
I mean you just got to find the holes and
you know, trust your blocks, and then you know you
got a big play on the rise.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
Biggest thing you've learned from Reggie Wayne since he's been
your position coach.
Speaker 3 (32:44):
Oh man, you know he diagnosedes coverage, you know, probably
burning anybody else. You know, he's going to feel on
stylight sometimes, you know, just yelling at us what the
coverage is, and right before the play you might see
a picture. You know, it changes and he's able to
He might eat me sometimes we can. Sometimes we can.
You know, he doesn't know that. I don't tell him that,
but when he when he sees it, you know he
he's yelling on the sideline AAA, cover to cover four whatever,
(33:07):
you know, but just having him there and he makes
you know, makes reading defenses easier, you know, makes you
comfortable go out there and play and unstrust your abilities.
Speaker 1 (33:14):
Is he a coach that shows his own highlights to you?
Speaker 3 (33:17):
Uh, to believe it or not, He's probably only showed
probably on I could probably count one hand. I mean
time he showed me his highlights, probably all of us
as as a whole. He doesn't really brag too much,
but he definitely shows us his He's like when he's
he's you know, breaking down a certain route or something
like that, he'll definitely go back to the archives and
probably's one on one clips to him, just just routing
(33:37):
somebody up and you know, doing what he does.
Speaker 5 (33:40):
Hey, while we're talking about wide receivers, one of the
things I really like about this group, And obviously Jonvin
Taylor is one of, if not the best running back
in the NFL right now, but running backs in the
NFL don't get yards unless wide receivers, not just offensive
linemen do their job and make blocks. This group seems
totally bought in on making sure you make your block
(34:02):
and your assignment. What do you guys talk about going
into games when it comes to you just making sure
you steal your EDGs, you take care of the cornerback,
you you help create that whole.
Speaker 1 (34:11):
What's that like for you guys?
Speaker 3 (34:13):
Oh man, I mean everybody in the receiver room is
ready to block it till for anybody you know they
have the clichees and a block to get the rock,
so that you know, we're all kind of bought in
on making sure you know our guy doesn't make the tackle,
because if he doesn't make the tackle and then ready
to count as a loss every time doesn't matter if
your guy makes the tackle, whether you you know you
beat him in the first five yards and you had
(34:34):
a good block for that first you know, two seconds
of the play. But if he gets on attack where
he makes the play, you know Reggie count has a loss.
So for us, it's no lecture. Man make the tackle
and let JT go to work.
Speaker 2 (34:45):
It's a great story, Eddie. I just think it's a
great cult story, and you know, not everything's got to
be a ring of honor and hall of fame. Although
cand Ohio is in this guy's background, but I think
he stands for so much you want to be about.
And you know I said this on Monday. Think about
all the Whiteouts they've drafted. You know, everybody in that room, Eddie.
They drafted googled Downs, Mitchell, Pierce, Pittman, they all drafted
(35:08):
them since Doling. Think about the guys they also drafted,
Desmond Patman, Mike Strong, Paris Campbell, all them were drafted.
And Dolan's career and yet here he is still doing
his thing, recovering from an ACL. So I really enjoyed that.
Hope you guys did as well. I think Ashton doing
strikes me. It's just a good dude.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
A lot of Twitter questions to get too, starting with Peyton.
After seeing what we've seen through the past five weeks,
do you think Indiana Jones has done enough to warrant
trading Anthony Richardson?
Speaker 2 (35:40):
You know, I don't really see the need to trade
him in the next month, Eddie. Let me throw this
hypothetical at you. Okay, if Daniel Jones tears ACL tomorrow,
M and you're Chris Bauer, what are you doing? M
Are you calling the Giants for Jameis Winston or are
you rolling?
Speaker 1 (36:01):
Mm? That's a that's a loaded question there. Do you
call about Kirk Cousins We forgot about Kirk. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
I again, I would not trade Richardson in the next month.
I'd probably go ahead and roll with them. Then you'd
have to get to the end of the year, and then
you're having another combo of like, well, Daniel Jones's injury
history is that, you know, can you imagine that's the
next conversation that we had to have. I just don't
(36:34):
really see a strong appeal into trading Richardson.
Speaker 1 (36:38):
Right now.
Speaker 2 (36:39):
Like, if let's play this out. If you were the
Giants and Richardson was Russell Wilson, so Jackson Darter starting
Richardson would be the backup in jamis your third stringer,
then I could maybe, like see whatever trading Richardson. But
that's not the situation here with Riley Leonard.
Speaker 1 (36:54):
So I don't. I'm fine with that. I don't.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
Is trade value really going to change it that much?
In three Again, teams trading for Richardson right now are
not trading for him necessarily to come in and do
what Joe Flaco was doing in CINCI. No, they're thinking
a little bit more bigger picture. So but again, we
already saw a couple of trades and we're still a
month away. I mean it's early November the trade deadline.
Speaker 1 (37:14):
Again.
Speaker 2 (37:15):
Ballard has never been a big in season trade guy
at all. Nahim Hines really was a I want out.
I think it's the only in season trade in the
whole Ballard era.
Speaker 1 (37:22):
It's kind of wild. He just signed somewhere, didn't he.
Speaker 2 (37:24):
Yeah, Chargers, Yeah, going back out there practice squad. Another
team banged up with the Cults to play here in
a couple of weeks.
Speaker 1 (37:29):
Yeah, of course, Omar and Hampton going on injured reserve.
So Naji Harris, yeah, so he will miss that game
against the Indianapolis Colts in a couple of weeks. Steve
is next KB, longtime listener and never missed a show.
So we thank you so much for your dedication, Steve. Steve,
even through all the different producers and slash co host,
(37:50):
slash moderator, slash whatever you want to call us, amen
of that, that's a true dedicated fan right there. I'm curious.
This is Steve asking how the Jalen Jones and Jalen
Carli's injuries are going. What do you think about their
impact and what it will be if they return fully healthy.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
So again, neither window opened for them this week, even
though they are eligible. I don't get the impression that
this is something that's going to last the entire year
for them, So that's good news. He I do think
their returns could happen at some point here this month.
I think it's worth pointing out, Eddie, neither were very
high on the depth chart pre intory like. I got
(38:33):
the vibe with Jalen carlais like, oh boy, this isn't
looking great for him. Jalen Jones definitely, it wasn't looking great.
Now I would push, but I'm a big Jalen Jones guy.
I would like to see the same. Jalen Jones is
the I think if everyone's healthy right now in the secondary,
and you know, shout out to Chris A.
Speaker 3 (38:49):
Monts.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
I thought he did a nice job the other day.
But I think you roll with Shaveris Ward. Jalen Jones
is the outside guys. We'll see about Mikai Blackman and
then have Kenny there in the slot.
Speaker 1 (38:59):
But can Makai just learn how to stay on two feet?
Oh gosh, I know exactly. You know.
Speaker 2 (39:06):
Carlis the main Pratt thing is also you know a
little bit of a kind of wrench and probably his
thought process there. So you know, both of them play
positions of course where you have question marks right now.
But again I didn't get the grand park feel with
either of them. That was that that great before the injury?
Speaker 1 (39:23):
Why do you think it is other than the fact
they're not lou guys or is that just it?
Speaker 2 (39:28):
I I mean, I hate to act like that's like
I hate to like go down that path.
Speaker 1 (39:35):
But like, because like the tape, if you just watch it,
Jalen Jones like, hey, I am an NFL quarter Yeah.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
I can get like, you know, I know Carla's had
a nice I can get maybe a little bit with carlais.
Speaker 1 (39:44):
But to me, Jalen Jones got a lot of tape,
especially when you consider the fact, and I always keep
going back to they thought a guy who hadn't played
in two years or looted at least and Xavian Howard
was a better option than Jalen Jones and immediately put
him in the start of line up.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
I mean, yeah, that that's always That's one that will
just scratch my head on that one.
Speaker 1 (40:05):
Mm hm. Turp would like to know, is Ashton Doolan
the second best behind Tyler Warren? Just pure football player
on the Colts.
Speaker 2 (40:16):
Boy, that's a good one. How do you define that?
How do you define pure football player?
Speaker 1 (40:22):
Eddie Garrison?
Speaker 2 (40:23):
That is it EDWARDO on the birth certificate or Eddie
it's Edward Edward idiot?
Speaker 1 (40:30):
How do you define that? Pure football player? I don't know.
Is the guy that you can always count on to
show up and he's not gonna take any bs, like
variety of roles during that interview, just talking about, hey,
just get suck up some oxygen, you'll be good.
Speaker 2 (40:44):
If you send me name five football players in the Colts.
Doolan for sure, Warren for sure. Mean gotta say Quentin Nelson.
I would say Kenny Moore.
Speaker 1 (40:55):
The second is that here.
Speaker 2 (41:00):
I was gonna go Michael Pittman Jr. Because why that
man don't have any UFC pretty boy on him?
Speaker 1 (41:07):
And there it is. Have I told you that before
a time or two maybe I don't.
Speaker 2 (41:12):
Know, part of me thinks like, can this dude go
play on the other side of the football. I think
that's like maybe the best way I can describe football player,
Like could you go if we're if all of a
sudden we got a ton of injuries, you don't say
Franklin can line up at tight end. If we're the
class one A pioneer, what Tigers can we go out
there and you play both ways, Zion Franklin will probably
be close to being on that list as well. I mean,
(41:34):
obviously buck I mean Buckner, Grover, I mean, there's so
many guys, but I get where you're coming from.
Speaker 1 (41:39):
Turp So my Michael Pittman Jr.
Speaker 2 (41:42):
One thousand percent, one thousand Yeah.
Speaker 1 (41:46):
I also one thing to note here. I think I
would have to go back and look at this. I'm
pretty sure Jermaine Pratt was one of the main guys
that was a party that Bengals defense that kind of
helped neutralize Travis Kelsey when Kelsey was his prime. Because
when you go back and look at those when you
go back and look at those games of when the
(42:07):
Bengals were having success compared to unlike most of the
rest of the teams in the NFL at shutting him down,
they were the one team that could neutralize him. And
I think the combination of Jermaine Pratt and shoot, what's
his name, he's in Atlanta now the safety Jesse Bates.
Jesse Bates the combination of those who were able to
(42:28):
neutralize Travis Kelsey, and potentially that could be the game
plan if they can get everyone up to speed on
Sunday for Tripmick Brown.
Speaker 2 (42:36):
You will see some better tight ends here in the
next month or so.
Speaker 1 (42:38):
That's true. Cameron would like to know what are the
odds that Chris Ballard makes an end season move for
an edge rusher or linebacker. Well, we've already seen the
linebacker now, Cameron, so timely question. Cameron. AD's team looks
really good but has obvious holes.
Speaker 2 (42:54):
Yeah, you know, I'll go back to what I said earlier,
Cameron about the lack of end season trades with Ballard.
It's it's kind of wild. You know, eight years as
a GM and we've only seen the Hines one and
the Hins one. I wouldn't call it an outright sell,
but it was more of Nihim Hines wenty out than anything.
Speaker 1 (43:09):
So I feel like in season trades are just harder though,
because you've had all this camp.
Speaker 2 (43:12):
Sure stuff, but again, you were thinking eight years you'd
have more than one.
Speaker 1 (43:15):
That's true. Now has just made their third one in
franchise history. The second one game last year.
Speaker 2 (43:22):
Really from an nd season standpoint, Yeah, yeah, I get
that they are rarer in the NFL than they are
in other sports, but still usually see it whatever a
handful around the league each year.
Speaker 1 (43:32):
You know, obviously.
Speaker 2 (43:35):
You think back to the ball or ten year, they've
really never gotten off to a good start outside of
what twenty nineteen. Again, twenty nineteen you were five and two. Now,
that was the year that you probably felt like, if
you're going to be real critical of your evaluation, five
and two was a little bit fools gold. Clearly that's
how it played out. Whereas at this point, to me,
four and one, I mean, go back to what I
(43:58):
told you a little bit earlier. Ready, of the nine
teams over the past decade that have started with this
point differential, almost all of them have gone either A
into the playoffs or B won a playoff game, and
three of them went to the Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (44:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (44:12):
So if you believe that, and Ballard is a huge
point differential guy, he believes that is a strong indicator
of how good of a team you are. Does that
lead him to think, Hey, we need to put.
Speaker 1 (44:23):
A few more chips in the middle of the table. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (44:27):
Now they traded what a sixth for black men? Right,
so they have everything else in that draft. A Kaile
Blackman was a sixth rounder. So they have the fifth,
they have the seventh. Obviously they have one, two three four.
I mean, that'd be quite the move to trade one
two three four. But yeah, I I don't know how
many times Ballard. He certainly has not been in this
(44:48):
situation many times in his tenure, right, does he act differently?
Speaker 1 (44:52):
Acted differently in free agency? Yeah. I'm fascinated on the
edge part of this because it appears that right now
that LAT two has made significant strikes. You can't admit that,
but it feels like he's in the Sam Hubbard role
when he when lou was in Cincinnati, because Sam Hubbard
(45:12):
was another edge guy who has athletic he could drop
him into coverage like we've seen from time to time
to Law two. Could you know, he's pretty stout run defender,
and then you know he could win occasionally in past
rush And it just seems like that's the current role
that Law two has with lou Anrimo. So they just
got to find and Taekwon Lewis joined our show with
Jake Koream Company a couple of weeks ago, and he
(45:35):
was talking about just like one of the key differences
between you know, Gus Bradley's system and Low system is
that there's a lot more gap integrity and a lot
more gap focus compared to just trying to be disruptive
like Gus Bradley was. So I'm sure it's the scheme
and just that's the part of it. So that's why
we don't see the edge rush production that we clamor
(45:58):
and hope for.
Speaker 2 (45:59):
Yeah, I would like a little bit more from a
pressure standpoint. I think they're bottom ten right now in
pressure rate. I'd like for that. You know, that would
be one of these ones that you definitely look at
and say, all right, can it improve, especially as a
composition starts to improve.
Speaker 1 (46:14):
Three questions left. Evan is one of those finalists. It's
clear and obvious now that Shane Styke was never the
problem people wanted him fired, but his play calling has
for the most part, always been on point. It's been
his overall handling of the head coaching duties and decision
making and accountability that have been questioned, and that still
holds true this season. Citing gus last year, the handling
(46:38):
of the media and the ar benching last year, et cetera.
As much as Evan wants, as much as Evan was
an Anthony Richardson guy, it's been Ar's lack of consistency
and health that held this team back, and Daniel Jones
has by far been the better quarterback for this team.
Do you think Shane Steiking can continue to have this
(46:59):
type of a pro or will it eventually get him
in trouble at some point? Thanks? And have been loving
the Pods the last five to six years. Oh, thank you, Evan.
That's still a lot of Pods that is not as
loyal as Steve though, that's what you're saying. Yeah, but
he could get on Steve level.
Speaker 2 (47:16):
He's on the JV mount Rushmore here. In all seriousness,
thank you very much for a listening.
Speaker 1 (47:23):
Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 2 (47:25):
It's hard, Eddie, Like sometimes you get into these you know, Okay,
evaluate the head coach, evaluate the GM, who made what decision?
And it's weird of this operation because one has been
at it in his ninth year and one's been at
it in his third year. You know, it's just like, okay,
where are you at? Like did Styken have more say
on an Arumo. Clearly, Stikeen has mentioned that his past
(47:47):
history with Lou like I would.
Speaker 1 (47:50):
Think of facing him, right correct, that was.
Speaker 2 (47:53):
I think that was his higher And then I don't know,
do you look at Shane's history with you know, Daniel
Jones in the NFC East, did that kind of push it.
I don't think there was direct ties with Chris bou
you know, you go back to Shane was blown away
at his college visit.
Speaker 1 (48:07):
Of course, Alex Tanney was on the Alex Tanney was
on the Giants past game coordinator right for the Colts
or something like that.
Speaker 2 (48:12):
Right right, And I was Shane was really blown away
by Daniel's acumen in the college.
Speaker 1 (48:17):
Visit that they they did.
Speaker 2 (48:19):
That would have been when he was the Chargers, of course,
but when they went to Durham to.
Speaker 1 (48:23):
Visit with them.
Speaker 2 (48:23):
So, I you know, part of me is like, well,
you're just you know that you can't just discredit Chris
Boward like that. You can't just act like he didn't
have any say m h and clearly Ballad if you
want to look at this offseason, you know what did
change was certainly the free agent philosophy even if you
want to say, hey, Anna Ruma was more of the
Stike and higher Jones was whatever more than stikeing background,
(48:46):
Cam Biden and Savarious Ward. To me is a clear
change in process and that is what unquestionably A was
needed and be welcomed. And credit to Chris Boward for
you know, seeing that, I guess and and and.
Speaker 1 (48:59):
Acting upon it there.
Speaker 2 (49:00):
But yeah, and I mean there is part of me
with like, you know, how much and how quickly, if
at all, will we see carli Ers Gordon put a.
Speaker 1 (49:15):
Stamp on things? Mm hmm, good, bad? Indifferent?
Speaker 2 (49:19):
Or is it simply all I care about is what
happens on that football field?
Speaker 1 (49:25):
Or has she already made her stamp on things that
we just don't know yet? Right right? I guess I
mean a public stamp? Yeah, yeah, I don't. Yeah, behind
the scenes, you know who knows?
Speaker 2 (49:34):
I obviously when sadly, when free agency happened, her father
was so alive, right, so like you know, some of
those mandates potentially likely wouldn't have happened at that point,
you know, because like when you get the new boss atdie,
it's like should we all be scared?
Speaker 1 (49:50):
You know, like she doesn't strike me, Kevin as the one,
and you would probably know more just because of your
experience of interacting with her and working alongside her. She
doesn't seem like one that's going to micro manage a
mandate thing. She may be the one that you know
is like, hey, I'll let everyone do their job because
that's what you guys are being paid to do. That's
what I'm paying you to do. I'm paying you to coach,
(50:11):
I'm paying you to manage. You got to figure all
that stuff out. As long as I am, you know,
seeing a product on the field that I enjoy watching,
and it's a product that is competitive and that we're
winning games and there's a clear sense of direction on
where we are going. I'm perfectly fine with where things
are at.
Speaker 2 (50:27):
Right right, And again, how much of that is like, yes,
I'm not going to micromanage, but I also am going
to critically evaluate m M, you know, and just not
do it in a whatever, in a very demonstrative manner.
Injury report the DNPS Tyler Goodson Taekwon Lewis illness anymore
indeed did not practice and then braid.
Speaker 1 (50:48):
So it's just a rest day.
Speaker 2 (50:49):
So good news there for Brad Smith even though he
had that's leave on the right leg.
Speaker 1 (50:52):
Full for Alec Pierce, full for Grover Stewart. So good
news Grover Sturud. Of course, dealing with the bye bye
ups plural.
Speaker 2 (51:01):
I'm always confused by that. Does that mean both arms?
Do you only have one bicepp?
Speaker 1 (51:05):
I thought it was one bicep and two biceps.
Speaker 2 (51:08):
Can't say mine or have any definition on them, so
you might make the argument that I have none.
Speaker 1 (51:12):
So last week we had British Jake and just a Jake,
and I thought that might have been Jake Querry, the
guy I work with. You know, so many questions for
whatever the reason. Now we get a JB. Now is
his teams Boyd a Canadian James Boyd or is this
a different JB from Canada.
Speaker 2 (51:25):
James Boyd is passionate, he is dedicated. I really hope
he's not sending questions the spot that man needs.
Speaker 1 (51:31):
To rest a little bit. All right, JB from Canada,
We're coming for the Colts game. Well we welcome you.
Have fun, enjoy Indianapolis on JB states, We've done all
the touristy things. What's a must do slash see in Indianapolis?
Any hidden gyms in the stadium. Where should we go
watch the four PM games? Well, Eddie, I might toss
(51:54):
this back to you. Jim's in the stadium. I mean
I can't.
Speaker 2 (51:58):
I've probably seen six sporting events of my life inside
of Lucas Oil Stadium, and they are like a Notre
Dame football game, a National championship football games, Eddie, any
must spots inside of Lucas Oil Stadium.
Speaker 1 (52:12):
I haven't been there this year yet, so I don't
know if they've changed anything. I always liked going over
by the main entrance by the Manning statue, uh huh,
and walking in that way just because you've got the
horseshoe there, you got the Lucas soil where the anvilas. Yes, yeah,
that's where all that stuff's at.
Speaker 2 (52:29):
Yeah. I mean I'm probably and I say this for
like any stadium. I'm kind of like a if I can,
then the schedule allows for I like to get in
there whatever forty five minutes early and just kind of
walk around, just get a lay of the land, see
what's in there.
Speaker 1 (52:42):
You know, looks like it's gonna be an awesome fall
day in Indy. Now, in terms of flippery Noodle, where
the four PM games. Tom's watch buyer would probably be
on the watch bar. You've got a kill Roy's and
a Brothers downtown.
Speaker 2 (52:58):
Yardhouse. You've got against slippering noodle. I think is just
a cool place to kind of definitely see either pre
or post. You know. As far as other things to do,
I'm trying to think. We don't have any what college
football home games? Notre Dame is home, but nothing in
blooming Center or West off Yette Pacers have a home
preseason game right a thunder. Yeah, So I think Gamber's
Shield House is awesome. So I would definitely check that
(53:20):
out if you're not doing anything else. I don't know
if there were any other shows or anything going on downtown,
you know either.
Speaker 1 (53:25):
Yeah, I'm not up to date.
Speaker 2 (53:27):
I'm just trying to survive.
Speaker 1 (53:29):
Last question is from a loyal listener flipping, what's your log?
Speaker 2 (53:34):
Miller's the bar? That sounded like Senor Sancho stopped there,
and you know.
Speaker 1 (53:38):
I wasn't going to bring that one up. Final question
is from Flipping, what's your revised record slash ceiling for
this team? Kevin?
Speaker 2 (53:47):
That's a good question, you know, Oftentimes I like to
get at least to the midway point and not like
bail on my preseason thought.
Speaker 1 (53:54):
What was your preseason thought?
Speaker 2 (53:55):
It was nine and eight, nine wins I had for
the Colts, which I think, based off some of my colleagues,
I think I was a little bit more on the
optimistic side than a few of them.
Speaker 1 (54:10):
What did I have right now?
Speaker 2 (54:11):
I think I had four and two after this week,
So when would put them at five and one? Obviously
they've played football a lot more impressively than I thought
they would. You know, part of me, outside of just
the peer win losses, I really feel like there is
an opportunity for this team to play better, even though
(54:31):
the schedule I think will be difficult in the second
half of the season. I'm curious, like, what is this
confidence going to do for them? Yeah, they've never started
like this, so again, you can look at it one
way out. You're reading your press clippings too much, okay?
Speaker 1 (54:44):
Sure?
Speaker 2 (54:45):
Or does belief lead to more success? And honestly, the
one that probably believes the most right now is a quarterback,
and when that position believes and is performing, you can
do a lot of things here. So I'd probably reset
the over under so seven a half at the start
of the year, I went with nine. I would go, boy,
(55:08):
what would you reset it at Vegas ten and a half?
Speaker 1 (55:11):
Eleven and a half. So it's funny, Jake and I
do almost weekly now where just because of how fickle
and week to week the league is. Right, well, dude,
the rest of the season colts predictions, and like when
we did this on Monday, I had them at twelve
and five.
Speaker 2 (55:26):
If you want to twelve, I mean, when you look
at it and map it out, I certainly hear you out.
I mean we talked a little bit Mark and I
on Monday. They'll probably be an underdog next week, but
like you can make the case they're not another like
legit underdog until Kansas City.
Speaker 1 (55:46):
I mean, there's still even a chance they may not
even be an underdog next week, depending on how how
banged up Chargers are and how they look this week.
Not mistaken. I think the Chargers have Miami.
Speaker 2 (55:55):
You want to talk about a long trip home after
that one there, I'll go eleven. You're going twelve, I'll
go eleven. If you're setting the over under, I think
the eleven and a half would be appropriate. Yeah, yeah, gosh,
which is a big number.
Speaker 1 (56:07):
Man, yeah.
Speaker 2 (56:08):
I mean, you look at it, there's not a lot
of NFL teams that are, even with the seventeen game schedule,
that are reaching that point.
Speaker 1 (56:15):
And you know Jacksonville.
Speaker 2 (56:16):
I mean, gosh, man, I I the factor four and
one is kind of wild. Like, if the Colts lose
Sunday and Jacksonville wins. As great as the Colt season
has been so far, they be second on the AFC South,
they'll have lost the AGEC South again. But the season
that did it, which is crazy to think with how
well they've played now, I think Jacksonville's more fools gold
though if you look at it right now, they're forcing
(56:36):
a million.
Speaker 1 (56:36):
Turnover fourteen turnovers leading the league. That can't continue.
Speaker 2 (56:41):
It can't, but hey, credit to them for Monday Night.
I was a wild one, and I get there was.
That was one of the more entertaining games I've seen here.
Speaker 1 (56:50):
Prediction time Kevin.
Speaker 2 (56:52):
Twenty three sixteen Colts and frankly, if Kyler Murray doesn't play,
it'll be bigger than that.
Speaker 1 (56:58):
I think it's still like twenty six thirteen with or
without him. With him without him, it's like ten no
love for Jacoby and maybe I'm I mean of course
that's me giving them a touchdown they didn't get one
to getting Raiders. Raiders didn't give them one. Arizona was
(57:19):
better than the Raiders, right, I mean without I mean
the Raiders were, to be fair, the Raiders were over
four in the red zone.
Speaker 2 (57:24):
I don't mean that's kind of and an omly on that.
But nonetheless both of us think Colts over Cardinals in
Week six, Eddie Garrison enjoy Vak. We'll talk to you
on Monday recapping Colts and Cardinals
