"Ni är alla en bunt feminister – och jag hatar feminister!" Skriket skär genom klassrummet och lämnar efter sig ett vakuum av skräck. Mannen höjer vapnet. Sedan börjar han skjuta. Han riktar kulorna mot dem han ser som roten till allt sitt lidande. De som, enligt honom, har stulit hans jobb, hans utbildning och hans framtid. De som han håller ansvariga för varje misslyckande i sitt liv. De han hatar allra mest: kvinnor.
Skotten blandas med musiken på klubben, och många förstår till en början inte vad som pågår. Man tror att det bara är en effekt i låten. Först när vissa börjar skrika och springa inser besökarna allvaret. En masskjutare har tagit sig in på nattklubben Pulse – en plats som annars är en fristad för hbtq+-personer, men som nu förvandlats till något helt annat. Skräcken sprider sig genom rummet medan gärningsmannen skjuter för att döda så många han bara kan.
