Speaker 1 (01:32):
Gentlemen, what's going on?
Speaker 6 (01:35):
It's the full crew back together once again.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
I asked you, guys, it just feels right. Isaiah was
in Vegas like thirty seconds ago. I just saw it.
Speaker 6 (01:43):
He didn't miss the show.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
Yeah, Tnny, how that works the show when kwyre But okay, okay.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
But yes, what does that say, Isaiah?
Speaker 2 (01:58):
How do you really feel that's what you tap out
on all your talkingdates?
Speaker 1 (02:03):
No more miss Cleo here, buddy.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Well, but Josh did a great job of hosting each
of the last two episodes. Phenomenal job. I thought last
week's episode was really fun with nicky Man. You guys
went through the UH went through the schedule, and we'll
do a little bit of that today just to get
Patrick and I's reaction on what the schedule looks like.
(02:27):
And Josh is gonna host that segment for a little bit,
just as he did UH last week as well. But
I thought it was fun because Nick comes in and
he's got.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
His own solo show. Now he kind of does his
own thing. I'm not sure he was ready for us. No,
he was definitely not ready for the energy. Yeah, things
are a little bit different.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
This podcasts a little different in that regard, which he
admitted to himself, I wouldn't have it any other way. Yeah,
I wouldn't it. And Nick, he comes in and Josh
has this regimented rundown where he's trying to piece it
all together and he's got mixed step by points and
then yeah, Nick just takes everything that you just did.
(03:08):
I think Mick shots. Wait, what was the last podcast, Beamer.
Was it Mick shots that just went or are they
going later? It doesn't matter, Nick, Josh's run down and
just like, yeah, forget everything that he just said, Uh,
we're going to use that, We're going to go buy
whatever is going to happen. And so he starts talking
about Isaiah as like what reminded him of Isaiah during
(03:29):
his training camp time?
Speaker 1 (03:30):
And I thought it was really fun. It's great.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
I thought it was great. I listened all the way
from Phoenix, Arizona.
Speaker 7 (03:35):
You want to be prepared, over prepared to where even
if you don't get to those points or anything like that,
at least you have the material there.
Speaker 6 (03:40):
You're prepared to go over wherever it takes you.
Speaker 7 (03:43):
Right, But especially having Nick on, he's just so he's
ready to just improvise.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
Into encyclopedia of Yeah, Alboys.
Speaker 6 (03:49):
Absolutely, he's improving on.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
It's crazy.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
His My favorite party trick that nick Eman does is
he takes the Super Bowls. I don't know if I
haven't tried him in a minute on this, Oh try
and catch up, but he can name every Super Bowl winner,
runner up, and MVP off the dome, like one through sixty.
Now he can do all of them, or at least
he did. At one point in time, we were sitting
(04:12):
in a barbecue joint in the middle of Mobile, Alabama
for the Senior Bowl, and he told me this, it's like,
I don't think whatever twenty three and he was bang, bang,
Well he gets winner, runner up, MVP.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
It's really impressive.
Speaker 7 (04:25):
He can tell you just about any Cowboys score in
the last you know, thirty years.
Speaker 6 (04:28):
It's it's pretty impressive.
Speaker 7 (04:29):
And then he's a beautiful mind of sort of it
comes to when it comes.
Speaker 6 (04:34):
To football and Cowboys related information.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
So I'm going to get him in like a custom
name plate for its deskause it just says Nick Eatman
quotes Beautiful mind.
Speaker 6 (04:42):
A Beautiful He loves that movie, by the way.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
Oh interesting, all right, Patrick, let's get into some news
and notes.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Not a ton going on.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
But there's pads to you, But there's pads on the field.
Speaker 4 (04:56):
Pat arupads on the field. So the Cowboys OTAs are
coming up here next week. The Boys will have veterans
and rookies on the same field at.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
The same time.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
Yeah, So that begins next week, so that is definitely
something to look forward to. And then of course mandatory
Mini camp occurs the weekend of Mini camp. Mandatory, so
I guess if you want to, if you want to
do with the note, you know which really so as
the at the moment, George Pickens has still not reported
to voluntary that's voluntary. But then again, he and Dak
(05:31):
Prescott ceedee lamb, those guys have been working out all
off season together. And I've always been of the mindset
once he got hit with the franchise tag that it
would be mandatory mini camp that we would see George
Pickens as far as that's concerned, so the v Yeah,
he's not here, he's not here to the he comes
and you put him upside down right making and then
(05:51):
turn that in back turning back, then that's the dope.
Speaker 6 (05:55):
But that is not necessarily for everybody. You know what
I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Oh, so the mandatory doesn't apply.
Speaker 6 (06:00):
That's like a Mingo mandatory. You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
You talk about voluntary, we talk about the mandatory. Man
talking about he's talking about picking. I think he'll be there.
Speaker 6 (06:08):
You'll figure you know, they'll figure, they'll figure it, they'll
figure it.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
I don't. I don't think he signed his tag to
get to start.
Speaker 6 (06:13):
Either voluntary is mingo mandatory?
Speaker 1 (06:16):
That is You're right, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
That's what I thought you were saying, mandatory presence, not
mandatory practice.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
Well that was that was the case last year with
Micah because he was trying to avoid fine.
Speaker 7 (06:29):
But his back, Kyle his back all right, green Bay
somehow figured it out. Kyle's fine, stretch it out on
that table.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
Help he reports to mandatory mini camp. And I am
confident he will report to mandatory mini camp. And I
will be shocked if he doesn't, because again, if that
were if I have to plan, why signed the tag?
Speaker 1 (06:49):
You know? So? I think he was to extended, just
to extend the news and notes.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
If you believe that he will attend mandatory mini camp,
I believe in Joe Hendry.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
Do you do you believe that he will practice mandatory
mini camp? Yes, training camp, Yes, in a in a
limited fashion. Yes. I don't think he'll be going. Yeah,
he won't full tilt individual doctor. Yeah, he'll do some
of that stuff. We'll see him on the field. Yeah,
he'll be in a jersey. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (07:21):
Yeah, either way it'll be headline worthy. I'm sure.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
Whether he's here or not, it's headlonge worthy. If he
steps on the field or he doesn't his hit where.
Speaker 7 (07:29):
If he's fully participating in every single drill, there will
be a headline here.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
You'd be full of goal for training him.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
Here's my question, and there's going to be a point
proven no matter what the answer is.
Speaker 8 (07:37):
Here.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Did Ceedee Lamb report for voluntary stuff voluntary workouts?
Speaker 1 (07:41):
Did he report? You know? Okay?
Speaker 2 (07:45):
That proves the point? Like here this year? This year,
did he I've seen a couple you saw him today?
Speaker 1 (07:52):
Okay? Has it been reported?
Speaker 2 (07:54):
This is nothing happened has not been reported, so that's
not official, I guess, but that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 6 (07:57):
But his contract's already done, Kyle, That's.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
What I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
It's a storyline because it's picking Yea exactly. It's not
a storyline anywhere else. Cede Lamb could have not shown
up for any voluntary portion of the off season program.
And it's not a storyline because the contract's done, because
it's in the in the review mirror. I get it,
and I understand how the media game works. But fans
out there that are freaking out that George Pickens is
not years. We're talking about the voluntary workout. It's a
(08:25):
big deal because there are some people that want it
to be a big deal, But from a from a
team standpoint, it's voluntary.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
For a reason I hate to prejict.
Speaker 4 (08:33):
He will likely not be here for voluntary OTA's voluntary.
He will be in the building, cleats on, doing maybe
some individual work in mandatory mini camp. They being the
coaching staff and George Pickens and the front office, they'll
describe it as he's ramping up for training camp, and
then he'll be an ox node and he'll be a
(08:54):
full goal when all of this will be behind us
until next From.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
The locker room perspective, I could tell you players aren't
tripping the players.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
That's the point.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
There is one position, so one position and an entire
football team that players would have an issue if the
person was not there during the voluntary kicker. Yeah no,
then it's a quarterback. You got a new country. It's
just it's merely a quarterback. I mean, so that's why
you know we're talking Cowboys, but like talking Pittsburgh. That's
(09:24):
why that was such a big deal because not having
your quarterback matters.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
It matters during this time, right.
Speaker 6 (09:30):
And knowing the situation, the gray area.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
Of it all, they are literally running the offense, so
like you have to have that person in the room, right,
So every every other position, guys in the locker room,
it'd be like, okay, yeah, all right, he's taking care
of business.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
But quarterback is like, hey, bro, like we we need you.
Speaker 4 (09:47):
You can also considering the fact that if you look
at how George Pickens has been moving this entire time,
I mean this just fast forward through last season and
go right to the off season. He didn't once the
offseason arrived, kind of seclude himself and kind of go
off on his own like he's been glued to see
these hip and Dak's hip this entire time, as some
of these other guys. So it goes to what Isaiah
saying as far as locker room is concerned. When you
(10:09):
add that into it, contextually speaking, there's nothing, for the
most part for his teammates to worry about. They all
see George is still being locked in, still being you know,
open the teammates and having fun with his brothers and
you know, so forth and so on.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
Probably still on the sticks together with times practice alveray,
I'll seey'all, y'all get back.
Speaker 4 (10:26):
To the house, still on the five, Still on the five.
So yeah, it's just not a thing, not a thing.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
And of course, just to be clear, I think we
talked about this a lot last year with Micah. I
would love for George Pickens to be involved as much
as possible in the off season. I think Brian Schottenheimer
would echo that sentiment. I think Clayton Adams would echo,
Dak Prescott, anybody could echo the fact that they would
love George Pickens to be a part of the man
towards mandatory Mini camp. My my point and my thought
(10:56):
process here is don't freak out that he's not here.
Agree even if he's not here for the mandatory mini
camp stuff. There have been franchise tags in the past
that have not shown up for mandatory mini camp. Then
they're there for training camp and all as well, and
you figure it out and you go from there. So
it's a part of the process. It's a part of
the game that's played off the field. I just hope
(11:18):
it can translate on the field in a positive manner.
Speaker 6 (11:21):
I tell you what, in all of.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
That we're saying right now, I think could still do that.
Speaker 4 (11:24):
It's a perfect opportunity when we talk about voluntary OTA
is a mandatory mini camp, assuming that George shows up
for mandatory but he's not doing full team drills. I mean,
it's a perfect opportunity for guys like Ryan Flinoy to
get more reps, to kind of sell it for another
breakout season better than last year. But even more so
than Ryan Flinoy, the Cowboys need to figure out something
at the position behind Ryan Flinoy, So appsent George Pickens
(11:48):
and team drills. You know, Ryan Flinnoy is gonna get
his but what does it look like behind him?
Speaker 1 (11:53):
That's what they need to figure out.
Speaker 4 (11:54):
So if there's a silver lining to be had by
George Pickens having a limited capacity practice in mandatory mini camp,
that's it. You got three or four days if you're
these non Ryan Flinoy guys to kind of step up
and say.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
Hey, I deserve to be on the plane to Oxen.
Speaker 4 (12:10):
First of all, because there's no guarantee some of these
guys are going to be on the plane, but there's
an opportunity for you to make sure that.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
You have a seat on that charter. Can I ask
a question? You sure can? What is going on behind Ryan?
Speaker 3 (12:23):
What is the depth chart currently a wide receiver outside
of your top three guys? And give a lot of
credit to Ryan Flinoy and for those that were riding
for Ryan Flinoy at the beginning, Mister Patrick Guncy Walker
one of them.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
Go flow.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
He took the wide receiver three spot last year and
solidified it. And I think it's great that you have
a draft pick that overplayed his spot, that has stepped
into that role and really took it over when he
needed to because they needed him a certain points last
year for the offense to go the way that they did.
They needed him and they're gonna need him again in
the future, so I hope he continues to step up.
(12:56):
But wide receiver Ford, in my eyes, is wide open
wide receiver five.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Even more so.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
And those are the those are, like you said, not
only Charter spots to Oxnard.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
That's Charter spots to week.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
One against New York. I mean those that you are
on the fifty three. You are on the field and
expected to contribute, whether it be from an offensive or
a special team standpoint.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
Who are those guys for you right now? Oh? Man?
Speaker 4 (13:19):
Well, first I will kind of piggyback off of that
and say that it literally begins next week for the
guys that we're about to mention right now. Okay, So
for guys like Jonathan Mingo, it begins next week, Trey
Shawn Holden next week, Paris Campbell next week, and he's
he's one of the older veterans in the group, so
he's gonna have to people forget he's even on the
rock exactly. And then you have you know, the incoming guys,
(13:41):
right so like Jordan Hudson, Tyler Johnson, the undrafted guys.
So and then of course Cavante Turpin. Now the question
being is there anyone Anthony Smith is another guy, and
I've circled Anthony Smith.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
I've been very out.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
I've circled Anthony Smith from the seventh round pick rookie.
I think that he has a chance to absolutely be
on offense what they would like Cavante Terping to be
on offense, but for whatever reason, just can't figure out
what or how to get him in that niche Cavante
I mean, So Anthony Smith's won Camden Brown, I mean,
and then of course Marquez van Deers scantling for me,
(14:15):
I don't know that MVS moves my needle. Now that's
not to say he can't play football at this level.
I believe he can play football at this level. But
if you're asking me, does he move my needle at
WR four, the answer is, respectfully, no, he doesn't move
my needle.
Speaker 1 (14:27):
At WR four. Sure you know what I mean? What
are you looking for at w R?
Speaker 4 (14:31):
First of all, at WL four, I'm looking for talent,
but developmental traits. Right, So MVS is in the same
vain as paris to me. Right, you at this point
in their career, you know what you have with MVS.
You know what you have with Paris and MVS. Let's
be honest, He's not had a past great couple of
seasons these last couple of seasons, so you don't really
know which version of Marquez you're going to get, right,
(14:53):
But when you look at a guy like Anthony Smith,
he's coming in Trey shon hold and we saw some
flashes from him in training camp last year. Didn't pan
out into being activated at any point last year, but
another off season of development. I'd like to see a
younger guy with potentially a high ceiling get that those
reps to.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
Develop, as opposed to an MVS.
Speaker 4 (15:13):
You know what he is, and he's kind of on
the downturn based statistically on what his numbers say. Well,
Aris Campbell kind of on the desk of his career.
At what point are you looking at those two guys
and you're saying are they progress stoppers? So that's my point.
I don't want to risk the progress stop.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
So typically I asked this question because typically at the
WR four and five special teams more so yeah, special
teams for sure, special teams, contributors, and usually a special
list on something regarding offense. Not typically your holistic receiver.
Typically they block really well, or typically they're really fast,
(15:50):
or they're really sudden, right Like, there's something there's certain
attributes that they possess that can be utilized within an
offensive scheme. But they're typically not a a well rounded receiver.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
I put it that way.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
So when I say what are you looking for out
of WR four and five, we have one of those
guys already in TURP.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
He's going to be one of those guys specialists.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
He's a specialist that has possessed special abilities on offense,
right that you can utilize based upon scheme.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
He's not a holistic receiver. Okay, you have one of
those guys.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
So that's one of your four or five at whatever
spot you want to put him at.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
Your next guy up, what do you want that trait
to be?
Speaker 2 (16:27):
If you cannot be a holistic receiver, what attribute would
you like him to possess.
Speaker 7 (16:32):
I'm looking for a guy that's able to slide into
the offense that in the case and God forbid, you're
faced with a decision where you know you're out a
lamb or you're out of pickings, and now you have
to change, Like I don't want you to have to
change your offense in that way. That's why I feel like,
at least for me, a guy like Jonathan Mingo, if
he does make that next step and be able to
contribute and know this offense in and out. That's why
(16:54):
I was saying it's voluntary as a Mingo mandatory. He
has to be here because he's fighting for that spot
right now. Now granted you have the draft capital, which
can go by the wayside now you just trade it
for two fourth round picks. I'm just I'm saying like,
in the grand scheme of things, I want someone that
is able to contribute to the offense at the same
not the same level, but at the same consistency.
Speaker 6 (17:15):
As those players do.
Speaker 7 (17:16):
If you find yourself out one of those two star
receivers whereas we're talking about, you know, Anthony Smith or
Kavanti turpind like guys with traits that don't necessarily fit
into that box. You have flow, thankfully, but who else
do you have that can compliment that in the regular
offense that you're running.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
It's well said, because my thought when you were outlining
that you need a guy that's not well rounded at
four and five or you most likely you're going to
have a player that's not well rounded at your fourth
and fifth spot.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
Not any not fully developed guys.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
I'll say any position of the depth drick, not just
wide receiver, any position on the team. The thought process
there though, is and Will McClay says this all the
time about the draft. The first you go in the draft,
the more those guys have warts, the more there's something
that's not fully developed. There's something that's missing. There's a
tweak here, a tweak there, whether it's an injury thing, availability,
(18:11):
it's a skill set element that he doesn't have, whatever
it is, that's why they go later in the draft.
It's the same thing on a depth chart. You've got
your complete guys one, your next complete guy at two,
probably a pretty complete guy at three, and then it
drops off from there. If you're looking at me and
you're telling me Cavante Turpin is a specialist, I couldn't
tell you right now. He's a well rounded receiver. The hands,
(18:31):
the route running, the miscues. There's a lot of things
there with Cavante Turpin that I wish we would have
seen to make him wide receiver three, to make him
a solidified wide receiver on offense. That's why I think
the door is open. Jonathan Mingo, we haven't seen it either.
Speaker 8 (18:46):
No.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
And so with Anthony Smith coming in, one thing I
said about him in the draft, he's a trades guy.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
He's going to bring in trades.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
These yards have to catch contested catchability, which you get
from George Pickens. You get a little bit from Seedee Lamb,
even though that's not his game. You get it from
Anthony Smith as well. So maybe that's an element that
can help him into that wide receiver four spot. And
then outside of that, you're picking and choosing. What do
you like from Tree Seon Holden, What do you like
from Marquees Valdez Kantling who finished tenth in receiving last year.
(19:14):
I thought that was a pretty good number on the
Steelers roster. He finished ten, particularly on the Steelers roster.
Speaker 4 (19:20):
I will grant him that, but it's certainly not and
what I mean what I mean when I say guys
like Marquez and Paris in the dusk of their careers
just simply they're not peak like, they're not what they
once were. Paris and Indy, No, that's not what we
got here. Do we have Marquez in Green Bay. No,
that's not what we've got here. So again, and that's
why I prefaced it as I'm not saying MVS can't
(19:41):
play quality football in going in twenty twenty six at
the NFL level. I believe he absolutely can. I just
wonder example Anthony Smith is one. But I love that
you bring up Jonathan Mingo. We've seen Jonathan Mingle flash
with Dak Prescott at quarterback. The biggest problem he had
after the trade was the Cooper Rush connection or lack
there up. But then you saw him you wanted to
(20:04):
see him with with Dak. Mingo flashed in training camp
last season with Dak throwing some of the reps, but
then it just didn't.
Speaker 6 (20:11):
Well, you got that injury just before started.
Speaker 4 (20:14):
Now you're talking that's not his first injury that he's
battled since he's gotten here.
Speaker 1 (20:18):
That's availability, right, it's availability.
Speaker 6 (20:20):
So I flow took that job.
Speaker 5 (20:22):
Love.
Speaker 4 (20:22):
I mean, if you follow me during training camp, you've
seen me praise Jonathan Mingle. I want to see him
take the next step, and if he does, that's my answer.
Then my answer w R four is Jonathan Mingle. But
I haven't seen enough yet to be able to say
I'm a plant my flag there. There's nowhere behind Ryan
Fleinoyd that I'm ready to plant my my proverbial flag
(20:43):
and say that's your WR four, not going into voluntariy OTAs.
Speaker 1 (20:46):
I got to see something in Oxenarf from somebody. You
got show me something.
Speaker 7 (20:49):
If you had to choose two right now for that spot,
that that you think are going to be competing highest
for that spot, who is it.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
I think MVS is going to be up there, honestly
for four for four. I think he's gon be up
there because he brings the veteran presence that I know,
Shottenheimer and Clayton a value for now. Outside of that,
I think you go to the opposite side of the
spectrum and you go young, and I think they're going
to give a guy like Anthony Smith the draft picks.
They're going to give them their shot.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (21:15):
So I would say Anthony Smith on one side of
the spectrum battling for WR four versus MVS. I think
it's easy with the maverick being Jonathan Mingle.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
I think it's either m VS or Mingo whoever shows
out more and then give me Anthony Smith.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
I think he's on.
Speaker 6 (21:30):
The ross Holden is not higher For you guys.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
I like Treon Holden, but he's not as quick as Anthony.
Speaker 7 (21:35):
That's another guy from last year at camp that flash
and preseason and preseason Yah.
Speaker 6 (21:39):
Absolutely, But then it you know it well, I mean,
how much development can it really get during the you
know the during the season.
Speaker 4 (21:47):
But that also means that and it's not a knock
to him, this is just actual facts. That also means
that the coaches aren't seeing anything, rather be scouting team practice,
squad reps whatever that are forcing the coach's hands to say, okay,
well let's try to act if they you this game,
Because that's exactly what Flinoy did to Tobart.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
And pushing him out.
Speaker 4 (22:06):
Tobart was just yep, all right, And everybody was like, well,
what do they keep giving Tobart a chance? It was
because no one had stepped up. All of a sudden,
Flinoy starts stepping up, and you're two stepping up, stepping up,
and then Tobart this game and that game, in this game,
in that game, and now he plays for the Dolphins.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
As much as I love having a wide receiver. For
a conversation on May twenty six, We've got.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
To take a break, baby, we got to take a break.
Speaker 3 (22:27):

(25:12):
Black Rifle Coffee Company, the official coffee of the Dallas Cowboys.
Hold time ready for this one, Patrick Noci Walker, Josh Rodriguez,
Isaiah standback, Chris Beaming, the back of kyleie Yeomans. All right, Josh,
you guys talked about it last week. The schedule is out.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
It is it is out.
Speaker 6 (25:28):
It is live on Dallas Cowboys. Go check it out.
Speaker 3 (25:32):
Was a couple of talk comes last I bid energy
I missed in this building, just immediate yelling about the
schedule at the New York Giants. Then it's versus Washington.
Then it's on the road in Rio against the Baltimore Ravens.
Technically a home game, but it is in Rio. So
you've got those three to start it. But we'll go
and break down the schedule a little bit more. You
(25:52):
had some questions though, Josh, yeah, we.
Speaker 6 (25:55):
Talked about it last week.
Speaker 7 (25:56):
So apologies if this is a repeat for our listeners.
Speaker 1 (25:59):
But you listen again.
Speaker 6 (26:00):
Kyle wasn't here, Patrick wasn't here. So I want to
ask you guys, gets your takes. This is a cowboy
talking cowboys, after all, we.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
Need your when did your take?
Speaker 6 (26:07):
So for you guys, what was the biggest surprise on
the twenty twenty six Cowboy schedule.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
Honestly, I'm just going to go right to this, this
cluster of games to start the regular season cluster.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
Yeah, this cluster of games. It's it's the.
Speaker 4 (26:22):
It's the time frame in which these games are scared
right out at me. And it was troubling. The moment
is troubling, troubling, disturbing.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
I was just not I was quite disturbed. Disturbing. Its hilarious.
Speaker 7 (26:36):
Yeah, I was thought the schedule was Creepypastah, yeah, what
does that even mean.
Speaker 6 (26:42):
It's like a scary story. You never heard of creepy because.
Speaker 4 (26:51):
Sorry, we're so bad. It's the timeline of the scheduling.
When it was announced and when we discovered that the
Cowboys would be going to Rio de Janeiro to take
on the Baltimore Ravens, we as analysts, we were under
the thought process that, Okay, maybe there's a mini buy
(27:11):
coming after that or going into that because gosh, darn it,
player safety, I'm.
Speaker 6 (27:17):
Right, you forgot which team this is.
Speaker 4 (27:20):
Patrick, Yeah, so player safety be damned, I suppose, because
the Cowboys have a game on September thirteenth, and then
seven days later against the Commanders, and then seven days
later in Rio, which, by the way, I don't I
don't think it's.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
Down the street. I didn't major in geography, but.
Speaker 4 (27:38):
I'm pretty sure it's a long flight there and back
to South America, and then you immediately turn around and
have another game on October fourth, and that game is
also not even at home.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
I spoke with it close. Spoke with the gentleman.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
Who was the charge of all the travel for the
Cowboys and getting things laid out today, mister Craig, and
he said, I just got back on from Rio last
week getting things set up.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
I was like, oh, yeah, well, you know, how long
is that flight anyway? It's twelve hours. Yeah, one way.
So I'm going to say this again.
Speaker 4 (28:07):
The Cowboys have a game seven days after the opener,
seven days after week two. That game is against the
Ravens in Rio Dejion, Narrow in South America, and then
seven days after that at Houston on October fourth, and
then what oh, there's no bye after that because then
you got Thursday night football four days later.
Speaker 6 (28:29):
Oh oh, four days after four days later.
Speaker 4 (28:31):
The Cowboys don't actually get a MANI buye until after
week five, when they have a ten day wait to
play the Green Bay Packers. And then of course that's
at Green Bay. So that first quadrant of games, that
first four games before we even talk about and you know,
Klein and I we'll get into you know, who they're
playing and the opponents, and they ring me.
Speaker 1 (28:52):
But I can't.
Speaker 4 (28:52):
I can't sit here and tell you that I was
not absolutely disturbed.
Speaker 1 (28:56):
Okay, let me just call it what it was. I
was pissed. I was really pissed. Florida. Yeah, I was.
I was like, le gonna be a chat for a minute.
I was p old. I really was.
Speaker 4 (29:06):
I literally I saw the schedule and I turned my term,
I turned to my wife and I said, what the
hell is this? And literally, speaking from a player safety
standpoint like this, this cannot be okay.
Speaker 1 (29:17):
The same, and yet here we are.
Speaker 4 (29:19):
So my hope is that the Cowboys can remain as
healthy as possible coming out of that stretch because that
stretch of games is absolutely brutal. And I'm not even
talking about the opponents. Ye, I'm not really worried about
the Giants. Commanders are going to be something to deal with.
The Rams is going to be something to deal with.
The Texas defense is going to be something to deal with.
And then four days later you got Tempa Bay Buccaneers,
who you know, by the way, they're a playoff team.
Speaker 1 (29:41):
Yeah, not much.
Speaker 6 (29:43):
Risk, Kyle.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
I don't feel as strongly about how tough, but I do.
It is tough, don't get me wrong, going from Rio
to Houston. Then you get the Thursday night football and
then you go back to back against the Packers and
the Eagles.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
Row.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
That is a tough stretch. Yeah, tough stretch. Here's I'm
glad it's early in the year.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
Yep.
Speaker 6 (30:02):
Oh, I'm I'm there.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
I'm right there with you, because if it's at the
end of the year and you go through that, you
may not make.
Speaker 6 (30:07):
It out of a lot that's December.
Speaker 3 (30:08):
Yeah, oh oh, I think you're going to be in
a tough spot. At least it's early and you get
the late by to kind of break it up a
little bit too. Your bye is in week fourteen. You
were talking about it last week, Isaiah. As a player,
you prefer the late bye. Yes, it's a really late
fit that late. Yes, it's really late, but I think
you would certainly like a break it.
Speaker 5 (30:27):
Bro.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
Intention everybody's intention to make a playoff yesh, right, sure,
but specifically, if you're actually in a good position right
during the season to make a playoff push, you want
that late by because you need a refresh as close
to the playoffs as possible, as close to the end
of the season as possibly, because you want to feel
rejuvenated if you have that in week four Bro, you're
(30:49):
talking about what twelve's you know, twelve thirteen straight games
before the playoffs?
Speaker 1 (30:53):
Is it that?
Speaker 7 (30:53):
Bro?
Speaker 2 (30:54):
That's rough on your body? There's there's no you look out.
There ain't not coming back. There's no light boat.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
Right. So at least when you're in the midst of
all this stuff, and.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
We talk about that that onslought of games, those are
some of the best.
Speaker 1 (31:06):
Defenses in the league, bro, Like, call it what it is.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
That's four and then you take it maybe and then
cause you hit some more defenses that are gonna punch
you in the face, right, So like this is gonna
be some physic halitay, right, and you need to be
able to look forward and be like, Okay, that's sure.
Right there, that's the shore. Okay, I gotta get to see.
But once I get to the shore, I know, at
least I gotta breather.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
Right. It doesn't mean that you ease up. It doesn't matter.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
And I'm not saying all those things, but fans, trust me,
when your body. I don't know how many people have
been on a hike before, right, but if you ever
been hiking. When I did kill him and Gyro, I
was hurting, right, I was hurting, and I was talking
to our I was talking to our I do who's
our leader?
Speaker 1 (31:40):
And I was like, hey, bro, when are we taking
a break? Like that was that was the only question.
Speaker 2 (31:45):
Like I can keep going, but I need to know
when we're taking a break, And don't you lie to me?
Speaker 1 (31:49):
Right, don't you lie to me?
Speaker 3 (31:52):
Don't get you a little extra?
Speaker 1 (31:53):
Yeah, bro, like once.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
You once you know that I have a break coming up,
and like, okay, cool, I can push through to this
right And then I knew I could wu saw when
I get there, but I'd rather much rather have that
later there.
Speaker 4 (32:04):
I want to say something and address the chat because
I see a couple of comments and I know that
you're taking what I'm saying wrong. So let me make
sure that I qualify this again the right way. It's
not about the traveling. This is football. You travel, you
have away games. We understand that that's elementary.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (32:20):
What we're talking about is the lack of rest versus
where they're heading.
Speaker 1 (32:26):
Sure, that's what we're talking about.
Speaker 4 (32:28):
So it's a quicker turnout unless you actually and Isaiah's
the only one at this table at the NFL level
who's actually put his body on the line play in
play out knows what that wear and tearor looks like.
Speaker 1 (32:38):
And then I have to be able to.
Speaker 4 (32:40):
Be in real for a game seven days later, and
then have another game seven days after that, twelve hour
flights both ways, and then four days later Thursday night.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
Let me let me, let me.
Speaker 3 (32:53):
On the But that's the three days or three games
in twelve days stretch with a twelve hour flight to
and from twenty four hours day to begin that trailer.
Speaker 4 (33:02):
That's not making excuses, that's objective facts. That's just not
lem it just just to add this, we gotta keep
going through this. Anybody who's traveled internationally, right, primarily very
long sustained flights, what is the most difficult portion about
flying to a foreign country? That's a ten to twelve
hour flight away jetlag, right, adapting to the time your
(33:25):
body acclimating to that new time frame, right, your your
your what do you call it? Your your body body clock,
body clock, that's what's difficult.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
Right.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
And to give you guy an example, when I was
playing with New England, we practiced, I don't remember what
day it was, right, but we practiced, got on the bus,
flew from New England and from Boston all the way
to England.
Speaker 1 (33:46):
Okay, we got there.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
We checked in to our hotel, right, went straight from
the airport, raight to the hotel, checked our bags in.
Coach said, come downstairs, we're going straight to practice again.
Speaker 1 (33:55):
Right, So there was no rest like our rest was
the flight.
Speaker 2 (33:59):
Because when you go out that he wanted to try
to get us acclimated to that time is get our
body clocks reset as fast as possible. That's the challenging portion.
So you're not only dealing with that two or three
days that it takes your body to adapt really right,
your body to fully adapt going there, but then you're
also doing that on the return. That's what No. C's
referring to. It's not just the travel. Everybody's hopped on
(34:20):
a plane before, but it takes time for your body
to acclimate to that new timeframe, to that new environment,
and then to do that there and back and not
be given that grace exactly.
Speaker 4 (34:32):
That's what That's what we're saying. And we're analysts and
we're analyzing this. We're not making excuses for them. They
still got to go out there and play. I don't
have to go out there and play. I Ah, so
I get to analyze and say what I like about
the schedule, what I don't like about it, And there
are things I like about it, there are things I
don't like about it.
Speaker 1 (34:46):
This thing I don't like about it.
Speaker 4 (34:47):
But if you'd like me to sit here and say
they're going to go seventeen and know and there are
no challenges, I'm still not gonna do it.
Speaker 6 (34:54):
Ability are a plane? Yeah, come on, man, Well.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
Rio is only two hours ahead, so it's a little
it's like going to the West coast but the opposite direction,
or from the West coast twelve hours, but.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
It's it's a long California was how many miles away?
Speaker 5 (35:08):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (35:08):
Really just straight south is what it is. So it's
a little bit different, but it's not as big. I
don't think it's going to London or going to Germany
and some of these other iral that whoever does I mean,
what was that the Ravens or I mean it's the
forty nine ers and the Rams?
Speaker 1 (35:26):
Is that? Who's doing that?
Speaker 8 (35:27):
Game?
Speaker 1 (35:27):
Oh? I do feel badly?
Speaker 3 (35:29):
Yeah, so I think the schedule itself.
Speaker 1 (35:32):
Westy, I don't know. Yeah, I don't know where is
it equal distant?
Speaker 3 (35:37):
The schedule there you're gonna find out week three through seven.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
The heck you are who you are as a football team.
I like that.
Speaker 3 (35:45):
I think that's good because you can either pack it
up and and and let's try it again into early
and you know, or you're you're going to turn around
and you're gonna figure it out in the middle of
the stretch. And then you get a second one two
punch really one two three punch book ends of the
bye because you go to or you have Philly on Thanksgiving.
Then you face Seattle a week later on the road
(36:06):
in front of the twelves up there in the Pacific Northwest.
Then you get the buy and then you get La
on the road at so far. So you turn around.
You got three games in that cluster right there around.
Speaker 1 (36:15):
The by, and throw Jacksonville in their playoff team.
Speaker 3 (36:18):
Jacksonville was decent last year too, and you get them
at home. So I think you've got two real stretches.
You got an early one that's gonna test the moxy
of this football team. Then you're gonna have a second
one to see if they've either fixed it or if
they're sitting right where they are. If you get through
those two stretches, let's say let's say, worst case scenario,
Dallas goes two and five and that crazy stretch through seven,
(36:40):
two and five.
Speaker 6 (36:42):
That sounds bad, right, Yeah, it does sound great.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
That's the worst case scenario.
Speaker 3 (36:47):
In my opinion, I think you go two and five
worst case, but more likely than not, you're going.
Speaker 1 (36:52):
To be three and four or four and three in.
Speaker 3 (36:54):
That stretch and you can make it happen from there,
you can find a way. You said, Hey, we survived
by going four and three or three and four, whatever
it ends up being. Now, let's attack the rest of
the schedule. So I know it's tough. I agree it's
a slew of games, but it's the NFL. There's no
week off in this league. And I think that was
one cluster of games that you're gonna circle. But if
(37:16):
you can make it out alive, my goodness, this football
team could do something.
Speaker 7 (37:20):
And speaking of circling games, the next question was on
the schedule. Considering all those things, considering the travel, considering
the time, considering the week that we're playing these opponents,
which game did you circle as soon.
Speaker 6 (37:32):
As you saw the schedule?
Speaker 1 (37:33):
Can I get two? No?
Speaker 8 (37:35):
One?
Speaker 1 (37:35):
Kyle?
Speaker 2 (37:36):
If you go no, no, no, we don't have toe to
the one to go for you to do two, Patty
one big one.
Speaker 3 (37:43):
Okay, we just talked about a little bit. It's the
Baltimore game in Rio Week three. Are you kidding me?
Against a team like that, that, of course, is coming
off of the year that they had where they were
quite literally inches away from making the playoffs. They were
probably the most feared team in the playoffs that first
week in the wild round. If they make a field
goal to beat Pittsburgh in Week eight, team they make
(38:03):
that field goal, Tyler lou puts it through the upright
talent they had. The talent they had, and they were
so banged up. They had a rough start to the year.
Speaking of a team that turned it around midway through
a year, they were in a bad spot. They turned
it around, They were playing their best football, and they
just missed the field goal at the end. The Pittsburgh
gave them everything they had to win that game at
home in the final week of the regular season.
Speaker 1 (38:23):
I think if.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
Baltimore wins that game, they make maybe a run back
to an AFC title game. They're certainly talented enough to
do it again this year. And you're gonna get.
Speaker 1 (38:32):
That's your first test.
Speaker 3 (38:33):
Not to say that the two division games before that
are not important, because they certainly are, and you're gonna
get tested by New York and Washington both. But if
you go up against Baltimore, you know you're getting a
tough fight, a rock fight, a dogfight, whatever you want
to what type of fight you want to call it.
You're going to get that from the Baltimore Ravens in
Week three. So that's been circled on my calendar from
the jump. I know that's boring because it's the one
(38:54):
game that was happening, but you gotta show something in
that game.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
H I wish I could have too.
Speaker 4 (39:03):
I'm gonna go with until further notice. Man, it's the
forty nine ers. It's the devil, you know, and the
devil you can't seem to beat. It's the forty nine
ers for me. And also, not only is it because
it's the devil you can't seem to beat in the
San Francisco forty nine ers, but it's also the fact that, yeah,
you have a couple of November games preceding that one.
So you got the Arizona Cardins on the first, and
(39:23):
you got the Coats at Indianapolis and the eighth. I
think that's gonna be a little bit more challenging than.
Speaker 1 (39:27):
People that get credit for. But yeah, absolutely, yeah.
Speaker 4 (39:30):
But I'm looking at the Sunday November fifteenth against the
forty nine Ers as the beginning of the tail.
Speaker 1 (39:37):
What's the tail? No, see?
Speaker 4 (39:39):
The tail is from that point forward? Is this a
playoff team? Is this a super Bowl caliber team? Because
I believe, and we'll get into schedule predictions like down
the road, okay, but I believe they can escape three
and two from the first five games, maybe four and one.
If Christian Parker's defense can jail quickly, right, you can
get four and one out of that. Realistically, let's say
(40:01):
three and two. I think that the second quadrant you
got the Packers. I think they can take the Packers
at Green Bay, the Eagles at Philadelphia.
Speaker 1 (40:08):
That plays will in Philly, you know, da da.
Speaker 4 (40:10):
But November fifteenth forward, if you can take down the
forty nine Ers, then I have ultimate confidence that you
can handle the Titans at home, because it's the Titans,
they're struggling. Then you can handle the Eagles on Thanksgiving.
You've done it before at Seattle is going to be
another support. My number two, but I can't get to
I think the road to the playoffs and deep into
(40:32):
the playoffs truly begins Sunday, November fifteenth against the forty
nine Ers, Especially if you look at everything that comes
after that, you need the momentum from that game. You
need the confidence from that game to help carry you forward,
because if you lose to the forty nine is what's
going to happen is I believe some of the players
who've already been here, not the newer guys in life,
some of the guys who've been here and have lost
(40:53):
at least once or twice to the forty nine is
gonna be like, oh man, then you kind of that
defeatist mindset, and it trickles into the Titans, and all
of a sudden, Titans come in here and do something weird.
Speaker 1 (41:03):
At eighteen.
Speaker 7 (41:05):
It's like, oh man, I'm speaking of weird. You got
the Cardinals on the schedule too, so but.
Speaker 1 (41:08):
Not in the desert.
Speaker 6 (41:09):
Yeah, thankfully, I got plenty of demons exercise. Sure.
Speaker 4 (41:13):
So for me, it's the forty nine Ers, because that's
the beginning, the true beginning.
Speaker 1 (41:16):
Of where it can happen in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (41:18):
I like it all right, we got to take our
second break when we come back on talking cow By
the way that my second game was at Seattle, just
so I get sneaking in there. All right. When we
are talking Cowboys, we're going to take a look at
the offseason schedule. We got to be quick getting out
of here. But what's to come over the next couple
of weeks and what you can anticipate from the Cowboys
is they get back on the practice field.
Speaker 1 (41:37):
More to come right after this, what would you like
the power to do?
Speaker 6 (41:42):

(44:13):
things up here on Talking Cowboys, there are pads on
the practice field, there are players in the building. We
are seeing the off season program continue. But Patrick, as
we get closer, what are some of the dates the
Cowboys fans need to take a look at as we
get the closer to OTAs mandatory mini camp and all
of the fun stuff throughout the year.
Speaker 1 (44:32):
I mean the offseason.
Speaker 4 (44:33):
I mean really, when you look at what we are
in the regulars in the offseason, this is kind of
the first lull. Right, So your post draft and your
post you know, rookie mini camp and your post schedule release,
and but you're ahead of voluntary OTAs where the veterans
and the rookies come together. So that's the next thing
to look forward to, is veteran and rookies they come
(44:53):
together for OTAs. That's going to be for the Cowboys
at June fourth, No, hold on second, first through.
Speaker 3 (45:01):
The first fourth, right, yeah, yeah, and then they've got
a second one, right, yep.
Speaker 4 (45:04):
And they got a second one, so then you have
mandatory OTTs next week.
Speaker 1 (45:08):
Voluntary OTAs. That is because le Town didn't tell me
he was.
Speaker 3 (45:13):
I said it in the tease, did you he did?
Speaker 1 (45:18):
I Melvins comings because Melvin, you're great, all right.
Speaker 3 (45:22):
So June first and second is when it when it
really gets underway.
Speaker 1 (45:25):
The mandatory OTAs.
Speaker 3 (45:26):
Then they have one the eighth and the ninth, and
then June eleventh and then mandatory mandatory mini.
Speaker 1 (45:31):
Camp sixteen, the eighteenth. Correct, thank you, Patrick, good job, dude,
A hop on it, Braves.
Speaker 2 (45:38):
It took a little bit of time to get ready,
but yeah, yeah, but I was trying not to go
to the baseball But I mean, you know braves are, you.
Speaker 1 (45:47):
Know, doing their thing there? But no, so there you are.
Speaker 4 (45:49):
So the key thing to circle is again June sixteenth
through June eighteenth, three day mandatory mini camp, because the
headline there is obvious. It's George Pickens. Will he be here?
And will he do once he is? And I believe
that he will report after that. It's the it's the
it's the quiet period, and we hope it stays quiet.
Speaker 1 (46:14):
And I hope it.
Speaker 4 (46:14):
Stays quiet because after that it's a long wait until
Cowboys depart for ox Start, and we're still waiting for
the official dates for that. There's some rumblings upstairs as
far as when that might begin, but nothing solidified right now,
so we're not going to say it on the air.
Speaker 1 (46:27):
We'll just wait to see what those dates.
Speaker 6 (46:28):
Be nice to know, that's all I'm saying. It would
be nice to know.
Speaker 1 (46:33):
It'll it'll come up in a couple of weeks.
Speaker 3 (46:35):
My question to the former player in the room, what
just how Patrick outlined it.
Speaker 1 (46:40):
It's a lull of the off season.
Speaker 3 (46:42):
Now you're working out, you're doing things on the field,
you're training or conditioning, all of these different elements that
go into an NFL off season. But what's it like
and how long does it take to ramp back up
into OTAs? Does it not take a long at all?
From from a player standpoint and a body yeah, just
to get back into practice scenarios? Or is it a
(47:02):
breeze this time of the year, right time of the year,
going from a lull.
Speaker 1 (47:08):
It's not. I mean, it doesn't take much.
Speaker 11 (47:09):
I mean.
Speaker 2 (47:09):
The thing is, the coaches aren't expecting you to be
at one hundred percent either. Sure, now, I mean the expectation.
I don't know what this coaching staff expectation is, but
the reality is you're gonna be rough. They mostly want
to get you mentally sharp. So mentally, this is the
time for you to be sharp in terms of knowing
your system, understanding their schemes right. They want to try
to get as many mental errors out the way as possible.
(47:31):
They're going to run you through the all the installs
so that when you come to training camp you can
pick right up right and when they run through the
installed again that there's no grace given for you to
be adapting it right and really instilling it onto the field.
That's your second time through. Right when you hit the
training camp. So everything that they're doing in training camp,
they're really practicing it right now. The coaches are right
(47:53):
in terms of install in terms of the coaching techniques
to philosophies, make sure they're speaking the same language. All
those things are happening now. Is a cality portion. Okay, yeah,
we're going through it, and but nobody's like on you
about like oh my god, you need to know. They're
going to go through the particulars right and they're gonna
this is their time to understand how can I coach
this individual?
Speaker 1 (48:10):
How does he respond? You know, all those things.
Speaker 2 (48:12):
So this is really just like a big scientific data Yeah,
just science. They're just gathering gathering data, gathering data, you
know what I'm saying. They're they're putting the tracking systems
on guys, seeing how fast they're moving the recovery. Like
they're getting their strategy down. So say hey, in the
off season when you're going off of vacation, the coaches
are like, Okay, this is how we need to address this.
So when we get training camp, this is the best
(48:34):
plan that we could put forth to set our guys
up for success.
Speaker 4 (48:36):
Really, quock question. I'm not going to go into it
because I know we got to go. Did you guys
do your schedule predictions?
Speaker 6 (48:41):
No record Noko, I love that boy. There's another episode now.
Speaker 4 (48:47):
I was I was hoping they didn't do it with
us not here, and they didn't because they hell of
course not, because.
Speaker 1 (48:52):
We're brother.
Speaker 6 (48:54):
We're singing.
Speaker 3 (48:59):
At least it was that the end of the episode.
That's good, all right, that doesn't for us here on
Talking Cowboys. Hope you had some fun with us over
the last fifty minutes. We'll be back next week Tuesday,
ten am Central Time to get everything under control, and we'll.
Speaker 1 (49:17):
Have a day of practice to watch beforehand.
Speaker 3 (49:19):
We'll have some good stuff to watch everything Isaiah foot
talking about there for Patrick Newso Walker, for Josh Rodriguez,
Isaiah stand back, who's waving to the tour group that's
going beside us, Chris Beam. I'm Kyle Yoman saying so
long from Talking Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (49:32):
We'll see you next week.
Speaker 8 (49:34):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
