Landon kuns here for you another Indiana Sports Talk scoreboard update,
and honored to be with Eddie Garrison and our producer
Jace Hodge here on this all Saturday at You Indie
Night Colts Camp. Anthony Richardson had a little bit of
a rocky day, going three for ten, Dale Jones a
little bit on the opposite end, going eleven for fourteen.
Zire Franklin had his first practice this back today. Here's
(01:01):
Lou and Arumo on what the linebacker room looks like.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Here's the good news about that room, as we're still
working through it and it's you know what, practice seven
eight today, whatever it is. We haven't even played a
preseason game. So I love the competition that's going on
in there and all that will sort itself out as
we get through these joint practices that we're having. And
the good news is, I believe will come out of
it with a deep room. I want to be able
to use those guys, whatever their strengths may be, to
(01:26):
the best of our ability, and I feel like all
of them at some point will help us.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
The Indiana Fever get the massive win over the Dallas
Wings last night eighty eight to seventy eight. Kelsey Mitchell
the leading scorer with twenty three points. The Fever we'll

to four over the Minnesota Twos. The Cincinna Reds lead
one nothing over the Atlanta Braves in a suspended Speedway

fourth zero outs. We heard from Howard Kellman and the

over the Iowa Cubs. We held from Brandy King a
little bit later on tonight as the Cubs get The
South Bend Cubs get the one nothing win of the

to three over the Fort Wayne ten Caps. We heard

be tomorrow at three o'clock. You can watch that game
on USA. Earlier today, the NASCAR k Finity Series raced
at Iowa Speedway for the HIGHV Perks two fifty. Sam
Mayor goes back to back at Iowa for his second
win at that speedway, first win of twenty twenty five,
(03:20):
and also his first winning for his new team, the
Hots Factor team and for Ford this season. Also his
eighth career win. Top ten results in that race. Sam Mayor,
Jesse Love, Ross, Chastain, Connor Zilich, Harrison Burton complete the
top five, and rounding out the top ten Carson Hostovar Sheldon, Creed,

Speaker 1 (04:45):
Welcome back to network. Indiana is Indiana Sports Talk. And
I know he just talked for five minutes. Why not
talk a little bit more? Landon Coons joins me. Landon
nice job so far tonight.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
Thank you, sir, appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
Now people that listen during the course of the summer,
now you've been on the update desk quite a bit.
You've also been in the producer chair I think a
time or two, and most people when they sit in
the seat that I'm in bringing you into talk racing
just because of how much you love racing. And I
know that NTT IndyCar Series is not in action this weekend,
but let's chat a little IndyCar shall well. Alex Poulow
(05:20):
is pretty much going to win the series. I know.
The only driver that's mathematically still in it is part
of award and everything would have to go his way
and that would just not be Alex Pulow type things.
What kind of run is he on? Because I feel
like this is a stretch in terms of from siri
from season to season to season that we've only seen
one other time in the history of the sport. That
(05:41):
was Dario Frankidi.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
Yeah, man, I mean for Alex Plow, I mean Domina.
I think I feel like he isn't even enough words
to describe Alex Plow. I mean, like you said, it's
a historic run. Eight wins in one and one season
is pretty incredible. I believe he's nearing a record for
a J Foyd. I believe that was set. I could
be wrong on this. In nineteen sixty four, A J
(06:02):
Foy had ten wins.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
He had eleven. I think I know it.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
Was double digits. Yeah, and I don't. I don't believe
Alex Blow does have time to get that. But will
he catch it? I don't think so. You got three
races left the season, you have the road course at Portland,
and you have the last two ovals of the year
in Milwaukee and Nashville. Polo has won Portland before. I
could see him winning it again. We know last year
(06:30):
Milwaukee and Nashville didn't really go in Pelo's favor, but
that could change. We've seen Alex Pelow win on two
ovals this year alone, this year with the Indy five
hundred and the second double headed race of Iowa. So
I mean, Alex Pelow has just been on an absolute tear.
I think the most wins he's ever had in a
single season is five and he's you could nearly double
that with he could get to ten. So it's just
(06:52):
an immaculate season so far.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
You were right. I should have listened to you. It
is ten for aj Foy eleven. If Polo wins out,
then he would have. And I know it's hard because
he has been so dominating everyone. You know, you start
to get that feeling. You see it, especially in the NFL,
of people getting tired of seeing the same guy win.
But you just sometimes you have to be able to
(07:13):
accept the fact that how good Alex Polow has been
and have to respect it. And here's the thing. Langdon
chip Ganassi said before the start of the season that
he's scratching the surface, so like, how much better can
this guy can? Can he even get?
Speaker 2 (07:30):
I genuinely think he will outdo Scott Dixon if he
keeps up this same pace. I know. I mean, you
look at Scott Dixon. Right, he's the iceman six championships
and almost sixty wins. I mean he's the pinnacle of
the current driver. Of the current drivers in the NTT
Indy Car Series. Alex Plow is on pace to Catt
that and Alex Plow is like a sponge, right, He's
(07:51):
had so many teammates coming go. Like you mentioned, he's
got Dario Franchitti in his corner. He can lean off
of Scott Dixon, and he can even coach drivers like
even his younger team mckkiff and Simpson. He the way
he's able to craft himself and surround himself with all
these different people is so interesting to see, and like
I said, will I think he will at some point
(08:12):
catch Scott Nixon.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
Earlier this week Fox Sports they acquire a third of
Penske Entertainment, which is a bunch of different things that
I'm not smart enough to know what all that entails,
but I am smart enough to know this Landon that
when you get a broadcast partner that invests in your sport,
that is a good thing because that means they're going
(08:33):
to be promoting the you know what out of that
said sport. So I think the fact that Fox Sports
is going in on this the third, I think it's
going to only help the IndyCar theories grow because we're
gonna see a lot more original content. And I think
everyone is chasing what Formula One has done with Drive
to Survive.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
Oh, I think so too, And I think it's hard
for any series now to try to not compare themselves
against that Formula One Drive to Survive. I've type show
everyone tries to make it their own. But no, this
is a great move for Fox Sports and the NTT
Indy Car Series and especially you know, I believe there's
gonna be more promotions of around the tracks and you know,
we just saw a couple of weeks ago, Iowa Speedway
(09:15):
was a ghost town. Yep, hardly anybody in the stands,
And like, it makes me sad to see this because
Iowas used to put on barn burner races that everyone
look forward to. And now, like I've mentioned it throughout
my updates, tonight, NASCAR's there. They had the ARCA race
there last night. There was more people for an arcer
race that know, everyone will probably know two.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
To three people now correct me if I'm wrong with that.
The NASCAR owned track right, Yes, that is correct. That's
probably your major difference there.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
It is a very major difference. And also I believe
NASCAR owns Iowa Speedway. So but I hope that in
some way, shape or form, people can promote this and
they say, oh, you know, for example, Iowa Speedways back
on the calendar, like let's go this weekend if we
you know, if we're in town, let's go to Iowa,
or let's go to let's go to somewhere else with
that you'd never been to, if it's within a driving distance.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
That's Landing Coon's Sports Scoreboard Update Man Sports Anchor of
the Night also produces track Side with Kirk Cavin and
Kevin Lee. So for one of some fight the fan
and I know we're nearing a break Landon, so I'll
make this quick. Do you have any silly season predictions?
Speaker 2 (10:18):
Ooh, I'll be able it and get that later. I'll
go out with one right now, Linas Slunkquist gets back
in the series.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
Okay, we'll see if Lann and Cooth can come up
another one with another one by the time the show wins. Next,
James Boyd, we'll talk a little colts football next on
Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Landa Kuon's here with you once again. The Indiana Fever
get the eighty eight to seventy eight win last night
over the Dallas Wings. Kelsey Mitchell leading scorer with twenty
three points, are McDonald with fifteen, Aliyah Boston with twelve points,
eleven rebounds, and Natasha Howard eleven points, sixteen rebounds. If
you are back in action tomorrow, take on the Seattles.
Tip off for that game is tomorrow at three o'clock.
(11:02):
You can watch on ABC and you can listen to
it on our flax SIP station on ninety three five
and one oh seven five the Fan even with our
host Eddie Garrison. MLB back in action, the Baltimore Oriols
take a win over the Shadow Cubs four to three,
Detroit Tigers seven to five over the Philadelphia Phillies, the
Cleveland Guardians five to four over the Minnesota Twins. Sin
Satti Reid's lead. The Atlanta Braves won nothing in the
(11:25):
suspended Speedway Classic game from Bristol Motor Speedway due to
the heavy rains. That game will continue tomorrow at one o'clock.
And for the Los Angeles or Los Angeles Angels and
the Chicago White Sox game. White Sox lead lead that
game won nothing at the top of the fifth, and
then in the MiLB the Indianapolis Indians get the five
(11:46):
to two win of the Iowa Cubs. We'll hear from
Brendan King later Tonight. South Bend Cubs won nothing win
over the Quad Cities River Bannits and the Great Lakes
Luones eighteen to three win over the Fort Wayne ten Caps.
Chase Briscoe on poll for tomorrow's NASCAR Cup Series race
for the Iowa Corns three fifty from the Iowa Speedway.
The top five Chase Briscoe, William Byron, Kyle Larson, Austin
(12:07):
Cindric and Brad Keselowski, but defending Brickyard four hundred champion
Bubba Wallace will start fifteenth. Christopher Bell's fastest in practice,
He'll start seventeenth. Kyle Busch crashed harder practice, He'll roll
off and last with a backup car. Green flag is
tomorrow at three o'clock. You can watch on USA for
now Indiana Sports some landakoons.
Speaker 1 (12:30):

Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talking Eddie Garrison filling in for
the coach Bob Lovel. He'll make his return next Friday night,
(13:14):
and I mean high school footballs.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
Around the corner.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
We continue our conversation with the Indianapolis Colts and James,
You're the third guest that I've had on that covers
the Colt in some capacity. I'm completely ignorant in the
fact that I forgot to make mention of this with
Casey Valier. I asked Greg great Straw, but he wasn't there.
I know you were there because you've been at all
eight practices so far, that first ever night practice at
(13:37):
Graham Park. Your overall thoughts.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
It was a lot of fun.
Speaker 5 (13:41):
I thought that it gave you some high school football
Friday night fields and the players who'd enjoy it as well.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
So I liked it.
Speaker 5 (13:49):
I've gave you more of a game setting, and really,
Eddie was a lot of eleven or eleven work, so
I felt more like an actual game that perhaps the
other practices. So I enjoyed it late night out of Westfield,
pretty late probably, I think I left Westfield Friday morning.
But nevertheless, it was a fun experience.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
You think it's something that they'll try to continue to
do every year.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
Absolutely, I think that was a success.
Speaker 5 (14:13):
Afterward they had the drone show, the Fileworks show. I
know some of the residents of Westfield might I appreciate
it how loud it got there for a few minutes,
but it was good man.
Speaker 4 (14:22):
I think sometimes anytime you can kind of.
Speaker 5 (14:24):
Give some fresh energy or just a different look to
something that becomes kind of monotonous after a while with
training camp every day in a lot of long days,
when you can break it out and make it fun.
I think you should do that, so I would have
started to to continue next season.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
Only five practices left for the Colts. On today's practice,
Landon has touched on this a couple of times. During
the scoreboard update Zier Franklin was on the field for
the first time. He did a lot of individual work No.
Seven on seven or eleven on eleven. I know the
practices are limited, and then they have that two weeks
off between the final preseason game and week one of
the regular season. Do you you feel like he can
(15:00):
get involved enough to where when week win rolls around
that Zaire Franklin has the complete understanding on what Lou
and Aruma wants to do and understands all the coverages
and all the calls.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
Yes, I think he.
Speaker 5 (15:12):
Can do that. I don't think he can be the
player that he's been through his career, going from a
seventh round pick to being a second team All Pro
last year, if you aren't dedicated to the playbook and
trying to get better every day. It sounds like a cliche,
but the good part about it, and some of the
more tangible things that he can do is working with
Joe Bachi, the linebacker who came over.
Speaker 4 (15:30):
With Cincinnati, who knows lew and Remot's.
Speaker 5 (15:33):
Defense, who's been starting actually in place of Zaire Franklin
on some days, and he's had a pretty good camp
himself and Joe Bachi that is. And so if he
can help Zaire Franklin along as he said he has
so far, I think Zaire can hit the ground run
in literally with this defense.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
In terms of the defense, has anyone in that secondary
outside of Justin Walley impressed to you? I know there
were high expectations for Travarious Ward. You don't really focus
on the safeties as much in training camp just because
they don't get as involved down the field in terms
of pushing the ball down the field with the offense.
Has anyone stood out outside of Justin Walley?
Speaker 5 (16:08):
I would have said before the hamstring injuries, both Jalen
Jones and Juju Brents are both having pretty good camps,
and Juju in particular, you're trying to fight for respecting
that room that is now loaded with a lot of talent,
and obviously adding Shvarius War and adding Justin Wally, that's
gonna You know, Nick, you're playing time a little bit
of knock you down a peg, and I thought that
he was kind of scrapping and fighting for the coaches
(16:28):
to make a decision or to the consider putting him
out there in certain packages.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
And certain instances.
Speaker 5 (16:33):
And then also quietly, I think that Nick Crosses had
a solid camp. I know this time last year he
was taking a lot of heat for falling on Josh
Downs's ankle and knocking him out for the first two games
of the season. But Nick cross is going to a
contract year. He's coming off his best year football last
year as a starter, started off seventeen games, and I
think that he's been solid, and honestly, there's strong safety.
When we don't hear your name called as much through
(16:55):
our practice, say for interception he had earlier today, that's
usually a good thing. I means you're in position and
you're making plays, and you know, if you aren't making plays,
you're leasing in a position to make sure that other
players can make their play.
Speaker 6 (17:07):
I know.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
Anthony Richardson and James Wood are the Athletic and the
Fan morning show on ninety three five and one seven
to five to the Fan with Kevin Bowen and Jeff
Rickert and producer Mark Dyton, who was hosting this program
last night, did not have a good day. Neither quarterback
really did, in large part because then we heard Jim
Bob Cooter after practice talk about this. They did a
lot of drop back passing in the high red zone,
low red zone. I always get it mixed up, but anyway,
(17:30):
it was like almost gold to go and typically when
you get that close, you're gonna rely more on running
the football instead. Today they pretty much went all pass heavy,
and Jim Bob said that they could coach a little
bit more following today's practice. And I know Anthony didn't
have a great practice in that setting, but for the
most part, over the last week or two, Anthony Richardson
has played pretty well.
Speaker 5 (17:52):
He asked played pretty well to go step back today.
I understand everything Jim Bob Couter said, but when he's
three or ten passing in a team period, that's just
a data kind of dismiss for whatever reason, whether it's
scheme dependent, whether it's scenario dependent. And honestly, the interception
that he had today, Eddie, I thought it was just
a poor decision. Beyond the scenario of being down near
(18:12):
the goal line, he tried to force one into Josh
downs on second and goal essentially, and I just wondered
for a second, there was it fourth Downland.
Speaker 4 (18:20):
Did you have to throw it?
Speaker 5 (18:20):
And I'm looking at the down marker and no, he
didn't have to throw it. He just tried to get
a little greedy. And we haven't seen that Anthony Richardson
that often throughout training camp. We've seen him take care of.
Speaker 4 (18:30):
The football, be a little bit smarter.
Speaker 5 (18:31):
So that's the only throw where I thought that it
was very egregious or like, you know, he has to
make sure that he's better in that area. But beyond that, yeah,
I kind of agree with Jimbob, and you get a
chance to, you know, do some things differently. I think
the joint practice in the preseting games, well, I would
keeping that more challenges there from a different defense that
isn't your own. But Anthony has taken some steps forward,
(18:52):
at least in my opinion, when it comes to decision
making and also the intermediate.
Speaker 4 (18:56):
And boring layup throws.
Speaker 5 (18:58):
Those are the ones he has to make and I'm
not touching him to make them, you know, every single time,
but you know, at a decent rate, because if you
can't do that, if you can just get competent quarterbacks
play from this coach team. The belief internal is that
they can.
Speaker 4 (19:10):
Make the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (19:11):
Hey, all that matters James at the end of the
day is that hopefully these mistakes are only being made
in training camp where you know, they don't count, they
don't mean anything, and that he learned from these and
doesn't make the same mistakes during the regular season.
Speaker 4 (19:23):
Absolutely, and that's the biggest thing. You know what, Eddie,
I had to look it up.
Speaker 5 (19:27):
He had twelve turnovers last year and eleven games, and
obviously that is just not sustainable. And I believe he
had I think eight interceptions and maybe uh, you know,
eight or nine interceptions or three or four loss fumbled.
But the bottom line is when you turn it over
at that rate, it's very.
Speaker 4 (19:43):
Hard for your team to win. Period.
Speaker 5 (19:45):
And you know, again that goes back to the being
born being methodical. No one's expecting Anthony Richardson to go
out there and suddenly have a Drew Breeze esque you know,
completing percentage where it's seventy percent or sixty seven percent.
Speaker 4 (19:58):
But as coach Rick.
Speaker 5 (19:59):
Von Terry told me earlier this week, if he can
go from being forty seven.
Speaker 4 (20:03):
To fifty five percent. That to me could be a huge.
Speaker 5 (20:06):
Difference in the amount of opportunities you have to score
and keep drivers a.
Speaker 1 (20:09):
Live Oh yeah, absolutely. That's James Boyd as the Athletic
and the Fan Morning Show joining us to a network
Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk. I'm Eda Garrison filling in for
the coach, Bob Lovel. Let's take a look now, James
on some of the rookies that have performed in training
camp and some that have not. Talked with Tyler Warren
earlier with Casey Valier. Let's go to the second round pick.
(20:31):
What have you been able to make or not make
so far of JT Twoey mull Allow.
Speaker 4 (20:36):
I think JC has had a solid camp.
Speaker 5 (20:38):
Obviously there's going to be some learning curve there going
from the collegiate level to the NFL level. But I
thought he had a very good play today on a
pass that was counted as an Anthony versus in touchdown
to Drew Ogletree. I believe in the back of the
end zone actually a really good throw for Anthony. However,
I don't think that story gets off in a real
game because JTT beat his.
Speaker 4 (20:59):
Guy off the edge and got in the backfulp pretty quickly.
Speaker 5 (21:01):
So I think he's shown some inside and outside versatility,
whether it's on the edge or you know, kind of
getting on the interior.
Speaker 4 (21:07):
And I think that he can kind of give you
a little bit of what dial.
Speaker 5 (21:10):
Dango gave you, which is again that inside outside versatility. Now,
obviously Dio is in Chicago now, but he did play
the most snaps of any cold defensive lineman last year,
so in his absence that should give a guy like
you know, JT. Towey Moloile an opportunity to get some
reps in and to kind of build on his, you know,
budding career.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
So I think that he's shown some promise so far.
But obviously, you know, I've talked about a lot.
Speaker 5 (21:32):
Of quarterbacks, Eddie, but with defensive players, you want to
see the real games too, because right now nobody can
really hit. So yeah, it looks good, but can you
actually deliver when it's real football?
Speaker 1 (21:43):
Uh? Have we figured out what Chris Ballard likes? It
seems like a first name letter J, last name letter
T S. We've got what four JT's on this on
the team right now.
Speaker 5 (21:54):
I'm trying to think of the ones you're getting that
you got Jalen Travis, JT. Towey, Moloao, you have Jonathan Taylor.
Speaker 4 (22:01):
Who's the other.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
One, Josh Tapowell.
Speaker 4 (22:04):
Oh yeah, just got picked up. I believe he played
in Cincinnati for a couple.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
Of years he did.
Speaker 5 (22:09):
Yeah, man, that is ironic. So we'll see if they
can deliver with the jczs.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
James, have a great rest of your weekend. I know
you got to go out to Baltimore, so those safe
travels out there as well.
Speaker 4 (22:19):
My friend, appreciate you. Brother, have a good one.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
That's James Boyd to the athletic Little Baseball action. Next
with Brendan King on Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk.
Speaker 2 (22:31):
Landon CUNS here with you once again for yet another
Indiana Sportstocks scoreboard update. Colts Camp well in underway. Zire
Franklin had his first practice of the day. Here's in
a remo on the linebacker room.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
Here's the good news about that room, as we're still
working through it and it's you know what practice seven
eight today, whatever it is. We haven't even played a
preseason game, so I love the competition that's going on
in there and all that will sort itself out as
we get through these joint practices that we're having, and
the good news is I believe will come out of
it with a deep room. I want to be able
to use those guys, whatever their strengths may be, to
(23:04):
the best of our ability, and I feel like all
of them at some point will help us.
Speaker 2 (23:08):
Anthony Richardson had a rocky day at training camp today,
going three for ten. Dale Jones quite the opposite a
pretty solid day from him, going eleven for fourteen on
the day. Practice continues tomorrow from ten am all the
way until eleven thirty am, and then on Tuesday, August fifth,
the Baltimore Ravens will host the Coats the Colts in
a joint practice, and then the Colts will host the
(23:29):
Green Bay Packers and a joint practice on Thursday, August fourteenth.
Indiana Fever get the eighty eight to seventy eight Wing
or seventy eight win over the Dallas Wings last night.
Kelsey Mitchell leading scorer with twenty three points. Fever are
back in action tomorrow to take on the Seattle Storm.
Tip Off is at three o'clock. You can watch that
game on ABC and you can listen to it on
(23:50):
our flagship station on ninety three five and one oh
seven five the Fan the Speedway Classic from Bristol Motor
Speedway in the MLB is suspended after one in since
I reads lead won nothing. That game resumes tomorrow at
one o'clock. Next time, we're gonna have Brendan King joy
Us talk to Eddie about the South Bend Cubs and
(24:10):
their win of the Quad City River Bandits. For New
K Indiana Sports Alanda Coons.
Speaker 1 (24:20):
It is Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Talk. Only one more
update from Landon Kuons and that'll be in fifteen minutes
right here on Network Indiana or wherever you're listening to us.
We appreciate that someone who you hear pretty much every
Friday and Saturday night on these airwaves is Brendan King,
the voice of the South Bend Cubs, and as Landon said, BK,
victorious night for the Cubby.
Speaker 6 (24:41):
He's at the Ballyard and it's an important one, Eddie,
where the Cubs pull off a one nothing win against
first place Squad Cities and with that the Cubs are
gonna gain a game in the division and most importantly,
after losing three of the first four in the week.
You know, in these six game series, Eddie, in the
minor league, you know how it goes. You're always hoping
for series split at the very least, and especially in
(25:03):
these Key West Division series because there's just over a
month left in the season and the Cubs were three
games back in the division entering this week again losing
three of the first four, finding a way to win tonight,
won nothing and shut out fashion and then going into
tomorrow on a Sunday at four wins Field. Anything can
happen and we'll see if you can finish off this
series with a split. But again, it's an important W
(25:24):
considering you know, the Cubs could have lost this series tonight.
Instead they rallied back with a W and we'll see
what happens tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (25:32):
Now, let me ask you this. You've been in the
minors for the South, been cause for how long six years? Now?
When you first started, did you research the history of
the opponent and how they come up with their names
and whatnot?
Speaker 6 (25:48):
You know it's probably in some cases, yeah, you know,
because you know there's some wacky names around the around
the spectrum of minor league baseball. Now, you know, in
my first year when I was out in Boise, Idaho,
there was a team called the Salem Kaiser Volcanoes out
in Oregon. Really well, there are no volcanoes in Kaiser, Oregon.
Speaker 4 (26:09):
I don't know if you knew that, but.
Speaker 6 (26:11):
You know so, no, I did look that up. If
there are volcanoes and Kaiser, and ultimately I was disappointed.
Speaker 1 (26:17):
Yeah, well, I ask you this is because I'm trying
to figure out how they decided on river Bandits. But
it looks like it was quite literally a vote, and
the contest featured the river bandits, the swing, the channel cats,
the current river Eagles, and the talents.
Speaker 6 (26:35):
Interesting. Yeah, so I don't know exactly how it happened.
You clearly have done more research than I have, so
credit to you. What I will say is river Bandit
makes a little sense because it is that ballpark there, Davinport,
right on the Mississippi River, and it's fifteen feet off
the banks of the Big Money. So I guess back
in the day in the state of Iowa, there a
(26:56):
lot of people doing business in the Mississippi River if
you catch my drift there and the river bandages where
they got their name.
Speaker 1 (27:03):
Now this this game, of course being played in South
Bend and they got another six team homestand it's the
end state rivalry against the Fort Wayne Tingcaps. So I
don't get the host. Next week, as you know, coach
Delville makes his return. So I think we need to
get you, Bob and Mike Moss all on the air
at the same time and just have some fisticuffs on
the radio.
Speaker 4 (27:23):
I don't know if that's even possible. You know, that
would be that.
Speaker 6 (27:27):
Would be quite something. Now you brought up that series,
It's going to be really interesting to watch from an
actual baseball perspective because, as you know, Leo Devrees, the
TinCaps shortstop, was traded in the Mason Miller deal between
San Diego and Sacramento or the A's or whatever you
want to call him. So Fort Wayne's roster is truly imploded, Eddie,
So that is going to be interesting. We got the
Fort Wayne roster today and you know, we saw them
(27:48):
about a month ago, and that roster looks nothing like
the last time we saw him. So that's gonna be
something to watch next week.
Speaker 1 (27:54):
Now, South Bend wasn't infected or impacted at all by
the trade deadline for the Cup. The moves that the
Cubs made right.
Speaker 6 (28:00):
We were slightly actually in the Taylor Rodgers deal. Of course,
your Cincinnati REGs traded Taylor Rodgers to the Pittsburgh Pirates
in one twenty four hour cycle. Then the Pirates flipped
him for outfielder Ivan Brettauer, who is our starting right
fielder for all this season. So Brettauer heads back to
the Pirates.
Speaker 5 (28:17):
But that's it.
Speaker 6 (28:19):
And you know, Eddie, we were on Marque Sports Network
tonight and that's something that we were discussing on Arrows.
You know, you just never know what the trade deadline
is going to bring about every single year. But you know,
guys like Christian Hernandez and Jefferson Rojas at our level
and then even upwards of guys like Jackson Wiggins at
Double A or Own Casey at Triple A, and I
think some Cubs fans are breathing a sigh of relief
(28:39):
that those guys are still in the organization, because you know,
if the Cubs made one or two more moves, you
can probably bet that those names would not be in
the system.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
So what did you think of the moves that the
that the Cubs made at the deadline? They get utility
Ben Willie Castro from the Minnesota Twins. You already touched
on Taylor Rodgers, Andrew Kitchrade, your relief atcher from the
Orioles who made his debut yes Y's Day, and Michael
Soroka from the Nationals.
Speaker 7 (29:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (29:05):
I texted you this the other day. You know, I
think some people in Chicago. You know, I have a
point that the Cubs weren't overly aggressive at the trade deadline.
But in my mind, Eddie, watching minor league based on
a daily basis and also growing up a Cubs fan,
I think the Cubs did exactly what they needed to
do to solidify their bullpen and also get a nice
bat off the bench. Heck, Willie Castro debuted today, Eddie,
(29:26):
and even though the Cubs lost to the Orioles, he
had two hits. He looked outstanding, did Willie Castro? And
the Cubs really didn't pay a ton for him. Two
minor league pitchers, one of them Ryan Gallagher, who was
with the South Bend Cubs to start the season. So
as much as losing Gallagher is not ideal, the Cubs
get a good bat off the bench. Here's what I'll
say about the Cubs not going after a frontline starter
(29:47):
like Mackenzie Moore, Mackenzie Gore, or Joe Ryan. And I'm
the biggest Joe Ryan fan there is. He was on
my Cape Cod Baseball League team back in twenty sixteen.
Joe and I are still close to this day. I
was dying for him to be on the Cubs. But
I understand end of why Jed Hoyer did not go
after those two. A. They're not going to be controllable
for that long in the grand scheme of things. You're
(30:08):
gonna have to eventually pay them again and take that risk,
just like he did with Kyle Tucker this year. B.
You're gonna have to give up probably a four prospects
set of for these guys, either Owen Casey, Kevin Alkintar,
James Treanto's, Jefferson Rols, Christian Hernandez, Jackson Wiggins. The last
point I'll make is the Cubs minor league system is
not all that sharp in terms of pitching depth. The
(30:31):
Cubs have giving up a lot of pitching in trades
over the last number of years, and they have not
drafted as many pitchers in recent years. So I will
say the pitching in the Cubs system is a little thin.
So I wouldn't be comfortable giving up Jackson Wiggins when
you've already traded guys like Ryan Gallagher and Sam Armstrong.
All this culminating into the point I think the Cubs
did exactly what they needed to do without being overly flashy,
(30:53):
and in turn, they had the best record in baseball
Eddie two weeks ago. You know this is not a
ball club that is a bottom of the barrel or
mid pack team. You know they had the best record
in baseball up until a week.
Speaker 4 (31:02):
And a half ago.
Speaker 6 (31:03):
And he went out and he got a number of
good relievers. As you said, get Ridge. He made his
Cubs debut against his former team, a scoreless sitting in
a shutout a couple of nights ago.
Speaker 4 (31:11):
So I'm happy with it.
Speaker 6 (31:13):
But I do think some in Chicago that raised the
point of the Cubs were not aggressive enough. They might
have a point, sure, but I think Jed Hoyer was
able to do what he needed to do to solidify
this season and make a playoff run while also keeping
in mind the future post.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
All Star breaks. So far, Cubs have played seven games
pitching staff twenty second in the LLB. It goes without
saying that the offense for the Cubs has been pretty
consistent within the top five. Right now they are third
in the league. Do you worry at all that if
the offense struggles during the postseason that the pitching staff
will be able to keep them in the game.
Speaker 6 (31:50):
I think, when it comes to postseason baseball, every single
facet of the game. You know, as Frank Reich used
to say, the Colts were strong in all three phases.
He always brought up phases when he was the cold
said coach, when it comes to postseason baseball, you need
to be strong in every single phase of the game
because the littlest mistake.
Speaker 4 (32:06):
Can cost you a playoff game.
Speaker 6 (32:08):
How often have we seen that? Right where a base
running mistake ofst you a playoff game years ago when
the Razor in the World Series pulling Blakes now cost
them a playoff. Little decisions can cost you playoff games.
And I don't think the Cubs need to get caught
up in worries that bats like Pete krarm Stronger Kyle
Tucker are going to struggle in the postseason. I think
you got to show up with the guys you got,
(32:28):
specially with the trades that Jetta has made. You have
solidified the bullpen. You brought a good piece in Willie
cast off the bench, and you're still going to get
some guys back from injuries. For example, Yen c al
Monte rehabbing with the South Bank Cubs right now. He
look sharp on Wednesday, likely to throw again tomorrow. That's
a bullpen piece that nobody's talking about that I think
can help the Cubs in the long run. So I
think when it comes to postseason play outy, you just
(32:49):
got to worry about your decision making being strong in
all facets of the game, and then the rest will
take care of himself.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
Of Course, they're missing Jamis and Tyon right now, and
they haven't had Justin Seal for most of the season
in BK and conclusion here and Eli Morgan just begin
a rehab assignment not too long ago. So help seems
to be on the way for the bullpen, at least
for the Chicago Cubs. Today the Major League Baseball they
decided to play out in Bristol Red's Braves postponed to tomorrow.
(33:17):
But I do think, and I talked to Howard Kevin
about this earlier, that this is the right thinking for
Major League Baseball to try to institute different things to
draw in more fans. You saw it was over eighty
thousand they've played in Mexico before. They continue to do
the Little League World Series games. If you had to
pick the next place that Major League Baseball goes to
(33:38):
do something like that, where would you pick?
Speaker 6 (33:40):
Oh Man, that's a heck of a question. I don't
know if I could provide a good answer for you
here in twenty seconds. But I think probably the coolest
thing that you can go do right now is do
what the NHL did a few years ago. Go play
out in Lake Tahoe. Find a way to get a
field right beside the water in the mountains. I think
that'd be pretty nasty.
Speaker 1 (33:58):
That would be pretty cool, Pretty cool that you knew
the clock as well.
Speaker 2 (34:01):
BK.
Speaker 1 (34:01):
Have a great call tomorrow and enjoy.
Speaker 6 (34:03):
The homestand thanks, Eddie, appreciate you.
Speaker 1 (34:05):
We'll come up. We'll go back to Landon Kuon's final
update next. You're a network Indiana's Indiana Sports Stock.
Speaker 2 (34:17):
Landon Kuon's here for the final time on this Indiana
sports sock scoreboard update. Colts Camp well underway and it's
a great day to be ady Mitchell looking good out there.
His Jim Bob Cooter.
Speaker 7 (34:28):
He's done a really nice job making plays this past week.
He's had a bunch of opportunities, Like all these receivers,
sometimes you get a few more, you get a few less.
Each week, AD's numbers been called a few times and
the quarterbacks have looked his way a few extra times,
and he's taking advantage of those things. You know, we had,
you know, a little backed up situation today and Shoot,
quarterback looked out there and saw ad Mitchell one on one,
(34:50):
I'm gonna throw it to a d He's gonna get
us out of this backed up situation.
Speaker 4 (34:53):
And he was.
Speaker 7 (34:54):
He was there for the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (34:55):
He was open.
Speaker 7 (34:56):
So as a receiver, Shoot, it's our job. At your job.
Everything you can do to get open, every play, make
every catch, you can keep improving as a player.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
He's doing that. In terms of the quarterback competition, Anthony
Richson had a rocky day to day, going three for ten.
Dale Jones pretty solid day, going eleven for fourteen. Zire
Franklin had his first practice. Here's le Narumo on the
locker in the linebackers the room situation.
Speaker 3 (35:20):
Here's the good news about that room as we're still
working through it and it's you know what, practice seven
eight today, whatever it is if we haven't even played
a preseason game. So I love the competition that's going
on in there and all that will sort itself out
as we get through these joint practices that we're having,
and the good news is I believe will come out
of it with a deep room. I want to be
able to use those guys, whatever their strengths may be,
(35:40):
to the best of our ability, and I feel like
all of them at some point will help us.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
The Indiana Fever are going for their fifth straight win
on the season tomorrow afternoon as they will take on
the Seattle Storm. Tip off is at tomorrow at three o'clock.
You can watch that on ABC and you can listen
to on our Flax SIP station on ninety three five
and one oh seven five the fan for Never Candia
Sports a many coons.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
Nice job tonight, Landed, and if you don't mind hopping
back on here real quick, we were discussing earlier. We
talked about Alex Pilow's dominance in the NTT IndyCar Series
and I put you on the spot with like thirty seconds.
I know you've had about oh, I don't know, a
half hour or so forty five minutes. Asked you about
silly Season and you said, Linis Lungquis is going to
(36:27):
be back in IndyCar next year. You got any other
silly season stuff, and now those are unfamiliar. Silly season
pretty much is the term that they use an IndyCar
for free agency or kind of like offseason acquisitions transactions
or whatever, from drivers going to new teams, et cetera,
et cetera.
Speaker 2 (36:44):
So, yeah, I made my prediction, least on quiz liily
that next year for who I have no idea. I
think if you could get.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
Well, I didn't ask you that, that's just a prediction,
then he'll be back in. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
Yeah, I could see him back in. I think if
you were to get a ride anywhere, I mean, I
could see maybe taking Jacob Babel back out and getting
Linis a shot. Him and Linas and Renus together I
think would be an incredible combo.
Speaker 1 (37:08):
Oh, that would be horrible to try to.
Speaker 2 (37:10):
Be It'd be horrible for the announcers, like.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
An owner like Linis, I mean, Renus, Leena.
Speaker 2 (37:15):
It'd be a spoder nightmare too, it's like.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
A parent and they've got like three kids, and like
they're all own enough to where you have to get
on each one of them for something, and you're like, Jerry, no, Tom,
I mean bo Yeah, Jerry Yeah.
Speaker 2 (37:30):
I think if I had any other predictions the whole
will Power and David Malucas thing, I think they stay
where they're at.
Speaker 1 (37:37):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (37:38):
Will Power is way too good in that ride, yep.
And like, yes, David Lucas is a rising star and
they kind of made this on a point Kevin Lee
and Kirk Cavin did on track side. Look at how
Joseph Newgarden got to Team Penske. He won his way
with another team with ed Carbon Racing, and he worked
his way up and that caught Rider estentially said hey,
(37:58):
I want that guy. Yeah, David hasn't really done that yet. Like, yes,
he looks really good on ovals and you know, he
got second in the Indy five hundred this year. He's
always a thret for oval ones, but he hasn't reached
that winning stretch yet. So I can see the willpower
David Malucas things staying where it is. Will it does
another year at Penske David does another year at COIN.
(38:24):
I know next year we're gonna have Arlington on the schedule.
That track looks incredible. It's a very f one street
circuit type track. I think it'd be cool to see
them go back to Mexico City. I know that's been
a strong rumor. I think that's all but confirmed for
next year. And I know, I know NASCAR said they
won't be going back to NASCAR or A. NASCAR won't
be going back to Mexico in twenty twenty six, So
I think that'll be interesting. If indykar can steal that
(38:46):
away from him.
Speaker 1 (38:47):
That would be very interesting. In the other part of this, too,
is Roger Penske making the decisions that forteen Penske, like
I understand his name's on the door, but like you
see the guy that makes that decision at the end
of the day on which driver would replace, potentially will Power.
Speaker 2 (39:04):
I think he would because you know, it's been a
rough year for lightly Yeah, I mean, yeah, that is
the nicest way I could say it. You know, Roger
lost a lot of employees and you know this Aside
from that, it hasn't really gone well for all three drivers. Really,
Joseph's had Joseph's been the best one, but the results
(39:27):
don't show for what he's been capable of. So I
mean I would say in the end, Roger has the
final say and if Will Stayser goes Jay.
Speaker 1 (39:37):
So I'll loop you in here for this final portion
of the conversation. You've heard me talk to Scott Agnes.
You've heard me talk to Casey Valier about this Indiana
State Fair just started last night or yesterday. Technically, go
to foods. Casey Valier went corn on the cob and
he said on the cob and not off the cob.
(39:59):
He not cutting it off the tenderloin and then funnel
cake or elephant ear one of the two. Scott Agnes said,
go to the dairy now, he said, dairy barn. It's
the dairy bar, and it's a bar. You go up
there and get served. It is not a barn. If
you if it's a bar, and then we would have
animals in there. We do not get a milkshake and
a grilled cheese. It comes though, it is true, but
(40:21):
it's the dairy bar. We've had the American Dairy Association
clear that up for us earlier this week. What are
the go tos. When you go to the State Fair.
Speaker 8 (40:28):
I get one thing every single time. That is the
elephant Elephant air.
Speaker 1 (40:33):
Now do you go with?
Speaker 2 (40:34):
Do you go with?
Speaker 1 (40:35):
Cinnamon?
Speaker 8 (40:37):
Always?
Speaker 2 (40:37):
Okay, I look at it. I mean you're looking at me.
I mean I don't know if this is really casual.
Not the Deep Fried Reese's peanut butter cups those always,
those are so good.
Speaker 1 (40:46):
I'll give my thoughts here. Next on Network Indiana's Indiana
Sports Talk segment, Network Indiana Indiana Sports Stock. When I
thank everyone for joining us tonight, including you as the listeners.
(41:07):
Greg Raigstron joined us. We talked India eleven high school football,
Indianapolis Colts. That was in the first half hour of
the show. And then in the ten o'clock hour, Casey
Valier in Games, studio host and radio coordinator for the
Indianapolis Colts, joined us to guests, I guess you can
figure it out what we talked about. Yeah, we talked
(41:27):
about softball. I'm just kidding. No, talked about the Indianapolis Colts.
In the first eight practices of training camp, only five
left to go, which is shocking. Feels just like yesterday
that they were reporting for camp. And next thing. You know,
it's pretty much almost over. We got three preseason games,
one next week in Baltimore against the Ravens and then
at the Green Bay Packers, and conclude things in Cincinnati
(41:48):
against the Bengals August twenty second, twenty third. It's one
of those two days. Scott Agnes joined us as well,
talked Fever and Pacers. Should Victor Oladipo be signed by Indiana?
Did that work out even even happen with those coaches, scouts,
executives in attendance, That is still to really be determined.
(42:10):
And then James Boyd joined us eleven o'clock hour, as
did Brendan King. All those conversations are made available one
O seven five of the fan dot Com. Click on
the show's tab and then you can go down to
Indiana Sports Talk and you can go back and listen
to what each of those respective guests had to say
during the course of the program tonight. And I've been
asking everybody pretty much their go to food item at
(42:34):
the Indiana State Fair. And as soon as we went
to break, Jase, I heard you say that you'd like
to make an amendment.
Speaker 8 (42:40):
Yeah, I want to change my answer from elfant ear
to the deep fried Oreo.
Speaker 1 (42:45):
Okay, that's a good one good staple right there. I
am too, a big deep pride aureo guy. Now. I
also always the first thing I do I go to
the State Fair, I get an aircorn. That's obligatory. Number two.
I tried to get one of the items that it
is a featured item that is only there for that year.
(43:06):
So like I know at the American Dairy Association, at
the dairy Bar, they've got a smoked guda que cheese.
So it's smoked Gouda with the cheese and it's got
barbecue sauce in it. I've heard rave reviews. Everyone seems
to like it. I may be able to try. When
I made my way out of the State Fair. Key
lime pie is their milkshake flavor of this year's State Fair.
(43:29):
Last year was blueberry, and I guess they said the
blueberry was the most popular. But I will not be
indulging in key lime pie. I'm not a big key
lime pie guy, so I'll let everyone else handle that.
But always get a milkshake, Always get a grilled cheese
in some sort, and a corn on the cop. Those
are the three things that you must get at the
Indiana State Fair.
Speaker 8 (43:46):
I respect it. I don't get much. I'm min a
state Fair honestly in two or three years now. But
when I do go elephant hear deep Fried Oreo, and
I'll get something small to yes, Bunny, we all, I'll.
Speaker 1 (43:55):
Do busy day tomorrow. Let's take a look at what's
going on. Nice job tonight, Jason, the ones and twos,
Nice job tonight, Lane and Coons every fifteen minutes with
the scoreboard updates. Indiana Fever or back in action tomorrow
at Sunday in Seattle. Three o'clock. Tip two forty five
is the pregame coverage. I will have it. You can
listen to it. I want to seven five thefan dot com.
(44:17):
The Indianapolis Culture back on the practice field at Grand Park.
It is their ninth practice, so they'll have four more
tomorrow morning at ten o'clock if you want to make
that trip. Once again, thank you to Greg rekestrasscad Agnes
Casey Valier, James Boy, Brendan King, and thanks to you
for listening to the network Indiana's Indiana's Sports Talk. Have
(44:39):
a great night and a great rest of your weekend.
