Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good evening everyone. It is Halloween, five o'clock in the evening.
I'm here in the beautiful Oceaneo Beach, which we live,
at the end of the street, right at the where
the Intercoastal Waterway comes together with creeks, and we have
nothing on the front side of the house and water
on the backside. Water excuse me, water on the front
(00:22):
and water on the back and water on the side.
So no, we get no trigcker treaters here, So we're
kind of isolated back here. So an X murderer could
come in and do us in, but there is no
trick or treaters, so why not do a podcast instead?
In fact, I'm assuming many of you are out with
your children or handing out candy. Always loved doing that
(00:44):
when we lived in the suburbs. It was fantastic. Today
we are talking in the Kansas City Royal System. It's
a it's a system that's light at the top. Though
I do like Carter Jensen a lot. I happened a
couple of Dinasya leagues. I'm pretty excited about them. But
then it's kind of a void at the triple A,
(01:05):
double A level. But guys in low Way and high
AI that are moving up. They've got some interesting guys
that I mean, not all of them are going to click,
but if a couple of them click, they could they
could be there could be some really interesting guys coming along.
Some of their draft picks are pretty pretty interesting as
well as Beel Gonzalez is a speedster that might be
(01:30):
one of those rabbits that develops a little bit of power.
So there's some interesting guys in this system. So without
further ado, let's get going. The AI Assistant has Carter
Jensen as his only Fantasy impact target. He puts Kendree
Cheerio in front of Blake Mitchell. I have Blake Mitchell
(01:51):
in front of Kendree Cheerio. But if I look back
at it, and and actually one of our Patreon members
gave me a really great quest question today. If you're
at a draft, who would and Patreon members and anybody
reading my stuff, who would you rather trust at a draft?
(02:13):
My rankings are the AI assistants ranking. So I thought
about it a little bit and I said, probably the
AI assistant because again it's all the same information. My
writings are what the AI assistant knows. But sometimes my
emotion gets in the way and not willing to give
(02:34):
up on players kind of get in the way. But
if I'm strictly looking at, you know, kind of core
strength and core skills. I mean, Kendred Cheerier looks like
Uri Perez. I mean, just he just blew through the
DSL and low A. So I can really see that
as him being the number two prospect in the system
(02:55):
and Blake Mitchell being number three. So I definitely see that.
But kind of ansering his question, I think, over time,
as my AI assistant learns a lot more in the
algorithms that Microsoft and open AI and everybody else are creating,
becomes even more, it becomes even better. Still saying more
(03:15):
better becomes better, and the reasoning algorithms become that much better.
I mean, I think it's it's all going to be
about the AI assistant. I mean that'll be It'll be
like me, who has all the knowledge I have that
I've forgotten half of the AI as system has all
of that, and he has better reasoning than me, right,
(03:36):
because you know, computer should have better reasoning, an AI
computer should have better reasoning than a human being. But
as I told Bob, who was the one that sent
me the note. It's like, but the one thing that
you have to remember, there's no we don't have a
history yet with this guy, so I would probably still
use my rankings, but you know, like stuff like this
(03:58):
where you see Kendrick cheer in front of Blake Mitchell
and I have Blake Mitchell in front of Cheerio. Yeah,
I mean I could definitely see that, And that's that
was the whole idea about doing this. It's like, hey,
I'm giving you my rankings, and for the most part,
I think you'll find that the AI assistance rankings are
somewhat the same, but there are there are usually some
(04:19):
differences as we kind of go through it, and I
just really want to hidelight that. So I think if
you're using my work, I would still use my rankings
for this season, but they're going to start to merge
together as assuming my assistant becomes as good as they
think he's going to become, and then it's you know,
(04:40):
it's it's all going to be there. And again, this
is all premeditated. So in fact, I wrote a post
to Patreon members very early one. Most of them don't
even know about this because we'd have very many members
in the first couple of months, and that was kind
of went through my vision of the site, and it
was to really start to incorporate a lot more artificial
(05:02):
intelligence into the environment. And the technology wasn't there two
and a half years ago when I started this, and
it's just a lot better now. So it's and it's
going to get much better. In fact, they saw in
the news today where it's you know, they're still using
robotics where people are controlling them, but they're getting close
(05:24):
to the robots can actually think on their own. And
it's just crazy stuff that's out there. It's amazing and
I've just seen it in my little world here. Anyway,
let's dig in here. Carter Jensen. Cart Jensen, we saw
in the major leagues actually played pretty well, played well,
started off in Double A, made it up to Triple A,
(05:46):
didn't you know. I was really strong on Jensen coming
out of last season twenty twenty four. Got off to
a bit of a slow start in twenty twenty five
and Double A, and then of course gets into the
Pacific Coast League and even though it's not the the
California side or the you know, the Southern is really
(06:07):
the area where all the where all the hitters parks are,
but it's still the Pacific Coast League and they play
all over the place. It's like six forty seven with
fourteen home runs in just forty three games, and he
got the promotion. I mean it was look at three
oh six, four or five, six, eleven and thirteen games.
So I think there's I think there's something here. I
(06:30):
think it's definitely a chance to be a top fifteen catcher.
I think it's fifteen to twenty home run pop. It's
not going to be a great batting average because I
mean there is some swing and missing his game, but
he walks a lot, So it could be like a
fifteen to twenty hard run guy with a three thirty
one base percentage to fifty batting average and that's, you know,
top fifteen catcher. I mean, it's probably in the eleven
(06:51):
to fifteen range. It's not going to be a I
don't think he can grow into South Perez and I
just don't think he's ever going to have that kind
of I think he's a think he's going to be
good and he's a good catcher, so you know, so
I think there there is all that and south Perez
as he gets older. I think he's thirty seven next
(07:12):
season going on memory. If so, I mean south Press
is not going to catch that much. Press might be
playing a lot more DH So, I think Carter Jensen
is one of those guys that you can probably get
as a second catcher, and if he's available there it's
somebody I'm probably gonna target. I've got number two Blake Mitchell,
who had a tough season. Still a ton of athleticism.
(07:36):
Sorry about that, I beans my little eleven year old Yorkie,
pooh at it. Stop and get him, stop him from
doing something. So anyway, back to Blake Mitchell, obviously, when
you break your handmaip on, that is really a bad
sign that it's going to take a while for your
(07:56):
power to come back. We saw a three twenty slug
as a result, but an alarming thirty two percent strikeout ring.
That was the thing that I didn't really understand. I mean,
a broken handmap and recovery from that should affect the power,
but not swing and missing his game. But you know,
his approach might be a little too passive. But look,
(08:19):
he was a number one draft pick. I still think
there's some value there for deep leagues, and you're stashing
them down for a while. He should be in double A.
Hopefully twenty twenty six will be fully healthy. He can
get off the slide well and turn back into an
elite prospect. But at the moment, I mean he is,
(08:39):
he's out of the you know, the the elite of
the elite prospects. Now, let me see where I have
him ranked. Let me bring up the tough prospects. Switch
it to the Kansas City Royals. Let's see the Kansas
City Royals. Click that one. Yeah, so I got him.
I still got a one fifty six. I got Hendry
(09:02):
Kendry Cheerio at one seventy six. So, I mean, that's
pretty crazy in terms of where I have Cheerio. And
so the next guy is Kendry Cheerio. I mean, I
don't know what else to say here. It was pretty remarkable,
only a two hundred and fifty forty seven thousand dollars signed,
fifty five strikeouts, five walks, and fifty one innings. It
(09:24):
was impressive. Seventeen strikeouts and no walks in three complex
league starts. Got up the low way and you know,
struggled a little bit but man, it's just ridiculous stuff
for an eighteen year old. I think he started obviously
started season as a seventeen, So they're moving quickly and
I get it. And there's a good chance that he
(09:44):
is n high A at the end of next season.
And believe it or not, I've got his ETA at
twenty twenty seven to twenty eight. I think they're going
to move him quickly because again, the the the Royals
want to win now. I mean they got vinnyp They've
got they got mechl Garcia and and Bobby Witt Junior,
(10:04):
with Junior signed long term. But you know with junior,
you know you'll blink and he'll be twenty eight, twenty
nine years old. So they need to strike why the
iron hot irons hot, and if Kendrick Chugio could help
them soon, I think he will. He should be owned
at this juncture in all kind of fantasy leagues that
have one hundred and fifty, one hundred and two hundred prospects.
(10:24):
I mean he is. He is that elite at the
moment guy that I've always been high on as Louender Avilia.
I think he's going to he saw the major leagues
a bit. That's leuender U I l u I n
d er avelia a v I l A. I think
he's going to be moved to the bullpen. You know
when he was moved to the bullpen last season was
(10:46):
up to ninety nine miles an hour. He's got a
great curve ball, so it's swinging miss stuff. He doesn't
always throw strikes. He's had some shoulder problems that have
caused some some issues. But I think he moves to
the back of the bullpen. It could be a really
interesting guy over the next couple of years as a
potential closer opportunities they I think the Royals are always
(11:06):
going to need starters, as all teams are going to
need starters. I wouldn't be surprised if he can. They
try to continue to have him start. We'll see if
the body holds up. And I do like the player
a lot. Sean Gamble was their first pick number twenty three.
Remember the Roos had good thing isn't in twenty twenty four,
so they picked late. It's a high school kid, seventy runner,
(11:29):
good bad speed, so it's the speed and power that
fantasy managers are looking for. There's two problems, hit tool
is extremely raw, and he was an older draft age player,
and usually when you see that, it doesn't end well. Right,
So guys that are he was an old eighteen year
(11:49):
old that was drafted. He's already nineteen years old, he
has yet to play, and now he's going to be
competing against seventeen and eighteen year olds. If he probably
started in low way, so it's probably gonna be age
appropriate for him. But he's a high school graduate and
he's gonna be playing with against guys who are nineteen
years old as well, but have two years of experience
(12:10):
underneath them. Because that complex league has become heavily Latin oriented,
so you're gonna get guys that can really throw hard,
might not know exactly where the ball's going, but they
might have already thrown three seasons. And Sean Gamble hasn't
played yet, so it's going to be pretty interesting how
(12:31):
this all works out. And yet he's going to be
as old, if not older than some of those players
that he's going up against. I do think I might
be interested in him in the second round, though, in
first year player droughts, I think there's really a lot
of high upside there, so might be a guy if
I've got a really good team and he waits and
(12:51):
I'm picking late in the second round, might be a
guy that I gamble on. That Sean Gamble and Old
Ricardo switch hitter, bat speed, emerging power. The question is
always on these guys is going to hit. He has
put it a little bit of weight on. We're seeing
the muscle com We've seen the power emerge. He was
(13:12):
a high end guy from Cuba, two and a half
million dollars signing bonus, so you like that. It looks
like he's starting to develop a little bit. So there's
not gonna be a ton of foot speeds and not
a ton of stolen bases kind of a I don't
think they've decided yet, And where he's gonna play probably
winds up at third base. So that is Yandel Ricardo
(13:34):
and again coming in low way. So you're seeing a
lot of these guys. You figure Sean Gamble is going
to be in low A, Jando Ricardo is gonna be
in low Way. Kendrick Churio is probably gonna start a lawyer.
There's that low eight team is going to be gonna
be some really interesting guys there and Josh Hammond is
another very interesting guys. He was a he was a
pitcher outfielder, kind of drafty and the Royals announced him
(14:01):
as a hitter, so we'll see. I mean it was
a pretty good pitcher and it was pretty good pitching prospect,
fastballs up the ninety seven miles an hour. But if
he can't hit enough, which might be the case, then
he'll have to fall back and become a pitcher. But
seventy grade raw. It's big left handed swing with a
(14:22):
lot of loft in a swing, so it's you know,
his swing is built for power. So yeah, so that's Hammond.
He's third base. Probably he'll move to an outfield spot
and we'll see. If it moves to an outfield spot'll
be right field. Take advantage of his arms arm. Another
really interesting guy right because he was a Sandwich pick
(14:42):
for Bobby Wood Junior, kind of coming in second for
the MVP. The Royals got that pick, and I think
Josh Hammond's a pretty interesting guy. Again, is he going
to hit enough? Don't know. Coming Number eight is another
guy in low way should start the season hi A.
So another guy will probably high a double A next season.
(15:04):
The Shields was really good. Doesn't have big stuff fast
only since ninety to ninety two, but he doesn't walk
anybody really good secondary pitches, got a great slider change
up might even be a little bit better than that,
I think long term. So not a command and control guy,
but because a left handed you can get away with
(15:26):
ninety to ninety two. But if he can get that
fastball up city ninety two to ninety four, touching ninety five,
which sounds like a lot and it is, but definitely doable.
You could see somebody really start to emerge here. So
that's David Shields again, really solid here through through this
(15:47):
middle section with some of the other guys that are
in front. I mean, Avilia is Almo's baked, so you
put him up there and Blake Mitchell's you know kind
of we're not sure about it, but you know, you
look at Kendrey Cherio at three, a sea On Gamble
at five, Yendo Riccardio at six, Josh Hammond at seven,
(16:07):
David Shields at eight, and yet another guy in low
way that high A team double A is going to
be really strong. Asmil Gonzales for a while and was
leading the leading the minor leagues and stolen bases and
in the end sold seventy eight basis to get caught
twenty six times. So that's not good, right, So I'd
(16:29):
like to see a little bit better marked than that.
But he does make really good contact seventeen percent, strikeout rate, reasonable,
very good walk rate at eleven percent. He is a
little bit of a slappy hitter, but I think there's
enough size at six foot two that if he starts
to stay back on the ball a little bit and
(16:49):
he might be able to develop a bit of power.
And I think he's a guy that I've I've grabbed
on a couple of dynasty leagues and I'm pretty happy
with it, because again, I got the floor of a speedster,
a rabbit as Tim would call him. But I've got
a guy that might develop into some power if he
can change his swing mechanics, and I think that's totally possible.
(17:13):
So it's a guy that I'm pretty interested in. Number
ten is Gavin Cross that looks like so far might be.
He was the first round draft a couple of years ago,
and the platoon splits have really emerged as he's gotten
into the upper levels of the minor leagues, and that
you see that happen all the time, and it's really
hard to predict that unless you see game after game
(17:33):
after game and guy having trouble picking up same side arms.
So if you're a left handed hitter, the left handed
pitchers at the lower levels of the minor leagues are
so bad that you know that a lot of these
fastballs they can pick up. But also you start to
get a guy that has a little bit of deception
in his delivery. Baby throws across his body a little bit,
(17:56):
and these guys just can't pick it up. And that's
why the blatoon splits really start to emerge. Now. The
problem is that there's not a ton of scouts anymore. Right,
everybody's using technology to scout, and you can't Some of
the old time scouts could pick that stuff up and
would tell, you know, telefront office and when the kid
was or when the kid was going to be drafted,
(18:17):
they didn't think he could hit left handed left handed
pitching if he's a left handed hitter. But that just
doesn't exist anymore. But Gavin Cross, you know, there's speed,
there's power, a lot of speed, decent power, strikes out
too much, doesn't walk enough and he's got platoon splits.
So it's a guy that I was pretty high on
(18:38):
when they drafted him. I thought he'd be a lot
more and now he is sitting at two eighty, so
he has really really fallen and the on a downward trajectory.
So he probably will see Triple A next season. I'll
probably see the Royal System or see Kansas City at
some time at the end of next season. But that
is a top ten. It's it's a quiet good top ten.
(19:01):
They don't have a lot of famous guys there after
Carter Jensen, though. Kendree Cheerio's really made a name for himself,
at least in the nerdy prospect circles that I run in.
He's really made his name for a name for himself.
But there's some really interesting guys here in the top
ten and some more interesting names as we get to
(19:21):
the second half again. If you want to become you
want to get all twenty names, become a Patreon member,
Patrio in dot com former slash Prospect three sixty one
and join us out there. It is five dollars a
month or fifty four dollars for the entire year, so
you get a savings of one month. That is it.
(19:42):
I'm going to play a quick little music thing here
so I can find where the break is and we'll
see everybody on Sunday and our Patreon members hangling out
to the back. Ten
