Hi beautiful souls, I am your host Pascale Gibon, and I am thrilled to welcome you to episode 304 of the Everyday Life Balance Show. Thank you for tuning in.

The topic we will cover in this episode is how to handle the most challenging emotion that surfaces during a time of change.

So, any guesses on what that emotion might be?

I believe that it is fear, for sure. Fear tends to be the heavyweight champion of emotions when we navigate changes.

And two main fears come to mind:

  • First, there is the fear of diving into the unknown, the uncertainty or hazy territory where we are unsure of what's next.
  • And secondly, there is the fear of failure, as discussed with the wise Élina Gilad in episode 302.

Don't we all desire change to improve our lives? However, how do we handle fear during a time of change?

Before I answer this question, let us put on our fear detective hats for a moment. What is fear, really?

It is said that F.e.a.r stands for 'False Experience Appearing Real.' In other words, we create a story, like a negative scene in a disaster movie that has not even happened yet. Usually, we expect the worst outcome.

Fear camouflages itself in many ways. It slips in through the stories we whisper to ourselves using the "I can't" language and the actions we do not dare to take.

If this scenario applies to you, imagine this: what if you could envision a different experience where fear takes a back seat?

Let's move on to the fear of uncertainty. Heavy fear of uncertainty can freeze us, preventing us from taking risks and pursuing big dreams.

Do you remember that student of mine? She confessed her fear of change because she was uncertain that her life would be greener on the flip side. But here is the thing: you will not know until you leap and make it happen. The consequence of lamenting our circumstances is that we remain stuck in the status quo.

What about the common fear of failure?

Let's take Eliana's journey as an example. She boldly moved from The US to Portugal, but fear still lingers even amid a well-planned leap.

Questions pop up like: "Did I make the right decision?" "Is this the right move?" After all, she has left back in the US life, friends, and memories. Yet, here is a more empowering twist: How can I craft this new chapter into the most remarkable experience? Whether purposefully leap or accidentally tumble to change, a mindset of adaptability and flexibility is essential.

Do you remember Bill Feiler's three stages of life transition from episode 303?

  • Phase #1: the long goodbyes
  • Phase #2: the messy middle
  • Phase #3: the new beginning

Guess what? Fear takes the stage in all three phases:

In the long goodbyes, we will fear failure and wonder whe
