Vesmírné závody se vracejí. Místo Sovětského svazu dnes Spojené státy soupeří s Čínou – a Měsíc se znovu stává jedním z hlavních bojišť. „Opět jsou tu dvě supervelmoci, které chtějí být první,“ říká ve Studiu N editor vědecké rubriky Deníku N Petr Koubský. „Let na Měsíc je drahá, komplikovaná a riziková záležitost. Z vědeckého hlediska mise Artemis II žádný velký přínos mít nebude. Automaty to mohou dělat daleko levněji a účinněji než lidé,“ podotýká. Ve vesmíru je podle něj řada jiných věcí ke zkoumání – často zajímavějších a atraktivnějších.
Do hry ale vstupuje politika a osobnosti. „Donald Trump je bombastický prezident s megalomanskými sklony, který takové milníky potřebuje, aby jimi mohl zkrášlit své prezidentství. Víc by byl po jeho chuti Mars, ale protože je to technicky neuskutečnitelné, musí se spokojit s Měsícem,“ míní Koubský.
