Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good evening and welcome to Network Indiana's Indiana's Sports Talk.
I'm Medi Garrison filling in for the coach Bob Lovell.
We're thirty minutes into the program, and if you're just
joining us, you missed down on our conversation with Greg
Rakestraw talked to a little Indy eleven Indianapolis Colts and
some high school football as well. Still to come, Scott Agnes,
James Boyd will join us, Casey Valier, Brendan King, Howard Kelman.

(00:23):
But the voice you want to hear right now is
Network Indiana's landing Coons.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Eddie Garrison is an r to be with you here
on this Saturday night along with our producer Jays Hodge
and all you Indy crew. Let's get right into Colts camp.
Zire Franklin had his first practice back. Here's lou Anarumo
and Remo, I should say on the linebacker room.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
Here's the good news about that room, as we're still
working through it and it's you know what practice seven
eight today, whatever it is. We haven't even played a
preseason game, so I love the competition that's going on
in there, and all that will sort itself out as
we get through these joint practices that we're having, and
the good news is I believe will come out of
it with a deep room. I want to be able
to use those guys, whatever their strengths may be, to

(01:03):
the best of our ability, and I feel like all
of them at some point will help us.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
It's also a tail of two quarterbacks. Anthony Richson had
a rocky day, going three for ten, Dale Jones quite
the opposite. This pretty solid day from him going eleven
for fourteen. Also a pretty good day for a d Mitchell.
Here's Jim Bob Cooter.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
He's done a really nice job making plays this past week.
He's had a bunch of opportunities, Like all these receivers,
sometimes you get a few more, you get a few less.
Each week, AD's number has been called a few times,
and the quarterbacks have looked his way a few extra times,
and he's taking advantage of those things. You know, we had,
you know, a little backed up situation today and shoot
quarterback looked out there and saw ad Mitchell one on one,

(01:44):
I'm gonna throw it to a d He's gonna get
us out of this backed up situation. And he was
there for the quarterback. He was open. So as a receiver, shoot,
it's our job. At your job. Everything you can do
to get open, every play, make every catch. You can
keep improving as a player. He's doing that.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Practice continues tomorrow from ten am to eleven thirty. Then
the Baltimore Ravens will host the Colts in a joint
practice session on Tuesday, August fifth. Then about a week later,
the Inneapolis Colts will host the Green bat Packers in
a joint practice on Thursday, August fourteenth. The Indiana Fever
are looking for their fifth win in a row after
taking down the Dallas Wingings last night eighty eight to

(02:21):
seventy eight. Kelsey Mitchell was league scorer with twenty three points.
The Fever will travel to Seattle tomorrow to take on
the Storm. Tip off for that game was at three pm.
You can watch that game on ABC or you can
listen to it on our flag Ship station on ninety
three five and one oh seven to five of the Fan.
As for the MLB, Baltimore Orioles came back to trying

(02:41):
three to nothing at the eighth inning to win four
to three the Detroit Tigers seven to five over the
Philadelphia Phillies Cleveland Guardians five to four over the Minnesota Twins.
The Speedway Classic at Bristol Motor Speedway between the Cennes
Sindy Reds and the Atlanta Braves is underway, but the
rain is coming back down Reds having early one nothing
lead bottom of the first one out, two on base.

(03:03):
And then little ball later here just a little bit,
we'll hear from the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles
Angels game. In terms of the MiLB. The Indianapolis Indians
get the five to win over the Iowa Cubs with
from Howard Calman hearn a little bit. The South Bend
Cubs take down the Quad Cities Rivers bandits one nothing.
We'll hear from Brendan King a little bit later, and
the Great Lakes Loons take down the four wing tim Caps.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
Eighteen to three.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
We just heard from Greg greg Stow with India eleven
lose three to one to the Tampa Bay Rowdies. And
then tomorrow the NASCAR Cup Series back in action at
the Iowa Speedway for the Iowa Corn three to fifty.
Chase Brisco Mitchell, Indian Aazona's back on pole. It's a
sixth pole of twenty twenty five. Most of any driver
saw this on Twitter A little bit ago A fun fact.
Chase Briscoe has many pole positions in his twenty three

(03:48):
race hits so far with Joe Gibbs Racing, and as
a reminder, he replaced champion Martin Shreks Junior. He collected
more poles this year. The Trucks has collected his entire
two hundred and sixteen race tenure with the organization and
the top ten starting lineup for tomorrow's race, Chase Briscoe
and William Byron will share that front. Rowe Kyle Larson,
Austin Cindric makeup Road number two, Brad Keselaski and Ryan Blaney,

(04:10):
he was the defending winner from a year ago, will
occupy Real number three. Road number four will be Carson
Hosovar and Chase Elliott and Row number five a j
Allmendinger and winning back Indiana's own Justin Haley. The Brickyard
four hundred champion Bubba Wallace will start fifteenth. Christopher Bell,
he was fastest in practice, He'll start seventeenth. Kyle Busch
had a nasty crash and practice. He will start dead last.

(04:33):
In thirty seventh. Here this little bit, we'll go over
the NASCAR Swindy Series and what went down in Iowa.
For Network Indiana Sports, I'm Wayna Coons.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
It is Network Indiana's Indiana's Sports Talk, brought to you
by Indiana Donor Network. Their website driven the Number two
Saved Lives dot org. That's where you can sign up
to be an organ or tissue donor today to help
save lives in the future. Anyone can sign up to
be an organ donor. There are no age limits or
health restrictions to signing up to be one. Every ten minutes,

(05:07):
someone is added to the donor transplant winning list and
there are more than thirteen hundred Hoosiers waiting for a
life saving organ transplant. By signing up to be an
organ and tissue donor, you can help save eight lives
and heal seventy five others. Once again, in the website
driven the number two Save Lives dot Org. Right now,
the hottest team in the WNBA is the Indiana Fever.

(05:30):
They have won four consecutive games and they're seven and
two right now in their last nine and they have
officially played more games without Kitlin Clark than they have
with her, Indiana's played twenty eight games. They have played
fifteen games without Kitlin Clark, and after the win last night,
they're eight and seven on the season. They're nine and

(05:50):
seven if you include that WNBA Commissioner's Cup Championship win
over the Minnesota Links and then without Kitlin Clark obviously
thirteen games, the Fever have a winning record there as well.
They are eight and five, so they are finding stability
without the superstar. In the WNBA. They are right now

(06:13):
fifth in the league if the playoffs started tomorrow, because
they have the head to head tiebreaker as of now
against the Seattle Storm. They've only played once. The Fever
won once that was in Seattle. Those two teams play
tomorrow and the last game will be in Gamebridge Field House,
So if the Fever can win tomorrow take care of

(06:36):
business in Seattle, then they'll lock up that tiebreaker for
the positional standings when it comes to playoff time. In
terms of seeding, there are half a game behind Phoenix,
who they will face on this road trip that they're
currently on that will end on the seventh. That's the
final game of the four game road trip. Atlanta and
Indiana tie this season series two games apiece and Indiana

(06:58):
sits a game behind the dream for third and second.
Right now is the New York Liberty. They're dealing with
a multitude of injuries. Breonna Stewart's a big name there.
That's why they're seventeen to ten, and they have struggled
as of late, losing four consecutive games. Kennedy Burke is
one of the best three point shooters in the w
She has been out and Niana Sabali is out for

(07:19):
two weeks. She's their backup center to John Couell Jones
and she plays a good amount of minutes on a
nightly basis. So that is three key figures a part
of the rotation for the Liberty that are out. And
this is a very important stretch for the Indiana Fever.
And you may be wondering, well, when is Caitlin Clark
going to return? If you just look at the schedule,
Indiana's playing every other day until August seventeenth, and that

(07:45):
is very, very hard to do with a player coming
off an injury. Because Stephanie White joined Querying Company on
Tuesday this week and she explained the challenges that are
going to be in front of the fever when trying
to integrate her back into the rotation.

Speaker 5 (08:01):
We'll have to have Caitlin go through practices before we
throw her out there into a game again, you know,
making sure that we're really taking this slow. Oh you know,
last time she felt good, so she got medical practice
if any, and then then thrown out there into the game.
You know, this time, we're going to make sure that
we get multiple practices, she gets through some for lack

(08:22):
of a better term, kind of benchmarks that we don't
see any regression. And so yeah, I mean it makes
it tough because we are playing every other day. We're
playing every other day, and then you know, we're traveling
out west, and so every time you travel there's inflammation
that happens on airplanes, rest recovery, time zone changes, all
of those things that affect your body as well as
your mind.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
So that next window that the Fever have for Kitlyn
Clark to kind of string together some practices on the
floor is after their Sunday game on the seventeenth in
Connecticut against the Sun. They will have four days off
after that, so have the eighteenth, nineteenth, twentieth, and twentyth
first off. They will play the Minnesota Links on Friday,
August the twenty second. That is the first of three

(09:06):
meetings between the two teams during the regular season. They
met in that WNBA Commissioner's Cup game in the championship,
but they haven't played in the regular season just yet.
So they'll play three times, you know, in the final
two plus weeks of the season, and that's probably the
ideal time. And if I had to pinpoint and circle
a date on the calendar as to Wainn Caitlin Clark

(09:26):
will make an appearance off of the right groin injury,
That's probably where I'm going, just because the schedule between
now and then for the fever is very favorable. Seattle
is the best team that they will play during the stretch,
Los Angele, Seattle, and Phoenix. So they have Seattle tomorrow.
On Tuesday they have the Los Angeles Sparks, and then

(09:47):
on Thursday the seventh, they have the Phoenix Mercury. Then
they come home for three games against three of the
worst teams than the WNBA, the Chicago Sky, the Dallas Wings,
and the Washington Mystics. Then they go on the road
on at August seventeenth. That's that final game that I
believe that Caitlyn Clark will not be playing that is
in Connecticut against the son who is literally the worst

(10:07):
team in the WNBA, even though they did pick up
a big win last night against the New York Liberty.
So things right now for Indiana, they have to capitalize
on this upcoming stretch while they don't have Caitlin Clark,
so when she comes back for however many games it
is the final ten or so, she can just be
inserted into that lineup and pick up right where they
left off and hopefully improve that playoff positioning. Colts Camp

(10:30):
is in full swing. Casey Valier joins us next to
recamp what he has seen so far from Grand park.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
Landon kuns here for yet another Indiana Sports Talk scoreboard update.
Inside the MLB, the Baltimore Orioles came back three after
being down three to nothing in the eighth inning to
come back and win four to three over the Chicago Cubs,
Detroit Tigers seven to five over the Philadelphia Phillies, Cleveland
Guardians five to four over the minute of the Minnesota Twins.
Right now, the Speedway Classic from Bristol Motor Speedway featuring

(11:03):
the Atlanta Braves and the Cincinnati Reds. Back under a
weather delay, Reds out of an early won nothing lead
at the bottom of the first inside the MiLB the
Indianapolis Indians get the five to two win over the
Iowa Cubs. South Ben Cubs won nothing over the Quad
Cities River Bandits, and the Great Legs Luones eighteen to
three over the four winning ten Caps. Chase Briscoe on

(11:25):
poll for tomorrow's NASCAR Cup Series Iowa corn three point
fifty from the Iowa Speedway, his sixth pole of the
twenty twenty five He'll start alongside William Byron on the
front row Green Flags tomorrow at three o'clock. You can
watch that on USA. Inside the NASCAR Xfinity Series, the
High v pers two to fifty from the Iowa Speedway.
Sam Mayor goes back to back at Iowa for his

(11:46):
second win there, first win of twenty twenty five, and
the first win for his new team, the Hoss Factory
Team and Ford for the twenty twenty five season. It's
his eight eighth career win top ten in that race.
Sam Mayor, Jesse Love, Ross, Chastan Connors, Zilich, Harrison Burton,
Carson host of Ar Sheldon Creed, Ryan Seeg, Carson Quopple,
and Christian Echis. Round twenty three of the twenty twenty

(12:08):
five nascarix Finity Series is the Mission two hundred from
Watkins Glenn International. That race will be Saturday, August ninth
at three o'clock. You can watch that on the CEDW
and Indy eleven getting a loss some of the Tam
Bay rowties three to one. For Network Indiana Sports, I'm
Lanta Goons.

Speaker 1 (12:30):
Welcome back to Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk Amti Garrison
filling in for the coach, Bob Lovell. The final show
of the summertime without coach. He makes his return next weekend,
So that is going to be a nice welcome to
coach because that means high school football is right around
the corner. But right now we're in NFL mode. The
Indianapolis Colts, they are eight practices in, they have five

(12:53):
to go. Someone who's been there for all eight of
them thus far and will be there for the next
five is Casey Valier, the in game studio host and
the radio coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts. That joins us. Now,
Casey through eight practices, I know the first question you
typically get in any interview or conversation you have, whether
that's you're out in public or hanging out with friends
is the quarterback position. So I'm going to stay away

(13:15):
from that from here at the start. What stood out
to you the most through eight practices thus far outside
of the quarterbacks, You.

Speaker 6 (13:21):
Know, I think it's the defense, to be honest, because
a lot of times what you see, especially with the
new defense, is that it takes them a little while
to kind of get up to speed. And yes, this
team had the OTA period where you know the team
was together working on installs and doing classroom work, but
seeing them put it together on the field during training camp.
I would say for the most part, the first week

(13:43):
of camp was solely won by the defense. It was
one of those things where they had the number. It's
seemingly every single day. Now the offense has chipped away.
I think the offense has looked better, But that was
my overall takeaway is.

Speaker 7 (13:56):
The emphasis was made defensively.

Speaker 6 (13:58):
They got rid of Gus Bradley, they brought up and
lou An Arumo. They make big off season acquisitions in
camp bind them and they bring in Sharvarius Ward and
in the draft, they draft JT. Two, Imolowaw, they draft
Justin Wally, and all those guys have seemingly made a
massive impact early on. And we're just two weeks in
a camp.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
What impact Hazu and Arumo had already on this defensive unit.
Because when I hear DeForest Buckner talk, when I hear
Kenny Wore talk, the word that everyone always says is
he's a guy that's going to hold you accountable or nobs.
And I feel like that's something that Colds defense has
really lacked the last couple of years.

Speaker 6 (14:33):
We all kind of saw it come to a head
last year when Kenny Moore kind of voiced his frustration about,
you know, everybody, everything's not earned just because you've been here,
Just because you've been here for a couple of years
doesn't mean all of a sudden you can crown yourself
as a leader or a starter or a guy that is,
you know, one of the top guys on that defense.

(14:54):
And I think ultimately that just showed you that from
one of the key leaders on that defense in Kenny
More that maybe a little bit more of a look
ourselves in the near kind of moment was needed, and
lou and Arumo seems to be the guy that has
kind of given them that. And I mean you talked
to Forest Buckner and he's getting called out in a
meeting room because something he did wrong on tape. Clearly

(15:16):
there shows you that he holds everybody the highest standard possible.
If a guy like DeForest Buckner, who's an all Pro
perennial pro bowler, is being held to that standard, it's
that way across the board, and that's kind of what
you want to see.

Speaker 7 (15:28):
It's given these guys in.

Speaker 6 (15:29):
Some ways like a fresh sense of the game of football.
You know, your guys who are service vets are kind
of coming in with a little bit more of something
to prove this year, which is definitely something to be welcomed.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
Casey Value, of the in game studio host and the
radio coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts, joins me Eda Garrison
on network's Indiana Sports Talk. One final thought here on
the defense. You mentioned cam binhim earlier. What is he
brought to the table so far? Because he did an
interview with the fan in Indieapolis and he just brought
so much energy and was so just expressive and pretty

(16:01):
much in every minor detail within this Colts defense.

Speaker 7 (16:04):
Yeah, I mean, that's that's been the biggest thing that
we have.

Speaker 6 (16:07):
Noticed is just the absolute pro He is a pro
in every sense of the word. He came in and
already has earned the trust of We've mentioned Kenny Moore
a couple times already, but that's one of the things
that hearing Kenny Moore talk about him already.

Speaker 7 (16:24):
The relationship in the.

Speaker 6 (16:25):
Bond is there, and these guys haven't even taken a
meaningful snap together and it's just been practices and what
we've seen in camp, and those are some things that
typically you have to earn that it's okay, show me
what you can do on the field. But cam Binen
is a different He's a different breed. He's a guy
who he comes over from Minnesota and they have had
incredible defenses over the last handfull of years with Brian

(16:47):
Floores there in Minnesota, and cam Binen was just the
odd man out. They had a lot of really good
pieces in Minnesota, but you can't pay them all and
cam Binen was definitely one of those hot top priorities
for a lot of teams in the NFL, and the
Cold targeted that because they needed just a little bit
of something different in that back end in the secondary,
and he has proven to this point to be a
guy that already you can trust and you can kind

(17:09):
of be as you're in some ways kind of the
quarterback of what a lou Henarumo defense is typically because
if you look at the successful lou Anarumo defenses, it's
been with a really, really good safety and cam Bindham
has been that they've.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
Been giving the offensive skill position players a lot of trouble.
A player who's been coming on as of late after
a slow start to training camp is wide receiver ad Mitchell.
If they can seemingly figure out how to get him
to play consistently just from practice to practice and carry
the success over from the field onto Sundays. What is
his potential?

Speaker 7 (17:42):
Oh, I mean, you can see it. The dude.

Speaker 6 (17:45):
He doesn't lack any talent. That is one of the
things about ad Mitchell is he has no I mean,
there is no situation that is too big for him.
And he is willing to go up against everybody. I mean,
we've seen him go one on ones against Sharvarius war
he was an All Pro and he's able to get
space and get open, and that's one of the things
you never worried about last year. He found a way

(18:06):
to get open. It was just there was miscommunication, whether
it was a wrong route or not being able to
be on the same.

Speaker 7 (18:12):
Page as the quarterback.

Speaker 6 (18:13):
So if you can figure out those two things, it's
a complete game changer for this offense because he can
do it in different ways. He can go across the middle,
he's a great route runner, but he also has the
impact speed and vertically to go for the deep ball.
So he is just that kind of that three trick pony,
if you will, at the receiver spot where a defense
can't really kind of target him as a one guy.

(18:34):
He kind of expands the whole field.

Speaker 1 (18:36):
Casey Value, the in game studio host and radio coordinator
for the Indianapolis Colts, joining us on Network Indiana's Indiana
Sports Talk. The receiver who has stood out the most
in camp from everything that I've read, I've only been
to go out there once, and hopefully you can get
through a couple more times, just because you know, the
times haven't been able to match up with my schedule.
Just from everything that I've seen so far has been
Alec Pierce.

Speaker 6 (18:57):
Yes, Alec Pierce has looked every bit of the part
of a guy who is entering into that contract year.
You think about it from a receiver standpoint, typically it's
like years two and three, the NFL game kind of
slows down a little bit and you really start to
flourish there in year three into year four. And that
is absolutely the case for Alec Pierce.

Speaker 7 (19:17):
He has been great. It's one of those things.

Speaker 6 (19:20):
You saw what he did last year, and I don't
think anybody thought it was a fluke. I think you've
kind of made excuses for why he hasn't been able
to make the massive impact that you would have liked
to have seen his first two years in the league.
And I think last year you really saw it come
to fruition and he's just picking up right where he
left off last year.

Speaker 7 (19:37):
He looks a little bit bigger.

Speaker 6 (19:39):
I think too, from a muscle standpoint, it's like he's
added some weight in some key areas, and the speed
and the verticality that he has it's unmatched.

Speaker 7 (19:48):
I mean, there's a reason he led.

Speaker 6 (19:49):
The NFL in yards per reception last year, and there's
no reason to think that that's going to change it
all here in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 1 (19:55):
Casey, We've made it seven minutes, and I've held off
on any Anthony Richardson and Daniel junk question until now
we've been congratulations, Thank you. I think that's got to
be a record for any interview involving anyone covering the Colts.
We've talked about how well the secondary has played so
far in training camp. How has that affected those two players.

Speaker 6 (20:15):
Yeah, it really has made a difference because it was
far early on. That was one of the things that
I kept saying, Yeah, the quarterbacks haven't flashed, but I
think part of it was because the defense just came
in ready to go. They took the defense to a
different level early in camp, and I think that's been kind.

Speaker 7 (20:34):
Of the story.

Speaker 6 (20:36):
But I would say over the last three or four
practices you have see some positive strides from the.

Speaker 7 (20:41):
Offensive side of the ball.

Speaker 6 (20:43):
And I mean, I know this is probably going to
be what everybody is saying currently. I think it's way
too early to tell how this competition is going, but
I think for everybody's sake, you're getting pretty good play
out of both of these guys the last handful of days,
and the way the trajectory is going. It's what you
want to see, especially going into a week. I think
upcoming this next week is going to be vital for

(21:05):
all of this because you've got a joint practice with
the Baltimore Ravens.

Speaker 7 (21:09):
The Ravens that's a defense as.

Speaker 6 (21:10):
A perennial playoff team, So here you get some really
good work there. And the following week you have another
joint practice the Packers, another team who's probably going to
be a playoff team as well. So you're going to
see these guys really go up head to head against
two really good defenses, and it'll be a really good
idea at a kind of really good way to really
see what that battle is looking like. But right now,
like I said, I think it's too early to tell

(21:31):
what we have seen a little bit of momentum going
both their directions.

Speaker 7 (21:34):
The last couple of days to see.

Speaker 1 (21:36):
The state Fairs started yesterday, And I know you love
going to the state Fair. What food item do you
have to get every time you go?

Speaker 6 (21:42):
Every time I have to go, I have to get
a ear corn. I'm a corn on the cob guy.
Don't cut it off the.

Speaker 7 (21:48):
Corn, keep it there.

Speaker 6 (21:49):
I agree, And I have to have a Tenderloin and
I get tinder wines all over the place, so I
know it's.

Speaker 7 (21:55):
One of those things where it's very Indiana of me.

Speaker 6 (21:58):
But I have to get the Indiana to Tinderloin. And
I mean, I guess if I'm walking around, I start
smelling those elephant ears with faun of cakes. I have
a sucker for that too, So you know, I got
a little bit of a sweet tooth.

Speaker 1 (22:09):
Not much, but hopefully you find some time to get
out to the State Fair. I know it's a busy schedule.
Case you enjoyed the rest of your weekend.

Speaker 7 (22:16):
Thanks Eddie, appreciate you, buddy.

Speaker 1 (22:18):
That's Casey Valier. Still more to come on ist.

Speaker 6 (22:26):
Landon.

Speaker 2 (22:26):
Coon's here with you once again for another Indiana sports
talk scoreboard update for the MLB. Baltimore Orioles come back
after being down three nothing to the Chicago Cups and
win four to three, Detroit Tigers seven to five over
the Philadelphia Phillies, the Cleveland Guardians five to four over
the Minnesota Twins, and then sad news for the Speedway

due to consistent rain. That game will resume tomorrow at

the bottom of the first and keeping tabs on the
Cago White Sox and Los Angeles Angels game. White Sox
lead early on one nothing at the top of the second.
Two outs bases loaded in for the AMILB. We'll hear

(23:11):
from Howard kellmanon here in just a little bit, he's
gonna talk about the Indians outcomes. South Bend Cubs get
the one nothing win over the Quad Cities River Bandits
and the great Ley Includes eighteen to three over the
four win ten casts. We heard from Greg Greg Star
a little bit Ago tam Bay Rowdies get the three

Cup Series, Chase Briscoe on poll for tomorrow's Iowa corn

(23:33):
three fifty from the Iowa Speedway top ten that starting
lineup Chase Briscoe, William Byron, Kyle Larson, Austin Cindric Brad
Kiselaski complete the top five, rang out top ten, Ryan Blaney,

Fan And you I hear you have had to win
over the Dallas Wings last night eighty eight to seventy eight.
Kelsey Mitchell Willing score with twenty three points. Howard Kellman
is up next on Network Indiana's India Sports Side.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
One Legend we'll be back next week on Network Indiana's
Indiana Sports Talk talking about Bob Lovel. I'm at a
garrison filling in for him. On Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk.
Another legend joins us now the radio voice of the
Indianapolis Indians. Hawick Kellman joined us. Good Evening, Howard.

Speaker 8 (24:33):
Good evening, mister Eddy.

Speaker 1 (24:35):
Five two win for the Tribe tonight against the Iowa Cubs,
and if I understand correctly, that means tomorrow they're going
for a series win.

Speaker 8 (24:44):
Yes, they've won three of the first five games in
the series. The Indians have played phenomenal baseball at home,
but they haven't fared as well on the road. So
this would give them a big lift. They're playing great.
They're oh, twenty three games just so above five hundred.
Today Nick Solak, those the league's leading hitter, had the

(25:05):
big hit in the game.

Speaker 7 (25:06):
He belt at a.

Speaker 8 (25:07):
Two run homer. Raphael Flores was the Indians DH He's
the key.

Speaker 7 (25:14):
Guy, Eddie.

Speaker 8 (25:15):
They gotten the David Bednar deal, the guy the Pirates
really like. He's a catcher. He DHD. He had two doubles,
the second of which knocked in a run and also
drew a walk. It was a good day for the Indians.

Speaker 1 (25:28):
He took my next question right out of my mouth
because I was gonna ask you about Rafael Flores in
his first game with the Indianapolis Indians. What has made
this team so good this year? Because, as you mentioned,
they're twenty two games over five hundred, and it looks
like they've got a couple of like seasoned veteran guys
that have had a lot of MLB experience to kind
of help bring along some of these minor league prospects

(25:48):
that the Pirates have.

Speaker 8 (25:50):
Well, I think that's right, and I think the big
key is you look at the position players. You've got
a lot of productivity from them. For instance, Ronnie Simon
leading off hitting three undert g one Bay hitting two ninety,
then Nick Solak hitting three sixty five, as we said,
leading the league. Those first three guys steel bases too.

(26:10):
Billy Cook's a good player, so is Devaney, so is
York Glorie's And this is the first time I've seen him.
He doesn't look like a catcher. He doesn't have that
kind of bulky bill that you think of when you
see a catcher. And we'll see he'll probably catch tomorrow.
But I think the big key has been the position players.

(26:32):
You know, you've gotten some good pitching at times. We
have prospects there in Barco Hunter, Barco In, Bubba Chandler,
both of whom have struggled a bit lately, and Thomas
Harrington a prospect up and back. But those position players
have been consistent and they're doing a really nice job.

Speaker 1 (26:52):
Howar Kell in the voice of the Indianapolis Indians joining
me on Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk, Howard, just because
I know how long you've been around the game, I
like to ask them like historical questions or things that
you know that the MLB is trying to do to
help gain traction in terms of drawing in fans. The
Cincinnati Reds Atlanta Braves games suspended in the MLB Speedway
Classic tonight playing at the Bristol Motor Speedway. I know

(27:13):
they continue to do the Little League World Championship. They'll
play out there in Pennsylvania. They have done the Ill
Feel the Dreams game before as well. For MLB to
continue to find new ways to play at different venues,
is this a good thing for Major League Baseball that
you would like to see them continue to do every year?

Speaker 8 (27:32):
I think so. And look what look at that crowd
in Bristol they had tonight, Absolutely incredible. You talk about
some bad luck, I mean with that heavy rain, but
what'd they have? Over eighty thousand people there? Yeah, and
they're going to pick the game up tomorrow. I understand.
That's why I left the open date tomorrow, just in
case you don't want to issue ring. You know, you

(27:54):
don't want to give refunds to eighty thousand people. But no,
I do think Eddie, it's a good thing.

Speaker 2 (27:58):
Now.

Speaker 8 (27:59):
The Little League World is different because that's been going
on forever. But as you mentioned, this thing in Bristol,
the field of the dreams. Definitely good ideas.

Speaker 1 (28:08):
Indians will wrap up their series against the Iowa Cups
tomorrow two oh eight. First pitch the day off on Monday,
and then they return to Indianapolis Tuesday, Dollar Menu nine
at Victory Field as the Omaha Stormchasers who visit downtown Indianapolis,
Howard have a good call tomorrow. Hopefully you can get
to the State Fair as well with the Indians returning
home too.

Speaker 8 (28:26):
That's a good idea. It's always a pleasure being on
with you, Eddie, Thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (28:31):
At towerd Kellman the voice of the Indianapolis Indians. He'll
be joining Bob Lovell next weekend on Network Indiana's Indiana
Sports Talk. We pivot from one of my favorite sports
to another one. We go from baseball to basketball. We'll
talk about the Indiana Pacers in a moment, but Scott
Agnes field House Files joins me. Scott the Indiana Fever. Lately,
they've been arguably the best team of the DOUBNBA in

(28:54):
terms of record perspective. They're seven to two in their
last nine. They've won four consecutive games. What's been the
biggest difference for Stephanie White's team Yeah, I.

Speaker 9 (29:02):
Think number one, Eddie, and good to be on with
you as always. For one, I think everyone shined in
their role, but nobody more than Kelsey Mitchell, who's led
them in scoring in twelve of the fourteen games. And
I think they've just done a better job of controlling
the controllables and minimizing turnovers and certain things to challenge.
As you saw last night, was they will have bad
periods where they do have so many unforced airs and such.

(29:26):
But I think this group has it togetherness that we
have not yet seen this season. And then the other
big thing, quite frankly, is they've had some practice days
here over the last week that they've been able to
get together and get on the same page headed into
this tough road trip where they play four games in
like nine days.

Speaker 1 (29:44):
Yeah. And this road trip, even though it is like
four games, I think it was like ninety I think
it was six days. Even though they it is a
very condensed schedule, they have some favorable matchups and when
you look at things without Caitlin Clark right now, you're
just hoping this team can at least just go five
hundred during the course of this four game stretch.

Speaker 9 (30:03):
Yeah, That's what I've said all along is you hope
to go You hope to win the games that you're
supposed to and then get a couple that maybe you're
not supposed to. And so far they have exceeded that expectation,
I think in what they've been able to get accomplished
in the remarkable thing now, Eddie, is you look and
they're like two and a half games out of second
in the whole entire league, not in the conference, a

(30:26):
game out of maybe a half game out of third,
I want to say. And so they are right there,
despite Caitlin missing more than half of the year, despite
them having those struggles in the first part of the year,
despite Dwana Bonner wanting to leave the team, and yet
they are right there in the thicket things. And there's
still sixteen games left, so there's plenty of time to
make some headway and make a push leading into the postseason.

(30:48):
And then once again, both due to their talent, it's
coaching and fan base, you don't want to play this
team coming into the postseason?

Speaker 1 (30:55):
Yeah, absolutely not. Yeah, they are a game and a
half out of second place, in large part because you
know the liberty you're dealing with three major injuries to
three role players, Breanna Stewart, Niar Sibali and Kennedy Booke,
the former Fever forward. You mentioned the Dwana Bonner thing,
and I want to bring this up because it feels like,
you know, the last oh, probably two to four weeks

(31:16):
or so, there just hasn't been a ton of drama
with the Indiana Fever. You had the whole Dewana Bonner situation.
Of course, Stephanie White miss him time early in the
season due to personal matter. Do you feel like because
all of the drama has officially kind of stopped and
it's gone away, that it's allowed this team to kind
of get out from underneath water and feel like that
they're an actual team he can play together on the floor.

Speaker 5 (31:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (31:38):
Absolutely, I think they've been stabilized. And also we should
have credit a couple of the newcomers for that as well.
By the way, Erry McDonalds, who's in the starting lineup,
coming from as a player who was not wanted by
the other teams, and what she's been able to do
has been good. And then I think we've also seen Chloe.

Speaker 7 (31:54):
Bibby be a tremendous fit.

Speaker 9 (31:55):
She's knocked down at least two to three pointers in
each of their last three games.

Speaker 7 (32:00):
So so many.

Speaker 9 (32:01):
Times you can get lost in talent when sore. More
often it's about the right situation and fit for these players.

Speaker 1 (32:08):
Is it with Chloe Babby Scott Agnes of Viodos Files,
Is it right timing, right situation for her with the
Indiana Fever because she was with the Golden State Valkyries
and now she's come in and seemingly found a role
within the Fever right away.

Speaker 7 (32:22):
Yeah, I think it is.

Speaker 9 (32:23):
And the other thing I will say is there's a
lot of power and confidence in your role and knowing
what's asked you. And each time we've talked with Chloe
these last.

Speaker 1 (32:33):
Three or four times here.

Speaker 9 (32:34):
And she's re.

Speaker 7 (32:37):
Iterated the same points.

Speaker 9 (32:38):
Here ready right at we're playing fast paced, which means
I got to be in shape and run the floor.
I got a knock down three. She has never hesitated
on three point shots. She knows catch the ball, fire away,
and she's done that at a great clip. And then
I also think just knowing the scout and knowing personnel,
that was something this team has struggled with over the
last month. How many times have they talked about it

(32:58):
during postgame press count and says, hey, we didn't we
didn't know our scout, we didn't defend them properly, et cetera,
et cetera. And I think we've heard less of that
here recent history. So now you go on the West
Coast trip a lot of winnable games. You play a
Phoenix team that has has struggled, You play tomorrow a
Seattle team that's coming off of double overtime lost LA Sparks.

(33:20):
The opportunities are there, and as we discussed over the
last two weeks, the fever of taking advantage those only
two losses have been to the New York Liberty.

Speaker 1 (33:27):
Yeah, it feels like Scott that in the early part
of the season that they were expecting to win every night,
just like they could just show up and win. And
now there's like the professional aspect and the professional approach
every single night for this team. And that's just typically
what happens when you have a lot of players that
aren't used to having the pressure put on them before
the season starts of being a title contending team and.

Speaker 9 (33:50):
Talk about a little Yeah, I think that goes to
what you were talking about with Dewana Bonner earlier as well. Yeah,
she didn't know that role as much and and wasn't
this comfortable here. I still remember after the first game
here he was talking about being in all and kind
of shook by the number of fans that were rooting
them on. So I think they've stayed when they're in

(34:11):
a good place right now.

Speaker 1 (34:12):
Scott will continue the conversation next.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
Landy Kunes here for you another Indiana Sports Talk scoreboard update.
We'll continue our conversation with Scott Agnes. Indiana. Fever got
the eighty eight to seventy eight win over the Dallas
Wings last night. Kelsey Mitchell with twenty three points, all
Right McDonald fifteen, Aliah Boston tall points eleven rebounds, and
Natasha Howard eleven points, sixteen rebounds. Fever will be back

(34:42):
in action tomorrow in Seattle to take on the Storm.
That game tomorrow at three o'clock. You can watch on ABC,
or you can listen to it on our flag Ship
station on ninety three to five and one oh seven
five the Fan inside the MLB. The Baltimore Ools takeout
win over the shild Cubs four to three, Detroit Tigers seven.
Nothing or excuse me, seventy five were the Philadelphia Phillies

(35:02):
Cleveland Guardians five to four with the Minnesota Twins. The
Speedway Classic from Bristol Motor Speedway is suspended for heavy rain.
That game resumes tomorrow at one o'clock. The Reds lead
one to nothing over the Atlanta Braves and inside the
Chicago White Sox Los Angeles Angels game, White Sox lead
won nothing. As we are about to start the bottom

(35:24):
of the third Colts camp in full underway, Zire Franklin
had his first practice day. We'll hear from lou and
Aromo here in just a little bit. Anthony Erierson had
a little bit of a rocky day, going three for
ten on the day, and then on the opposite end
of the side you have Daniel Jones who ended up
eleven for fourteen on the day and also a solid
day for a Dy Mitchell. Practice will resume tomorrow from

(35:47):
ten am to eleven thirty am, and then on Tuesday,
August fifth, the Baltimore Ravens will host the Colts in
a joint practice session, and then on Thursday, August fourteenth,
the Colts will host the Green Bay Packers in a
joint practice session.

Speaker 1 (36:01):
More com up.

Speaker 2 (36:02):
Soon, we'll head back to Eddie and Scott Agnaness for
their conversation for never Ken you ask sports, Alena Kins.

Speaker 1 (36:10):
Thank you, Landon, Scott agnes Field. As Files rejoins us, Scott,
let's continue the Indiana Fever conversation before we transition to
the Indiana Pacers, just because there's one thing I want
to make sure that we set the record straight on
in terms of the Indiana Fever. I know we've talked
a lot about Kelsey Mitchell and you know, the role
players of Chloe Baby. We've mentioned Arry McDonald, but the

(36:31):
player who has been so good for them, especially since
she's been drafted and she just find ways to continue
to get better is a Leah Boston for.

Speaker 7 (36:40):
Sure, five straight double doubles.

Speaker 9 (36:42):
She's been the key cog and what they've been doing
here as of late, and I think she's clearly having
Eddie that her best season in three years, as you
would expect too, but it's not always a given right,
and so I think they've been able to lean on
her more as of late. What I do, miss, I
will say is that pick and with Caitlin Man, that
is so beautiful to watch either Caitlyn shooting that three,

(37:03):
or the pocket pass to Aliyah for an easy layup
or that five foot shot. But you're right, Aliyah has
been fantastic. Natasha Howard has found a nice groove against
the Dallas Swings, and so it's really just kudos all
around this entire roster for what they've been able to
get done, even in Sophe Cunningham right ten points over
the last month at like a forty eight percent clip

(37:25):
from three point range.

Speaker 1 (37:26):
With Aliyah, it just feels like from where I've seen
her grow from her rookie year to sophomore year and
not her Judy, you're in the w is she literally, Scott.
I don't know if you've ever seen her this year.
She literally never looks tired at the end of the game.
She looks like this suits the gaming. She's like, all right,
I can go play another one. I can go play
forty more minutes. Let's go.

Speaker 9 (37:46):
And I think what that was as much like I
was talking about Chloe earlier, Bibbi is the expectation then,
know how she came into this season knowing exactly the
level of conditioning and fitness she needed to be into
and what role she would have and how you would
utilize that. And I think she's benefited a great deal
and so have the fever. But yeah, as two point absolutely.

Speaker 1 (38:06):
And then the other thing about Eliah Boston that has
really stood out to me is that oftentimes, you know, players,
especially in the early stages of their career, they don't
really know how to use their body, especially the post
and the interior players. Either they try to use their
body too much and he gets them in foul trouble
all the time. Worth they're too timid to try to
because they're afraid of getting into foul trouble. And right

(38:26):
now she has the utmost confidence in her conditioning and
being able to distribute force to the opponent and be
able to take it.

Speaker 9 (38:35):
Yeah, I think the interesting thing with Aliah is she's
been on the b end of a whistle so many
times this season and it's and it hasn't really impacted her.
And I think that shows the maturity and growth that
you don't see your rights in players in their first
couple of years, especially big whether it's men's game or
women's game.

Speaker 7 (38:53):
We see so.

Speaker 9 (38:53):
Many times the centers struggle with foul trouble and in
the physicality and those.

Speaker 7 (38:58):
Sorts of things.

Speaker 9 (38:59):
And so one of the things that you definitely have
observed with Alea this season too, is if she's not
into a game early, you know, in the first half
or whatever, she hangs around and hangs around and then.

Speaker 7 (39:09):
We'll step up as needed.

Speaker 9 (39:11):
We saw that two games ago with Phoenix. I think
she had five points through three quarters and then scored
fourteen points in a row to finish with maybe twenty five,
twenty seven whatever. It was in spectacular fashion.

Speaker 6 (39:23):
And I think.

Speaker 9 (39:24):
Earlier younger players are a little bit eager, a little
bit more greedy, and unsure of.

Speaker 7 (39:30):
How the team operates.

Speaker 9 (39:31):
I don't think there's any doubt about the way in
which this team is functioning and why it is at
such a high level at this moment.

Speaker 1 (39:37):
All right, to put a bow on the Indiana fever conversation,
let's try to you know, guess. So when Caitlyn Clark
is going to return, I say, August the twenty second
at home against the Minnesota Links. Stephanie White joined querying
company earlier this week, Scott, I'm going to play what
she had to say about how challenging it is going
to be integrating Kaitlin Clark over the next couple of
weeks just because of practice time. I'll let you react

(39:59):
to make your decision. Here's Stephanie White.

Speaker 5 (40:01):
Will have to have Caitlin go through practices before we
throw her out there into a game again, you know,
making sure that we're really taking this slow. Oh you know,
last time she felt good, so she got medical practice
if any, and then thrown out there into the game.

Speaker 7 (40:18):
You know, this time, we're going.

Speaker 5 (40:18):
To make sure that we get multiple practices, she gets
through some for lack of a better term, kind of
benchmarks that we don't see any regression. And so yeah,
I mean it makes it tough because we are playing
every other day. We're playing every other day, and then
you know, we're traveling out west, and so every time
you travel there's inflammation that happens on airplanes, rest recovery,
time zone changes, all of those things that affect your

(40:41):
body as well as your mind.

Speaker 9 (40:44):
Scott, your production dy after Yeah, after hearing that, I
think I agree with your assumption. There is I figured
two to three weeks into August at the least, they
want to make sure she is completely okay. They're taking
a cautious approach a little bit more different little bit
more conservative than last time, and I think that is
absolutely right. They got to get it right this time,

(41:05):
and that would allow for enough time heading into the postseason.

Speaker 1 (41:08):
Scott, you got time for one more? Got a man,
Scott adnus a field House Files rejoin us for one
final segment here on Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk. Now
that we've wrapped up our conversation about the Indiana Fever,
I want to set the record straight here. I saw

(41:29):
something on social media. I don't know if it's one
hundred percent true or what, but Victor Oladipo allegedly did
a private workout in front of Pacers coaches, scouts, and executives. Scott,
I don't understand. I mean, I could understand why the
Indiana Pacers would take a look like, hey, why not
it's a former NBA player, to see how he looks
for a player of the franchise. But I don't have

(41:49):
any reason as to why the Pacers would go out
and sign him.

Speaker 7 (41:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (41:55):
First of all, I know he was in town, but
I text him during the Fever game as he was
sitting in six I think it was row three beyond
court side, and he said, hey, I'm just here and
enjoying the game. And then the next day we saw
him down in Bloomington working out with the IU basketball team,
and from what I'm told from IU side, he looked
depress it.

Speaker 7 (42:13):
But also, you're.

Speaker 9 (42:14):
Going against colleged age kids, nineteen twenty twenty one year olds,
and he's a pro, a two time All Star, and
so not a ton to make out of it. I
don't think. I think it's a great support opportunity for
him to be back in Bloomington and such. I have
not heard that.

Speaker 7 (42:28):
He's worked out.

Speaker 9 (42:29):
I saw the account. I've never seen them report anything
credible though, so I don't know what. I'm not sure
what to make of that. I do know it, Yes,
the Pacers were among the teams out in Las Vegas
that saw him and agency group that work out. But
they they send scouts and in front office people to
all of those events. I've attended them while they have
been there, so that is doing their due diligence for

(42:51):
all available players out there, as they should. But to me,
you're right, I think it's past his prime. I don't
see a marriage or you know, rekindeling makes sense for
either side, But for Victor, he's not ready to hang
it up just yet. He said he's on the grind
and trying to return to the NBA for at least
another season.

Speaker 1 (43:09):
Pacers don't even have an open roster spot right now, correct,
after Taylor Peter signing the two way deal for that
final spot.

Speaker 9 (43:15):
No, but they have Tony Bradley's non guaranteed opportunity. That
likely if you have the Achilles guys, and talking about
Isaiah Jackson and James Wiseman, if one or both of
those guys are healthy, that would allow you to be
more confident going into the season and not needing full
true for true center.

Speaker 1 (43:32):
What'd you take away from summer League?

Speaker 9 (43:37):
Not too much, and that's that's the right thing. Normally,
it was mostly that Johnny Furphy can play at this
level and is really not. They haven't just talked about
adding weight. You have seen it physically in his game
and how how he operates, and the fact that it
was remarkable. They took like fourteen guys out there ready
and Johnny in his second year was still the youngest

(43:59):
among them, which also tells me he could probably grow
a couple inches. He's certainly going to fill out athletically,
and then more than that, I thought we saw growth
as the games wore on with their two main draft picks,
with Cam Jones and with Taylor Peter. Outside of that,
there's not too much to make out of it. I
don't think, if anything, you're more concerned if a guy

(44:19):
doesn't shine or one of your draft picks just really
lays an agger is a disappointment out there, And I
don't think that was the case.

Speaker 1 (44:25):
At all, all right, Scott. In conclusion, I asked Casey
Valier about this earlier. The Indiana State Fairs started yesterday.
If anyone is making their trip down to visit the
state Fair, what must they get to eat?

Speaker 9 (44:40):
H For me, it's going to the dairy barn. You
gotta get the milkshake and the grilled cheese.

Speaker 1 (44:44):
Can't blame me there, You're a corn That's where I
always go. Scott. Thanks for the time, man, Enjoy the
rest of your weekend.

Speaker 9 (44:50):
Great pick. Thanks Eddie.

Speaker 1 (44:52):
