Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good evening everybody, and welcome to Network Indiana's Indiana Sports
Talk and Bob Lovell. It's brought to you by Indiana
Donor Network. We are so glad you're with us. Season
thirty two underway last night continues tonight. We have a
lot of football to talk about, a lot of racing,
some baseball right now. Though he's the star of our show,

(00:21):
It's Network Indiana's Landon Kuns Coach.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Pleasure to be with you on this Saturday night with
our producers Jase Hodge and Caden Colford. Let's start off
with Colts Camp. Anthony Richardson did not have a great
day and he struggled to play after that dislocated pinky
finger went one of six on full on one eleven
on eleven, although he did hit two throws to Ady
Mitchell while being on seven on seven. Dale Jones did

(00:46):
have a soliday, going five to six on fall eleven
on eleven coming off Colts Coming off that Thursday night
loss preseason Week one game to the Baltimore Ravens, looking
over to the Indiana Fever down the road at Gamebridge
Shield House get ready to start the fourth quarter. Fever
leads seventy four to fifty four over the Chicago Sky.
The leading score for the Fever as of right now

(01:07):
Kelsey Mitchell with twenty one, Elia Boston with fifteen, Sophie
Cunningham with fourteen, and Natasha Hwer chipping in with ten rebounds.
We're gonna getting some Indy car stuff later on through
the night, as Christian Linguard claimed pole position but will
not start on pole as he was given a sixth
place grid penalty for unapproved engine adjustments, giving that pole

(01:28):
position to his Aaron McLaren teammate Poto Award. We're gonna
have some MLB MiLB, more colts and Fever and Nascar
are coming up throughout the night as we go on,
But for now for Network Indiana Sports, my names Lana Koons.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
Welcome back, all right, land and great to have you back.
Glad you're here.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
R to be here, sir, Hey.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Landing, I'm just telling you what, there's a lot going on.
I mean, you don't have enough time in your school
board up there's maybe the top of the hour with
five minutes, but trying to squeeze stuff in two minutes
on these things, that's hard to do.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
It really is because like I feel like I can
if we had five minute updates throughout the entire night,
I feel like this would be a lot easier for me.
But that means I take time away from you coaching.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
I don't want to.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
No, no, Listen, you know we've been on a long time,
obviously thirty second year we've been on the air. At
some points. Look, I'm smart enough to understand that even
though my name's on it. I mean, you'll notice that
it's not I fought, have fought and won the battle.
I grudgingly gave in and allowed them the opportunity to

(02:34):
call it Indiana Sports Talk with Bob Lovell because I
did not. You know, I have this and that people
tell me I'm crazy, which is fine. That the show's
not about me. It's not supposed to be about me.
The show is actually about those school board updates. And
so you know, in two weeks or under two weeks,
when we get started with season number thirty two covering

(02:57):
high school football, they don't tune into listening to me.
They tuned in to hear those scores. Now you know that,
I know that I'm fine with it, but at various
times in the course of the show. I've gone to
the folks in charge, just how it shows you how
much power I actually have. I go to them and say, look,
you know, I think it'd be great if we did

(03:17):
three minutes of school board updates. Oh no, we're just
going to keep it at too. I go, people want
to listen to scores, and we just need to give
them more scores. And it was I lost it. I
have fought that battle more than once and lost and
still don't understand why.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
Yeah, I still don't understand that either, but I appreciate
you sticking up for us, so well, you know what.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
It's also, I'm in the course of two and a
half hours on the air. I think I'm actually on
a little over an hour and a half, and I
think I'm overworked, So I think that may have been
part of it, the going, hey, look, you're not on
that much anyway, so why don't we just keep you
where you are? Which is fine, all right, Fever are

(04:00):
playing well in spite of having no point guards.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
That is true. There is no Kitlon Clark. She is
still out with the with.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
The groin injury.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
And then most recently, we all know that we've lost
Sidney Colson within a c altear and Aerry MacDonald with
the broken right foot. But right now they seem to
be doing pretty well without them right now as they.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
That's right team, right place, right time, exact guy. I mean,
we'll call that as it is no offense to them,
but they're not playing well, and so you know it's, yeah,
it's if you're looking for the right team, you know
it's going to be a tough, tough stretch for them,
without question, oh for sure.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
And you know they Sky just called a time out
and Fever lead eighty to fifty five. Sophie kind of
him doing her thing. So yeah, Fever Fever are hitting
their strides right now. They're seventeen and fourteen on the season,
and like you kind of mentioned this guy, they're not
really the greatest team in the league right now, sitting
at eight and twenty two overall.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Yeah, Later on tonight, Scott Agnes from the Fieldhouse Files
talk about this game plus looking ahead and where they
are all right. So you you talked early during the
update about Colt's practice today and they had the game
last night. What went on at practice today? We know

(05:17):
Richardson with the finger, did he try to practice today?

Speaker 2 (05:21):
He did, and it did not go well for him.
He went one of six on a full eleven on eleven,
he did hit a couple of throws to eighty Mitchell,
but that was only being seven on seven. He had
a tempt with Ashton Dowan that didn't connect. He had
a good pass to Michael Pittman Junior. It was good,
but Pittman ultimately dropped it in the end zone, and

(05:42):
he did have a completion slant to Alex Pearce.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Yikes. So have you ever had a broken finger?

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Yes, yes, I have. Actually I brought my I brought
my pinky at the end of last year.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
So that's you can relate to what he's going through right.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
A little bit.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Yeah, it's hard, you know when you when you have that,
I mean, the pain is the pain, but still trying
to grip the ball and all of your fingers important
in doing that, And so I think it'd be extremely difficult.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
Oh, it most definitely is.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
And like how he's able to keep playing through this
is actually it's pretty remarkable to be able to keep
going with with a essentially a broken pinky. I mean,
I know that can't be easy.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
No, No, I'm.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
Assuming he was all taped up. But yeah, they I know,
I believe I heard coached. I can say earlier that
he was kind of day to day on how he
was going to be well.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
I think that that's the best way to play it.
All right, talk to me about qualifications on Indycart today.
You mentioned that we had some we had to switch
some things around. Correct, walk me through what happened.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
That is correct. So Christian Lingard technically earned the award
for pole position, but earlier in the day it was
announced that he was given a sixth place grid penalty
for on a proved engine adjustments. So instead of starting first,
he will drop down to seventh, and his teammate Poto Award,
who was originally starting second, will now be on the
po We'll be on the pole position.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
All right. Landon cons with us every fifteen minutes, and
whenever we need him short break, we'll come back and
talk more. This is Indiana Sports Tunk. Welcome back everyone
and Bob Lovel. This is Indiana Sports Tunk. Glad you're
with us. Season number thirty two has begun. We're glad

(07:34):
you were with us last night. Always remember we are
on on Friday and Saturday night. We've been that way
for thirty two seasons. Coming up on the twenty second,
we begin high school football coverage for our thirty second season,
and we're excited about that. And to coincide with that,
we do have mister Paul Condrey from the regional radio

(07:56):
Sports network who will join us later on tonight. Looking
at the Indiana Football Digest, the most recent one and
the brand new one is out. It's beautiful, It's magnificent.
It is unbelievable in terms of the amount of information.
It's staggering, three hundred and ninety six pages. Just to

(08:23):
be accurate, here outline on every team in the state,
all the college teams, information about the colts, schedules, look
at key players. If you haven't seen a copy, don't
have a copy. If you want to know more about
football in the state of Indiana, you need this magnificent publication.

(08:44):
I frankly can't do Indiana sports talk without it, and
it's it's that important. I greatly recommend it. Easiest way
to get a copy Indiana Footballdigest dot com. Navigate your
way through, buy it, or go to your local high school.
Paul has a situation with the schools that they can

(09:05):
make some money for their programs by selling copies of
the Indiana Football Digest. So help your school out and
help your program out by buying a copy of the magazine.
So that's coming up. What's interesting here with high school
football is it's it's been hot. It's just been a
hot summer. I don't envy any of those guys, but

(09:26):
we're going to be ready to get started on the
twenty second and Paul and I later on tonight we'll
talk about, you know, top teams. We try to stay
away from top players this early, although you need to
be aware on his magazine and what he calls his
primetime twenty five, there are some great, great players. And

(09:48):
we're getting better and better, doing more and more in
terms of major college programs coming into the state and
recruiting our kids and having a good time with that.
All right, Land and Couns, you're back up, my brother.
So we have racing. We talked about that and what's
happening with NASCAR tonight.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
So we NASCAR is in Watkins, Glenn this weekend. They
had the Infinity Series race Older today a little bit
of an awkward scenario. So Connor Zilich won for the
sixth time race year. He's a nineteen year old rookie.
After he won, he goes up on top of the car,
goes to celebrate. He got his foot caught in the
window net. He slipped and fell and he hit his

(10:27):
head in Vicky Lane. It was a very scary situation.
Right Luckily he was able to They took him away
on a stretcher. He was talking to the paramedics and
a little bit ago he posted on social media saying
CT scans of his heads were clear.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
Huh.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
But he did suffer a broken collar bone out of
that one, and he is scheduled to compete in tomorrow's
NASCAR Cup Series race from Hawkins Glenn.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
But it is TB race or not.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
All right, it is. It's crazy Alic talks in baseball.
Howard Gilman joins me, the voice let, longtime Hall of
Fame voice of the Indianapolis Indians, Howard. I'm sorry we
lost Howard. We'll pick him back up here in just
a second. I'm still trying to grasp winning a race
and breaking your collar bone after you've won a race.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
Landing helped me, like, okay, coach, I'll tell you this.
I was getting prepared for tonight's show, and I had
it pulled up my little TV in here. I saw
it and even the commentaries, and you know, we'll hear
from Adam Alexander later tonight. I think everyone was just
dumbfounded by what just happened like that, Like there's no
way that just happened. But luckily Connor is is all right,

(11:36):
minus the collarbone and just that he's still in good
spirits about it.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
Wow. I mean, I'm seldom speechless, but I have no
idea what to say. I'm glad he's okay. I'm glad
he won. Adam's gonna call us a little bit later,
so we'll talk about that, all right. Scoreboard update with
landon Coon's right now, busiest guy. We know. We're back
with much more to come on Network Indiana's Indiana Sports Stuck.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
The Indiana Fever continue to pile on for the Chicago
Sky currently leading leading eighty two to sixty two, five
ten remaining in this game, and what a better way
to start the fourth quarter with Lexi Hall heading back
to back triples chicks left corner Alexi for three. Oh yeah,
hands it off to Lexi has room fires again.

Speaker 1 (12:27):
Good again She's bad time out Sky's.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
Eighty up fifty five Fever with eight twenty left.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
What a performance tonight by.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
Indiana courtesy of John Nolan and the Fever Radio Network.
And we mentioned we're talking a little bit ago. Christian
Loinguard technically on pole position but not really. He was
able to get that P one award, but due to
an unapproved engine adjustment, he will drop six spots, meaning
he will eventually start seventh for tomorrow's race, top five

(13:04):
or to be top ten starting lineup POTO Award will
Is pollsitter elect alongside him will be Felix Rosenquist, Third
will be Will Power, Fourth David Malucas. Alex Polo trying
to get his fourth championship and third championship in a row.
He could seal that title up tomorrow He'll be rolling
off in the fifth position. Alexander Rossi will start sixth,

(13:25):
Christian Linguard, like we mentioned, will start seventh, Marcus Armstrong eighth,
Scott Dixon ninth, and Marcus Erickson tenth. And here's the thing, Coach,
if Alex Polo gets that championship, he will join Elite Company.
He'll be tied third all time with some of these
other some of these other championships. He'll be alongside Mario Andretti,
Sebastian Borde and his mentor Dario Frank Kety for Neverck

(13:48):
Indiana Sports Almana Coons.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
Welcome back everyone. This is Indiana's Sportstoff Season thirty two.
It's pretty fun though, look back, I can think about
that Landon Kuons. We may have talked about this earlier.
I know I talked with Jas about it. We have

(14:11):
no one working on the show, with the possible exception
of Brad Huber, who were born before we started the show.

Speaker 3 (14:17):
That's a crazy idea to think about.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
It really is, Well, how do you think I feel
about it? I mean, since you know? I mean, yeah,
you guys, I don't even know. I mean, how old
are you?

Speaker 3 (14:32):
I am twenty three?

Speaker 1 (14:33):
Yeah, that seems to be kind of where that seems
to be on part right, Well, it seems to be
the range of where guys are, you know, recent graduates,
guys who are still like you, wrapping up their college careers,
those kinds of things. I'm not thirty two. That's long
long in the in the rearview mirror. That's that's been gone.

(14:54):
For quite a while. I will I'm seventy four, if
it's possible to believe that, and that hurts just to say,
quite quite frankly, but it's, you know, cool thing is
we're still We're still on, We're still plugging away. We
haven't really changed too much. I'm sure there we have

(15:17):
our detractors who say we should change, like, you know,
change the host and change what we do. We're still
pretty true to the original mission of what we started
when that was to provide scores and interviews after games
high school and college football and basketball, which is primarily
what we do. And the the odd thing is, I

(15:38):
try to explain this to people in our business when
they asked me about the show. I so, I actually
do two different shows. I do an in season show
and I do a out of season show and uh,
and in between that take a couple of months off
in the summer, and so you know, our in season show,
everybody knows that that's uh. Coaches and media people call

(15:59):
me after games and high school football, college football, basketball,
that's the end season show. And then the out of
season show is kind of what we're doing right now.
If you will, to be technical, that's kind of what
we're doing right now. So yeah, you guys need you
need to age faster. It's hard for me to believe
that no one who works on the show was born

(16:23):
before we got started in August of nineteen ninety four.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
That's just insane to think about.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
Okay, I won't think about it anymore, you know, just
so you know, all right, catch me up to date
now on Colts schedule. So the game last night, kind
of what's the reaction that most people are having about
what they did last night? Well, what's the consensus of

(16:50):
opinion on how it went? Clearly disappointed about R's finger issue,
but beyond that, what was the thought for most people?

Speaker 2 (16:59):
I think think a lot of people I think would
be disappointed. But then again, it is just a regular
season game. I don't think obviously people are bummed out
about Anthony Richardson and his pinky finger. You know, a
lot of high hopes riding on him. You know, this
is his third year and like it feel like it's
the same story different here, you know, just he keeps

(17:20):
getting hurt and like everyone wants to see some progress
out of him. Everyone's just wanting the best for him.
I think some people were pretty hit or miss with
Dale Jones and Riley Leonard. But I think that's the
basic consensus after their twenty four to sixteen loss on
Thursday night. But they got week two preseason game is

(17:42):
a week from tonight at home against the Green Bay Packers.
Daniel Jones will be starting for that one, so that
one will be interesting to watch for sure.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
I think it will be interesting to watch. I think Jones,
I think is a capable backup. I think that's obviously
why they got him. I don't get amped up in
those kinds of things. I just you know, it is
a preseason game. It's always hard to evaluate, but I
think everyone understands with this group, it's going to be important.

(18:11):
I think it will be very important for them. And
I said it last night. I think it'll be very
important to get a good start. Oh.

Speaker 3 (18:18):
I think I think so too.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
I mean I feel like, I mean, like me count
of Like I mentioned too, It's it's preseason, so you know,
not a whole lot of eyes or are really are
really tuned on it. But I think it'll be definitely
definitely interesting to see for sure.

Speaker 1 (18:32):
Yeah. Absolutely. Riley Leonard, how do you do last time?
What do you think, do you how do you play?

Speaker 2 (18:39):
I think Riley did respectable for I think for what
anyone could ask for him on a on a debut
at like like that. I'm trying to get his stats
pulled up here in front of me as quick as
I can, uh looking at him.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
He was twelve or fourteen on the night.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
Haley had one interception, the lone interception of the night,
so a solid all debut. Anthony Richson was two or
three before he had that pinky injury, and Daniel Jones
two for twenty one or sorry, ten for twenty one.
I apologize. So just kind of a kind of an
okay night for everybody in the quarterback room.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
All right, So now the schedule is remind me again,
what's the schedule the rest of the week.

Speaker 2 (19:20):
So in terms of Colts camp, they had that the
practice today, they do have one practice tomorrow from four
to five thirty. Practice again the same time on Monday,
and then Thursday is that joint practice with the Green
Bay Packers that goes from three to five o'clock. And
that next Saturday, like I mentioned, a week from tonight,

(19:41):
Packers versus Colts right down the road at Lucashole Stadium.

Speaker 1 (19:45):
This all seems to be going quickly, does it not?

Speaker 3 (19:48):
It feels like it has.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
Everyone was kind of waiting, like God, I just can't
wait for all to get here.

Speaker 3 (19:52):
And then it's here. That's it's already taken off.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
And we got college football ride around corner, we got
high school football ride around the corner.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
It's just it's the great time right now.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
Yeah, if you're a football fan.

Speaker 3 (20:02):
Well that's what I'm alluding to.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
But it is clearly the dominant sport in the culture.
And so yeah, that's why there's so much anticipation about
all of it. And I think the big things were ahead.
You know, everyone's excited about I You clearly were to
talk about We talked about it last night. Later tonight,
Rob Blackman's going to join us and talk about Purdue football. Uh,

(20:27):
you know, new coach, new new year, new players. Clearly
a whole lot of anticipation and excitement about that. And
so there's a whole lot going on relative to football.
But we also, thanks to the fever, a chance to
talk a lot of football, excuse me, a lot of basketball.
As I mentioned earlier. Later on tonight, we're going to

(20:50):
be talking about the fever. Gonna be talking with Scott
Agners in the Fieldhouse Files. You're about to win over
the Chicago Sky tonight, which is good. Playing with an under,
with a depleted roster, so to speak. So that's always good.
And they continue to listen. They're a good they're a
good basketball team, and when they can get everybody together,

(21:12):
they're really good. All right, Top the hour scoreboard update.
When we come back, the aforementioned Rob Blackman and I
will talk about Purdue football. This is Indiana Sports Talk.
